Alexei Starovoitov bd4cf0ed33 net: filter: rework/optimize internal BPF interpreter's instruction set
This patch replaces/reworks the kernel-internal BPF interpreter with
an optimized BPF instruction set format that is modelled closer to
mimic native instruction sets and is designed to be JITed with one to
one mapping. Thus, the new interpreter is noticeably faster than the
current implementation of sk_run_filter(); mainly for two reasons:

1. Fall-through jumps:

BPF jump instructions are forced to go either 'true' or 'false'
branch which causes branch-miss penalty. The new BPF jump
instructions have only one branch and fall-through otherwise,
which fits the CPU branch predictor logic better. `perf stat`
shows drastic difference for branch-misses between the old and
  new code.

2. Jump-threaded implementation of interpreter vs switch
   statement:

Instead of single table-jump at the top of 'switch' statement,
gcc will now generate multiple table-jump instructions, which
  helps CPU branch predictor logic.

Note that the verification of filters is still being done through
sk_chk_filter() in classical BPF format, so filters from user- or
kernel space are verified in the same way as we do now, and same
restrictions/constraints hold as well.

We reuse current BPF JIT compilers in a way that this upgrade would
even be fine as is, but nevertheless allows for a successive upgrade
of BPF JIT compilers to the new format.

The internal instruction set migration is being done after the
probing for JIT compilation, so in case JIT compilers are able to
create a native opcode image, we're going to use that, and in all
other cases we're doing a follow-up migration of the BPF program's
instruction set, so that it can be transparently run in the new
interpreter.

In short, the *internal* format extends BPF in the following way (more
details can be taken from the appended documentation):

  - Number of registers increase from 2 to 10
  - Register width increases from 32-bit to 64-bit
  - Conditional jt/jf targets replaced with jt/fall-through
  - Adds signed > and >= insns
  - 16 4-byte stack slots for register spill-fill replaced
with up to 512 bytes of multi-use stack space
  - Introduction of bpf_call insn and register passing convention
for zero overhead calls from/to other kernel functions
  - Adds arithmetic right shift and endianness conversion insns
  - Adds atomic_add insn
  - Old tax/txa insns are replaced with 'mov dst, src' insn

Performance of two BPF filters generated by libpcap resp. bpf_asm
was measured on x86_64, i386 and arm32 (other libpcap programs
have similar performance differences):

fprog #1 is taken from Documentation/networking/filter.txt:
tcpdump -i eth0 port 22 -dd

fprog #2 is taken from 'man tcpdump':
tcpdump -i eth0 'tcp port 22 and (((ip[2:2] - ((ip[0]&0xf)<<2)) -
   ((tcp[12]&0xf0)>>2)) != 0)' -dd

Raw performance data from BPF micro-benchmark: SK_RUN_FILTER on the
same SKB (cache-hit) or 10k SKBs (cache-miss); time in ns per call,
smaller is better:

Thus, without changing any userland BPF filters, applications on
top of AF_PACKET (or other families) such as libpcap/tcpdump, cls_bpf
classifier, netfilter's xt_bpf, team driver's load-balancing mode,
and many more will have better interpreter filtering performance.

While we are replacing the internal BPF interpreter, we also need
to convert seccomp BPF in the same step to make use of the new
internal structure since it makes use of lower-level API details
without being further decoupled through higher-level calls like
sk_unattached_filter_{create,destroy}(), for example.

Just as for normal socket filtering, also seccomp BPF experiences
a time-to-verdict speedup:

05-sim-long_jumps.c of libseccomp was used as micro-benchmark:

  seccomp_rule_add_exact(ctx,...
  seccomp_rule_add_exact(ctx,...

  rc = seccomp_load(ctx);

  for (i = 0; i < 10000000; i++)
     syscall(199, 100);

'short filter' has 2 rules
'large filter' has 200 rules

'short filter' performance is slightly better on x86_64/i386/arm32
'large filter' is much faster on x86_64 and i386 and shows no
               difference on arm32

BPF filters generated by seccomp are very branchy, so the new
internal BPF performance is better than the old one. Performance
gains will be even higher when BPF JIT is committed for the
new structure, which is planned in future work (as successive
JIT migrations).

BPF has also been stress-tested with trinity's BPF fuzzer.

Daniel Borkmann 164d8c6665 net: ptp: do not reimplement PTP/BPF classifier
There are currently pch_gbe, cpts, and ixp4xx_eth drivers that open-code
and reimplement a BPF classifier for the PTP protocol. Since all of them
effectively do the very same thing and load the very same PTP/BPF filter,
we can just consolidate that code by introducing ptp_classify_raw() in
the time-stamping core framework which can be used in drivers.

As drivers get initialized after bootstrapping the core networking
subsystem, they can make use of ptp_insns wrapped through
ptp_classify_raw(), which allows to simplify and remove PTP classifier
setup code in drivers.

Daniel Borkmann e62d2df084 net: ptp: use sk_unattached_filter_create() for BPF
This patch migrates an open-coded sk_run_filter() implementation with
proper use of the BPF API, that is, sk_unattached_filter_create(). This
migration is needed, as we will be internally transforming the filter
to a different representation, and therefore needs to be decoupled.

It is okay to do so as skb_timestamping_init() is called during
initialization of the network stack in core initcall via sock_init().
This would effectively also allow for PTP filters to be jit compiled if
bpf_jit_enable is set.

For better readability, there are also some newlines introduced, also
ptp_classify.h is only in kernel space.

Daniel Borkmann fbc907f0b1 net: filter: move filter accounting to filter core
This patch basically does two things, i) removes the extern keyword
from the include/linux/filter.h file to be more consistent with the
rest of Joe's changes, and ii) moves filter accounting into the filter
core framework.

Filter accounting mainly done through sk_filter_{un,}charge() take
care of the case when sockets are being cloned through sk_clone_lock()
so that removal of the filter on one socket won't result in eviction
as it's still referenced by the other.

These functions actually belong to net/core/filter.c and not
include/net/sock.h as we want to keep all that in a central place.
It's also not in fast-path so uninlining them is fine and even allows
us to get rd of sk_filter_release_rcu()'s EXPORT_SYMBOL and a forward
declaration.

Daniel Borkmann a3ea269b8b net: filter: keep original BPF program around
In order to open up the possibility to internally transform a BPF program
into an alternative and possibly non-trivial reversible representation, we
need to keep the original BPF program around, so that it can be passed back
to user space w/o the need of a complex decoder.

The reason for that use case resides in commit a8fc927780 ("sk-filter:
Add ability to get socket filter program (v2)"), that is, the ability
to retrieve the currently attached BPF filter from a given socket used
mainly by the checkpoint-restore project, for example.

Therefore, we add two helpers sk_{store,release}_orig_filter for taking
care of that. In the sk_unattached_filter_create() case, there's no such
possibility/requirement to retrieve a loaded BPF program. Therefore, we
can spare us the work in that case.

This approach will simplify and slightly speed up both, sk_get_filter()
and sock_diag_put_filterinfo() handlers as we won't need to successively
decode filters anymore through sk_decode_filter(). As we still need
sk_decode_filter() later on, we're keeping it around.

Daniel Borkmann f8bbbfc3b9 net: filter: add jited flag to indicate jit compiled filters
This patch adds a jited flag into sk_filter struct in order to indicate
whether a filter is currently jited or not. The size of sk_filter is
not being expanded as the 32 bit 'len' member allows upper bits to be
reused since a filter can currently only grow as large as BPF_MAXINSNS.

Therefore, there's enough room also for other in future needed flags to
reuse 'len' field if necessary. The jited flag also allows for having
alternative interpreter functions running as currently, we can only
detect jit compiled filters by testing fp->bpf_func to not equal the
address of sk_run_filter().

Vlad Yasevich 53d6471cef net: Account for all vlan headers in skb_mac_gso_segment
skb_network_protocol() already accounts for multiple vlan
headers that may be present in the skb. However, skb_mac_gso_segment()
doesn't know anything about it and assumes that skb->mac_len
is set correctly to skip all mac headers. That may not
always be the case. If we are simply forwarding the packet (via
bridge or macvtap), all vlan headers may not be accounted for.

A simple solution is to allow skb_network_protocol to return
the vlan depth it has calculated. This way skb_mac_gso_segment
will correctly skip all mac headers.

This patch replaces rcu_assign_pointer(x, NULL) with RCU_INIT_POINTER(x, NULL)

The rcu_assign_pointer() ensures that the initialization of a structure
is carried out before storing a pointer to that structure.
And in the case of the NULL pointer, there is no structure to initialize.
So, rcu_assign_pointer(p, NULL) can be safely converted to RCU_INIT_POINTER(p, NULL)

Commit 3ff661c38c ("net: rtnetlink notify events for FDB NTF_SELF adds and

But this function was used only for dump and thus was always setting the

Libraries like libnl will wait forever for NLMSG_DONE.

Srivatsa S. Bhat e30a293e8a net/core/flow.c: Fix CPU hotplug callback registration
Subsystems that want to register CPU hotplug callbacks, as well as perform
initialization for the CPUs that are already online, often do it as shown
below:

	get_online_cpus();

	for_each_online_cpu(cpu)
		init_cpu(cpu);

	register_cpu_notifier(&foobar_cpu_notifier);

	put_online_cpus();

This is wrong, since it is prone to ABBA deadlocks involving the
cpu_add_remove_lock and the cpu_hotplug.lock (when running concurrently
with CPU hotplug operations).

Instead, the correct and race-free way of performing the callback
registration is:

	cpu_notifier_register_begin();

	for_each_online_cpu(cpu)
		init_cpu(cpu);

/* Note the use of the double underscored version of the API */
	__register_cpu_notifier(&foobar_cpu_notifier);

	cpu_notifier_register_done();

Fix the code in net/core/flow.c by using this latter form of callback
registration.

Eric W. Biederman 9c62a68d13 netpoll: Remove dead packet receive code (CONFIG_NETPOLL_TRAP)
The netpoll packet receive code only becomes active if the netpoll
rx_skb_hook is implemented, and there is not a single implementation
of the netpoll rx_skb_hook in the kernel.

All of the out of tree implementations I have found all call
netpoll_poll which was removed from the kernel in 2011, so this
change should not add any additional breakage.

There are problems with the netpoll packet receive code. __netpoll_rx
does not call dev_kfree_skb_irq or dev_kfree_skb_any in hard irq
context. netpoll_neigh_reply leaks every skb it receives. Reception
of packets does not work successfully on stacked devices (aka bonding,
team, bridge, and vlans).

Given that the netpoll packet receive code is buggy, there are no
out of tree users that will be merged soon, and the code has
not been used for in tree for a decade let's just remove it.

Reverting this commit can server as a starting point for anyone
who wants to resurrect netpoll packet reception support.

Eric W. Biederman b6bacd550c netpoll: Don't drop all received packets.
Change the strategy of netpoll from dropping all packets received
during netpoll_poll_dev to calling napi poll with a budget of 0
(to avoid processing drivers rx queue), and to ignore packets received
with netif_rx (those will safely be placed on the backlog queue).

All of the netpoll supporting drivers have been reviewed to ensure
either thay use netif_rx or that a budget of 0 is supported by their
napi poll routine and that a budget of 0 will not process the drivers
rx queues.

Not dropping packets makes NETPOLL_RX_DROP unnecesary so it is removed.

Bug occurs because __tcp_checksum_complete_user() enables BH, assuming
it is running from softirq context.

Lars trace involved a NIC without RX checksum support but other points

Problem is triggered by a timer, that found socket being owned by user.

tcp_release_cb() should call tcp_write_timer_handler() or

Mathias Krause 20b0c718c3 pktgen: fix out-of-bounds access in pgctrl_write()
If a privileged user writes an empty string to /proc/net/pktgen/pgctrl
the code for stripping the (then non-existent) '\n' actually writes the
zero byte at index -1 of data[]. The then still uninitialized array will
very likely fail the command matching tests and the pr_warning() at the
end will therefore leak stack bytes to the kernel log.

Fix those issues by simply ensuring we're passed a non-empty string as
the user API apparently expects a trailing '\n' for all commands.

6) Remove caching of xfrm_policy_sk_bundles. The cached socket policy bundles

Frederic Weisbecker c46fff2a3b smp: Rename __smp_call_function_single() to smp_call_function_single_async()
The name __smp_call_function_single() doesn't tell much about the
properties of this function, especially when compared to
smp_call_function_single().

The comments above the implementation are also misleading. The main
point of this function is actually not to be able to embed the csd
in an object. This is actually a requirement that result from the
purpose of this function which is to raise an IPI asynchronously.

As such it can be called with interrupts disabled. And this feature
comes at the cost of the caller who then needs to serialize the
IPIs on this csd.

Lets rename the function and enhance the comments so that they reflect
these properties.

Frederic Weisbecker fce8ad1568 smp: Remove wait argument from __smp_call_function_single()
The main point of calling __smp_call_function_single() is to send
an IPI in a pure asynchronous way. By embedding a csd in an object,
a caller can send the IPI without waiting for a previous one to complete
as is required by smp_call_function_single() for example. As such,
sending this kind of IPI can be safe even when irqs are disabled.

This flexibility comes at the expense of the caller who then needs to
synchronize the csd lifecycle by himself and make sure that IPIs on a
single csd are serialized.

This is how __smp_call_function_single() works when wait = 0 and this
usecase is relevant.

Now there don't seem to be any usecase with wait = 1 that can't be
covered by smp_call_function_single() instead, which is safer. Lets look
at the two possible scenario:

1) The user calls __smp_call_function_single(wait = 1) on a csd embedded
in an object. It looks like a nice and convenient pattern at the first
sight because we can then retrieve the object from the IPI handler easily.

But actually it is a waste of memory space in the object since the csd
can be allocated from the stack by smp_call_function_single(wait = 1)
and the object can be passed an the IPI argument.

Besides that, embedding the csd in an object is more error prone
because the caller must take care of the serialization of the IPIs
   for this csd.

2) The user calls __smp_call_function_single(wait = 1) on a csd that
is allocated on the stack. It's ok but smp_call_function_single()
can do it as well and it already takes care of the allocation on the
stack. Again it's more simple and less error prone.

Therefore, using the underscore prepend API version with wait = 1
is a bad pattern and a sign that the caller can do safer and more
simple.

There was a single user of that which has just been converted.
So lets remove this option to discourage further users.

Add a new argument for ndo_select_queue() callback that passes a

fallback handler is currently __netdev_pick_tx() as most drivers
invoke this function within their customized implementation in
case for skbs that don't need any special handling. This fallback
handler can then be replaced on other call-sites with different
queue selection methods (e.g. in packet sockets, pktgen etc).

This also has the nice side-effect that __netdev_pick_tx() is
then only invoked from netdev_pick_tx() and export of that
function to modules can be undone.

Fan Du ca925cf153 flowcache: Make flow cache name space aware
Inserting a entry into flowcache, or flushing flowcache should be based

Since flowcache is tightly coupled with IPsec, so it would be easier to

Tejun Heo 073219e995 cgroup: clean up cgroup_subsys names and initialization
cgroup_subsys is a bit messier than it needs to be.

* The name of a subsys can be different from its internal identifier
defined in cgroup_subsys.h. Most subsystems use the matching name
but three - cpu, memory and perf_event - use different ones.

* cgroup_subsys_id enums are postfixed with _subsys_id and each
cgroup_subsys is postfixed with _subsys. cgroup.h is widely
included throughout various subsystems, it doesn't and shouldn't
have claim on such generic names which don't have any qualifier
indicating that they belong to cgroup.

* cgroup_subsys->subsys_id should always equal the matching
cgroup_subsys_id enum; however, we require each controller to
initialize it and then BUG if they don't match, which is a bit
  silly.

This patch cleans up cgroup_subsys names and initialization by doing
the followings.

* cgroup_subsys_id enums are now postfixed with _cgrp_id, and each
  cgroup_subsys with _cgrp_subsys.

* With the above, renaming subsys identifiers to match the userland
visible names doesn't cause any naming conflicts. All non-matching
identifiers are renamed to match the official names.

  cpu_cgroup -> cpu
  mem_cgroup -> memory
  perf -> perf_event

* controllers no longer need to initialize ->subsys_id and ->name.
They're generated in cgroup core and set automatically during boot.

* Redundant cgroup_subsys declarations removed.

* While updating BUG_ON()s in cgroup_init_early(), convert them to
WARN()s. BUGging that early during boot is stupid - the kernel
can't print anything, even through serial console and the trap
handler doesn't even link stack frame properly for back-tracing.

This patch doesn't introduce any behavior changes.

With module supported dropped from net_prio, no controller is using
cgroup module support. None of actual resource controllers can be
built as a module and we aren't gonna add new controllers which don't
control resources. This patch drops module support from cgroup.

* cgroup_[un]load_subsys() and cgroup_subsys->module removed.

* As there's no point in distinguishing IS_BUILTIN() and IS_MODULE(),
  cgroup_subsys.h now uses IS_ENABLED() directly.

* enum cgroup_subsys_id now exactly matches the list of enabled
  controllers as ordered in cgroup_subsys.h.

* cgroup_subsys[] is now a contiguously occupied array. Size
specification is no longer necessary and dropped.

* for_each_builtin_subsys() is removed and for_each_subsys() is

* module ref handling is removed from rebind_subsystems().

Tejun Heo af6363374c cgroup: make CONFIG_CGROUP_NET_PRIO bool and drop unnecessary init_netclassid_cgroup()
net_prio is the only cgroup which is allowed to be built as a module.
The savings from allowing one controller to be built as a module are
tiny especially given that cgroup module support itself adds quite a
bit of complexity.

Given that none of other controllers has much chance of being made a
module and that we're unlikely to add new modular controllers, the
added complexity is simply not justifiable.

As a first step to drop cgroup module support, this patch changes the
config option to bool from tristate and drops module related code from
it.

Also, while an earlier commit fe1217c4f3 ("net: net_cls: move
cgroupfs classid handling into core") dropped module support from
net_cls cgroup, it retained a call to cgroup_load_subsys(), which is
noop for built-in controllers. Drop it along with
init_netclassid_cgroup().

v2: Removed modular version of task_netprioidx() in

Vlad Yasevich 6ef7b8a23a net: Correctly sync addresses from multiple sources to single device
When we have multiple devices attempting to sync the same address
to a single destination, each device should be permitted to sync
it once. To accomplish this, pass the 'sync_cnt' of the source
address when adding the addresss to the lower device. 'sync_cnt'
tracks how many time a given address has been succefully synced.
This way, we know that if the 'sync_cnt' passed in is 0, we should
sync this address.

Also, turn 'synced' member back into the counter as was originally
done in
   commit 4543fbefe6.
net: count hw_addr syncs so that unsync works properly.
It tracks how many time a given address has been added via a
'sync' operation. For every successfull 'sync' the counter is
incremented, and for ever 'unsync', the counter is decremented.
This makes sure that the address will be properly removed from
the the lower device when all the upper devices have removed it.

viresh kumar f618002b0b net/neighbour: queue work on power efficient wq
Workqueue used in neighbour layer have no real dependency of scheduling these on

On a idle system, it is observed that an idle cpu wakes up many times just to

Or Gerlitz b582ef0990 net: Add GRO support for UDP encapsulating protocols
Add GRO handlers for protocols that do UDP encapsulation, with the intent of
being able to coalesce packets which encapsulate packets belonging to
the same TCP session.

For GRO purposes, the destination UDP port takes the role of the ether type
field in the ethernet header or the next protocol in the IP header.

The UDP GRO handler will only attempt to coalesce packets whose destination
port is registered to have gro handler.

Use a mark on the skb GRO CB data to disallow (flush) running the udp gro receive
code twice on a packet. This solves the problem of udp encapsulated packets whose
inner VM packet is udp and happen to carry a port which has registered offloads.

Michal Sekletar ea02f9411d net: introduce SO_BPF_EXTENSIONS
For user space packet capturing libraries such as libpcap, there's
currently only one way to check which BPF extensions are supported
by the kernel, that is, commit aa1113d9f8 ("net: filter: return
-EINVAL if BPF_S_ANC* operation is not supported"). For querying all
extensions at once this might be rather inconvenient.

Therefore, this patch introduces a new option which can be used as
an argument for getsockopt(), and allows one to obtain information
about which BPF extensions are supported by the current kernel.

As David Miller suggests, we do not need to define any bits right
now and status quo can just return 0 in order to state that this
versions supports SKF_AD_PROTOCOL up to SKF_AD_PAY_OFFSET. Later
additions to BPF extensions need to add their bits to the
bpf_tell_extensions() function, as documented in the comment.

permit a device-specific attribute group. Initial use case for this
support will be to allow the virtio-net device to export per-receive
queue mergeable receive buffer size.

Michael Dalton 097b4f19e5 net: allow > 0 order atomic page alloc in skb_page_frag_refill
skb_page_frag_refill currently permits only order-0 page allocs
unless GFP_WAIT is used. Change skb_page_frag_refill to attempt
higher-order page allocations whether or not GFP_WAIT is used. If
memory cannot be allocated, the allocator will fall back to
successively smaller page allocs (down to order-0 page allocs).

This change brings skb_page_frag_refill in line with the existing
page allocation strategy employed by netdev_alloc_frag, which attempts
higher-order page allocations whether or not GFP_WAIT is set, falling
back to successively lower-order page allocations on failure. Part
of migration of virtio-net to per-receive queue page frag allocators.

Veaceslav Falico 1d486bfb66 net: add NETDEV_PRECHANGEMTU to notify before mtu change happens
Currently, if a device changes its mtu, first the change happens (invloving
all the side effects), and after that the NETDEV_CHANGEMTU is sent so that
other devices can catch up with the new mtu. However, if they return
NOTIFY_BAD, then the change is reverted and error returned.

This is a really long and costy operation (sometimes). To fix this, add
NETDEV_PRECHANGEMTU notification which is called prior to any change
actually happening, and if any callee returns NOTIFY_BAD - the change is
aborted. This way we're skipping all the playing with apply/revert the mtu.

When initializing a gro_list for a packet, first check the rxhash of
the incoming skb against that of the skb's in the list. This should be
a very strong inidicator of whether the flow is going to be matched,
and potentially allows a lot of other checks to be short circuited.
Use skb_hash_raw so that we don't force the hash to be calculated.

Eric Dumazet 600adc18eb net: gro: change GRO overflow strategy
GRO layer has a limit of 8 flows being held in GRO list,
for performance reason.

When a packet comes for a flow not yet in the list,
and list is full, we immediately give it to upper
stacks, lowering aggregation performance.

With TSO auto sizing and FQ packet scheduler, this situation
happens more often.

This patch changes strategy to simply evict the oldest flow of
the list. This works better because of the nature of packet
trains for which GRO is efficient. This also has the effect
of lowering the GRO latency if many flows are competing.

Tested :

Used a 40Gbps NIC, with 4 RX queues, and 200 concurrent TCP_STREAM
netperf.

Before patch, aggregate rate is 11Gbps (while a single flow can reach
30Gbps)

After patch, line rate is reached.

Jason Wang f663dd9aaf net: core: explicitly select a txq before doing l2 forwarding
Currently, the tx queue were selected implicitly in ndo_dfwd_start_xmit(). The
will cause several issues:

- NETIF_F_LLTX were removed for macvlan, so txq lock were done for macvlan
instead of lower device which misses the necessary txq synchronization for
lower device such as txq stopping or frozen required by dev watchdog or
  control path.
- dev_hard_start_xmit() was called with NULL txq which bypasses the net device
  watchdog.
- dev_hard_start_xmit() does not check txq everywhere which will lead a crash
when tso is disabled for lower device.

Fix this by explicitly introducing a new param for .ndo_select_queue() for just
selecting queues in the case of l2 forwarding offload. netdev_pick_tx() was also
extended to accept this parameter and dev_queue_xmit_accel() was used to do l2
forwarding transmission.

With this fixes, NETIF_F_LLTX could be preserved for macvlan and there's no need
to check txq against NULL in dev_hard_start_xmit(). Also there's no need to keep
a dedicated ndo_dfwd_start_xmit() and we can just reuse the code of
dev_queue_xmit() to do the transmission.

In the future, it was also required for macvtap l2 forwarding support since it
provides a necessary synchronization method.

Jerry Chu bf5a755f5e net-gre-gro: Add GRE support to the GRO stack
This patch built on top of Commit 299603e837
("net-gro: Prepare GRO stack for the upcoming tunneling support") to add
the support of the standard GRE (RFC1701/RFC2784/RFC2890) to the GRO
stack. It also serves as an example for supporting other encapsulation
protocols in the GRO stack in the future.

The patch supports version 0 and all the flags (key, csum, seq#) but
will flush any pkt with the S (seq#) flag. This is because the S flag
is not support by GSO, and a GRO pkt may end up in the forwarding path,
thus requiring GSO support to break it up correctly.

Currently the "packet_offload" structure only contains L3 (ETH_P_IP/
ETH_P_IPV6) GRO offload support so the encapped pkts are limited to
IP pkts (i.e., w/o L2 hdr). But support for other protocol type can
be easily added, so is the support for GRE variations like NVGRE.

The patch also support csum offload. Specifically if the csum flag is on
and the h/w is capable of checksumming the payload (CHECKSUM_COMPLETE),
the code will take advantage of the csum computed by the h/w when
validating the GRE csum.

Note that commit 60769a5dcd "ipv4: gre:
add GRO capability" already introduces GRO capability to IPv4 GRE
tunnels, using the gro_cells infrastructure. But GRO is done after
GRE hdr has been removed (i.e., decapped). The following patch applies
GRO when pkts first come in (before hitting the GRE tunnel code). There
is some performance advantage for applying GRO as early as possible.
Also this approach is transparent to other subsystem like Open vSwitch
where GRE decap is handled outside of the IP stack hence making it
harder for the gro_cells stuff to apply. On the other hand, some NICs
are still not capable of hashing on the inner hdr of a GRE pkt (RSS).
In that case the GRO processing of pkts from the same remote host will
all happen on the same CPU and the performance may be suboptimal.

I'm including some rough preliminary performance numbers below. Note
that the performance will be highly dependent on traffic load, mix as
usual. Moreover it also depends on NIC offload features hence the
following is by no means a comprehesive study. Local testing and tuning
will be needed to decide the best setting.

All tests spawned 50 copies of netperf TCP_STREAM and ran for 30 secs.
(super_netperf 50 -H 192.168.1.18 -l 30)

An IP GRE tunnel with only the key flag on (e.g., ip tunnel add gre1
mode gre local 10.246.17.18 remote 10.246.17.17 ttl 255 key 123)
is configured.

The GRO support for pkts AFTER decap are controlled through the device
feature of the GRE device (e.g., ethtool -K gre1 gro on/off).

1.1 ethtool -K gre1 gro off; ethtool -K eth0 gro off
thruput: 9.16Gbps
CPU utilization: 19%

1.2 ethtool -K gre1 gro on; ethtool -K eth0 gro off

CPU utilization: 12-13%

1.4 ethtool -K gre1 gro on; ethtool -K eth0 gro on
thruput: 9.26Gbps

The following tests were performed on a different NIC that is capable of
csum offload. I.e., the h/w is capable of computing IP payload csum
(CHECKSUM_COMPLETE).

2.1 ethtool -K gre1 gro on (hence will use gro_cells)

2.1.1 ethtool -K eth0 gro off; csum offload disabled

[GIT net-next] Open vSwitch

Open vSwitch changes for net-next/3.14. Highlights are:
 * Performance improvements in the mechanism to get packets to userspace
using memory mapped netlink and skb zero copy where appropriate.
 * Per-cpu flow stats in situations where flows are likely to be shared
across CPUs. Standard flow stats are used in other situations to save
   memory and allocation time.
 * A handful of code cleanups and rationalization.

netfilter/IPVS updates for net-next

The following patchset contains Netfilter updates for your net-next tree,
they are:

* Add full port randomization support. Some crazy researchers found a way
to reconstruct the secure ephemeral ports that are allocated in random mode
by sending off-path bursts of UDP packets to overrun the socket buffer of
the DNS resolver to trigger retransmissions, then if the timing for the
DNS resolution done by a client is larger than usual, then they conclude
that the port that received the burst of UDP packets is the one that was
opened. It seems a bit aggressive method to me but it seems to work for
them. As a result, Daniel Borkmann and Hannes Frederic Sowa came up with a
new NAT mode to fully randomize ports using prandom.

* Add a new classifier to x_tables based on the socket net_cls set via
cgroups. These includes two patches to prepare the field as requested by
Zefan Li. Also from Daniel Borkmann.

* Use prandom instead of get_random_bytes in several locations of the
  netfilter code, from Florian Westphal.

* Allow to use the CTA_MARK_MASK in ctnetlink when mangling the conntrack
  mark, also from Florian Westphal.

* Fix compilation warning due to unused variable in IPVS, from Geert
  Uytterhoeven.

* Add support for UID/GID via nfnetlink_queue, from Valentina Giusti.

* Add IPComp extension to x_tables, from Fan Du.

Daniel Borkmann 86f8515f97 net: netprio: rename config to be more consistent with cgroup configs
While we're at it and introduced CGROUP_NET_CLASSID, lets also make
NETPRIO_CGROUP more consistent with the rest of cgroups and rename it
into CONFIG_CGROUP_NET_PRIO so that for networking, we now have
CONFIG_CGROUP_NET_{PRIO,CLASSID}. This not only makes the CONFIG
option consistent among networking cgroups, but also among cgroups
CONFIG conventions in general as the vast majority has a prefix of
CONFIG_CGROUP_<SUBSYS>.

Daniel Borkmann fe1217c4f3 net: net_cls: move cgroupfs classid handling into core
Zefan Li requested [1] to perform the following cleanup/refactoring:

- Split cgroupfs classid handling into net core to better express a
  possible more generic use.

- Disable module support for cgroupfs bits as the majority of other
cgroupfs subsystems do not have that, and seems to be not wished
from cgroup side. Zefan probably might want to follow-up for netprio
  later on.

- By this, code can be further reduced which previously took care of
functionality built when compiled as module.

cgroupfs bits are being placed under net/core/netclassid_cgroup.c, so
that we are consistent with {netclassid,netprio}_cgroup naming that is
under net/core/ as suggested by Zefan.

No change in functionality, but only code refactoring that is being
done here.

User could set specific SPI value to arm pktgen flow with IPsec
transformation, instead of looking up SA by sadr/daddr. The reaseon
to do so is because current state lookup scheme is both slow and, most
important of all, in fact pktgen doesn't need to match any SA state
addresses information, all it needs is the SA transfromation shell to
do the encapuslation.

And this option also provide user an alternative to using pktgen

David S. Miller 2205369a31 vlan: Fix header ops passthru when doing TX VLAN offload.
When the vlan code detects that the real device can do TX VLAN offloads
in hardware, it tries to arrange for the real device's header_ops to
be invoked directly.

But it does so illegally, by simply hooking the real device's
header_ops up to the VLAN device.

This doesn't work because we will end up invoking a set of header_ops
routines which expect a device type which matches the real device, but
will see a VLAN device instead.

Fix this by providing a pass-thru set of header_ops which will arrange
to pass the proper real device instead.

To facilitate this add a dev_rebuild_header(). There are
implementations which provide a ->cache and ->create but not a
->rebuild (f.e. PLIP). So we need a helper function just like
dev_hard_header() to avoid crashes.

Use this helper in the one existing place where the
header_ops->rebuild was being invoked, the neighbour code.

With lots of help from Florian Westphal.
