Fun set of conflict resolutions here...
For the mac80211 stuff, these were fortunately just parallel
adds. Trivially resolved.
In drivers/net/phy/phy.c we had a bug fix in 'net' that moved the
function phy_disable_interrupts() earlier in the file, whilst in
'net-next' the phy_error() call from this function was removed.
In net/ipv4/xfrm4_policy.c, David Ahern's changes to remove the
'rt_table_id' member of rtable collided with a bug fix in 'net' that
added a new struct member "rt_mtu_locked" which needs to be copied
over here.
The mlxsw driver conflict consisted of net-next separating
the span code and definitions into separate files, whilst
a 'net' bug fix made some changes to that moved code.
The mlx5 infiniband conflict resolution was quite non-trivial,
the RDMA tree's merge commit was used as a guide here, and
here are their notes:
====================
Due to bug fixes found by the syzkaller bot and taken into the for-rc
branch after development for the 4.17 merge window had already started
being taken into the for-next branch, there were fairly non-trivial
merge issues that would need to be resolved between the for-rc branch
and the for-next branch. This merge resolves those conflicts and
provides a unified base upon which ongoing development for 4.17 can
be based.
Conflicts:
drivers/infiniband/hw/mlx5/main.c - Commit 42cea83f95
(IB/mlx5: Fix cleanup order on unload) added to for-rc and
commit b5ca15ad7e (IB/mlx5: Add proper representors support)
add as part of the devel cycle both needed to modify the
init/de-init functions used by mlx5. To support the new
representors, the new functions added by the cleanup patch
needed to be made non-static, and the init/de-init list
added by the representors patch needed to be modified to
match the init/de-init list changes made by the cleanup
patch.
Updates:
drivers/infiniband/hw/mlx5/mlx5_ib.h - Update function
prototypes added by representors patch to reflect new function
names as changed by cleanup patch
drivers/infiniband/hw/mlx5/ib_rep.c - Update init/de-init
stage list to match new order from cleanup patch

TX checksum offload applies to TCP / UDP packets which are not
fragmented using the MAPv4 checksum trailer. The following needs to be
done to have checksum computed in hardware -
1. Set the checksum start offset and inset offset.
2. Set the csum_enabled bit
3. Compute and set 1's complement of partial checksum field in
transport header.

When using the MAPv4 packet format, receive checksum offload can be
enabled in hardware. The checksum computation over pseudo header is
not offloaded but the rest of the checksum computation over
the payload is offloaded. This applies only for TCP / UDP packets
which are not fragmented.
rmnet validates the TCP/UDP checksum for the packet using the checksum
from the checksum trailer added to the packet by hardware. The
validation performed is as following -
1. Perform 1's complement over the checksum value from the trailer
2. Compute 1's complement checksum over IPv4 / IPv6 header and
subtracts it from the value from step 1
3. Computes 1's complement checksum over IPv4 / IPv6 pseudo header and
adds it to the value from step 2
4. Subtracts the checksum value from the TCP / UDP header from the
value from step 3.
5. Compares the value from step 4 to the checksum value from the
TCP / UDP header.
6. If the comparison in step 5 succeeds, CHECKSUM_UNNECESSARY is set
and the packet is passed on to network stack. If there is a
failure, then the packet is passed on as such without modifying
the ip_summed field.
The checksum field is also checked for UDP checksum 0 as per RFC 768
and for unexpected TCP checksum of 0.
If checksum offload is disabled when using MAPv4 packet format in
receive path, the packet is queued as is to network stack without
the validations above.

The MAPv4 packet format adds support for RX / TX checksum offload.
For a bi-directional UDP stream at a rate of 570 / 146 Mbps, roughly
10% CPU cycles are saved.
For receive path, there is a checksum trailer appended to the end of
the MAP packet. The valid field indicates if hardware has computed
the checksum. csum_start_offset indicates the offset from the start
of the IP header from which hardware has computed checksum.
csum_length is the number of bytes over which the checksum was
computed and the resulting value is csum_value.
In the transmit path, a header is appended between the end of the MAP
header and the start of the IP packet. csum_start_offset is the offset
in bytes from which hardware will compute the checksum if the
csum_enabled bit is set. udp_ip4_ind indicates if the checksum
value of 0 is valid or not. csum_insert_offset is the offset from the
csum_start_offset where hardware will insert the computed checksum.
The use of this additional packet format for checksum offload is
explained in subsequent patches.

The real device over which the rmnet devices are installed also
aggregate multiple IP packets and sends them as a single large
aggregate frame to the hardware. This causes degraded throughput
for TCP TX due to bufferbloat.
To overcome this problem, pacing shift value of 8 is set using the
sk_pacing_shift_update() helper. This value was determined based
on experiments with a single stream TCP TX using iperf for a
duration of 30s.

This patch fixes the order of mac_up and sgmii_open for the
reasons noted below:
- If open takes more time(if the SGMII block is not responding or
if we want to do some delay based task) in this situation we
will hit NETDEV watchdog
- The main reason : We should signal to upper layers that we are
ready to receive packets "only" when the entire path is initialized
not the other way around, this is followed in the reset path where
we do mac_down, sgmii_reset and mac_up. This also makes the driver
uniform across the reset and open paths.
- In the future there may be need for delay based tasks to be done in
sgmii open which will result in NETDEV watchdog
- As per the documentation the order of init should be sgmii, mac, rings
and DMA

Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.
By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.
Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.
This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.
How this work was done:
Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
- file had no licensing information it it.
- file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
- file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,
Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.
The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.
The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
- Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
- Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
lines of source
- File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
lines).
All documentation files were explicitly excluded.
The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.
- when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
COPYING file license applied.
For non */uapi/* files that summary was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 11139
and resulted in the first patch in this series.
If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH
Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930
and resulted in the second patch in this series.
- if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one
of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if
any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in
it (per prior point). Results summary:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270
GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17
LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15
GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14
((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5
LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4
LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1
and that resulted in the third patch in this series.
- when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
the concluded license(s).
- when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.
- In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).
- When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
- If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
in time.
In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.
Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.
In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.
Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
- a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
license ids and scores
- reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
- reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
SPDX license was correct
This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.
These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

aligned to the size of the buffer, so there's no way the RRD and RFD

The 64/32-bit DMA mask hackery in the EMAC driver is not actually necessary,
and is technically not accurate. The EMAC hardware is limted to a 45-bit

an IOMMU could possible provide a larger address. Rather than play games
with the DMA mappings, the driver should provide a correct value and
trust the DMA/IOMMU layers to do the right thing.

Use software polling (PHY_POLL) to check for link state changes instead
of relying on the EMAC's hardware polling feature. Some PHY drivers
are unable to get a functioning link because the HW polling is not
robust enough.
The EMAC is able to poll the PHY on the MDIO bus looking for link state
changes (via the Link Status bit in the Status Register at address 0x1).
When the link state changes, the EMAC triggers an interrupt and tells the
driver what the new state is. The feature eliminates the need for
software to poll the MDIO bus.
Unfortunately, this feature is incompatible with phylib, because it
ignores everything that the PHY core and PHY drivers are trying to do.
In particular:
1. It assumes a compatible register set, so PHYs with different registers
may not work.
2. It doesn't allow for hardware errata that have work-arounds implemented
in the PHY driver.
3. It doesn't support multiple register pages. If the PHY core switches
the register set to another page, the EMAC won't know the page has
changed and will still attempt to read the same PHY register.
4. It only checks the copper side of the link, not the SGMII side. Some
PHY drivers (e.g. at803x) may also check the SGMII side, and
report the link as not ready during autonegotiation if the SGMII link
is still down. Phylib then waits for another interrupt to query
the PHY again, but the EMAC won't send another interrupt because it
thinks the link is up.

To support setting the pause parameters, the driver can no longer just
mirror the PHY. The set_pauseparam feature allows the driver to
force the setting in the MAC, regardless of how the PHY is configured.
This means that we now need to maintain an internal state for pause
frame support, and so get_pauseparam also needs to be updated.
If the interface is already running when the setting is changed, then
the interface is reset.
Note that if the MAC is configured to enable RX pause frame support
(i.e. it transmits pause frames to throttle the other end), but the
PHY is configured to block those frames, then the feature will not work.

The SGMII (internal PHY) can report decode errors via an interrupt. It
can also report autonegotiation status changes, but we don't need to track
those. The SGMII can recover automatically from most decode errors, so
we only reset the interface if we get multiple consecutive errors.
It's possible for bogus decode errors to be reported while the link is
being brought up. The interrupt is registered when the interface is
