Here is the "big" driver core and debugfs update for 5.12-rc1
This set of driver core patches caused a bunch of problems in linux-next
for the past few weeks, when Saravana tried to set fw_devlink=on as the
default functionality. This caused a number of systems to stop booting,
and lots of bugs were fixed in this area for almost all of the reported
systems, but this option is not ready to be turned on just yet for the
default operation based on this testing, so I've reverted that change at
the very end so we don't have to worry about regressions in 5.12. We
will try to turn this on for 5.13 if testing goes better over the next
few months.
Other than the fixes caused by the fw_devlink testing in here, there's
not much more:
- debugfs fixes for invalid input into debugfs_lookup()
- kerneldoc cleanups
- warn message if platform drivers return an error on their
remove callback (a futile effort, but good to catch).
All of these have been in linux-next for a while now, and the
regressions have gone away with the revert of the fw_devlink change.

This allows fw_devlink to recognize power domain drivers that don't use
the device-driver model to initialize the device. fw_devlink will use
this information to make sure consumers of such power domain aren't
indefinitely blocked from probing, waiting for the power domain device
to appear and bind to a driver.

Driver of a power domain provider may not be ready at the time of
of_genpd_add_subdomain() invocation. Make this function to return
-EPROBE_DEFER instead of -ENOENT in order to remove a need from
power domain drivers to handle the error code specially.

Make set_performance_state() callback optional in order to remove the
need from power domain drivers to implement a dummy callback. If callback
isn't implemented by a GENPD driver, then the performance state is passed
to the parent domain.

Some devices may have a predictable interrupt pattern while executing
usecases. An example would be the VSYNC interrupt associated with
display devices. A 60 Hz display could cause a interrupt every 16 ms. If
the device were in a PM domain, the domain would need to be powered up
for device to resume and handle the interrupt.
Entering a domain idle state saves power, only if the residency of the
idle state is met. Without knowing the idle duration of the domain, the
governor would just choose the deepest idle state that matches the QoS
requirements. The domain might be powered off just as the device is
expecting to wake up. If devices could inform PM frameworks of their
next event, the parent PM domain's idle duration can be determined.
So let's add the dev_pm_genpd_set_next_wakeup() API for the device to
inform PM domains of the impending wakeup. This information will be the
domain governor to determine the best idle state given the wakeup.

It has been found that some users (like cpufreq-dt and others on LKML)
have abused the helper dev_pm_opp_get_opp_table() to create the OPP
table instead of just finding it, which is the wrong thing to do. This
routine was meant for OPP core's internal working and exposed the whole
functionality by mistake.
Change the scope of dev_pm_opp_get_opp_table() to only finding the
table. The internal helpers _opp_get_opp_table*() are thus renamed to
_add_opp_table*(), dev_pm_opp_get_opp_table_indexed() is removed (as we
don't need the index field for finding the OPP table) and so the only
user, genpd, is updated.
Note that the prototype of _add_opp_table() was already left in opp.h by
mistake when it was removed earlier and so we weren't required to add it
now.

The dev_pm_genpd_suspend|resume() have so far only been used during the
syscore suspend/resume phases. However, during suspend-to-idle, where the
syscore phases doesn't exist, similar operations are sometimes needed.
An existing example are the timekeeping_suspend|resume() functions, which
are being called both through a registered syscore ops during the syscore
phases, but also as regular functions calls from cpuidle (via
tick_freeze()) during suspend-to-idle.
For similar reasons, let's enable the dev_pm_genpd_suspend|resume() APIs to
be re-used for corresponding CPU devices that are attached to a genpd,
during suspend-to-idle.

To better describe what the pm_genpd_syscore_poweroff|poweron() functions
actually do, let's rename them to dev_pm_genpd_suspend|resume() and update
the rather few callers of them accordingly (a couple of clocksource
drivers).
Moreover, let's take the opportunity to add some documentation of these
exported functions, as that is currently missing.

The __raw_notifier_call_chain() was recently removed and replaced with
raw_notifier_call_chain_robust(). Recent changes to genpd didn't take that
into account, which causes a build error. Let's fix this by converting to
the raw_notifier_call_chain_robust() in genpd.

To enable better debug of PM domains, keep a track of successful
and failing attempts to enter each domain idle state.
This statistics are exported in debugfs when reading the
idle_states node associated with each PM domain.

A device may have specific HW constraints that must be obeyed to, before
its corresponding PM domain (genpd) can be powered off - and vice verse at
power on. These constraints can't be managed through the regular runtime PM
based deployment for a device, because the access pattern for it, isn't
always request based. In other words, using the runtime PM callbacks to
deal with the constraints doesn't work for these cases.
For these reasons, let's instead add a PM domain power on/off notification
mechanism to genpd. To add/remove a notifier for a device, the device must
already have been attached to the genpd, which also means that it needs to
be a part of the PM domain topology.
To add/remove a notifier, let's introduce two genpd specific functions:
- dev_pm_genpd_add|remove_notifier()
Note that, to further clarify when genpd power on/off notifiers may be
used, one can compare with the existing CPU_CLUSTER_PM_ENTER|EXIT
notifiers. In the long run, the genpd power on/off notifiers should be able
to replace them, but that requires additional genpd based platform support
for the current users.

In genpd_power_off() we may decide to abort the power off of the PM domain,
even beyond the point when the governor would accept it. The abort is done
if it turns out that a child domain has been requested to be powered on,
which means it's waiting for the lock of the parent to be released.
However, the abort is currently only considered if the genpd in question
has a ->power_off() callback assigned. This is unnecessary limiting,
especially if the genpd would have a parent of its own. Let's remove the
limitation and make the behaviour consistent.

The OPP core manages various resources, e.g. clocks or interconnect paths.
These resources are looked up when the OPP table is allocated once
dev_pm_opp_get_opp_table() is called the first time (either directly
or indirectly through one of the many helper functions).
At this point, the resources may not be available yet, i.e. looking them
up will result in -EPROBE_DEFER. Unfortunately, dev_pm_opp_get_opp_table()
is currently unable to propagate this error code since it only returns
the allocated OPP table or NULL.
This means that all consumers of the OPP core are required to make sure
that all necessary resources are available. Usually this happens by
requesting them, checking the result and releasing them immediately after.
For example, we have added "dev_pm_opp_of_find_icc_paths(dev, NULL)" to
several drivers now just to make sure the interconnect providers are
ready before the OPP table is allocated. If this call is missing,
the OPP core will only warn about this and then attempt to continue
without interconnect. This will eventually fail horribly, e.g.:

This example happens when trying to use interconnects for a CPU OPP
table together with qcom-cpufreq-nvmem.c. qcom-cpufreq-nvmem calls
dev_pm_opp_set_supported_hw(), which ends up allocating the OPP table
early. To fix the problem with the current approach we would need to add
yet another call to dev_pm_opp_of_find_icc_paths(dev, NULL).
But actually qcom-cpufreq-nvmem.c has nothing to do with interconnects...
This commit attempts to make this more robust by allowing
dev_pm_opp_get_opp_table() to return an error pointer. Fixing all
the usages is trivial because the function is usually used indirectly
through another helper (e.g. dev_pm_opp_set_supported_hw() above).
These other helpers already return an error pointer.
The example above then works correctly because set_supported_hw() will
return -EPROBE_DEFER, and qcom-cpufreq-nvmem.c already propagates that
error. It should also be possible to remove the remaining usages of
"dev_pm_opp_of_find_icc_paths(dev, NULL)" from other drivers as well.
Note that this commit currently only handles -EPROBE_DEFER for the
clock/interconnects within _allocate_opp_table(). Other errors are just
ignored as before. Eventually those should be propagated as well.

The genpd infrastructure uses the terms master/slave, but such uses have
no external exposures (not even in Documentation/driver-api/pm/*) and are
not mandated by nor associated with any external specifications. Change
the language used through-out to parent/child.
There was one possible exception in the debugfs node
"pm_genpd/pm_genpd_summary" but its path has no hits outside of the
kernel itself when performing a code search[1], and it seems even this
single usage has been non-functional since it was introduced due to a
typo in the Python ("apend" instead of correct "append"). Fix the typo
while we're at it.

Commit 2c36168480 ("PM / Domains: Don't treat zero found compatible idle
states as an error"), moved of_genpd_parse_idle_states() towards allowing
none compatible idle state to be found for the device node, rather than
returning an error code.
However, it didn't consider that the "domain-idle-states" DT property may
be missing as it's optional, which makes of_count_phandle_with_args() to
return -ENOENT. Let's fix this to make the behaviour consistent.

The intent with walking the gpd_list via calling genpd_present() from
genpd_syscore_switch(), is to make sure the dev->pm_domain pointer belongs
to a registered genpd. However, as a genpd can't be removed if there is a
device attached to it, let's convert to use the quicker dev_to_genpd_safe()
instead.
Due to the above change, this allows us to clean up genpd_present() and
move it inside CONFIG_PM_GENERIC_DOMAINS_OF, so let's do that as well.

The dev_pm_genpd_set_performance_state() could in principle be called for a
device that has a different PM domain type attached than a genpd. This
would lead to a problem as dev_to_genpd() uses the container_of macro.
Address this problem by using dev_to_genpd_safe() instead.

genpd_lookup_dev(), is a bit unnecessary heavy, as it walks the gpd_list to
try to find a valid PM domain corresponding to the device's attached genpd.
Instead of walking the gpd_list, let's use the fact that a genpd always has
the ->runtime_suspend() callback assigned to the genpd_runtime_suspend()
function.
While changing this, let's take the opportunity to also rename
genpd_lookup_dev(), into dev_to_genpd_safe() to better reflect its purpose.

In order to use the same set of routines to register notifiers for
different request types, update the existing
dev_pm_qos_{add|remove}_notifier() routines with an additional
parameter: request-type.
For now, it only supports resume-latency request type but will be
extended to frequency limit (min/max) constraints later on.

- Fix recent regression causing kernels built with CONFIG_PM
unset to crash on systems that support the Performance and
Energy Bias Hint (EPB) by avoiding to compile the EPB-related
code depending on CONFIG_PM when it is unset (Rafael Wysocki).

core and change some users of cpufreq transition notifiers

There are a number of ACPI patches in here as well, as Rafael said they
should go through this tree due to the driver core changes they
required. They have all been acked by the ACPI developers.
There are also a number of small subsystem-specific changes in here, due
to some changes to the kobject core code. Those too have all been acked
by the various subsystem maintainers.
As for content, it's pretty boring outside of the ACPI changes:
- spdx cleanups
- kobject documentation updates
- default attribute groups for kobjects
- other minor kobject/driver core fixes
All have been in linux-next for a while with no reported issues.

Attaching a device via genpd_dev_pm_attach_by_id|name() makes
genpd allocate a virtual device that it attaches instead. This
leads to a problem in case when the base device belongs to a CPU.
More precisely, it means genpd_get_cpu() compares against the
virtual device, thus it fails to find a matching CPU device.
Address this limitation by passing the base device to genpd_get_cpu()
rather than the virtual device.
Moreover, to deal with detach correctly from genpd_remove_device(),
store the CPU number in struct generic_pm_domain_data, so as to be
able to clear the corresponding bit in the cpumask for the genpd.

While attaching/detaching a device to a PM domain (genpd) with
GENPD_FLAG_CPU_DOMAIN set, genpd iterates the cpu_possible_mask to
check whether or not the device corresponds to a CPU. This iteration
is done while holding the genpd's lock, which is unnecessary.
Avoid the locking by restructuring the corresponding code a bit.

genpd functions, allow a struct gpd_timing_data *td to be passed as an
in-parameter. However, as NULL is always passed, let's just drop the

When genpd fails to attach a device to one of its multiple PM domains,
we end up calling driver_deferred_probe_check_state() for the recently
allocated virtual device. This is incorrect, as it's the base device
that is being probed.
Fix this by passing along the base device to __genpd_dev_pm_attach()
and use that instead.

If a call to dev_pm_domain_attach() succeeds to attach a device to its
single PM domain, the important point is to prevent subsequent
dev_pm_domain_attach_by_name|id() calls from failing. That is done by
checking the dev->pm_domain pointer and then returning -EEXIST, rather
than continuing to call genpd_dev_pm_attach_by_id|name().
For this reason, enable genpd_dev_pm_attach_by_id|name() to be used for
single PM domains too. This simplifies future users, so they only need
to use dev_pm_domain_attach_by_id|name() instead of having to combine
it with dev_pm_domain_attach().

A genpd provider that uses the ->attach_dev() callback to look up
resources for a device fails to do so when the device has multiple
PM domains attached. That is because when genpd invokes the
->attach_dev() callback, it passes the allocated virtual device as
the in-parameter.
To address this problem, simply assign the dev->of_node for the
virtual device, based upon the original device's OF node.

To enable a CPU device to be attached to a PM domain managed by genpd,
make a few changes to it for convenience.
To be able to quickly find out what CPUs are attached to a genpd,
which typically becomes useful from a genpd governor as subsequent
changes are about to show, add a cpumask to struct generic_pm_domain
to be updated when a CPU device gets attached to the genpd containing
that cpumask. Also, propagate the cpumask changes upwards in the
domain hierarchy to the master PM domains. This way, the cpumask for
a genpd hierarchically reflects all CPUs attached to the topology
below it.
Finally, make this an opt-in feature, to avoid having to manage CPUs
and the cpumask for a genpd that don't need it. To that end, add
a new genpd configuration bit, GENPD_FLAG_CPU_DOMAIN.

Add a data pointer to the genpd_power_state struct, to allow a genpd
backend driver to store per-state specific data. To introduce the
pointer, change the way genpd deals with freeing of the corresponding
allocated data.
More precisely, clarify the responsibility of whom that shall free the
data, by adding a ->free_states() callback to the generic_pm_domain
structure. The one allocating the data will be expected to set the
callback, to allow genpd to invoke it from genpd_remove().
