Hugh Dickins 3f31d07571 mm/fs: route MADV_REMOVE to FALLOC_FL_PUNCH_HOLE
Now tmpfs supports hole-punching via fallocate(), switch madvise_remove()
to use do_fallocate() instead of vmtruncate_range(): which extends
madvise(,,MADV_REMOVE) support from tmpfs to ext4, ocfs2 and xfs.

There is one more user of vmtruncate_range() in our tree,
staging/android's ashmem_shrink(): convert it to use do_fallocate() too
(but if its unpinned areas are already unmapped - I don't know - then it
would do better to use shmem_truncate_range() directly).

Ryota Ozaki f623881872 mm: fix off-by-one bug in print_nodes_state()
/sys/devices/system/node/{online,possible} outputs a garbage byte
because print_nodes_state() returns content size + 1.  To fix the bug,
the patch changes the use of cpuset_sprintf_cpulist to follow the use at
other places, which is clearer and safer.

This bug was introduced in v2.6.24 (commit bde631a51876: "mm: add node
states sysfs class attributeS").

Alan Cox 8f6576ad47 tty: fix ldisc lock inversion trace
This is caused by tty_release using tty_lock_pair to lock both sides of
the pty/tty pair, and then tty_ldisc_release dropping and relocking one
side only.  We can drop both fine, so drop both to avoid any lock
ordering concerns.

Rework the release path to fix the new locking model.

Alan Cox d3ca8b64b9 pty: Fix lock inversion
The ptmx_open path takes the tty and devpts locks in the wrong order
because tty_init_dev locks and returns a locked tty.  As far as I can
tell this is actually safe anyway because the tty being returned is new
so nobody can get a reference to lock it at this point.

However we don't even need the devpts lock at this point, it's only held
as a byproduct of the way the locks were pushe down.

Alex Deucher 1ebf169ad4 drm/radeon: fix XFX quirk
Only override the ddc bus if the connector doesn't have
a valid one.  The existing code overrode the ddc bus for
all connectors even if it had ddc bus.

Fixes ddc on another XFX card with the same pci ids that
was broken by the quirk overwriting the correct ddc bus.

Mauro Carvalho Chehab 0bf09e829d i7core: fix ranks information at the per-channel struct
There is a flag at the per-channel struct that indicates if there are
any 4R dimm on it. The way the presence of this flag were reported
is not ok, as it might give the false idea that the channel were filled
with 2R memories:

Mauro Carvalho Chehab 64e1fdaf55 i5000_edac: Fix the logic that retrieves memory information
The logic there is broken: it basically creates two csrows for
each DIMM and assumes that all DIMM's are dual rank. Only one of
the csrows will contain the entire DIMM size. If single rank
memories are found, they'll be marked with 0 bytes.

The check if the AMB is present were also wrong.

Yet, as the error reports don't use the memory size in order to
credit an error to the right DIMM, that part of the driver seems
to work. That's why probably nobody detected the issue yet.

After this patch, the memory layout is now properly reported,
when debug mode is enabled, and the number of ranks per dimm is
now shown:

While userspace doesn't fill the dimm labels, add there the dimm location,
as described by the used memory model. This could eventually match what
is described at the dmidecode, making easier for people to identify the
memory.

For example, on an Intel motherboard where the DMI table is reliable,
the first memory stick is described as:

The memory named as "A1_DIMM0" is physically located at the first
memory controller (node 0), at channel 0, dimm slot 0.

After this patch, the memory label will be filled with:
	/sys/devices/system/edac/mc/csrow0/ch0_dimm_label:mc#0channel#0slot#0

And (after the new EDAC API patches) as:
	/sys/devices/system/edac/mc/mc0/dimm0/dimm_label:mc#0channel#0slot#0

So, even if the memory label is not initialized on userspace, an useful
information with the error location is filled there, expecially since
several systems/motherboards are provided with enough info to map from
channel/slot (or branch/channel/slot) into the DIMM label. So, letting the
EDAC core fill it by default is a good thing.

It should noticed that, as the label filling happens at the
edac_mc_alloc(), drivers can override it to better describe the memories
(and some actually do it).

Mauro Carvalho Chehab 4275be6355 edac: Change internal representation to work with layers
Change the EDAC internal representation to work with non-csrow
based memory controllers.

There are lots of those memory controllers nowadays, and more
are coming. So, the EDAC internal representation needs to be
changed, in order to work with those memory controllers, while
preserving backward compatibility with the old ones.

The edac core was written with the idea that memory controllers
are able to directly access csrows.

This is not true for FB-DIMM and RAMBUS memory controllers.

Also, some recent advanced memory controllers don't present a per-csrows
view. Instead, they view memories as DIMMs, instead of ranks.

So, change the allocation and error report routines to allow
them to work with all types of architectures.

This will allow the removal of several hacks with FB-DIMM and RAMBUS
memory controllers.

Also, several tests were done on different platforms using different
x86 drivers.

TODO: a multi-rank DIMMs are currently represented by multiple DIMM
entries in struct dimm_info. That means that changing a label for one
rank won't change the same label for the other ranks at the same DIMM.
This bug is present since the beginning of the EDAC, so it is not a big
deal. However, on several drivers, it is possible to fix this issue, but
it should be a per-driver fix, as the csrow => DIMM arrangement may not
be equal for all. So, don't try to fix it here yet.

I tried to make this patch as short as possible, preceding it with
several other patches that simplified the logic here. Yet, as the
internal API changes, all drivers need changes. The changes are
generally bigger in the drivers for FB-DIMMs.

Mauro Carvalho Chehab 93e4fe64ec edac: rewrite edac_align_ptr()
The edac_align_ptr() function is used to prepare data for a single
memory allocation kzalloc() call. It counts how many bytes are needed
by some data structure.

Using it as-is is not that trivial, as the quantity of memory elements
reserved is not there, but, instead, it is on a next call.

In order to avoid mistakes when using it, move the number of allocated
elements into it, making easier to use it.

The number of pages is a dimm property. Move it to the dimm struct.

After this change, it is possible to add sysfs nodes for the DIMM's that
will properly represent the DIMM stick properties, including its size.

A TODO fix here is to properly represent dual-rank/quad-rank DIMMs when
the memory controller represents the memory via chip select rows.

Almost all edac	drivers	initialize csrow_info->first_page,
csrow_info->last_page and csrow_info->page_mask. Those vars are
used inside the EDAC core, in order to calculate the csrow affected
by an error, by using the routine edac_mc_find_csrow_by_page().

However, very few drivers actually use it:
        e752x_edac.c
        e7xxx_edac.c
        i3000_edac.c
        i82443bxgx_edac.c
        i82860_edac.c
        i82875p_edac.c
        i82975x_edac.c
        r82600_edac.c

There also a few other drivers that have their own calculus
formula internally using those vars.

All the others are just wasting time by initializing those
data.

While initializing data without using them won't cause any troubles, as
those information is stored at the wrong place (at csrows structure), it
is better to remove what is unused, in order to simplify the next patch.

On systems based on chip select rows, all channels need to use memories
with the same properties, otherwise the memories on channels A and B
won't be recognized.

However, such assumption is not true for all types of memory
controllers.

Controllers for FB-DIMM's don't have such requirements.

Also, modern Intel controllers seem to be capable of handling such
differences.

So, we need to get rid of storing the DIMM information into a per-csrow
data, storing it, instead at the right place.

The first step is to move grain, mtype, dtype and edac_mode to the
per-dimm struct.

The way a DIMM is currently represented implies that they're
linked into a per-csrow struct. However, some drivers don't see
csrows, as they're ridden behind some chip like the AMB's
on FBDIMM's, for example.

This forced drivers to fake^Wvirtualize a csrow struct, and to create
a mess under csrow/channel original's concept.

Move the DIMM labels into a per-DIMM struct, and add there
the real location of the socket, in terms of csrow/channel.
Latter patches will modify the location to properly represent the
memory architecture.

All other drivers will use a per-csrow type of location.
Some of those drivers will require a latter conversion, as
they also fake the csrows internally.

TODO: While this patch doesn't change the existing behavior, on
csrows-based memory controllers, a csrow/channel pair points to a memory
rank. There's a known bug at the EDAC core that allows having different
labels for the same DIMM, if it has more than one rank. A latter patch
is need to merge the several ranks for a DIMM into the same dimm_info
struct, in order to avoid having different labels for the same DIMM.

The edac_mc_alloc() will now contain a per-dimm initialization loop that
will be changed by latter patches in order to match other types of
memory architectures.

Add device info into list before doing context mapping, because device
info will be used by iommu_enable_dev_iotlb(). Without it, ATS won't get
enabled as it should be.

ATS, while a dubious decision from a security point of view, can be very

Chris Wilson eeafaaca76 drm/i915/hdmi: Fix reg values for g4x_hdmi_connected
Paulo pointed out that gen4 re-used the SDVO registers for HDMI (the

Ben Widawsky 23ba4fd0a4 drm/i915: wait render timeout ioctl
This helps implement GL_ARB_sync but stops short of allowing full blown
sync objects. Finally we can use the new timed seqno waiting function
to allow userspace to wait on a buffer object with a timeout. This
implements that interface.

The IOCTL will take as input a buffer object handle, and a timeout in
nanoseconds (flags is currently optional but will likely be used for
permutations of flush operations). Users may specify 0 nanoseconds to
instantly check.

The wait ioctl with a timeout of 0 reimplements the busy ioctl. With any
non-zero timeout parameter the wait ioctl will wait for the given number
of nanoseconds on an object becoming unbusy. Since the wait itself does
so holding struct_mutex the object may become re-busied before this
completes. A similar but shorter race condition exists in the busy
ioctl.

Daniel Vetter ef12dab779 drm/i915: tune down the noise of the RP irq limit fail
We still don't understand why this fails exactly, but if fails way
too often for a simple debug information. Furthermore the current
ducttape should prevent the gpu from getting stuck at low frequencies.

Hence tune down the dmesg noise.

Note that the known failure case is that the register read returns 0
when the gpu gets confused.

Broadwater and Crestline share a limitation that prevent it from
relocating general surface state above 4GiB. The only recourse we have
since any buffer object may be used as a relocation target is then to
limit all object allocations on 965g[m] to DMA32.

Ben Widawsky f3fd37683c drm/i915: improve i915_wait_request_begin trace
The trace events adds whether or not the wait was blocking. Blocking in
this case means to hold struct_mutex (ie. no new work can be submitted
during the wait). The information is inherently racy.

The blocking information is racy since mutex_is_locked doesn't check
that the current thread holds the lock. The only other option would be
to pass the boolean information of whether or not the class was blocking
down through the stack which is less desirable.

Daniel Vetter 4c78513e45 dma-buf: mmap support
Compared to Rob Clark's RFC I've ditched the prepare/finish hooks
and corresponding ioctls on the dma_buf file. The major reason for
that is that many people seem to be under the impression that this is
also for synchronization with outstanding asynchronous processsing.
I'm pretty massively opposed to this because:

- It boils down reinventing a new rather general-purpose userspace
  synchronization interface. If we look at things like futexes, this
  is hard to get right.
- Furthermore a lot of kernel code has to interact with this
  synchronization primitive. This smells a look like the dri1 hw_lock,
  a horror show I prefer not to reinvent.
- Even more fun is that multiple different subsystems would interact
  here, so we have plenty of opportunities to create funny deadlock
  scenarios.

I think synchronization is a wholesale different problem from data
sharing and should be tackled as an orthogonal problem.

Now we could demand that prepare/finish may only ensure cache
coherency (as Rob intended), but that runs up into the next problem:
We not only need mmap support to facilitate sw-only processing nodes
in a pipeline (without jumping through hoops by importing the dma_buf
into some sw-access only importer), which allows for a nicer
ION->dma-buf upgrade path for existing Android userspace. We also need
mmap support for existing importing subsystems to support existing
userspace libraries. And a loot of these subsystems are expected to
export coherent userspace mappings.

So prepare/finish can only ever be optional and the exporter /needs/
to support coherent mappings. Given that mmap access is always
somewhat fallback-y in nature I've decided to drop this optimization,
instead of just making it optional. If we demonstrate a clear need for
this, supported by benchmark results, we can always add it in again
later as an optional extension.

Other differences compared to Rob's RFC is the above mentioned support
for mapping a dma-buf through facilities provided by the importer.
Which results in mmap support no longer being optional.

Note that this dma-buf mmap patch does _not_ support every possible
insanity an existing subsystem could pull of with mmap: Because it
does not allow to intercept pagefaults and shoot down ptes importing
subsystems can't add some magic of their own at these points (e.g. to
automatically synchronize with outstanding rendering or set up some
special resources). I've done a cursory read through a few mmap
implementions of various subsytems and I'm hopeful that we can avoid
this (and the complexity it'd bring with it).

Additonally I've extended the documentation a bit to explain the hows
and whys of this mmap extension.

In case we ever want to add support for explicitly cache maneged
userspace mmap with a prepare/finish ioctl pair, we could specify that
userspace needs to mmap a different part of the dma_buf, e.g. the
range starting at dma_buf->size up to dma_buf->size*2. This works
because the size of a dma_buf is invariant over it's lifetime. The
exporter would obviously need to fall back to coherent mappings for
both ranges if a legacy clients maps the coherent range and the
architecture cannot suppor conflicting caching policies. Also, this
would obviously be optional and userspace needs to be able to fall
back to coherent mappings.

Media turbo requests can either use RPVSWREQ or RPNSWREQ to indicate
what the interrupt handler should do.  Since we only deal with the

Daniel Vetter 0af78a2bb4 drm/i915: reject doubleclocked cea modes on dp
These are ultra-low-res modes used to upscale SDTV content and we
don't know how to support these on dp on intel hw:
- It's unclear whether we can send avi infoframes over dp ports.
- And the pixel repeat setting that work for hdmi/sdvo explicitly
  don't work for dp.

So don't bother and just reject these modes. These modes have been
introduced in

Rodrigo Vivi 9589919fb3 drm/i915: Adding TV Out Missing modes.
These 2 modes were removed by mistake during a clean up.
So, now it is time to add them back. For further info about

Daniel Vetter 6cb49835da drm/i915: enable vdd when switching off the eDP panel
We have one bug report from a validation team that we get the eDP
panel sequencing still somewhat wrong: We need to enable VDD while
switching off the panel and backlight. Unfortunately that reporter
seems to have fallen off the earth :(

For another reporter this actually fixes a black panel issue because
without this the backlight/panel gets confused and doesn't light up
again.

v2: I've forgotten to remove the vdd_off call in panel_off which is
now bogus. This essentially reverts

Chris Wilson 92b27b088c drm/i915: Fix PCH PLL assertions to not assume CRTC:PLL relationship
The existing assertions were written under the assumption that we wanted
to test the related PLL to a CRTC. With the split of PLL into a
separately managed entity which may be shared amongst CRTCs, we need to
pass in both the CRTC and the PLL to the assertion routine.
Occassionally, this means passing NULL for the CRTC as we wish to check
the status of the PLL irrespective of the current CRTC.

Chris Wilson 7b9e0ae6da drm/i915: Always update RPS interrupts thresholds along with frequency
In order to avoid missed down-interrupts when coming out of RC6, it is
advised that we always reset the down-threshold upon a PM event. This is
due to that the PM unit goes through a little dance when coming out of
RC6, it first brings the GPU up at the lowest frequency then a short
time later it restores the thresholds. During that interval, the
down-interval may expire and the interrupt be suppressed.

Now aware of the dance taking place within the GPU when coming out of
RC6, one wonders what other writes need to be queued in the fifo buffer
in order to be properly sequenced; setting the RP state appears to be
one.

Daniel Vetter 59d92bfa5f drm/i915: properly handle interlaced bit for sdvo dtd conversion
We've simply ignored this, which isn't too great. With this, interlaced
1080i works on my HDMI screen connected through sdvo. For no apparent
reason anything else still doesn't work as it should.

While at it, give these magic numbers in the dtd proper names and
add a comment that they match with EDID detailed timings.

Andreas Heider 2f3787aa43 drm/nouveau: Check dsm on switcheroo unregister
Currently vga_switcheroo_unregister_handler is called unconditionally when
nouveau is unloaded, even when nouveau never registered a handler. This
interferes with other switcheroo handlers, as vga_switcheroo doesn't check who
called unregister_handler, but simply unregisters the current handler. This
patch adds a check so unregister is only called if a handler was registered by
nouveau before.

being a master channel list still.  This is changing, slowly.

The 750MHz value comes from fiddling with the binary driver + coolbits on

where this number comes from.

Tested on NVS300 by hacking up perflvl 1 to require PLL mode, and switching

Ben Skeggs 4719b55be5 drm/nva3/pm: begin to restructure memory clock changes + another magic
The binary driver appears to do various bits and pieces of the memory
clock frequency change at different times, depending on the particular
transition that's occuring.  I've attempted to replicate this here
for div->pll, pll->div and div->div transitions.

With some additional (patches upcoming) magic regs being bashed, this
allows me to correctly transition between all 3 perflvls on NVS300.

pll->pll transitions will *not* work correctly at the moment, pending
me tricking the binary driver into doing one and seeing how to correctly
handle it.

This patch also handles (hopefully) 0x1110e0, which appears to need
changing depending on whether in PLL or divider mode.. Maybe.  We'll
see.

Let's see if anybody screams.  It generally has compiled, and James
Bottomley pointed out that there was a MCA extension from NCR that
allowed for up to 4GB of memory and PPro-class machines.  So in *theory*
there may be users out there.

But even James (technically listed as a maintainer) doesn't actually
have a system, and while Alan Cox claims to have a machine in his cellar
that he offered to anybody who wants to take it off his hands, he didn't
argue for keeping MCA support either.

So we could bring it back.  But somebody had better speak up and talk
about how they have actually been using said MCA hardware with modern
kernels for us to do that.  And David already took the patch to delete
all the networking driver code (commit a5e371f61ad3: "drivers/net:
delete all code/drivers depending on CONFIG_MCA").

This is the first big chunk for 3.5 merges of sound stuff.
 There are a few big changes in different areas.  First off, the
 streaming logic of USB-audio endpoints has been largely rewritten
 for the better support of "implicit feedback".  If anything about USB
 got broken, this change has to be checked.
 
 For HD-audio, the resume procedure was changed; instead of delaying

Hans de Goede 5f2430f554 watchdog: s3c2410_wdt: Set timeout to actually achieved timeout
While rebasing my "watchdog_dev: Let the driver update the timeout field on
set_timeout success" patch (before I noticed it was already picked up by Wim),
I noticed that the s3c2410_wdt driver may not always have a 1 second
resolution, this patch changes s3c2410wdt_set_heartbeat to update the
timeout to the actually achieved timeout.

Dave Mueller 8f90a3ae8f watchdog: sch311x_wdt.c: Remove RESGEN
The SCH311x chip contains 2 watchdogs. One is the watchdog programmable
by the runtime register at address 0x65-0x68, the other is the watchdog
inside the power on reset generator. This second watchdog has a fixed
timeout value of ~1.6 seconds and is configurable only by the RESGEN
register.

The BIOS normally takes care of the RESGEN watchdog and disables it (at
least) before the OS is booted.

Unfortunately the sch311x_wdt driver clears bit 0 of the RESGEN register
which has the effect that at the latest 1.6 seconds later, a POR is
triggered.

The attached patch fixes this problem by completely removing any
reference to the RESGEN watchdog from the sch311x_wdt driver.

Problem:
When CONFIG_AB8500_CORE is set, building ab8500-core.c and
!(CONFIG_UX500_SOC_DB8500 | CONFIG_MFD_DB8500_PRCMU), both db8500-prcmu.h
and dbx500-prcmu.h take it upon themselves to _both_ create 'return 0'
inline functions for the following:

prcmu_abb_read()
prcmu_abb_write()
prcmu_config_clkout()
prcmu_ac_wake_req()
prcmu_ac_sleep_req()

Solution:
Depend on MFD_DB8500_PRCMU, which in turn depends on UX500_SOC_DB8500.

Alex Deucher 40f5cf9969 drm/radeon: add PRIME support (v2)
This adds prime->fd and fd->prime support to radeon.
It passes the sg object to ttm and then populates
the gart entries using it.

Compile tested only.

Daniel Vetter 1286ff7397 i915: add dmabuf/prime buffer sharing support.
This adds handle->fd and fd->handle support to i915, this is to allow
for offloading of rendering in one direction and outputs in the other.

v2 from Daniel Vetter:
- fixup conflicts with the prepare/finish gtt prep work.
- implement ppgtt binding support.

Note that we have squat i-g-t testcoverage for any of the lifetime and
access rules dma_buf/prime support brings along. And there are quite a
few intricate situations here.

Also note that the integration with the existing code is a bit
hackish, especially around get_gtt_pages and put_gtt_pages. It imo
would be easier with the prep code from Chris Wilson's unbound series,
but that is for 3.6.

Also note that I didn't bother to put the new prepare/finish gtt hooks
to good use by moving the dma_buf_map/unmap_attachment calls in there
(like we've originally planned for).

Last but not least this patch is only compile-tested, but I've changed
very little compared to Dave Airlie's version. So there's a decent
chance v2 on drm-next works as well as v1 on 3.4-rc.

v3: Right when I've hit sent I've noticed that I've screwed up one
obj->sg_list (for dmar support) and obj->sg_table (for prime support)
disdinction. We should be able to merge these 2 paths, but that's
material for another patch.

v4: fix the error reporting bugs pointed out by ickle.

v5: fix another error, and stop non-gtt mmaps on shared objects
stop pread/pwrite on imported objects, add fake kmap

Dave Airlie 129b78bfca ttm: add prime sharing support to TTM (v2)
This adds the ability for ttm common code to take an SG table
and use it as the backing for a slave TTM object.

The drivers can then populate their GTT tables using the SG object.
