Extract the GPLL reference frequency from CCK and use it in the
GPU freq<->opcode conversions on VLV/CHV. This eliminates all the
assumptions we have about which divider is used for which czclk
frequency.
Note that unlike most clocks from CCK, the GPLL ref clock is a divided
down version of the CZ clock rather than the HPLL clock. CZ clock itself
is a divided down version of the HPLL clock though, so in effect it just
gets divided down twice.

Due to timing issues in the HW, some of the status bits required for GuC
authentication occasionally don't get set; when that happens, the GuC
cannot be initialized and we will be left with a wedged GPU. The W/A
suggested is to perform a soft reset of the GuC and attempt to reload
the F/W again for few times before giving up.
As the failure is dependent on timing, tests performed by triggering
manual full gpu reset (i915_wedged) showed that we could sometimes hit
this after several thousand iterations, but sometimes tests ran even
longer without any issues. Reset and reload mechanism proved helpful
when we indeed hit f/w load failure, so it is better to include this
to improve driver stability.

DPLL_MD(PIPE_C) is AWOL on CHV. Instead of fixing it someone added
chicken bits to propagate the pixel multiplier from DPLL_MD(PIPE_B)
to either pipe B or C. So do that to make pixel repeat work on pipes
B and C. Pipe A is fine without any tricks.
Fortunately the pixel repeat propagation appears to be a oneshot
operation, so once the value has been written we can clear the
chicken bits. So it is still possible to drive pipe B and C with
different pixel multipliers simultaneosly.
Looks like DPLL_VGA_MODE_DIS must also be set in DPLL(PIPE_B)
for this to work. But since we keep that bit always set in all
DPLLs there's no problem.
This of course means we can't reliably read out the pixel multiplier
for pipes B and C. That would make the state checker unhappy, so I
added shadow copies of those registers in to dev_priv. The other
option would have been to skip pixel multiplier, dpll_md an dotclock
checks entirely on CHV, but that feels like a serious loss of cross
checking, so just pretending that we have working DPLL MD registers
seemed better. Obviously with the shadow copies we can't detect if
the pixel multiplier was properly configured, nor can we take over
its state from the BIOS, but hopefully people won't have displays
that would be limitd to such crappy modes.
There is one strange flicker still remaining. It's visible on
pipe C/HDMID when HDMIB is enabled while driven by pipe B.
It doesn't occur if pipe A drives HDMIB, nor is there any glitch
on pipe B/HDMIB when port C/HDMID starts up. I don't have a board
with HDMIC so not sure if it happens there too. So I'm not sure
if it's somehow tied in with this strange linkage between pipe B
and C. Sadly I was unable to find an enable sequence that would
avoid the glitch, but at least it's not fatal ie. the output
recovers afterwards.

Currently the machine hangs during booting while accessing the
BXT_MIPI_PORT_CTRL register during pipe HW state readout. After some
experimentation I found that the hang is caused by the DSI PLL being
disabled, or it being enabled but with an incorrect divider
configuration. Enabling the PLL got rid of the boot problem, so fix
this by checking the PLL enabled state/configuration before attempting
to read out the HW state.
The DSI_PLL_ENABLE register is in the always-on power well, while the
BXT_DSI_PLL_CTL is in power well 0. This isn't exactly matched by the
transcoder power domain, but what we really need is just a runtime PM
reference, which is provided by any power domain.

least they do on the machine I have, and apparently on Nick Bowler's

So gm45 may be the only platform where they don't agree. At least
that seems to be the case based on the (somewhat incomplete)

So let's change the bits to match the spec on g4x. That actually makes
the g4x bits identical to vlv/chv so we can just share the code

Some of the HW registers are privileged and cannot be written to from
non-privileged batch buffers coming from userspace unless they are added to
the HW whitelist. This whitelist is maintained by HW and it is different from
SW whitelist. Userspace need write access to them to implement preemption
related WA.
The reason for using this approach is, the register bits that control
preemption granularity at the HW level are not context save/restored; so even
if we set these bits always in kernel they are going to change once the
context is switched out. We can consider making them non-privileged by
default but these registers also contain other chicken bits which should not
be allowed to be modified.
In the later revisions controlling bits are save/restored at context level but
in the existing revisions these are exported via other debug registers and
should be on the whitelist. This patch adds changes to provide HW with a list
of registers to be whitelisted. HW checks this list during execution and
provides access accordingly.
HW imposes a limit on the number of registers on whitelist and it is
per-engine. At this point we are only enabling whitelist for RCS and we don't
foresee any requirement for other engines.
The registers to be whitelisted are added using generic workaround list
mechanism, even these are only enablers for userspace workarounds. But by
sharing this mechanism we get some test assets without additional cost (Mika).
v2: rebase
v3: parameterize RING_FORCE_TO_NONPRIV() as _MMIO() should be limited to
i915_reg.h (Ville), drop inline for wa_ring_whitelist_reg (Mika).
v4: improvements suggested by Chris Wilson.
Clarify that this is HW whitelist and different from the one maintained in
driver. This list is engine specific but it gets initialized along with other
WA which is RCS specific thing, so make it clear that we are not doing any
cross engine setup during initialization.
Make HW whitelist count of each engine available in debugfs.

disable clock bending for the PCH SSC reference (bend and spread are
mutually exclusive). So let's turn off bending when we want spread.
In case the BIOS enabled clock bending for some reason we'll just turn
it off and enable the spread mode instead.
Not sure what happens if the BIOS is actually using the bend source for
HDMI at this time, but I suppose it should be no worse than what already
happens when we simply turn on the spread.
We don't currently use the bend source for anything, and only use the

Make I915_READ and I915_WRITE more type safe by wrapping the register
offset in a struct. This should eliminate most of the fumbles we've had
with misplaced parens.
This only takes care of normal mmio registers. We could extend the idea
to other register types and define each with its own struct. That way
you wouldn't be able to accidentally pass the wrong thing to a specific
register access function.
The gpio_reg setup is probably the ugliest thing left. But I figure I'd
just leave it for now, and wait for some divine inspiration to strike
before making it nice.
As for the generated code, it's actually a bit better sometimes. Eg.
looking at i915_irq_handler(), we can see the following change:
lea 0x70024(%rdx,%rax,1),%r9d
mov $0x1,%edx
- movslq %r9d,%r9
- mov %r9,%rsi
- mov %r9,-0x58(%rbp)
- callq *0xd8(%rbx)
+ mov %r9d,%esi
+ mov %r9d,-0x48(%rbp)
callq *0xd8(%rbx)
So previously gcc thought the register offset might be signed and
decided to sign extend it, just in case. The rest appears to be
mostly just minor shuffling of instructions.

At various points when changing the DPIO lane/phy power states,
construct an expected value of the DISPLAY_PHY_STATUS register
and compare it with the real thing.
To construct the expected value we look at our shadow PHY_CONTROL
register value (which should match what we've just written to the
hardware), and we also need to look at the actual state of the cmn
power wells as a disabled power well causes the relevant LDO status
to be reported as 'on' in DISPLAY_PHY_STATUS.
When initially powering up the PHY it performs various internal
calibrations for which it fully powers up. That means that if we check
for the expetected power state immediately upon releasing cmnreset we
would get the occasional false positive. But we can of course
poll until the expected value appears. It shouldn't be too long so
this shouldn't make modesets substantially longer.
One extra complication is introduced when we cross the streams, ie.
drive port B with pipe B. In this case we trick CL2 (where the DPLL lives)
into life by temporaily powering up the lanes in the second channel,
and once the pipe is up and runnign we release the lane power override.
At that point the power state of CL2 has somehow gotten entangled with
the power state of the first channel. That means that constructing the
expected DISPLAY_PHY_STATUS value is a bit tricky since based on the
lane power states in the second channel, CL2 should also be powered
down. But we can use the DPLL enable bit to determine when CL2 should
be alive even if the lanes are powered down. However the power state
of CL2 isn't actually tied in with the DPLL state, but to the state
of the lanes in first channel, so we have to avoid checking the
expected state between shutting down the DPLL and powering down
the lanes in the first channel. So no calling assert_chv_phy_status()
before the DISPLAY_PHY_CONTROL write in chv_phy_powergate_lanes(),
but after the write is a safe time to check.

Add some checks that the state of the DPIO lanes is more or less what we
expect based on the overrides.
The hardware only provides two bits per channel indicating whether all
or some of the lanes are powered down, so we can't do an exact check.
Additionally, CL2 powering down before we can check it adds another
twist. To work around this we simply check for the 0 value of the
CL2 register (which is what we get when it's powered down) and
adjust our expectations.

Powergate the PHY lanes when they're not needed. For HDMI all four lanes
are needed always, but for DP we can enable only the needed lanes. To
power down the unused lanes we use some power down override bits in the
DISPLAY_PHY_CONTROL register. Without the overrides it appears that the
hardware always powers on all the lanes. When the port is disabled the
power down override is not needed and the lanes will shut off on their
own. That also means the override is critical to actually be able to
access the DPIO registers before the port is actually enabled.
Additionally the common lanes will power down when not needed. CL1
remains on as long as anything else is on, CL2 will shut down when
all the lanes in the same channel will shut down. There is one exception
for CL2 that will be dealt in a separate patch for clarity.
With potentially some lanes powered down, the DP code now has to check
the number of active lanes before accessing PCS/TX registers. All
registers in powered down blocks will reads as 0xffffffff, and soe we
would drown in warnings from vlv_dpio_read() if we allowed the code
to access all those registers.
Another important detail in the DP code is the "TX latency optimal"
setting. Normally the second TX lane acts as some kind of reset master,
with the other lanes as slaves. But when only a single lane is enabled,
that single lane obviously has to be the master.
A bit of extra care is needed to reconstruct the initial state of the
DISPLAY_PHY_CONTROL register since it can't be read safely. So instead
read the actual lane status from the DPLL/PHY_STATUS registers and
use that to determine which lanes ought to be powergated initially.
We also need to switch the PHY power modes to "deep PSR" to avoid
a hard system hang when powering down the single channel PHY.
Also sprinkle a few debug prints around so that we can monitor the
DISPLAY_PHY_STATUS changes without having to read it and risk
corrupting it.

I started digging this when I noticed that the BDW code was just
reserving 1mb by coincidence since it was reading reserved fields.
Then I noticed we didn't have any values set for SNB and earlier, and
that the HSW sizes were wrong. After that, I noticed that the reserved
area has a specific start, and may not exactly end where the stolen
memory ends. I also noticed the base pointer can be zero. So I decided
to just write a single patch fixing everything instead of 20 patches
that would be much harder to review.
This patch may solve random stolen memory corruption/problems on
almost all platforms. Notice that since this is always dealing with
the top of the stolen memory, the problems are not so easy to
reproduce - especially since FBC is still disabled by default.
One of the major differences of this patch is that we now look at both
the size and base address. By only looking at the size we were
assuming that the reserved area was always at the very top of
stolen, which is not always true.
After we merge the patch series that allows user space to allocate
stolen memory we'll be able to write IGT tests that maybe catch the
bugs fixed by this patch.

patch is intended to be minimal but sufficient to cover the needs of
current userspace - i.e. a good set of defaults. It is expected to be
extended in the future to provide further default values or to allow
userspace to redefine its private MOCS tables based on its demand for
additional caching configurations. In this setup, userspace should
only utilize the first N entries, higher entries are reserved for
future use.
It creates a fixed register set that is programmed across the different
engines so that all engines have the same table. This is done as the
main RCS context only holds the registers for itself and the shared
L3 values. By trying to keep the registers consistent across the
different engines it should make the programming for the registers
consistent.

e/LLC-specific defines with LE_ to avoid this kind of confusion in
the future.
- Change L3CC WT define back to RESERVED (matches my hardware
documentation and the original patch, probably a misunderstanding
of my own previous comment).
- Drop Android tables, define new minimal tables more suitable for the
open source stack.
- Add comment that the MOCS tables are part of the kernel ABI.
- Move intel_logical_ring_begin() and _advance() calls one level down

In this WA we need to set GEN8_L3SQCREG4[21:21] and reset it after PIPE_CONTROL
instruction but there is a slight complication as this is applied in WA batch
where the values are only initialized once.
Dave identified an issue with the current implementation where the register value
is read once at the beginning and it is reused; this patch corrects this by saving
the register value to memory, update register with the bit of our interest and
restore it back with original value.
This implementation uses MI_LOAD_REGISTER_MEM which is currently only used
by command parser and was using a default length of 0. This is now updated
with correct length and moved to appropriate place.

Consider which planes are active and compute the FIFO split based on the
relative data rates. Since we only consider the pipe src width rather
than the plane width when computing watermarks it seems best to do the
same when computing the FIFO split as well. This means the only thing we
actually have to consider for the FIFO splut is the bpp, and we can
ignore the rest.
I've just stuffed the logic into the watermark code for now. Eventually
it'll need to move into the atomic update for the crtc.
There's also one extra complication I've not yet considered; Some of the
DSPARB registers contain bits related to multiple pipes. The registers
are double buffered but apparently they update on the vblank of any
active pipe. So doing the FIFO reconfiguration properly when multiple
pipes are active is not going to be fun. But let's ignore that mess for
now.

In order for gen8+ hardware to guarantee that no context switch
takes place during engine reset and that current context is properly
saved, the driver needs to notify and query hw before commencing
with reset.
There are gpu hangs where the engine gets so stuck that it never will
report to be ready for reset. We could proceed with reset anyway, but
with some hangs with skl, the forced gpu reset will result in a system
hang. By inspecting the unreadiness for reset seems to correlate with
the probable system hang.
We will only proceed with reset if all engines report that they
are ready for reset. If root cause for system hang is found and
can be worked around with another means, we can reconsider if
we can reinstate full reset for unreadiness case.

GCP infoframes are required to inform the HDMI sink about the color
depth.
Send the GCP infoframe whenever the sink supports any deep color modes
since such sinks must anyway be capable of receiving them. For sinks
that don't support deep color let's skip the GCP in case it might
confuse the sink, although HDMI 1.4 spec does say all sinks must be
capable of reciving them. In theory we could skip the GCP infoframe
for deep color sinks in 8bpc mode as well since sinks must fall back to
8bpc whenever GCP isn't received for some time.
BSpec says we should disable GCP after disabling the port, so do that as
well.
