Lin Ming febe53ba6b libata-acpi: set acpi state for SATA port
Currently, ata_acpi_set_state() only sets acpi sate for IDE port.
Remove this limitation.

Matthew Garrett 30dcf76acc libata: migrate ACPI code over to new bindings
Now that we have the ability to directly glue the ACPI namespace to the
driver model in libata, we don't need the custom code to handle the same
thing. Remove it and migrate the functions over to the new code.

Linus Torvalds 2795343705 arm-soc: clock driver changes
The new clock subsystem was merged in linux-3.4 without any users, this
now moves the first three platforms over to it: imx, mxs and spear.

The series also contains the changes for the clock subsystem itself,
since Mike preferred to have it together with the platforms that require
these changes, in order to avoid interdependencies and conflicts.

Prarit Bhargava d70e551c8e [libata] Add " 2GB ATA Flash Disk"/"ADMA428M" to DMA blacklist
A user has several systems with a couple of models of flash disks with IDE
connectors. These disks work fine in 2.6.18-ish kernels but corrupt data on
new kernels.

The difference appears to be with the default I/O method used by the IDE
controller driver between the kernels. In the older kernels, the
configuration is very conservative and the driver stays in PIO mode. With
new kernels, the ata driver (pata_serverworks) attempts to use UDMA/66
which the drive claims to support. This mode, however, does not appear to
work in DMA mode. The drive does work correctly and no corruption is
seen if the kernel parameter "libata.force=5:pio0,6:pio0" is used to force
the driver to use PIO instead of DMA mode.

Blacklist these drives. Unfortunately the model name of the drive is very
generic, " 2GB ATA Flash Disk", but the revision is specific, "ADMA428M".

Mark Lord 8d899e70c1 libata-eh don't waste time retrying media errors (v3)
ATA and SATA drives have had built-in retries for media errors
for as long as they've been commonplace in computers (early 1990s).

When libata stumbles across a bad sector, it can waste minutes
sitting there doing retry after retry before finally giving up
and letting the higher layers deal with it.

This patch removes retries for media errors only.

Andy Whitcroft cd006086fa ata_piix: defer disks to the Hyper-V drivers by default
When we are hosted on a Microsoft Hyper-V hypervisor the guest disks
are exposed both via the Hyper-V paravirtualised drivers and via an
emulated SATA disk drive. In this case we want to use the paravirtualised
drivers if we can as they are much more efficient. Note that the Hyper-V
paravirtualised drivers only expose the virtual hard disk devices, the
CDROM/DVD devices must still be enumerated.

Mark the host controller ATA_HOST_IGNORE_ATA to prevent enumeration of

following differences:

 -ata1: SATA max UDMA/133 abar m2048@0xf9fff000 port 0xf9fff100 irq 47
 -ata2: SATA max UDMA/133 abar m2048@0xf9fff000 port 0xf9fff180 irq 47

 +ata6: DUMMY
 +ata7: SATA max UDMA/133 abar m2048@0xf9fff000 port 0xf9fff380 irq 47

The change of numbering comes from commit 85d6725b7c ("libata:
make ata_print_id atomic") that changed lines like

	ap->print_id = ata_print_id++;
		to
	ap->print_id = atomic_inc_return(&ata_print_id);

As the latter behaves like ++ata_print_id, we must initialize
it to zero to start the numbering from one.

Lin Ming 6868225e3e libata: skip old error history when counting probe trials
Commit d902747("[libata] Add ATA transport class") introduced
ATA_EFLAG_OLD_ER to mark entries in the error ring as cleared.

But ata_count_probe_trials_cb() didn't check this flag and it still
counts the old error history. So wrong probe trials count is returned
and it causes problem, for example, SATA link speed is slowed down from
3.0Gbps to 1.5Gbps.

Fix it by checking ATA_EFLAG_OLD_ER in ata_count_probe_trials_cb().

 1) AHCI regression fix. A recent "make driver conform to spec" change
broke on deployed hardware. Make new behavior optional, rather than
default, turning it on only for specific embedded platforms that
    need this.

Everybody else runs in the famous "non conformant but working" mode.

 2) pata_cmd64x, pata_legacy cleanups

 3) new Intel SATA PCI IDs

 4) misc minor vendor feature additions

Sergei Shtylyov 8a686bc984 pata_cmd64x: use interrupt status from MRDMODE register
Start using faster version of the bmdma_stop() method for the PCI0646U and newer
chips that have the duplicate interrupt status bits in the I/O mapped MRDMODE
register. Use the old, slow bmdma_stop() method on the older chips, taking into
account that the interrupt bits are not coupled to DMA and that's enough to read
the register to clear the interrupt (on the older chips). Determine what method
to use at the driver load time.

Fix kernel-doc of the bmdma_stop() methods, while at it.

Julia Lawall d01159dffa drivers/ata/pata_mpc52xx.c: clean up error handling code
This patch makes a number of changes with respect to the error-handling
code:

* Remove cleanup calls for the devm functions in both the error handling
code and the remove function. This cleanup is done automatically.

* The previous change simplifies the cleanup code at the end of the
function such that there is nothing to do on the failure of the call to
devm_ioremap. So it is changed to just return directly.

* There is no need for the ifs in the cleanup code at the end of the
function, because in each case the cleanup needed is statically
known. Drop the ifs, add new err labels, and drop the initializations of
  the tested variables to NULL.

* Change the call to request_irq to a call to devm_request_irq, so that it
  is cleaned up on exit.

* Cause the return value of devm_request_irq to go into the returned
variable rv rather than the unused variable ret. Drop ret.

Brian Norris 66583c9fa6 ahci: add AHCI_HFLAG_DELAY_ENGINE host flag
The following commit was intended to fix problems with specific AHCI
controller(s) that would become bricks if the AHCI specification was not
followed strictly (that is, if ahci_start_engine() was called while the
controller was in the wrong state):

    commit 7faa33da9b
ahci: start engine only during soft/hard resets

However, some devices currently have issues with that fix, so we must
implement a flag that delays the ahci_start_engine() call only for specific
controllers.

This commit simply introduces the flag, without enabling it in any driver.

Note that even when AHCI_HFLAG_DELAY_ENGINE is not enabled, this patch does
not constitue a full revert to commit 7faa33da; there is still a change in
behavior to the ahci_port_suspend() failure path.

Dan Williams 9508a66f89 [SCSI] libsas: async ata scanning
libsas ata error handling is already async but this does not help the
scan case. Move initial link recovery out from under host->scan_mutex,
and delay synchronization with eh until after all port probe/recovery

Device ordering is maintained with scan order by still calling
sas_rphy_add() in order of domain discovery.

Since we now scan the domain list when invoking libata-eh we need to be
careful to check for fully initialized ata ports.

Dan Williams 81c757bc69 [SCSI] libsas: execute transport link resets with libata-eh via host workqueue
Link resets leave ata affiliations intact, so arrange for libsas to make
an effort to avoid dropping the device due to a slow-to-recover link.
Towards this end carry out reset in the host workqueue so that it can
check for ata devices and kick the reset request to libata. Hard
resets, in contrast, bypass libata since they are meant for associating
an ata device with another initiator in the domain (tears down
affiliations).

Need to add a new transport_sas_phy_reset() since the current
sas_phy_reset() is a utility function to libsas lldds. They are not
prepared for it to loop back into eh.

Sergei Shtylyov 909fefc251 pata_bf54x: fix BMIDE status register emulation
The author of this driver clearly wasn't familiar with the BMIDE specification
(also known as SFF-8038i) when he implemented the bmdma_status() method: first,
the interrupt bit of the BMIDE status register corresponds to nothing else but
INTRQ signal (ATAPI_DEV_INT here); second, the error bit is only set if the
controller encounters issue doing the bus master transfers, not on the IDE DMA
burst termination interrupts like here (moreover, setting the error bit doesn't
cause an interrupt). We now need to disable all those unused interrupts...

(The only thing I couldn't figure out is how to flush the FIFO to memory once
the interrupt happens as required by the mentioned spec.)

Lin Ming 9a6d6a2dda ata: make ata port as parent device of scsi host
Currently, the device tree of ata port and scsi host looks as below,

        /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1f.2 (ahci controller)
        |-- ata1 (ata port)
        |-- host0 (scsi host)
           |-- target0:0:0 (scsi target)
               |-- 0:0:0:0 (disk)

This patch makes ata port as parent device of scsi host, then it becomes

        /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1f.2 (ahci controller)
        |-- ata1 (ata port)
            |-- host0 (scsi host)
                |-- target0:0:0 (scsi target)
                    |-- 0:0:0:0 (disk)

With this change, the ata port runtime PM is easier.
For example, the ata port runtime suspend will happen as,

disk suspend --> scsi target suspend --> scsi host suspend --> ata port
suspend.

Tejun Heo 7faa33da9b ahci: start engine only during soft/hard resets
This is another attempt at fixing the same problem that 270dac35c2
(libata: ahci_start_engine compliant to AHCI spec) tried to solve.
Unfortunately, 270dac35c2 created regressions for a lot more common
controllers and got reverted.

This specific AHCI IP block becomes a brick if the DMA engine is
started while DRQ is set. It is not possible to avoid the condition
completely but the most common occurrence is caused by spurious use of
ahci_start_engine() from ahci_start_port() during init sequence.

DMA engine is started after both soft and hard resets and
ahci_start_port() is always followed by resets, so there is no reason
to start DMA engine from ahci_start_port().

This patch removes ahci_start_engine() invocation from
ahci_start_port(). This change makes failure path of
ahci_port_suspend() leave engine stopped without following resets.
This is resolved by replacing ahci_start_port() call with
ata_port_freeze() which forces resets afterwards, which is the better
behavior anyway.

UDMA6 (ATA/133) is not supported on some chipsets and we need to ensure

Julia Lawall a081da630d drivers/ata/sata_dwc_460ex.c: add missing kfree
Currently, error handling code in this function calls the function
sata_dwc_port_stop, but this function has essentially no effect if hsdevp
has not been stored in ap, which is the case throughout this function. The
only effect is to print a debugging message including ap->print_id.

The code is rewritten to not call sata_dwc_port_stop, but instead to jump
to a local label that prints the original error message and the print_id
information. In the case where hsdevp has been already allocated (but not
yet stored in ap), this value is freed as well.

Tejun Heo 8ea7645c5a libata: leave port thawed after reset failure
libata EH intentionally left a port frozen if it failed
ata_eh_reset(). The intention was avoiding continuous loop of resets
when the controller or attached device is flaky and reporting spurious
hotplug events. Once port enters this state, it can be recovered with
manual rescan, which seemed reasonable.

However, outside of my convoluted test setup, there have been very few
reports justifying this choice while there have been more cases where
the automatic freezing of the port after hotplug attempt of a faulty
device caused confusion and led to unnecessary resets.

This patch changes the behavior so that the port is thawed after reset
failure. This change doesn't necessarily solve but makes it easier
and more intuitive to work around hotplug related problems
(ie. re-pluggin or power cycling the device) as reported in the
followings.

Linus Torvalds 4974317055 ahci: change 'masking port_map' printk to KERN_WARNING level
It's not so much an error as a warning about normal Marvell crazines.
So don't use KERN_ERR that ends up spamming the console even in quiet
mode, it's not _that_ critical.

Explained by Jeff:

 "Long explanation, it's a mess:

Marvell took standard AHCI, and bastardized it to include a weird mode
whereby PATA devices appear inside the AHCI DMA and interrupt
  infrastructure you're familiar with.

So, PATA devices appear via pata_marvell driver, using basic legacy
IDE programming interface. But SATA devices, which might also be
attached to this chip, either work in under-performing mode or
simply don't work at all (e.g. newer 6 Gbps devices or port
  multiplier attachments, NCQ, ...)

On the other hand, 'ahci' driver loads and works with the chip's
attached SATA devices quite beautifully, but is completely unable to
drive any attached PATA devices, due to the Marvell-specific
  PATA-under-AHCI interface.

The "masking port_map 0x7 -> 0x3" message is the ahci driver "hiding"
the PATA port(s) from itself, making sure it will only drive the SATA
ports it knows how to drive."

Commit 7b3a24c57d ("ahci: don't enable
port irq before handler is registered") caused a regression for CD-ROMs
attached to the IPR SATA bus on Power machines:

  ata_port_alloc: ENTER
  ata_port_probe: ata1: bus probe begin
  ata1.00: ata_dev_read_id: ENTER
  ata1.00: failed to IDENTIFY (I/O error, err_mask=0x40)

  ata1.00: failed to IDENTIFY (I/O error, err_mask=0x40)
  ata1.00: limiting speed to UDMA7:PIO5
  ata1.00: ata_dev_read_id: ENTER
  ata1.00: failed to IDENTIFY (I/O error, err_mask=0x40)
  ata1.00: disabled
  ata_port_probe: ata1: bus probe end
scsi_alloc_sdev: Allocation failure during SCSI scanning, some SCSI devices might not be configured

The FROZEN flag added in that commit is only cleared by the new EH code,
which is not used by ipr. Clear this flag in the SAS code if we don't
support new EH.

Tejun Heo 8c56cacc72 libata: fix unexpectedly frozen port after ata_eh_reset()
To work around controllers which can't properly plug events while
reset, ata_eh_reset() clears error states and ATA_PFLAG_EH_PENDING
after reset but before RESET is marked done. As reset is the final
recovery action and full verification of devices including onlineness
and classfication match is done afterwards, this shouldn't lead to
lost devices or missed hotplug events.

Unfortunately, it forgot to thaw the port when clearing EH_PENDING, so
if the condition happens after resetting an empty port, the port could
be left frozen and EH will end without thawing it, making the port
unresponsive to further hotplug events.

Thaw if the port is frozen after clearing EH_PENDING. This problem is
reported by Bruce Stenning in the following thread.

Don't powerdown Compaq Triflex IDE device on suspend

This fixes APM suspend on Compaq Armada 7400.
APM BIOS doesn't suspend if IDE is powered down when suspending.
The Triflex controller is found only on old Compaq boards,
so this patch will hopefully have no side effects.

Martin K. Petersen 5f4e206666 libata: Use Maximum Write Same Length to report discard size limit
Previously we used Maximum Unmap LBA Count in the Block Limits VPD to
signal the maximum number of sectors we could handle in a single Write
Same command.

Starting with SBC3r26 the Block Limits VPD has an explicit limit on the
number of blocks in a Write Same. This means we can stop abusing a field
related to the Unmap command and let our SAT use the proper value in the
VPD (Maximum Write Same Length).

James Bottomley 9281b16caa pata_cm64x: fix boot crash on parisc
The old IDE cmd64x checks the status of the CNTRL register to see if
the ports are enabled before probing them. pata_cmd64x doesn't do
this, which causes a HPMC on parisc when it tries to poke at the
secondary port because apparently the BAR isn't wired up (and a
non-responding piece of memory causes a HPMC).

Fix this by porting the CNTRL register port detection logic from IDE
cmd64x. In addition, following converns from Alan Cox, add a check to
see if a mobility electronics bridge is the immediate parent and forgo
the check if it is (prevents problems on hotplug controllers).

James Bottomley 0e0b494ca8 libata: separate error handler into usable components
Right at the moment, the libata error handler is incredibly
monolithic. This makes it impossible to use from composite drivers
like libsas and ipr which have to handle error themselves in the first
instance.

The essence of the change is to split the monolithic error handler
into two components: one which handles a queue of ata commands for
processing and the other which handles the back end of readying a
port. This allows the upper error handler fine grained control in
calling libsas functions (and making sure they only get called for ATA
commands whose lower errors have been fixed up).

James Bottomley c34aeebc06 libata: fix eh locking
The SCSI host eh_cmd_q should be protected by the host lock (not the
port lock). This probably doesn't matter that much at the moment,
since we try to serialise the add and eh pieces, but it might matter
in future for more convenient error handling. Plus this switches
libata to the standard eh pattern where you lock, remove from the cmd
queue to a local list and unlock and then operate on the local list.

James Bottomley a29b5dad46 libata: fix locking for sas paths
For historical reasons, libsas uses the scsi host lock as the ata port
lock, and libata always uses the ata host. For the old eh, this was
largely irrelevant since the two locks were never mixed inside the
code. However, the new eh has a case where it nests acquisition of
the host lock inside the port lock (this does look rather deadlock
prone). Obviously this would be an instant deadlock if the port lock
were the host lock, so switch the libsas paths to use the ata host
lock as well.

The function ata_sas_port_init() has always really done its own thing.
However, as a precursor to moving to the libata new eh, it has to be

libsas and pieces which cant (really just the async call and the host
scan).

Tejun Heo eb0e85e36b libata: fix hotplug for drivers which don't implement LPM
ata_eh_analyze_serror() suppresses hotplug notifications if LPM is
being used because LPM generates spurious hotplug events. It compared
whether link->lpm_policy was different from ATA_LPM_MAX_POWER to
determine whether LPM is enabled; however, this is incorrect as for
drivers which don't implement LPM, lpm_policy is always
ATA_LPM_UNKNOWN. This disabled hotplug detection for all drivers
which don't implement LPM.

Fix it by comparing whether lpm_policy is greater than
ATA_LPM_MAX_POWER.

Tejun Heo 729a6a300e libata: set queue DMA alignment to sector size for ATAPI too
ata_pio_sectors() expects buffer for each sector to be contained in a
single page; otherwise, it ends up overrunning the first page. This
is achieved by setting queue DMA alignment. If sector_size is smaller
than PAGE_SIZE and all buffers are sector_size aligned, buffer for
each sector is always contained in a single page.

This wasn't applied to ATAPI devices but IDENTIFY_PACKET is executed
as ATA_PROT_PIO and thus uses ata_pio_sectors(). Newer versions of
udev issue IDENTIFY_PACKET with unaligned buffer triggering the
problem and causing oops.

This patch fixes the problem by setting sdev->sector_size to
ATA_SECT_SIZE on ATATPI devices and always setting DMA alignment to
sector_size. While at it, add a warning for the unlikely but still
possible scenario where sector_size is larger than PAGE_SIZE, in which
case the alignment wouldn't be enough.

David Rientjes 6a108a14fa kconfig: rename CONFIG_EMBEDDED to CONFIG_EXPERT
The meaning of CONFIG_EMBEDDED has long since been obsoleted; the option
is used to configure any non-standard kernel with a much larger scope than
only small devices.

This patch renames the option to CONFIG_EXPERT in init/Kconfig and fixes
references to the option throughout the kernel. A new CONFIG_EMBEDDED
option is added that automatically selects CONFIG_EXPERT when enabled and
can be used in the future to isolate options that should only be
considered for embedded systems (RISC architectures, SLOB, etc).

Calling the option "EXPERT" more accurately represents its intention: only
expert users who understand the impact of the configuration changes they
are making should enable it.

Nick Bowler 2ad2c320a1 pata_platform: Remove CONFIG_HAVE_PATA_PLATFORM's dependencies.
CONFIG_HAVE_PATA_PLATFORM, by virtue of where its defined, has a
dependency on CONFG_ATA and CONFIG_ATA_SFF. This causes Kconfig
warnings when it is selected by various architectures, such as

  warning: (ARCH_VEXPRESS && <choice> || ARCH_RPC && <choice> || MACH_VPAC270 && ARCH_PXA || MACH_REALVIEW_PB11MP && ARCH_REALVIEW || MACH_REALVIEW_PBA8 && ARCH_REALVIEW || MACH_REALVIEW_PBX && ARCH_REALVIEW || MACH_BAST_IDE && ARCH_S3C2410 || MACH_ANUBIS && ARCH_S3C2410) selects HAVE_PATA_PLATFORM which has unmet direct dependencies (ATA && ATA_SFF)

Since this option is only used to control visibility of the
CONFIG_PATA_PLATFORM option and isn't itself visible in the menu,
it is straightforward to simply remove these dependencies rather
than adjust all the architectures.

Sergei Shtylyov dfc7e3e37d pata_hpt3x2n: calculate average f_CNT
Allow hpt3x2n_pci_clock() to calculate the average f_CNT register value iff
HighPoint BIOS hasn't saved one, just like the 'pata_hpt37x' driver (reading
the full 16-bit register, unlike what that driver does), so that this driver
would work correctly on e.g. non-x86 machine with 66 MHz PCI.

I'm not sure why Alan has only done this in one driver and not the other...

Sergei Shtylyov 8e834c2e6d pata_hpt{37x|3x2n}: SATA mode filtering
The Marvell bridge chips used on HighPoint SATA cards do not seem to support
the UltraDMA modes 1, 2, and 3 as well as any MWDMA modes; these cards are
based on HPT372/372A/372N/374 chips (judging from the vendor drivers), so
the Linux drivers need to have a mode_filter() method for these chips...

Tejun Heo e5005b15c9 libata: issue DIPM enable commands with LPM state updated
Low level drivers may behave differently depending on the current
link->lpm_policy. During ata_eh_set_lpm(), DIPM enable commands are
issued after the successful completion of ap->ops->set_lpm(), which
means that the controller is already in the target state. This causes
DIPM enable commands to be processed with mismatching controller power
state and link->lpm_policy value.

In ahci, link->lpm_policy is used to ignore certain PHY events if LPM
is enabled; however, as DIPM commands are issued with stale
link->lpm_policy, they sometimes end up triggering these conditions
and get aborted leading to LPM configuration failure.

Fix it by updating link->lpm_policy before issuing DIPM enable
commands.

Tejun Heo f08dc1ac6b libata: no special completion processing for EH commands
ata_qc_complete() contains special handling for certain commands. For
example, it schedules EH for device revalidation after certain
configurations are changed. These shouldn't be applied to EH
commands but they were.

In most cases, it doesn't cause an actual problem because EH doesn't
issue any command which would trigger special handling; however, ACPI
can issue such commands via _GTF which can cause weird interactions.

Restructure ata_qc_complete() such that EH commands are always passed
on to __ata_qc_complete().
