RX packet processing holds rcu_read_lock(), so we can remove
pairs of rcu_read_lock()/rcu_read_unlock() in lookup functions
if inet_diag also holds rcu before calling them.
This is needed anyway as __inet_lookup_listener() and
inet6_lookup_listener() will soon no longer increment
refcount on the found listener.

Tom Herbert would like not touching UDP socket refcnt for encapsulated
traffic. For this to happen, we need to use normal RCU rules, with a grace
period before freeing a socket. UDP sockets are not short lived in the
high usage case, so the added cost of call_rcu() should not be a concern.
This actually removes a lot of complexity in UDP stack.
Multicast receives no longer need to hold a bucket spinlock.
Note that ip early demux still needs to take a reference on the socket.
Same remark for functions used by xt_socket and xt_PROXY netfilter modules,
but this might be changed later.

Currently, SOL_TIMESTAMPING can only be enabled using setsockopt.
This is very costly when users want to sample writes to gather
tx timestamps.
Add support for enabling SO_TIMESTAMPING via control messages by
using tsflags added in `struct sockcm_cookie` (added in the previous
patches in this series) to set the tx_flags of the last skb created in
a sendmsg. With this patch, the timestamp recording bits in tx_flags
of the skbuff is overridden if SO_TIMESTAMPING is passed in a cmsg.
Please note that this is only effective for overriding the recording
timestamps flags. Users should enable timestamp reporting (e.g.,
SOF_TIMESTAMPING_SOFTWARE | SOF_TIMESTAMPING_OPT_ID) using
socket options and then should ask for SOF_TIMESTAMPING_TX_*
using control messages per sendmsg to sample timestamps for each
write.

Process socket-level control messages by invoking
__sock_cmsg_send in ip6_datagram_send_ctl for control messages on
the SOL_SOCKET layer.
This makes sure whenever ip6_datagram_send_ctl is called for
udp and raw, we also process socket-level control messages.
This is a bit uglier than IPv4, since IPv6 does not have
something like ipcm_cookie. Perhaps we can later create
a control message cookie for IPv6?
Note that this commit interprets new control messages that
were ignored before. As such, this commit does not change
the behavior of IPv6 control messages.

In the mark_source_chains function (net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_tables.c) it
is possible for a user-supplied ipt_entry structure to have a large
next_offset field. This field is not bounds checked prior to writing a
counter value at the supplied offset.
Problem is that mark_source_chains should not have been called --
the rule doesn't have a next entry, so its supposed to return
an absolute verdict of either ACCEPT or DROP.
However, the function conditional() doesn't work as the name implies.
It only checks that the rule is using wildcard address matching.
However, an unconditional rule must also not be using any matches
(no -m args).
The underflow validator only checked the addresses, therefore
passing the 'unconditional absolute verdict' test, while
mark_source_chains also tested for presence of matches, and thus
proceeeded to the next (not-existent) rule.
Unify this so that all the callers have same idea of 'unconditional rule'.

If a packet is either locally encapsulated or processed through GRO
it is marked with the offloads that it requires. However, when it is
decapsulated these tunnel offload indications are not removed. This
means that if we receive an encapsulated TCP packet, aggregate it with
GRO, decapsulate, and retransmit the resulting frame on a NIC that does
not support encapsulation, we won't be able to take advantage of hardware
offloads even though it is just a simple TCP packet at this point.
This fixes the problem by stripping off encapsulation offload indications
when packets are decapsulated.
The performance impacts of this bug are significant. In a test where a
Geneve encapsulated TCP stream is sent to a hypervisor, GRO'ed, decapsulated,
and bridged to a VM performance is improved by 60% (5Gbps->8Gbps) as a
result of avoiding unnecessary segmentation at the VM tap interface.

When drivers express support for TSO of encapsulated packets, they
only mean that they can do it for one layer of encapsulation.
Supporting additional levels would mean updating, at a minimum,
more IP length fields and they are unaware of this.
No encapsulation device expresses support for handling offloaded
encapsulated packets, so we won't generate these types of frames
in the transmit path. However, GRO doesn't have a check for
multiple levels of encapsulation and will attempt to build them.
UDP tunnel GRO actually does prevent this situation but it only
handles multiple UDP tunnels stacked on top of each other. This
generalizes that solution to prevent any kind of tunnel stacking
that would cause problems.

Several patches from Jarno Rajahalme to prepare the introduction of
NAT support to OVS based on the Netfilter infrastructure:
10) Schedule IP_CT_NEW_REPLY definition for removal in
nf_conntrack_common.h.
11) Simplify checksumming recalculation in nf_nat.
12) Add comments to the openvswitch conntrack code, from Jarno.
13) Update the CT state key only after successful nf_conntrack_in()
invocation.
14) Find existing conntrack entry after upcall.
15) Handle NF_REPEAT case due to templates in nf_conntrack_in().
16) Call the conntrack helper functions once the conntrack has been
confirmed.
17) And finally, add the NAT interface to OVS.
The batch closes with:

Per RFC4898, they count segments sent/received
containing a positive length data segment (that includes
retransmission segments carrying data). Unlike
tcpi_segs_out/in, tcpi_data_segs_out/in excludes segments
carrying no data (e.g. pure ack).
The patch also updates the segs_in in tcp_fastopen_add_skb()
so that segs_in >= data_segs_in property is kept.
Together with retransmission data, tcpi_data_segs_out
gives a better signal on the rxmit rate.
v6: Rebase on the latest net-next
v5: Eric pointed out that checking skb->len is still needed in
tcp_fastopen_add_skb() because skb can carry a FIN without data.
Hence, instead of open coding segs_in and data_segs_in, tcp_segs_in()
helper is used. Comment is added to the fastopen case to explain why
segs_in has to be reset and tcp_segs_in() has to be called before
__skb_pull().
v4: Add comment to the changes in tcp_fastopen_add_skb()
and also add remark on this case in the commit message.
v3: Add const modifier to the skb parameter in tcp_segs_in()
v2: Rework based on recent fix by Eric:

This will allow us to better understand what limitations may or may not be
present in how we handle the data. For example there are a number of

and can be replaced with a multiplication by ntohl(1) which will be

Now that FIB6 walkers are separated per namespace, there is no more need

IPv4 interprets a negative return value from a protocol handler as a
request to redispatch to a new protocol. In contrast, IPv6 interprets a
negative value as an error, and interprets a positive value as a request
for redispatch.
UDP for IPv6 was unaware of this difference. Change __udp6_lib_rcv() to
return a positive value for redispatch. Note that the socket's
encap_rcv hook still needs to return a negative value to request
dispatch, and in the case of IPv6 packets, adjust IP6CB(skb)->nhoff to

When ipv6_find_hdr is used to find a fragment header
(caller specifies target NEXTHDR_FRAGMENT) we erronously return
-ENOENT for all fragments with nonzero offset.
Before commit 9195bb8e38, when target was specified, we did not
enter the exthdr walk loop as nexthdr == target so this used to work.
Now we do (so we can skip empty route headers). When we then stumble upon
a frag with nonzero frag_off we must return -ENOENT ("header not found")
only if the caller did not specifically request NEXTHDR_FRAGMENT.
This allows nfables exthdr expression to match ipv6 fragments, e.g. via
nft add rule ip6 filter input frag frag-off gt 0

In this representation, hlen + data + tlen is the size passed to alloc_skb.
"extra" is the extra space made available in __alloc_skb because of

head skb_end_offset
The maximum space available for ip headers and payload without
fragmentation is min(mtu, data + extra). Therefore,
reserved_tailroom
= data + extra + tlen - min(mtu, data + extra)
= skb_end_offset - hlen - min(mtu, skb_end_offset - hlen - tlen)
= skb_tailroom - min(mtu, skb_tailroom - tlen) ; after skb_reserve(hlen)
Compare the second line to the current expression:
reserved_tailroom = skb_end_offset - min(mtu, skb_end_offset)
and we can see that hlen and tlen are not taken into account.
The min() in the third line can be expanded into:
if mtu < skb_tailroom - tlen:
reserved_tailroom = skb_tailroom - mtu
else:
reserved_tailroom = tlen
Depending on hlen, tlen, mtu and the number of multicast address records,
the current code may output skbs that have less tailroom than
dev->needed_tailroom or it may output more skbs than needed because not all
space available is used.

delay hook registration until the table is being requested inside a
namespace.
Historically, a particular table (iptables mangle, ip6tables filter, etc)
was registered on module load.
When netns support was added to iptables only the ip/ip6tables ruleset was
made namespace aware, not the actual hook points.
This means f.e. that when ipt_filter table/module is loaded on a system,
then each namespace on that system has an (empty) iptables filter ruleset.
In other words, if a namespace sends a packet, such skb is 'caught' by
netfilter machinery and fed to hooking points for that table (i.e. INPUT,
FORWARD, etc).
Thanks to Eric Biederman, hooks are no longer global, but per namespace.
This means that we can avoid allocation of empty ruleset in a namespace and
defer hook registration until we need the functionality.
We register a tables hook entry points ONLY in the initial namespace.
When an iptables get/setockopt is issued inside a given namespace, we check
if the table is found in the per-namespace list.
If not, we attempt to find it in the initial namespace, and, if found,
create an empty default table in the requesting namespace and register the
needed hooks.
Hook points are destroyed only once namespace is deleted, there is no
'usage count' (it makes no sense since there is no 'remove table' operation
in xtables api).

This change prepares for upcoming on-demand xtables hook registration.
We change the protoypes of the register/unregister functions.
A followup patch will then add nf_hook_register/unregister calls
to the iptables one.
Once a hook is registered packets will be picked up, so all assignments
of the form
net->ipv4.iptable_$table = new_table
have to be moved to ip(6)t_register_table, else we can see NULL
net->ipv4.iptable_$table later.
This patch doesn't change functionality; without this the actual change
simply gets too big.

Commit f1705ec197 allows IPv6 addresses to be retained on a link down.
The address can have a cached host route which can point to the wrong
FIB table if the L3 enslavement is changed (e.g., route can point to local
table instead of VRF table if device is added to an L3 domain).
On link up check the table of the cached host route against the FIB
table associated with the device and correct if needed.

On reviewing the code I realized that GRE and UDP tunnels could cause a
kernel panic if we used GSO to segment a large UDP frame that was sent
through the tunnel with an outer checksum and hardware offloads were not
available.
In order to correct this we need to update the feature flags that are
passed to the skb_segment function so that in the event of UDP
fragmentation being requested for the inner header the segmentation
function will correctly generate the checksum for the payload if we cannot
segment the outer header.

IPCB may contain data from previous layers (in the observed case the
qdisc layer). In the observed scenario, the data was misinterpreted as
ip header options, which later caused the ihl to be set to an invalid
value (<5). This resulted in an infinite loop in the mips implementation
of ip_fast_csum.
This patch clears IPCB(skb)->opt before dst_link_failure can be called for
various types of tunnels. This change only applies to encapsulated ipv4
packets.
The code introduced in 11c21a30 which clears all of IPCB has been removed
to be consistent with these changes, and instead the opt field is cleared
unconditionally in ip_tunnel_xmit. The change in ip_tunnel_xmit applies to
SIT, GRE, and IPIP tunnels.
The relevant vti, l2tp, and pptp functions already contain similar code for
clearing the IPCB.

The arithmetic properties of the ones-complement checksum mean that a
correctly checksummed inner packet, including its checksum, has a ones
complement sum depending only on whatever value was used to initialise
the checksum field before checksumming (in the case of TCP and UDP,
this is the ones complement sum of the pseudo header, complemented).
Consequently, if we are going to offload the inner checksum with
CHECKSUM_PARTIAL, we can compute the outer checksum based only on the
packed data not covered by the inner checksum, and the initial value of
the inner checksum field.

add an option (sysctl) called "drop_unicast_in_l2_multicast" which, if
enabled, causes the stack to drop IPv6 unicast packets encapsulated in
link-layer multi- or broadcast frames. Such frames can (as an attack)
be created by any member of the same wireless network and transmitted
as valid encrypted frames since the symmetric key for broadcast frames
is shared between all stations.

This change extends the fast SO_REUSEPORT socket lookup implemented
for UDP to TCP. Listener sockets with SO_REUSEPORT and the same
receive address are additionally added to an array for faster
random access. This means that only a single socket from the group
must be found in the listener list before any socket in the group can
be used to receive a packet. Previously, every socket in the group
needed to be considered before handing off the incoming packet.
This feature also exposes the ability to use a BPF program when
selecting a socket from a reuseport group.

This is a preliminary step to allow fast socket lookup of SO_REUSEPORT
groups. Doing so with a BPF filter will require access to the

implementations where it will be used in a following patch.

In order to support fast lookups for TCP sockets with SO_REUSEPORT,
the function that adds sockets to the listening hash set needs
to be able to check receive address equality. Since this equality
check is different for IPv4 and IPv6, we will need two different
socket hashing functions.
This patch adds inet6_hash identical to the existing inet_hash function
and updates the appropriate references. A following patch will
differentiate the two by passing different comparison functions to
__inet_hash.
Additionally, in order to use the IPv6 address equality function from
inet6_hashtables (which is compiled as a built-in object when IPv6 is
enabled) it also needs to be in a built-in object file as well. This
moves ipv6_rcv_saddr_equal into inet_hashtables to accomplish this.

The current implementation of ip6_dst_lookup_tail basically
ignore the egress ifindex match: if the saddr is set,
ip6_route_output() purposefully ignores flowi6_oif, due
to the commit d46a9d678e ("net: ipv6: Dont add RT6_LOOKUP_F_IFACE
flag if saddr set"), if the saddr is 'any' the first route lookup
in ip6_dst_lookup_tail fails, but upon failure a second lookup will
be performed with saddr set, thus ignoring the ifindex constraint.
This commit adds an output route lookup function variant, which
allows the caller to specify lookup flags, and modify
ip6_dst_lookup_tail() to enforce the ifindex match on the second
lookup via said helper.
ip6_route_output() becames now a static inline function build on
top of ip6_route_output_flags(); as a side effect, out-of-tree
modules need now a GPL license to access the output route lookup
functionality.

Using a combination of connected and un-connected sockets, Dmitry
was able to trigger soft lockups with his fuzzer.
The problem is that sockets in the SO_REUSEPORT array might have
different scores.
Right after sk2=socket(), setsockopt(sk2,...,SO_REUSEPORT, on) and
bind(sk2, ...), but _before_ the connect(sk2) is done, sk2 is added into
the soreuseport array, with a score which is smaller than the score of
first socket sk1 found in hash table (I am speaking of the regular UDP
hash table), if sk1 had the connect() done, giving a +8 to its score.
hash bucket [X] -> sk1 -> sk2 -> NULL
sk1 score = 14 (because it did a connect())
sk2 score = 6
SO_REUSEPORT fast selection is an optimization. If it turns out the
score of the selected socket does not match score of first socket, just
fallback to old SO_REUSEPORT logic instead of trying to be too smart.
Normal SO_REUSEPORT users do not mix different kind of sockets, as this
mechanism is used for load balance traffic.

This socket-lookup path did not pass along the skb in question
in my original BPF-based socket selection patch. The skb in the
udpN_lib_lookup2 path can be used for BPF-based socket selection just
like it is in the 'traditional' udpN_lib_lookup path.
udpN_lib_lookup2 kicks in when there are greater than 10 sockets in
the same hlist slot. Coincidentally, I chose 10 sockets per
reuseport group in my functional test, so the lookup2 path was not
excersised. This adds an additional set of tests with 20 sockets.

Include a struct sock_reuseport instance when a UDP socket binds to
a specific address for the first time with the reuseport flag set.
When selecting a socket for an incoming UDP packet, use the information
available in sock_reuseport if present.
This required adding an additional field to the UDP source address
equality function to differentiate between exact and wildcard matches.
The original use case allowed wildcard matches when checking for
existing port uses during bind. The new use case of adding a socket
to a reuseport group requires exact address matching.
Performance test (using a machine with 2 CPU sockets and a total of
48 cores): Create reuseport groups of varying size. Use one socket
from this group per user thread (pinning each thread to a different
core) calling recvmmsg in a tight loop. Record number of messages
received per second while saturating a 10G link.
10 sockets: 18% increase (~2.8M -> 3.3M pkts/s)
20 sockets: 14% increase (~2.9M -> 3.3M pkts/s)
40 sockets: 13% increase (~3.0M -> 3.4M pkts/s)

Backport of this upstream commit into stable kernels :
89c22d8c3b ("net: Fix skb csum races when peeking")
exposed a bug in udp stack vs MSG_PEEK support, when user provides
a buffer smaller than skb payload.
In this case,
skb_copy_and_csum_datagram_iovec(skb, sizeof(struct udphdr),
msg->msg_iov);
returns -EFAULT.
This bug does not happen in upstream kernels since Al Viro did a great
job to replace this into :
skb_copy_and_csum_datagram_msg(skb, sizeof(struct udphdr), msg);
This variant is safe vs short buffers.
For the time being, instead reverting Herbert Xu patch and add back
skb->ip_summed invalid changes, simply store the result of
udp_lib_checksum_complete() so that we avoid computing the checksum a
second time, and avoid the problematic
skb_copy_and_csum_datagram_iovec() call.
This patch can be applied on recent kernels as it avoids a double
checksumming, then backported to stable kernels as a bug fix.

Allow accepted sockets to derive their sk_bound_dev_if setting from the
l3mdev domain in which the packets originated. A sysctl setting is added
to control the behavior which is similar to sk_mark and
sysctl_tcp_fwmark_accept.
This effectively allow a process to have a "VRF-global" listen socket,
with child sockets bound to the VRF device in which the packet originated.
A similar behavior can be achieved using sk_mark, but a solution using marks
is incomplete as it does not handle duplicate addresses in different L3
domains/VRFs. Allowing sockets to inherit the sk_bound_dev_if from l3mdev
domain provides a complete solution.

Add a new address generator mode, using the stable address generator
with an automatically generated secret. This is intended as a default
address generator mode for device types with no EUI64 implementation.
The new generator is used for ARPHRD_NONE interfaces initially, adding
default IPv6 autoconf support to e.g. tun interfaces.
If the addrgenmode is set to 'random', either by default or manually,
and no stable secret is available, then a random secret is used as
input for the stable-privacy address generator. The secret can be
read and modified like manually configured secrets, using the proc
interface. Modifying the secret will change the addrgen mode to
'stable-privacy' to indicate that it operates on a known secret.
Existing behaviour of the 'stable-privacy' mode is kept unchanged. If
a known secret is available when the device is created, then the mode
will default to 'stable-privacy' as before. The mode can be manually
set to 'random' but it will behave exactly like 'stable-privacy' in
this case. The secret will not change.

I am seeing a crash on a distro V4.2.3 kernel caused by a double
release of a dst_entry. In ipv4_dst_destroy() the call to
list_empty() finds a poisoned next pointer, indicating the dst_entry
has already been removed from the list and freed. The crash occurs
18 to 24 hours into a run of a network stress exerciser.
</quote>
Thanks to his detailed report and analysis, we were able to understand
the core issue.
IP early demux can associate a dst to skb, after a lookup in TCP/UDP
sockets.
When socket cache is not properly set, we want to store into
sk->sk_dst_cache the dst for future IP early demux lookups,
by acquiring a stable refcount on the dst.
Problem is this acquisition is simply using an atomic_inc(),
which works well, unless the dst was queued for destruction from
dst_release() noticing dst refcount went to zero, if DST_NOCACHE
was set on dst.
We need to make sure current refcount is not zero before incrementing
it, or risk double free as David reported.
This patch, being a stable candidate, adds two new helpers, and use
them only from IP early demux problematic paths.
It might be possible to merge in net-next skb_dst_force() and
skb_dst_force_safe(), but I prefer having the smallest patch for stable
kernels : Maybe some skb_dst_force() callers do not expect skb->dst
can suddenly be cleared.
Can probably be backported back to linux-3.6 kernels

This patch removes ARPHRD_IEEE802154 from addrconf handling. In the
earlier days of 802.15.4 6LoWPAN, the interface type was ARPHRD_IEEE802154
which introduced several issues, because 802.15.4 interfaces used the
same type.
Since commit 965e613d29 ("ieee802154: 6lowpan: fix ARPHRD to
ARPHRD_6LOWPAN") we use ARPHRD_6LOWPAN for 6LoWPAN interfaces. This
patch will remove ARPHRD_IEEE802154 which is currently deadcode, because
ARPHRD_IEEE802154 doesn't reach the minimum 1280 MTU of IPv6.
Also we use 6LoWPAN EUI64 specific defines instead using link-layer
constanst from 802.15.4 link-layer header.

郭永刚 reported that one could simply crash the kernel as root by
using a simple program:
int socket_fd;
struct sockaddr_in addr;
addr.sin_port = 0;
addr.sin_addr.s_addr = INADDR_ANY;
addr.sin_family = 10;
socket_fd = socket(10,3,0x40000000);
connect(socket_fd , &addr,16);
AF_INET, AF_INET6 sockets actually only support 8-bit protocol
identifiers. inet_sock's skc_protocol field thus is sized accordingly,
thus larger protocol identifiers simply cut off the higher bits and
store a zero in the protocol fields.
This could lead to e.g. NULL function pointer because as a result of
the cut off inet_num is zero and we call down to inet_autobind, which
is NULL for raw sockets.

specifically for nf_tables and nfnetlink_queue, they are:
1) Avoid a compilation warning in nfnetlink_queue that was introduced
in the previous merge window with the simplification of the conntrack
integration, from Arnd Bergmann.
2) nfnetlink_queue is leaking the pernet subsystem registration from
a failure path, patch from Nikolay Borisov.
3) Pass down netns pointer to batch callback in nfnetlink, this is the
largest patch and it is not a bugfix but it is a dependency to
resolve a splat in the correct way.
4) Fix a splat due to incorrect socket memory accounting with nfnetlink
skbuff clones.
5) Add missing conntrack dependencies to NFT_DUP_IPV4 and NFT_DUP_IPV6.
6) Traverse the nftables commit list in reverse order from the commit
path, otherwise we crash when the user applies an incremental update
via 'nft -f' that deletes an object that was just introduced in this
batch, from Xin Long.
Regarding the compilation warning fix, many people have sent us (and

batch even if this is not critical.

Valdis reports NULL deref in nf_ct_frag6_gather.
Problem is bogus use of skb_queue_walk() -- we miss first skb in the list
since we start with head->next instead of head.
In case the element we're looking for was head->next we won't find

(defrag uses plain NULL-terminated list rather than one terminated by

Setting a value bigger than 255 resulted in using only the lower eight
bits of that value as it is assigned to the u8 header field. To avoid
this unexpected result, reject such values.
Setting a value of zero is technically possible, but hosts receiving
such a packet have to treat it like hop_limit was set to one, according
to RFC2460. Therefore I don't see a use-case for that.
Setting a route's hop_limit to zero in iproute2 means to use the sysctl
default, which is not the case here: Setting e.g.
net.conf.eth0.hop_limit=0 will not make the kernel use
net.conf.all.hop_limit for outgoing packets on eth0. To avoid these
kinds of confusion, reject zero.

While testing the np->opt RCU conversion, I found that UDP/IPv6 was
using a mixture of xchg() and sk_dst_lock to protect concurrent changes
to sk->sk_dst_cache, leading to possible corruptions and crashes.
ip6_sk_dst_lookup_flow() uses sk_dst_check() anyway, so the simplest
way to fix the mess is to remove sk_dst_lock completely, as we did for
IPv4.
__ip6_dst_store() and ip6_dst_store() share same implementation.
sk_setup_caps() being called with socket lock being held or not,
we have to use sk_dst_set() instead of __sk_dst_set()
Note that I had to move the "np->dst_cookie = rt6_get_cookie(rt);"
in ip6_dst_store() before the sk_setup_caps(sk, dst) call.
This is because ip6_dst_store() can be called from process context,
without any lock held.
As soon as the dst is installed in sk->sk_dst_cache, dst can be freed
from another cpu doing a concurrent ip6_dst_store()
Doing the dst dereference before doing the install is needed to make
sure no use after free would trigger.

If tcp_send_ack() can not allocate skb, we properly handle this
and setup a timer to try later.
Use __GFP_NOWARN to avoid polluting syslog in the case host is
under memory pressure, so that pertinent messages are not lost under
a flood of useless information.
sk_gfp_atomic() can use its gfp_mask argument (all callers currently
were using GFP_ATOMIC before this patch)
We rename sk_gfp_atomic() to sk_gfp_mask() to clearly express this
function now takes into account its second argument (gfp_mask)
Note that when tcp_transmit_skb() is called with clone_it set to false,
we do not attempt memory allocations, so can pass a 0 gfp_mask, which
most compilers can emit faster than a non zero or constant value.

This patch addresses multiple problems :
UDP/RAW sendmsg() need to get a stable struct ipv6_txoptions
while socket is not locked : Other threads can change np->opt
concurrently. Dmitry posted a syzkaller
(http://github.com/google/syzkaller) program desmonstrating
use-after-free.
Starting with TCP/DCCP lockless listeners, tcp_v6_syn_recv_sock()
and dccp_v6_request_recv_sock() also need to use RCU protection
to dereference np->opt once (before calling ipv6_dup_options())
This patch adds full RCU protection to np->opt

This reverts commit ab450605b3.
In IPv6, we cannot inherit the dst of the original dst. ndisc packets
are IPv6 packets and may take another route than the original packet.
This patch breaks the following scenario: a packet comes from eth0 and
is forwarded through vxlan1. The encapsulated packet triggers an NS
which cannot be sent because of the wrong route.

Since (at least) commit b17a7c179d ("[NET]: Do sysfs registration as
part of register_netdevice."), netdev_run_todo() deals only with
unregistration, so we don't need to do the rtnl_unlock/lock cycle to
finish registration when failing pimreg or dvmrp device creation. In
fact that opens a race condition where someone can delete the device
while rtnl is unlocked because it's fully registered. The problem gets
worse when netlink support is introduced as there are more points of entry
that can cause it and it also makes reusing that code correctly impossible.

If a fragmented multicast packet is received on an ethernet device which
has an active macvlan on top of it, each fragment is duplicated and
received both on the underlying device and the macvlan. If some
fragments for macvlan are processed before the whole packet for the
underlying device is reassembled, the "overlapping fragments" test in
ip6_frag_queue() discards the whole fragment queue.
To resolve this, add device ifindex to the search key and require it to
match reassembling multicast packets and packets to link-local
addresses.

The previous patch changed nf_ct_frag6_gather() to morph reassembled skb
with the previous one.
This means that the return value is always NULL or the skb argument.
So change it to an err value.
Instead of invoking NF_HOOK recursively with threshold to skip already-called hooks
we can now just return NF_ACCEPT to move on to the next hook except for
-EINPROGRESS (which means skb has been queued for reassembly), in which case we
return NF_STOLEN.

commit 6aafeef03b
("netfilter: push reasm skb through instead of original frag skbs")
changed ipv6 defrag to not use the original skbs anymore.
So rather than keeping the original skbs around just to discard them
afterwards just use the original skbs directly for the fraglist of
the newly assembled skb and remove the extra clone/free operations.
The skb that completes the fragment queue is morphed into a the
reassembled one instead, just like ipv4 defrag.
openvswitch doesn't need any additional skb_morph magic anymore to deal
with this situation so just remove that.
A followup patch can then also remove the NF_HOOK (re)invocation in
the ipv6 netfilter defrag hook.

so its rt6i_table == NULL. When __ip6_rt_update_pmtu() creates
a RTF_CACHE clone, the newly created clone also has rt6i_table == NULL
and it causes the ip6_ins_rt() oops.
During pmtu update, we only want to create a RTF_CACHE clone
from a rt which is currently managed (or owned) by the
fib6 tree. It means either rt->rt6i_node != NULL or
rt is a RTF_PCPU clone.
It is worth to note that rt6i_table may not be NULL even it is
not (yet) managed by the fib6 tree (e.g. addrconf_dst_alloc()).

Remove the dst_entries_init/destroy calls for xfrm4 and xfrm6 dst_ops
templates; their dst_entries counters will never be used. Move the
xfrm dst_ops initialization from the common xfrm/xfrm_policy.c to
xfrm4/xfrm4_policy.c and xfrm6/xfrm6_policy.c, and call dst_entries_init
and dst_entries_destroy for each net namespace.
The ipv4 and ipv6 xfrms each create dst_ops template, and perform
dst_entries_init on the templates. The template values are copied to each
net namespace's xfrm.xfrm*_dst_ops. The problem there is the dst_ops
pcpuc_entries field is a percpu counter and cannot be used correctly by
simply copying it to another object.
The result of this is a very subtle bug; changes to the dst entries
counter from one net namespace may sometimes get applied to a different
net namespace dst entries counter. This is because of how the percpu
counter works; it has a main count field as well as a pointer to the
percpu variables. Each net namespace maintains its own main count
variable, but all point to one set of percpu variables. When any net
namespace happens to change one of the percpu variables to outside its
small batch range, its count is moved to the net namespace's main count
variable. So with multiple net namespaces operating concurrently, the
dst_ops entries counter can stray from the actual value that it should
be; if counts are consistently moved from one net namespace to another
(which my testing showed is likely), then one net namespace winds up
with a negative dst_ops count while another winds up with a continually
increasing count, eventually reaching its gc_thresh limit, which causes
all new traffic on the net namespace to fail with -ENOBUFS.

This patch fixes following problems :
1) percpu_counter_init() can return an error, therefore
init_frag_mem_limit() must propagate this error so that
inet_frags_init_net() can do the same up to its callers.
2) If ip[46]_frags_ns_ctl_register() fail, we must unwind
properly and free the percpu_counter.
Without this fix, we leave freed object in percpu_counters
global list (if CONFIG_HOTPLUG_CPU) leading to crashes.

We cannot reliable calculate packet size on MSG_MORE corked sockets
and thus cannot decide if they are going to be fragmented later on,
so better not use CHECKSUM_PARTIAL in the first place.
The IPv6 code also intended to protect and not use CHECKSUM_PARTIAL in

pull request (net-next): ipsec-next 2015-10-30
1) The flow cache is limited by the flow cache limit which
depends on the number of cpus and the xfrm garbage collector
threshold which is independent of the number of cpus. This
leads to the fact that on systems with more than 16 cpus
we hit the xfrm garbage collector limit and refuse new
allocations, so new flows are dropped. On systems with 16
or less cpus, we hit the flowcache limit. In this case, we
shrink the flow cache instead of refusing new flows.
We increase the xfrm garbage collector threshold to INT_MAX
to get the same behaviour, independent of the number of cpus.
2) Fix some unaligned accesses on sparc systems.
From Sowmini Varadhan.
3) Fix some header checks in _decode_session4. We may call
pskb_may_pull with a negative value converted to unsigened
int from pskb_may_pull. This can lead to incorrect policy
lookups. We fix this by a check of the data pointer position
before we call pskb_may_pull.
4) Reload skb header pointers after calling pskb_may_pull
in _decode_session4 as this may change the pointers into
the packet.
5) Add a missing statistic counter on inner mode errors.

Raw sockets with hdrincl enabled can insert ipv6 extension headers
right into the data stream. In case we need to fragment those packets,
we reparse the options header to find the place where we can insert
the fragment header. If the extension headers exceed the link's MTU we
actually cannot make progress in such a case.
Instead of ending up in broken arithmetic or rounding towards 0 and
entering an endless loop in ip6_fragment, just prevent those cases by
aborting early and signal -EMSGSIZE to user space.

Multiple cpus can process duplicates of incoming ACK messages
matching a SYN_RECV request socket. This is a rare event under
normal operations, but definitely can happen.
Only one must win the race, otherwise corruption would occur.
To fix this without adding new atomic ops, we use logic in
inet_ehash_nolisten() to detect the request was present in the same
ehash bucket where we try to insert the new child.
If request socket was not found, we have to undo the child creation.
This actually removes a spin_lock()/spin_unlock() pair in

if_nlmsg_size() overestimates the minimum allocation size of netlink
dump request (when called from rtnl_calcit()) or the size of the
message (when called from rtnl_getlink()). This is because
ext_filter_mask is not supported by rtnl_link_get_af_size() and
rtnl_link_get_size().
The over-estimation is significant when at least one netdev has many
VLANs configured (8 bytes for each configured VLAN).
This patch-set "rightsizes" the protocol specific attribute size
calculation by propagating ext_filter_mask to rtnl_link_get_af_size()
and adding this a argument to get_link_af_size op in rtnl_af_ops.
Bridge module already used filtering aware sizing for notifications.
br_get_link_af_size_filtered() is consistent with the modified
get_link_af_size op so it replaces br_get_link_af_size() in br_af_ops.
br_get_link_af_size() becomes unused and thus removed.

Netfilter/IPVS updates for net-next
The following patchset contains Netfilter/IPVS updates for your net-next
tree. Most relevantly, updates for the nfnetlink_log to integrate with
conntrack, fixes for cttimeout and improvements for nf_queue core, they are:
1) Remove useless ifdef around static inline function in IPVS, from
Eric W. Biederman.
2) Simplify the conntrack support for nfnetlink_queue: Merge
nfnetlink_queue_ct.c file into nfnetlink_queue_core.c, then rename it back
to nfnetlink_queue.c
3) Use y2038 safe timestamp from nfnetlink_queue.
4) Get rid of dead function definition in nf_conntrack, from Flavio
Leitner.
5) Attach conntrack support for nfnetlink_log.c, from Ken-ichirou MATSUZAWA.
This adds a new NETFILTER_NETLINK_GLUE_CT Kconfig switch that
controls enabling both nfqueue and nflog integration with conntrack.
The userspace application can request this via NFULNL_CFG_F_CONNTRACK
configuration flag.
6) Remove unused netns variables in IPVS, from Eric W. Biederman and
Simon Horman.
7) Don't put back the refcount on the cttimeout object from xt_CT on success.
8) Fix crash on cttimeout policy object removal. We have to flush out
the cttimeout extension area of the conntrack not to refer to an unexisting
object that was just removed.
9) Make sure rcu_callback completion before removing nfnetlink_cttimeout
module removal.
10) Fix compilation warning in br_netfilter when no nf_defrag_ipv4 and
nf_defrag_ipv6 are enabled. Patch from Arnd Bergmann.
11) Autoload ctnetlink dependencies when NFULNL_CFG_F_CONNTRACK is
requested. Again from Ken-ichirou MATSUZAWA.
12) Don't use pointer to previous hook when reinjecting traffic via
nf_queue with NF_REPEAT verdict since it may be already gone. This
also avoids a deadloop if the userspace application keeps returning
NF_REPEAT.
13) A bunch of cleanups for netfilter IPv4 and IPv6 code from Ian Morris.
14) Consolidate logger instance existence check in nfulnl_recv_config().
15) Fix broken atomicity when applying configuration updates to logger
instances in nfnetlink_log.
16) Get rid of the .owner attribute in our hook object. We don't need
this anymore since we're dropping pending packets that have escaped
from the kernel when unremoving the hook. Patch from Florian Westphal.
17) Remove unnecessary rcu_read_lock() from nf_reinject code, we always
assume RCU read side lock from .call_rcu in nfnetlink. Also from Florian.
18) Use static inline function instead of macros to define NF_HOOK() and
NF_HOOK_COND() when no netfilter support in on, from Arnd Bergmann.

ip6_blackhole_route() does not initialize the newly allocated
rt6_info properly. This patch:
1. Call rt6_info_init() to initialize rt6i_siblings and rt6i_uncached
2. The current rt->dst._metrics init code is incorrect:
- 'rt->dst._metrics = ort->dst._metris' is not always safe
- Not sure what dst_copy_metrics() is trying to do here
considering ip6_rt_blackhole_cow_metrics() always returns
NULL
Fix:
- Always do dst_copy_metrics()
- Replace ip6_rt_blackhole_cow_metrics() with
dst_cow_metrics_generic()

As originally written rt6_uncached_list_flush_dev makes no sense when
called with dev == NULL as it attempts to flush all uncached routes
regardless of network namespace when dev == NULL. Which is simply
incorrect behavior.
Furthermore at the point rt6_ifdown is called with dev == NULL no more
network devices exist in the network namespace so even if the code in
rt6_uncached_list_flush_dev were to attempt something sensible it
would be meaningless.
Therefore remove support in rt6_uncached_list_flush_dev for handling
network devices where dev == NULL, and only call rt6_uncached_list_flush_dev
when rt6_ifdown is called with a network device.

The function nf_ct_frag6_gather is called on both the input and the
output paths of the networking stack. In particular ipv6_defrag which
calls nf_ct_frag6_gather is called from both the the PRE_ROUTING chain
on input and the LOCAL_OUT chain on output.
The addition of a net parameter makes it explicit which network
namespace the packets are being reassembled in, and removes the need
for nf_ct_frag6_gather to guess.

SO_INCOMING_CPU as added in commit 2c8c56e15d was a getsockopt() command
to fetch incoming cpu handling a particular TCP flow after accept()
This commits adds setsockopt() support and extends SO_REUSEPORT selection
logic : If a TCP listener or UDP socket has this option set, a packet is
delivered to this socket only if CPU handling the packet matches the specified
one.
This allows to build very efficient TCP servers, using one listener per
RX queue, as the associated TCP listener should only accept flows handled
in softirq by the same cpu.
This provides optimal NUMA behavior and keep cpu caches hot.
Note that __inet_lookup_listener() still has to iterate over the list of
all listeners. Following patch puts sk_refcnt in a different cache line
to let this iteration hit only shared and read mostly cache lines.

net: Pass net through ip fragmention
This is the next installment of my work to pass struct net through the
output path so the code does not need to guess how to figure out which
network namespace it is in, and ultimately routes can have output
devices in another network namespace.
This round focuses on passing net through ip fragmentation which we seem
to call from about everywhere. That is the main ip output paths, the
bridge netfilter code, and openvswitch. This has to happend at once
accross the tree as function pointers are involved.
First some prep work is done, then ipv4 and ipv6 are converted and then
temporary helper functions are removed.

The ipv6 mip6 implementation is one of only a few users of the
skb_get_timestamp() function in the kernel, which is both unsafe
on 32-bit architectures because of the 2038 overflow, and slightly
less efficient than the skb_get_ktime() based approach.
This converts the function call and the mip6_report_rate_limiter
structure that stores the time stamp, eliminating all uses of
timeval in the ipv6 code.

In this patch, we insert request sockets into TCP/DCCP
regular ehash table (where ESTABLISHED and TIMEWAIT sockets
are) instead of using the per listener hash table.
ACK packets find SYN_RECV pseudo sockets without having
to find and lock the listener.
In nominal conditions, this halves pressure on listener lock.
Note that this will allow for SO_REUSEPORT refinements,
so that we can select a listener using cpu/numa affinities instead
of the prior 'consistent hash', since only SYN packets will
apply this selection logic.

Netfilter/IPVS updates for net-next
The following pull request contains Netfilter/IPVS updates for net-next
containing 90 patches from Eric Biederman.
The main goal of this batch is to avoid recurrent lookups for the netns
pointer, that happens over and over again in our Netfilter/IPVS code. The idea
consists of passing netns pointer from the hook state to the relevant functions
and objects where this may be needed.
You can find more information on the IPVS updates from Simon Horman's commit
merge message:

already Cc'ed this mailing list in the original submission. If you need me to
make, just let me know.

While auditing TCP stack for upcoming 'lockless' listener changes,
I found I had to change fastopen_init_queue() to properly init the object
before publishing it.
Otherwise an other cpu could try to lock the spinlock before it gets
properly initialized.
Instead of adding appropriate barriers, just remove dynamic memory
allocations :
- Structure is 28 bytes on 64bit arches. Using additional 8 bytes
for holding a pointer seems overkill.
- Two listeners can share same cache line and performance would suffer.
If we really want to save few bytes, we would instead dynamically allocate
whole struct request_sock_queue in the future.

The xfrm flowcache size is limited by the flowcache limit
(4096 * number of online cpus) and the xfrm garbage collector
threshold (2 * 32768), whatever is reached first. This means
that we can hit the garbage collector limit only on systems
with more than 16 cpus. On such systems we simply refuse
new allocations if we reach the limit, so new flows are dropped.
On syslems with 16 or less cpus, we hit the flowcache limit.
In this case, we shrink the flow cache instead of refusing new
flows.
We increase the xfrm garbage collector threshold to INT_MAX
to get the same behaviour, independent of the number of cpus.
The xfrm garbage collector threshold can still be set below
the flowcache limit to reduce the memory usage of the flowcache.

Netfilter/IPVS updates for net-next
The following patchset contains Netfilter/IPVS updates for your net-next tree
in this 4.4 development cycle, they are:
1) Schedule ICMP traffic to IPVS instances, this introduces a new schedule_icmp
proc knob to enable/disable it. By default is off to retain the old
behaviour. Patchset from Alex Gartrell.
I'm also including what Alex originally said for the record:
"The configuration of ipvs at Facebook is relatively straightforward. All
ipvs instances bgp advertise a set of VIPs and the network prefers the
nearest one or uses ECMP in the event of a tie. For the uninitiated, ECMP
deterministically and statelessly load balances by hashing the packet
(usually a 5-tuple of protocol, saddr, daddr, sport, and dport) and using
that number as an index (basic hash table type logic).
The problem is that ICMP packets (which contain really important
information like whether or not an MTU has been exceeded) will get a
different hash value and may end up at a different ipvs instance. With no
information about where to route these packets, they are dropped, creating
ICMP black holes and breaking Path MTU discovery. Suddenly, my mom's
pictures can't load and I'm fielding midday calls that I want nothing to do
with.
To address this, this patch set introduces the ability to schedule icmp
packets which is gated by a sysctl net.ipv4.vs.schedule_icmp. If set to 0,
the old behavior is maintained -- otherwise ICMP packets are scheduled."
2) Add another proc entry to ignore tunneled packets to avoid routing loops
from IPVS, also from Alex.
3) Fifteen patches from Eric Biederman to:
* Stop passing nf_hook_ops as parameter to the hook and use the state hook
object instead all around the netfilter code, so only the private data
pointer is passed to the registered hook function.
* Now that we've got state->net, propagate the netns pointer to netfilter hook
clients to avoid its computation over and over again. A good example of how
this has been simplified is the former TEE target (now nf_dup infrastructure)
since it has killed the ugly pick_net() function.
There's another round of netns updates from Eric Biederman making the line. To
avoid the patchbomb again to almost all the networking mailing list (that is 84
patches) I'd suggest we send you a pull request with no patches or let me know
if you prefer a better way.

Currently SYN/ACK RTT is measured in jiffies. For LAN the SYN/ACK
RTT is often measured as 0ms or sometimes 1ms, which would affect
RTT estimation and min RTT samping used by some congestion control.
This patch improves SYN/ACK RTT to be usec resolution if platform
supports it. While the timestamping of SYN/ACK is done in request
sock, the RTT measurement is carefully arranged to avoid storing
another u64 timestamp in tcp_sock.
For regular handshake w/o SYNACK retransmission, the RTT is sampled
right after the child socket is created and right before the request
sock is released (tcp_check_req() in tcp_minisocks.c)
For Fast Open the child socket is already created when SYN/ACK was
sent, the RTT is sampled in tcp_rcv_state_process() after processing
the final ACK an right before the request socket is released.
If the SYN/ACK was retransmistted or SYN-cookie was used, we rely
on TCP timestamps to measure the RTT. The sample is taken at the
same place in tcp_rcv_state_process() after the timestamp values
are validated in tcp_validate_incoming(). Note that we do not store
TS echo value in request_sock for SYN-cookies, because the value
is already stored in tp->rx_opt used by tcp_ack_update_rtt().
One side benefit is that the RTT measurement now happens before
initializing congestion control (of the passive side). Therefore
the congestion control can use the SYN/ACK RTT.

Man page of ip-route(8) says following about route types:
unreachable - these destinations are unreachable. Packets are dis‐
carded and the ICMP message host unreachable is generated. The local
senders get an EHOSTUNREACH error.
blackhole - these destinations are unreachable. Packets are dis‐
carded silently. The local senders get an EINVAL error.
prohibit - these destinations are unreachable. Packets are discarded
and the ICMP message communication administratively prohibited is
generated. The local senders get an EACCES error.
In the inet6 address family, this was correct, except the local senders
got ENETUNREACH error instead of EHOSTUNREACH in case of unreachable route.
In the inet address family, all three route types generated ICMP message
net unreachable, and the local senders got ENETUNREACH error.
In both address families all three route types now behave consistently
with documentation.

David Woodhouse reports skb_under_panic when we try to push ethernet
header to fragmented ipv6 skbs:
skbuff: skb_under_panic: text:c1277f1e len:1294 put:14 head:dec98000
data:dec97ffc tail:0xdec9850a end:0xdec98f40 dev:br-lan
[..]
ip6_finish_output2+0x196/0x4da
David further debugged this:
[..] offending fragments were arriving here with skb_headroom(skb)==10.
Which is reasonable, being the Solos ADSL card's header of 8 bytes
followed by 2 bytes of PPP frame type.
The problem is that if netfilter ipv6 defragmentation is used, skb_cow()
in ip6_forward will only see reassembled skb.
Therefore, headroom is overestimated by 8 bytes (we pulled fragment
header) and we don't check the skbs in the frag_list either.
We can't do these checks in netfilter defrag since outdev isn't known yet.
Furthermore, existing tests in ip6_fragment did not consider the fragment
or ipv6 header size when checking headroom of the fraglist skbs.
While at it, also fix a skb leak on memory allocation -- ip6_fragment
must consume the skb.
I tested this e1000 driver hacked to not allocate additional headroom
(we end up in slowpath, since LL_RESERVED_SPACE is 16).
If 2 bytes of headroom are allocated, fastpath is taken (14 byte
ethernet header was pulled, so 16 byte headroom available in all
fragments).

In commit b73c3d0e4f ("net: Save TX flow hash in sock and set in skbuf
on xmit"), Tom provided a l4 hash to most outgoing TCP packets.
We'd like to provide one as well for SYNACK packets, so that all packets
of a given flow share same txhash, to later enable bonding driver to
also use skb->hash to perform slave selection.
Note that a SYNACK retransmit shuffles the tx hash, as Tom did
in commit 265f94ff54 ("net: Recompute sk_txhash on negative routing
advice") for established sockets.
This has nice effect making TCP flows resilient to some kind of black
holes, even at connection establish phase.

This is immediately motivated by the bridge code that chains functions that
call into netfilter. Without passing net into the okfns the bridge code would
need to guess about the best expression for the network namespace to process
packets in.
As net is frequently one of the first things computed in continuation functions
after netfilter has done it's job passing in the desired network namespace is in
many cases a code simplification.
To support this change the function dst_output_okfn is introduced to
simplify passing dst_output as an okfn. For the moment dst_output_okfn
just silently drops the struct net.

Pass a network namespace parameter into the netfilter hooks. At the
call site of the netfilter hooks the path a packet is taking through
the network stack is well known which allows the network namespace to
be easily and reliabily.
This allows the replacement of magic code like
"dev_net(state->in?:state->out)" that appears at the start of most
netfilter hooks with "state->net".
In almost all cases the network namespace passed in is derived
from the first network device passed in, guaranteeing those
paths will not see any changes in practice.
The exceptions are:
xfrm/xfrm_output.c:xfrm_output_resume() xs_net(skb_dst(skb)->xfrm)
ipvs/ip_vs_xmit.c:ip_vs_nat_send_or_cont() ip_vs_conn_net(cp)
ipvs/ip_vs_xmit.c:ip_vs_send_or_cont() ip_vs_conn_net(cp)
ipv4/raw.c:raw_send_hdrinc() sock_net(sk)
ipv6/ip6_output.c:ip6_xmit() sock_net(sk)
ipv6/ndisc.c:ndisc_send_skb() dev_net(skb->dev) not dev_net(dst->dev)
ipv6/raw.c:raw6_send_hdrinc() sock_net(sk)
br_netfilter_hooks.c:br_nf_pre_routing_finish() dev_net(skb->dev) before skb->dev is set to nf_bridge->physindev
In all cases these exceptions seem to be a better expression for the
network namespace the packet is being processed in then the historic
"dev_net(in?in:out)". I am documenting them in case something odd
pops up and someone starts trying to track down what happened.

The following is a common paradigm:
if (ip6_del_rt(rt))
dst_free(rt)
which means, if rt cannot be deleted from the fib tree, dst_free(rt) now.
1. We don't know the ip6_del_rt(rt) failure is because it
was not managed by fib tree (e.g. DST_NOCACHE) or it had already been
removed from the fib tree.
2. If rt had been managed by the fib tree, ip6_del_rt(rt) failure means
dst_free(rt) has been called already. A second
dst_free(rt) is not always obviously safe. The rt may have
been destroyed already.
3. If rt is a DST_NOCACHE, dst_free(rt) should not be called.

Problems in the current dst_entry cache in the ip6_tunnel:
1. ip6_tnl_dst_set is racy. There is no lock to protect it:
- One major problem is that the dst refcnt gets messed up. F.e.
the same dst_cache can be released multiple times and then
triggering the infamous dst refcnt < 0 warning message.
- Another issue is the inconsistency between dst_cache and
dst_cookie.
It can be reproduced by adding and removing the ip6gre tunnel
while running a super_netperf TCP_CRR test.
2. ip6_tnl_dst_get does not take the dst refcnt before returning
the dst.

1. Create a percpu dst_entry cache in ip6_tnl
2. Use a spinlock to protect the dst_cache operations

Ensure there's enough data left prior calling pskb_may_pull(). If
skb->data was already advanced, we'll call pskb_may_pull() with a
negative value converted to unsigned int -- leading to a huge
positive value. That won't matter in practice as pskb_may_pull()
will likely fail in this case, but it leads to underflow reports on
kernels handling such kind of over-/underflows, e.g. a PaX enabled

This switches IPv6 policy routing to use the shared
fib_default_rule_pref() function of IPv4 and DECnet. It is also used in
multicast routing for IPv4 as well as IPv6.
The motivation for this patch is a complaint about iproute2 behaving
inconsistent between IPv4 and IPv6 when adding policy rules: Formerly,
IPv6 rules were assigned a fixed priority of 0x3FFF whereas for IPv4 the
assigned priority value was decreased with each rule added.
Since then all users of the default_pref field have been converted to
assign the generic function fib_default_rule_pref(), fib_nl_newrule()
may just use it directly instead. Therefore get rid of the function
pointer altogether and make fib_default_rule_pref() static, as it's not
used outside fib_rules.c anymore.

Problem:
The ecmp route replace support for ipv6 in the kernel, deletes the
existing ecmp route too early, ie when it installs the first nexthop.
If there is an error in installing the subsequent nexthops, its too late
to recover the already deleted existing route leaving the fib
in an inconsistent state.
This patch reduces the possibility of this by doing the following:
a) Changes the existing multipath route add code to a two stage process:
build rt6_infos + insert them
ip6_route_add rt6_info creation code is moved into
ip6_route_info_create.
b) This ensures that most errors are caught during building rt6_infos
and we fail early
c) Separates multipath add and del code. Because add needs the special
two stage mode in a) and delete essentially does not care.
d) In any event if the code fails during inserting a route again, a
warning is printed (This should be unlikely)

that.
There are still a few fixups that I know are coming, but I wanted to

Of note is the fact that this creates what is intended to be a

deprecated two drivers (ipath and amso1100) and are waiting to hear

hfi1 driver into this area because it needs to be refactored and a
transfer library created out of the factored out code, and then it and
the qib driver and the soft-roce driver should all be modified to use
that library.
I expect drivers/staging/rdma to be around for three or four kernel
releases and then to go away as all of the work is completed and final

In the IPv6 multicast routing code the mrt_lock was not being released
correctly in the MFC iterator, as a result adding or deleting a MIF would
cause a hang because the mrt_lock could not be acquired.
This fix is a copy of the code for the IPv4 case and ensures that the lock
is released correctly.

The IPv6 IPsec pre-encap path performs fragmentation for tunnel-mode
packets. That is, we perform fragmentation pre-encap rather than
post-encap.
A check was added later to ensure that proper MTU information is
passed back for locally generated traffic. Unfortunately this
check was performed on all IPsec packets, including transport-mode
packets.
What's more, the check failed to take GSO into account.
The end result is that transport-mode GSO packets get dropped at
the check.
This patch fixes it by moving the tunnel mode check forward as well
as adding the GSO check.

The kernel is applying the RA managed/otherconf flags silently and
forgets to send ifinfo notify to inform about their change when the
router provides a zero reachable_time and retrans_timer as dnsmasq
and many routers send it, which just means unspecified by this router

Currently, the following case doesn't use DCTCP, even if it should:
A responder has f.e. Cubic as system wide default, but for a specific
route to the initiating host, DCTCP is being set in RTAX_CC_ALGO. The
initiating host then uses DCTCP as congestion control, but since the
initiator sets ECT(0), tcp_ecn_create_request() doesn't set ecn_ok,
and we have to fall back to Reno after 3WHS completes.
We were thinking on how to solve this in a minimal, non-intrusive
way without bloating tcp_ecn_create_request() needlessly: lets cache
the CA ecn option flag in RTAX_FEATURES. In other words, when ECT(0)
is set on the SYN packet, set ecn_ok=1 iff route RTAX_FEATURES
contains the unexposed (internal-only) DST_FEATURE_ECN_CA. This allows
to only do a single metric feature lookup inside tcp_ecn_create_request().

Docker container creation linearly increased from around 1.6 sec to 7.5 sec
(at 1000 containers) and perf data showed 50% ovehead in snmp_fold_field.
reason: currently __snmp6_fill_stats64 calls snmp_fold_field that walks

idea: This patch tries to aggregate the statistics by going through
all the items of each cpu sequentially which is reducing cache

By default (subject to the sysctl settings), IPv6 sockets listen also for
IPv4 traffic. Vxlan is not prepared for that and expects IPv6 header in
packets received through an IPv6 socket.
In addition, it's currently not possible to have both IPv4 and IPv6 vxlan
tunnel on the same port (unless bindv6only sysctl is enabled), as it's not
possible to create and bind both IPv4 and IPv6 vxlan interfaces and there's
no way to specify both IPv4 and IPv6 remote/group IP addresses.
Set IPV6_V6ONLY on vxlan sockets to fix both of these issues. This is not
done globally in udp_tunnel, as l2tp and tipc seems to work okay when
receiving IPv4 packets on IPv6 socket and people may rely on this behavior.

Netfilter updates for net-next
This is second pull request includes the conflict resolution patch that
resulted from the updates that we got for the conntrack template through
kmalloc. No changes with regards to the previously sent 15 patches.
The following patchset contains Netfilter updates for your net-next tree, they
are:
1) Rework the existing nf_tables counter expression to make it per-cpu.
2) Prepare and factor out common packet duplication code from the TEE target so
it can be reused from the new dup expression.
3) Add the new dup expression for the nf_tables IPv4 and IPv6 families.
4) Convert the nf_tables limit expression to use a token-based approach with
64-bits precision.
5) Enhance the nf_tables limit expression to support limiting at packet byte.
This comes after several preparation patches.
6) Add a burst parameter to indicate the amount of packets or bytes that can
exceed the limiting.
7) Add netns support to nfacct, from Andreas Schultz.
8) Pass the nf_conn_zone structure instead of the zone ID in nf_tables to allow
accessing more zone specific information, from Daniel Borkmann.
9) Allow to define zone per-direction to support netns containers with
overlapping network addressing, also from Daniel.
10) Extend the CT target to allow setting the zone based on the skb->mark as a
way to support simple mappings from iptables, also from Daniel.
11) Make the nf_tables payload expression aware of the fact that VLAN offload
may have removed a vlan header, from Florian Westphal.

Currently, the lwtunnel state resides in per-protocol data. This is
a problem if we encapsulate ipv6 traffic in an ipv4 tunnel (or vice versa).
The xmit function of the tunnel does not know whether the packet has been
routed to it by ipv4 or ipv6, yet it needs the lwtstate data. Moving the
lwtstate data to dst_entry makes such inter-protocol tunneling possible.

This work adds the possibility of deriving the zone id from the skb->mark
field in a scalable manner. This allows for having only a single template
serving hundreds/thousands of different zones, for example, instead of the
need to have one match for each zone as an extra CT jump target.
Note that we'd need to have this information attached to the template as at
the time when we're trying to lookup a possible ct object, we already need
to know zone information for a possible match when going into
__nf_conntrack_find_get(). This work provides a minimal implementation for
a possible mapping.
In order to not add/expose an extra ct->status bit, the zone structure has
been extended to carry a flag for deriving the mark.

This work adds a direction parameter to netfilter zones, so identity
separation can be performed only in original/reply or both directions
(default). This basically opens up the possibility of doing NAT with
conflicting IP address/port tuples from multiple, isolated tenants
on a host (e.g. from a netns) without requiring each tenant to NAT
twice resp. to use its own dedicated IP address to SNAT to, meaning
overlapping tuples can be made unique with the zone identifier in
original direction, where the NAT engine will then allocate a unique
tuple in the commonly shared default zone for the reply direction.
In some restricted, local DNAT cases, also port redirection could be
used for making the reply traffic unique w/o requiring SNAT.
The consensus we've reached and discussed at NFWS and since the initial
implementation [1] was to directly integrate the direction meta data
into the existing zones infrastructure, as opposed to the ct->mark
approach we proposed initially.
As we pass the nf_conntrack_zone object directly around, we don't have
to touch all call-sites, but only those, that contain equality checks
of zones. Thus, based on the current direction (original or reply),
we either return the actual id, or the default NF_CT_DEFAULT_ZONE_ID.
CT expectations are direction-agnostic entities when expectations are
being compared among themselves, so we can only use the identifier
in this case.
Note that zone identifiers can not be included into the hash mix
anymore as they don't contain a "stable" value that would be equal
for both directions at all times, f.e. if only zone->id would
unconditionally be xor'ed into the table slot hash, then replies won't
find the corresponding conntracking entry anymore.
If no particular direction is specified when configuring zones, the
behaviour is exactly as we expect currently (both directions).
Support has been added for the CT netlink interface as well as the
x_tables raw CT target, which both already offer existing interfaces
to user space for the configuration of zones.
Below a minimal, simplified collision example (script in [2]) with
netperf sessions:
+--- tenant-1 ---+ mark := 1
| netperf |--+
+----------------+ | CT zone := mark [ORIGINAL]
[ip,sport] := X +--------------+ +--- gateway ---+

+--- tenant-2 ---+ | ~~~|~~~
| netperf |--+ +-----------+ |
+----------------+ mark := 2 | netserver |------ ... +
[ip,sport] := X +-----------+
[ip,port] := Y
On the gateway netns, example:

Taking this further, test script in [2] creates 200 tenants and runs
original-tuple colliding netperf sessions each. A conntrack -L dump in
the gateway netns also confirms 200 overlapping entries, all in ESTABLISHED
state as expected.
I also did run various other tests with some permutations of the script,
to mention some: SNAT in random/random-fully/persistent mode, no zones (no
overlaps), static zones (original, reply, both directions), etc.

It is a prep work for fixing a potential deadlock when creating

exist. This patch moves the pcpu rt creation logic into another function,

Like the ipv4 patch with a similar title, this adds a sysctl to allow
the user to change routing behavior based on whether or not the
interface associated with the nexthop was an up or down link. The
default setting preserves the current behavior, but anyone that enables
it will notice that nexthops on down interfaces will no longer be
selected:
net.ipv6.conf.all.ignore_routes_with_linkdown = 0
net.ipv6.conf.default.ignore_routes_with_linkdown = 0
net.ipv6.conf.lo.ignore_routes_with_linkdown = 0
...
When the above sysctls are set, not only will link status be reported to
userspace, but an indication that a nexthop is dead and will not be used
is also reported.
1000::/8 via 7000::2 dev p7p1 metric 1024 dead linkdown pref medium
1000::/8 via 8000::2 dev p8p1 metric 1024 pref medium
7000::/8 dev p7p1 proto kernel metric 256 dead linkdown pref medium
8000::/8 dev p8p1 proto kernel metric 256 pref medium
9000::/8 via 8000::2 dev p8p1 metric 2048 pref medium

fe80::/64 dev p7p1 proto kernel metric 256 dead linkdown pref medium

This also adds devconf support and notification when sysctl values
change.

checks the dev for the dst entry and sets proper flags that to be used

The recent refactoring of the IGMP and MLD parsing code into
ipv6_mc_check_mld() / ip_mc_check_igmp() introduced a potential crash /
BUG() invocation for bridges:
I wrongly assumed that skb_get() could be used as a simple reference
counter for an skb which is not the case. skb_get() bears additional
semantics, a user count. This leads to a BUG() invocation in
pskb_expand_head() / kernel panic if pskb_may_pull() is called on an skb
with a user count greater than one - unfortunately the refactoring did
just that.
Fixing this by removing the skb_get() call and changing the API: The
caller of ipv6_mc_check_mld() / ip_mc_check_igmp() now needs to
additionally check whether the returned skb_trimmed is a clone.

Using ipv6_get_dsfield on the outer IP header implies that inner and
outer header are of the the same address family. For interfamily
tunnels, particularly 646, the code reading the DSCP field obtains the
wrong values (IHL and the upper four bits of the DSCP field).
This can cause the code to detect a congestion encoutered state in the
outer header and enable the corresponding bits in the inner header, too.
Since the DSCP field is stored in the xfrm mode common buffer
independently from the IP version of the outer header, it's safe (and
correct) to take this value from there.

This patch replaces the zone id which is pushed down into functions
with the actual zone object. It's a bigger one-time change, but
needed for later on extending zones with a direction parameter, and
thus decoupling this additional information from all call-sites.
No functional changes in this patch.
The default zone becomes a global const object, namely nf_ct_zone_dflt
and will be returned directly in various cases, one being, when there's
f.e. no zoning support.

Netfilter fixes for net
The following patchset contains five Netfilter fixes for your net tree,
they are:
1) Silence a warning on falling back to vmalloc(). Since 88eab472ec, we can
easily hit this warning message, that gets users confused. So let's get rid
of it.
2) Recently when porting the template object allocation on top of kmalloc to
fix the netns dependencies between x_tables and conntrack, the error
checks where left unchanged. Remove IS_ERR() and check for NULL instead.
Patch from Dan Carpenter.
3) Don't ignore gfp_flags in the new nf_ct_tmpl_alloc() function, from
Joe Stringer.
4) Fix a crash due to NULL pointer dereference in ip6t_SYNPROXY, patch from
Phil Sutter.
5) The sequence number of the Syn+ack that is sent from SYNPROXY to clients is
not adjusted through our NAT infrastructure, as a result the client may
ignore this TCP packet and TCP flow hangs until the client probes us. Also
from Phil Sutter.

Upon receipt of SYNACK from the server, ipt_SYNPROXY first sends back an ACK to
finish the server handshake, then calls nf_ct_seqadj_init() to initiate
sequence number adjustment of forwarded packets to the client and finally sends
a window update to the client to unblock it's TX queue.
Since synproxy_send_client_ack() does not set synproxy_send_tcp()'s nfct
parameter, no sequence number adjustment happens and the client receives the
window update with incorrect sequence number. Depending on client TCP
implementation, this leads to a significant delay (until a window probe is
being sent).

Netfilter updates for net-next
The following patchset contains Netfilter updates for net-next, they are:
1) A couple of cleanups for the netfilter core hook from Eric Biederman.
2) Net namespace hook registration, also from Eric. This adds a dependency with
the rtnl_lock. This should be fine by now but we have to keep an eye on this
because if we ever get the per-subsys nfnl_lock before rtnl we have may
problems in the future. But we have room to remove this in the future by
propagating the complexity to the clients, by registering hooks for the init
netns functions.
3) Update nf_tables to use the new net namespace hook infrastructure, also from
Eric.
4) Three patches to refine and to address problems from the new net namespace
hook infrastructure.
5) Switch to alternate jumpstack in xtables iff the packet is reentering. This
only applies to a very special case, the TEE target, but Eric Dumazet
reports that this is slowing down things for everyone else. So let's only
switch to the alternate jumpstack if the tee target is in used through a
static key. This batch also comes with offline precalculation of the
jumpstack based on the callchain depth. From Florian Westphal.
6) Minimal SCTP multihoming support for our conntrack helper, from Michal
Kubecek.
7) Reduce nf_bridge_info per skbuff scratchpad area to 32 bytes, from Florian
Westphal.
8) Fix several checkpatch errors in bridge netfilter, from Bernhard Thaler.

Per RFC6437 stateful flow labels (e.g. labels set by flow label manager)
cannot "disturb" nodes taking part in stateless flow labels. While the
ranges only reduce the flow label entropy by one bit, it is conceivable
that this might bias the algorithm on some routers causing a load
imbalance. For best results on the Internet we really need the full
20 bits.

This patch adds net argument to ipv6_stub_impl.ipv6_dst_lookup
for use cases where sk is not available (like mpls).
sk appears to be needed to get the namespace 'net' and is optional
otherwise. This patch series changes ipv6_stub_impl.ipv6_dst_lookup
to take net argument. sk remains optional.
All callers of ipv6_stub_impl.ipv6_dst_lookup have been modified
to pass net. I have modified them to use already available
'net' in the scope of the call. I can change them to
sock_net(sk) to avoid any unintended change in behaviour if sock
namespace is different. They dont seem to be from code inspection.

Commit 6fd99094de ("ipv6: Don't reduce hop limit for an interface")
disabled accept hop limit from RA if it is smaller than the current hop
limit for security stuff. But this behavior kind of break the RFC definition.
RFC 4861, 6.3.4. Processing Received Router Advertisements
A Router Advertisement field (e.g., Cur Hop Limit, Reachable Time,
and Retrans Timer) may contain a value denoting that it is
unspecified. In such cases, the parameter should be ignored and the
host should continue using whatever value it is already using.
If the received Cur Hop Limit value is non-zero, the host SHOULD set
its CurHopLimit variable to the received value.
So add sysctl option accept_ra_min_hop_limit to let user choose the minimum
hop limit value they can accept from RA. And set default to 1 to meet RFC
standards.
