Each of the CPU clusters (Power and Perf) on msm8996 are
clocked via 2 PLLs, a primary and alternate. There are also
2 Mux'es, a primary and secondary all connected together
as shown below
+-------+

The primary PLL is what drives the CPU clk, except for times
when we are reprogramming the PLL itself (for rate changes) when
we temporarily switch to an alternate PLL. A subsequent patch adds
support to switch between primary and alternate PLL during rate
changes.
The primary PLL operates on a single VCO range, between 600MHz
and 3GHz. However the CPUs do support OPPs with frequencies
between 300MHz and 600MHz. In order to support running the CPUs
at those frequencies we end up having to lock the PLL at twice
the rate and drive the CPU clk via the PLL/2 output and SMUX.

After being gained by the CCU PLLs the signals must be transformed to
be suitable for the clock-consumers. This is done by a set of dividers
embedded into the CCU. A first block of dividers is used to create
reference clocks for AXI-bus of high-speed peripheral IP-cores of the
chip. The second block dividers alter the PLLs output signals to be then
consumed by SoC peripheral devices. Both block DT nodes are ordinary
clock-providers with standard set of properties supported. But in addition
to that each clock provider can be used to reset the corresponding clock
domain. This makes the AXI-bus and System Devices CCU DT nodes to be also
reset-providers.

Baikal-T1 Clocks Control Unit is responsible for transformation of a
signal coming from an external oscillator into clocks of various
frequencies to propagate them then to the corresponding clocks
consumers (either individual IP-blocks or clock domains). In order
to create a set of high-frequency clocks the external signal is
firstly handled by the embedded into CCU PLLs. So the corresponding
dts-node is just a normal clock-provider node with standard set of
properties. Note as being part of the Baikal-T1 System Controller its
DT node is supposed to be a child the system controller node.

had between 2 and 4 cells which really only errors on I2C or SPI type

The easiest fix in most cases is to change the 'reg' property to for 1 cell
address and size. In some cases with child devices having 2 cells, that
doesn't make sense so a bus node is needed.

json-schema versions draft7 and earlier have a weird behavior in that
any keywords combined with a '$ref' are ignored (silently). The correct
form was to put a '$ref' under an 'allOf'. This behavior is now changed
in the 2019-09 json-schema spec and '$ref' can be mixed with other
keywords. The json-schema library doesn't yet support this, but the
tooling now does a fixup for this and either way works.
This has been a constant source of review comments, so let's change this
treewide so everyone copies the simpler syntax.

majority of the diff is the normal collection of driver additions for new SoCs
and non-critical clk data fixes and updates. The framework must be middle aged.
The two biggest directories in the diffstat show that the Qualcomm and Unisoc
support added a handful of big drivers for new SoCs but that's not really the
whole story because those new drivers tend to add large numbers of lines of clk
data. There's a handful of AT91 clk drivers added this time around too and a
bunch of improvements to drivers like the i.MX driver. All around lots of
updates and fixes in various clk drivers which is good to see.
The core framework has only one real major change which has been baking in next
for the past couple months. It fixes the framework so that it stops caching a
clk's phase when the phase clk_op returns an error. Before this change we would
consider some negative errno as a phase and that just doesn't make sense.
Core:
- Don't show clk phase when it is invalid
New Drivers:
- Add support for Unisoc SC9863A clks
- Qualcomm SM8250 RPMh and MSM8976 RPM clks
- Qualcomm SM8250 Global Clock Controller (GCC) support
- Qualcomm SC7180 Modem Clock Controller (MSS CC) support
- EHRPWM's TimeBase clock(TBCLK) for TI AM654 SoCs
- Support PMC clks on at91sam9n12, at91rm9200, sama5d3, and at91sam9g45 SoCs

- Add missing of_node_put() call for a number of i.MX clock drivers
- Drop flag CLK_IS_CRITICAL from 'A53_CORE' mux clock, as we already
have the flag on its child cpu clock
- Fix a53 cpu clock for i.MX8 drivers to get it source from ARM PLL

Setting 'additionalProperties: false' is frequently omitted, but is
important in order to check that there aren't extra undocumented
properties in a binding.
Ideally, we'd just add this automatically and make this the default, but
there's some cases where it doesn't work. For example, if a common
schema is referenced, then properties in the common schema aren't part
of what's considered for 'additionalProperties'. Also, sometimes there
are bus specific properties such as 'spi-max-frequency' that go into
bus child nodes, but aren't defined in the child node's schema.
So let's stick with the json-schema defined default and add
'additionalProperties: false' where needed. This will be a continual
review comment and game of wack-a-mole.

This makes the qcom, videocc bindings match the recent changes to the
dispcc and gpucc.
1. Switched to using "bi_tcxo" instead of "xo".
2. Adds a description for the XO clock. Not terribly important but
nice if it cleanly matches its cousins.
3. Updates the example to use the symbolic name for the RPMH clock and
also show that the real devices are currently using 2 address cells
/ size cells and fixes the spacing on the closing brace.
4. Split into 2 files. In this case they could probably share one
file, but let's be consistent.

The qcom, gpucc bindings had a few problems with them:
1. When things were converted to yaml the name of the "gpll0 main"
clock got changed from "gpll0" to "gpll0_main". Change it back for
msm8998.
2. Apparently there is a push not to use purist aliases for clocks but
instead to just use the internal Qualcomm names. For sdm845 and
sc7180 (where the drivers haven't already been changed) move in
this direction.
Things were also getting complicated harder to deal with by jamming
several SoCs into one file. Splitting simplifies things.

The qcom, dispcc bindings had a few problems with them:
1. They didn't specify all the clocks that dispcc is a client of.
Specifically on sc7180 there are two clocks from the DSI PHY and
two from the DP PHY. On sdm845 there are actually two DSI PHYs
(each of which has two clocks) and an extra clock from the gcc.
These all need to be specified.
2. The sdm845.dtsi has existed for quite some time without specifying
the clocks. The Linux driver was relying on global names to match
things up. While we should transition things, it should be noted
in the bindings.
3. The names used the bindings for "xo" and "gpll0" didn't match the
names that QC used for these clocks internally and this was causing
confusion / difficulty with their code generation tools. Switched
to the internal names to simplify everyone's lives. It's not quite
as clean in a purist sense but it should avoid headaches. This
officially changes the binding, but that seems OK in this case.
Also note that I updated the example.

the normal collection of driver updates to support new SoCs, fix incorrect
data, and convert various drivers to clk_hw based APIs.
In the core, we allow clk_ops::init() to return an error code now so that we
can fail clk registration if the callback does something like fail to allocate
memory. We also add a new "terminate" clk_op so that things done in
clk_ops::init() can be undone, e.g. free memory. We also spit out a warning now
when critical clks fail to enable and we support changing clk rates and
enable/disable state through debugfs when developers compile the kernel
themselves.
On the driver front, we get support for what seems like a lot of Qualcomm and
NXP SoCs given that those vendors dominate the diffstat. There are a couple new
drivers for Xilinx and Amlogic SoCs too. The updates are all small things like
fixing the way glitch free muxes switch parents, avoiding div-by-zero problems,
or fixing data like parent names. See the updates section below for more
details.
Finally, the "basic" clk types have been converted to support specifying
parents with clk_hw pointers. This work includes an overhaul of the fixed-rate
clk type to be more modern by using clk_hw APIs.
Core:
- Let clk_ops::init() return an error code

The 'qcom,gcc.yaml' file failed self-validation (dt_binding_check)
because it required a property to be either (3 entries big),
(3 entries big), or (7 entries big), but not more than one of those
things. That didn't make a ton of sense.
This patch splits all of the exceptional device trees (AKA those that
would have needed if/then/else rules) from qcom,gcc.yaml. It also
cleans up some cruft found while doing that.
After this lands, this worked for me atop clk-next with just the known
error about msm8998:
for f in \
Documentation/devicetree/bindings/clock/qcom,gcc-apq8064.yaml \
Documentation/devicetree/bindings/clock/qcom,gcc-ipq8074.yaml \
Documentation/devicetree/bindings/clock/qcom,gcc-msm8996.yaml \
Documentation/devicetree/bindings/clock/qcom,gcc-msm8998.yaml \
Documentation/devicetree/bindings/clock/qcom,gcc-qcs404.yaml \
Documentation/devicetree/bindings/clock/qcom,gcc-sc7180.yaml \
Documentation/devicetree/bindings/clock/qcom,gcc-sm8150.yaml \
Documentation/devicetree/bindings/clock/qcom,gcc.yaml; do \
ARCH=arm64 make dtbs_check DT_SCHEMA_FILES=$f; \
done
I then picked this patch atop linux-next (next-20200129) and ran:
# Delete broken yaml:
rm Documentation/devicetree/bindings/pci/intel-gw-pcie.yaml
ARCH=arm64 make dt_binding_check | grep 'clock/qcom'
...and that didn't seem to indicate problems.
Arbitrary decisions made (yell if you want changed):
- Left all the older devices (where clocks / clock-names weren't
specified) in a single file.
- Didn't make clocks "required" for msm8996 but left them as listed.
This seems a little weird but it matches the old binding.
Misc cleanups as part of this patch:
- Fixed schema id to not have "bindings/" as per Rob [1].
- Listed include files as per Stephen.
- sm8150 was claimed to be same set of clocks as sc7180, but driver
and dts appear to say that "bi_tcxo_ao" doesn't exist. Fixed.
- In "apq8064", "#thermal-sensor-cells" was missing the "#".
- Got rid of "|" at the end of top description since spacing doesn't
matter.
- Changed indentation to consistently 2 spaces (it was 3 in some
places).
- Added period at the end of protected-clocks description.
- No space before ":".
- Updated sc7180/sm8150 example to use the 'qcom, rpmh.h' include.
- Updated sc7180/sm8150 example to use larger address/size cells as
per reality.
- Updated sc7180/sm8150 example to point to the sleep_clk rather than
<0>.
- Made it so that gcc-ipq8074 didn't require #power-domain-cells since
actual dts didn't have it and I got no hits from:
git grep _GDSC include/dt-bindings/clock/qcom,gcc-ipq8074.h
- Made it so that gcc-qcs404 didn't require #power-domain-cells since
actual dts didn't have it and I got no hits from:
git grep _GDSC include/dt-bindings/clock/qcom,gcc-qcs404.h
Noticed, but not done in this patch (volunteers needed):
- Add "aud_ref_clk" to sm8150 bindings / dts even though I found a
reference to it in "gcc-sm8150.c".
- Fix node name in actual ipq8074 to be "clock-controller" (it's gcc).
- Since the example doesn't need phandes to exist, in msm8998 could
just make up places providing some of the clocks currently bogused
out with <0>.
- On msm8998 clocks are listed as required but current dts doesn't
have them.

We currently have a hidden dependency to the device tree node name for
the clkctrl clocks. Instead of using standard node name like "clock", we
must use "l4-per-clkctrl" type naming so the clock driver can find the
associated clock domain. Further, if "clk" is specified for a clock node
name, the driver sets TI_CLK_CLKCTRL_COMPAT flag that uses different
logic for the clock name based on the parent node name for the all the
clkctrl clocks for the SoC.
If the clock node naming dependency is not understood, the related
clockdomain is not found, or a wrong one can get used if a clock manager
has multiple clock domains.
As each clkctrl instance represents a single clock domain, let's allow
using domain specific compatible names to specify the clock domain.
This simplifies things and removes the hidden dependency to the node
name. And then later on, after the node names have been standardized,
we can drop the related code for parsing the node names.
Let's also update the binding to use standard "clock" node naming
instead of "clk" and add the missing description for reg.

it should not be a fixed clock.
MIPI PHY PLL is in the MIPI DSI space, and it is used as
the bit clock for transferring the pixel data out and its
output clock is configured according to the display mode.
So it should be used only for MIPI DSI and not be exported
out for other usages.

The px30 contains 2 separate clock controllers the regular cru creating
most clocks as well as the pmucru managing the GPLL and some other clocks.
The gpll of course also is needed by the cru, so while we normally do rely
on clock names to associate clocks getting probed later on (for example
xin32k coming from an i2c device in most cases) it is safer to declare the
explicit dependency between the two crus. This makes sure that for example
the clock-framework probes them in the correct order from the start.
The assigned-clocks properties were simply working by chance in the past
so split them accordingly to the 2 crus to honor the loading direction.

and expose the GP1, DSU and the CPU 1, 2 & 3 clocks.
SM1 clock tree is very close, the main differences are :
- each CPU core can achieve a different frequency, albeit a common PLL
- a similar tree as the clock tree has been added for the DynamIQ Shared
Unit
- has a new GP1 PLL used for the DynamIQ Shared Unit
- SM1 has additional clocks like for CSI, NanoQ an other components

side. The two main highlights in the core framework are the addition of an bulk
clk_get API that handles optional clks and an extra debugfs file that tells the
developer about the current parent of a clk.
The driver updates are dominated by i.MX in the diffstat, but that is mostly
because that SoC has started converting to the clk_hw style of clk
registration. The next big update is in the Amlogic meson clk driver that
gained some support for audio, cpu, and temperature clks while fixing some PLL
issues. Finally, the biggest thing that stands out is the conversion of a large
part of the Allwinner sunxi-ng driver to the new clk parent scheme that uses
less strings and more pointer comparisons to match clk parents and children up.
In general, it looks like we have a lot of little fixes and tweaks here and
there to clk data along with the normal addition of a handful of new drivers
and a couple new core framework features.
Core:
- Add a 'clk_parent' file in clk debugfs
- Add a clk_bulk_get_optional() API (with devm too)
New Drivers:
- Support gated clk controller on MIPS based BCM63XX SoCs
- Support SiLabs Si5341 and Si5340 chips
- Support for CPU clks on Raspberry Pi devices
- Audsys clock driver for MediaTek MT8516 SoCs
Updates:
- Convert a large portion of the Allwinner sunxi-ng driver to new clk parent scheme
- Small frequency support for SiLabs Si544 chips

- Remove dead code in various clk drivers (-Wunused)

updates this time around. It's the usual pile of new drivers for new
hardware out there and the normal small fixes and updates, but then we
have some core framework changes too.
In the core framework, we introduce support for a clk_get_optional() API
to get clks that may not always be populated and a way to devm manage clkdev
lookups registered by provider drivers. We also do some refactoring to simplify
the interface between clkdev and the common clk framework so we can reuse the DT
parsing and clk_get() path in provider drivers in the future. This work will
continue in the next few cycles while we convert how providers specify clk
parents.
On the driver side, the biggest part of the dirstat is the Amlogic clk driver
that got support for the G12A SoC. It dominates with almost half the overall
diff, while the second largest part of the diff is in the i.MX clk driver
that gained support for imx8mm SoCs. After that, we have the Actions Semiconductor
and Qualcomm drivers rounding out the big part of the dirstat because they both
got new hardware support for SoCs. The rest is just various updates and non-critical
fixes for existing drivers.
Core:
- Convert a few clk bindings to JSON schema format
- Add a {devm_}clk_get_optional() API
- Add devm_clk_hw_register_clkdev() API to manage clkdev lookups
- Start rewriting clk parent registration and supporting device links
by moving around code that supports clk_get() and DT parsing of the
'clocks' property
New Drivers:
- Add Qualcomm MSM8998 RPM managed clks

As usual, this is where the bulk of our changes end up landing each
merge window.
The individual updates are too many to enumerate, many many platforms
have seen additions of device descriptions such that they are
functionally more complete (in fact, this is often the bulk of updates
we see).
Instead I've mostly focused on highlighting the new platforms below as
they are introduced. Sometimes the introduction is of mostly a fragment,
that later gets filled in on later releases, and in some cases it's
near-complete platform support. The latter is more common for derivative
platforms that already has similar support in-tree.
Two SoCs are slight outliers from the usual range of additions. Allwinner
support for F1C100s, a quite old SoC (ARMv5-based) shipping in the
Lychee Pi Nano platform. At the other end is NXP Layerscape LX2160A,
a 16-core 2.2GHz Cortex-A72 SoC with a large amount of I/O aimed at
infrastructure/networking.
TI updates stick out in the diff stats too, in particular because they
have moved the description of their L4 on-chip interconnect to devicetree,
which opens up for removal of even more of their platform-specific
'hwmod' description tables over the next few releases.

The Low-Power Clock Gate (LPCG) modules contain a local programming
model to control the clock gates for the peripherals. An LPCG module
is used to locally gate the clocks for the associated peripheral.
Note:
This level of clock gating is provided after the clocks are generated
by the SCU resources and clock controls. Thus even if the clock is
enabled by these control bits, it might still not be running based
on the base resource.

When specifying external clock inputs to the CCM the current code
requires the clocks to be in a "clocks" child node of the DT root.
This is not really conformant with DT best practices.
To avoid the need to deviate from those best practices, allow the
clock inputs to be specified via standard clock handles. This is
in line with how drivers of the later CCM driver revisions on
newer i.MX SoCs handle this.
As we can't retroactively change the DT binding, allow this as an
option with a fallback to the old way of how this has been handled.
