Primarily SPI device driver bug fixes, one removal of an old driver, and
some new tegra support. There is some core code change too, but all in
all pretty small stuff. The new features to note are:
- Common code for describing GPIO CS lines in the device tree
- Remove the SPI_BUFSIZ limitation on spi_write_the_read()
- core spi ensures bits_per_word is set correctly
- SPARC can now use SPI

Initiator access config could be easier. The way other storage vendors
have addressed this is to support initiator groups: the admin adds
initiator WWNs to the group, and then LUN permissions can be granted for
the entire group at once.
Instead of changing ktarget's configfs interface, this patch keeps
the configfs interface per-initiator-wwn and just adds a 'tag' field
for each. This should be enough for user tools like targetcli to group
initiator ACLs and sync their configurations.
acl_tag is not used internally, but needs to be kept in configfs so that
all user tools can avoid dependencies on each other.
Code tested to work, although userspace pieces still to be implemented.

"The rest of most-of-MM. The other MM bits await a slab merge.
This patch includes the addition of a huge zero_page. Not a
performance boost but it an save large amounts of physical memory in
some situations.
Also a bunch of Fujitsu engineers are working on memory hotplug.
Which, as it turns out, was badly broken. About half of their patches
are included here; the remainder are 3.8 material."
However, this merge disables CONFIG_MOVABLE_NODE, which was totally
broken. We don't add new features with "default y", nor do we add
Kconfig questions that are incomprehensible to most people without any
help text. Does the feature even make sense without compaction or

The patch needs to eliminate the definition of OCTEON_IRQ_BOOTDMA so
that the device tree code can map the interrupt, so in order to not
temporarily break things, we do a single patch to both the interrupt
registration code and the pata_octeon_cf driver.
Also rolled in is a conversion to use hrtimers and corrections to the
timing calculations.

Changelog v2:
Added details of original patch in chromium kernel
Changelog v1:
When fimd is turned off, we disable the clocks which will stop
the dma. Now if we remove the current framebuffer, we cannot
disable the overlay but the current framebuffer will still be freed.
When fimd resumes, the dma will continue from where it left off
and will throw a PAGE FAULT since the memory was freed.
This patch fixes the above problem by disabling the fimd windows
before disabling the fimd clocks. It also keeps track of which
windows were currently active by setting the 'resume' flag. When
fimd resumes, the window with a resume flag set is enabled again.
Now if a current fb is removed when fimd is off, fimd_win_disable
will set the 'resume' flag of that window to zero and return.
So when fimd resumes, that window will not be resumed.
This patch is based on the following two patches:
http://git.chromium.org/gitweb/?p=chromiumos/third_party/kernel.git;a=commitdiff;h=341e973c967304976a762211b6465b0074de62efhttp://git.chromium.org/gitweb/?p=chromiumos/third_party/kernel.git;a=commitdiff;h=cfa22e49b7408547c73532c4bb03de47cc034a05
These two patches are rebased onto the current kernel with
additional changes like removing 'fimd_win_commit' call from
the resume function since this is taken care by encoder
dpms, and the modification of resume flag in win_disable.

Changelog v2:
remove unnecessay wait_for_vblank call.
- with this patch, wait_for_vblank callback is moved from
overlay ops to manager ops so it should be removed and
it doesn't need to wait vblank signal at plane disable.

With this patch, When dma_buf_unmap_attachment is called,
the pages of sgt aren't unmapped from iommu table.
Instead, when dma_buf_detach is called, that would be done.
And also removes exynos_get_sgt function used to get clone sgt
and uses attachment's sgt instead. This patch would resolve
performance deterioration issue when v4l2-based driver is using
the buffer imported from gem.

Commit 0e8276ef75 (OMAPDSS: DPI: always
use DSI PLL if available) made dpi.c use DSI PLL for its clock. This
works fine, for DPI, but has a nasty side effect on OMAP3:
On OMAP3 the same clock is used for DISPC fclk and LCD output. Thus,
after the above patch, DSI PLL is used for DISPC and LCD output. If
TV-out is used, the TV-out needs DISPC. And if DPI is turned off, the
DSI PLL is also turned off, disabling DISPC.
For this to work, we'd need proper DSS internal clock handling, with
refcounts, which is a non-trivial project.
This patch fixes the issue for now by disabling the use of DSI PLL for
DPI on OMAP3.

If you create a block2mtd device that is larger than main memory,
and write to all of it, then lots of pages will be dirtied but
they will never be flushed out as nothing calls any variant of
balance_dirty_pages.
It would be nice to call set_page_dirty_balance(), but that isn't exported,
so just call balance_dirty_pages_ratelimited() directly.

It could happen (1 out of 100 times) that NAND did not start up
correctly after warm rebooting, so the kernel could not find the UBI or
DMA timed out due to a stalled BCH. When resetting BCH together with
GPMI, the issue could not be observed anymore (after 10000+ reboots). We
probably need the consistent state already before sending any command to
NAND, even when no ECC is needed. I chose to keep the extra reset for
BCH when changing the flash layout to be on the safe side.

handle_stripe_expansion contains:
if (tx) {
async_tx_ack(tx);
dma_wait_for_async_tx(tx);
}
which is very similar to the body of async_tx_quiesce(),
except that the later handles an error from dma_wait_for_async_tx()
(admittedly by panicing, but that decision belongs in the dma
code, not the md code).
So just us async_tx_quiesce().

If a resync is aborted cleanly, ->curr_resync is a reliable
record of where we got up to.
If there was an error it is less reliable but we always know that
->curr_resync_completed is safe.
So add a flag MD_RECOVERY_ERROR to differentiate between these cases
and set recovery_cp accordingly.

md will current only only checkpoint recovery or resync ever 1/16th
of the device size. As devices get larger this can become a long time
an so a lot of work that might need to be duplicated after a shutdown.
So add a time-based checkpoint. Every 5 minutes limits the amount of
duplicated effort to at most 5 minutes, and has almost zero impact on
performance.

The lockdep warning below is in theory correct but it will be in really weird
rare situation that ends up that deadlock since the tcm fc session is hashed
based the rport id. Nonetheless, the complaining below is about rcu callback
that does the transport_deregister_session() is happening in softirq, where
transport_register_session() that happens earlier is not. This triggers the
lockdep warning below. So, just fix this to make lockdep happy by disabling
the soft irq before calling transport_register_session() in ft_prli.
BTW, this was found in FCoE VN2VN over two VMs, couple of create and destroy
would get this triggered.
v1: was enforcing register to be in softirq context which was not righ. See,
http://www.spinics.net/lists/target-devel/msg03614.html
v2: following comments from Roland&Nick (thanks), it seems we don't have to
do transport_deregister_session() in rcu callback, so move it into ft_sess_free()
but still do kfree() of the corresponding ft_sess struct in rcu callback to
make sure the ft_sess is not freed till the rcu callback.

If the TPG memory is allocated successfully, but we fail further along

We need a node which only contains movable memory. This feature is very
important for node hotplug. If a node has normal/highmem, the memory may
be used by the kernel and can't be offlined. If the node only contains
movable memory, we can offline the memory and the node.
All are prepared, we can actually introduce N_MEMORY.

its fence value. This ensure that it doesn't try to use scratch
register for dma ring fence driver.
Should fix:

Pull big execve/kernel_thread/fork unification series from Al Viro:
"All architectures are converted to new model. Quite a bit of that
stuff is actually shared with architecture trees; in such cases it's
literally shared branch pulled by both, not a cherry-pick.
A lot of ugliness and black magic is gone (-3KLoC total in this one):
- kernel_thread()/kernel_execve()/sys_execve() redesign.
We don't do syscalls from kernel anymore for either kernel_thread()
or kernel_execve():
kernel_thread() is essentially clone(2) with callback run before we
return to userland, the callbacks either never return or do
successful do_execve() before returning.
kernel_execve() is a wrapper for do_execve() - it doesn't need to
do transition to user mode anymore.
As a result kernel_thread() and kernel_execve() are
arch-independent now - they live in kernel/fork.c and fs/exec.c
resp. sys_execve() is also in fs/exec.c and it's completely
architecture-independent.
- daemonize() is gone, along with its parts in fs/*.c
- struct pt_regs * is no longer passed to do_fork/copy_process/
copy_thread/do_execve/search_binary_handler/->load_binary/do_coredump.
- sys_fork()/sys_vfork()/sys_clone() unified; some architectures
still need wrappers (ones with callee-saved registers not saved in
pt_regs on syscall entry), but the main part of those suckers is in
kernel/fork.c now."

series of ARMv7 platforms from them, where the hope is that we can
keep the platform code generic enough to have them all share one mach

Highbank has grown support for Calxeda's next generation of hardware,

various bugs in the hardware-assisted flow control, extending up into
serial_core for a couple of issues. These fixes have been done as a
set of progressive changes and transformations in the hope that no new
bugs will be introduced by this series.
The problems are many-fold, from the driver not being informed about
updated settings, to the driver not knowing what the intentions of the
upper layers are.
The first four patches tackle the serial_core layer, allowing it to
provide the necessary information to drivers, and the remaining
patches allow the OMAP serial driver to take advantage of this.
This brings hardware assisted RTS/CTS and XON/OFF flow control into a

The previous patch changes dispc to get the dispc fck rate from dss core
driver. This was the only use of the dispc fck in dispc, and thus we can
now remove the clock handling.
Signed-off-by: Tomi Valkeinen <tomi.valkeinen@ti.com>
Dispc currently gets dispc's fck with clk_get() and uses clk_get_rate()
to get the rate for scaling calculations. This causes a problem with
common clock framework, as omapdss uses the dispc functions inside a
spinlock, and common clock framework uses a mutex in clk_get_rate().
Looking at the DSS clock tree, the above use of the dispc fck is not
quite correct. The DSS_FCLK from PRCM goes to DSS core block, which has
a mux to select the clock for DISPC from various options, so the current
use of dispc fck bypasses that. Fortunately we never change the dispc
clock mux for now.
To fix the issue with clk_get_rate(), this patch caches the dss clock
rate in dss.c when it is set. Dispc will then ask for the clock rate
from dss. While this is not very elegant, it does fix the issue, and
it's not totally wrong when considering that the dispc fck actually
comes via dss.
In the future we should probably look into common clock framework and
see if that could be used to represent the DSS clock tree properly.

Add online_movable and online_kernel for logic memory hotplug. This is
the dynamic version of "movablecore" & "kernelcore".
We have the same reason to introduce it as to introduce "movablecore" &
"kernelcore". It has the same motive as "movablecore" & "kernelcore", but
it is dynamic/running-time:
o We can configure memory as kernelcore or movablecore after boot.
Userspace workload is increased, we need more hugepage, we can't use
"online_movable" to add memory and allow the system use more
THP(transparent-huge-page), vice-verse when kernel workload is increase.
Also help for virtualization to dynamic configure host/guest's memory,
to save/(reduce waste) memory.
Memory capacity on Demand
o When a new node is physically online after boot, we need to use
"online_movable" or "online_kernel" to configure/portion it as we
expected when we logic-online it.
This configuration also helps for physically-memory-migrate.
o all benefit as the same as existed "movablecore" & "kernelcore".
o Preparing for movable-node, which is very important for power-saving,
hardware partitioning and high-available-system(hardware fault
management).
(Note, we don't introduce movable-node here.)
Action behavior:
When a memoryblock/memorysection is onlined by "online_movable", the kernel
will not have directly reference to the page of the memoryblock,
thus we can remove that memory any time when needed.
When it is online by "online_kernel", the kernel can use it.
When it is online by "online", the zone type doesn't changed.
Current constraints:
Only the memoryblock which is adjacent to the ZONE_MOVABLE
can be online from ZONE_NORMAL to ZONE_MOVABLE.

Memory fragmentation introduced by ballooning might reduce significantly
the number of 2MB contiguous memory blocks that can be used within a guest,
thus imposing performance penalties associated with the reduced number of
transparent huge pages that could be used by the guest workload.
Besides making balloon pages movable at allocation time and introducing
the necessary primitives to perform balloon page migration/compaction,
this patch also introduces the following locking scheme, in order to
enhance the syncronization methods for accessing elements of struct
virtio_balloon, thus providing protection against concurrent access
introduced by parallel memory migration threads.
- balloon_lock (mutex) : synchronizes the access demand to elements of
struct virtio_balloon and its queue operations;

When calling unregister_node(), the function shows following message at
device_release().
"Device 'node2' does not have a release() function, it is broken and must

The reason is node's device struct does not have a release() function.
So the patch registers node_device_release() to the device's release()
function for suppressing the warning message. Additionally, the patch
adds memset() to initialize a node struct into register_node(). Because
the node struct is part of node_devices[] array and it cannot be freed by

Some MSI laptop BIOSes are broken - INT 15h code uses port 92h to enable A20
line but resume code assumes that KBC was used.
The laptop will not resume from S3 otherwise but powers off after a while
and then powers on again stuck with a blank screen.
Fix it by enabling A20 using KBC in i8042_platform_init for x86.

Here's the big set of USB patches for 3.8-rc1.
Lots of USB host driver cleanups in here, and a bit of a reorg of the
EHCI driver to make it easier for the different EHCI platform drivers to
all work together nicer, which was a reduction in overall code. We also
deleted some unused firmware files, and got rid of the very old
file_storage usb gadget driver that had been broken for a long time.
This means we ended up removing way more code than added, always a nice
thing to see:

Other than that, the usual set of new device ids, driver fixes, gadget

Here's the big staging tree merge for 3.8-rc1
There's a lot of patches in here, the majority being the comedi rework/cleanup
that has been ongoing and is causing a huge reduction in overall code size,
which is amazing to watch. We also removed some older drivers (telephony and
rts_pstor), and added a new one (fwserial which also came in through the tty

The iio and ipack drivers are moving out of the staging area into their

Here is the "big" char/misc driver patches for 3.8-rc1. I'm starting to

Nothing major here, the various __dev* removals, some mei driver

Note, some MFD drivers got added through this tree, and they are also
coming in through the "real" MFD tree as well, due to some major

Here's the large driver core updates for 3.8-rc1.
The biggest thing here is the various __dev* marking removals. This is
going to be a pain for the merge with different subsystem trees, I know,
but all of the patches included here have been ACKed by their various
subsystem maintainers, as they wanted them to go through here.
If this is too much of a pain, I can pull all of them out of this tree
and just send you one with the other fixes/updates and then, after
3.8-rc1 is out, do the rest of the removals to ensure we catch them all,
it's up to you. The merges should all be trivial, and Stephen has been
doing them all in linux-next for a few weeks now quite easily.
Other than the __dev* marking removals, there's nothing major here, some
firmware loading updates and other minor things in the driver core.
All of these have (much to Stephen's annoyance), been in linux-next for
a while.

the associated ACKed platform changes under
arch/arm/max-at91 and its device trees. This
has been coordinated with the AT91 maintainers
to go in through the pinctrl tree.
- A larger chunk of changes to the SPEAr drivers
and the addition of the "plgpio" driver for the
SPEAr as well.
- The removal of the remnants of the Nomadik driver
from the arch/arm tree and fusion of that into
the Nomadik driver and platform data header files.
- Some local movement in the Marvell MVEBU drivers,
these now have their own subdirectory.
- The addition of a chunk of code to gpiolib under
drivers/gpio to register gpio-to-pin range mappings
from the GPIO side of things. This has been
requested by Grant Likely and is now implemented,
it is particularly useful for device tree work.
Then we have incremental updates all over the place,
many of these are cleanups and fixes from Axel Lin
who has done a great job of removing minor mistakes
and compilation annoyances.

The PCI flag is misleading as this stands for "program controlled interrupt".
Rename it to PRI "program requested interrupt" which is more accurate and
does not interfere with another popular piece of technology.
Leave the pci string in the code since changing that would result in a huge

The commit [23670b322: drm/i915: CPT+ pch transcoder workaround]
caused a regression on some HP laptops with IvyBridge. The whole
laptop screen is shifted downward for a few pixels constantly.
The problem appears only on LVDS while DP and VGA seem unaffected.
Also, the problem disappears once when go and back from S3.
(S4 resume still shows the same problem.)
This patch revives the minimum part the commit above dropped.
For fixing this regression, only the setup of CHICKEN2 bit in
cpt_init_clock_gating() is needed.

This commit changes the CMA early initialization code to use phys_addr_t
for representing physical addresses instead of unsigned long.
Without this change, among other things, dma_declare_contiguous() simply
discards any memory regions whose address is not representable as unsigned
long.
This is a problem on 32-bit PAE machines where unsigned long is 32-bit
but physical address space is larger.

Some gate clocks have special needs which must be handled during the
disable-unused clocks sequence. These needs might be driven by software
due to the fact that we're disabling a clock outside of the normal
clk_disable path and a clk's enable_count will not be accurate. On the
other hand a specific hardware programming sequence might need to be
followed for this corner case.
This change is needed for the upcoming OMAP port to the common clock
framework. Specifically, it is undesirable to treat the disable-unused
path identically to the normal clk_disable path since other software
layers are involved. In this case OMAP's clockdomain code throws WARNs
and bails early due to the clock's enable_count being set to zero. A
custom callback mitigates this problem nicely.

When we remove a device from an md array, the final removal of
the "dev-XX" sys entry is run asynchronously.
If we then re-add that device immediately before the worker thread
gets to run, we can end up trying to add the "dev-XX" sysfs entry back
before it has been removed.
So in both places where we add a device, call
flush_workqueue(md_misc_wq);
before taking the md lock (as holding the md lock can prevent removal
to complete).

This can lead to a panic if the driver isn't ready to
handle them. Since our interrupt line is shared, we can get
an interrupt at any time (and CONFIG_DEBUG_SHIRQ checks
that even when the interrupt is being freed).
If the op_mode has gone away, we musn't call it. To avoid
this the transport disables the interrupts when the hw is
stopped and the op_mode is leaving.
If there is an event that would cause an interrupt the INTA
register is updated regardless of the enablement of the
interrupts: even if the interrupts are disabled, the INTA
will be changed, but the device won't issue an interrupt.
But the ISR can be called at any time, so we ought ignore
the value in the INTA otherwise we can call the op_mode
after it was freed.
I found this bug when the op_mode_start failed, and called
iwl_trans_stop_hw(trans, true). Then I played with the
RFKILL button, and removed the module.
While removing the module, the IRQ is freed, and the ISR is
called (CONFIG_DEBUG_SHIRQ enabled). Panic.

The calibration data for devices w/o a separate
EEPROM chip can be specified via the 'eeprom_data'
field of 'ath9k_platform_data'. The 'eeprom_data'
is usually filled from board specific setup

to the memory, but it can be complicated if it is
stored elsewhere.

While AR_PHY_CCA_NOM_VAL_* does contain the expected internal noise floor
for a chip measured in clean air, it refers to the lowest expected reading.
Depending on the frequency, this measurement can vary by about 6db, thus
causing a higher reported channel noise and signal strength.
Factor in the 6db offset when converting internal noisefloor to channel noise.

Recent versions of udev cause synchronous firmware loading from the
probe routine to fail because the request to user space times out.
The original fix for b43legacy (commit a3ea2c7) moved the firmware
load from the probe routine to a work queue, but it still used synchronous
firmware loading. This method is OK when b43legacy is built as a module;
however, it fails when the driver is compiled into the kernel.
This version changes the code to load the initial firmware file
using request_firmware_nowait(). A completion event is used to
hold the work queue until that file is available. The remaining
firmware files are read synchronously.

The {read, write}s{b,w,l} operations are not defined by all architectures
and are being removed from the asm-generic/io.h interface.
This patch replaces the usage of these string functions in the default
SMC accessors with io{read,write}{8,16,32}_rep calls instead, which are
defined for all architectures.

sdhci-acpi supports ACPI devices which have compatibility ID
PNP0D40, however it is not possible to know if those devices
will all work correctly with runtime-pm, so that must be configured
per hardware ID.
For INT33C6, several related quirks, capabilities and flags are set:
MMC_CAP_NONREMOVABLE
The SDIO card will never be removable
SDHCI_ACPI_RUNTIME_PM
Enable runtime-pm of the host controller
MMC_CAP_POWER_OFF_CARD
Enable runtime-pm of the SDIO card
MMC_PM_KEEP_POWER
SDIO card has the capability to remain powered up
during system suspend
SDHCI_QUIRK2_HOST_OFF_CARD_ON
Always do a full reset during system resume
because the card may be already initialized having
not been powered off.
Wake-ups from the INT33C6 host controller are not supported, so the
following capability must *not* be set:
MMC_PM_WAKE_SDIO_IRQ
Enable wake on card interrupt

This reverts commits a50915394f and
d7c3b937bd.
This is a revert of a revert of a revert. In addition, it reverts the
even older i915 change to stop using the __GFP_NO_KSWAPD flag due to the
original commits in linux-next.
It turns out that the original patch really was bogus, and that the
original revert was the correct thing to do after all. We thought we
had fixed the problem, and then reverted the revert, but the problem
really is fundamental: waking up kswapd simply isn't the right thing to
do, and direct reclaim sometimes simply _is_ the right thing to do.
When certain allocations fail, we simply should try some direct reclaim,
and if that fails, fail the allocation. That's the right thing to do
for THP allocations, which can easily fail, and the GPU allocations want
to do that too.
So starting kswapd is sometimes simply wrong, and removing the flag that
said "don't start kswapd" was a mistake. Let's hope we never revisit
this mistake again - and certainly not this many times ;)

Avoid doing a linear scan of the entire register map for each read() of
the debugfs register dump by recording the offsets where valid registers
exist when we first read the registers file. This assumes the set of
valid registers never changes, if this is not the case invalidation of
the cache will be required.
This could be further improved for large blocks of contiguous registers
by calculating the register we will read from within the block - currently
we do a linear scan of the block. An rbtree may also be worthwhile.

in the buffer, we are unlikely to be able to allocate a buffer
sufficiently big to overflow here.

This patch solves a NULL pointer dereference, this may occur if the tuple
is not mappable (jumps to continue in the for-loop). Out of the loop
possible results are:
- info->list_size == 0 if no of the tuples is mappable
- info->list_size == 1
- info->list_size > 1
If no one of the supplied tuples is mappable (info->list_size == 0) and
info->cmtd will not be set. But it is used in mtd_device_parse_register, OOPS!
actually it should generate an error in this case!

Technologic Systems TS-5500 provides digital I/O lines exposed through
pin blocks. On this platform, there are three of them, named DIO1, DIO2

All items on the lru list are always reservable, so this is a stupid
thing to keep. Not only that, it is used in a way which would
guarantee deadlocks if it were ever to be set to block on reserve.
This is a lot of churn, but mostly because of the removal of the
argument which can be nested arbitrarily deeply in many places.
No change of code in this patch except removal of the no_wait_reserve
argument, the previous patch removed the use of no_wait_reserve.
v2:
- Warn if -EBUSY is returned on reservation, all objects on the list
should be reservable. Adjusted patch slightly due to conflicts.
v3:
- Focus on no_wait_reserve removal only.

Replace the goto loop with a simple for each loop, and only run the
delayed destroy cleanup if we can reserve the buffer first.
No race occurs, since lru lock is never dropped any more. An empty list
and a list full of unreservable buffers both cause -EBUSY to be returned,
which is identical to the previous situation, because previously buffers
on the lru list were always guaranteed to be reservable.
This should work since currently ttm guarantees items on the lru are
always reservable, and reserving items blockingly with some bo held
are enough to cause you to run into a deadlock.
Currently this is not a concern since removal off the lru list and
reservations are always done with atomically, but when this guarantee
no longer holds, we have to handle this situation or end up with
possible deadlocks.
