Jean Delvare 58e6e78119 hwmon: (w83627ehf) Be more careful when changing VID input level
The VID input level change has been reported to cause trouble. Be more
careful in this respect:
* Only change the level on the W83627EHF/EHG. The W83627DHG is more
  complex in this respect.
* Don't change the level if the VID pins are in output mode.
* Only set the level to TTL if VRM 9.x is used.

Rafael J. Wysocki 561d9a9694 HWMON: coretemp, suspend fix
It's not permitted to unregister a device after devices have been suspended.
It causes deadlocks to appear on systems with coretemp hwmon loaded.  To avoid
this, we can make coretemp_cpu_callback() do nothing if the _FROZEN bit is set
in action.

Also, in other cases it's generally too late to unregister the coretemp device
if the CPU is already dead, so it should be unregistered on CPU_DOWN_PREPARE.

René Rebe 8de577095d hwmon: (applesmc) Add support for Mac Pro 2 x Quad-Core
At least the 2x Quad-Core Apple Mac Pro appears to have some over-heat
protection which suddenly powers off the whole box under load. This adds
support for the fans and temerature sensors in the Mac Pro - later some
"windwarm" a-like code should probably monitor the values. For now
manually tweaking the fans prevents the sudden shutdown for me.

cd /sys/devices/platform/applesmc.768
for x in fan{1,2,3,4}; do
	echo 1 > ${x}_manual
	echo 1285 > ${x}_output
done

Two sensors are 0, while four are 129 °C, those might be removed again,
later.

Jim Cromie df48ed804f hwmon: (w83627hf) hoist nr-1 offset out of show-store-temp-X
This hoists nr-1 offset out of (show|store)_temp_*(.*) callbacks, and into
SENSOR_DEVICE_ATTRs for sysfs tempN_X files. It also combines
temp[1] and temp_add[2] (array) fields in w83627hf_data into 3 elem arrays,
which simplifies special-case handling of nr, allowing simplification
of callback bodies and rerolling a flattened loop in
w83627hf_update_device(struct device *dev).

The array conversion changes temp[1] from u8 to u16, but this was
happening implicitly via the helper functions anyway.

Mike Travis 92cb7612ae x86: convert cpuinfo_x86 array to a per_cpu array
cpu_data is currently an array defined using NR_CPUS. This means that
we overallocate since we will rarely really use maximum configured cpus.
When NR_CPU count is raised to 4096 the size of cpu_data becomes
3,145,728 bytes.

These changes were adopted from the sparc64 (and ia64) code. An
additional field was added to cpuinfo_x86 to be a non-ambiguous cpu
index. This corresponds to the index into a cpumask_t as well as the
per_cpu index. It's used in various places like show_cpuinfo().

cpu_data is defined to be the boot_cpu_data structure for the NON-SMP
case.

Jean Delvare d58df9cd78 hwmon: (w83627hf) don't assume bank 0
The bank switching code assumes that the bank selector is set to 0
when the driver is loaded. This might not be the case. This is exactly
the same bug as was fixed in the w83627ehf driver two months ago:
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commit;h=0956895aa6f8dc6a33210967252fd7787652537d

In practice, this bug was causing the sensor thermal types to be
improperly reported for my W83627THF the first time I was loading the
w83627hf driver. From the driver history, I'd say that it has been
broken since September 2005 (when we stopped resetting the chip by
default at driver load.)

This patch adds support for the SMSC SCH3112, SCH3114, and SCH3116 Super-I/O
chips. These chips feature identical hardware monitoring capabilites with the
expection that some of the fan inputs and pmw outputs don't exist.

The hardware monitoring features of the SCH311x chips can only be accessed via
the ISA bus. The driver therefore registers as a platform driver, if such a
chip is detected.

Jeff Garzik 1855256c49 drivers/firmware: const-ify DMI API and internals
Three main sets of changes:

1) dmi_get_system_info() return value should have been marked const,
since callers should not be changing that data.

2) const-ify DMI internals, since DMI firmware tables should,
whenever possible, be marked const to ensure we never ever write to
   that data area.

3) const-ify DMI API, to enable marking tables const where possible
   in low-level drivers.

And if we're really lucky, this might enable some additional
optimizations on the part of the compiler.

The bulk of the changes are #2 and #3, which are interrelated. #1 could
have been a separate patch, but it was so small compared to the others,
it was easier to roll it into this changeset.

Here is a small fscher bugfix for 2.6.23 merging, lifted from my other fscher

Make sure you loaded all the kernel drivers you need.
Try sensors-detect to find out which these are.
zsh: 2701 exit 1 sensors

and dmesg contains:

Hans de Goede acf346a311 hwmon: fix lm78 detection regression
Here is a small but important bugfix to the lm78 driver. I found out about this
problem because a Fedora user filed a bug that the lm78 driver no longer worked
on his system: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=249428

The problem is that sometime ago the isa lm78 detection was made more stringent
and this new code now checks the chip-id, but does not accept a chip-id of 20h,
however a chip-id of 20h is valid, and is excepted in the main probe function
of the driver, see line 551. This fixed also makes the isa detection code
accept the chip-id of 0x20 fixing this issue.

Jean Delvare 7817a39e65 hwmon: Fault files naming convention
We have the following naming convention documented in
Documentation/hwmon/sysfs-interface for fault files:

in[0-*]_input_fault
fan[1-*]_input_fault
temp[1-*]_input_fault

Some drivers follow this convention (lm63, lm83, lm90, smsc47m192).
However some drivers omit the "input" part and create files named
fan1_fault (pc87427) or temp1_fault (dme1737). And the new "generic"
libsensors follows this second (non-standard) convention, so it fails
to report fault conditions for drivers which follow the standard.

We want a single naming scheme, and everyone seems to prefer the
shorter variant, so let's go for it.

Rafael J. Wysocki 8bb7844286 Add suspend-related notifications for CPU hotplug
Since nonboot CPUs are now disabled after tasks and devices have been
frozen and the CPU hotplug infrastructure is used for this purpose, we need
special CPU hotplug notifications that will help the CPU-hotplug-aware
subsystems distinguish normal CPU hotplug events from CPU hotplug events
related to a system-wide suspend or resume operation in progress. This
patch introduces such notifications and causes them to be used during
suspend and resume transitions. It also changes all of the
CPU-hotplug-aware subsystems to take these notifications into consideration
(for now they are handled in the same way as the corresponding "normal"
ones).

Some hardware monitoring drivers create the VID/VRM interface files
conditionally depending on the chip model or configuration. We should

prevents printing unnecessary warnings such as the one reported here:

Jean Delvare ce7ee4e80a hwmon: Request the I/O regions in platform drivers
My understanding of the resource management in the Linux 2.6 device
driver model is that the devices should declare their resources, and
then when a driver attaches to a device, it should request the
resources it will be using, so as to mark them busy. This is how the
PCI and PNP subsystems work, you can clearly see the two levels of
resources (declaration and request) in /proc/ioports for these
devices.

So I believe that our platform hardware monitoring drivers should
follow the same logic. At the moment, we only declare the resources
but we do not request them. This patch adds the I/O region request
and release calls.

Jean Delvare 33725ad36d hwmon/w83627ehf: Fix the fan5 clock divider write
Users have been complaining about the w83627ehf driver flooding their logs
with debug messages like:

w83627ehf 9191-0a10: Increasing fan 4 clock divider from 64 to 128

or:

w83627ehf 9191-0290: Increasing fan 4 clock divider from 4 to 8

The reason is that we failed to actually write the LSB of the encoded clock
divider value for that fan, causing the next read to report the same old value
again and again.

Additionally, the fan number was improperly reported, making the bug harder to
find.

David Brownell 37f54ee546 hwmon: Use subsys_initcall
Subsystem infrastructure should normally register with "subsys_initcall",
so that it's available to drivers that may need to initialize early.

This patch updates "hwmon" to do so. It's common for embedded systems to
have multifunction chips with hardware monitoring interfaces, and to have
those chips be used during system bringup ... before a normal "module_init"
would kick, or maybe just linked so they'd init before hwmon.

Jean Delvare 7f999aa726 hwmon: Simplify the locking model of two drivers
Many hardware monitoring drivers use two different mutexes, one to
protect their per-device data structure, and one to protect the
access to the device registers. These mutexes are essentially
redundant, as the drivers are transfering values between the device
registers and the data cache, so they almost always end up holding
both mutexes at the same time. Using a single mutex will make the
code more simple and faster.

I am changing only two of the affected drivers here, the authors
of the other affected drivers are welcome to submit similar patches
if they want.

Add support for the Fintek F71872F/FG Super-I/O chip. It is basically the
same as the Fintek F71805F/FG as far as hardware monitoring is concerned,
with two additional internal voltages monitored (VSB and battery), and 6
VID inputs (not yet supported.)

To make things a bit more confusing, two of the voltage input pins (in4
and in8) can be used for other functions. The driver reads the pin
configuration from the Super-I/O configuration space to decide whether
it must create interface files for these inputs or not.

Hans de Goede faf9b61632 [PATCH] hwmon: abituguru timeout fixes
This patch contains 2 sets of fixes for the abituguru:
 1) Much improved timeout handling, drasticly reducing the amount of
    timeout errors on some motherboards
 2) Fix the exit paths in the bank1 sensor type detect code to always
restore the original settings even on an error. Without this our
special test settings could remain seriously confusing the system
    BIOS's setup menu.

Both are very much related and are must haves, to avoid messing up the
uguru CMOS settings.

Detailed changes:
- Much improved timeout / wait for status handling. Many thanks to Sunil
Kumar, for all his testing, ideas and patches! The code now first busy
waits, polling the uguru for the expected status as this usually
succeeds pretty quickly (within 90 reads). To avoid unnecessary CPU burn
in timeout conditions, the amount of busy waiting has been halved from
previous versions (120 tries instead of 250). This is not a problem,
because this version goes to sleep after 120 attemps for 1 jiffy and
then tries again, it does this sleep and try again 5 times before
finally giving up. This (almost?) completly removes the timeout errors
some people have seen regulary. Apparently some older uguru versions
sometimes are distracted for a (relatively) long time. This solves this.
- These timeout errors not only occur in the sending address part of
reading the uguru but also in the wait for read state, so errors in
this state are now handled as retryable just like send address state
errors and are only logged and reported to userspace if 3 executive
  tries fail.
- Fix a very nasty bug in the bank1 sensor type detection code, where it
would not restore the original settings in any of the error paths!
- Since not successfully restoring the original settings can seriously
confuse the system BIOS (hang when entering the relevant setup menu),
we now try restoring them 3 times before giving up.

Kaiwan N Billimoria e1a8e913f9 [PATCH] lm70: New hardware monitoring driver
This driver implements support for the National Semiconductor LM70
temperature sensor.

The LM70 temperature sensor chip supports a single temperature sensor.
It communicates with a host processor (or microcontroller) via an
SPI/Microwire Bus interface.

Communication with the LM70 is simple: when the temperature is to be sensed,
the driver accesses the LM70 using SPI communication: 16 SCLK cycles
comprise the MOSI/MISO loop. At the end of the transfer, the 11-bit 2's
complement digital temperature (sent via the SIO line), is available in the
driver for interpretation. This driver makes use of the kernel's in-core
SPI support.

Only scan I2C address 0x2d. This is the default address and no IT87xxF
chip was ever seen on I2C at a different address. These chips are
better accessed through their ISA interface anyway.

This fixes bug #5889, although it doesn't address the whole class
of problems. We'd need the ability to blacklist arbitrary I2C addresses
on systems known to contain I2C devices which behave badly when probed.

Plan the I2C interface for removal as well. If nobody complains within

actually needed by anyone.

This is my f71805f hardware monitoring driver ported from lm_sensors

Jean Delvare d0d3cd6965 [PATCH] hwmon: Fix lm78 VID conversion

Jean Delvare c3df5806cd [PATCH] hwmon: Add PEC support to the lm90 driver
Add PEC support to the lm90 driver. Only the ADM1032 chip supports it,
and in a rather tricky way, which is why this patch comes with
documentation reinforcements. At least, this demonstrates that the new
PEC support logic in i2c-core can properly deal with chips with partial
PEC support.

As enabling PEC causes a significant performance drop, it can be
disabled through a sysfs file (unsurprisingly named "pec").

Petr Vandrovec ada0c2f8fa [PATCH] hwmon: Fix w83627ehf/hf vs PNPACPI conflict (bug #4014)
This patch changes w83627hf and w83627ehf drivers to reserve only ports
0x295-0x296, instead of full 0x290-0x297 range. While some other
sensors chips respond to all addresses in 0x290-0x297 range, Winbond
chips respond to 0x295-0x296 only (this behavior is implied by
documentation, and matches behavior observed on real systems). This is
not problem alone, as no BIOS was found to put something at these unused
addresses, and sensors chip itself provides nothing there as well.

But in addition to only respond to these two addresses, also BIOS
vendors report in their ACPI-PnP structures that there is some resource
at I/O address 0x295 of length 2. And when later this hwmon driver
attempts to request region with base 0x290/length 8, it fails as one
request_region cannot span more than one device.

Due to this we have to ask only for region this hardware really
occupies, otherwise driver cannot be loaded on systems with ACPI-PnP
enabled.

Russell King 9480e307cd [PATCH] DRIVER MODEL: Get rid of the obsolete tri-level suspend/resume callbacks
In PM v1, all devices were called at SUSPEND_DISABLE level. Then
all devices were called at SUSPEND_SAVE_STATE level, and finally
SUSPEND_POWER_DOWN level. However, with PM v2, to maintain
compatibility for platform devices, I arranged for the PM v2
suspend/resume callbacks to call the old PM v1 suspend/resume
callbacks three times with each level in order so that existing
drivers continued to work.

Since this is obsolete infrastructure which is no longer necessary,
we can remove it. Here's an (untested) patch to do exactly that.

Jim Cromie 694fa056a6 [PATCH] hwmon: (2/3) pc87360 driver update
pc87360: number-skew to init

The temp, therm, fan, pwm callbacks all have an offset skew in the code
which accommodates attribute numbering conventions under
/sys/bus/i2c/devices/9191-6620/ (ie they start at 1)

This patch moves that skew into the declaration, and out of the
functions (except for therm, where we simplify from 2 skews to 1). The
declarative skew is clearer, less error-prone, and more efficient.

The use of 11+offset-4 below reflects the fact that the sysfs numbering
of these units is 4, 5, 6, but they use internal VLM units 11, 12, 13 to
measure the thermistor voltages.

There's one remaining skew factor, in *_crit callbacks below, because
there are no critical thresholds for voltages 0-10, only for those
supporting the thermistors.

Jean Delvare d0f282706d [PATCH] hwmon: hwmon vs i2c, second round (10/11)
I see very little reason why vid_from_reg is inlined. It is not
exactly short, its parameters are seldom known in advance, and it is
never called in speed critical areas. Uninlining it should cause
little performance loss if any, and saves a signficant space as well
as compilation time.

As suggested by Alexey Dobriyan, I am leaving vid_to_reg inline for now,
as it is short and has a single user so far.

Jean Delvare 303760b44a [PATCH] hwmon: hwmon vs i2c, second round (07/11)
The only part left in i2c-sensor is the VRM/VRD/VID handling code.
This is in no way related to i2c, so it doesn't belong there. Move
the code to hwmon, where it belongs.

Note that not all hardware monitoring drivers do VRM/VRD/VID
operations, so less drivers depend on hwmon-vid than there were
depending on i2c-sensor.

Jean Delvare f4b5026120 [PATCH] hwmon: hwmon vs i2c, second round (06/11)
The only thing left in i2c-sensor.h are module parameter definition
macros. It's only an extension of what i2c.h offers, and this extension
is not sensors-specific. As a matter of fact, a few non-sensors drivers
use them. So we better merge them in i2c.h, and get rid of i2c-sensor.h
altogether.

Jean Delvare e6cfb3ad72 [PATCH] hwmon: tag super-i/o find functions __init
Super-I/O find functions in hardware monitoring drivers can be tagged
__init as they are only called from functions themselves tagged __init.
Two of them (smsc47b397 and w83627ehf) already do, but the other four
of them (it87, pc87360, smsc47m1 and w83627hf) did not.

This saves a few bytes of memory after the drivers are loaded, 192 in
the case of the it87 driver.

Jean Delvare 2d8672c5a6 [PATCH] I2C: Separate non-i2c hwmon drivers from i2c-core (5/9)
Call the ISA chip drivers detection function directly instead of relying
on i2c_detect. The net effect is that address lists won't be handled
anymore, but they were mostly useless in the ISA case anyway (pc87360,
smsc47m1, smsc47b397 had already dropped them).

We don't need to handle multiple devices, all we may need is a way to
force a given address instead of the original one (some drivers already
do: sis5595, via686a, w83627hf), and, for drivers supporting multiple
chips, a way to force one given kind. All this may be added later on
demand, but I actually don't think there will be much demand.

Jean Delvare 5042c7d752 [PATCH] I2C: Separate non-i2c hwmon drivers from i2c-core (4/9)
All ISA hardware monitoring drivers (including hybrid drivers) now have
a hard dependency on i2c-isa, so they must select I2C_ISA. As a result,
CONFIG_I2C_ISA doesn't need to be left visible to the user. The good
thing here is that users will stop complaining that some driver doesn't
work just because they forgot to compile or load i2c-isa.

At this point, all drivers are working again and the cleanup phase can
begin.

Convert the 10 ISA hardware monitoring drivers (it87, lm78, pc87360,
sis5595, smsc47b397, smsc47m1, via686a, w83627hf, w83627ehf, w83781d) to
explicitely register with i2c-isa. For hybrid drivers (it87, lm78,
w83781d), we now have two separate instances of i2c_driver, one for the
I2C interface of the chip, and one for ISA interface. In the long run,
the one for ISA will be replaced with a different driver type.

At this point, all drivers are working again, except for missing
dependencies in Kconfig.
