Like we do for encoder let's make the plane->get_hw_state() return
the pipe to which the plane is currently attached. We don't currently
allow planes to move between the pipes, but perhaps one day we will.
In either case this makes the code more uniform and perhaps makes
intel_plane_mapping_ok() slightly more clear.
Note that for i965 and g4x planes A and B still have pipe select bits
but they're hardwired to pipe A and B respectively. This means we can
safely interpret those bits just like on gen2/3. This allows the
same readout code work for plane C (which can still be assigned
to eiter pipe on i965) should we ever expose it.
g4x no longer allows moving the cursor planes between the pipes,
but the pipe select bits can still be set in the register. Thus
we have to ignore those bits. OTOH i965 still allows the cursors
to move between pipes thus we have to trust the bits there.

within the bits of the modifier we need to stop doing that.
Thus we have to make .format_mod_supported() aware of the plane's

For all platforms that run haswell_crtc_enable, our spec tells us to
configure the transcoder clocks and do link training before it tells
us to set pipeconf and the other pipe/transcoder/plane registers.
Starting from Icelake, we get machine hangs if we try to touch the
pipe/transcoder registers without having the clocks configured and not
having some chicken bits set. So this patch changes
haswell_crtc_enable() to issue the calls at the appropriate order
mandated by the spec.
While setting the appropriate chicken bits would also work here, it's
better if we actually program the hardware the way it is intended to
be programmed. And the chicken bit also has some theoretical downsides
that may or may not affect us. Also, correctly programming the
hardware does not prevent us from setting the chicken bits in a later
patch in case we decide to.

During state readout we first read out the pipe src size, store
that information in the user mode h/vdisplay, but later on we overwrite
that with the actual crtc timings. That makes our read out crtc state
inconsistent with itself when the BIOS has enabled the panel fitter to
scale the pipe contents. Let's preserve the pipe src size based
information in the user mode to make things consistent again.
This fixes a problem introduced by commit a2936e3d9a ("drm/i915:
Use drm_mode_get_hv_timing() to populate plane clip rectangle")
where the inconsistent state is now leading the plane clipping code
to report a failure on account the plane dst coordinates not matching
the user mode size. Previously we did the plane clipping based on
the pipe src size instead and thus never noticed the inconsistency.

When call to skl_update_scaler is made, 0 was being
sent instead of pixel_format.
When crtc update scaler is called, we dont have the
fb to derive the pixel format. Added the function
parameter bool plane_scaler_check to account for this.
v12: Fixed failure in IGT debugfs_test.
fb is NULL in skl_update_scaler_plane
Due to this, accessing fb->format caused failure.
Patch checks fb before using.
v13: In the previous version there was a flaw.
In skl_update_scaler during plane_scaler_check
if the format was non-NV12, it would set need_scaling
to false. This could reset the previously set need_scaling
from a previous condition check. Patch fixes this.
Patch also adds minimum src height for YUV 420 formats
to 16 (as defined in BSpec) and adds for checking this
range.

DRM_IOCTL_MODE_CURSOR results in frontbuffer flush before the cursor
plane MMIOs are written to. But this flush should not be necessary for
PSR as hardware tracking triggers PSR exit when MMIOs are written. As
for FBC, the spec says "Flips or changes to plane size and panning" cause
FBC to be nuked. Use origin == ORIGIN_FLIP so that features can ignore
cursor updates in their frontbuffer_flush implementations.

i915_gem_obj_pin_to_display() calls frontbuffer_flush with origin set to
DIRTYFB. The callers however are at a vantage point to decide if hardware
frontbuffer tracking can do the flush for us. For example, legacy cursor
updates, like flips, write to MMIO registers, which then triggers PSR flush
by the hardware. Moving frontbuffer_flush out will enable us to skip a
software initiated flush by setting origin to FLIP. Thanks to Chris for the
idea.

the matrix coefficients used for the YCbCr->RGB conversion. Our
hardware can generally handle BT.601 and BT.709.
CHV pipe B sprites have a fully programmable matrix, so in theory
we could handle anything, but it doesn't seem all that useful to
expose anything beyond BT.601 and BT.709 at this time.
GLK can supposedly do BT.2020, but let's leave enabling that for
the future as well.

On GLK the plane CSC controls moved into the COLOR_CTL register.
Update the code to progam the YCbCr->RGB CSC mode correctly when
faced with an YCbCr framebuffer.
The spec is rather confusing as it calls the mode "YUV601 to RGB709".
I'm going to assume that just means it's going to use the YCbCr->RGB
matrix as specified in BT.601 and doesn't actually change the gamut.

We want to de-emphasize the link between the request (dependency,
execution and fence tracking) from GEM and so rename the struct from
drm_i915_gem_request to i915_request. That is we may implement the GEM
user interface on top of requests, but they are an abstraction for
tracking execution rather than an implementation detail of GEM. (Since
they are not tied to HW, we keep the i915 prefix as opposed to intel.)
In short, the spatch:
@@
@@
- struct drm_i915_gem_request
+ struct i915_request
A corollary to contracting the type name, we also harmonise on using
'rq' shorthand for local variables where space if of the essence and
repetition makes 'request' unwieldy. For globals and struct members,
'request' is still much preferred for its clarity.

i965 and g4x still have the pipe select bits in the plane control
registers, they're just hardcoded to select a specific pipe. However
plane C on i965 can still move between the pipes, thus we should
program the pipe select bits on i965 if we want to expose plane C
some day.
Since there is no harm in programming the bits on any plane on
i965/g4x let's just always set them. This will also make our
pre-computed register value match what the hardware register
would read, should we want to cross check the two.

G4x cursor control registers still allow us to write to the pipe select
bits even though cursors are supposed to be fixed to a specific pipe.
Bspec tells us that we should only ever write 0 to these bits. Let's
follow that recommendation. On ilk+ the bits become hardwired to 0.
Also looks like ICL repurposes these bits for some other use, so
we had better stop setting them to bogus values there.

vs. scaling checks still consider colorkey to be enabled, and
thus we don't allow plane scaling to kick in.
In case there is some other userspace out there that actually
uses this flag (unlikely as this is an i915 specific uapi)
we'll keep on accepting it.

the one described in Display WA #1175. In this case, similarly for
planes other than the cursor, with 1 or 3 pixels visible from the left
edge of the screen to the end of the plane and an odd plane X offset
used for clipping causes the same kind of underflow and display
corruption as described for WA #1175. Fix this in a similar way as that

As described in the WA on GLK and CNL planes on the right edge of the
screen that have less than 4 pixels visible from the beginning of the
plane to the edge of the screen can cause FIFO underflow and display
corruption.
On GLK/CNL I could trigger the problem only if the plane was at the same
time also aligned to the top edge of the screen (after clipping) and
there were exactly 2 pixels visible from the start of the plane to the
right edge of the screen (so couldn't trigger it with 1 or 3 pixels
visible). Nevertheless, to be sure, I also applied the WA for these cases.
I also couldn't see any problem with the cursor plane and later Art
confirmed that it's not affected, so the WA is applied only for the
other plane types.

Watching a light workload on Baytrail (running glxgears and a 1080p
decode), instead of the system remaining at low frequency, the glxgears
would regularly trigger waitboosting after which it would have to spend
a few seconds throttling back down. In this case, the waitboosting is
counter productive as the minimal wait for glxgears doesn't prevent it
from functioning correctly and delivering frames on time. In this case,
glxgears happens to almost always be waiting on the current request,
which we already expect to complete quickly (see i915_spin_request) and
so avoiding the waitboost on the active request and spinning instead
provides the best latency without overcommitting to upclocking.
However, if the system falls behind we still force the waitboost.
Similarly, we will also trigger upclocking if we detect the system is
not delivering frames on time - again using a mechanism that tries to
detect a miss and not preemptively upclock.
v2: Also skip boosting for after missed vblank if the desired request is
already active.

We have plenty of global registers and whatnot programmed without
any further locking by the modeset code. Currently non-bocking
modesets are allowed to execute in parallel which could corrupt
said registers.
To avoid the problem let's run all non-blocking modesets on an
ordered workqueue. We still put page flips etc. to system_unbound_wq
allowing page flips on one pipe to execute in parallel with page flips
or a modeset on a another pipe (assuming no known state is shared
between them, at which point they would have been added to the same
atomic commit and serialized that way).
Blocking modesets are already serialized with each other by
connection_mutex, and thus are safe. To serialize them with
non-blocking modesets we just flush the workqueue before executing
blocking modesets.

Cleaning up one small piece of the atomic conversion cruft at the time
...
Quick explanation on why the plane->fb assignment is ok to delete: The
core code takes care of the refcounting and legacy ->fb pointer
updating, but drivers are allowed to update it ahead of time. Most
legacy modeset drivers did that as part of their set_config callback
(since that's how the legacy/crtc helpers worked). In i915 we only
need that to make the fbc code happy.
v2: don't nuke the assignement of intel_crtc->config, I accidentally

the ->fb assignement shouldn't set off alarm bells.

We should make sure the pipe has fully started when we enable it from
the i830 "power well". Otherwise theoretically i830 could also hit
problems with vblank timestamps jumping around (since we skip the
wait during modeset on i830). Additionally moving planes between the
pipes etc. might not work correctly until both pipes are actually up and
running.

Previously I was under the impression that the scanline counter
reads 0 when the pipe is off. Turns out that's not correct, and
instead the scanline counter simply stops when the pipe stops, and
it retains it's last value until the pipe starts up again, at which
point the scanline counter jumps to vblank start.
These jumps can cause the timestamp to jump backwards by one frame.
Since we use the timestamps to guesstimage also the frame counter
value on gen2, that would cause the frame counter to also jump
backwards, which leads to a massice difference from the previous value.
The end result is that flips/vblank events don't appear to complete as
they're stuck waiting for the frame counter to catch up to that massive
difference.
Fix the problem properly by actually making sure the scanline counter
has started to move before we assume that it's safe to enable vblank
processing.

i830_disable_pipe() gets called from the power well code, and thus
we're already holding the power domain mutex. That means we can't
call plane->get_hw_state() as it will also try to grab the
same mutex and will thus deadlock.
Replace the assert_plane() calls (which calls ->get_hw_state()) with
just raw register reads in i830_disable_pipe(). As a bonus we can
now get a warning if plane C is enabled even though we don't even
expose it as a drm plane.

Instead, move the output polling to the last step of registration, after

Additonally we change the plane<->pipe mapping sanitation to work by

drm_plane_helper_check_state() is supposed to do things the atomic way,
so it should not be inspecting crtc->enabled. Rather we should be

We have a slight complication due to drm_plane_helper_check_update()

we'll have to pass the crtc_state in manally and construct a fake

We no longer use intel_crtc->wm.active for watermarks any more,
which was incorrect. But this uncovered a bug in sanitize_watermarks(),
which meant that we wrote the correct watermarks, but the next
update would still use the wrong hw watermarks for calculating.
This caused all further updates to fail with -EINVAL and the
log would reveal an error like the one below:

Despite its name intel_init_clock_gating applies both display clock gating
workarounds; GT mmio workarounds and the occasional GT power context
workaround. Worse, sometimes it includes a context register workaround
which we need to apply before we record the default HW state for all

Apparently setting up a bunch of GT registers before we've properly
initialized the rest of the GT hardware leads to these setting being
lost. So looks like I broke HSW with commit b7048ea12f ("drm/i915:
Do .init_clock_gating() earlier to avoid it clobbering watermarks")
by doing init_clock_gating() too early. This should actually affect
other platforms as well, but apparently not to such a great degree.
What I was ultimately after in that commit was to move the
ilk_init_lp_watermarks() call earlier. So let's undo the damage and
move init_clock_gating() back to where it was, and call
ilk_init_lp_watermarks() just before the watermark state readout.
This highlights how fragile and messed up our init order really is.
I wonder why we even initialize the display before gem. The opposite
order would make much more sense to me...

be done before all planes might get disabled.

Currently the DDI encoder->type will change at runtime depending on
what kind of hotplugs we've processed. That's quite bad since we can't
really trust that that current value of encoder->type actually matches
the type of signal we're trying to drive through it.
Let's eliminate that problem by declaring that non-eDP DDI port will
always have the encoder type as INTEL_OUTPUT_DDI. This means the code
can no longer try to distinguish DP vs. HDMI based on encoder->type.
We'll leave eDP as INTEL_OUTPUT_EDP, since it'll never change and
there's a bunch of code that relies on that value to identify eDP
encoders.
We'll introduce a new encoder .compute_output_type() hook. This allows
us to compute the full output_types before any encoder .compute_config()
hooks get called, thus those hooks can rely on output_types being
correct, which is useful for cloning on oldr platforms. For now we'll
just look at the connector type and pick the correct mode based on that.
In the future the new hook could be used to implement dynamic switching
between LS and PCON modes for LSPCON.
v2: Fix BXT/GLK PPS explosion with DSI/MST encoders
v3: Avoid the PPS warn on pure HDMI/DVI DDI encoders by checking dp.output_reg

Rather than having the caller of .get_config() set output_types based on
encoder->type, let's just have .get_config() itself populate
output_types. This way we are isolated from encoder->type, which won't
be useable for this purpose anyway soon (at least for DDI encoders).
