The K3 AM65x family of SoCs have the next generation of the PRU-ICSS
processor subsystem, commonly referred to as ICSSG. Each ICSSG processor
subsystem on AM65x SR1.0 contains two primary PRU cores and two new
auxiliary PRU cores called RTUs. The AM65x SR2.0 SoCs have a revised
ICSSG IP that is based off the subsequent IP revision used on J721E
SoCs. This IP instance has two new custom auxiliary PRU cores called
Transmit PRUs (Tx_PRUs) in addition to the existing PRUs and RTUs.
Each RTU and Tx_PRU cores have their own dedicated IRAM (smaller than
a PRU), Control and debug feature sets, but is different in terms of
sub-modules integrated around it and does not have the full capabilities
associated with a PRU core. The RTU core is typically used to aid a
PRU core in accelerating data transfers, while the Tx_PRU cores is
normally used to control the TX L2 FIFO if enabled in Ethernet
applications. Both can also be used to run independent applications.
The RTU and Tx_PRU cores though share the same Data RAMs as the PRU
cores, so the memories have to be partitioned carefully between different
applications. The new cores also support a new sub-module called Task
Manager to support two different context thread executions.
Enhance the existing PRU remoteproc driver to support these new PRU, RTU
and Tx PRU cores by using specific compatibles. The initial names for the
firmware images for each PRU core are retrieved from DT nodes, and can
be adjusted through sysfs if required.
The PRU remoteproc driver has to be specifically modified to use a
custom memcpy function within its ELF loader implementation for these
new cores in order to overcome a limitation with copying data into each
of the core's IRAM memories. These memory ports support only 4-byte
writes, and any sub-word order byte writes clear out the remaining
bytes other than the bytes being written within the containing word.
The default ARM64 memcpy also cannot be used as it throws an exception
when the preferred 8-byte copy operation is attempted. This choice is
made by using a state flag that is set only on K3 SoCs.

The remoteproc core creates certain standard debugfs entries,
that does not give a whole lot of useful information for the
PRUs. The PRU remoteproc driver is enhanced to add additional
debugfs entries for PRU. These will be auto-cleaned up when
the parent rproc debug directory is removed.
The enhanced debugfs support adds two new entries: 'regs' and
'single_step'. The 'regs' dumps out the useful CTRL sub-module
registers as well as each of the 32 GPREGs and CT_REGs registers.
The GPREGs and CT_REGs though are printed only when the PRU is
halted and accessible as per the IP design.
The 'single_step' utilizes the single-step execution of the PRU
cores. Writing a non-zero value performs a single step, and a
zero value restores the PRU to execute in the same mode as the
mode before the first single step. (note: if the PRU is halted
because of a halt instruction, then no change occurs).
Logic for setting the PC and jumping over a halt instruction shall
be added in the future.

The firmware blob can contain optional ELF sections: .resource_table
section and .pru_irq_map one. The second one contains the PRUSS
interrupt mapping description, which needs to be setup before powering
on the PRU core. To avoid RAM wastage this ELF section is not mapped to
any ELF segment (by the firmware linker) and therefore is not loaded to
PRU memory.
The PRU interrupt configuration is handled within the PRUSS INTC irqchip
driver and leverages the system events to interrupt channels and host
interrupts mapping configuration. Relevant irq routing information is
passed through a special .pru_irq_map ELF section (for interrupts routed
to and used by PRU cores) or via the PRU application's device tree node
(for interrupts routed to and used by the main CPU). The mappings are
currently programmed during the booting/shutdown of the PRU.
The interrupt configuration passed through .pru_irq_map ELF section is
optional. It varies on specific firmware functionality and therefore
have to be unwinded during PRU stop and performed again during
PRU start.

The Programmable Real-Time Unit Subsystem (PRUSS) consists of
dual 32-bit RISC cores (Programmable Real-Time Units, or PRUs)
for program execution. This patch adds a remoteproc platform
driver for managing the individual PRU RISC cores life cycle.
The PRUs do not have a unified address space (have an Instruction
RAM and a primary Data RAM at both 0x0). The PRU remoteproc driver
therefore uses a custom remoteproc core ELF loader ops. The added
.da_to_va ops is only used to provide translations for the PRU
Data RAMs. This remoteproc driver does not have support for error
recovery and system suspend/resume features. Different compatibles
are used to allow providing scalability for instance-specific device
data if needed. The driver uses a default firmware-name retrieved
from device-tree for each PRU core, and the firmwares are expected
to be present in the standard Linux firmware search paths. They can
also be adjusted by userspace if required through the sysfs interface
provided by the remoteproc core.
The PRU remoteproc driver uses a client-driven boot methodology: it
does _not_ support auto-boot so that the PRU load and boot is dictated
by the corresponding client drivers for achieving various usecases.
This allows flexibility for the client drivers or applications to set
a firmware name (if needed) based on their desired functionality and
boot the PRU. The sysfs bind and unbind attributes have also been
suppressed so that the PRU devices cannot be unbound and thereby
shutdown a PRU from underneath a PRU client driver.
The driver currently supports the AM335x, AM437x, AM57xx and 66AK2G
SoCs, and support for other TI SoCs will be added in subsequent
patches.

The J7200 SoCs have a revised R5FSS IP that adds a unique feature w.r.t
TCM sizing. Each R5F core in a cluster typically has 32 KB each of ATCM
and BTCM, with only the Core0 TCMs usable in LockStep mode. This revised
IP however doubles the total available TCM in LockStep mode by making the
Core1 TCM visible immediately after the corresponding Core0 TCM.
The R5F DT nodes on the J7200 SoCs define double (64 KB) the normal TCM
size (32 KB) for R5F Core0 for each of ATCM and BTCM to represent the
above. This increased TCM memory is only usable in LockStep-mode, and
has to be adjusted to the normal 32 KB size in Split mode. Enhance the
TI K3 R5F remoteproc for this logic through a new function. The adjustment
is a no-op on prior SoCs and relies on the correct DTS node sizes in

each. One cluster is present within the MCU voltage domain (MCU_R5FSS0),
while the other is present in the MAIN voltage domain (MAIN_R5FSS0).
The revised IP has the following two new features:
1. TCMs are auto-initialized during module power-up, and the behavior
is programmable through a MMR bit.
2. The LockStep-mode allows the Core1 TCMs to be combined with the
Core0 TCMs effectively doubling the amount of TCMs available.
The LockStep-mode on previous SoCs could only use the Core0 TCMs.
This combined TCMs appear contiguous at the respective Core0 TCM
addresses.

A new API, rproc_set_firmware() is added to allow the remoteproc platform
drivers and remoteproc client drivers to be able to configure a custom
firmware name that is different from the default name used during
remoteproc registration. This function is being introduced to provide
a kernel-level equivalent of the current sysfs interface to remoteproc
client drivers, and can only change firmwares when the remoteproc is

at runtime based on the functionality the remote processor is providing.
The TI PRU Ethernet driver will be an example of such usage as it
requires to use different firmwares for different supported protocols.

A graceful shutdown of the Qualcomm remote processors where
traditionally performed by invoking a shared memory state signal and
waiting for the associated ack.
This was later superseded by the "sysmon" mechanism, where some form of
shared memory bus is used to send a "graceful shutdown request" message
and one of more signals comes back to indicate its success.
But when this newer mechanism is in effect the firmware is shut down by
the time the older mechanism, implemented in the remoteproc drivers,
attempts to perform a graceful shutdown - and as such it will never
receive an ack back.
This patch therefor track the success of the latest shutdown attempt in
sysmon and exposes a new function in the API that the remoteproc driver
can use to query the success and the necessity of invoking the older
mechanism.

Further more the advertisement of the state of other remote processor to

Address this by introducing state tracking within the sysmon instances

So far we have been doing all proxy votes by voting for raw voltages/load
through the regulator interface. But actually VDDCX and VDDMX represent
power domains that should be preferably managed using corner votes
through the power domain interface.
Looking closer the code was actually never doing the proxy votes
correctly: The vddcx regulator is specified as:
{ "vddcx", .super_turbo = true },
which is supposed to say that we should vote for the maximum corner
of the VDDCX power domain. But actually "super_turbo" is unused so
all we did so far is to enable the power domain. We did not vote for
it to scale to the maximum performance state.
Using them through the power domain interface allows voting for the
maximum performance state. However, we still need to support using
them through the regulator interface for old device trees.
The way this is implemented here is that we check if attaching the
two power domain succeeds. If yes, we skip the first "num_pd_vregs"
regulators in the "vregs" list and only request the remaining ones.

Newer platforms vote for necessary power domains through the power
domain subsystem. For historical reasons older platforms like MSM8916
or MSM8974 still control these as regulators.
Managing them as power domains is preferred since that allows us
to vote for corners instead of raw voltages.
Make it possible for MSM8916 and MSM8974 to manage these as power
domains. For compatibility with old device trees we still need to
support falling back to the regulators when necessary.
The way this is implemented here is that the deprecated regulators
are defined as "fallback_proxy_supply". Only if attaching the power
domains fails because they are not specified (-ENODATA) we request
and manage the fallback regulators instead.

The K3 SoCs has various internal on-chip SRAM memories like the SRAM
within the MCU domain or the shared MSMC RAM within NavSS that can be
used for multiple purposes. One such purpose is to have the R5F cores
use a portion of such on-chip SRAM for fast-access data or to directly
execute code.
Add support to the K3 R5 remoteproc driver to parse and support
loading into such memories. The SRAM regions need to be mapped as
normal non-cacheable memory to avoid kernel crashes when the remoteproc
loader code uses the Arm64 memset library function (the "DC ZVA"
instruction throws a alignment fault on device type memory).
These SRAM regions are completely optional as not all firmware images
require these memories, and any such memory has to be reserved as such
in the DTS files.

The R5F processors on K3 SoCs all have two TCMs (ATCM and BTCM) that
support 32-bit ECC. The TCMs are typically loaded with some boot-up
code to initialize the R5 MPUs to further execute code out of DDR.
The ECC for the TCMs is enabled by default on K3 SoCs due to internal
default tie-off values, but the TCM memories are not initialized on
device power up. Any read access without the corresponding TCM memory
location initialized will generate an ECC error, and any such access
from a A72 or A53 core will trigger a SError.
So, zero initialize both the TCM memories before loading any firmware
onto a R5F in remoteproc mode. Any R5F booted from U-Boot/SPL would
require a similar initialization in the bootloader. Note that both
the TCMs are initialized unconditionally as the TCM enable config bits
only manage the access and visibility from R5.

The TI K3 family of SoCs typically have one or more dual-core Arm Cortex
R5F processor clusters/subsystems (R5FSS). This R5F subsystem/cluster
can be configured at boot time to be either run in a LockStep mode or in
an Asymmetric Multi Processing (AMP) fashion in Split-mode. This subsystem
has 64 KB each Tightly-Coupled Memory (TCM) internal memories for each
core split between two banks - TCMA and TCMB (further interleaved into
two banks). The subsystem does not have an MMU, but has a Region Address
Translater (RAT) module that is accessible only from the R5Fs for providing
translations between 32-bit CPU addresses into larger system bus addresses.
Add a remoteproc driver to support this subsystem to be able to load and
boot the R5F cores primarily in LockStep mode. The code also includes the
base support for Split mode. Error Recovery and Power Management features
are not currently supported. Loading support includes the internal TCMs
and DDR. RAT support is left for a future patch, and as such the reserved
memory carveout regions are all expected to be using memory regions within
the first 2 GB.
The R5F remote processors do not have an MMU, and so require fixed memory
carveout regions matching the firmware image addresses. Support for this
is provided by mandating multiple memory regions to be attached to the
remoteproc device. The first memory region will be used to serve as the
DMA pool for all dynamic allocations like the vrings and vring buffers.
The remaining memory regions are mapped into the kernel at device probe
time, and are used to provide address translations for firmware image
segments without the need for any RSC_CARVEOUT entries. Any firmware
image using memory outside of the supplied reserved memory carveout
regions will be errored out.
The R5F processors on TI K3 SoCs require a specific sequence for booting
and shutting down the processors. This sequence is also dependent on the
mode (LockStep or Split) the R5F cluster is configured for. The R5F cores
have a Memory Protection Unit (MPU) that has a default configuration that
does not allow the cores to run out of DDR out of reset. This is resolved
by using the TCMs for boot-strapping code that applies the appropriate
executable permissions on desired DDR memory. The loading into the TCMs
requires that the resets be released first with the cores in halted state.
The Power Sleep Controller (PSC) module on K3 SoCs requires that the cores
be in WFI/WFE states with no active bus transactions before the cores can
be put back into reset. Support for this is provided by using the newly
introduced .prepare() and .unprepare() ops in the remoteproc core. The
.prepare() ops is invoked before any loading, and the .unprepare() ops
is invoked after the remoteproc resource cleanup. The R5F core resets
are deasserted in .prepare() and asserted in .unprepare(), and the cores
themselves are started and halted in .start() and .stop() ops. This
ensures symmetric usage and allows the R5F cores state machine to be
maintained properly between using the sysfs 'state' variable, bind/unbind
and regular module load/unload flows.
The subsystem is represented as a single remoteproc in LockStep mode, and
as two remoteprocs in Split mode. The driver uses various TI-SCI interfaces
to talk to the System Controller (DMSC) for managing configuration, power
and reset management of these cores. IPC between the A53 cores and the R5
cores is supported through the virtio rpmsg stack using shared memory and
OMAP Mailboxes.
The AM65x SoCs typically have a single R5FSS in the MCU voltage domain. The
J721E SoCs uses a slightly revised IP and typically have three R5FSSs, with
one cluster present within the MCU voltage domain (MCU_R5FSS0), and the
remaining two clusters present in the MAIN voltage domain (MAIN_R5FSS0 and
MAIN_R5FSS1). The integration of these clusters on J721E SoC is also
slightly different in that these IPs do support an actual local reset line,
while they are a no-op on AM65x SoCs.

The new field 'dma_range_map' in struct device is used to facilitate the
use of single or multiple offsets between mapping regions of cpu addrs and
dma addrs. It subsumes the role of "dev->dma_pfn_offset" which was only
capable of holding a single uniform offset and had no region bounds
checking.
The function of_dma_get_range() has been modified so that it takes a single
argument -- the device node -- and returns a map, NULL, or an error code.
The map is an array that holds the information regarding the DMA regions.
Each range entry contains the address offset, the cpu_start address, the
dma_start address, and the size of the region.
of_dma_configure() is the typical manner to set range offsets but there are
a number of ad hoc assignments to "dev->dma_pfn_offset" in the kernel
driver code. These cases now invoke the function
dma_direct_set_offset(dev, cpu_addr, dma_addr, size).

This introduces a new "detached" state for remote processors that are
deemed to be running at the time Linux boots and the infrastructure for

operation for the STM32 platform.
The coredump functionality is moved out from the core file and gains

notification from devcoredump that the dump should be released. This
allows userspace to grab the coredump in scenarios where vmalloc space
is too low for creating a complete copy of the coredump before handing
this to devcoredump.
A new character device based interface is introduced to allow tying the
stoppage of a remote processor to the termination of a user space
process. This is useful in situations when such process provides crucial
resources/operations for the firmware running on the remote processor.
The Texas Instrument K3 driver gains support for the C66x and C71x DSPs.
Qualcomm remoteprocs gains support for stashing relocation information
in IMEM, to aid post mortem debugging and the crash notification
mechanism is generalized to be reusable in cases where loosely coupled
drivers needs to know about the status of a remote processor. One such
example is the IPA hardware block, which is jointly owned with the
modem and migrated to this improved interface.
It also introduces a number of bug fixes and debug improvements for the
Qualcomm modem remoteproc driver.
And it cleans up the inconsistent interface for remoteproc drivers to

The Texas Instrument's K3 J721E SoCs have a newer next-generation
C71x DSP Subsystem in the MAIN voltage domain in addition to the
previous generation C66x DSP subsystems. The C71x DSP subsystem is
based on the TMS320C71x DSP CorePac module. The C71x CPU is a true
64-bit machine including 64-bit memory addressing and single-cycle
64-bit base arithmetic operations and supports vector signal processing
providing a significant lift in DSP processing power over C66x DSPs.
J721E SoCs use a C711 (a one-core 512-bit vector width CPU core) DSP
that is cache coherent with the A72 Arm cores.
Each subsystem has one or more Fixed/Floating-Point DSP CPUs, with 32 KB
of L1P Cache, 48 KB of L1D SRAM that can be configured and partitioned as
either RAM and/or Cache, and 512 KB of L2 SRAM configurable as either RAM
and/or Cache. The CorePac also includes a Matrix Multiplication Accelerator
(MMA), a Stream Engine (SE) and a C71x Memory Management Unit (CMMU), an
Interrupt Controller (INTC) and a Powerdown Management Unit (PMU) modules.
Update the existing K3 DSP remoteproc driver to add support for this C71x
DSP subsystem. The firmware loading support is provided by using the newly
added 64-bit ELF loader support, and is limited to images using only
external DDR memory at the moment. The L1D and L2 SRAMs are used as scratch
memory when using as RAMs, and cannot be used for loadable segments. The
CMMU is also not supported to begin with, and the driver is designed to
treat the MMU as if it is in bypass mode.

The resets for the DSP processors on K3 SoCs are managed through the
Power and Sleep Controller (PSC) module. Each DSP typically has two
resets - a global module reset for powering on the device, and a local
reset that affects only the CPU while allowing access to the other
sub-modules within the DSP processor sub-systems.
The C66x DSPs have two levels of internal RAMs that can be used to
boot from, and the firmware loading into these RAMs require the
local reset to be asserted with the device powered on/enabled using
the module reset. Enhance the K3 DSP remoteproc driver to add support
for loading into the internal RAMs. The local reset is deasserted on
SoC power-on-reset, so logic has to be added in probe in remoteproc
mode to balance the remoteproc state-machine.
Note that the local resets are a no-op on C71x cores, and the hardware
does not supporting loading into its internal RAMs.

segments without the need for any RSC_CARVEOUT entries. Any firmware
image using memory outside of the supplied reserved memory carveout
regions will be errored out.
The driver uses various TI-SCI interfaces to talk to the System Controller
(DMSC) for managing configuration, power and reset management of these
cores. IPC between the A72 cores and the DSP cores is supported through
the virtio rpmsg stack using shared memory and OMAP Mailboxes.

Texas Instruments' K3 generation SoCs have specific modules/register
spaces used for configuring the various aspects of a remote processor.
These include power, reset, boot vector and other configuration features
specific to each compute processor present on the SoC. These registers
are managed by the System Controller such as DMSC on K3 AM65x SoCs.
The Texas Instrument's System Control Interface (TI-SCI) Message Protocol
is used to communicate to the System Controller from various compute
processors to invoke specific services provided by the firmware running
on the System Controller.
Add a common processor control interface header file that can be used by
multiple remoteproc drivers. The helper functions within this header file
abstract the various TI SCI protocol ops for the remoteproc drivers, and
allow them to request the System Controller to be able to program and
manage various remote processors on the SoC. The remoteproc drivers are
expected to manage the life-cycle of their ti_sci_proc_dev local
structures.

as the firmware size sometimes is in tens of MBs. The situation
becomes worse if there are multiple remote processors undergoing

Currently there is a single notification chain which is called whenever any
remoteproc shuts down. This leads to all the listeners being notified, and
is not an optimal design as kernel drivers might only be interested in
listening to notifications from a particular remoteproc. Create a global
list of remoteproc notification info data structures. This will hold the
name and notifier_list information for a particular remoteproc. The API
to register for notifications will use name argument to retrieve the
notification info data structure and the notifier block will be added to
that data structure's notification chain. Also move from blocking notifier
to srcu notifer based implementation to support dynamic notifier head
creation.

Removing PM runtime operations from the remoteproc core in order to:
1) Keep all power management operations in platform drivers. That way we
do not loose flexibility in an area that is very HW specific.
2) Avoid making the support for remote processor managed by external
entities more complex that it already is.
3) Fix regression introduced for the Omap remoteproc driver.

The header file linux/uio.h includes crypto/hash.h which pulls in
most of the Crypto API. Since linux/uio.h is used throughout the
kernel this means that every tiny bit of change to the Crypto API
causes the entire kernel to get rebuilt.
This patch fixes this by moving it into lib/iov_iter.c instead
where it is actually used.
This patch also fixes the ifdef to use CRYPTO_HASH instead of just
CRYPTO which does not guarantee the existence of ahash.
Unfortunately a number of drivers were relying on linux/uio.h to
provide access to linux/slab.h. This patch adds inclusions of
linux/slab.h as detected by build failures.
Also skbuff.h was relying on this to provide a declaration for
ahash_request. This patch adds a forward declaration instead.

control, enables remoteproc drivers to specify ELF class and machine for
coredumps. It integrates pm_runtime in the core for keeping resources
active while the remote is booted and holds a wake source while
recoverying a remote processor after a firmware crash.
It refactors the remoteproc device's allocation path to simplify the
logic, fix a few cleanup bugs and to not clone const strings onto the
heap. Debugfs code is simplifies using the DEFINE_SHOW_ATTRIBUTE and a
zero-length array is replaced with flexible-array.
A new remoteproc driver for the JZ47xx VPU is introduced, the Qualcomm
SM8250 gains support for audio, compute and sensor remoteprocs and the
Qualcomm SC7180 modem support is cleaned up and improved.
The Qualcomm glink subsystem-restart driver is merged into the main

The commit 086d08725d ("remoteproc: create vdev subdevice with specific
dma memory pool") has introduced a new vdev subdevice for each vdev
declared in the firmware resource table and made it as the parent for the
created virtio rpmsg devices instead of the previous remoteproc device.
This changed the overall parenting hierarchy for the rpmsg devices, which
were children of virtio devices, and does not allow the corresponding
rpmsg drivers to retrieve the parent rproc device through the
rproc_get_by_child() API.
Fix this by restoring the remoteproc device as the parent. The new vdev
subdevice can continue to inherit the DMA attributes from the remoteproc's
parent device (actual platform device).

In some cases, like with OMAP remoteproc, we are not creating dedicated
memory pool for the virtio device. Instead, we use the same memory pool
for all shared memories. The current virtio memory pool handling forces
a split between these two, as a separate device is created for it,
causing memory to be allocated from bad location if the dedicated pool
is not available. Fix this by falling back to using the parent device
memory pool if dedicated is not available.

The current name field used in the remoteproc structure is simply
a pointer to a name field supplied during the rproc_alloc() call.
The pointer passed in by remoteproc drivers during registration is
typically a dev_name pointer, but it is possible that the pointer
will no longer remain valid if the devices themselves were created
at runtime like in the case of of_platform_populate(), and were
deleted upon any failures within the respective remoteproc driver
probe function.
So, allocate and maintain a local copy for this name field to
keep it agnostic of the logic used in the remoteproc drivers.

Clients/services running on a remoteproc that booted up might need to be
aware of the state of already running remoteprocs. When a remoteproc boots
up (fresh or after recovery) it is not aware of the remoteprocs that booted
before it, i.e., the system state is incomplete. So to keep track of it we
send sysmon on behalf of all 'ONLINE' remoteprocs.

Current implementation of the sysmon driver does not support adding
notifications for other remoteproc events - prepare, start, unprepare.
Clients on the remoteproc side might be interested in knowing when a
remoteproc boots up. This change adds the ability to send the notification
type along with the name. For example, audio DSP is interested in knowing
when modem has crashed so that it can perform cleanup and wait for modem to
boot up before it starts processing data again.

Remote processors can be stuck in a loop, and may not be recoverable
if they do not have a built-in watchdog. The watchdog implementation
for OMAP remote processors uses external gptimers that can be used
to interrupt both the Linux host as well as the remote processor.
Each remote processor is responsible for refreshing the timer during
normal behavior - during OS task scheduling or entering the idle loop
properly. During a watchdog condition (executing a tight loop causing
no scheduling), the host processor gets interrupts and schedules a
recovery for the corresponding remote processor. The remote processor
may also get interrupted to be able to print a back trace.
A menuconfig option has also been added to enable/disable the Watchdog
functionality, with the default as disabled.

This patch enhances the PM support in the OMAP remoteproc driver to
support the runtime auto-suspend. A remoteproc may not be required to
be running all the time, and typically will need to be active only
during certain usecases. As such, to save power, it should be turned
off during potential long periods of inactivity between usecases.
This suspend and resume of the device is a relatively heavy process
in terms of latencies, so a remoteproc should be suspended only after
a certain period of prolonged inactivity. The OMAP remoteproc driver
leverages the runtime pm framework's auto_suspend feature to accomplish
this functionality. This feature is automatically enabled when a remote
processor has successfully booted. The 'autosuspend_delay_ms' for each
device dictates the inactivity period/time to wait for before
suspending the device.
The runtime auto-suspend design relies on marking the last busy time
on every communication (virtqueue kick) to and from the remote processor.
When there has been no activity for 'autosuspend_delay_ms' time, the
runtime PM framework invokes the driver's runtime pm suspend callback
to suspend the device. The remote processor will be woken up on the
initiation of the next communication message through the runtime pm
resume callback. The current auto-suspend design also allows a remote
processor to deny a auto-suspend attempt, if it wishes to, by sending a
NACK response to the initial suspend request message sent to the remote
processor as part of the suspend process. The auto-suspend request is
also only attempted if the remote processor is idled and in standby at
the time of inactivity timer expiry. This choice is made to avoid
unnecessary messaging, and the auto-suspend is simply rescheduled to
be attempted again after a further lapse of autosuspend_delay_ms.
The runtime pm callbacks functionality in this patch reuses most of the
core logic from the suspend/resume support code, and make use of an
additional auto_suspend flag to differentiate the logic in common code
from system suspend. The system suspend/resume sequences are also updated
to reflect the proper pm_runtime statuses, and also to really perform a
suspend/resume only if the remoteproc has not been auto-suspended at the
time of request. The remote processor is left in suspended state on a
system resume if it has been auto-suspended before, and will be woken up
only when a usecase needs to run.
The OMAP remoteproc driver currently uses a default value of 10 seconds
for all OMAP remoteprocs, and a different value can be chosen either by
choosing a positive value for the 'ti,autosuspend-delay-ms' under DT or
by updating the 'autosuspend_delay_ms' field at runtime through the
sysfs interface. A negative value is equivalent to disabling the runtime
suspend.
Eg: To use 25 seconds for IPU2 on DRA7xx,
echo 25000 > /sys/bus/platform/devices/55020000.ipu/power/autosuspend_delay_ms
The runtime suspend feature can also be similarly enabled or disabled by
writing 'auto' or 'on' to the device's 'control' power field. The default
is enabled.
Eg: To disable auto-suspend for IPU2 on DRA7xx SoC,
echo on > /sys/bus/platform/devices/55020000.ipu/power/control

This patch adds the support for system suspend/resume to the
OMAP remoteproc driver so that the OMAP remoteproc devices can
be suspended/resumed during a system suspend/resume. The support
is added through the driver PM .suspend/.resume callbacks, and
requires appropriate support from the OS running on the remote
processors.
The IPU & DSP remote processors typically have their own private
modules like registers, internal memories, caches etc. The context
of these modules need to be saved and restored properly for a
suspend/resume to work. These are in general not accessible from
the MPU, so the remote processors themselves have to implement
the logic for the context save & restore of these modules.
The OMAP remoteproc driver initiates a suspend by sending a mailbox
message requesting the remote processor to save its context and
enter into an idle/standby state. The remote processor should
usually stop whatever processing it is doing to switch to a context
save mode. The OMAP remoteproc driver detects the completion of
the context save by checking the module standby status for the
remoteproc device. It also stops any resources used by the remote
processors like the timers. The timers need to be running only
when the processor is active and executing, and need to be stopped
otherwise to allow the timer driver to reach low-power states. The
IOMMUs are automatically suspended by the PM core during the late
suspend stage, after the remoteproc suspend process is completed by
putting the remote processor cores into reset. Thereafter, the Linux
kernel can put the domain into further lower power states as possible.
The resume sequence undoes the operations performed in the PM suspend
callback, by starting the timers and finally releasing the processors
from reset. This requires that the remote processor side OS be able to
distinguish a power-resume boot from a power-on/cold boot, restore the
context of its private modules saved during the suspend phase, and
resume executing code from where it was suspended. The IOMMUs would
have been resumed by the PM core during early resume, so they are
already enabled by the time remoteproc resume callback gets invoked.
The remote processors should save their context into System RAM (DDR),
as any internal memories are not guaranteed to retain context as it
depends on the lowest power domain that the remote processor device
is put into. The management of the DDR contents will be managed by
the Linux kernel.

The remote processors in OMAP4+ SoCs are equipped with internal
timers, like the internal SysTick timer in a Cortex M3/M4 NVIC or
the CTM timer within Unicache in IPU & DSP. However, these timers
are gated when the processor subsystem clock is gated, making
them rather difficult to use as OS tick sources. They will not
be able to wakeup the processor from any processor-sleep induced
clock-gating states.
This can be avoided by using an external timer as the tick source,
which can be controlled independently by the OMAP remoteproc
driver code, but still allowing the processor subsystem clock to
be auto-gated when the remoteproc cores are idle.
This patch adds the support for OMAP remote processors to request
timer(s) to be used by the remoteproc. The timers are enabled and
disabled in line with the enabling/disabling of the remoteproc.
The timer data is not mandatory if the advanced device management
features are not required.
The core timer functionality is provided by the OMAP DMTimer
clocksource driver, which does not export any API. The logic is
implemented through the timer device's platform data ops. The OMAP
remoteproc driver mainly requires ops to request/free a dmtimer,
and to start/stop a timer. The split ops helps in controlling the
timer state without having to request and release a timer everytime
it needs to use the timer.
NOTE: If the gptimer is already in use by the time IPU and/or
DSP are loaded, the processors will fail to boot.

DRA7xx/AM57xx SoCs have two IPU and up to two DSP processor subsystems
for offloading different computation algorithms. The IPU processor
subsystem contains dual-core ARM Cortex-M4 processors, and is very
similar to those on OMAP5. The DSP processor subsystem is based on
the TI's standard TMS320C66x DSP CorePac core.
Support has been added to the OMAP remoteproc driver through new
DRA7xx specific compatibles for properly probing and booting all
the different processor subsystem instances on DRA7xx/AM57xx
SoCs - IPU1, IPU2, DSP1 & DSP2. A build dependency with SOC_DRA7XX
is added to enable the driver to be built in DRA7xx-only configuration.
The DSP boot address programming needed enhancement for DRA7xx as the
boot register fields are different on DRA7 compared to OMAP4 and OMAP5
SoCs. The register on DRA7xx contains additional fields within the
register and the boot address bit-field is right-shifted by 10 bits.
The internal memory parsing logic has also been updated to compute
the device addresses for the L2 RAM for DSP devices using relative
addressing logic, and to parse two additional RAMs at L1 level - L1P
and L1D. This allows the remoteproc driver to support loading into
these regions for a small subset of firmware images requiring as
such. The most common usage would be to use the L1 programmable
RAMs as L1 Caches.
The firmware lookup logic also has to be adjusted for DRA7xx as
there are (can be) more than one instance of both the IPU and DSP
remote processors for the first time in OMAP4+ SoCs.

The reserved memory nodes are not assigned to platform devices by
default in the driver core to avoid the lookup for every platform
device and incur a penalty as the real users are expected to be
only a few devices.
OMAP remoteproc devices fall into the above category and the OMAP
remoteproc driver _requires_ specific CMA pools to be assigned
for each device at the moment to align on the location of the
vrings and vring buffers in the RTOS-side firmware images. So,
use the of_reserved_mem_device_init/release() API appropriately
to assign the corresponding reserved memory region to the OMAP
remoteproc device. Note that only one region per device is

An implementation for the rproc ops .da_to_va() has been added
that provides the address translation between device addresses

IPUs are expected to have the L2RAM at a fixed device address of

The DSP remote processors on OMAP SoCs require a boot register to
be programmed with a boot address, and this boot address needs to
be on a 1KB boundary. The current code is simply masking the boot
address appropriately without performing any sanity checks before
releasing the resets. An unaligned boot address results in an
undefined execution behavior and can result in various bus errors
like MMU Faults or L3 NoC errors. Such errors are hard to debug and
can be easily avoided by adding a sanity check for the alignment

OMAP4+ SoCs support device tree boot only. The OMAP remoteproc
driver is enhanced to support remoteproc devices created through
Device Tree, support for legacy platform devices has been
deprecated. The current DT support handles the IPU and DSP
processor subsystems on OMAP4 and OMAP5 SoCs.
The OMAP remoteproc driver relies on the ti-sysc, reset, and
syscon layers for performing clock, reset and boot vector
management (DSP remoteprocs only) of the devices, but some of
these are limited only to the machine-specific layers
in arch/arm. The dependency against control module API for boot
vector management of the DSP remoteprocs has now been removed
with added logic to parse the boot register from the DT node
and program it appropriately directly within the driver.
The OMAP remoteproc driver expects the firmware names to be
provided via device tree entries (firmware-name.) These are used
to load the proper firmware during boot of the remote processor.

Two places call rproc_trigger_recovery():
- rproc_crash_handler_work() sets rproc->state to CRASHED under
protection of the mutex, then calls it if recovery is not
disabled. This function is called in workqueue context when
scheduled in rproc_report_crash().
- rproc_recovery_write() calls it in two spots, both of which
the only call it if the rproc->state is CRASHED.
The mutex is taken right away in rproc_trigger_recovery(). However,
by the time the mutex is acquired, something else might have changed
rproc->state to something other than CRASHED.
The work that follows that is only appropriate for a remoteproc in
CRASHED state. So check the state after acquiring the mutex, and
only proceed with the recovery work if the remoteproc is still in
CRASHED state.
Delay reporting that recovering has begun until after we hold the
mutex and we know the remote processor is in CRASHED state.

If the rproc driver is probed before the mailbox driver and if the rproc
Device Tree node has some mailbox properties, the rproc driver probe
shall be deferred instead of being probed without mailbox support.

Index of rvring is computed using pointer arithmetic. However, since
rvring->rvdev->vring is the base of the vring array, computation
of rvring idx should be reversed. It previously lead to writing at negative
indices in the resource table.

The mailbox callback is under interrupt context. A consequence is
that RPMsg Callbacks are also in interrupt context.
Create workqueue to treat the callbacks in normal context.

The rproc_mem_entry_init() call takes a pointer to a vm
as the second argument. The code is currently using a
plain 0 as "NULL". Change to using NULL to fix the
following sparse warnings:
drivers/remoteproc/remoteproc_core.c:339:49: warning: Using plain integer as NULL pointer

MSM8998 sits between MSM8996 and SDM845 in terms of functionality needed to
boot the modem subsystem. Booting mss allows for servicing the traditional
cellular usecases along with the wireless usecases such as wifi.
