xenbus_va_dev_error() will try to write error messages to Xenstore
under the error/<dev-name>/error node (with <dev-name> something like
"device/vbd/51872"). This will fail normally and another message
about this failure is added to dmesg.
I believe this is a remnant from very ancient times, as it was added
in the first pvops rush of commits in 2007.
So remove the additional message when writing to Xenstore failed as
a minimum step.

'default n' is the default value for any bool or tristate Kconfig
setting so there is no need to write it explicitly.
Also since commit f467c5640c ("kconfig: only write '# CONFIG_FOO
is not set' for visible symbols") the Kconfig behavior is the same
regardless of 'default n' being present or not:
...
One side effect of (and the main motivation for) this change is making
the following two definitions behave exactly the same:
config FOO
bool
config FOO
bool
default n
With this change, neither of these will generate a
'# CONFIG_FOO is not set' line (assuming FOO isn't selected/implied).
That might make it clearer to people that a bare 'default n' is
redundant.

XEN_BACKEND doesn't actually depend on XEN_DOM0. DomUs can serve
backends to other DomUs. One example is a service VM providing network
backends.
The original Kconfig defaulted Dom0 to y and it could be disabled. DomU
could not select the option. With the new Kconfig, we default y for
Dom0 and n for DomU. Either can then toggle the selection.

In the iov_iter struct, separate the iterator type from the iterator
direction and use accessor functions to access them in most places.
Convert a bunch of places to use switch-statements to access them rather
then chains of bitwise-AND statements. This makes it easier to add further
iterator types. Also, this can be more efficient as to implement a switch
of small contiguous integers, the compiler can use ~50% fewer compare
instructions than it has to use bitwise-and instructions.
Further, cease passing the iterator type into the iterator setup function.
The iterator function can set that itself. Only the direction is required.

xen_swiotlb_{alloc,free}_coherent() allocate/free memory based on the
order of the pages and not size argument (bytes). This is inconsistent with
range_straddles_page_boundary and memset which use the 'size' value,
which may lead to not exchanging memory with Xen (range_straddles_page_boundary()
returned true). And then the call to xen_swiotlb_free_coherent() would
actually try to exchange the memory with Xen, leading to the kernel
hitting an BUG (as the hypercall returned an error).
This patch fixes it by making the 'size' variable be of the same size
as the amount of memory allocated.

We can use the arch_dma_coherent_to_pfn hook to provide a ->get_sgtable

The only functional differences (modulo a few missing fixes in the arch
code) is that architectures without coherent caches need a hook to
convert a virtual or dma address into a pfn, given that we don't have
the kernel linear mapping available for the otherwise easy virt_to_page
call. As a side effect we can support mmap of the per-device coherent
area even on architectures not providing the callback, and we make
previous dangerous default methods dma_common_mmap actually save for
non-coherent architectures by rejecting it without the right helper.
In addition to that we need a hook so that some architectures can
override the protection bits when mmaping a dma coherent allocations.

Patch series "mmu_notifiers follow ups".
Tetsuo has noticed some fallouts from 93065ac753 ("mm, oom: distinguish
blockable mode for mmu notifiers"). One of them has been fixed and picked
up by AMD/DRM maintainer [1]. XEN issue is fixed by patch 1. I have also
clarified expectations about blockable semantic of invalidate_range_end.
Finally the last patch removes MMU_INVALIDATE_DOES_NOT_BLOCK which is no
longer used nor needed.

This patch (of 3):
93065ac753 ("mm, oom: distinguish blockable mode for mmu notifiers") has
introduced blockable parameter to all mmu_notifiers and the notifier has
to back off when called in !blockable case and it could block down the
road.
The above commit implemented that for mn_invl_range_start but both
in_range checks are done unconditionally regardless of the blockable mode
and as such they would fail all the time for regular calls. Fix this by
checking blockable parameter as well.
Once we are there we can remove the stale TODO. The lock has to be
sleepable because we wait for completion down in gnttab_unmap_refs_sync.

This happens because handle_vcpu_hotplug_event is called twice. In the

cpu_present is false which causes get_cpu_device to return NULL.
In case of cpu#0, cpu_online is apparently always true.
Fix this crash by checking if the cpu can be hotplugged, which is false

Also check if the cpu was actually offlined by device_remove, otherwise

Scrubbing pages on initial balloon down can take some time, especially
in nested virtualization case (nested EPT is slow). When HVM/PVH guest is
started with memory= significantly lower than maxmem=, all the extra
pages will be scrubbed before returning to Xen. But since most of them
weren't used at all at that point, Xen needs to populate them first
(from populate-on-demand pool). In nested virt case (Xen inside KVM)
this slows down the guest boot by 15-30s with just 1.5GB needed to be
returned to Xen.
Add runtime parameter to enable/disable it, to allow initially disabling
scrubbing, then enable it back during boot (for example in initramfs).
Such usage relies on assumption that a) most pages ballooned out during
initial boot weren't used at all, and b) even if they were, very few
secrets are in the guest at that time (before any serious userspace
kicks in).
Convert CONFIG_XEN_SCRUB_PAGES to CONFIG_XEN_SCRUB_PAGES_DEFAULT (also
enabled by default), controlling default value for the new runtime
switch.

There are several blockable mmu notifiers which might sleep in
mmu_notifier_invalidate_range_start and that is a problem for the
oom_reaper because it needs to guarantee a forward progress so it cannot
depend on any sleepable locks.
Currently we simply back off and mark an oom victim with blockable mmu
notifiers as done after a short sleep. That can result in selecting a new
oom victim prematurely because the previous one still hasn't torn its
memory down yet.
We can do much better though. Even if mmu notifiers use sleepable locks
there is no reason to automatically assume those locks are held. Moreover
majority of notifiers only care about a portion of the address space and
there is absolutely zero reason to fail when we are unmapping an unrelated
range. Many notifiers do really block and wait for HW which is harder to
handle and we have to bail out though.
This patch handles the low hanging fruit.
__mmu_notifier_invalidate_range_start gets a blockable flag and callbacks
are not allowed to sleep if the flag is set to false. This is achieved by
using trylock instead of the sleepable lock for most callbacks and
continue as long as we do not block down the call chain.
I think we can improve that even further because there is a common pattern
to do a range lookup first and then do something about that. The first
part can be done without a sleeping lock in most cases AFAICS.
The oom_reaper end then simply retries if there is at least one notifier
which couldn't make any progress in !blockable mode. A retry loop is
already implemented to wait for the mmap_sem and this is basically the
same thing.
The simplest way for driver developers to test this code path is to wrap
userspace code which uses these notifiers into a memcg and set the hard
limit to hit the oom. This can be done e.g. after the test faults in all
the mmu notifier managed memory and set the hard limit to something really
small. Then we are looking for a proper process tear down.

This is unnecessary and triggers a warning in the hypervisor.
Often systems have more processor entries in their ACPI tables than are
actually installed/active. The ACPI_STA_DEVICE_PRESENT bit cannot be
reliably used, but the ACPI_MADT_ENABLED bit can. In order to not
introduce new functions in the main ACPI processor driver code, simply
use acpi_get_phys_id(), which does more than we need, but which checks
the MADT enabled bit in the process. Any CPU for which we can't
determine the APIC ID is unlikely to work properly anyway, so the extra
checks done by acpi_get_phys_id() should do no harm.

The current balloon code tries to calculate a delta factor for the
balloon target when running in HVM mode in order to account for memory
used by the firmware.
This workaround for memory accounting doesn't work properly on a PVH
Dom0, that has a static-max value different from the target value even
at startup. Note that this is not a problem for DomUs because guests are
started with a static-max value that matches the amount of RAM in the
memory map.
Fix this by forcefully setting target_diff for Dom0, regardless of

Rename target_alloc_session to target_setup_session to avoid confusion with
the other transport session allocation function that only allocates the
session and because the target_alloc_session does so much more. It
allocates the session, sets up the nacl and registers the session.
The next patch will then add a remove function to match the setup in this
one, so it should make sense for all drivers, except iscsi, to just call
those 2 functions to setup and remove a session.
iscsi will continue to be the odd driver.

Commit 910f8befdf ("xen/pirq: fix error path cleanup when binding

xen_bind_pirq_msi_to_irq(). This cleanup allowed a call to
__unbind_from_irq() with an unbound irq, which would result in
triggering the BUG_ON there.
Since there is really no reason for the BUG_ON (xen_free_irq() can
operate on unbound irqs) we can remove it.

For passing arbitrary data from user land to the Xen hypervisor the
Xen tools today are using mlock()ed buffers. Unfortunately the kernel
might change access rights of such buffers for brief periods of time
e.g. for page migration or compaction, leading to access faults in the
hypervisor, as the hypervisor can't use the locks of the kernel.
In order to solve this problem add a new device node to the Xen privcmd
driver to easily allocate hypercall buffers via mmap(). The memory is
allocated in the kernel and just mapped into user space. Marked as
VM_IO the user mapping will not be subject to page migration et al.

call dma_free_coherent() to free the memory, on xen_swiotlb_free_coherent()

All uploaded PM data from non-dom0 CPUs takes the info from vCPU 0 and
changing only the acpi_id. For processors which P-state coordination type
is HW_ALL (0xFD) it is OK to upload bogus P-state dependency information
(_PSD), because Xen will ignore any cpufreq domains created for past CPUs.
Albeit for platforms which expose coordination types as SW_ANY or SW_ALL,
this will have some unintended side effects. Effectively, it will look at
the P-state domain existence and *if it already exists* it will skip the
acpi-cpufreq initialization and thus inherit the policy from the first CPU
in the cpufreq domain. This will finally lead to the original cpu not
changing target freq to P0 other than the first in the domain. Which will
make turbo boost not getting enabled (e.g. for 'performance' governor) for
all cpus.
This patch fixes that, by also evaluating _PSD when we enumerate all ACPI
processors and thus always uploading the correct info to Xen. We export
acpi_processor_get_psd() for that this purpose, but change signature
to not assume an existent of acpi_processor given that ACPI isn't creating
an acpi_processor for non-dom0 CPUs.

Commit fd8aa9095a ("xen: optimize xenbus driver for multiple
concurrent xenstore accesses") made a subtle change to the semantic of
xenbus_dev_request_and_reply() and xenbus_transaction_end().
Before on an error response to XS_TRANSACTION_END
xenbus_dev_request_and_reply() would not decrement the active
transaction counter. But xenbus_transaction_end() has always counted the
transaction as finished regardless of the response.
The new behavior is that xenbus_dev_request_and_reply() and
xenbus_transaction_end() will always count the transaction as finished
regardless the response code (handled in xs_request_exit()).
But xenbus_dev_frontend tries to end a transaction on closing of the
device if the XS_TRANSACTION_END failed before. Trying to close the
transaction twice corrupts the reference count. So fix this by also
considering a transaction closed if we have sent XS_TRANSACTION_END once
regardless of the return code.

After bisection, it was found the first bad commit is bd4c82c22c ("mm,
THP, swap: delay splitting THP after swapped out").
The root cause is as follows:
When the pages are written to swap device during swapping out in
swap_writepage(), zswap (fontswap) is tried to compress the pages to
improve performance. But zswap (frontswap) will treat THP as a normal
page, so only the head page is saved. After swapping in, tail pages
will not be restored to their original contents, causing memory
corruption in the applications.
This is fixed by refusing to save page in the frontswap store functions
if the page is a THP. So that the THP will be swapped out to swap
device.
Another choice is to split THP if frontswap is enabled. But it is found
that the frontswap enabling isn't flexible. For example, if
CONFIG_ZSWAP=y (cannot be module), frontswap will be enabled even if
zswap itself isn't enabled.
Frontswap has multiple backends, to make it easy for one backend to
enable THP support, the THP checking is put in backend frontswap store
functions instead of the general interfaces.

Commit fd8aa9095a ("xen: optimize xenbus driver for multiple concurrent
xenstore accesses") optimized xenbus concurrent accesses but in doing so
broke UABI of /dev/xen/xenbus. Through /dev/xen/xenbus applications are in
charge of xenbus message exchange with the correct header and body. Now,
after the mentioned commit the replies received by application will no
longer have the header req_id echoed back as it was on request (see
specification below for reference), because that particular field is being
overwritten by kernel.
struct xsd_sockmsg
{
uint32_t type; /* XS_??? */
uint32_t req_id;/* Request identifier, echoed in daemon's response. */
uint32_t tx_id; /* Transaction id (0 if not related to a transaction). */
uint32_t len; /* Length of data following this. */
/* Generally followed by nul-terminated string(s). */
};
Before there was only one request at a time so req_id could simply be
forwarded back and forth. To allow simultaneous requests we need a
different req_id for each message thus kernel keeps a monotonic increasing
counter for this field and is written on every request irrespective of
userspace value.
Forwarding again the req_id on userspace requests is not a solution because
we would open the possibility of userspace-generated req_id colliding with
kernel ones. So this patch instead takes another route which is to
artificially keep user req_id while keeping the xenbus logic as is. We do
that by saving the original req_id before xs_send(), use the private kernel
counter as req_id and then once reply comes and was validated, we restore
back the original req_id.

This is the mindless scripted replacement of kernel use of POLL*

with de-mangling cleanups yet to come.
NOTE! On almost all architectures, the EPOLL* constants have the same
values as the POLL* constants do. But they keyword here is "almost".
For various bad reasons they aren't the same, and epoll() doesn't
actually work quite correctly in some cases due to this on Sparc et al.
The next patch from Al will sort out the final differences, and we

After the preparations (in this series) switch to returning EPOLL...
from ->poll() instances is completely mechanical and kernel-side
POLL... can go away. The last step (killing kernel-side POLL... and
unifying {de,}mangle_poll() has to be done after the
search-and-replace job, since we need userland-side POLL... for
unified {de,}mangle_poll(), thus the cherry-pick at the last step.
After that we will have:
- POLL{IN,OUT,...} *not* in __poll_t, so any stray instances of
->poll() still using those will be caught by sparse.
- eventpoll.c and select.c warning-free wrt __poll_t
- no more kernel-side definitions of POLL... - userland ones are
visible through the entire kernel (and used pretty much only for
mangle/demangle)

Specifically, on EAGAIN from inet_accept, the backend shouldn't return

The page given to gnttab_end_foreign_access() to free could be a
compound page so use put_page() instead of free_page() since it can
handle both compound and single pages correctly.
This bug was discovered when migrating a Xen VM with several VIFs and
CONFIG_DEBUG_VM enabled. It hits a BUG usually after fewer than 10
iterations. All netfront devices disconnect from the backend during a
suspend/resume and this will call gnttab_end_foreign_access() if a
netfront queue has an outstanding skb. The mismatch between calling
get_page() and free_page() on a compound page causes a reference
counting error which is detected when DEBUG_VM is enabled.

"This introduces a __bitwise type for POLL### bitmap, and propagates
the annotations through the tree. Most of that stuff is as simple as
'make ->poll() instances return __poll_t and do the same to local
variables used to hold the future return value'.
Some of the obvious brainos found in process are fixed (e.g. POLLIN
misspelled as POLL_IN). At that point the amount of sparse warnings is
low and most of them are for genuine bugs - e.g. ->poll() instance
deciding to return -EINVAL instead of a bitmap. I hadn't touched those
in this series - it's large enough as it is.
Another problem it has caught was eventpoll() ABI mess; select.c and
eventpoll.c assumed that corresponding POLL### and EPOLL### were
equal. That's true for some, but not all of them - EPOLL### are
arch-independent, but POLL### are not.
The last commit in this series separates userland POLL### values from
the (now arch-independent) kernel-side ones, converting between them
in the few places where they are copied to/from userland. AFAICS, this
is the least disruptive fix preserving poll(2) ABI and making epoll()
work on all architectures.
As it is, it's simply broken on sparc - try to give it EPOLLWRNORM and
it will trigger only on what would've triggered EPOLLWRBAND on other
architectures. EPOLLWRBAND and EPOLLRDHUP, OTOH, are never triggered
at all on sparc. With this patch they should work consistently on all

Since runstate times are cumulative and cleared during xen live migration
by xen hypervisor, the idea of this patch is to accumulate runstate times
to global percpu variables before live migration suspend. Once guest VM is
resumed, xen_get_runstate_snapshot_cpu() would always return the sum of new
runstate times and previously accumulated times stored in global percpu
variables.
Comment above HYPERVISOR_suspend() has been removed as it is inaccurate:
the call can return an error code (e.g., possibly -EPERM in the future).

Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.
By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.
Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.
This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.
How this work was done:
Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
- file had no licensing information it it.
- file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
- file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,
Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.
The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.
The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
- Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
- Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
lines of source
- File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
lines).
All documentation files were explicitly excluded.
The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.
- when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
COPYING file license applied.
For non */uapi/* files that summary was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 11139
and resulted in the first patch in this series.
If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH
Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930
and resulted in the second patch in this series.
- if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one
of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if
any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in
it (per prior point). Results summary:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270
GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17
LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15
GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14
((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5
LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4
LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1
and that resulted in the third patch in this series.
- when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
the concluded license(s).
- when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.
- In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).
- When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
- If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
in time.
In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.
Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.
In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.
Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
- a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
license ids and scores
- reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
- reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
SPDX license was correct
This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.
These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied
to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of
the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver)
producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne.
Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review
of a few 1000 files.
The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537
files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the
scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license
identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any
determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with
the Linux Foundation.
Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
- Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
- Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained
>5 lines of source
Results of that
was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930
and resulted in the second patch in this series.
- if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one
of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if
any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in
it (per prior point). Results summary:

and that resulted in the third patch in this series.
- when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that
became the concluded license(s).
- when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected
a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.
- In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply
(and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).
- When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
- If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
in time.
In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases,
confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights.
The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in
part, so they are related.
Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot
checks in about 15000 files.
In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect
the correct identifier.
Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial
patch version early this week with:
- a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
license ids and scores
- reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
- reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch
license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the
applied SPDX license was correct
This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.
These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

License cleanup: add SPDX license identifier to uapi header files with a license
License cleanup: add SPDX license identifier to uapi header files with no license
License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no license
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.
By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.
Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.

Send PVCALLS_ACCEPT to the backend. Allocate a new active socket. Make
sure that only one accept command is executed at any given time by
setting PVCALLS_FLAG_ACCEPT_INFLIGHT and waiting on the
inflight_accept_req waitqueue.
Convert the new struct sock_mapping pointer into an uintptr_t and use it
as id for the new socket to pass to the backend.
Check if the accept call is non-blocking: in that case after sending the
ACCEPT command to the backend store the sock_mapping pointer of the new
struct and the inflight req_id then return -EAGAIN (which will respond
only when there is something to accept). Next time accept is called,
we'll check if the ACCEPT command has been answered, if so we'll pick up
where we left off, otherwise we return -EAGAIN again.
Note that, differently from the other commands, we can use
wait_event_interruptible (instead of wait_event) in the case of accept
as we are able to track the req_id of the ACCEPT response that we are
waiting.

Send a PVCALLS_SOCKET command to the backend, use the masked
req_prod_pvt as req_id. This way, req_id is guaranteed to be between 0
and PVCALLS_NR_REQ_PER_RING. We already have a slot in the rsp array
ready for the response, and there cannot be two outstanding responses
with the same req_id.
Wait for the response by waiting on the inflight_req waitqueue and
check for the req_id field in rsp[req_id]. Use atomic accesses and
barriers to read the field. Note that the barriers are simple smp
barriers (as opposed to virt barriers) because they are for internal
frontend synchronization, not frontend<->backend communication.
Once a response is received, clear the corresponding rsp slot by setting
req_id to PVCALLS_INVALID_ID. Note that PVCALLS_INVALID_ID is invalid
only from the frontend point of view. It is not part of the PVCalls
protocol.
pvcalls_front_event_handler is in charge of copying responses from the
ring to the appropriate rsp slot. It is done by copying the body of the
response first, then by copying req_id atomically. After the copies,
wake up anybody waiting on waitqueue.
socket_lock protects accesses to the ring.
Convert the pointer to sock_mapping into an uintptr_t and use it as
id for the new socket to pass to the backend. The struct will be fully
initialized later on connect or bind.
sock->sk->sk_send_head is not used for ip sockets: reuse the field to
store a pointer to the struct sock_mapping corresponding to the socket.
This way, we can easily get the struct sock_mapping from the struct
socket.

immediately the system would try to use the memory up to mem-max

For HVM domains the current size will be reflected in Xenstore node

Additionally we have to trigger the ballooning process at once.

Pull xen fixes from Juergen Gross:
"A fix for a missing __init annotation and two cleanup patches"
* tag 'for-linus-4.14b-rc2-tag' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/xen/tip:
xen, arm64: drop dummy lookup_address()
xen: don't compile pv-specific parts if XEN_PV isn't configured
xen: x86: mark xen_find_pt_base as __init
xenbus_client.c contains some functions specific for pv guests.
Enclose them with #ifdef CONFIG_XEN_PV to avoid compiling them when
they are not needed (e.g. on ARM).
