Zach Brown 2e0bc452f4 net: phy: leds: add support for led triggers on phy link state change
Create an option CONFIG_LED_TRIGGER_PHY (default n), which will create a
set of led triggers for each instantiated PHY device. There is one LED
trigger per link-speed, per-phy.
The triggers are registered during phy_attach and unregistered during
phy_detach.

This allows for a user to configure their system to allow a set of LEDs
not controlled by the phy to represent link state changes on the phy.
LEDS controlled by the phy are unaffected.

For example, we have a board where some of the leds in the
RJ45 socket are controlled by the phy, but others are not. Using the
triggers provided by this patch the leds not controlled by the phy can
be configured to show the current speed of the ethernet connection. The
leds controlled by the phy are unaffected.

Zach Brown 61a179657f net: phy: Encapsulate actions performed during link state changes into function phy_adjust_link
During phy state machine state transitions some set of actions should
occur whenever the link state changes. These actions should be
encapsulated into a single function

This patch adds the phy_adjust_link function, which is called whenever
phydev->adjust_link would have been called before. Actions that should
occur whenever the phy link is adjusted can now be added to the
phy_adjust_link function.

Andrew Lunn ae0219cb44 net: phy: Use phy name when requesting the interrupt
Using the fixed name "phy_interrupt" is not very informative in
/proc/interrupts when there are a lot of phys, e.g. a device with an
Ethernet switch. So when requesting the interrupt, use the name of the
phy.

Andrew Lunn 664fcf123a net: phy: Threaded interrupts allow some simplification
The PHY interrupts are now handled in a threaded interrupt handler,
which can sleep. The work queue is no longer needed, phy_change() can
be called directly. phy_mac_interrupt() still needs to be safe to call
in interrupt context, so keep the work queue, and use a helper to call
phy_change().

Andrew Lunn c974bdbc3e net: phy: Use threaded IRQ, to allow IRQ from sleeping devices
The interrupt lines from PHYs maybe connected to I2C bus expanders, or
from switches on MDIO busses. Such interrupts are sourced from devices
which sleep, so use threaded interrupts. Threaded interrupts require
that the interrupt requester also uses the threaded API. Change the
phylib to use the threaded API, which is backwards compatible with
none-threaded IRQs.

Edge-Rate cleanup include the following:
- Updated device tree bindings documentation for edge-rate
- The edge-rate is now specified as a "slowdown", meaning that it is now
  being specified as positive values instead of negative (both
  documentation and implementation wise).
- Only explicitly documented values for "vsc8531,vddmac" and
  "vsc8531,edge-slowdown" are accepted by the device driver.
- Deleted include/dt-bindings/net/mscc-phy-vsc8531.h as it was not needed.
- Read/validate devicetree settings in probe instead of init

Andrew Lunn 3c293f4e08 net: phy: Trigger state machine on state change and not polling.
The phy_start() is used to indicate the PHY is now ready to do its
work. The state is changed, normally to PHY_UP which means that both
the MAC and the PHY are ready.

If the phy driver is using polling, when the next poll happens, the
state machine notices the PHY is now in PHY_UP, and kicks off
auto-negotiation, if needed.

If however, the PHY is using interrupts, there is no polling. The phy
is stuck in PHY_UP until the next interrupt comes along. And there is
no reason for the PHY to interrupt.

Have phy_start() schedule the state machine to run, which both speeds
up the polling use case, and makes the interrupt use case actually
work.

This problems exists whenever there is a state change which will not
cause an interrupt. Trigger the state machine in these cases,
e.g. phy_error().

Wake-on-LAN (WoL) is an Ethernet networking standard that allows
a computer/device to be turned on or awakened by a network message.

VSC8531 PHY can support this feature configure by driver set function.
WoL status get by driver get function.

Raju Lakkaraju a4cc96d1f0 net: phy: Add Edge-rate driver for Microsemi PHYs.
Edge-rate:
As system and networking speeds increase, a signal's output transition,
also know as the edge rate or slew rate (V/ns), takes on greater importance
because high-speed signals come with a price. That price is an assortment of
interference problems like ringing on the line, signal overshoot and
undershoot, extended signal settling times, crosstalk noise, transmission
line reflections, false signal detection by the receiving device and
electromagnetic interference (EMI) -- all of which can negate the potential
gains designers are seeking when they try to increase system speeds through
the use of higher performance logic devices. The fact is, faster signaling
edge rates can cause a higher level of electrical noise or other type of
interference that can actually lead to slower line speeds and lower maximum
system frequencies. This parameter allow the board designers to change the
driving strange, and thereby change the EMI behavioral.

Edge-rate parameters (vddmac, edge-slowdown) get from Device Tree.

Tested on Beaglebone Black with VSC 8531 PHY.

Christophe Jaillet 440f895aa9 drivers: net: phy: xgene: Fix 'remove' function
If 'IS_ERR(pdata->clk)' is true, then 'clk_disable_unprepare(pdata->clk)'
will do nothing.

It is likely that 'if (!IS_ERR(pdata->clk))' was expected here.
In fact, the test can even be removed because 'clk_disable_unprepare'
already handles such cases.

This reverts:
  commit 33c133cc75 ("phy: IRQ cannot be shared")

On hardware with multiple PHY devices hooked up to the same IRQ line, allow
them to share it.

Sergei Shtylyov says:
  "I'm not sure now what was the reason I concluded that the IRQ sharing
  was impossible... most probably I thought that the kernel IRQ handling
  code exited the loop over the IRQ actions once IRQ_HANDLED was returned
  -- which is obviously not so in reality..."

Xander Huff f64f14820e phy: micrel: Reenable interrupts during resume for ksz9031

Appana Durga Kedareswara Rao f411a6160b net: phy: Add gmiitorgmii converter support
This patch adds support for gmiitorgmii converter.

The GMII to RGMII IP core provides the Reduced Gigabit Media
Independent Interface (RGMII) between Ethernet physical media
Devices and the Gigabit Ethernet controller. This core can
Switch dynamically between the three different speed modes of
Operation by configuring the converter register through mdio write.

MDIO interface is used to set operating speed of Ethernet MAC.

This converter sits between the MAC and the external phy
MAC <==> GMII2RGMII <==> RGMII_PHY

Iyappan Subramanian 43b3cf6634 drivers: net: phy: xgene: Add MDIO driver
Currently, SGMII based 1G rely on the hardware registers for link state
and sometimes it's not reliable.  To get most accurate link state, this
interface has to use the MDIO bus to poll the PHY.

In X-Gene SoC, MDIO bus is shared across RGMII and SGMII based 1G
interfaces, so adding this driver to manage MDIO bus.  This driver
registers the mdio bus and registers the PHYs connected to it.

Charles-Antoine Couret 6cfb3bcc06 Marvell phy: check link status in case of fiber link.
For concerned phy, the fiber link is checked before the copper link.
According to datasheet, the link which is up is enabled.

If both links are down, copper link would be used.
To detect fiber link status, we used the real time status
because of troubles with the copper method.

Tested with Marvell 88E1512.

Philipp Zabel 77501a79ce net: phy: micrel: Add KSZ8041FTL fiber mode support
We can't detect the FXEN (fiber mode) bootstrap pin, so configure
it via a boolean device tree property "micrel,fiber-mode".
If it is enabled, auto-negotiation is not supported.
The only available modes are 100base-fx (full duplex and half duplex).

Stefan Hauser b291c41817 net: phy: dp83867: Fix initialization of PHYCR register
When initializing the PHY control register, the FIFO depth bits are
written without reading the previous register value, i.e. all other
bits are overwritten with zero. This disables automatic MDI-X
configuration, which is enabled by default. Fix initialization by doing
a read/modify/write operation.

Florian Fainelli 69fc58a57e net: phy: Manage fixed PHY address space using IDA
If we have a system which uses fixed PHY devices and calls
fixed_phy_register() then fixed_phy_unregister() we can exhaust the
number of fixed PHYs available after a while, since we keep incrementing
the variable phy_fixed_addr, but we never decrement it.

This patch fixes that by converting the fixed PHY allocation to using
IDA, which takes care of the allocation/dealloaction of the PHY
addresses for us.

Russell King bf7afb29d5 phy: improve safety of fixed-phy MII register reading
There is no prevention of a concurrent call to both fixed_mdio_read()
and fixed_phy_update_state(), which can result in the state being
modified while it's being inspected.  Fix this by using a seqcount
to detect modifications, and memcpy()ing the state.

We remain slightly naughty here, calling link_update() and updating
the link status within the read-side loop - which would need rework
of the design to change.

Russell King 37688e3f53 phy: generate swphy registers on the fly
Generate software phy registers as and when requested, rather than
duplicating the state in fixed_phy.  This allows us to eliminate
the duplicate storage of of the same data, which is only different
in format.

As fixed_phy_update_regs() no longer updates register state, rename
it to fixed_phy_update().

argument.

Clemens Gruber fdecf36fce phy: marvell: fix LED configuration via marvell,reg-init
Configuring the PHY LED registers for the Marvell 88E1510 and others is
not possible, because regardless of the values in marvell,reg-init, it
is later overridden in m88e1121_config_aneg with a non-standard default.

This patch moves that default configuration to .config_init to allow
setting the LED configuration through marvell,reg-init in the device
tree, which should override said default if it exists.

Pramod Kumar 98bc865a1e net: mdio-mux: Add MDIO mux driver for iProc SoCs
iProc based SoCs supports the integrated mdio multiplexer which
has the bus selection as well as mdio transaction generation logic
inside.

This multiplexer has child buses for PCIe, SATA, USB and ETH. These
buses could be internal or external to SOC where PHYs are attached.
These buses could use C-45 or C-22 mdio transaction.

Manfred Schlaegl fc0f7e3317 net: phy: smsc: reintroduced unconditional soft reset
We detected some problems using the smsc lan8720a in combination with
i.MX28 and tracked this down to commit 2100968666 ("net: phy: smsc: move
smsc_phy_config_init reset part in a soft_reset function")
With 2100968666 the generic soft reset is replaced by a specific function
which handles power down state correctly. But additionally the soft reset
itself got conditional and is therefore also only performed if the phy is
in power down state.

This patch keeps the conditional wake up from power down, but
re-introduces the unconditional soft reset using the generic soft reset
function.
It was tested on linux-4.1.25 and linux-4.7.0-rc2.

Rabin Vincent 185be5aef1 phy: fix crash in fixed_phy_add()
Since e7f4dc3536 ("mdio: Move allocation of interrupts into core"),
platforms which call fixed_phy_add() before fixed_mdio_bus_init() is
called (for example, because the platform code and the fixed_phy driver
use the same initcall level) crash in fixed_phy_add() since the
->mii_bus is not allocated.

Also since e7f4dc3536, these interrupts are initalized to polling by
default.  The few (old) platforms which directly use fixed_phy_add()
from their platform code all pass PHY_POLL for the irq argument, so we
can keep these platforms not crashing by simply not attempting to set
the irq if PHY_POLL is passed.

Also, even if problems have not been reported on more modern platforms
which used fixed_phy_register() from drivers' probe functions, we return
-EPROBE_DEFER if the MDIO bus is not yet registered so that the probe is
retried later.

If you compile without OF_MDIO support in an RGMII configuration, we fail
to configure the dp83867 phy today by writing garbage into its configuration
registers.

On the other hand if you do compile with OF_MDIO and the phy gets loaded via
device tree, you have to have the properties set in the device tree, otherwise
we fail to load the driver and don't even attach the generic phy driver to
the interface anymore.

To make things slightly more consistent, make the rgmii configuration properties
optional and allow a user to omit them in their device tree.

Alexander Graf 7f32541c2f phy dp83867: Fix compilation with CONFIG_OF_MDIO=m
When CONFIG_OF_MDIO is configured as module, the #define for it really
is CONFIG_OF_MDIO_MODULE, not CONFIG_OF_MDIO. So if we are compiling it
as module, the dp83867 doesn't see that OF_MDIO was selected and doesn't
read the dt rgmii parameters.

The fix is simple: Use IS_ENABLED(). It checks for both - module as well
as compiled in code.

If phy was suspended and is starting, current driver always enable
phy's interrupts, if phy works in polling, phy can raise unexpected
interrupt which will not be handled, the interrupt will block system

Marek Vasut 70e927b98b mdio_bus: Fix MDIO bus scanning in __mdiobus_register()
Since commit b74766a0a0 ("phylib: don't return NULL
from get_phy_device()") in linux-next, phy_get_device() will return
ERR_PTR(-ENODEV) instead of NULL if the PHY device ID is all ones.

This causes problem with stmmac driver and likely some other drivers
which call mdiobus_register(). I triggered this bug on SoCFPGA MCVEVK
board with linux-next 20160427 and 20160428. In case of the stmmac, if
there is no PHY node specified in the DT for the stmmac block, the stmmac
driver ( drivers/net/ethernet/stmicro/stmmac/stmmac_mdio.c function
stmmac_mdio_register() ) will call mdiobus_register() , which will
register the MDIO bus and probe for the PHY.

The mdiobus_register() resp. __mdiobus_register() iterates over all of
the addresses on the MDIO bus and calls mdiobus_scan() for each of them,
which invokes get_phy_device(). Before the aforementioned patch, the
mdiobus_scan() would return NULL if no PHY was found on a given address
and mdiobus_register() would continue and try the next PHY address. Now,
mdiobus_scan() returns ERR_PTR(-ENODEV), which is caught by the
'if (IS_ERR(phydev))' condition and the loop exits immediately if the
PHY address does not contain PHY.

Repair this by explicitly checking for the ERR_PTR(-ENODEV) and if this
error comes around, continue with the next PHY address.

Timur Tabi a05d7dfc51 net: phy: at803x: only the AT8030 needs a hardware reset on link change
Commit 13a56b44 ("at803x: Add support for hardware reset") added a
work-around for a hardware bug on the AT8030.  However, the work-around
was being called for all 803x PHYs, even those that don't need it.
Function at803x_link_change_notify() checks to make sure that it only
resets the PHY on the 8030, but it makes more sense to not call that
function at all if it isn't needed.

Mark Brown a1459c1c9e net: phy: spi_ks8895: Don't leak references to SPI devices
The ks8895 driver is using spi_dev_get() apparently just to take a copy
of the SPI device used to instantiate it but never calls spi_dev_put()
to free it.  Since the device is guaranteed to exist between probe() and
remove() there should be no need for the driver to take an extra
reference to it so fix the leak by just using a straight assignment.

wangweidong f48256efed phy: make some bits preserved while setup forced mode
When tested the PHY SGMII Loopback:
1.set the LOOPBACK bit,
2.set the autoneg to AUTONEG_DISABLE, it calls the
genphy_setup_forced which will clear the bit.

The BMCR_LOOPBACK bit should be preserved.

As Florian pointed out that other bits should be preserved too.
So I make the BMCR_ISOLATE and BMCR_PDOWN as well.

MDIO devices can be stacked upon each other. The current code supports
two levels, which until recently has been enough for a DSA mdio bus on

Sebastian Frias 9eb13f65c3 net: phy: at803x: Request 'reset' GPIO only for AT8030 PHY
This removes the dependency on GPIOLIB for non faulty PHYs.

Indeed, without this patch, if GPIOLIB is not selected
devm_gpiod_get_optional() will return -ENOSYS and the driver probe
call will fail, regardless of the actual PHY hardware.

Out of the 3 PHYs supported by this driver (AT8030, AT8031, AT8035),
only AT8030 presents the issues that commit 13a56b4493 ("net: phy:
at803x: Add support for hardware reset") attempts to work-around by
using a 'reset' GPIO line.

Hence, only AT8030 should depend on GPIOLIB operating properly.

Sergei Shtylyov d57019d185 at803x: fix reset handling
The driver of course "knows" that the chip's reset signal is active low,
so  it drives the GPIO to 0  to reset the PHY and to 1 otherwise; however
all this will only work iff the GPIO  is  specified as active-high in the
device tree!  I think both the driver and the device trees (if there are
any -- I was unable to find them) need to be fixed in this case...

Andrew Lunn 5bcbe0f35f phy: fixed: Fix removal of phys.
The fixed phys delete function simply removed the fixed phy from the
internal linked list and freed the memory. It however did not
unregister the associated phy device. This meant it was still possible
to find the phy device on the mdio bus.

Make fixed_phy_del() an internal function and add a
fixed_phy_unregister() to unregisters the phy device and then uses
fixed_phy_del() to free resources.

Modify DSA to use this new API function, so we don't leak phys.

David Daney 379d7ac7ca phy: mdio-thunder: Add driver for Cavium Thunder SoC MDIO buses.
The Cavium Thunder SoCs have multiple MIDO buses that are part of a
single PCI device.  To model this in the device tree we call the PCI
parent device a "cavium,thunder-8890-mdio-nexus", it has several
children, one for each MDIO bus.

The MDIO bus hardware is identical to that found in the OCTEON SoCs,
so we use that code for things that are not part of the PCI driver
probe/remove

David Daney 1eefee901f phy: mdio-octeon: Refactor into two files/modules
A follow-on patch uses PCI probing to find the Thunder MDIO hardware.
In preparation for this, split out the common code into a new file
mdio-cavium.c, which will be used by both the existing OCTEON driver,
and the new Thunder PCI based driver.

As part of the refactoring simplify the struct cavium_mdiobus by
removing fields that are only ever used in the probe function and can
just as well be local variables.

Use readq/writeq in preference to readq_relaxed/writeq_relaxed as the
relaxed form was an optimization for an early chip revision, and the
MDIO drivers are not performance bottlenecks that need optimization in
the first place.

Zefir Kurtisi 98267311fe at803x: fix suspend/resume for SGMII link
When operating the at803x in SGMII mode, resuming the chip
from power down brings up the copper-side link but leaves
the SGMII link in unconnected state (tested with at8031
attached to gianfar). In effect, this caused a permanent
link loss once the related interface was put down.

This patch ensures that power down handling in supspend()
and resume() is also applied to the SGMII link.

Alexandre Belloni 99f81afc13 phy: micrel: Disable auto negotiation on startup
Disable auto negotiation on init to properly detect an already plugged
cable at boot.

At boot, when the phy is started, it is in the PHY_UP state.
However, if a cable is plugged at boot, because auto negociation is already
enabled at the time we get the first interrupt, the phy is already running.
But the state machine then switches from PHY_UP to PHY_AN and calls
phy_start_aneg(). phy_start_aneg() will not do anything because aneg is
already enabled on the phy. It will then wait for a interrupt before going
further. This interrupt will never happen unless the cable is unplugged and
then replugged.

It was working properly before 321beec504 (net: phy: Use interrupts when
available in NOLINK state) because switching to NOLINK meant starting
polling the phy, even if IRQ were enabled.

A bug was introduced in the merge commit b633353115 ("Merge
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/davem/net")
The generic marvell_config_init (and therefore marvell_of_reg_init) is
not called anymore for the Marvell 88E1510 (in net-next).

This patch calls marvell_config_init and moves the specific init
function for the 88E1510 below the marvell_config_init function to avoid
adding a function predeclaration.
