In qmi_handle_init(), a buffer is allocated for to hold messages
received through the handle's socket. Any "normal" messages
(expected by the caller) will have a header prepended, so the
buffer size is adjusted to accomodate that.
The buffer must also be of sufficient size to receive control
messages, so the size is increased if necessary to ensure these
will fit.
Unfortunately the calculation is done wrong, making it possible
for the calculated buffer size to be too small to hold a "normal"
message. Specifically, if:
recv_buf_size > sizeof(struct qrtr_ctrl_pkt) - sizeof(struct qmi_header)
AND
recv_buf_size < sizeof(struct qrtr_ctrl_pkt)
the current logic will use sizeof(struct qrtr_ctrl_pkt) as the
receive buffer size, which is not enough to hold the maximum
"normal" message plus its header. Currently this problem occurs
for (13 < recv_buf_size < 20).
This patch corrects this.

it waits to do so until it has mistakenly treated the last entry in

What phdr_to_last_uncached_entry() returns is the address of the
start of the free space following all allocated uncached entries.
It really doesn't refer to an actual (initialized) private entry
structure. Similarly phdr_to_last_cached_entry() returns the
address of the end of free space, preceding the last allocated cache
entry. Change both functions' return type to be pointer to void
to reflect this.
Meanwhile, phdr_to_first_cached_entry() really *does* point to a
private entry structure, so change its return type to reflect
this fact.

All these functions either return a negative error indicator,
or store length of sockaddr into "int *socklen" parameter
and return zero on success.
"int *socklen" parameter is awkward. For example, if caller does not
care, it still needs to provide on-stack storage for the value
it does not need.
None of the many FOO_getname() functions of various protocols
ever used old value of *socklen. They always just overwrite it.
This change drops this parameter, and makes all these functions, on success,
return length of sockaddr. It's always >= 0 and can be differentiated
from an error.
Tests in callers are changed from "if (err)" to "if (err < 0)", where needed.
rpc_sockname() lost "int buflen" parameter, since its only use was
to be passed to kernel_getsockname() as &buflen and subsequently
not used in any way.
Userspace API is not changed.

Fix child-node lookup during probe, which ended up searching the whole
device tree depth-first starting at the parent rather than just matching
on its children.
Note that the original premature free of the parent node has already
been fixed separately.
Also note that this pattern of looking up the first child node with a
given property is rare enough that a generic helper is probably not
warranted.

Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.
By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.
Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.
This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.
How this work was done:
Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
- file had no licensing information it it.
- file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
- file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,
Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.
The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.
The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
- Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
- Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
lines of source
- File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
lines).
All documentation files were explicitly excluded.
The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.
- when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
COPYING file license applied.
For non */uapi/* files that summary was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 11139
and resulted in the first patch in this series.
If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH
Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930
and resulted in the second patch in this series.
- if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one
of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if
any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in
it (per prior point). Results summary:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270
GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17
LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15
GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14
((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5
LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4
LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1
and that resulted in the third patch in this series.
- when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
the concluded license(s).
- when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.
- In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).
- When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
- If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
in time.
In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.
Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.
In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.
Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
- a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
license ids and scores
- reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
- reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
SPDX license was correct
This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.
These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

The Qualcomm remote file system protocol is used by certain remoteprocs,
in particular the modem, to read and write persistent storage in
platforms where only the application CPU has physical storage access.
The protocol is based on a set of QMI-encoded control-messages and a
shared memory buffer for exchaning the data. This driver implements the
latter, providing the user space service access to the carved out chunk

Multi-channel clients split between several drivers need a way to close
individual channels, as these drivers might be removed individually.
With this in place the responsibility of closing additionally opened
channels to the client as well only concerning smd about the primary

With this approach we will only trigger removal of SMD devices based on
the state of the primary channel, however we get in sync with how rpmsg

SMEM is a software construct built on top of a DDR reserved region
and sometimes a device memory region called RPM message ram. Having
the RPM message ram in the smem DT node's reg property leads to the
smem node being located in different places depending on if the
message ram is being used or not. Let's add a qcom specific
property, qcom,rpm-msg-ram, and point to the device memory from
the SMEM node via a phandle. As SMEM is a software construct, it
really needs to reside at the root of the DT regardless of whether
it's using the message ram or not.

The rx and tx channel info are laid out in memory next to each
other, and there are two types of channel info structures, byte
based and word based. We have 4 pointers to these info
structures, when we really only need two to point to the
different types of structures. Encapsulate the byte based and
word based tx/rx structures in a "channel pair" structure that
describes the layout of memory and reduces the number of pointers
in the smd channel structure by two.

Instead of littering the code with casts every time this function

location of the smem item. This frees the caller from having to
cast the pointer.

SPM is a hardware block that controls the peripheral logic surrounding
the application cores (cpu/l$). When the core executes WFI instruction,
the SPM takes over the putting the core in low power state as
configured. The wake up for the SPM is an interrupt at the GIC, which
then completes the rest of low power mode sequence and brings the core
out of low power mode.
The SPM has a set of control registers that configure the SPMs
individually based on the type of the core and the runtime conditions.
SPM is a finite state machine block to which a sequence is provided and
it interprets the bytes and executes them in sequence. Each low power
mode that the core can enter into is provided to the SPM as a sequence.
Configure the SPM to set the core (cpu or L2) into its low power mode,
the index of the first command in the sequence is set in the SPM_CTL
register. When the core executes ARM wfi instruction, it triggers the
SPM state machine to start executing from that index. The SPM state
machine waits until the interrupt occurs and starts executing the rest
of the sequence until it hits the end of the sequence. The end of the
sequence jumps the core out of its low power mode.
Add support for an idle driver to set up the SPM to place the core in
Standby or Standalone power collapse mode when the core is idle.

since commit 31964ffebb ("tty: serial: msm: Remove direct access to GSBI")'
serial hangs if earlyprintk are enabled.
This hang is noticed only when the GSBI driver is probed and all the
earlyprintks before gsbi probe are seen on the console.
The reason why it hangs is because GSBI driver disables hclk in its
probe function without realizing that the serial IP might be in use by
a bootconsole. As gsbi driver disables the clock in probe the
bootconsole locks up.
Turning off hclk's could be dangerous if there are system components
like earlyprintk using the hclk.
This patch fixes the issue by delegating the clock management to
probe and remove functions in gsbi rather than disabling the clock in probe.
