"Clang LTO x86 enablement.
Full disclosure: while this has _not_ been in linux-next (since it
initially looked like the objtool dependencies weren't going to make
v5.12), it has been under daily build and runtime testing by Sami for
quite some time. These x86 portions have been discussed on lkml, with

The bulk of the changes are to get objtool working happily. The rest
of the x86 enablement is very small.

tracing: move function tracer options to Kconfig
The kernel thread executing test can run on any cpu, which might be
different cpu latency tracer is running on, as a result, the
big latency caused by preemptirq delay test can't be detected.
Therefore, the argument cpu_affinity is added to be passed to test,
ensure it's running on the same cpu with latency tracer.
e.g.
cyclictest -p 90 -m -c 0 -i 1000 -a 3
modprobe preemptirq_delay_test test_mode=preempt delay=500 \

Enable the notrace function check on the architecture which doesn't
support kprobes on ftrace but support dynamic ftrace. This notrace
function check is not only for the kprobes on ftrace but also
sw-breakpoint based kprobes.
Thus there is no reason to limit this check for the arch which
supports kprobes on ftrace.
This also changes the dependency of Kconfig. Because kprobe event
uses the function tracer's address list for identifying notrace
function, if the CONFIG_DYNAMIC_FTRACE=n, it can not check whether
the target function is notrace or not.

The major update to this release is that there's a new arch config option called:
CONFIG_HAVE_DYNAMIC_FTRACE_WITH_ARGS. Currently, only x86_64 enables it.
All the ftrace callbacks now take a struct ftrace_regs instead of a struct
pt_regs. If the architecture has HAVE_DYNAMIC_FTRACE_WITH_ARGS enabled, then
the ftrace_regs will have enough information to read the arguments of the
function being traced, as well as access to the stack pointer. This way, if
a user (like live kernel patching) only cares about the arguments, then it
can avoid using the heavier weight "regs" callback, that puts in enough
information in the struct ftrace_regs to simulate a breakpoint exception
(needed for kprobes).
New config option that audits the timestamps of the ftrace ring buffer at
most every event recorded. The "check_buffer()" calls will conflict with
mainline, because I purposely added the check without including the fix that
it caught, which is in mainline. Running a kernel built from the commit of
the added check will trigger it.
Ftrace recursion protection has been cleaned up to move the protection to
the callback itself (this saves on an extra function call for those
callbacks).
Perf now handles its own RCU protection and does not depend on ftrace to do
it for it (saving on that extra function call).
New debug option to add "recursed_functions" file to tracefs that lists all
the places that triggered the recursion protection of the function tracer.
This will show where things need to be fixed as recursion slows down the
function tracer.
The eval enum mapping updates done at boot up are now offloaded to a work
queue, as it caused a noticeable pause on slow embedded boards.
Various clean ups and last minute fixes.

This cleans up two ancient timer features that were never completed in
the past, CONFIG_GENERIC_CLOCKEVENTS and CONFIG_ARCH_USES_GETTIMEOFFSET.
There was only one user left for the ARCH_USES_GETTIMEOFFSET variant
of clocksource implementations, the ARM EBSA110 platform. Rather than
changing to use modern timekeeping, we remove the platform entirely as
Russell no longer uses his machine and nobody else seems to have one
any more.
The conditional code for using arch_gettimeoffset() is removed as
a result.
For CONFIG_GENERIC_CLOCKEVENTS, there are still a couple of platforms
not using clockevent drivers: parisc, ia64, most of m68k, and one
Arm platform. These all do timer ticks slighly differently, and this
gets cleaned up to the point they at least all call the same helper
function. Instead of most platforms using 'select GENERIC_CLOCKEVENTS'
in Kconfig, the polarity is now reversed, with the few remaining ones
selecting LEGACY_TIMER_TICK instead.

While debugging a situation where a delta for an event was calucalted wrong,
I realize there was nothing making sure that the delta of events are
correct. If a single event has an incorrect delta, then all events after it
will also have one. If the discrepency gets large enough, it could cause
the time stamps to go backwards when crossing sub buffers, that record a
full 64 bit time stamp, and the new deltas are added to that.
Add a way to validate the events at most events and when crossing a buffer
page. This will help make sure that the deltas are always correct. This test
will detect if they are ever corrupted.
The test adds a high overhead to the ring buffer recording, as it does the
audit for almost every event, and should only be used for testing the ring
buffer.
This will catch the bug that is fixed by commit 55ea4cf403 ("ring-buffer:
Update write stamp with the correct ts"), which is not applied when this
commit is applied.

Currently, the only way to get access to the registers of a function via a
ftrace callback is to set the "FL_SAVE_REGS" bit in the ftrace_ops. But as this
saves all regs as if a breakpoint were to trigger (for use with kprobes), it
is expensive.
The regs are already saved on the stack for the default ftrace callbacks, as
that is required otherwise a function being traced will get the wrong
arguments and possibly crash. And on x86, the arguments are already stored
where they would be on a pt_regs structure to use that code for both the
regs version of a callback, it makes sense to pass that information always
to all functions.
If an architecture does this (as x86_64 now does), it is to set
HAVE_DYNAMIC_FTRACE_WITH_ARGS, and this will let the generic code that it
could have access to arguments without having to set the flags.
This also includes having the stack pointer being saved, which could be used
for accessing arguments on the stack, as well as having the function graph
tracer not require its own trampoline!

ftrace: show debugging information when panic_on_warn set
The PREEMPTIRQ_EVENTS option is unused after commit c3bc8fd637 ("tracing:
Centralize preemptirq tracepoints and unify their usage"). Remove it.
Note that this option is hazardous as it stands. It enables TRACE_IRQFLAGS
event on non-preempt configurations without the irqsoff tracer enabled.
TRACE_IRQFLAGS as it stands incurs significant overhead on each IRQ
entry/exit. This is because trace_hardirqs_[on|off] does all the per-cpu
manipulations and NMI checks even if tracing is completely disabled for
some insane reason. For example, netperf running UDP_STREAM on localhost
incurs a 4-6% performance penalty without any tracing if IRQFLAGS is
set. It can be put behind a static brach but even the function entry/exit
costs a little bit.

With the addition of the in-kernel synthetic event API, synthetic
events are no longer specifically tied to the histogram triggers.
The synthetic event code is also making trace_event_hist.c very
bloated, so for those reasons, move it to a separate file,
trace_events_synth.c, along with a new trace_synth.h header file.
Because synthetic events are now independent from hist triggers, add a
new CONFIG_SYNTH_EVENTS config option, and have CONFIG_HIST_TRIGGERS
select it, and have CONFIG_SYNTH_EVENT_GEN_TEST depend on it.

Add a new "hist_debug" file for each trace event, which when read will
dump out a bunch of internal details about the hist triggers defined
on that event.
This is normally off but can be enabled by saying 'y' to the new
CONFIG_HIST_TRIGGERS_DEBUG config option.
This is in support of the new Documentation file describing histogram
internals, Documentation/trace/histogram-design.rst, which was
requested by developers trying to understand the internals when
extending or making use of the hist triggers for higher-level tools.
The histogram-design.rst documentation refers to the hist_debug files
and demonstrates their use with output in the test examples.

We have some rather random rules about when we accept the
"maybe-initialized" warnings, and when we don't.
For example, we consider it unreliable for gcc versions < 4.9, but also
if -O3 is enabled, or if optimizing for size. And then various kernel
config options disabled it, because they know that they trigger that
warning by confusing gcc sufficiently (ie PROFILE_ALL_BRANCHES).
And now gcc-10 seems to be introducing a lot of those warnings too, so
it falls under the same heading as 4.9 did.
At the same time, we have a very straightforward way to _enable_ that
warning when wanted: use "W=2" to enable more warnings.
So stop playing these ad-hoc games, and just disable that warning by
default, with the known and straight-forward "if you want to work on the
extra compiler warnings, use W=123".
Would it be great to have code that is always so obvious that it never
confuses the compiler whether a variable is used initialized or not?
Yes, it would. In a perfect world, the compilers would be smarter, and
our source code would be simpler.
That's currently not the world we live in, though.

Setup tracing options via extra boot config in addition to kernel
command line.
This adds following commands support. These are applied to
the global trace instance.
- ftrace.options = OPT1[,OPT2...]
Enable given ftrace options.
- ftrace.trace_clock = CLOCK
Set given CLOCK to ftrace's trace_clock.
- ftrace.buffer_size = SIZE
Configure ftrace buffer size to SIZE. You can use "KB" or "MB"
for that SIZE.
- ftrace.events = EVENT[, EVENT2...]
Enable given events on boot. You can use a wild card in EVENT.
- ftrace.tracer = TRACER
Set TRACER to current tracer on boot. (e.g. function)
Note that this is NOT replacing the kernel parameters, because
this boot config based setting is later than that. If you want to
trace earlier boot events, you still need kernel parameters.

tracing: Do not create directories if lockdown is in affect
tracing: Introduce trace event injection
tracing: Fix __print_hex_dump scope
We have been trying to use rasdaemon to monitor hardware errors like
correctable memory errors. rasdaemon uses trace events to monitor
various hardware errors. In order to test it, we have to inject some
hardware errors, unfortunately not all of them provide error
injections. MCE does provide a way to inject MCE errors, but errors
like PCI error and devlink error don't, it is not easy to add error
injection to each of them. Instead, it is relatively easier to just
allow users to inject trace events in a generic way so that all trace
events can be injected.
This patch introduces trace event injection, where a new 'inject' is
added to each tracepoint directory. Users could write into this file
with key=value pairs to specify the value of each fields of the trace
event, all unspecified fields are set to zero values by default.
For example, for the net/net_dev_queue tracepoint, we can inject:
INJECT=/sys/kernel/debug/tracing/events/net/net_dev_queue/inject
echo "" > $INJECT
echo "name='test'" > $INJECT
echo "name='test' len=1024" > $INJECT

- PERAMAENT flag to ftrace_ops when attaching a callback to a function
As /proc/sys/kernel/ftrace_enabled when set to zero will disable all
attached callbacks in ftrace, this has a detrimental impact on live
kernel tracing, as it disables all that it patched. If a ftrace_ops
is registered to ftrace with the PERMANENT flag set, it will prevent
ftrace_enabled from being disabled, and if ftrace_enabled is already
disabled, it will prevent a ftrace_ops with PREMANENT flag set from
being registered.
- New register_ftrace_direct(). As eBPF would like to register its own
trampolines to be called by the ftrace nop locations directly,
without going through the ftrace trampoline, this function has been
added. This allows for eBPF trampolines to live along side of
ftrace, perf, kprobe and live patching. It also utilizes the ftrace
enabled_functions file that keeps track of functions that have been
modified in the kernel, to allow for security auditing.
- Allow for kernel internal use of ftrace instances. Subsystems in
the kernel can now create and destroy their own tracing instances
which allows them to have their own tracing buffer, and be able
to record events without worrying about other users from writing over
their data.
- New seq_buf_hex_dump() that lets users use the hex_dump() in their
seq_buf usage.
- Notifications now added to tracing_max_latency to allow user space
to know when a new max latency is hit by one of the latency tracers.
- Wider spread use of generic compare operations for use of bsearch and
friends.
- More synthetic event fields may be defined (32 up from 16)
- Use of xarray for architectures with sparse system calls, for the
system call trace events.
This along with small clean ups and fixes.

This burst feature enables the user to generate a burst of
preempt/irqsoff latencies. This makes it possible to test whether we
are able to detect latencies that systematically occur very close to
each other.
The maximum burst size is 10. We also create 10 identical test
functions, so that we get 10 different backtraces; this is useful
when we want to test whether we can detect all the latencies in a
burst. Otherwise, there would be no easy way of differentiating
between which latency in a burst was captured by the tracer.
In addition, there is a sysfs trigger, so that it's not necessary to
reload the module to repeat the test. The trigger will appear as
/sys/kernel/preemptirq_delay_test/trigger in sysfs.

Add the start of the functionality to allow other trampolines to use the
ftrace mcount/fentry/nop location. This adds two new functions:
register_ftrace_direct() and unregister_ftrace_direct()
Both take two parameters: the first is the instruction address of where the
mcount/fentry/nop exists, and the second is the trampoline to have that
location called.
This will handle cases where ftrace is already used on that same location,
and will make it still work, where the registered direct called trampoline
will get called after all the registered ftrace callers are handled.
Currently, it will not allow for IP_MODIFY functions to be called at the
same locations, which include some kprobes and live kernel patching.
At this point, no architecture supports this. This is only the start of
implementing the framework.

Pull tracing updates from Steven Rostedt:
"The main changes in this release include:
- Add user space specific memory reading for kprobes
- Allow kprobes to be executed earlier in boot
The rest are mostly just various clean ups and small fixes"

ftrace: Enable trampoline when rec count returns back to one
tracing/kprobe: Do not run kprobe boot tests if kprobe_event is on cmdline
tracing: Make a separate config for trace event self tests
...
The trace event self tests enable loop through *all* events, enables each
one, one at a time, runs some code to trigger various events (not
necessarily the same events), and checks if anything went wrong. The issue
is that trace events are usually the least likely start up test to cause a
problem, but they take the longest to run (because there are so many
events). When one of the other tests trigger a bug, the trace event start up
tests causes the bisect to take much longer, because it takes 10s of seconds
to get through the trace event tests.
By making them a separate config (even though they are enabled by default if
start up tests are set), it is possible to turn them off and still run the
other tracing start up tests much quicker.

gpio tracing was made configurable in 4.4-rc1 (commit ddd70280bf
("tracing: gpio: Add Kconfig option for enabling/disabling trace
events")). Since then it is the only event type that can be compiled
conditionally. Given that there is only little overhead I don't
understand the reasoning and I was annoyed more than once that gpio
events were not available without recompiling.
So drop the Kconfig symbol and make gpio events available
unconditionally.

Since -Wmaybe-uninitialized was introduced by GCC 4.7, we have patched
various false positives:
- commit e74fc973b6 ("Turn off -Wmaybe-uninitialized when building
with -Os") turned off this option for -Os.
- commit 815eb71e71 ("Kbuild: disable 'maybe-uninitialized' warning
for CONFIG_PROFILE_ALL_BRANCHES") turned off this option for
CONFIG_PROFILE_ALL_BRANCHES
- commit a76bcf557e ("Kbuild: enable -Wmaybe-uninitialized warning
for "make W=1"") turned off this option for GCC < 4.9
Arnd provided more explanation in https://lkml.org/lkml/2017/3/14/903
I think this looks better by shifting the logic from Makefile to Kconfig.

Use dyn_event framework for synthetic events. This shows
synthetic events on "tracing/dynamic_events" file in addition
to tracing/synthetic_events interface.
User can also define new events via tracing/dynamic_events
with "s:" prefix. So, the new syntax is below;
s:[synthetic/]EVENT_NAME TYPE ARG; [TYPE ARG;]...
To remove events via tracing/dynamic_events, you can use
"-:" prefix as same as other events.
