Brian Foster e20e174ca1 xfs: convert inode to extent format after extent merge due to shift
The collapse range operation can merge extents if two newly adjacent
extents are physically contiguous. If the extent count is reduced on
a btree format inode, a change to extent format might be necessary.
This format change currently occurs as a side effect of the file
size update after extents have been shifted for the collapse. This
codepath ultimately calls xfs_bunmapi(), which happens to check for
and execute the format conversion even if there were no blocks
removed from the mapping.

While this ultimately puts the inode into the correct state, the
fact the format conversion occurs in a separate transaction from the
change that called for it is a problem. If an extent shift
transaction commits and the filesystem happens to crash before the
format conversion, the inode fork is left in a corrupted state after
log recovery. The inode fork verifier fails and xfs_repair
ultimately nukes the inode. This problem was originally reproduced
by generic/388.

Similar to how the insert range extent split code handles extent to
btree conversion, update the collapse range extent merge code to
handle btree to extent format conversion in the same transaction
that merges the extents. This ensures that the inode fork format
remains consistent if the filesystem happens to crash in the middle
of a collapse range operation that changes the inode fork format.

Merge tag 'selinux-pr-20190917' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/pcmoore/selinux

Pull selinux updates from Paul Moore:

 - Add LSM hooks, and SELinux access control hooks, for dnotify,
fanotify, and inotify watches. This has been discussed with both the
LSM and fs/notify folks and everybody is good with these new hooks.

 - The LSM stacking changes missed a few calls to current_security() in
the SELinux code; we fix those and remove current_security() for
   good.

 - Improve our network object labeling cache so that we always return
the object's label, even when under memory pressure. Previously we
would return an error if we couldn't allocate a new cache entry, now
we always return the label even if we can't create a new cache entry
   for it.

 - Convert the sidtab atomic_t counter to a normal u32 with
   READ/WRITE_ONCE() and memory barrier protection.

 - A few patches to policydb.c to clean things up (remove forward
declarations, long lines, bad variable names, etc)

Jens Axboe 32960613b7 io_uring: correctly handle non ->{read,write}_iter() file_operations
Currently we just -EINVAL a read or write to an fd that isn't backed
by ->read_iter() or ->write_iter(). But we can handle them just fine,
as long as we punt fo async context first.

Implement a simple loop function for doing ->read() or ->write()
instead, and ensure we call it appropriately.

Al Viro d4f4de5e5e Fix the locking in dcache_readdir() and friends
There are two problems in dcache_readdir() - one is that lockless traversal
of the list needs non-trivial cooperation of d_alloc() (at least a switch
to list_add_rcu(), and probably more than just that) and another is that
it assumes that no removal will happen without the directory locked exclusive.
Said assumption had always been there, never had been stated explicitly and
is violated by several places in the kernel (devpts and selinuxfs).

        * replacement of next_positive() with different calling conventions:
it returns struct list_head * instead of struct dentry *; the latter is
passed in and out by reference, grabbing the result and dropping the original
value.
        * scan is under ->d_lock. If we run out of timeslice, cursor is moved
after the last position we'd reached and we reschedule; then the scan continues
from that place. To avoid livelocks between multiple lseek() (with cursors
getting moved past each other, never reaching the real entries) we always
skip the cursors, need_resched() or not.
        * returned list_head * is either ->d_child of dentry we'd found or
->d_subdirs of parent (if we got to the end of the list).
        * dcache_readdir() and dcache_dir_lseek() switched to new helper.
dcache_readdir() always holds a reference to dentry passed to dir_emit() now.
Cursor is moved to just before the entry where dir_emit() has failed or into
the very end of the list, if we'd run out.
        * move_cursor() eliminated - it had sucky calling conventions and
after fixing that it became simply list_move() (in lseek and scan_positives)
or list_move_tail() (in readdir).

All operations with the list are under ->d_lock now, and we do not
depend upon having all file removals done with parent locked exclusive
anymore.

Linus Torvalds 84da111de0 hmm related patches for 5.4
This is more cleanup and consolidation of the hmm APIs and the very
strongly related mmu_notifier interfaces. Many places across the tree
using these interfaces are touched in the process. Beyond that a cleanup
to the page walker API and a few memremap related changes round out the
 series:

 - General improvement of hmm_range_fault() and related APIs, more
documentation, bug fixes from testing, API simplification &
   consolidation, and unused API removal

 - Simplify the hmm related kconfigs to HMM_MIRROR and DEVICE_PRIVATE, and
   make them internal kconfig selects

 - Hoist a lot of code related to mmu notifier attachment out of drivers by
using a refcount get/put attachment idiom and remove the convoluted
   mmu_notifier_unregister_no_release() and related APIs.

 - General API improvement for the migrate_vma API and revision of its only
   user in nouveau

 - Annotate mmu_notifiers with lockdep and sleeping region debugging

Two series unrelated to HMM or mmu_notifiers came along due to
 dependencies:

 - Allow pagemap's memremap_pages family of APIs to work without providing
   a struct device

 - Make walk_page_range() and related use a constant structure for function
   pointers

Steve French 7e7db86c7e smb3: allow decryption keys to be dumped by admin for debugging
In order to debug certain problems it is important to be able
to decrypt network traces (e.g. wireshark) but to do this we
need to be able to dump out the encryption/decryption keys.
Dumping them to an ioctl is safer than dumping then to dmesg,
(and better than showing all keys in a pseudofile).

Restrict this to root (CAP_SYS_ADMIN), and only for a mount
that this admin has access to.

NeilBrown 2030ca560c nfsd: degraded slot-count more gracefully as allocation nears exhaustion.
This original code in nfsd4_get_drc_mem() would hand out 30
slots (approximately NFSD_MAX_MEM_PER_SESSION bytes at slightly
over 2K per slot) to each requesting client until it ran out
of space, then it would possibly give one last client a reduced
allocation, then fail the allocation.

Since commit de766e5704 ("nfsd: give out fewer session slots as
limit approaches") the last 90 slots to be given to about 12
clients with quickly reducing slot counts (better than just 3
clients). This still seems unnecessarily hasty.
A subsequent patch allows over-allocation so every client gets
at least one slot, but that might be a bit restrictive.

The requested number of nfsd threads is the best guide we have to the
expected number of clients, so use that - if it is at least 8.

256 threads on a 256Meg machine - which is a lot for a tiny machine -
would result in nfsd_drc_max_mem being 2Meg, so 8K (3 slots) would be
available for the first client, and over 200 clients would get more
than 1 slot. So I don't think this change will be too debilitating on
poorly configured machines, though it does mean that a sensible
configuration is a little more important.

NeilBrown 7f49fd5d7a nfsd: handle drc over-allocation gracefully.
Currently, if there are more clients than allowed for by the
space allocation in set_max_drc(), we fail a SESSION_CREATE
request with NFS4ERR_DELAY.
This means that the client retries indefinitely, which isn't
a user-friendly response.

The RFC requires NFS4ERR_NOSPC, but that would at best result in a
clean failure on the client, which is not much more friendly.

The current space allocation is a best-guess and doesn't provide any
guarantees, we could still run out of space when trying to allocate
drc space.

So fail more gracefully - always give out at least one slot.
If all clients used all the space in all slots, we might start getting
memory pressure, but that is possible anyway.

So ensure 'num' is always at least 1, and remove the test for it
being zero.

Christoph Hellwig 838c4f3d75 iomap: move the iomap_dio_rw ->end_io callback into a structure
Add a new iomap_dio_ops structure that for now just contains the end_io
handler. This avoid storing the function pointer in a mutable structure,
which is a possible exploit vector for kernel code execution, and prepares
for adding a submit_io handler that btrfs needs.

Matthew Bobrowski 6fe7b99014 iomap: split size and error for iomap_dio_rw ->end_io
Modify the calling convention for the iomap_dio_rw ->end_io() callback.
Rather than passing either dio->error or dio->size as the 'size' argument,
instead pass both the dio->error and the dio->size value separately.

In the instance that an error occurred during a write, we currently cannot
determine whether any blocks have been allocated beyond the current EOF and
data has subsequently been written to these blocks within the ->end_io()
callback. As a result, we cannot judge whether we should take the truncate
failed write path. Having both dio->error and dio->size will allow us to
perform such checks within this callback.

Linus Torvalds cfb82e1df8 y2038: add inode timestamp clamping
This series from Deepa Dinamani adds a per-superblock minimum/maximum
timestamp limit for a file system, and clamps timestamps as they are
written, to avoid random behavior from integer overflow as well as having
different time stamps on disk vs in memory.

At mount time, a warning is now printed for any file system that can
represent current timestamps but not future timestamps more than 30
years into the future, similar to the arbitrary 30 year limit that was
 added to settimeofday().

This was picked as a compromise to warn users to migrate to other file
systems (e.g. ext4 instead of ext3) when they need the file system to
survive beyond 2038 (or similar limits in other file systems), but not
get in the way of normal usage.

  User visible changes:
   - tree checker, more sanity checks of:
       - ROOT_ITEM (key, size, generation, level, alignment, flags)
       - EXTENT_ITEM and METADATA_ITEM checks (key, size, offset,

       - factor flushing infrastructure and use it for different
contexts, allows to remove some special case handling
       - reduce metadata reservation when only updating inodes
       - reduce global block reserve minimum size (affects small
         filesystems)

Linus Torvalds f60c55a94e fs-verity for 5.4
Please consider pulling fs-verity for 5.4.

fs-verity is a filesystem feature that provides Merkle tree based
hashing (similar to dm-verity) for individual readonly files, mainly for
the purpose of efficient authenticity verification.

 This pull request includes:

 (a) The fs/verity/ support layer and documentation.

 (b) fs-verity support for ext4 and f2fs.

Compared to the original fs-verity patchset from last year, the UAPI to
enable fs-verity on a file has been greatly simplified. Lots of other
 things were cleaned up too.

 fs-verity is planned to be used by two different projects on Android;
most of the userspace code is in place already. Another userspace tool
("fsverity-utils"), and xfstests, are also available. e2fsprogs and
f2fs-tools already have fs-verity support. Other people have shown
 interest in using fs-verity too.

I've tested this on ext4 and f2fs with xfstests, both the existing tests
and the new fs-verity tests. This has also been in linux-next since
July 30 with no reported issues except a couple minor ones I found
myself and folded in fixes for.

 Ted and I will be co-maintaining fs-verity.

Linus Torvalds 734d1ed83e fscrypt update for 5.4
This is a large update to fs/crypto/ which includes:

 - Add ioctls that add/remove encryption keys to/from a filesystem-level
keyring. These fix user-reported issues where e.g. an encrypted home
directory can break NetworkManager, sshd, Docker, etc. because they
don't get access to the needed keyring. These ioctls also provide a
way to lock encrypted directories that doesn't use the vm.drop_caches
sysctl, so is faster, more reliable, and doesn't always need root.

 - Add a new encryption policy version ("v2") which switches to a more
standard, secure, and flexible key derivation function, and starts
verifying that the correct key was supplied before using it. The key
derivation improvement is needed for its own sake as well as for
ongoing feature work for which the current way is too inflexible.

Work is in progress to update both Android and the 'fscrypt' userspace
tool to use both these features. (Working patches are available and
just need to be reviewed+merged.) Chrome OS will likely use them too.

This has also been tested on ext4, f2fs, and ubifs with xfstests -- both
the existing encryption tests, and the new tests for this. This has
also been in linux-next since Aug 16 with no reported issues. I'm also
using an fscrypt v2-encrypted home directory on my personal desktop.

Stefan Hajnoczi a62a8ef9d9 virtio-fs: add virtiofs filesystem
Add a basic file system module for virtio-fs. This does not yet contain
shared data support between host and guest or metadata coherency speedups.
However it is already significantly faster than virtio-9p.

Design Overview
===============

With the goal of designing something with better performance and local file
system semantics, a bunch of ideas were proposed.

 - Use fuse protocol (instead of 9p) for communication between guest and
host. Guest kernel will be fuse client and a fuse server will run on
   host to serve the requests.

 - For data access inside guest, mmap portion of file in QEMU address space
and guest accesses this memory using dax. That way guest page cache is
bypassed and there is only one copy of data (on host). This will also
   enable mmap(MAP_SHARED) between guests.

 - For metadata coherency, there is a shared memory region which contains
version number associated with metadata and any guest changing metadata
updates version number and other guests refresh metadata on next access.
This is yet to be implemented.

How virtio-fs differs from existing approaches
==============================================

The unique idea behind virtio-fs is to take advantage of the co-location of
the virtual machine and hypervisor to avoid communication (vmexits).

DAX allows file contents to be accessed without communication with the
hypervisor. The shared memory region for metadata avoids communication in
the common case where metadata is unchanged.

By replacing expensive communication with cheaper shared memory accesses,
we expect to achieve better performance than approaches based on network
file system protocols. In addition, this also makes it easier to achieve
local file system semantics (coherency).

These techniques are not applicable to network file system protocols since
the communications channel is bypassed by taking advantage of shared memory
on a local machine. This is why we decided to build virtio-fs rather than
focus on 9P or NFS.

Caching Modes
=============

Like virtio-9p, different caching modes are supported which determine the
coherency level as well. The “cache=FOO” and “writeback” options control
the level of coherence between the guest and host filesystems.

 - cache=none
metadata, data and pathname lookup are not cached in guest. They are
always fetched from host and any changes are immediately pushed to host.

 - cache=always
metadata, data and pathname lookup are cached in guest and never expire.

 - cache=auto
metadata and pathname lookup cache expires after a configured amount of
time (default is 1 second). Data is cached while the file is open
   (close to open consistency).

 - writeback/no_writeback
These options control the writeback strategy. If writeback is disabled,
then normal writes will immediately be synchronized with the host fs.
If writeback is enabled, then writes may be cached in the guest until
the file is closed or an fsync(2) performed. This option has no effect
on mmap-ed writes or writes going through the DAX mechanism.

Linus Torvalds e6874fc294 Staging/IIO driver patches for 5.4-rc1
Here is the big staging/iio driver update for 5.4-rc1.

Lots of churn here, with a few driver/filesystems moving out of staging
 finally:
 	- erofs moved out of staging
 	- greybus core code moved out of staging

Along with that, a new filesytem has been added:
 	- extfat
to provide support for those devices requiring that filesystem (i.e.
transfer devices to/from windows systems or printers.)

Other than that, there a number of new IIO drivers, and lots and lots
and lots of staging driver cleanups and minor fixes as people continue
to dig into those for easy changes.

All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported

Linus Torvalds 1f7d290a72 Driver core patches for 5.4-rc1
Here is the big driver core update for 5.4-rc1.

There was a bit of a churn in here, with a number of core and OF
platform patches being added to the tree, and then after much discussion
and review and a day-long in-person meeting, they were decided to be
reverted and a new set of patches is currently being reviewed on the
 mailing list.

Other than that churn, there are two "persistent" branches in here that
other trees will be pulling in as well during the merge window. One
branch to add support for drivers to have the driver core automatically
add sysfs attribute files when a driver is bound to a device so that the
driver doesn't have to manually do it (and then clean it up, as it
 always gets it wrong).

There's another branch in here for generic lookup helpers for the driver
core that lots of busses are starting to use. That's the majority of
the non-driver-core changes in this patch series.

There's also some on-going debugfs file creation cleanup that has been
slowly happening over the past few releases, with the goal to hopefully
get that done sometime next year.

All of these have been in linux-next for a while now with no reported
 issues.

Jens Axboe 5262f56798 io_uring: IORING_OP_TIMEOUT support
There's been a few requests for functionality similar to io_getevents()
and epoll_wait(), where the user can specify a timeout for waiting on
events. I deliberately did not add support for this through the system
call initially to avoid overloading the args, but I can see that the use
cases for this are valid.

This adds support for IORING_OP_TIMEOUT. If a user wants to get woken
when waiting for events, simply submit one of these timeout commands
with your wait call (or before). This ensures that the application
sleeping on the CQ ring waiting for events will get woken. The timeout
command is passed in as a pointer to a struct timespec. Timeouts are
relative. The timeout command also includes a way to auto-cancel after
N events has passed.

Pull core timer updates from Thomas Gleixner:
 "Timers and timekeeping updates:

   - A large overhaul of the posix CPU timer code which is a preparation
for moving the CPU timer expiry out into task work so it can be
     properly accounted on the task/process.

An update to the bogus permission checks will come later during the
merge window as feedback was not complete before heading of for
     travel.

   - Switch the timerqueue code to use cached rbtrees and get rid of the
homebrewn caching of the leftmost node.

   - Consolidate hrtimer_init() + hrtimer_init_sleeper() calls into a
     single function

   - Implement the separation of hrtimers to be forced to expire in hard
interrupt context even when PREEMPT_RT is enabled and mark the
     affected timers accordingly.

   - Implement a mechanism for hrtimers and the timer wheel to protect
RT against priority inversion and live lock issues when a (hr)timer
which should be canceled is currently executing the callback.
Instead of infinitely spinning, the task which tries to cancel the
timer blocks on a per cpu base expiry lock which is held and
released by the (hr)timer expiry code.

   - Enable the Hyper-V TSC page based sched_clock for Hyper-V guests

Bob Peterson f0b444b349 gfs2: clear buf_in_tr when ending a transaction in sweep_bh_for_rgrps
In function sweep_bh_for_rgrps, which is a helper for punch_hole,
it uses variable buf_in_tr to keep track of when it needs to commit
pending block frees on a partial delete that overflows the
transaction created for the delete. The problem is that the
variable was initialized at the start of function sweep_bh_for_rgrps
but it was never cleared, even when starting a new transaction.

This patch reinitializes the variable when the transaction is
ended, so the next transaction starts out with it cleared.

Steve French 7dcc82c2df smb3: improve handling of share deleted (and share recreated)
When a share is deleted, returning EIO is confusing and no useful
information is logged. Improve the handling of this case by
at least logging a better error for this (and also mapping the error
differently to EREMCHG). See e.g. the new messages that would be logged:

[55243.639530] server share \\192.168.1.219\scratch deleted
[55243.642568] CIFS VFS: \\192.168.1.219\scratch BAD_NETWORK_NAME: \\192.168.1.219\scratch

In addition for the case where a share is deleted and then recreated
with the same name, have now fixed that so it works. This is sometimes
done for example, because the admin had to move a share to a different,
bigger local drive when a share is running low on space.

Steve French 563317ec30 smb3: enable offload of decryption of large reads via mount option
Disable offload of the decryption of encrypted read responses
by default (equivalent to setting this new mount option "esize=0").

Allow setting the minimum encrypted read response size that we
will choose to offload to a worker thread - it is now configurable
via on a new mount option "esize="

Depending on which encryption mechanism (GCM vs. CCM) and
the number of reads that will be issued in parallel and the
performance of the network and CPU on the client, it may make
sense to enable this since it can provide substantial benefit when
multiple large reads are in flight at the same time.

In that moment, we can observe:

[Before]
Try to move 5084219 blocks (BG: 384508)
  - data blocks : 4962373 (274483)
  - node blocks : 121846 (110025)
Skipped : atomic write 4534686 (10)

[After]
Try to move 5088973 blocks (BG: 384508)
  - data blocks : 4967127 (274483)
  - node blocks : 121846 (110025)
Skipped : atomic write 4539440 (10)

So, refactor atomic_write flow like this:
1. start_atomic_write
 - add inmem_list and set atomic_file

2. write()
 - register it in inmem_pages

3. commit_atomic_write
 - if no error, f2fs_drop_inmem_pages()
 - f2fs_commit_inmme_pages() failed
   : __revoked_inmem_pages() was done
 - f2fs_do_sync_file failed
   : abort_atomic_write later

4. abort_atomic_write
 - f2fs_drop_inmem_pages

5. f2fs_drop_inmem_pages
 - clear atomic_file
 - remove inmem_list

Based on this change, when GC fails to move block in atomic_file,
f2fs_drop_inmem_pages_all() can call f2fs_drop_inmem_pages().

Jeff Layton 321fe13c93 ceph: add buffered/direct exclusionary locking for reads and writes
xfstest generic/451 intermittently fails. The test does O_DIRECT writes
to a file, and then reads back the result using buffered I/O, while
running a separate set of tasks that are also doing buffered reads.

The client will invalidate the cache prior to a direct write, but it's
easy for one of the other readers' replies to race in and reinstantiate
the invalidated range with stale data.

To fix this, we must to serialize direct I/O writes and buffered reads.
We could just sprinkle in some shared locks on the i_rwsem for reads,
and increase the exclusive footprint on the write side, but that would
cause O_DIRECT writes to end up serialized vs. other direct requests.

Instead, borrow the scheme used by nfs.ko. Buffered writes take the
i_rwsem exclusively, but buffered reads take a shared lock, allowing
them to run in parallel.

O_DIRECT requests also take a shared lock, but we need for them to not
run in parallel with buffered reads. A flag on the ceph_inode_info is
used to indicate whether it's in direct or buffered I/O mode. When a
conflicting request is submitted, it will block until the inode can be
flipped to the necessary mode.

good, and does exactly what it says: avoids a lot of small disk requests
for the inode table read-ahead.

However, it turns out that it causes an entirely unrelated problem: the
getrandom() system call was introduced back in 2014 by commit
c6e9d6f388 ("random: introduce getrandom(2) system call"), and people
use it as a convenient source of good random numbers.

But part of the current semantics for getrandom() is that it waits for
the entropy pool to fill at least partially (unlike /dev/urandom). And
at least ArchLinux apparently has a systemd that uses getrandom() at
boot time, and the improvements in IO patterns means that existing
installations suddenly start hanging, waiting for entropy that will
never happen.

It seems to be an unlucky combination of not _quite_ enough entropy,
together with a particular systemd version and configuration. Lennart
says that the systemd-random-seed process (which is what does this early
access) is supposed to not block any other boot activity, but sadly that
doesn't actually seem to be the case (possibly due bogus dependencies on
cryptsetup for encrypted swapspace).

The correct fix is to fix getrandom() to not block when it's not
appropriate, but that fix is going to take a lot more discussion. Do we
just make it act like /dev/urandom by default, and add a new flag for
"wait for entropy"? Do we add a boot-time option? Or do we just limit
the amount of time it will wait for entropy?

So in the meantime, we do the revert to give us time to discuss the
eventual fix for the fundamental problem, at which point we can re-apply
the ext4 inode table access optimization.

The bug is a mess up of return values after adding proper error
handling and honestly the kind of bug that can cause sleeping
disorders until it's caught. My appologies to everybody who was
  affected.

  Summary of what could happen:

  1) either a hang when committing a transaction, if this happens
there's no risk of corruption, still the hang is very inconvenient
and can't be resolved without a reboot

  2) writeback for some btree nodes may never be started and we end up
committing a transaction without noticing that, this is really
serious and that will lead to the "parent transid verify failed"

Convert the ramfs, shmem, tmpfs, devtmpfs and rootfs filesystems to the new
internal mount API as the old one will be obsoleted and removed. This
allows greater flexibility in communication of mount parameters between
userspace, the VFS and the filesystem.

See Documentation/filesystems/mount_api.txt for more information.

Note that tmpfs is slightly tricky as it can contain embedded commas, so it
can't be trivially split up using strsep() to break on commas in
generic_parse_monolithic(). Instead, tmpfs has to supply its own generic
parser.

However, if tmpfs changes, then devtmpfs and rootfs, which are wrappers
around tmpfs or ramfs, must change too - and thus so must ramfs, so these
had to be converted also.

This helps avoid unnecessary workqueue switches when we don't need

application is doing multiple requests within the same page, we don't
want separate workers waiting on the same page to complete IO. It's much
faster to let the first worker bring in the page, then operate on that

Vivek Goyal 0cd1eb9a41 fuse: separate fuse device allocation and installation in fuse_conn
As of now fuse_dev_alloc() both allocates a fuse device and installs it in
fuse_conn list. fuse_dev_alloc() can fail if fuse_device allocation fails.

virtio-fs needs to initialize multiple fuse devices (one per virtio queue).
It initializes one fuse device as part of call to fuse_fill_super_common()
and rest of the devices are allocated and installed after that.

But, we can't afford to fail after calling fuse_fill_super_common() as we
don't have a way to undo all the actions done by fuse_fill_super_common().
So to avoid failures after the call to fuse_fill_super_common(),
pre-allocate all fuse devices early and install them into fuse connection
later.

This patch provides two separate helpers for fuse device allocation and

Stefan Hajnoczi ae3aad77f4 fuse: add fuse_iqueue_ops callbacks
The /dev/fuse device uses fiq->waitq and fasync to signal that requests are
available. These mechanisms do not apply to virtio-fs. This patch
introduces callbacks so alternative behavior can be used.

Note that queue_interrupt() changes along these lines:

  spin_lock(&fiq->waitq.lock);
  wake_up_locked(&fiq->waitq);
+ kill_fasync(&fiq->fasync, SIGIO, POLL_IN);
  spin_unlock(&fiq->waitq.lock);
- kill_fasync(&fiq->fasync, SIGIO, POLL_IN);

Since queue_request() and queue_forget() also call kill_fasync() inside
the spinlock this should be safe.

Miklos Szeredi f22f812d5c fuse: fix request limit
The size of struct fuse_req was reduced from 392B to 144B on a non-debug
config, thus the sanitize_global_limit() helper was setting a larger
default limit. This doesn't really reflect reduction in the memory used by
requests, since the fields removed from fuse_req were added to fuse_args
derived structs; e.g. sizeof(struct fuse_writepages_args) is 248B, thus
resulting in slightly more memory being used for writepage requests
overalll (due to using 256B slabs).

Make the calculatation ignore the size of fuse_req and use the old 392B
value.

Filipe Manana 18dfa7117a Btrfs: fix unwritten extent buffers and hangs on future writeback attempts
The lock_extent_buffer_io() returns 1 to the caller to tell it everything
went fine and the callers needs to start writeback for the extent buffer
(submit a bio, etc), 0 to tell the caller everything went fine but it does
not need to start writeback for the extent buffer, and a negative value if
some error happened.

When it's about to return 1 it tries to lock all pages, and if a try lock
on a page fails, and we didn't flush any existing bio in our "epd", it
calls flush_write_bio(epd) and overwrites the return value of 1 to 0 or
an error. The page might have been locked elsewhere, not with the goal
of starting writeback of the extent buffer, and even by some code other
than btrfs, like page migration for example, so it does not mean the
writeback of the extent buffer was already started by some other task,
so returning a 0 tells the caller (btree_write_cache_pages()) to not
start writeback for the extent buffer. Note that epd might currently have
either no bio, so flush_write_bio() returns 0 (success) or it might have
a bio for another extent buffer with a lower index (logical address).

Since we return 0 with the EXTENT_BUFFER_WRITEBACK bit set on the
extent buffer and writeback is never started for the extent buffer,
future attempts to writeback the extent buffer will hang forever waiting
on that bit to be cleared, since it can only be cleared after writeback
completes. Such hang is reported with a trace like the following:

[49887.347053] INFO: task btrfs-transacti:1752 blocked for more than 122 seconds.

So fix this by not overwriting the return value (ret) with the result
from flush_write_bio(). We also need to clear the EXTENT_BUFFER_WRITEBACK
bit in case flush_write_bio() returns an error, otherwise it will hang
any future attempts to writeback the extent buffer, and undo all work
done before (set back EXTENT_BUFFER_DIRTY, etc).

This is a regression introduced in the 5.2 kernel.

Filipe Manana 410f954cb1 Btrfs: fix assertion failure during fsync and use of stale transaction
Sometimes when fsync'ing a file we need to log that other inodes exist and
when we need to do that we acquire a reference on the inodes and then drop
that reference using iput() after logging them.

That generally is not a problem except if we end up doing the final iput()
(dropping the last reference) on the inode and that inode has a link count
of 0, which can happen in a very short time window if the logging path
gets a reference on the inode while it's being unlinked.

In that case we end up getting the eviction callback, btrfs_evict_inode(),
invoked through the iput() call chain which needs to drop all of the
inode's items from its subvolume btree, and in order to do that, it needs
to join a transaction at the helper function evict_refill_and_join().
However because the task previously started a transaction at the fsync
handler, btrfs_sync_file(), it has current->journal_info already pointing
to a transaction handle and therefore evict_refill_and_join() will get
that transaction handle from btrfs_join_transaction(). From this point on,
two different problems can happen:

1) evict_refill_and_join() will often change the transaction handle's
block reserve (->block_rsv) and set its ->bytes_reserved field to a
value greater than 0. If evict_refill_and_join() never commits the
transaction, the eviction handler ends up decreasing the reference
count (->use_count) of the transaction handle through the call to
btrfs_end_transaction(), and after that point we have a transaction
handle with a NULL ->block_rsv (which is the value prior to the
   transaction join from evict_refill_and_join()) and a ->bytes_reserved
value greater than 0. If after the eviction/iput completes the inode
logging path hits an error or it decides that it must fallback to a
transaction commit, the btrfs fsync handle, btrfs_sync_file(), gets a
non-zero value from btrfs_log_dentry_safe(), and because of that
non-zero value it tries to commit the transaction using a handle with
   a NULL ->block_rsv and a non-zero ->bytes_reserved value. This makes
the transaction commit hit an assertion failure at
btrfs_trans_release_metadata() because ->bytes_reserved is not zero but
the ->block_rsv is NULL. The produced stack trace for that is like the
   following:

   [192922.917158] assertion failed: !trans->bytes_reserved, file: fs/btrfs/transaction.c, line: 816

2) If evict_refill_and_join() decides to commit the transaction, it will
be able to do it, since the nested transaction join only increments the
transaction handle's ->use_count reference counter and it does not
prevent the transaction from getting committed. This means that after
eviction completes, the fsync logging path will be using a transaction
handle that refers to an already committed transaction. What happens
when using such a stale transaction can be unpredictable, we are at
least having a use-after-free on the transaction handle itself, since
the transaction commit will call kmem_cache_free() against the handle
regardless of its ->use_count value, or we can end up silently losing
all the updates to the log tree after that iput() in the logging path,
or using a transaction handle that in the meanwhile was allocated to
another task for a new transaction, etc, pretty much unpredictable
   what can happen.

In order to fix both of them, instead of using iput() during logging, use
btrfs_add_delayed_iput(), so that the logging path of fsync never drops
the last reference on an inode, that step is offloaded to a safe context
(usually the cleaner kthread).

The assertion failure issue was sporadically triggered by the test case
generic/475 from fstests, which loads the dm error target while fsstress
is running, which lead to fsync failing while logging inodes with -EIO
errors and then trying later to commit the transaction, triggering the
assertion failure.

Mark Salyzyn 5c2e9f346b ovl: filter of trusted xattr results in audit
When filtering xattr list for reading, presence of trusted xattr
results in a security audit log. However, if there is other content
no errno will be set, and if there isn't, the errno will be -ENODATA
and not -EPERM as is usually associated with a lack of capability.
The check does not block the request to list the xattrs present.

Switch to ns_capable_noaudit to reflect a more appropriate check.

Al Viro 351e5d869e configfs: fix a deadlock in configfs_symlink()
Configfs abuses symlink(2). Unlike the normal filesystems, it
wants the target resolved at symlink(2) time, like link(2) would've
done. The problem is that ->symlink() is called with the parent
directory locked exclusive, so resolving the target inside the
->symlink() is easily deadlocked.

Short of really ugly games in sys_symlink() itself, all we can
do is to unlock the parent before resolving the target and
relock it after. However, that invalidates the checks done
by the caller of ->symlink(), so we have to
	* check that dentry is still where it used to be
(it couldn't have been moved, but it could've been unhashed)
	* recheck that it's still negative (somebody else
might've successfully created a symlink with the same name
while we were looking the target up)
	* recheck the permissions on the parent directory.

Jens Axboe 54a91f3bb9 io_uring: limit parallelism of buffered writes
All the popular filesystems need to grab the inode lock for buffered
writes. With io_uring punting buffered writes to async context, we
observe a lot of contention with all workers hamming this mutex.

For buffered writes, we generally don't need a lot of parallelism on
the submission side, as the flushing will take care of that for us.
Hence we don't need a deep queue on the write side, as long as we
can safely punt from the original submission context.

Add a workqueue with a limit of 2 that we can use for buffered writes.
This greatly improves the performance and efficiency of higher queue
depth buffered async writes with io_uring.
