It has been found that some users (like cpufreq-dt and others on LKML)
have abused the helper dev_pm_opp_get_opp_table() to create the OPP
table instead of just finding it, which is the wrong thing to do. This
routine was meant for OPP core's internal working and exposed the whole
functionality by mistake.
Change the scope of dev_pm_opp_get_opp_table() to only finding the
table. The internal helpers _opp_get_opp_table*() are thus renamed to
_add_opp_table*(), dev_pm_opp_get_opp_table_indexed() is removed (as we
don't need the index field for finding the OPP table) and so the only
user, genpd, is updated.
Note that the prototype of _add_opp_table() was already left in opp.h by
mistake when it was removed earlier and so we weren't required to add it
now.

The dev_pm_genpd_suspend|resume() have so far only been used during the
syscore suspend/resume phases. However, during suspend-to-idle, where the
syscore phases doesn't exist, similar operations are sometimes needed.
An existing example are the timekeeping_suspend|resume() functions, which
are being called both through a registered syscore ops during the syscore
phases, but also as regular functions calls from cpuidle (via
tick_freeze()) during suspend-to-idle.
For similar reasons, let's enable the dev_pm_genpd_suspend|resume() APIs to
be re-used for corresponding CPU devices that are attached to a genpd,
during suspend-to-idle.

After commit d12544fb2a ("PM: runtime: Remove link state checks in
rpm_get/put_supplier()") nothing prevents the consumer device's
runtime PM from acquiring additional references to the supplier
device after pm_runtime_clean_up_links() has run (or even while it
is running), so calling this function from __device_release_driver()
may be pointless (or even harmful).
Moreover, it ignores stateless device links, so the runtime PM
handling of managed and stateless device links is inconsistent
because of it, so better get rid of it entirely.

A device may have specific HW constraints that must be obeyed to, before
its corresponding PM domain (genpd) can be powered off - and vice verse at
power on. These constraints can't be managed through the regular runtime PM
based deployment for a device, because the access pattern for it, isn't
always request based. In other words, using the runtime PM callbacks to
deal with the constraints doesn't work for these cases.
For these reasons, let's instead add a PM domain power on/off notification
mechanism to genpd. To add/remove a notifier for a device, the device must
already have been attached to the genpd, which also means that it needs to
be a part of the PM domain topology.
To add/remove a notifier, let's introduce two genpd specific functions:
- dev_pm_genpd_add|remove_notifier()
Note that, to further clarify when genpd power on/off notifiers may be
used, one can compare with the existing CPU_CLUSTER_PM_ENTER|EXIT
notifiers. In the long run, the genpd power on/off notifiers should be able
to replace them, but that requires additional genpd based platform support
for the current users.

In genpd_power_off() we may decide to abort the power off of the PM domain,
even beyond the point when the governor would accept it. The abort is done
if it turns out that a child domain has been requested to be powered on,
which means it's waiting for the lock of the parent to be released.
However, the abort is currently only considered if the genpd in question
has a ->power_off() callback assigned. This is unnecessary limiting,
especially if the genpd would have a parent of its own. Let's remove the
limitation and make the behaviour consistent.

To support runtime PM for hisi SAS driver (the driver is in directory
drivers/scsi/hisi_sas), we add device link between scsi_device->sdev_gendev
(consumer device) and hisi_hba->dev(supplier device) with flags
DL_FLAG_PM_RUNTIME | DL_FLAG_RPM_ACTIVE.
After runtime suspended consumers and supplier, unload the dirver which
causes a hung.
We found that it called function device_release_driver_internal() to
release the supplier device (hisi_hba->dev), as the device link was
busy, it set the device link state to DL_STATE_SUPPLIER_UNBIND, and
then it called device_release_driver_internal() to release the consumer
device (scsi_device->sdev_gendev).
Then it would try to call pm_runtime_get_sync() to resume the consumer
device, but because consumer-supplier relation existed, it would try
to resume the supplier first, but as the link state was already
DL_STATE_SUPPLIER_UNBIND, so it skipped resuming the supplier and only
resumed the consumer which hanged (it sends IOs to resume scsi_device
while the SAS controller is suspended).
Simple flow is as follows:
device_release_driver_internal -> (supplier device)
if device_links_busy ->
device_links_unbind_consumers ->
...
WRITE_ONCE(link->status, DL_STATE_SUPPLIER_UNBIND)
device_release_driver_internal (consumer device)
pm_runtime_get_sync -> (consumer device)
...
__rpm_callback ->
rpm_get_suppliers ->
if link->state == DL_STATE_SUPPLIER_UNBIND -> skip the action of resuming the supplier
...
pm_runtime_clean_up_links
...
Correct suspend/resume ordering between a supplier device and its consumer
devices (resume the supplier device before resuming consumer devices, and
suspend consumer devices before suspending the supplier device) should be
guaranteed by runtime PM, but the state checks in rpm_get_supplier() and
rpm_put_supplier() break this rule, so remove them.

It has been reported that system-wide suspend may be aborted in the
absence of any wakeup events due to unforseen interactions of it with
the runtume PM framework.
One failing scenario is when there are multiple devices sharing an
ACPI power resource and runtime-resume needs to be carried out for
one of them during system-wide suspend (for example, because it needs
to be reconfigured before the whole system goes to sleep). In that
case, the runtime-resume of that device involves turning the ACPI
power resource "on" which in turn causes runtime-resume requests
to be queued up for all of the other devices sharing it. Those
requests go to the runtime PM workqueue which is frozen during
system-wide suspend, so they are not actually taken care of until
the resume of the whole system, but the pm_runtime_barrier()
call in __device_suspend() sees them and triggers system wakeup
events for them which then cause the system-wide suspend to be
aborted if wakeup source objects are in active use.
Of course, the logic that leads to triggering those wakeup events is
questionable in the first place, because clearly there are cases in
which a pending runtime resume request for a device is not connected
to any real wakeup events in any way (like the one above). Moreover,
it is racy, because the device may be resuming already by the time
the pm_runtime_barrier() runs and so if the driver doesn't take care
of signaling the wakeup event as appropriate, it will be lost.
However, if the driver does take care of that, the extra
pm_wakeup_event() call in the core is redundant.
Accordingly, drop the conditional pm_wakeup_event() call fron
__device_suspend() and make the latter call pm_runtime_barrier()
alone. Also modify the comment next to that call to reflect the new
code and extend it to mention the need to avoid unwanted interactions
between runtime PM and system-wide device suspend callbacks.

The OPP core manages various resources, e.g. clocks or interconnect paths.
These resources are looked up when the OPP table is allocated once
dev_pm_opp_get_opp_table() is called the first time (either directly
or indirectly through one of the many helper functions).
At this point, the resources may not be available yet, i.e. looking them
up will result in -EPROBE_DEFER. Unfortunately, dev_pm_opp_get_opp_table()
is currently unable to propagate this error code since it only returns
the allocated OPP table or NULL.
This means that all consumers of the OPP core are required to make sure
that all necessary resources are available. Usually this happens by
requesting them, checking the result and releasing them immediately after.
For example, we have added "dev_pm_opp_of_find_icc_paths(dev, NULL)" to
several drivers now just to make sure the interconnect providers are
ready before the OPP table is allocated. If this call is missing,
the OPP core will only warn about this and then attempt to continue
without interconnect. This will eventually fail horribly, e.g.:
cpu cpu0: _allocate_opp_table: Error finding interconnect paths: -517
... later ...
of: _read_bw: Mismatch between opp-peak-kBps and paths (1 0)
cpu cpu0: _opp_add_static_v2: opp key field not found
cpu cpu0: _of_add_opp_table_v2: Failed to add OPP, -22
This example happens when trying to use interconnects for a CPU OPP
table together with qcom-cpufreq-nvmem.c. qcom-cpufreq-nvmem calls
dev_pm_opp_set_supported_hw(), which ends up allocating the OPP table
early. To fix the problem with the current approach we would need to add
yet another call to dev_pm_opp_of_find_icc_paths(dev, NULL).
But actually qcom-cpufreq-nvmem.c has nothing to do with interconnects...
This commit attempts to make this more robust by allowing
dev_pm_opp_get_opp_table() to return an error pointer. Fixing all
the usages is trivial because the function is usually used indirectly
through another helper (e.g. dev_pm_opp_set_supported_hw() above).
These other helpers already return an error pointer.
The example above then works correctly because set_supported_hw() will
return -EPROBE_DEFER, and qcom-cpufreq-nvmem.c already propagates that
error. It should also be possible to remove the remaining usages of
"dev_pm_opp_of_find_icc_paths(dev, NULL)" from other drivers as well.
Note that this commit currently only handles -EPROBE_DEFER for the
clock/interconnects within _allocate_opp_table(). Other errors are just
ignored as before. Eventually those should be propagated as well.

Because the power.may_skip_resume device status bit is taken
into account in combination with the DPM_FLAG_LEAVE_SUSPENDED
driver flag, it can be set to 'true' for all devices in the
"suspend" phase of a suspend-resume cycle, so do that.
Then, neither the PM core nor the middle-layer (sybsystem) code
handling it needs to set it to 'true' any more and it just has
to be cleared if there is a reason to avoid skipping the "noirq"
and "early" resume callbacks provided by the driver, so update
the code in question accordingly.

Acked-by: Bjorn Helgaas <bhelgaas@google.com>
The current code in device_resume_noirq() causes the entire early
resume and resume phases of device suspend to be skipped for
devices for which the noirq resume phase have been skipped (due
to the LEAVE_SUSPENDED flag being set) on the premise that those
devices should stay in runtime-suspend after system-wide resume.
However, that may not be correct in two situations. First, the
middle layer (subsystem) noirq resume callback may be missing for
a given device, but its early resume callback may be present and it
may need to do something even if it decides to skip the driver
callback. Second, if the device's wakeup settings were adjusted
in the suspend phase without resuming the device (that was in
runtime suspend at that time), they most likely need to be
adjusted again in the resume phase and so the driver callback
in that phase needs to be run.
For the above reason, modify the core to allow the middle layer
->resume_late callback to run even if its ->resume_noirq callback
is missing (and the core has skipped the driver-level callback
in that phase) and to allow all device callbacks to run in the
resume phase. Also make the core set the PM-runtime status of
devices with SMART_SUSPEND set whose resume callbacks are not
skipped to "active" in the "noirq" resume phase and update the
affected subsystems (PCI and ACPI) accordingly.
After this change, middle-layer (subsystem) callbacks will always
be invoked in all phases of system suspend and resume and driver
callbacks will always run in the prepare, suspend, resume, and
complete phases for all devices.
For devices with SMART_SUSPEND set, driver callbacks will be
skipped in the late and noirq phases of system suspend if those
devices remain in runtime suspend in __device_suspend_late().
Driver callbacks will also be skipped for them during the
noirq and early phases of the "thaw" transition related to
hibernation in that case.
Setting LEAVE_SUSPENDED means that the driver allows its callbacks
to be skipped in the noirq and early phases of system resume, but
some additional conditions need to be met for that to happen (among
other things, the power.may_skip_resume flag needs to be set for the
device during system suspend for the driver callbacks to be skipped
during the subsequent resume transition).
For all devices with SMART_SUSPEND set whose driver callbacks are
invoked during system resume, the PM-runtime status will be set to
"active" (by the core).

The code to handle the SMART_SUSPEND driver PM flag is hard to follow
and somewhat inconsistent with respect to devices without middle-layer
(subsystem) callbacks.
Namely, for those devices the core takes the role of a middle layer
in providing the expected ordering of execution of callbacks (under
the assumption that the drivers setting SMART_SUSPEND can reuse their
PM-runtime callbacks directly for system-wide suspend). To that end,
it prevents driver ->suspend_late and ->suspend_noirq callbacks from
being executed for devices that are still runtime-suspended in
__device_suspend_late(), because running the same callback funtion
that was previously run by PM-runtime for them may be invalid.
However, it does that only for devices without any middle-layer
callbacks for the late/noirq/early suspend/resume phases even
though it would be simpler and more consistent to skip the
driver-lavel callbacks for all devices with SMART_SUSPEND set
that are runtime-suspended in __device_suspend_late().
Simplify the code in accordance with the above observation.

pm_runtime_get_if_in_use() bumps up the PM-runtime usage count if it
is not equal to zero and the device's PM-runtime status is 'active'.
This works for drivers that do not use autoidle, but for those that
do, the function returns zero even when the device is active.
In order to maintain sane device state while the device is powered on
in the hope that it'll be needed, pm_runtime_get_if_active(dev, true)
returns a positive value if the device's PM-runtime status is 'active'
when it is called, in which case it also increments the device's usage
count.
If the second argument of pm_runtime_get_if_active() is 'false', the
function behaves just like pm_runtime_get_if_in_use(), so redefine
the latter as a wrapper around the former.

If a device is deleted by one of its system-wide resume callbacks
(for example, because it does not appear to be present or accessible
any more) along with its children, the resume of the children may
continue leading to use-after-free errors and other issues
(potentially).
Namely, if the device's children are resumed asynchronously, their
resume may have been scheduled already before the device's callback
runs and so the device may be deleted while dpm_wait_for_superior()
is being executed for them. The memory taken up by the parent device
object may be freed then while dpm_wait() is waiting for the parent's
resume callback to complete, which leads to a use-after-free.
Moreover, the resume of the children is really not expected to
continue after they have been unregistered, so it must be terminated
right away in that case.
To address this problem, modify dpm_wait_for_superior() to check
if the target device is still there in the system-wide PM list of
devices and if so, to increment its parent's reference counter, both
under dpm_list_mtx which prevents device_del() running for the child
from dropping the parent's reference counter prematurely.
If the device is not present in the system-wide PM list of devices
any more, the resume of it cannot continue, so check that again after
dpm_wait() returns, which means that the parent's callback has been
completed, and pass the result of that check to the caller of
dpm_wait_for_superior() to allow it to abort the device's resume
if it is not there any more.

As tests are added to kunit, it will become less feasible to execute
all built tests together. By supporting modular tests we provide
a simple way to do selective execution on a running system; specifying
CONFIG_KUNIT=y
CONFIG_KUNIT_EXAMPLE_TEST=m
...means we can simply "insmod example-test.ko" to run the tests.
To achieve this we need to do the following:
o export the required symbols in kunit
o string-stream tests utilize non-exported symbols so for now we skip
building them when CONFIG_KUNIT_TEST=m.
o drivers/base/power/qos-test.c contains a few unexported interface
references, namely freq_qos_read_value() and freq_constraints_init().
Both of these could be potentially defined as static inline functions
in include/linux/pm_qos.h, but for now we simply avoid supporting
module build for that test suite.
o support a new way of declaring test suites. Because a module cannot
do multiple late_initcall()s, we provide a kunit_test_suites() macro
to declare multiple suites within the same module at once.
o some test module names would have been too general ("test-test"
and "example-test" for kunit tests, "inode-test" for ext4 tests);
rename these as appropriate ("kunit-test", "kunit-example-test"
and "ext4-inode-test" respectively).
Also define kunit_test_suite() via kunit_test_suites()
as callers in other trees may need the old definition.

Support for adding per-device frequency limits was removed in
commit 2aac8bdf7a ("PM: QoS: Drop frequency QoS types from device PM QoS")
after cpufreq switched to use a new "freq_constraints" construct.
Restore support for per-device freq limits but base this upon
freq_constraints. This is primarily meant to be used by the devfreq
subsystem.
This removes the "static" marking on freq_qos_apply but does not export
it for modules.

The intent with walking the gpd_list via calling genpd_present() from
genpd_syscore_switch(), is to make sure the dev->pm_domain pointer belongs
to a registered genpd. However, as a genpd can't be removed if there is a
device attached to it, let's convert to use the quicker dev_to_genpd_safe()
instead.
Due to the above change, this allows us to clean up genpd_present() and
move it inside CONFIG_PM_GENERIC_DOMAINS_OF, so let's do that as well.

To allow a subsystem/driver to explicitly start its device from genpd's
point view, let's implement the ->start() callback in the struct
dev_pm_domain that corresponds to the genpd.
Signed-off-by: Ulf Hansson <ulf.hansson@linaro.org>
Signed-off-by: Rafael J. Wysocki <rafael.j.wysocki@intel.com>
For a subsystem/driver that either doesn't support runtime PM or makes use
of pm_runtime_set_active() during ->probe(), may try to access its device
when probing, even if it may not be fully powered on from the PM domain's
point of view. This may be the case when the used PM domain is a genpd
provider, that implements genpd's ->start|stop() device callbacks.
There are cases where the subsystem/driver managed to avoid the above
problem, simply by calling pm_runtime_enable() and pm_runtime_get_sync()
during ->probe(). However, this approach comes with a drawback, especially
if the subsystem/driver implements a ->runtime_resume() callback.
More precisely, the subsystem/driver then needs to use a device flag, which
is checked in its ->runtime_resume() callback, as to avoid powering on its
resources the first time the callback is invoked. This is needed because
the subsystem/driver has already powered on the resources for the device,
during ->probe() and before it called pm_runtime_get_sync().
In a way to avoid this boilerplate code and the inefficient check for "if
(first_time_suspend)" in the ->runtime_resume() callback for these
subsystems/drivers, let's introduce and export a dev_pm_domain_start()
function, that may be called during ->probe() instead.
Moreover, let the dev_pm_domain_start() invoke an optional ->start()
callback, added to the struct dev_pm_domain, as to allow a PM domain
specific implementation.

Other than that churn, there are two "persistent" branches in here that
other trees will be pulling in as well during the merge window. One
branch to add support for drivers to have the driver core automatically
add sysfs attribute files when a driver is bound to a device so that the
driver doesn't have to manually do it (and then clean it up, as it
always gets it wrong).
There's another branch in here for generic lookup helpers for the driver
core that lots of busses are starting to use. That's the majority of
the non-driver-core changes in this patch series.
There's also some on-going debugfs file creation cleanup that has been
slowly happening over the past few releases, with the goal to hopefully
get that done sometime next year.
All of these have been in linux-next for a while now with no reported
issues.

The dev_pm_genpd_set_performance_state() could in principle be called for a
device that has a different PM domain type attached than a genpd. This
would lead to a problem as dev_to_genpd() uses the container_of macro.
Address this problem by using dev_to_genpd_safe() instead.

genpd_lookup_dev(), is a bit unnecessary heavy, as it walks the gpd_list to
try to find a valid PM domain corresponding to the device's attached genpd.
Instead of walking the gpd_list, let's use the fact that a genpd always has
the ->runtime_suspend() callback assigned to the genpd_runtime_suspend()
function.
While changing this, let's take the opportunity to also rename
genpd_lookup_dev(), into dev_to_genpd_safe() to better reflect its purpose.

The device_set_wakeup_enable() function can be called on a device that
hasn't been registered with device_add() yet. This allows the device to
be in a state where wakeup is enabled for it but the device isn't
published to userspace in sysfs yet.
After commit c8377adfa7 ("PM / wakeup: Show wakeup sources stats in
sysfs"), calling device_set_wakeup_enable() will fail for a device that
hasn't been registered with the driver core via device_add(). This is
because we try to create sysfs entries for the device and associate a
wakeup class kobject with it before the device has been registered.
Let's follow a similar approach that device_set_wakeup_capable() takes
here and register the wakeup class either from
device_set_wakeup_enable() when the device is already registered, or
from dpm_sysfs_add() when the device is being registered with the driver
core via device_add().

If device_link_add() is called for a consumer/supplier pair with an
existing device link between them and the existing link's type is
not in agreement with the flags passed to that function by its
caller, NULL will be returned. That is seriously inconvenient,
because it forces the callers of device_link_add() to worry about
what others may or may not do even if that is not relevant to them
for any other reasons.
It turns out, however, that this limitation can be made go away
relatively easily.
The underlying observation is that if DL_FLAG_STATELESS has been
passed to device_link_add() in flags for the given consumer/supplier
pair at least once, calling either device_link_del() or
device_link_remove() to release the link returned by it should work,
but there are no other requirements associated with that flag. In
turn, if at least one of the callers of device_link_add() for the
given consumer/supplier pair has not passed DL_FLAG_STATELESS to it
in flags, the driver core should track the status of the link and act
on it as appropriate (ie. the link should be treated as "managed").
This means that DL_FLAG_STATELESS needs to be set for managed device
links and it should be valid to call device_link_del() or
device_link_remove() to drop references to them in certain
sutiations.
To allow that to happen, introduce a new (internal) device link flag
called DL_FLAG_MANAGED and make device_link_add() set it automatically
whenever DL_FLAG_STATELESS is not passed to it. Also make it take
additional references to existing device links that were previously
stateless (that is, with DL_FLAG_STATELESS set and DL_FLAG_MANAGED
unset) and will need to be managed going forward and initialize
their status (which has been DL_STATE_NONE so far).
Accordingly, when a managed device link is dropped automatically
by the driver core, make it clear DL_FLAG_MANAGED, reset the link's
status back to DL_STATE_NONE and drop the reference to it associated
with DL_FLAG_MANAGED instead of just deleting it right away (to
allow it to stay around in case it still needs to be released
explicitly by someone).
With that, since setting DL_FLAG_STATELESS doesn't mean that the
device link in question is not managed any more, replace all of the
status-tracking checks against DL_FLAG_STATELESS with analogous
checks against DL_FLAG_MANAGED and update the documentation to
reflect these changes.
While at it, make device_link_add() reject flags that it does not
recognize, including DL_FLAG_MANAGED.

After commit 33e4f80ee6 ("ACPI / PM: Ignore spurious SCI wakeups
from suspend-to-idle") the "noirq" phases of device suspend and
resume may run for multiple times during suspend-to-idle, if there
are spurious system wakeup events while suspended. However, this
is complicated and fragile and actually unnecessary.
The main reason for doing this is that on some systems the EC may
signal system wakeup events (power button events, for example) as
well as events that should not cause the system to resume (spurious
system wakeup events). Thus, in order to determine whether or not
a given event signaled by the EC while suspended is a proper system
wakeup one, the EC GPE needs to be dispatched and to start with that
was achieved by allowing the ACPI SCI action handler to run, which
was only possible after calling resume_device_irqs().
However, dispatching the EC GPE this way turned out to take too much
time in some cases and some EC events might be missed due to that, so
commit 68e2201185 ("ACPI: EC: Dispatch the EC GPE directly on
s2idle wake") started to dispatch the EC GPE right after a wakeup
event has been detected, so in fact the full ACPI SCI action handler
doesn't need to run any more to deal with the wakeups coming from the
EC.
Use this observation to simplify the suspend-to-idle control flow
so that the "noirq" phases of device suspend and resume are each
run only once in every suspend-to-idle cycle, which is reported to
significantly reduce power drawn by some systems when suspended to
idle (by allowing them to reach a deep platform-wide low-power state
through the suspend-to-idle flow). [What appears to happen is that
the "noirq" resume of devices after a spurious EC wakeup brings some
devices into a state in which they prevent the platform from reaching
the deep low-power state going forward, even after a subsequent
"noirq" suspend phase, and on some systems the EC triggers such
wakeups already when the "noirq" suspend of devices is running for
the first time in the given suspend/resume cycle, so the platform
cannot reach the deep low-power state at all.]
First, make acpi_s2idle_wake() use the acpi_ec_dispatch_gpe() return
value to determine whether or not the wakeup may have been triggered
by the EC (in which case the system wakeup is canceled and ACPI
events are processed in order to determine whether or not the event
is a proper system wakeup one) and use rearm_wake_irq() (introduced
by a previous change) in it to rearm the ACPI SCI for system wakeup
detection in case the system will remain suspended.
Second, drop acpi_s2idle_sync(), which is not needed any more, and
the corresponding global platform suspend-to-idle callback.
Next, drop the pm_wakeup_pending() check (which is an optimization
only) from __device_suspend_noirq() to prevent it from returning
errors on system wakeups occurring before the "noirq" phase of
device suspend is complete (as in the case of suspend-to-idle it is
not known whether or not these wakeups are suprious at that point),
in order to avoid having to carry out a "noirq" resume of devices
on a spurious system wakeup.
Finally, change the code flow in s2idle_loop() to (1) run the
"noirq" suspend of devices once before starting the loop, (2) check
for spurious EC wakeups (via the platform ->wake callback) for the
first time before calling s2idle_enter(), and (3) run the "noirq"
resume of devices once after leaving the loop.

Attaching a device via genpd_dev_pm_attach_by_id|name() makes
genpd allocate a virtual device that it attaches instead. This
leads to a problem in case when the base device belongs to a CPU.
More precisely, it means genpd_get_cpu() compares against the
virtual device, thus it fails to find a matching CPU device.
Address this limitation by passing the base device to genpd_get_cpu()
rather than the virtual device.
Moreover, to deal with detach correctly from genpd_remove_device(),
store the CPU number in struct generic_pm_domain_data, so as to be

If a call to dev_pm_domain_attach() succeeds to attach a device to its
single PM domain, the important point is to prevent subsequent
dev_pm_domain_attach_by_name|id() calls from failing. That is done by
checking the dev->pm_domain pointer and then returning -EEXIST, rather
than continuing to call genpd_dev_pm_attach_by_id|name().
For this reason, enable genpd_dev_pm_attach_by_id|name() to be used for

The dev->power.direct_complete flag may become set in device_prepare() in
case the device don't have any PM callbacks (dev->power.no_pm_callbacks is
set). This leads to a broken behaviour, when there is child having wakeup
enabled and relies on its parent to be used in the wakeup path.
More precisely, when the direct complete path becomes selected for the
child in __device_suspend(), the propagation of the dev->power.wakeup_path
becomes skipped as well.
Let's address this problem, by checking if the device is a part the wakeup
path or has wakeup enabled, then prevent the direct complete path from

After some preceding changes, PM domains managed by genpd may contain
CPU devices, so idle state residency values should be taken into
account during the state selection process. [The residency value is
the minimum amount of time to be spent by a CPU (or a group of CPUs)
in an idle state in order to save more energy than could be saved
by picking up a shallower idle state.]
For this purpose, add a new genpd governor, pm_domain_cpu_gov, to be
used for selecting idle states of PM domains with CPU devices attached
either directly or through subdomains.
The new governor computes the minimum expected idle duration for all
online CPUs attached to a PM domain and its subdomains. Next, it
finds the deepest idle state whose target residency is within the
expected idle duration and selects it as the target idle state of
the domain.
It should be noted that the minimum expected idle duration computation
is based on the closest timer event information stored in the per-CPU
variables cpuidle_devices for all of the CPUs in the domain. That
needs to be revisited in future, as obviously there are other reasons
why a CPU may be woken up from idle.

When we want to execute device pm functions asynchronously, we'll
do the following for the device:
1) reinit_completion(&dev->power.completion);
2) Check if the device enables asynchronous suspend.
3) If necessary, execute the corresponding function asynchronously.
There are a lot of such repeated operations here, in fact we can avoid
this. So introduce dpm_async_fn() to have better code readability and
reuse.
And use this function to do some cleanup.

To enable a CPU device to be attached to a PM domain managed by genpd,
make a few changes to it for convenience.
To be able to quickly find out what CPUs are attached to a genpd,
which typically becomes useful from a genpd governor as subsequent
changes are about to show, add a cpumask to struct generic_pm_domain
to be updated when a CPU device gets attached to the genpd containing
that cpumask. Also, propagate the cpumask changes upwards in the
domain hierarchy to the master PM domains. This way, the cpumask for
a genpd hierarchically reflects all CPUs attached to the topology
below it.
Finally, make this an opt-in feature, to avoid having to manage CPUs
and the cpumask for a genpd that don't need it. To that end, add
a new genpd configuration bit, GENPD_FLAG_CPU_DOMAIN.

Add a data pointer to the genpd_power_state struct, to allow a genpd
backend driver to store per-state specific data. To introduce the
pointer, change the way genpd deals with freeing of the corresponding
allocated data.
More precisely, clarify the responsibility of whom that shall free the
data, by adding a ->free_states() callback to the generic_pm_domain
structure. The one allocating the data will be expected to set the
callback, to allow genpd to invoke it from genpd_remove().

There were a few files in the driver core power code that did not have
SPDX identifiers on them, so fix that up. At the same time, remove the
"free form" text that specified the license of the file, as that is
impossible for any tool to properly parse.

These prints are useful if we're doing PM suspend debugging. Having them
at pr_debug() level means that we need to either enable DEBUG in this
file, or compile the kernel with dynamic debug capabilities. Both of
these options have drawbacks like custom compilation or opting into all
debug statements being included into the kernel image. Given that we
already have infrastructure to collect PM debugging information with
CONFIG_PM_DEBUG and friends, let's change the pr_debug usage here to be
pm_pr_dbg() instead so we can collect the wakeup information in the
kernel logs.

Lockdep warns that prepare_lock and genpd->mlock can cause a deadlock
the deadlock scenario is like following:
First thread is probing cs2000
cs2000_probe()
clk_register()
__clk_core_init()
clk_prepare_lock() ----> acquires prepare_lock
cs2000_recalc_rate()
i2c_smbus_read_byte_data()
rcar_i2c_master_xfer()
dma_request_chan()
rcar_dmac_of_xlate()
rcar_dmac_alloc_chan_resources()
pm_runtime_get_sync()
__pm_runtime_resume()
rpm_resume()
rpm_callback()
genpd_runtime_resume() ----> acquires genpd->mlock
Second thread is attaching any device to the same PM domain
genpd_add_device()
genpd_lock() ----> acquires genpd->mlock
cpg_mssr_attach_dev()
of_clk_get_from_provider()
__of_clk_get_from_provider()
__clk_create_clk()
clk_prepare_lock() ----> acquires prepare_lock
Since currently no PM provider access genpd's critical section
in .attach_dev, and .detach_dev callbacks, so there is no need to protect
these two callbacks with genpd->mlock.
This patch avoids a potential deadlock by moving out .attach_dev and .detach_dev
from genpd->mlock, so that genpd->mlock won't be held when prepare_lock is acquired
in .attach_dev and .detach_dev

After commit d856f39ac1cc ("PM / wakeup: Rework wakeup source timer
cancellation") wakeup_source_drop() is a trivial wrapper around
__pm_relax() and it has no users except for wakeup_source_destroy()
and wakeup_source_trash() which also has no users, so drop it along
with the latter and make wakeup_source_destroy() call __pm_relax()
directly.

If wakeup_source_add() is called right after wakeup_source_remove()
for the same wakeup source, timer_setup() may be called for a
potentially scheduled timer which is incorrect.
To avoid that, move the wakeup source timer cancellation from
wakeup_source_drop() to wakeup_source_remove().
Moreover, make wakeup_source_remove() clear the timer function after
canceling the timer to let wakeup_source_not_registered() treat
unregistered wakeup sources in the same way as the ones that have
never been registered.

It is strange to only return early for -EBUSY state and left other
errors to be still measured execution time.
As for error cases, the elapsed_ns computed actually is not quite
accurate and meaningful for governor to use. So let's simply return

Avoid the open-coding of the accounted time acquisition in
runtime_active|suspend_time_show() and make them call
pm_runtime_active|suspended_time() instead.
Note that this change also indirectly avoids holding dev->power.lock

More patches than "normal" here this merge window, due to some work in
the driver core by Alexander Duyck to rework the async probe
functionality to work better for a number of devices, and independant
work from Rafael for the device link functionality to make it work
"correctly".
Also in here is:
- lots of BUS_ATTR() removals, the macro is about to go away
- firmware test fixups
- ihex fixups and simplification
- component additions (also includes i915 patches)
- lots of minor coding style fixups and cleanups.

When rpm_resume() desactivates the autosuspend timer, it should only
try to cancel hrtimer but not wait for the handler to finish, because
both rpm_resume() and pm_suspend_timer_fn() take the power.lock.
A deadlock is possible as follows:
CPU0 CPU1
rpm_resume()
spin_lock_irqsave
pm_suspend_timer_fn()
spin_lock_irqsave
pm_runtime_deactivate_timer()
hrtimer_cancel()
It is sufficient to call hrtimer_try_to_cancel() from
pm_runtime_deactivate_timer(), because dev->power.timer_expires
reset to 0 by it, so use that function instead of hrtimer_cancel().
