Stafford Horne 706e71bed7 openrisc: Change toolchain from or32- to or1k-
The openrisc toolchain prefix changed a few years ago. No one
should be using this anylonger. This also saves from people
having to manually update or specify this every build.

Nicolas Dichtel fcc8487d47 uapi: export all headers under uapi directories
Regularly, when a new header is created in include/uapi/, the developer
forgets to add it in the corresponding Kbuild file. This error is usually
detected after the release is out.

In fact, all headers under uapi directories should be exported, thus it's
useless to have an exhaustive list.

After this patch, the following files, which were not exported, are now
exported (with make headers_install_all):

Kirill A. Shutemov 9849a5697d arch, mm: convert all architectures to use 5level-fixup.h
If an architecture uses 4level-fixup.h we don't need to do anything as
it includes 5level-fixup.h.

If an architecture uses pgtable-nop*d.h, define __ARCH_USE_5LEVEL_HACK
before inclusion of the header. It makes asm-generic code to use
5level-fixup.h.

If an architecture has 4-level paging or folds levels on its own,
include 5level-fixup.h directly.

Luis R. Rodriguez 7d134b2ce6 kprobes: move kprobe declarations to asm-generic/kprobes.h
Often all is needed is these small helpers, instead of compiler.h or a
full kprobes.h. This is important for asm helpers, in fact even some
asm/kprobes.h make use of these helpers... instead just keep a generic
asm file with helpers useful for asm code with the least amount of
clutter as possible.

Likewise we need now to also address what to do about this file for both
when architectures have CONFIG_HAVE_KPROBES, and when they do not. Then
for when architectures have CONFIG_HAVE_KPROBES but have disabled
CONFIG_KPROBES.

Right now most asm/kprobes.h do not have guards against CONFIG_KPROBES,
this means most architecture code cannot include asm/kprobes.h safely.
Correct this and add guards for architectures missing them.
Additionally provide architectures that not have kprobes support with
the default asm-generic solution. This lets us force asm/kprobes.h on
the header include/linux/kprobes.h always, but most importantly we can
now safely include just asm/kprobes.h on architecture code without
bringing the full kitchen sink of header files.

Two architectures already provided a guard against CONFIG_KPROBES on its
kprobes.h: sh, arch. The rest of the architectures needed gaurds added.
We avoid including any not-needed headers on asm/kprobes.h unless
kprobes have been enabled.

In a subsequent atomic change we can try now to remove compiler.h from
include/linux/kprobes.h.

During this sweep I've also identified a few architectures defining a
common macro needed for both kprobes and ftrace, that of the definition
of the breakput instruction up. Some refer to this as
BREAKPOINT_INSTRUCTION. This must be kept outside of the #ifdef
CONFIG_KPROBES guard.

Linus Torvalds ac1820fb28 This is a tree wide change and has been kept separate for that reason.
Bart Van Assche noted that the ib DMA mapping code was significantly
similar enough to the core DMA mapping code that with a few changes
it was possible to remove the IB DMA mapping code entirely and
switch the RDMA stack to use the core DMA mapping code. This resulted
in a nice set of cleanups, but touched the entire tree. This branch
will be submitted separately to Linus at the end of the merge window
as per normal practice for tree wide changes like this.

Stafford Horne a4d4426635 openrisc: head: Init r0 to 0 on start
Originally openrisc spec 0 specified that r0 would be wired to ground.
This is no longer the case. r0 is not guaranteed to be 0 at init, so we
need to initialize it to 0 before using it.

Also, if we are clearing r0 we cant use r0 to clear itself. Change the
the CLEAR_GPR macro to use movhi for clearing.

Stafford Horne e6d20c55a4 openrisc: entry: Fix delay slot detection
Use execption SR stored in pt_regs for detection, the current SR is not
correct as the handler is running after return from exception.

Also, The code that checks for a delay slot uses a flag bitmask and then
wants to check if the result is not zero. The test it implemented was
wrong.

Correct it by changing the test to check result against non zero.

Stafford Horne f5d45dc911 openrisc: Add optimized memcpy routine
The generic memcpy routine provided in kernel does only byte copies.
Using word copies we can lower boot time and cycles spend in memcpy
quite significantly.

Booting on my de0 nano I see boot times go from 7.2 to 5.6 seconds.
The avg cycles in memcpy during boot go from 6467 to 1887.

I tested several algorithms (see code in previous patch mails)

The implementations I tested and avg cycles:
  - Word Copies + Loop Unrolls + Non Aligned 1882
  - Word Copies + Loop Unrolls 1887
  - Word Copies 2441
  - Byte Copies + Loop Unrolls 6467
  - Byte Copies 7600

In the end I ended up going with Word Copies + Loop Unrolls as it
provides best tradeoff between simplicity and boot speedups.

Merge tag 'extable-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/paulg/linux

Pull exception table module split from Paul Gortmaker:
 "Final extable.h related changes.

This completes the separation of exception table content from the
module.h header file. This is achieved with the final commit that
removes the one line back compatible change that sourced extable.h
  into the module.h file.

The commits are unchanged since January, with the exception of a
couple Acks that came in for the last two commits a bit later. The
changes have been in linux-next for quite some time[1] and have got
widespread arch coverage via toolchains I have and also from
additional ones the kbuild bot has.

Maintaners of the various arch were Cc'd during the postings to
lkml[2] and informed that the intention was to take the remaining arch
specific changes and lump them together with the final two non-arch
specific changes and submit for this merge window.

The ia64 diffstat stands out and probably warrants a mention. In an
earlier review, Al Viro made a valid comment that the original header
separation of content left something to be desired, and that it get
fixed as a part of this change, hence the larger diffstat"

Frederic Weisbecker b672592f02 sched/cputime: Remove generic asm headers
cputime_t is now only used by two architectures:

	* powerpc (when CONFIG_VIRT_CPU_ACCOUNTING_NATIVE=y)
	* s390

And since the core doesn't use it anymore, we don't need any arch support
from the others. So we can remove their stub implementations.

A final cleanup would be to provide an efficient pure arch
implementation of cputime_to_nsec() for s390 and powerpc and finally
remove include/linux/cputime.h .

     primitives. (Peter Zijlstra)

   - Add vCPU preemption support: add an interface to query the
preemption status of vCPUs and use it in locking primitives - this
optimizes paravirt performance. (Pan Xinhui, Juergen Gross,
     Christian Borntraeger)

   - Introduce cpu_relax_yield() and remov cpu_relax_lowlatency() to
clean up and improve the s390 lock yielding machinery and its core
     kernel impact. (Christian Borntraeger)

   - Micro-optimize mutexes some more. (Waiman Long)

   - Reluctantly add the to-be-deprecated mutex_trylock_recursive()
interface on a temporary basis, to give the DRM code more time to
get rid of its locking hacks. Any other users will be NAK-ed on
sight. (We turned off the deprecation warning for the time being to
not pollute the build log.) (Peter Zijlstra)

   - Improve the rtmutex code a bit, in light of recent long lived
     bugs/races. (Thomas Gleixner)

   - Misc fixes, cleanups"

Stefan Kristiansson cdb75442fe openrisc: include l.swa in check for write data pagefault
During page fault handling we check the last instruction to understand
if the fault was for a read or for a write. By default we fall back to
read. New instructions were added to the openrisc 1.1 spec for an
atomic load/store pair (l.lwa/l.swa).

This patch adds the opcode for l.swa (0x33) allowing it to be treated as
a write operation.

Rob Herring 994894c3f7 openrisc: remove the redundant of_platform_populate
The of_platform_populate call in the openrisc arch code is now redundant
as the DT core provides a default call. Openrisc has a NULL match table
which means only top level nodes with compatible strings will have
devices creates. The default version will also descend nodes in the
match table such as "simple-bus" which should be fine as openrisc
doesn't have any of these (though it is preferred that memory-mapped
peripherals be grouped under a bus node(s)).

Jonas Bonn c79902190f openrisc: restore all regs on rt_sigreturn
Fix signal handling for when signals are handled as the result of timers
or exceptions, previous code assumed syscalls. This was noticeable with X
crashing where it uses SIGALRM.

This patch restores all regs before returning to userspace via
_resume_userspace instead of via syscall return path.

The rt_sigreturn syscall is more like a context switch than a function
call; it entails a return from one context (the signal handler) to another
(the process in question). For a context switch like this there are
effectively no call-saved regs that remain constant across the transition.

Stefan Kristiansson f47706099b openrisc: fix PTRS_PER_PGD define

Christian Borntraeger 79ab11cdb9 locking/core: Introduce cpu_relax_yield()
For spinning loops people do often use barrier() or cpu_relax().
For most architectures cpu_relax and barrier are the same, but on
some architectures cpu_relax can add some latency.
For example on power,sparc64 and arc, cpu_relax can shift the CPU
towards other hardware threads in an SMT environment.
On s390 cpu_relax does even more, it uses an hypercall to the
hypervisor to give up the timeslice.
In contrast to the SMT yielding this can result in larger latencies.
In some places this latency is unwanted, so another variant
"cpu_relax_lowlatency" was introduced. Before this is used in more
and more places, lets revert the logic and provide a cpu_relax_yield
that can be called in places where yielding is more important than
latency. By default this is the same as cpu_relax on all architectures.

Chris Metcalf 6727ad9e20 nmi_backtrace: generate one-line reports for idle cpus
When doing an nmi backtrace of many cores, most of which are idle, the
output is a little overwhelming and very uninformative. Suppress
messages for cpus that are idling when they are interrupted and just
emit one line, "NMI backtrace for N skipped: idling at pc 0xNNN".

We do this by grouping all the cpuidle code together into a new
.cpuidle.text section, and then checking the address of the interrupted
PC to see if it lies within that section.

This commit suitably tags x86 and tile idle routines, and only adds in
the minimal framework for other architectures.

Krzysztof Kozlowski 00085f1efa dma-mapping: use unsigned long for dma_attrs
The dma-mapping core and the implementations do not change the DMA
attributes passed by pointer. Thus the pointer can point to const data.
However the attributes do not have to be a bitfield. Instead unsigned
long will do fine:

1. This is just simpler. Both in terms of reading the code and setting
attributes. Instead of initializing local attributes on the stack
and passing pointer to it to dma_set_attr(), just set the bits.

2. It brings safeness and checking for const correctness because the
   attributes are passed by value.

Linus Torvalds 1cd04d293c This is the bulk of GPIO changes for the v4.8 kernel cycle.
Core changes:

 - The big item is of course the completion of the character
device ABI. It has now replaced and surpassed the former
unmaintainable sysfs ABI: we can now hammer (bitbang)
individual lines or sets of lines and read individual lines
or sets of lines from userspace, and we can also register
to listen to GPIO events from userspace. As a tie-in we
have two new tools in tools/gpio: gpio-hammer and
gpio-event-mon that illustrate the proper use of the new
ABI. As someone said: the wild west days of GPIO are now
   over.

 - Continued to remove the pointless
   ARCH_[WANT_OPTIONAL|REQUIRE]_GPIOLIB Kconfig symbols.
I'm patching hexagon, openrisc, powerpc, sh, unicore,
ia64 and microblaze. These are either ACKed by their
maintainers or patched anyways after a grace period and
no response from maintainers. Some archs (ARM) come in from
their trees, and others (x86) are still not fixed, so I
might send a second pull request to root it out later in
this merge window, or just defer to v4.9.

 - The GPIO tools are moved to the tools build system.

 New drivers:

 - New driver for the MAX77620/MAX20024.

 - New driver for the Intel Merrifield.

 - Enabled PCA953x for the TI PCA9536.

 - Enabled PCA953x for the Intel Edison.

 - Enabled R8A7792 in the RCAR driver.

 Driver improvements:

 - The STMPE and F7188x now supports the .get_direction()
   callback.

 - The Xilinx driver supports setting multiple lines at
   once.

 - ACPI support for the Vulcan GPIO controller.

 - The MMIO GPIO driver supports device tree probing.

 - The Acer One 10 is supported through the _DEP ACPI
   attribute.

 Cleanups:

 - A major cleanup of the OF/DT support code. It is way
easier to read and understand now, probably this improves
   performance too.

 - Drop a few redundant .owner assignments.

 - Remove CLPS711x boardfile support: we are 100% DT.

Merge tag 'gpio-v4.8-1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/linusw/linux-gpio

Pull GPIO updates from Linus Walleij:
"This is the bulk of GPIO changes for the v4.8 kernel cycle. The big
news is the completion of the chardev ABI which I'm very happy about
and apart from that it's an ordinary, quite busy cycle. The details

The patches are tested in linux-next for some time, patches to other

I got overly ambitious with configureing lines as input for IRQ lines

input-enabling in orthogonal settings so the assumption that all IRQ
lines are input lines does not hold. Oh well, revert and back to the

Michal Hocko 32d6bd9059 tree wide: get rid of __GFP_REPEAT for order-0 allocations part I
This is the third version of the patchset previously sent [1]. I have
basically only rebased it on top of 4.7-rc1 tree and dropped "dm: get
rid of superfluous gfp flags" which went through dm tree. I am sending
it now because it is tree wide and chances for conflicts are reduced
considerably when we want to target rc2. I plan to send the next step
and rename the flag and move to a better semantic later during this
release cycle so we will have a new semantic ready for 4.8 merge window
hopefully.

Motivation:

While working on something unrelated I've checked the current usage of
__GFP_REPEAT in the tree. It seems that a majority of the usage is and
always has been bogus because __GFP_REPEAT has always been about costly
high order allocations while we are using it for order-0 or very small
orders very often. It seems that a big pile of them is just a
copy&paste when a code has been adopted from one arch to another.

I think it makes some sense to get rid of them because they are just
making the semantic more unclear. Please note that GFP_REPEAT is
documented as

* __GFP_REPEAT: Try hard to allocate the memory, but the allocation attempt

* _might_ fail. This depends upon the particular VM implementation.
while !costly requests have basically nofail semantic. So one could
reasonably expect that order-0 request with __GFP_REPEAT will not loop
for ever. This is not implemented right now though.

I would like to move on with __GFP_REPEAT and define a better semantic
for it.

  $ git grep __GFP_REPEAT origin/master | wc -l
  111
  $ git grep __GFP_REPEAT | wc -l
  36

So we are down to the third after this patch series. The remaining
places really seem to be relying on __GFP_REPEAT due to large allocation
requests. This still needs some double checking which I will do later
after all the simple ones are sorted out.

I am touching a lot of arch specific code here and I hope I got it right
but as a matter of fact I even didn't compile test for some archs as I
do not have cross compiler for them. Patches should be quite trivial to
review for stupid compile mistakes though. The tricky parts are usually
hidden by macro definitions and thats where I would appreciate help from
arch maintainers.

[1] http://lkml.kernel.org/r/1461849846-27209-1-git-send-email-mhocko@kernel.org

This patch (of 19):

__GFP_REPEAT has a rather weak semantic but since it has been introduced
around 2.6.12 it has been ignored for low order allocations. Yet we
have the full kernel tree with its usage for apparently order-0
allocations. This is really confusing because __GFP_REPEAT is
explicitly documented to allow allocation failures which is a weaker
semantic than the current order-0 has (basically nofail).

Let's simply drop __GFP_REPEAT from those places. This would allow to
identify place which really need allocator to retry harder and formulate
a more specific semantic for what the flag is supposed to do actually.

Zhaoxiu Zeng fff7fb0b2d lib/GCD.c: use binary GCD algorithm instead of Euclidean
The binary GCD algorithm is based on the following facts:
	1. If a and b are all evens, then gcd(a,b) = 2 * gcd(a/2, b/2)
	2. If a is even and b is odd, then gcd(a,b) = gcd(a/2, b)
	3. If a and b are all odds, then gcd(a,b) = gcd((a-b)/2, b) = gcd((a+b)/2, b)

Even on x86 machines with reasonable division hardware, the binary
algorithm runs about 25% faster (80% the execution time) than the
division-based Euclidian algorithm.

On platforms like Alpha and ARMv6 where division is a function call to
emulation code, it's even more significant.

There are two variants of the code here, depending on whether a fast
__ffs (find least significant set bit) instruction is available. This
allows the unpredictable branches in the bit-at-a-time shifting loop to
be eliminated.

If fast __ffs is not available, the "even/odd" GCD variant is used.

I use the following code to benchmark:

	#include <stdio.h>
	#include <stdlib.h>
	#include <stdint.h>
	#include <string.h>

James Hogan b0da6d4415 asm-generic: Drop renameat syscall from default list
The newer renameat2 syscall provides all the functionality provided by
the renameat syscall and adds flags, so future architectures won't need
to include renameat.

Therefore drop the renameat syscall from the generic syscall list unless
__ARCH_WANT_RENAMEAT is defined by the architecture's unistd.h prior to
including asm-generic/unistd.h, and adjust all architectures using the
generic syscall list to define it so that no in-tree architectures are
affected.

Christoph Hellwig 452e06af1f dma-mapping: consolidate dma_set_mask
Almost everyone implements dma_set_mask the same way, although some time
that's hidden in ->set_dma_mask methods.

This patch consolidates those into a common implementation that either
calls ->set_dma_mask if present or otherwise uses the default
implementation. Some architectures used to only call ->set_dma_mask
after the initial checks, and those instance have been fixed to do the
full work. h8300 implemented dma_set_mask bogusly as a no-ops and has
been fixed.

Unfortunately some architectures overload unrelated semantics like changing
the dma_ops into it so we still need to allow for an architecture override
for now.

Christoph Hellwig ee196371d5 dma-mapping: consolidate dma_supported
Most architectures just call into ->dma_supported, but some also return 1
if the method is not present, or 0 if no dma ops are present (although
that should never happeb). Consolidate this more broad version into
common code.

Also fix h8300 which inorrectly always returned 0, which would have been
a problem if it's dma_set_mask implementation wasn't a similarly buggy
noop.

As a few architectures have much more elaborate implementations, we
still allow for arch overrides.

Christoph Hellwig 1e8937526e dma-mapping: consolidate dma_{alloc,free}_noncoherent
Most architectures do not support non-coherent allocations and either
define dma_{alloc,free}_noncoherent to their coherent versions or stub
them out.

Openrisc uses dma_{alloc,free}_attrs to implement them, and only Mips
implements them directly.

This patch moves the Openrisc version to common code, and handles the
DMA_ATTR_NON_CONSISTENT case in the mips dma_map_ops instance.

Note that actual non-coherent allocations require a dma_cache_sync
implementation, so if non-coherent allocations didn't work on
an architecture before this patch they still won't work after it.

Christoph Hellwig 6894258eda dma-mapping: consolidate dma_{alloc,free}_{attrs,coherent}
Since 2009 we have a nice asm-generic header implementing lots of DMA API
functions for architectures using struct dma_map_ops, but unfortunately
it's still missing a lot of APIs that all architectures still have to
duplicate.

This series consolidates the remaining functions, although we still need
arch opt outs for two of them as a few architectures have very
non-standard implementations.

This patch (of 5):

The coherent DMA allocator works the same over all architectures supporting
dma_map operations.

This patch consolidates them and converges the minor differences:

 - the debug_dma helpers are now called from all architectures, including
those that were previously missing them
 - dma_alloc_from_coherent and dma_release_from_coherent are now always
called from the generic alloc/free routines instead of the ops
dma-mapping-common.h always includes dma-coherent.h to get the defintions
for them, or the stubs if the architecture doesn't support this feature
 - checks for ->alloc / ->free presence are removed. There is only one
magic instead of dma_map_ops without them (mic_dma_ops) and that one
   is x86 only anyway.

Besides that only x86 needs special treatment to replace a default devices
if none is passed and tweak the gfp_flags. An optional arch hook is provided
for that.

Viresh Kumar 00c5a0acd1 openrisc/time: Migrate to new 'set-state' interface
Migrate openrisc driver to the new 'set-state' interface provided by
clockevents core, the earlier 'set-mode' interface is marked obsolete
now.

This also enables us to implement callbacks for new states of clockevent
devices, for example: ONESHOT_STOPPED.

We weren't doing anything in the ->set_mode() callback. So, this patch
doesn't provide any set-state callbacks.
