Some tcpc device-drivers need to explicitly be told to watch for connection
events, otherwise the tcpc will not generate any TCPM_CC_EVENTs and devices
being plugged into the Type-C port will not be noticed.
For dual-role ports tcpm_start_drp_toggling() is used to tell the tcpc to
watch for connection events. Sofar we lack a similar callback to the tcpc
for single-role ports. With some tcpc-s such as the fusb302 this means
no TCPM_CC_EVENTs will be generated when the port is configured as a
single-role port.
This commit renames start_drp_toggling to start_toggling and since the
device-properties are parsed by the tcpm-core, adds a port_type parameter
to the start_toggling callback so that the tcpc_dev driver knows the
port-type and can act accordingly when it starts toggling.
The new start_toggling callback now always gets called if defined, instead
of only being called for DRP ports.
To avoid this causing undesirable functional changes all existing
start_drp_toggling implementations are not only renamed to start_toggling,
but also get a port_type check added and return -EOPNOTSUPP when port_type
is not DRP.

In some places, the code prints a human-readable USB endpoint
transfer type (e.g. "bulk"). This involves a switch statement
sometimes wrapped around in ({ ... }) block leading to code
repetition.
To make this scenario easier, here introduces usb_ep_type_string()
function, which returns a human-readable name of provided
endpoint type.
It also changes a few places switch was used to use this

This patch adds option to instruct the kernel to only authorize devices
connected to the internal ports. Previously we could either authorize
all or none (or, by default, we'd only authorize wired devices).

identification when requesting a handle to the mux, we can
replace the second parameter that is passed to the
typec_mux_get() function with a pointer to alternate mode

accessory modes.
This change means the naming of the mux device connections
can be updated. Alternate and Accessory Modes will both be

During HARD_RESET the data link is disconnected.
For self powered device, the spec is advising against doing that.
>From USB_PD_R3_0
7.1.5 Response to Hard Resets
Device operation during and after a Hard Reset is defined as follows:
Self-powered devices Should Not disconnect from USB during a Hard Reset
(see Section 9.1.2).
Bus powered devices will disconnect from USB during a Hard Reset due to the
loss of their power source.
Tackle this by letting TCPM know whether the device is self or bus powered.
This overcomes unnecessary port disconnections from hard reset.
Also, speeds up the enumeration time when connected to Type-A ports.

feature to let a host turn individual parts of an audio function
to different power states via USB requests. This lets the device
get to know a bit amore about what the host is up to in order to
optimize power consumption efficiently.
The Power Domains are optional for UAC3 configuration but all

the support for Power Domains is compulsory.
This patch adds a set of features/helpers to parse these power
domains and change their status.

This patch adds support for the Processig Units defined in
the UAC3 spec. The main difference with the previous specs
is the lack of on/off switches in the controls for these
units and the addiction of the new Multi Function Processing
Unit.
The current version of the UAC3 spec doesn't define any
useful controls for the new Multi Function Processing Unit
so no control will get created once this unit is parsed.

In order for the muxes to be usable with alternate modes,
the alternate mode devices will need also to be able to get
a handle to the muxes on top of the port devices. To make
that possible, the muxes need to be possible to request with
an identifier.
This will change the API so that the mux identifier is given
as a function parameter to typec_mux_get(), and the hard-coded
"typec-mux" is replaced with that value.

When a USB device attached to a root-hub port sends a wakeup request
to a sleeping system, we do not report the wakeup event to the PM
core. This is because a system resume involves waking up all
suspended USB ports as quickly as possible; without the normal
USB_RESUME_TIMEOUT delay, the host controller driver doesn't set the
USB_PORT_STAT_C_SUSPEND flag and so usb_port_resume() doesn't realize
that a wakeup request was received.
However, some environments (such as Chrome OS) want to have all wakeup
events reported so they can be ascribed to the appropriate device. To
accommodate these environments, this patch adds a new routine to the
hub driver and a corresponding new HCD method to be used when a root
hub resumes. The HCD method returns a bitmap of ports that have
initiated a wakeup signal but not yet completed resuming. The hub
driver can then report to the PM core that the child devices attached
to these ports initiated a wakeup event.

This adds support for the UAC3 insertion controls. The status
is reported as a boolean value in the same way it used to do
for UAC2. Hence, the presence of any connector in the response
will make the control saying the jack is connected.
The UAC2 support for this control has been moved to a dedicated
control for connectors as both UAC2 and UAC3 follow a specific
Control Request Parameter Block for this control. This parameter
block for UAC3 could not be read in the same simplistic
manner as in UAC2.
This implementation is not requesting additional information
from the HIGH CAPABILITY Connectors descriptor.
Tested with an UAC3 device with UAC2 as legacy configuration.
The connector status can be read with `amixer` and the interrupt
is also caught with `alsactl monitor`.

The gitk output made me dizzy, but it's slightly better than

OK, below are some highlights:
- Continued hardening works in ALSA PCM core; most of the

- USB-audio got the initial USB Audio Class 3 support, as well
as UAC2 jack detection support and more DSD-device support.
- ASoC componentization: finally each individual driver was
converted to components framework, which is more future-proof
for further works. Most of conversations were systematic.
- Lots of fixes for Intel Baytrail / Cherrytrail devices with
Realtek codecs, typically tablets and small PCs.
- Fixes / cleanups for Samsung Odroid systems
- Cleanups in Freescale SSI driver
- New ASoC drivers:

* Intel Kabylake machine drivers
* Maxim MAX9759 codec
* Motorola CPCAP codec
* Socionext Uniphier SoCs

Here is the big set of USB and PHY driver patches for 4.17-rc1.
Lots of USB typeC work happened this round, with code moving from the
staging directory into the "real" part of the kernel, as well as new
infrastructure being added to be able to handle the different types of
"roles" that typeC requires.
There is also the normal huge set of USB gadget controller and driver

over the USB tree. And the PHY driver updates are merged in here as
well as they interacted with the USB drivers in some places.

This removes the entire architecture code for blackfin, cris, frv, m32r,
metag, mn10300, score, and tile, including the associated device drivers.
I have been working with the (former) maintainers for each one to ensure
that my interpretation was right and the code is definitely unused in
mainline kernels. Many had fond memories of working on the respective
ports to start with and getting them included in upstream, but also saw
no point in keeping the port alive without any users.
In the end, it seems that while the eight architectures are extremely
different, they all suffered the same fate: There was one company
in charge of an SoC line, a CPU microarchitecture and a software
ecosystem, which was more costly than licensing newer off-the-shelf
CPU cores from a third party (typically ARM, MIPS, or RISC-V). It seems
that all the SoC product lines are still around, but have not used the
custom CPU architectures for several years at this point. In contrast,
CPU instruction sets that remain popular and have actively maintained
kernel ports tend to all be used across multiple licensees.
The removal came out of a discussion that is now documented at
https://lwn.net/Articles/748074/. Unlike the original plans, I'm not
marking any ports as deprecated but remove them all at once after I made
sure that they are all unused. Some architectures (notably tile, mn10300,
and blackfin) are still being shipped in products with old kernels,
but those products will never be updated to newer kernel releases.
After this series, we still have a few architectures without mainline
gcc support:
- unicore32 and hexagon both have very outdated gcc releases, but the
maintainers promised to work on providing something newer. At least
in case of hexagon, this will only be llvm, not gcc.
- openrisc, risc-v and nds32 are still in the process of finishing their
support or getting it added to mainline gcc in the first place.
They all have patched gcc-7.3 ports that work to some degree, but
complete upstream support won't happen before gcc-8.1. Csky posted
their first kernel patch set last week, their situation will be similar.

Roger Quadros (TI) added support for dual-role using the OTG block

We have a new SoC supported in dwc3 now - Amlogic Meson GX - thanks to
the work of Martin Blumenstingl.
We also have a ton of changes in dwc2 (51% of all changes, in
fact). The most interesting part there is the support for
Hibernation (a Synopsys PM feature).
Apart from these, we have our regular set of non-critical fixes all

This patch fixes code readability and should have no functional change.
Correct uac control query functions to account for the 1-based indexing
of USB Audio Class control identifiers.
The function parameter, u8 control, should be the
constant defined in audio-v2.h to identify the control to be checked for
readability or writeability.
This patch fixes all callers that had adjusted, and makes explicit
the mapping between audio_feature_info[] array index and the associated
control identifier.

Some UDC may want to allocate endpoints dynamically, either because
the HW supports an arbitrary large number or because (like the Aspeed
BMC SoCs), the pool of HW endpoints is shared between multiple gadgets.
The allocation side can be done rather easily using the existing
match_ep() UDC hook.
However we have no good place to "free" them.
This implements a "simple" variant of this, which calls an EP dispose
callback on all EPs associated with a gadget when the composite device
gets unbound.
This is required by my upcoming Aspeed vHub driver.

Setting the mux to MUX_NONE and the switch to USB_SWITCH_DISCONNECT when
the data-role is device is not correct. Plenty of devices support
operating as USB device through a (separate) USB device controller.
We really need 2 different versions of USB_SWITCH_CONNECT,
USB_SWITCH_CONNECT_HOST and USB_SWITCH_DEVICE. Rather then modifying the
tcpc_usb_switch enum for this, simply remove it and switch to the
usb_role enum which provides exactly this, this will save use needing to
convert betweent the 2 enums when calling an usb-role-switch driver later.
Besides switching to the usb_role type, this commit also actually sets the
mux to TYPEC_MUX_USB and the switch to USB_ROLE_DEVICE instead of setting
both to none when the data-role is device.
This commit also makes tcpm_reset_port() call tcpm_mux_set(port,
TYPEC_MUX_NONE, USB_ROLE_NONE) so that the mux and switch
do _not_ stay in their last mode after a detach.

USB role switch is a device that can be used to choose the
data role for USB connector. With dual-role capable USB
controllers, the controller itself will be the switch, but
on some platforms the USB host and device controllers are
separate IPs and there is a mux between them and the
connector. On those platforms the mux driver will need to
register the switch.
With USB Type-C connectors, the host-to-device relationship
is negotiated over the Configuration Channel (CC). That
means the USB Type-C drivers need to be in control of the
role switch. The class provides a simple API for the USB
Type-C drivers for the control.
For other types of USB connectors (mainly microAB) the class
provides user space control via sysfs attribute file that
can be used to request role swapping from the switch.

USB Type-C connectors consist of various muxes and switches
that route the pins on the connector to the right locations.
The USB Type-C drivers need to be able to control the muxes,
as they are the ones that know things like the cable plug
orientation, and the current mode that was negotiated with
the partner.
This introduces a small API for registering and controlling
cable plug orientation switches, and separate small API for
registering and controlling pin multiplexer/demultiplexer
switches that are needed with Accessory/Alternate Modes.

With the new PHY wrapper in place we can now handle multiple PHYs.
Remove the code which handles only one generic PHY as this is now
covered (with support for multiple PHYs as well as suspend/resume

This integrates the PHY wrapper into the core hcd infrastructure.
Multiple PHYs which are part of the HCD's device tree node are now
managed (= powered on/off when needed), by the new usb_phy_roothub code.
Suspend and resume is also supported, however not for
runtime/auto-suspend (which is triggered for example when no devices are
connected to the USB bus). This is needed on some SoCs (for example
Amlogic Meson GXL) because if the PHYs are disabled during auto-suspend
then devices which are plugged in afterwards are not seen by the host.
One example where this is required is the Amlogic GXL and GXM SoCs:
They are using a dwc3 USB controller with up to three ports enabled on
the internal roothub. Each port has it's own PHY which must be enabled
(if one of the PHYs is left disabled then none of the USB ports works at
all).
The new logic works on the Amlogic GXL and GXM SoCs because the dwc3
driver internally creates a xhci-hcd which then registers a HCD which
then triggers our new PHY wrapper.
USB controller drivers can opt out of this by setting
"skip_phy_initialization" in struct usb_hcd to true. This is identical
to how it works for a single USB PHY, so the "multiple PHY" handling is
disabled for drivers that opted out of the management logic of a single
PHY.

The USB HCD core driver parses the device-tree node for "phys" and
"usb-phys" properties. It also manages the power state of these PHYs
automatically.
However, drivers may opt-out of this behavior by setting "phy" or
"usb_phy" in struct usb_hcd to a non-null value. An example where this
is required is the "Qualcomm USB2 controller", implemented by the
chipidea driver. The hardware requires that the PHY is only powered on
after the "reset completed" event from the controller is received.
A follow-up patch will allow the USB HCD core driver to manage more than
one PHY. Add a new "skip_phy_initialization" bitflag to struct usb_hcd
so drivers can opt-out of any PHY management provided by the USB HCD
core driver.
This also updates the existing drivers so they use the new flag if they
want to opt out of the PHY management provided by the USB HCD core
driver. This means that for these drivers the new "multiple PHY"
handling (which will be added in a follow-up patch) will be disabled as
well.

When handling an OS descriptor request, one of the first operations is
to zero out the request buffer using the wLength from the setup packet.
There is no bounds checking, so a wLength > 4096 would clobber memory
adjacent to the request buffer. Fix this by taking the min of wLength
and the request buffer length prior to the memset. While at it, define
the buffer length in a header file so that magic numbers don't appear
throughout the code.
When returning data to the host, the data length should be the min of
the wLength and the valid data we have to return. Currently we are
returning wLength, thus requests for a wLength greater than the amount
of data in the OS descriptor buffer would return invalid (albeit zero'd)
data following the valid descriptor data. Fix this by counting the
number of bytes when constructing the data and using this when
determining the length of the request.

Corsair Strafe RGB keyboard does not respond to usb control messages
sometimes and hence generates timeouts.
Commit de3af5bf25 ("usb: quirks: add delay init quirk for Corsair
Strafe RGB keyboard") tried to fix those timeouts by adding
USB_QUIRK_DELAY_INIT.
Unfortunately, even with this quirk timeouts of usb_control_msg()
can still be seen, but with a lower frequency (approx. 1 out of 15):
[ 29.103520] usb 1-8: string descriptor 0 read error: -110
[ 34.363097] usb 1-8: can't set config #1, error -110
Adding further delays to different locations where usb control
messages are issued just moves the timeouts to other locations,
e.g.:
[ 35.400533] usbhid 1-8:1.0: can't add hid device: -110
[ 35.401014] usbhid: probe of 1-8:1.0 failed with error -110
The only way to reliably avoid those issues is having a pause after
each usb control message. In approx. 200 boot cycles no more timeouts
were seen.
Addionaly, keep USB_QUIRK_DELAY_INIT as it turned out to be necessary
to have the delay in hub_port_connect() after hub_port_init().
The overall boot time seems not to be influenced by these additional
delays, even on fast machines and lightweight distributions.

1. The vSafe5V Fixed Supply Object shall always be the first object.
2. The remaining Fixed Supply Objects, if present, shall be sent
in voltage order; lowest to highest.

Add OF device-tree support for USB interfaces.
USB "interface nodes" are children of USB "device nodes" and are
identified by an interface number and a configuration value:
&usb1 { /* host controller */
dev1: device@1 { /* device at port 1 */
compatible = "usb1234,5678";
reg = <1>;
#address-cells = <2>;
#size-cells = <0>;
interface@0,2 { /* interface 0 of configuration 2 */
compatible = "usbif1234,5678.config2.0";
reg = <0 2>;
};
};
};
The configuration component is not included in the textual
representation of an interface-node unit address for configuration 1:
&dev1 {
interface@0 { /* interface 0 of configuration 1 */
compatible = "usbif1234,5678.config1.0";
reg = <0 1>;
};
};
When a USB device of class 0 or 9 (hub) has only a single configuration
with a single interface, a special case "combined node" is used instead
of a device node with an interface node:
&usb1 {
device@2 {
compatible = "usb1234,abcd";
reg = <2>;
};
};
Combined nodes are shared by the two device structures representing the
USB device and its interface in the kernel's device model.
Note that, as for device nodes, the compatible strings for interface
nodes are currently not used.

It's good to have SPDX identifiers in all files to make it easier to
audit the kernel tree for correct licenses.
Update the drivers/usb/ and include/linux/usb* files with the correct
SPDX license identifier based on the license text in the file itself.
The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used
instead of the full boiler plate text.

Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.
By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.
Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.
This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.
How this work was done:
Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
- file had no licensing information it it.
- file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
- file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,
Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.
The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.
The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
- Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
- Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
lines of source
- File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
lines).
All documentation files were explicitly excluded.
The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.
- when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
COPYING file license applied.
For non */uapi/* files that summary was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 11139
and resulted in the first patch in this series.
If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH
Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930
and resulted in the second patch in this series.
- if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one
of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if
any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in
it (per prior point). Results summary:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270
GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17
LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15
GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14
((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5
LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4
LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1
and that resulted in the third patch in this series.
- when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
the concluded license(s).
- when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.
- In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).
- When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
- If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
in time.
In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.
Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.
In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.
Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
- a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
license ids and scores
- reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
- reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
SPDX license was correct
This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.
These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

The dwc2 driver got a few improvements to how we handle gadget state

This patch introduces the usb charger support based on usb phy that
makes an enhancement to a power driver. The basic conception of the
usb charger is that, when one usb charger is added or removed by
reporting from the extcon device state change, the usb charger will
report to power user to set the current limitation.
Power user can register a notifiee on the usb phy by issuing
usb_register_notifier() to get notified by charger status changes
or charger current changes.
we can notify what current to be drawn to power user according to
different charger type, and now we have 2 methods to get charger type.
One is get charger type from extcon subsystem, which also means the
charger state changes. Another is we can get the charger type from
USB controller detecting or PMIC detecting, and the charger state
changes should be told by issuing usb_phy_set_charger_state().

In the SG case this is already handled since a non-zero
request->num_mapped_sgs is a clear indicator that dma_map_sg()
had been called. While it would be nice to do the same for the
singly mapped case by simply checking for non-zero request->dma,
it's conceivable that 0 is a valid dma_addr_t handle. Hence add
a flag 'dma_mapped' to struct usb_request and use this to
determine the need to call dma_unmap_single(). Otherwise, if a
request is not DMA mapped then the result of calling
usb_request_unmap_request() would safely be a no-op.

The CDC-NCM driver can require large amounts of memory to create
skb's and this can be a problem when the memory becomes fragmented.
This especially affects embedded systems that have constrained
resources but wish to maximise the throughput of CDC-NCM with 16KiB
NTB's.
The issue is after running for a while the kernel memory can become
fragmented and it needs compacting.
If the NTB allocation is needed before the memory has been compacted
the atomic allocation can fail which can cause increased latency,
large re-transmissions or disconnections depending upon the data
being transmitted at the time.
This situation occurs for less than a second until the kernel has
compacted the memory but the failed devices can take a lot longer to
recover from the failed TX packets.
To ease this temporary situation I modified the CDC-NCM TX path to
temporarily switch into a reduced memory mode which allocates an NTB
that will fit into a USB_CDC_NCM_NTB_MIN_OUT_SIZE (default 2048 Bytes)
sized memory block and only transmit NTB's with a single network frame
until the memory situation is resolved.
Each time this issue occurs we wait for an increasing number of
reduced size allocations before requesting a full size one to not
put additional pressure on a low memory system.
Once the memory is compacted the CDC-NCM data can resume transmitting
at the normal tx_max rate once again.

Sometimes, the gadget driver we want to run has max_speed lower than
what the UDC supports. In such situations, UDC might want to make sure
we don't try to connect on speeds not supported by the gadget
driver (e.g. super-speed capable dwc3 with high-speed capable g_midi)
because that will just fail.
In order to make sure this situation never happens, we introduce a new
optional ->udc_set_speed() method which can be implemented by
interested UDC drivers.

This commit allows a gadget that does not support SuperSpeed to indicate
that it supports LPM. It does this by setting the 'lpm_capable' flag in
the gadget structure.
If a gadget sets this, the composite gadget framework will set the
bcdUSB to 0x0201 to indicate that this supports BOS descriptors, and
also return a USB 2.0 Extension descriptor as part of the BOS descriptor
set.

If usb/otg-fsm.h and usb/composite.h are included together

Prevent that by defining VDBG locally.
Also get rid of MPC_LOC which doesn't seem to be used

Add support for the net stats64 counters to the usbnet core. With that
in place put the hooks into every usbnet driver to use it.
This is a strait forward addition of 64bit counters for RX and TX packet
and byte counts. It is done in the same style as for the other net drivers
that support stats64. Note that the other stats fields remain as 32bit
sized values (error counts, etc).
The motivation to add this is that it is not particularly difficult to
get the RX and TX byte counts to wrap on 32bit platforms.

Add a calc_num_ports callback to the generic driver and verify that the

Note that the generic driver num_ports field was never used.
Signed-off-by: Johan Hovold <johan@kernel.org>
Allow subdrivers to modify the port-endpoint mapping by passing the
endpoint descriptors to calc_num_ports.
The callback can now also be used to verify that the required endpoints
exists and abort probing otherwise.
This will allow us to get rid of a few hacks in subdrivers that are
already modifying the port-endpoint mapping (or aborting probe due to
missing endpoints), but only after the port structures have been setup.

For xhci-hcd platform device, all the DMA parameters are not
configured properly, notably dma ops for dwc3 devices.
The idea here is that you pass in the parent of_node along with
the child device pointer, so it would behave exactly like the
parent already does. The difference is that it also handles all
the other attributes besides the mask.
sysdev will represent the physical device, as seen from firmware
or bus.Splitting the usb_bus->controller field into the
Linux-internal device (used for the sysfs hierarchy, for printks
and for power management) and a new pointer (used for DMA,
DT enumeration and phy lookup) probably covers all that we really
need.

XHCI debug capability (DbC) is an optional but standalone
functionality provided by an xHCI host controller. Software
learns this capability by walking through the extended
capability list of the host. XHCI specification describes
DbC in section 7.6.
This patch introduces the code to probe and initialize the
debug capability hardware during early boot. With hardware
initialized, the debug target (system on which this code is
running) will present a debug device through the debug port
(normally the first USB3 port). The debug device is fully
compliant with the USB framework and provides the equivalent
of a very high performance (USB3) full-duplex serial link
between the debug host and target. The DbC functionality is
independent of the xHCI host. There isn't any precondition
from the xHCI host side for the DbC to work.
One use for this feature is kernel debugging, for example
when your machine crashes very early before the regular
console code is initialized. Other uses include simpler,
lockless logging instead of a full-blown printk console
driver and klogd.

Some USB 2.0 devices erroneously report millisecond values in
bInterval. The generic config code manages to catch most of them,
but in some cases it's not completely enough.
The case at stake here is a USB 2.0 braille device, which wants to
announce 10ms and thus sets bInterval to 10, but with the USB 2.0
computation that yields to 64ms. It happens that one can type fast
enough to reach this interval and get the device buffers overflown,
leading to problematic latencies. The generic config code does not
catch this case because the 64ms is considered a sane enough value.
This change thus adds a USB_QUIRK_LINEAR_FRAME_INTR_BINTERVAL quirk
to mark devices which actually report milliseconds in bInterval,
and marks Vario Ultra devices as needing it.

powered on after a USB reset and before we toggle the run/stop
bit. Otherwise, the phy locks up and doesn't work properly.
Therefore, add a flag to skip any phy power management in the
core layer, leaving it up to the glue driver to manage.

We're currently emulating the vbus and id interrupts in the OTGSC
read API, but we also need to make sure that if we're handling
the events with extcon that we don't enable the interrupts for
those events in the hardware. Therefore, properly emulate this
register if we're using extcon, but don't enable the interrupts.
This allows me to get my cable connect/disconnect working
properly without getting spurious interrupts on my device that
uses an extcon for these two events.

Here's the big set of USB/PHY patches for 4.10-rc1.
A number of new drivers are here in this set of changes. We have a new
USB controller type "mtu3", a new usb-serial driver, and the usual churn
in the gadget subsystem and the xhci host controller driver, along with
a few other new small drivers added. And lots of little other changes
all over the USB and PHY driver tree. Full details are in the shortlog

Currently, each hub class request constant is defined by a line like:
#define ClearHubFeature (0x2000 | USB_REQ_CLEAR_FEATURE)
The "magic" number for the high byte is one of 0x20, 0xa0, 0x23, 0xa3.
The 0x80 bit that changes inditace USB_DIR_IN, and the 0x03 that
pops up is the difference between USB_RECIP_DEVICE (0x00) and
USB_RECIP_OTHER (0x03). The constant 0x20 bit is USB_TYPE_CLASS.
This patch eliminates those magic numbers by defining a macro to help
construct these hub class request from simpler constants.
Note that USB_RT_HUB is defined as (USB_TYPE_CLASS | USB_RECIP_DEVICE)
and that USB_RT_PORT is defined as (USB_TYPE_CLASS | USB_RECIP_OTHER).

Some platforms (e.g. USB-DMAC on R-Car SoCs) has memory alignment
restriction. If memory alignment is not match, the usb peripheral
driver decides not to use the DMA controller. Then, the performance
is not good.
In the case of u_ether.c, since it calls skb_reserve() in rx_submit(),
it is possible to cause memory alignment mismatch.
So, this patch adds a new quirk "quirk_avoids_skb_reserve" to avoid
skb_reserve() calling in u_ether.c to improve performance.
A peripheral driver will set this flag and network gadget drivers
(e.g. f_ncm.c) will reference the flag via gadget_avoids_skb_reserve().

It can sometimes be necessary for gadget drivers to process non-standard
control requests, which host devices can send without having sent
USB_REQ_SET_CONFIGURATION.
Therefore, the req_match() usb_function method is enhanced with the new
parameter "config0". When a USB configuration is active, this parameter
is false. When a non-core control request is processed in
composite_setup(), without an active configuration, req_match() of the
USB functions of all available configurations which implement this
function, is called with config0=true. Then the control request gets
processed by the first usb_function instance whose req_match() returns
true.

Some SoCs have a single phy-hw-block with multiple phys, this is
modelled by a single phy dts node, so we end up with multiple
controller nodes with a phys property pointing to the phy-node
of the otg-phy.
Only one of these controllers typically is an otg controller, yet we
were checking the first controller who uses a phy from the block and
then end up looking for a dr_mode property in e.g. the ehci controller.
This commit fixes this by adding an arg0 parameter to
of_usb_get_dr_mode_by_phy and make of_usb_get_dr_mode_by_phy
check that this matches the phandle args[0] value when looking for
the otg controller.

At least on n900 we have phy-twl4030-usb only generating cable
interrupts, and then have a separate USB PHY.
In order for musb to know the real cable status, we need to
clear any cached state until musb is ready. Otherwise the cable
status interrupts will get just ignored if the status does
not change from the initial state.
To do this, let's add a return value to musb_mailbox(), and
reset cached linkstat to MUSB_UNKNOWN on error. Sorry to cause

Some for documentation, some for tiny changes, thanks.
The XHCI controller presents two USB buses to the system - one for USB2

Mathias Nyman explains the current behaviour violates the XHCI spec:
hub_port_reset() will end up moving the corresponding xhci device slot
to default state.
As hub_port_reset() is called several times in hub_port_init() it
sounds reasonable that we could end up with two threads having their
xhci device slots in default state at the same time, which according to
xhci 4.5.3 specs still is a big no no:
"Note: Software shall not transition more than one Device Slot to the
Default State at a time"
So both threads fail at their next task after this.
One fails to read the descriptor, and the other fails addressing the
device.
Fix this in hub_port_init by locking the USB controller (instead of an
individual bus) to prevent simultaneous initialisation of both buses.

Add the 'ssp_descriptors' parameter to the usb_assign_descriptors()
function. This allows a function driver to add descriptors for
SuperSpeedPlus speeds if it supports it.
Also update all uses of this function in the gadget subsystem so that
they pass NULL for the ssp_descriptors parameters.

NCM buffer sizes are negotiated with the device independently of
the network device MTU. The RX buffers are allocated by the
usbnet framework based on the rx_urb_size value set by cdc_ncm. A
single RX buffer can hold a number of MTU sized packets.
The default usbnet change_mtu ndo only modifies rx_urb_size if it
is equal to hard_mtu. And the cdc_ncm driver will set rx_urb_size
and hard_mtu independently of each other, based on dwNtbInMaxSize
and dwNtbOutMaxSize respectively. It was therefore assumed that
usbnet_change_mtu() would never touch rx_urb_size. This failed to
consider the case where dwNtbInMaxSize and dwNtbOutMaxSize happens
to be equal.
Fix by implementing an NCM specific change_mtu ndo, modifying the
netdev MTU without touching the buffer size settings.

Queue a request to disabled ep doesn't make sense, and induce caller
make mistakes.
Here is a example for the android mtp gadget function driver. A mem
corruption can happen on below senario.
1) On disconnect, mtp driver disable its EPs,
2) During send_file_work and receive_file_work, mtp queues a request
to ep. (The mtp driver need improve its synchronization logic!)
3) mtp_function_unbind is invoked and all mtp requests are freed.
4) when udc process the request queued on step 2, will cause kernel
NULL pointer dereference exception.

We currently can't unload omap2430 MUSB platform glue driver module and
this cause issues for fixing the MUSB code further. The reason we can't
remove omap2430 is because it uses the PHY functions and also exports the
omap_musb_mailbox function that some PHY drivers are using.
Let's fix the issue by exporting a more generic musb_mailbox function
from the MUSB core and allow platform glue layers to register phy_callback
function as needed.
And now we can now also get rid of the include/linux/musb-omap.h.

Change behavior during registration of gadgets and
gadget drivers in udc-core. Instead of previous
approach when for successful probe of usb gadget driver
at least one usb gadget should be already registered
use another one where gadget drivers and gadgets
can be registered in udc-core independently.
Independent registration of gadgets and gadget drivers
is useful for built-in into kernel gadget and gadget
driver case - because it's possible that gadget is
really probed only on late_init stage (due to deferred
probe) whereas gadget driver's probe is silently failed
on module_init stage due to no any UDC added.
Also it is useful for modules case - now there is no
difference what module to insert first: gadget module
or gadget driver one.

The current code has info->bufnmb_last to calculate the BUFNMB bits of
PIPEBUF register. However, since the bufnmb_last is initialized in
the usbhs_pipe_init() only, this driver is possible to set unexpected
value to the register if usb_ep_{enable,disable}() are called many times.
So, this patch modifies the pipe configuration via struct
renesas_usbhs_driver_param to simplify the code. Also this patch changes:

Some USB device / host controller combinations seem to have problems
with Link Power Management. For example, Steinar found that his xHCI
controller wouldn't handle bandwidth calculations correctly for two
video cards simultaneously when LPM was enabled, even though the bus
had plenty of bandwidth available.
This patch introduces a new quirk flag for devices that should remain
disabled for LPM, and creates quirk entries for Steinar's devices.

Pull SCSI target updates from Nicholas Bellinger:
"This series contains HCH's changes to absorb configfs attribute
->show() + ->store() function pointer usage from it's original
tree-wide consumers, into common configfs code.
It includes usb-gadget, target w/ drivers, netconsole and ocfs2
changes to realize the improved simplicity, that now renders the
original include/target/configfs_macros.h CPP magic for fabric drivers
and others, unnecessary and obsolete.
And with common code in place, new configfs attributes can be added
easier than ever before.
Note, there are further improvements in-flight from other folks for
v4.5 code in configfs land, plus number of target fixes for post -rc1
code"
In the meantime, a new user of the now-removed old configfs API came in
through the char/misc tree in commit 7bd1d4093c ("stm class: Introduce
an abstraction for System Trace Module devices").
This merge resolution comes from Alexander Shishkin, who updated his stm
class tracing abstraction to account for the removal of the old
show_attribute and store_attribute methods in commit 517982229f
("configfs: remove old API") from this pull. As Alexander says about
that patch:
"There's no need to keep an extra wrapper structure per item and the
awkward show_attribute/store_attribute item ops are no longer needed.
This patch converts policy code to the new api, all the while making
the code quite a bit smaller and easier on the eyes.
Signed-off-by: Alexander Shishkin <alexander.shishkin@linux.intel.com>"
That patch was folded into the merge so that the tree should be fully
bisectable.

This patch introduces 'enabled' flag in struct usb_ep, and modifies
usb_ep_enable() and usb_ep_disable() functions to encapsulate endpoint
enabled/disabled state. It helps to avoid enabling endpoints which are
already enabled, and disabling endpoints which are already disables.
From now USB functions don't have to remember current endpoint
enable/disable state, as this state is now handled automatically which
makes this API less bug-prone.

New support for Allwinne SoC on the MUSB driver has been added to the list of
glue layers. MUSB also got support for building all DMA engines in one binary;
this will be great for distros.
DWC3 now has no trace of dev_dbg()/dev_vdbg() usage. We will rely solely on
tracing to debug DWC3. There was also a fix for memory corruption with EP0 when
maxpacket size transfers are > 512 bytes.
Robert's EP capabilities flags is making EP selection a lot simpler. UDCs are
now required to set these flags up when adding endpoints to the framework.
Other than these, we have the usual set of miscelaneous cleanups and minor

The system bus and chipidea IP have different limitations for
both host and device mode.
For example, with below errata, we need to enable SDIS(Stream Disable
Mode) at host mode. But we don't want it for device mode at the
same system.
TAR 9000378958
Title: Non-Double Word Aligned Buffer Address Sometimes Causes Host to
Hang on OUT Retry
Impacted Configuration: Host mode, all transfer types
Description:
The host core operating in streaming mode may under run while sending
the data packet of an OUT transaction. This under run can occur if
there are unexpected system delays in fetching the remaining packet
data from memory. The host forces a bad CRC on the packet, the device
detects the error and discards the packet. The host then retries a Bulk,
Interrupt, or Control transfer if an under run occurs according to the
USB specification. During simulations, it was found that the host does
not issue the retry of the failed bulk OUT. It does not issue any other
transactions except SOF packets that have incorrect frame numbers.
The second failure mode occurs if the under run occurs on an ISO OUT
transaction and the next ISO transaction is a zero byte packet. The host
does not issue any transactions (including SOFs). The device detects a
Suspend condition, reverts to full speed, and waits for resume signaling.
A third failure mode occurs when the host under runs on an ISO OUT and
the next ISO in the schedule is an ISO OUT with two max packets of 1024
bytes each. The host should issue MDATA for the first OUT followed by
DATA1 for the second. However, it drops the MDATA transaction, and
issues the DATA1 transaction.
The system impact of this bug is the same regardless of the failure mode
observed. The host core hangs, the ehci_ctrl state machine waits for the
protocol engine to send the completion status for the corrupted
transaction, which never occurs. No indication is sent to the host
controller driver, no register bits change and no interrupts occur.
Eventually the requesting application times out.
Detailed internal behavior:
The EHCI control state machine (ehci_ctrl) in the DMA block is responsible
for parsing the schedules and initiating all transactions. The ehci_ctrl
state machine passes the transaction details to the protocol block by
writing the transaction information in to the TxFIFO. It then asserts
the pe_hst_run_pkt signal to inform the host protocol state machine
(pe_hst_state) that there is a packet in the TxFIFO.
A tag of 0x0 indicates a start of packet with the data providing the
following information:
35:32 Tag
31:30 Reserved
29:23 Endpoint (lowest 4 bits)
22:16 Address
15:10 Reserved
9:8 Endpoint speed
7:6 Endpoint type
5:6 Data Toggle
3:0 PID
The pe_hst_state reads the packet information and constructs the packet
and issues it to the PHY interface.
The ehci_ctrl state machine writes the start transaction information in
to the TxFIFO as 0x03002910c for the OUT packet that had the under run
error. However, it writes 0xC3002910C for the retry of the Out
transaction, which is incorrect.
The pe_hst_state enters a bus timeout state after sending the bad CRC
for the packet that under ran. It then purges any data that was back
filled in to the TxFIFO for the packet that under ran. The pe_hst_state
machine stops purging the TxFIFO when it is empty or if it reads a
location that has a tag of 0x0, indicating a start of packet command.
The pe_hst_state reads 0xC3002910C and discards it as it does not decode
to a start of packet command. It continues to purge the OUT data that
has been pre-buffered for the OUT retry . The pe_hst_state detects the
hst_packet_run signal and attempts to read the PID and address
information from the TxFIFO. This location has packet data and so does
not decode to a valid PID and so falls through to the PE_HST_SOF_LOAD
state where the frame_num_counter is updated. The frame_num_counter
is updated with the data in the TxFIFO. In this case, the data is
incorrect as the ehci_ctrl state machine did not initiate the load.
The hst_pe_state machine detects the SOF request signal and sends an
SOF with the bad frame number. Meanwhile, the ehci_ctrl state machine
waits indefinitely in the run_pkt state waiting for the completion
status from pe_hst_state machine, which will never happen.
The ISO failure case is similar except that there is no retry for ISO.
The ehci_ctrl state machine moves to the next transfer in the periodic
schedule. If the under run occurs on the last entry of the periodic
list then it moves to the Async schedule.
In the case of ISO OUT simulations, the next ISO is a zero byte OUT
and again the start of packet command gets corrupted. The TxFIFO is
empty when the hst_pe_state attempts to read the Address and PID
information as the transaction is a zero byte packet. This results
in the hst_pe_state machine staying in the GET_PID state, which means
that it does not issue any transactions (including SOFs). The device
detects a Suspend condition and reverts to full speed mode and waits
for a Resume or Reset signal.
The EHCI specification allows a Non-DoubleWord (32 bits) offset to
be used as a current offset for Buffer Pointer Page 0 of the qTD.
In Non-DoubleWord aligned cases, the core reads the packet data
from the AHB memory, performs the alignment operation before writing
it in to the TxFIFO as a 32 bit data word. An End Of Packet tag (EOP)
is written to the TxFIFO after all the packet data has been written
in to the TxFIFO. The alignment function is reset to Idle by the EOP
tag. The corruption of the start of packet command arises because the
packet buffer for the OUT transaction that under ran is not aligned
to a DoubleWord, and hence no EOP tag is written to the TxFIFO. The
alignment function is still active when the start packet information
is written in to the TxFIFO for the retry of the bulk packet or for
the next transaction in the case of an under run on an ISO. This
results in the corruption of the start tag and the transaction
information.
Click for waveform showing the command 0x 0000300291 being written in
to the TX FIFO for the Out that under ran.
Click for waveform showing the command 0xC3002910C written to the
TxFIFO instead of 0x 0000300291
Versions affected: Versions 2.10a and previous versions
How discovered: Customer simulation
Workaround:
1- The EHCI specification allows a non-DoubleWord offset to be used
as a current offset for Buffer Pointer Page 0 of the qTD. However,
if a DoubleWord offset is used then this issue does not arise.
2- Use non streaming mode to eliminate under runs.
Resolution:
The fix involves changes to the traffic state machine in the
vusb_hs_dma_traf block. The ehci_ctrl state machine updates the context
information by encoding the transaction results on the
hst_op_context_update signals at the end of a transaction. The signal
hst_op_context_update is added to the traffic state machine, and the
tx_fifo_under_ran_r signal is generated if the transaction results in
an under run error. Click for waveform
The traffic state machine then traverses to the do_eop states if the
tx_fifo_under_ran error is asserted. Thus an EOP tag is written in to
the TxFIFO as shown in this waveform .
The EOP tag resets the align state machine to the Idle state ensuring
that the next command written by the echi_ctrl state machine does not
get corrupted.

ITC (Interrupt Threshold Control) is used to set the maximum rate at which
the host/device controller will issue interrupts. The default value is 8 (1ms)
for it. EHCI core will modify it to 1, but device mode keeps it as default
value.
In some use cases like Android ADB, it only has one usb request for each
direction, and maximum payload data is only 4KB, so the speed is 4MB/s
at most, it needs controller to trigger interrupt as fast as possible
to increase the speed. The USB performance will be better if the interrupt
can be triggered faster.
Reduce ITC value is benefit for USB performance, but the interrupt number
is increased at the same time, it may increase cpu utilization too.
Most of use case cares about performance, but some may care about
cpu utilization, so, we leave a platform interface for user.
We set ITC as 1 (1 micro-frame) as default value which is aligned
with ehci core default value.

The register of ttctrl.ttha describes like below:
- Internal TT Hub Address Representation
- RW
- Default = 0000000b
This field is used to match against the Hub Address field in QH & siTD
to determine if the packet is routed to the internal TT for directly
attached FS/LS devices. If the Hub Address in the QH or siTD does not
match this address then the packet will be broadcast on the High Speed
ports destined for a downstream High Speed hub with the address in the QH/siTD.
In silicon RTL, this entry only affects QH and siTD, and the hub.addr at
both QH and siTD are 0 in ehci core for chipidea (with hcd->has_tt = 1).
So, for QH, if the "usage_tt" flag at RTL is 0, set CI_HDRC_SET_NON_ZERO_TTHA
will not affect QH (with non-hs device); for siTD, set this flag
will change remaining space requirement for the last transaction from 1023
bytes to 188 bytes, it can increase the number of transactions within one
frame, ehci periodic schedule code will not queue the packet if the frame space
is full, so it is safe to set this flag for siTD.
With this flag, it can fix the problem Alan Stern reported below:
http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-usb/msg123125.html
And may fix Michael Tessier's problem too.

So far it was necessary for usb functions to set ep->driver_data in
endpoint obtained from autoconfig to non-null value, to indicate that
endpoint is claimed by function (in autoconfig it was checked if endpoint
has set this field to non-null value, and if it has, it was assumed that
it is claimed). It could cause bugs because if some function doesn't
set this field autoconfig could return the same endpoint more than one
time.
To help to avoid such bugs this patch adds claimed flag to struct usb_ep,
and encapsulates endpoint claiming mechanism inside usb_ep_autoconfig_ss()
and usb_ep_autoconfig_reset(), so now usb functions don't need to perform
any additional actions to mark endpoint obtained from autoconfig as claimed.
