Chris Wilson 0d55babc83 drm/i915: Drop stray clearing of rps->last_adj
We used to reset last_adj to 0 on crossing a power domain boundary, to
slow down our rate of change. However, commit 60548c554b ("drm/i915:
Interactive RPS mode") accidentally caused it to be reset on every
frequency update, nerfing the fast response granted by the slow start
algorithm.

Chris Wilson 60548c554b drm/i915: Interactive RPS mode
RPS provides a feedback loop where we use the load during the previous
evaluation interval to decide whether to up or down clock the GPU
frequency. Our responsiveness is split into 3 regimes, a high and low
plateau with the intent to keep the gpu clocked high to cover occasional
stalls under high load, and low despite occasional glitches under steady
low load, and inbetween. However, we run into situations like kodi where
we want to stay at low power (video decoding is done efficiently
inside the fixed function HW and doesn't need high clocks even for high
bitrate streams), but just occasionally the pipeline is more complex
than a video decode and we need a smidgen of extra GPU power to present
on time. In the high power regime, we sample at sub frame intervals with
a bias to upclocking, and conversely at low power we sample over a few
frames worth to provide what we consider to be the right levels of
responsiveness respectively. At low power, we more or less expect to be
kicked out to high power at the start of a busy sequence by waitboosting.

Prior to commit e9af4ea2b9 ("drm/i915: Avoid waitboosting on the active
request") whenever we missed the frame or stalled, we would immediate go
full throttle and upclock the GPU to max. But in commit e9af4ea2b9, we
relaxed the waitboosting to only apply if the pipeline was deep to avoid
over-committing resources for a near miss. Sadly though, a near miss is
still a miss, and perceptible as jitter in the frame delivery.

To try and prevent the near miss before having to resort to boosting
after the fact, we use the pageflip queue as an indication that we are
in an "interactive" regime and so should sample the load more frequently
to provide power before the frame misses it vblank. This will make us
more favorable to providing a small power increase (one or two bins) as
required rather than going all the way to maximum and then having to
work back down again. (We still keep the waitboosting mechanism around
just in case a dramatic change in system load requires urgent uplocking,
faster than we can provide in a few evaluation intervals.)

Chris Wilson 86c1c87d0e drm/i915: Downgrade Gen9 Plane WM latency error
According to intel_read_wm_latency() it is perfectly legal for one WM
and all subsequent levels to be 0 (and the deeper powersaving states
disabled), so don't shout *ERROR*, over and over again.

Paulo Zanoni f00ca81510 drm/i915: inline skl_copy_ddb_for_pipe() to its only caller
While things may have been different before, right now the function is
very simple and has a single caller. IMHO any possible benefits from
an abstraction here are gone and not worth the price of the current
indirection while reading the code.

Mahesh Kumar 6ceb727717 drm/i915/icl: Don't update enabled dbuf slices struct until updated in hw
Do not update number of enabled dbuf slices in dev_priv struct until we
actually enable/disable dbuf slice in hw. This is leading to never
updating dbuf slices and resulting in DBuf slice mismatch warning.

Oscar Mateo d65dc3e40b drm/i915/icl: Enable Sampler DFR
Sampler Dynamic Frequency Rebalancing (DFR) aims to reduce Sampler
power by dynamically changing its clock frequency in low-throughput
conditions. This patches enables it by default on Gen11.

Mahesh Kumar 37cde11ba7 drm/i915/icl: update ddb entry start/end mask during hw ddb readout

Mahesh Kumar aa9664ffe8 drm/i915/icl: Enable 2nd DBuf slice only when needed
ICL has two slices of DBuf, each slice of size 1024 blocks.
We should not always enable slice-2. It should be enabled only if
display total required BW is > 12GBps OR more than 1 pipes are enabled.

 - typecast total_data_rate to u64 before multiplication to solve any
   possible overflow (Rodrigo)
 - fix where skl_wm_get_hw_state was memsetting ddb, resulting
   enabled_slices to become zero
 - Fix the logic of calculating ddb_size

Mahesh Kumar 74bd8004e4 drm/i915/icl: track dbuf slice-2 status

This is foundation to introduce support for enabling/disabling second
DBUF slice dynamically for ICL.

Mahesh Kumar e1f96a66e7 drm/i915/skl: split skl_compute_ddb function
This patch splits skl_compute_wm/ddb functions into two parts.
One adds all affected pipes after the commit to atomic_state structure
and second part does compute the DDB.

Mahesh Kumar 08d0e875ae drm/i915/skl+: nv12 workaround disable WM level 1-7
Display Workaround #0826 (SKL:ALL BXT:ALL) & #1059(CNL:A)
Hardware sometimes fails to wake memory from pkg C states fetching the
last few lines of planar YUV 420 (NV12) planes. This causes
intermittent underflow and corruption.
WA: Disable package C states or do not enable latency levels 1 through 7
(WM1 - WM7) on NV12 planes.

Mahesh Kumar 8b2b53ce94 drm/i915/skl+: make sure higher latency level has higher wm value
DDB allocation optimization algorithm requires/assumes ddb allocation for
any memory C-state level DDB value to be as high as level below the
current level. Render decompression requires level WM to be as high as
wm level-0. This patch fulfils both the requirements.

Mahesh Kumar 62027b7736 drm/i915/skl+: pass skl_wm_level struct to wm compute func

Mahesh Kumar ddf3431914 drm/i915/skl+: support verification of DDB HW state for NV12
For YUV 420 Planar formats like NV12,
buffer allocation is done for Y and UV surfaces separately.
For NV12 plane formats, the UV buffer
allocation must be programmed in the Plane Buffer Config register
and the Y buffer allocation must be programmed in the
Plane NV12 Buffer Config register. Both register values
should be verified during verify_wm_state.

Chris Wilson d586b5f4cf drm/i915: Index the ring frequency table by HW frequency range
When reporting the frequency table stored in the punit, report the full
range and not just the user restricted frequency range. In the process
keep the code to set the frequency table and read it the same.

Chris Wilson e61e0f51ba drm/i915: Rename drm_i915_gem_request to i915_request
We want to de-emphasize the link between the request (dependency,
execution and fence tracking) from GEM and so rename the struct from
drm_i915_gem_request to i915_request. That is we may implement the GEM
user interface on top of requests, but they are an abstraction for
tracking execution rather than an implementation detail of GEM. (Since
they are not tied to HW, we keep the i915 prefix as opposed to intel.)

A corollary to contracting the type name, we also harmonise on using

Tvrtko Ursulin 817cc07918 drm/i915: Handle RC6 counter wrap
We can implement limited RC6 counter wrap-around protection under the
assumption that clients will be reading this value more frequently than
the wrap period on a given platform.

With the typical wrap-around period being ~90 minutes, even with the
exception of Baytrail which wraps every 13 seconds, this sounds like a
reasonable assumption.

Implementation works by storing a 64-bit software copy of a hardware RC6
counter, along with the previous HW counter snapshot. This enables it to
detect wrap is polled frequently enough and keep the software copy
monotonically incrementing.

Maarten Lankhorst 31dade7df4 drm/i915: Ignore minimum lines for level 0 in skl_compute_plane_wm, v2.
According to bspec, result_lines > 31 is only a maximum for latency
level 1 through 7.

For level 0 the number of lines is ignored, so always write 0 there
to prevent overflowing the 5 bits value.

This is required to make NV12 work.

Changes since v1:
- Rebase on top of GEN11 wm changes. It seems to use res_lines for
  level 0 limit calculations, but still doesn't appear to program it.

Imre Deak 006bb4ccac drm/i915/bxt, glk: Avoid long atomic poll during CDCLK change
There is no requirement for doing the PCODE request polling atomically,
so do that only for a short time switching to sleeping poll afterwards.
The specification requires a 150usec timeout for the change notification,
so let's use that for the atomic poll. Do the extra 2ms poll - needed as
a workaround on BXT/GLK - in sleeping mode.

Imre Deak e76019a819 drm/i915/bxt, glk: Increase PCODE timeouts during CDCLK freq changing
Currently we see sporadic timeouts during CDCLK changing both on BXT and
GLK as reported by the Bugzilla: ticket. It's easy to reproduce this by
changing the frequency in a tight loop after blanking the display. The
upper bound for the completion time is 800us based on my tests, so
increase it from the current 500us to 2ms; with that I couldn't trigger
the problem either on BXT or GLK.

Note that timeouts happened during both the change notification and the
voltage level setting PCODE request. (For the latter one BSpec doesn't
require us to wait for completion before further HW programming.)

This issue is similar to
commit 2c7d0602c8 ("drm/i915/gen9: Fix PCODE polling during CDCLK
change notification")
but there the PCODE request does complete (as shown by the mbox
busy flag), only the reply we get from PCODE indicates a failure.
So there we keep resending the request until a success reply, here we
just have to increase the timeout for the one PCODE request we send.

Mahesh Kumar 234059da0f drm/i915/icl: NV12 y-plane ddb is not in same plane
We don't have planar pixel format support implemented for ICL yet.
ICL require 2 display planes to be allocated for Planar formats unlike
previous GEN. So ICL/GEN11 doesn't require to write Y-plane ddb data in
NV12_BUF_CFG register and PLANE_NV12_BUF_CFG register is removed in ICL.

This patch removes the PLANE_NV12_BUF_CFG write for ICL.

Mahesh Kumar df8ee19087 drm/i915/icl: Do not fix dbuf block size to 512
GEN9/10 had fixed DBuf block size of 512. Dbuf block size is not a
fixed number anymore in GEN11, it varies according to bits per pixel
and tiling. If 8bpp & Yf-tile surface, block size = 256 else block
size = 512

This patch addresses the same.

Chris Wilson c1beabcf14 drm/i915: Increase render/media power gating hysteresis for gen9+
On gen9+, after an idle period the HW will disable the entire power well
to conserve power (by preventing current leakage). It takes around a 100
microseconds to bring the power well back online afterwards. With the
current hysteresis value of 25us (really 25 * 1280ns), we do not have
sufficient time to respond to an interrupt and schedule the next execution
before the HW powers itself down. (At present, we prevent this by
grabbing the forcewake for prolonged periods of time, but that overkill
fixed in the next patch.) The minimum we want to set the power gating
hysteresis to is the length of time it takes us to service the GPU, which
across a broad spectrum of machines is about 250us.

(Note this also brings guc latency into the same ballpark as execlists.)

Chris Wilson fb6db0f5bf drm/i915: Remove unsafe i915.enable_rc6
It has been many years since the last confirmed sighting (and fix) of an
RC6 related bug (usually a system hang). Remove the parameter to stop
users from setting dangerous values, as they often set it during triage
and end up disabling the entire runtime pm instead (the option is not a
fine scalpel!).

Furthermore, it allows users to set known dangerous values which were
intended for testing and not for production use. For testing, we can
always patch in the required setting without having to expose ourselves
to random abuse.

lack of ilk support better.

Chris Wilson a54b1873c0 drm/i915: Use exponential backoff for wait_for()
Instead of sleeping for a fixed 1ms (roughly, depending on timer slack),
start with a small sleep and exponentially increase the sleep on each
cycle.

A good example of a beneficiary is the guc mmio communication channel.
Typically we expect (and so spin) for 10us for a quick response, but this
doesn't cover everything and so sometimes we fallback to the millisecond+
sleep. This incurs a significant delay in time-critical operations like
preemption (igt/gem_exec_latency), which can be improved significantly by
using a small sleep after the spin fails.

We've made this suggestion many times, but had little experimental data
to support adding the complexity.

don't need to be programmed separately, and could be directly assigned
to the optimal watermarks.

CXSR must always be disabled in the intermediate case for modesets,
else we get a WARN for vblank wait timeout.

Also rename crtc_state to new_crtc_state, to distinguish it from the old
state.

Chris Wilson 34991bd48c drm/i915: Unify SLICE_UNIT_LEVEL_CLKGATE w/a for cnl
gem_workarounds reports that the SLICE_UNIT_LEVEL_CLKGATE write isn't
sticking. Commit 0a60797a0e ("drm/i915: Implement
ReadHitWriteOnlyDisable.") presumes that SLICE_UNIT_LEVEL_CLKGATE is a
masked register in the context image, but commit 90007bca61
("drm/i915/cnl: Introduce initial Cannonlake Workarounds.") lists it as
an ordering unmasked register. The masked write will be losing the
default settings if we trust the original commit. That gem_workarounds
reports the value is lost entirely is more worrying though -- but it
clearly suggests that it is not a masked register in the context image,
so unify both w/a to use the original rmw.

Oscar Mateo 1b790cd9bf drm/i915: Remove Gen9 WAs with no effect
GEN8_CONFIG0 (0xD00) is a protected by a lock (bit 31) which is set by
the BIOS, so there is no way we can enable the three chicken bits
mandated by the WA (the BIOS should be doing it instead).

Chris Wilson 37cd33006d drm/i915: Remove redundant intel_autoenable_gt_powersave()
Now that we always execute a context switch upon module load, there is
no need to queue a delayed task for doing so. The purpose of the delayed
task is to enable GT powersaving, for which we need the HW state to be
valid (i.e. having loaded a context and initialised basic state). We
used to defer this operation as historically it was slow (due to slow
register polling, fixed with commit 1758b90e38 ("drm/i915: Use a hybrid
scheme for fast register waits")) but now we have a requirement to save
the default HW state.

Ville Syrjälä f72b84c677 drm/i915: Move init_clock_gating() back to where it was
Apparently setting up a bunch of GT registers before we've properly
initialized the rest of the GT hardware leads to these setting being
lost. So looks like I broke HSW with commit b7048ea12f ("drm/i915:
Do .init_clock_gating() earlier to avoid it clobbering watermarks")
by doing init_clock_gating() too early. This should actually affect
other platforms as well, but apparently not to such a great degree.

What I was ultimately after in that commit was to move the
ilk_init_lp_watermarks() call earlier. So let's undo the damage and
move init_clock_gating() back to where it was, and call
ilk_init_lp_watermarks() just before the watermark state readout.

This highlights how fragile and messed up our init order really is.
I wonder why we even initialize the display before gem. The opposite
order would make much more sense to me...

v2: Keep WaRsPkgCStateDisplayPMReq:hsw early as it really must
    be done before all planes might get disabled.

Chris Wilson 1a1f12872e drm/i915: Prevent unbounded wm results in g4x_compute_wm()
Smatch warns of

drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_pm.c:1161 g4x_compute_wm() warn: signedness bug returning '(-33554430)'

which is a result of it believing that wm may be INT_MAX following
g4x_tlb_miss_wa(). Just declaring g4x_tlb_miss_wa() as returning an
unsigned integer is not sufficient, we need to tell smatch that wm itself
is unsigned for it to not worry. So mark up the locals we expect to be
non-negative, and so silence smatch.

v2: Mark up vlv_compute_wm_level() as unsigned similarly.

Maarten Lankhorst b6b178a772 drm/i915: Calculate ironlake intermediate watermarks correctly, v2.
The watermarks it should calculate against are the old optimal watermarks.
The currently active crtc watermarks are pure fiction, and are invalid in
case of a nonblocking modeset, page flip enabling/disabling planes or any
other reason.

When the crtc is disabled or during a modeset the intermediate watermarks
don't need to be programmed separately, and could be directly assigned
to the optimal watermarks.

Maarten Lankhorst 28283f4f35 drm/i915: Do not rely on wm preservation for ILK watermarks
The original intent was to preserve watermarks as much as possible
in intel_pipe_wm.raw_wm, and put the validated ones in intel_pipe_wm.wm.

It seems this approach is insufficient and we don't always preserve
the raw watermarks, so just use the atomic iterator we're already using
to get a const pointer to all bound planes on the crtc.

Rodrigo Vivi 43037c86d1 drm/i915/cnl: Allow 2 pixel per clock on Cannonlake.
This is heavily based on a initial patch provided by Ville
plus all changes provided later by Ander.

As Geminilake, Cannonlake also supports 2 pixels per clock.

Different from Geminilake we are not implementing the 99% Wa.
But we can revisit that decision later if we find out
any limitation on later CNL SKUs.

On CNL, individual wake rate limit was added to each engine.

GT can only go to RC6 if both Render and Media engines are
individually qualified. So we need to set their individual
wake rate limit.

Rodrigo Vivi e4ffc83d3f drm/i915/cnl: WaRsUseTimeoutMode
Apparently RC6 residency is lower than expected
with EI mode for most of the cases on CNL A0, B0 and C0.

This Wa doesn't solve our lower residency, but I
believe it is better to have it since EI is not
expected to work by HW engineers anyways.

This patch separates RC6 and RPS enabling for BDW.
RC6/RPS Disabling are handled through gen6 functions.
PM Programming guide recommends a sequence within forcewakes to
configure RC6, RPS and ring frequencies in sequence. With this
patch the order is still maintained.

Rodrigo Vivi 4d6ef0da41 drm/i915/skl: Fix has_ipc on skl and document WaDisableIPC.
According to Spec for SKL+: "Isochronous Priority Control.
If enabled, Display sends demoted requests once the transition
watermark is reached. If transition watermark is not enabled,
Display sends demoted requests when the display buffer is full."

The commit 'e57f1c02155f ("drm/i915/gen9+: Add has_ipc flag in
device info structure")' introduced that as gen9+ but missing many
SKL Skus.

I believe the reason for that is Spec also mentions workarounds for
SKL-ALL: "IPC (Isoch Priority Control) may cause underflows
WA: Do not enable IPC in register ARB_CTL2"

It seems lame to add the feature and forever disable it,
but it will avoid a mistake of enabling it when we are reorganizing
the feature definitions on i915_pci.c later.

It will also allow us to probably extend that workaround for
other platforms.

Ville Syrjälä 93564044fb drm/i915: Switch over to the LLC/eLLC hotspot avoidance hash mode for CCS
Use the LLC/eLLC hotspot avoidance mode for CCS on LLC machines. This is
reported to give better performance.

Testing has indicated that we don't need to enforce any massive 2 or 4
MiB alignment for all compressed resources even though there are still
plenty of stale comments in the spec suggesting that we do.

We do need to make sure every hardware unit that deals with the
compressed data uses the same hash mode.

Kumar, Mahesh 2503a0fef2 drm/i915/bxt+: Enable IPC support
This patch adds IPC support. This patch also enables IPC in all supported
platforms based on has_ipc flag.
IPC (Isochronous Priority Control) is the hardware feature, which
dynamically controls the memory read priority of Display.

When IPC is enabled, plane read requests are sent at high priority until
filling above the transition watermark, then the requests are sent at
lower priority until dropping below the level 0 watermark.
The lower priority requests allow other memory clients to have better
memory access. When IPC is disabled, all plane read requests are sent at
high priority.

 line time = ROUNDDOWN(1/2 * Calculated Line Time)

Earlier code was rounding-up the value, But updated Bspec says we should

This patch calculates & enable transition WM for supported platforms.

transition minimum is the minimum amount needed for trans_wm to work to
ensure  the demote does not happen before enough data has been read to
meet the level 0 watermark requirements.

transition amount is configurable value. Higher values will
tend to cause longer periods of high priority reads followed by longer
periods of lower priority reads. Tuning to lower values will tend to
cause shorter periods of high and lower priority reads.

Keeping transition amount to 10 in this patch, as suggested by HW team.

Kumar, Mahesh 7e452fdbfc drm/i915/skl+: Optimize WM calculation
Plane configuration parameters doesn't change for each WM-level
calculation. Currently we compute same parameters 8 times for each
wm-level.
This patch optimizes it by calculating these parameters in beginning
& reuse during each level-wm calculation.

Rodrigo Vivi 0a46ddd57c drm/i915/cnp: Wa 1181: Fix Backlight issue
This workaround fixes a CNL PCH bug when changing
backlight from a lower frequency to a higher frequency.

During random reboot cycles, display backlight seems to
be off/ dim for 2-3 mins.

The only functional change on this patch is to
set bit 13 of 0xC2020 for CNL PCH.

The rest of patch is organizing identation around
those bits definitions and re-organizing CFL workarounds.

    around (Jani).
