Support for booting the iMX remoteprocs using MMIO, instead of SMCCC is
added. The iMX driver is also extended to support delivering interrupts
from an arbitrary number of vdev.
Support is added to the TI PRU driver, to allow GPMUX to be controlled
from DeviceTree.
The Qualcomm coredump collector is extended to fall back to generating a
full coredump, in the case that the loaded firmware doesn't support
generating minidump. The overly terse MD abbreviation of "MINIDUMP" is
expanded, to make the code easier on the eye.
The list of Qualcomm Sensor Low Power Island (SLPI) instances supported
is cleaned up, and SDM845 is added. SDM630/636/660 support for the modem
subsystem (mss) is added.
All the Qualcomm drivers are transitioned to of_reserved_mem_lookup()
instead of open coding the resolution of reserved-memory regions, to
gain handling of error cases. A couple of drivers are transitioned to
use devm_platform_ioremap_resource_byname().
The stm32 remoteproc driver's PM operations are updated to modern
macros, to avoid the "unused variable"-warning in some configurations.
Drivers are transitioned away from directly including of_device.h.

In this cycle, we don't have a highlighted feature enhancement, but mostly
have fixed issues mainly in two parts: 1) zoned block device, 2) compression
support. For zoned block device, we've tried to improve the power-off recovery
flow as much as possible. For compression, we found some corner cases caused by
wrong compression policy and logics. Other than them, there were some reverts
and stat corrections.
Bug fix:
- use finish zone command when closing a zone
- check zone type before sending async reset zone command
- fix to assign compress_level for lz4 correctly
- fix error path of f2fs_submit_page_read()
- don't {,de}compress non-full cluster
- send small discard commands during checkpoint back
- flush inode if atomic file is aborted
- correct to account gc/cp stats
And, there are minor bug fixes, avoiding false lockdep warning, and clean-ups.

# echo 'cpumask & CPUS{17-42}' > /sys/kernel/tracing/events/ipi_send_cpumask/filter
- Show actual size of ring buffer after modifying the ring buffer size via
buffer_size_kb. Currently it just returns what was written, but the actual
size rounds up to the sub buffer size. Show that real size instead.
Major changes:
- Added "eventfs". This is the code that handles the inodes and dentries of
tracefs/events directory. As there are thousands of events, and each event
has several inodes and dentries that currently exist even when tracing is
never used, they take up precious memory. Instead, eventfs will allocate
the inodes and dentries in a JIT way (similar to what procfs does). There
is now metadata that handles the events and subdirectories, and will create
the inodes and dentries when they are used.
Note, I also have patches that remove the subdirectory meta data, but will
wait till the next merge window before applying them. It's a little more
complex, and I want to make sure the dynamic code works properly before
adding more complexity, making it easier to revert if need be.
Minor changes:
- Optimization to user event list traversal.
- Remove intermediate permission of tracefs files (note the intermediate
permission removes all access to the files so it is not a security concern,
but just a clean up.)
- Add the complex fix to FORTIFY_SOURCE to the kernel stack event logic.
- Other minor clean ups.

The last bit of cleanups from Jiri and the tty structure size reduction
came in last week, a bit late but as they were just style changes and
size reductions, I figured they should get into this merge cycle so that
others can work on top of them with no merge conflicts.

I'm thrilled to announce that the Linux in-kernel NFS server now
offers NFSv4 write delegations. A write delegation enables a client
to cache data and metadata for a single file more aggressively,
reducing network round trips and server workload. Many thanks to Dai
Ngo for contributing this facility, and to Jeff Layton and Neil
Brown for reviewing and testing it.
This release also sees the removal of all support for DES- and
triple-DES-based Kerberos encryption types in the kernel's SunRPC
implementation. These encryption types have been deprecated by the
Internet community for years and are considered insecure. This
change affects both the in-kernel NFS client and server.
The server's UDP and TCP socket transports have now fully adopted
David Howells' new bio_vec iterator so that no more than one
sendmsg() call is needed to transmit each RPC message. In
particular, this helps kTLS optimize record boundaries when sending
RPC-with-TLS replies, and it takes the server a baby step closer to
handling file I/O via folios.
We've begun work on overhauling the SunRPC thread scheduler to
remove a costly linked-list walk when looking for an idle RPC
service thread to wake. The pre-requisites are included in this
release. Thanks to Neil Brown for his ongoing work on this
improvement.

Pull x86 shadow stack support from Dave Hansen:
"This is the long awaited x86 shadow stack support, part of Intel's
Control-flow Enforcement Technology (CET).
CET consists of two related security features: shadow stacks and
indirect branch tracking. This series implements just the shadow stack
part of this feature, and just for userspace.
The main use case for shadow stack is providing protection against
return oriented programming attacks. It works by maintaining a
secondary (shadow) stack using a special memory type that has
protections against modification. When executing a CALL instruction,
the processor pushes the return address to both the normal stack and
to the special permission shadow stack. Upon RET, the processor pops
the shadow stack copy and compares it to the normal stack copy.
For more information, refer to the links below for the earlier
versions of this patch set"

Make sv48 the default address space for mmap as some applications
currently depend on this assumption. Users can now select a
desired address space using a non-zero hint address to mmap. Previously,
requesting the default address space from mmap by passing zero as the hint
address would result in using the largest address space possible. Some
applications depend on empty bits in the virtual address space, like Go and
Java, so this patch provides more flexibility for application developers.

Chen Jiahao <chenjiahao16@huawei.com> says:
On riscv, the current crash kernel allocation logic is trying to
allocate within 32bit addressible memory region by default, if
failed, try to allocate without 4G restriction.
In need of saving DMA zone memory while allocating a relatively large
crash kernel region, allocating the reserved memory top down in
high memory, without overlapping the DMA zone, is a mature solution.
Hence this patchset introduces the parameter option crashkernel=X,[high, low].
One can reserve the crash kernel from high memory above DMA zone range
by explicitly passing "crashkernel=X,high"; or reserve a memory range
below 4G with "crashkernel=X,low". Besides, there are few rules need
to take notice:
1. "crashkernel=X,[high,low]" will be ignored if "crashkernel=size"
is specified.
2. "crashkernel=X,low" is valid only when "crashkernel=X,high" is passed
and there is enough memory to be allocated under 4G.
3. When allocating crashkernel above 4G and no "crashkernel=X,low" is
specified, a 128M low memory will be allocated automatically for
swiotlb bounce buffer.
See Documentation/admin-guide/kernel-parameters.txt for more information.
To verify loading the crashkernel, adapted kexec-tools is attached below:
https://github.com/chenjh005/kexec-tools/tree/build-test-riscv-v2
Following test cases have been performed as expected:
1) crashkernel=256M //low=256M
2) crashkernel=1G //low=1G
3) crashkernel=4G //high=4G, low=128M(default)
4) crashkernel=4G crashkernel=256M,high //high=4G, low=128M(default), high is ignored
5) crashkernel=4G crashkernel=256M,low //high=4G, low=128M(default), low is ignored
6) crashkernel=4G,high //high=4G, low=128M(default)
7) crashkernel=256M,low //low=0M, invalid
8) crashkernel=4G,high crashkernel=256M,low //high=4G, low=256M
9) crashkernel=4G,high crashkernel=4G,low //high=0M, low=0M, invalid

bit, but either way, nothing looks out of the ordinary here. The usual suspects
are chugging along adding support for more SoCs and fixing bugs.
If I had to choose, I'd say the theme for the past few months has been
"polish". There's quite a few patches that migrate to
devm_platform_ioremap_resource() in here. And there's more than a handful of
patches that move the NR_CLKS define from the DT binding header to the driver.
There's even patches that migrate drivers to use clk_parent_data and clk_hw to
describe clk tree topology. It seems that the spring (summer?) cleaning bug got
some folks, or the semiconductor shortage finally hit the software side.
New Drivers:
- StarFive JH7110 SoC clock drivers
- Qualcomm IPQ5018 Global Clock Controller driver
- Versa3 clk generator to support 48KHz playback/record with audio codec on
RZ/G2L SMARC EVK
Removed Drivers:
- Remove non-OF mmp clk drivers
- Remove OXNAS clk driver
Updates:

- Move defines for numbers of clks (NR_CLKS) from DT headers to drivers
- Introduce kstrdup_and_replace() and use it
- Add PLL rates for Rockchip rk3568
- Add the display clock tree for Rockchip rv1126
- Add Audio Clock Generator (ADG) clocks on Renesas R-Car Gen3 and RZ/G2 SoCs

- Fix function name in a comment in ccu_mmc_timing.c
- Parameter name correction for ccu_nkm_round_rate()
- Implement CLK_SET_RATE_PARENT for Allwinner NKM clocks, i.e. consider alternative
parent rates when determining clock rates

These are the devicetree updates for Arm and RISC-V based SoCs,
mainly from Qualcomm, NXP/Freescale, Aspeed, TI, Rockchips,
Samsung, ST and Starfive.
Only a few new SoC got added:
- TI AM62P5, a variant of the existing Sitara AM62x family
- Intel Agilex5, an FPGFA platform that includes an
Cortex-A76/A55 SoC.
- Qualcomm ipq5018 is used in wireless access points
- Qualcomm SM4450 (Snapdragon 4 Gen 2) is a new low-end mobile
phone platform.
In total, 29 machines get added, which is low because of the summer
break. These cover SoCs from Aspeed, Broadcom, NXP, Samsung, ST,
Allwinner, Amlogic, Intel, Qualcomm, Rockchip, TI and T-Head. Most of
these are development and reference boards.
Despite not adding a lot of new machines, there are over 700 patches in
total, most of which are cleanups and minor fixes.

The main change this time is the introduction of the drivers/genpd
subsystem that gets split out from drivers/soc to keep common
functionality together. Ulf Hansson is taking over maintainership for
these and is sending a separate pull request with the same commits,
but they are in the soc drivers tree to avoid conflicts against other
soc driver patches.
The SCMI driver subsystem gets an update to version 3.2 of the
specification. There are also updates to memory, reset and other firmware
drivers.
On the soc driver side, the updates are mostly cleanups across a number
of Arm platforms. On driver for loongarch adds power management for DT
based systems, another driver is for HiSilicon's Arm server chips with
their HCCS system health interface.
The remaining updates for the most part add support for additional
hardware in existing drivers or contain minor cleanups. Most of these
are for the Qualcomm Snapdragon platform.

We've received a fairly wide range of changes at this time, including
for ALSA and ASoC core, but all of them are rather small changes.
Here are some highlights:
ALSA / ASoC Core:
- Fixes of inconsistent locking around control API helpers
- A few new control API functions and cleanups
- Workarounds for potential UAFs by delayed kobj releases
- Unified PCM copy ops with iov_iter
- Continued efforts for ASoC API cleanups
ASoC:
- An adaptor to allow use of IIO DACs and ADCs in ASoC which pulls in
some IIO changes
- Create a library function for intlog10() and use it in the NAU8825
driver
- Convert drivers to use the more modern maple tree register cache
- Lots of work on the SOF framework, AMD and Intel drivers, including a
lot of cleanup and new device support
- Standardization of the presentation of jacks from drivers
- Provision of some generic sound card DT properties
- Support for AMD Van Gogh, AMD machines with MAX98388 and NAU8821,
AWInic AW88261, Cirrus Logic CS35L36 and CS42L43, various Intel
platforms including AVS machines with ES8336 and RT5663, Mediatek
MT7986, NXP i.MX93, RealTek RT1017 and StarFive JH7110
Others:
- New test coverage including ASoC and topology tests in KUnit;
this also involves enabling UML builds of ALSA since that's the
default KUnit test environment which pulls in the addition of some
stubs to the driver
- More enhancement of pcmtest driver
- A few fixes / enhancements of MIDI 2.0 UMP core
- Using PCI definitions in allover HD-audio code
- Support for Cirrus CS35L56 and TI TAS2781 HD-audio sub-codecs
- CS35L41 HD-audio sub-codec improvements
- Continued emu10k1 improvements

- With commit 099f26f22f ("integrity: machine keyring CA
configuration") certificates may be loaded onto the IMA keyring,
directly or indirectly signed by keys on either the "builtin" or the
"machine" keyrings.
With the ability for the system/machine owner to sign the IMA policy
itself without needing to recompile the kernel, update the IMA
architecture specific policy rules to require the IMA policy itself
be signed.
[ As commit 099f26f22f was upstreamed in linux-6.4, updating the
IMA architecture specific policy now to require signed IMA policies
may break userspace expectations. ]
- IMA only checked the file data hash was not on the system blacklist
