Vivien Didelot 6c1fe725fd hwmon: add Maxim MAX197 support
The MAX197 is an A/D converter, made by Maxim. This driver currently
supports the MAX197, and MAX199. They are both 8-Channel, Multi-Range,
5V, 12-Bit DAS with 8+4 Bus Interface and Fault Protection.

The available ranges for the MAX197 are {0,-5V} to 5V, and {0,-10V} to
10V, while they are {0,-2V} to 2V, and {0,-4V} to 4V on the MAX199.

Hartmut Knaack 983b97bed2 hwmon: Driver for ADT7410
This patch brings basic support for the Analog Devices ADT7410 temperature
sensor. The following functionality has been implemented:

  * get current temperature
  * get/set minimum, maximum and critical temperature
  * get/set hysteresis
  * get alarm events for minimum, maximum and critical temperature

All implemented sysfs attributes have been sucessfully tested at temperatures
of 15°C to 40°C.

Silas Boyd-Wickizer 641f145600 hwmon: (coretemp) Use get_online_cpus to avoid races involving CPU hotplug
coretemp_init loops with for_each_online_cpu, adding platform_devices
and sysfs interfaces, then calls register_hotcpu_notifier. There is a
race if a CPU is offlined or onlined after the loop, but before
register_hotcpu_notifier. The race might result in the absence of a
platform_device+sysfs interface for an online CPU, or the presence of
a platform_device+sysfs interface for an offline CPU. A similar race
occurs during coretemp_exit, after the module calls
unregister_hotcpu_notifier, but before it unregisters all devices, a
CPU might offline and a device for an offline CPU will exist for a
short while.

This fix surrounds for_each_online_cpu and register_hotcpu_notifier
with get_online_cpus+put_online_cpus; and surrounds
unregister_hotcpu_notifier and device unregistering with
get_online_cpus+put_online_cpus.

Build tested.

Guenter Roeck 080b98e9ab hwmon: (ina2xx) Fix word size register read and write operations
The driver uses be16_to_cpu and cpu_to_be16 to convert data in SMBus word
operations from chip to host byte order. However, the data passed from and to

Conversion should therefore use swab16 instead of be16 to change the byte order.

Replace driver internal word conversion functions with SMBus API functions to
solve the problem.

Henrik Rydberg 829917cd72 hwmon: (applesmc) Decode and act on read/write status codes
The behavior of the SMC has changed several times over the years,
causing read failures in the driver. It seems the problem can be
explained by a shift in SMC speed combined with improper action on
status codes.

We should first wait for the SMC to settle, which was the most
frequent response on the old slow machines. Then, if the SMC is busy,
we need to try again later by resending the command. This was the most
likely response until 2012. Now, with a shorter wait time, we are
again most likely to poll while the SMC is settling, and as a result
we see high failure rates on many old and new models.

With the distinction between busy and failure, we can also wait longer
before retrying, without sacrificing speed. This seems to bring
failures down to virtually zero on all models.

Henrik Rydberg b6e5122f09 hwmon: (applesmc) Allow negative temperature values
There are many userland reports of sensors with unreasonably small and
large temperatures. There seem to be several reasons for this:

Firstly, the major sensor type (sp78) is actually a signed number.
This explains why some sensors show very small or large values - they
are in fact all small, but of different sign.

Secondly, the other sensor type (1-hex) is not properly understood; it
may be that it is not a temperature after all.

Thirdly, some sensors are differential in nature, showing changes over
time rather than absolute numbers. This explains why those values are
small and of varying sign.

This patch interprets the sp78 type as signed short, but keeps the
original scaling. For other types, -EINVAL is returned, since the
nature of those sensors is unknown.

While this is a false positive, it is annoying in nightly builds, and may help
to conceal real problems. The current code is quite tricky, and and it is easy
to rearrage the code to make the warning disappear. So fix it.

Henrik Rydberg a332bf9a65 hwmon: (applesmc) Shorten minimum wait time
The 2012 series of MacBooks have a faster SMC, and the current driver
timings do not work at all. Tests show that decreasing the minimum
wait time, from 64 us to 16 us, works well. Since this is still larger
than the original minimum of 10 us used before 2008, there is nothing
inherently problematic with changing it. The fail frequency on older
machines seems to increase slightly, but not enough to be noticeable.

I no longer have a mailbox at smsc.com, and I've had two reports
that that email address now bounces from people trying to

This patch also updates the maintainer status to reflect

H. Peter Anvin 4ad3341130 x86, cpufeature: Rename X86_FEATURE_DTS to X86_FEATURE_DTHERM
It makes sense to label "Digital Thermal Sensor" as "DTS", but
unfortunately the string "dts" was already used for "Debug Store", and
/proc/cpuinfo is a user space ABI.

Therefore, rename this to "dtherm".

This conflict went into mainline via the hwmon tree without any x86

Guenter Roeck dbe43a6276 hwmon: (ntc_thermistor) Optimize and fix build warning
The following build warning is seen in some configurations:

drivers/hwmon/ntc_thermistor.c: In function 'ntc_show_temp':
drivers/hwmon/ntc_thermistor.c:293: warning: 'temp' may be used uninitialized in this function

Fix the problem by re-arranging the code to overload return values with error
codes, and by avoiding error returns whenever possible.

Specifically,

Simplify lookup_comp() to not return an error. Instead, return i_low == i_high
if there is an exact match, or if the ohm value is outside the lookup table
range.

Modify get_temp_mC() to not return an error. Since it only returns an error
after lookup_comp() returned an error, this is quite straightforward after above
change.

Separate ntc_thermistor_read() into a function to read the resistor value (which
can return an error), and the call to get_temp_mC() which doesn't. Call the
functions directly from ntc_show_temp().

Code was tested using a test program, comparing the result of the old and new
versions of get_temp_mC() for resistor values between 0 and 2,000,000 ohm.

As a side effect, this patch reduces code size by approximately 400 bytes on
x86_64.

Andre Przywara 00250ec909 hwmon: fam15h_power: fix bogus values with current BIOSes
Newer BKDG[1] versions recommend a different initialization value for
the running average range register in the northbridge. This improves
the power reading by avoiding counter saturations resulting in bogus
values for anything below about 80% of TDP power consumption.
Updated BIOSes will have this new value set up from the beginning,
but meanwhile we correct this value ourselves.
This needs to be done on all northbridges, even on those where the
driver itself does not register at.

This fixes the driver on all current machines to provide proper
values for idle load.

Hans de Goede 312869ec93 hwmon: (sch56xx) Add support for the integrated watchdog (v2)
Add support for the watchdog integrated into the SMSC SCH5627 and
SCH5636 superio-s. Since the watchdog is part of the hwmon logical device
and thus shares ioports with it, the watchdog driver is integrated into the
existing hwmon drivers for these.

Note that this version of the watchdog support for sch56xx superio-s
implements the watchdog chardev interface itself, rather then relying on
the recently added watchdog core / watchdog_dev. This is done because
currently some needed functionality is missing from watchdog_dev, as soon
as this functionality is added (which is being discussed on the
linux-watchdog mailinglist), I'll convert this driver over to using
watchdog_dev.

Guenter Roeck dd285ad737 hwmon: (pmbus) Simplify remove functions
Since devm_kzalloc() is now used to allocate driver memory, the client
driver remove function has no purpose other than to call pmbus_do_remove().
This means we can get rid of it by redefining pmbus_do_remove() to use the
same prototype, and pointing to it directly.
