Ilia Mirkin 04b8a4bd8e drm/nouveau/gem: return only valid domain when there's only one
On nv50+, we restrict the valid domains to just the one where the buffer
was originally created. However after the buffer is evicted to system
memory, we might move it back to a different domain that was not
originally valid. When sharing the buffer and retrieving its GEM_INFO
data, we still want the domain that will be valid for this buffer in a
pushbuf, not the one where it currently happens to be.

This resolves fdo#92504 and several others. These are due to suspend
evicting all buffers, making it more likely that they temporarily end up
in the wrong place.

Ben Skeggs a01ca78c8f drm/nouveau/nvif: simplify and tidy library interfaces
A variety of tweaks to the NVIF library interfaces, mostly ripping out
things that turned out to be not so useful.

- Removed refcounting from nvif_object, callers are expected to not be
  stupid instead.
- nvif_client is directly reachable from anything derived from nvif_object,
  removing the need for heuristics to locate it
- _new() versions of interfaces, that allocate memory for the object
  they construct, have been removed.  The vast majority of callers used
  the embedded _init() interfaces.
- No longer storing constructor arguments (and the data returned from
  nvkm) inside nvif_object, it's more or less unused and just wastes
  memory.

Alexandre Courbot 996f545fbb drm/nouveau/gem: allow user-space to specify an object should be coherent
User-space use mappable BOs notably for fences, and expects that a
value update by the GPU will be immediatly visible through the
user-space mapping.

ARM has a property that may prevent this from happening though: memory
can be mapped multiple times only if the different mappings share the
same caching properties. However all the lowmem memory is already
identity-mapped into the kernel with cache enabled, so when user-space
requests an uncached mapping, we actually get an "undefined caching
policy" one and this has strange side-effects described on Freedesktop
bug 86690.

To prevent this from happening, allow user-space to explicitly specify
which objects should be coherent, and create such objects with the
TTM_PL_FLAG_UNCACHED flag. This will make TTM allocate memory using the
DMA API, which will fix the identify mapping and allow us to safely map
the objects to user-space uncached.

Ben Skeggs be83cd4ef9 drm/nouveau: finalise nvkm namespace switch (no binary change)
The namespace of NVKM is being changed to nvkm_ instead of nouveau_,
which will be used for the DRM part of the driver.  This is being
done in order to make it very clear as to what part of the driver a
given symbol belongs to, and as a minor step towards splitting the
DRM driver out to be able to stand on its own (for virt).

Because there's already a large amount of churn here anyway, this is
as good a time as any to also switch to NVIDIA's device and chipset
naming to ease collaboration with them.

A comparison of objdump disassemblies proves no code changes.

NVKM is having it's namespace switched to nvkm_, which will conflict
with these functions (which are workarounds for the fact that as of
yet, we still aren't able to split DRM and NVKM completely).

Alexandre Courbot b22870ba6a drm/nouveau: synchronize BOs when required
On architectures for which access to GPU memory is non-coherent,
caches need to be flushed and invalidated explicitly when BO control
changes between CPU and GPU.

This patch adds buffer synchronization functions which invokes the
correct API (PCI or DMA) to ensure synchronization is effective.

Based on the TTM DMA cache helper patches by Lucas Stach.

Thomas Hellstrom 355a701838 drm/gem: Warn on illegal use of the dumb buffer interface v2
It happens on occasion that developers of generic user-space applications
abuse the dumb buffer API to get hold of drm buffers that they can both
mmap() and use for GPU acceleration, using the assumptions that dumb buffers
and buffers available for GPU are
a) The same type and can be aribtrarily type-casted.
b) fully coherent.

This patch makes the most widely used drivers warn nicely when that happens,
the next step will be to fail.

v2: Move drmP.h changes to drm_gem.h. Fix Radeon dumb mmap breakage.

Apart from some code inside ttm itself and nouveau_bo_vma_del,
this is the only place where ttm_bo_wait is used without a reservation.
Fix this so we can remove the fence_lock later on.

After the switch to rcu the reservation lock will be
removed again.

David Herrmann 44d847b743 drm: init TTM dev_mapping in ttm_bo_device_init()
With dev->anon_inode we have a global address_space ready for operation
right from the beginning. Therefore, there is no need to do a delayed
setup with TTM. Instead, set dev_mapping during initialization in
ttm_bo_device_init() and remove any "if (dev_mapping)" conditions.

David Herrmann 6796cb16c0 drm: use anon-inode instead of relying on cdevs
DRM drivers share a common address_space across all character-devices of a
single DRM device. This allows simple buffer eviction and mapping-control.
However, DRM core currently waits for the first ->open() on any char-dev
to mark the underlying inode as backing inode of the device. This delayed
initialization causes ugly conditions all over the place:
  if (dev->dev_mapping)
    do_sth();

To avoid delayed initialization and to stop reusing the inode of the
char-dev, we allocate an anonymous inode for each DRM device and reset
filp->f_mapping to it on ->open().

David Herrmann 16eb5f4379 drm: kill ->gem_init_object() and friends
All drivers embed gem-objects into their own buffer objects. There is no
reason to keep drm_gem_object_alloc(), gem->driver_private and
->gem_init_object() anymore.

New drivers are highly encouraged to do the same. There is no benefit in
allocating gem-objects separately.

David Herrmann 55fb74adc6 drm/nouveau: embed gem object in nouveau_bo
There is no reason to keep the gem object separately allocated. nouveau is
the last user of gem_obj->driver_private, so if we embed it, we can get
rid of 8bytes per gem-object.

The implementation follows the radeon driver. bo->gem is only valid, iff
the bo was created via the gem helpers _and_ iff the user holds a valid
gem reference. That is, as the gem object holds a reference to the
nouveau_bo. If you use nouveau_ref() to gain a bo reference, you are not
guaranteed to also hold a gem reference. The gem object might get
destroyed after the last user drops the gem-ref via
drm_gem_object_unreference(). Use drm_gem_object_reference() to gain a
gem-reference.

For debugging, we can use bo->gem.filp != NULL to test whether a gem-bo is
valid. However, this shouldn't be used for real functionality to avoid
gem-internal dependencies.

Note that the implementation follows the previous style. However, we no
longer can check for bo->gem != NULL to test for a valid gem object. This
wasn't done before, so we should be safe now.

game after a few days uptime with some suspend/resumes.

David Herrmann 72525b3f33 drm/ttm: convert to unified vma offset manager
Use the new vma-manager infrastructure. This doesn't change any
implementation details as the vma-offset-manager is nearly copied 1-to-1
from TTM.

The vm_lock is moved into the offset manager so we can drop it from TTM.
During lookup, we use the vma locking helpers to take a reference to the
found object.
In all other scenarios, locking stays the same as before. We always
guarantee that drm_vma_offset_remove() is called only during destruction.
Hence, helpers like drm_vma_node_offset_addr() are always safe as long as
the node has a valid offset.

This also drops the addr_space_offset member as it is a copy of vm_start
in vma_node objects. Use the accessor functions instead.

Maarten Lankhorst 5e33840511 drm/ttm: convert to the reservation api
Now that the code is compatible in semantics, flip the switch.
Use ww_mutex instead of the homegrown implementation.

ww_mutex uses -EDEADLK to signal that the caller has to back off,
and -EALREADY to indicate this buffer is already held by the caller.

ttm used -EAGAIN and -EDEADLK for those, respectively. So some changes
were needed to handle this correctly.

Maarten Lankhorst 979ee290ff drm/nouveau: increase reservation sequence every retry
This is temporary until the fence framework can be used. With the
lru/reservation atomicity removal it is possible to see your old
sequence number and the buffer being reserved, leading to erroneously
reporting -EDEADLK.

Workaround it by bumping the sequence number every retry.

Maarten Lankhorst 97a875cbdf drm/ttm: remove no_wait_reserve, v3
All items on the lru list are always reservable, so this is a stupid
thing to keep. Not only that, it is used in a way which would
guarantee deadlocks if it were ever to be set to block on reserve.

This is a lot of churn, but mostly because of the removal of the
argument which can be nested arbitrarily deeply in many places.

No change of code in this patch except removal of the no_wait_reserve
argument, the previous patch removed the use of no_wait_reserve.

 - Warn if -EBUSY is returned on reservation, all objects on the list
   should be reservable. Adjusted patch slightly due to conflicts.

 - Focus on no_wait_reserve removal only.

Ben Skeggs ebb945a94b drm/nouveau: port all engines to new engine module format
This is a HUGE commit, but it's not nearly as bad as it looks - any problems
can be isolated to a particular chipset and engine combination.  It was
simply too difficult to port each one at a time, the compat layers are
*already* ridiculous.

Most of the changes here are simply to the glue, the process for each of the
engine modules was to start with a standard skeleton and copy+paste the old
code into the appropriate places, fixing up variable names etc as needed.

Remove redundant DRM UAPI header #inclusions from drivers/gpu/.

Remove redundant #inclusions of core DRM UAPI headers (drm.h, drm_mode.h and
drm_sarea.h).  They are now #included via drmP.h and drm_crtc.h via a preceding
patch.

Without this patch and the patch to make include the UAPI headers from the core
headers, after the UAPI split, the DRM C sources cannot find these UAPI headers
because the DRM code relies on specific -I flags to make #include "..."  work
on headers in include/drm/ - but that does not work after the UAPI split without
adding more -I flags.

Ilija Hadzic 949c4a34af drm: track dev_mapping in more robust and flexible way
Setting dev_mapping (pointer to the address_space structure
used for memory mappings) to the address_space of the first
opener's inode and then failing if other openers come in
through a different inode has a few restrictions that are
eliminated by this patch.

If we already have valid dev_mapping and we spot an opener
with different i_node, we force its i_mapping pointer to the
already established address_space structure (first opener's
inode). This will make all mappings from drm device hang off
the same address_space object.

Some benefits (things that now work and didn't work
before) of this patch are:

 * user space can mknod and use any number of device
   nodes and they will all work fine as long as the major
   device number is that of the drm module.
 * user space can even remove the first opener's device
   nodes and mknod the new one and the applications and
   windowing system will still work.
 * GPU drivers can safely assume that dev->dev_mapping is
   correct address_space and just blindly copy it
   into their (private) bdev.dev_mapping

Ben Skeggs a3fcd0a975 drm/nv50-nvc0: completely disable relocs
GPU virtual addresses are constant now so this should never be getting hit
anyway and userspace shouldn't break from them being ignored.

This is being done in preference to teaching the code how to deal with BOs
that exist at different virtual addresses within separate VMs.

Ben Skeggs db5c8e299a drm/nv50-nvc0: restrict memtype to those specified at creation time
Upcoming patches are going to enable full support for buffers that keep
a constant GPU virtual address whenever they're validated for use by
the GPU.

In order for this to work properly while keeping support for large pages,
we need to know if it's ever going to be possible for a buffer to end
up in GART, and if so, disable large pages for the buffer's VMA.

This is a new restriction that's not present in earlier kernel's, but
should not break userspace as the current code never attempts to validate
buffers into a memtype other than it was created with.

Ben Skeggs d550c41e4f drm/nouveau: remove no_vm/mappable flags from nouveau_bo
'mappable' isn't really used at all, nor is it necessary anymore as the
bo code is capable of moving buffers to mappable vram as required.

'no_vm' isn't necessary anymore either, any places that don't want to be
mapped into a GPU address space should allocate the VRAM directly instead.

it the card-specific vram code responsible for deciding if a given set

Marcin Slusarz 382d62e524 drm/nouveau: fix annoying nouveau_fence type issue
nouveau_fence_* functions are not type safe, which could lead to bugs.
Additionally every use of nouveau_fence_unref had to cast struct
nouveau_fence to void **.
Fix it by renaming old functions and creating static inline functions with
new prototypes. We still need old functions, because we pass function
pointers to ttm.
As we are wrapping functions, drop unused "void *arg" parameter where possible.

Thomas Hellstrom 702adba224 drm/ttm/radeon/nouveau: Kill the bo lock in favour of a bo device fence_lock
The bo lock used only to protect the bo sync object members, and since it
is a per bo lock, fencing a buffer list will see a lot of locks and unlocks.
Replace it with a per-device lock that protects the sync object members on
*all* bos. Reading and setting these members will always be very quick, so
the risc of heavy lock contention is microscopic. Note that waiting for
sync objects will always take place outside of this lock.

The bo device fence lock will eventually be replaced with a seqlock /
rcu mechanism so we can determine that a bo is idle under a
rcu / read seqlock.

However this change will allow us to batch fencing and unreserving of
buffers with a minimal amount of locking.

Dave Airlie 29d08b3efd drm/gem: handlecount isn't really a kref so don't make it one.
There were lots of places being inconsistent since handle count
looked like a kref but it really wasn't.

Fix this my just making handle count an atomic on the object,
and have it increase the normal object kref.

Now i915/radeon/nouveau drivers can drop the normal reference on
userspace object creation, and have the handle hold it.

This patch fixes a memory leak or corruption on unload, because
the driver had no way of knowing if a handle had been actually
added for this object, and the fbcon object needed to know this
to clean itself up properly.
