A display resolution is only supported if it meets all the restrictions
below for Maximum Pipe Pixel Rate.
The display resolution must fit within the maximum pixel rate output
from the pipe. Make sure that the display pipe is able to feed pixels at
a rate required to support the desired resolution.
For each enabled plane on the pipe {
If plane scaling enabled {
Horizontal down scale amount = Maximum[1, plane horizontal size /
scaler horizontal window size]
Vertical down scale amount = Maximum[1, plane vertical size /
scaler vertical window size]
Plane down scale amount = Horizontal down scale amount *
Vertical down scale amount
Plane Ratio = 1 / Plane down scale amount
}
Else {
Plane Ratio = 1
}
If plane source pixel format is 64 bits per pixel {
Plane Ratio = Plane Ratio * 8/9
}
}
Pipe Ratio = Minimum Plane Ratio of all enabled planes on the pipe
If pipe scaling is enabled {
Horizontal down scale amount = Maximum[1, pipe horizontal source size /
scaler horizontal window size]
Vertical down scale amount = Maximum[1, pipe vertical source size /
scaler vertical window size]
Note: The progressive fetch - interlace display mode is equivalent to a
2.0 vertical down scale
Pipe down scale amount = Horizontal down scale amount *
Vertical down scale amount
Pipe Ratio = Pipe Ratio / Pipe down scale amount
}
Pipe maximum pixel rate = CDCLK frequency * Pipe Ratio
In this patch our calculation is based on pipe downscale amount
(plane max downscale amount * pipe downscale amount) instead of Pipe
Ratio. So,
max supported crtc clock with given scaling = CDCLK / pipe downscale.
Flip will fail if,
current crtc clock > max supported crct clock with given scaling.

SDVO was the last connector that's still using the legacy paths
for properties, and this is with a reason!
This connector implements a lot of properties dynamically,
and some of them shared with the digital connector state,
so sdvo_connector_state subclasses intel_digital_connector_state.
set_property had a lot of validation, but this is handled in the
drm core, so most of the validation can die off. The properties
are written right before enabling the connector, since there is no
good way to update the properties without crtc.

Some atomic properties are common between the various kinds of
connectors, for example a lot of them use panel fitting mode.
It makes sense to put a lot of it in a common place, so each
connector can use it while they're being converted.
Implement the properties required for the connectors:
- scaling mode property
- force audio property
- broadcast rgb
- aspect ratio
While at it, make clear that intel_digital_connector_atomic_get_property

are converted to atomic.

Changes since v2:

Implement proper two stage watermark programming for g4x. As with
other pre-SKL platforms, the watermark registers aren't double
buffered on g4x. Hence we must sequence the watermark update
carefully around plane updates.
The code is quite heavily modelled on the VLV/CHV code, with some
fairly significant differences due to the different hardware
architecture:
* g4x doesn't use inverted watermark values
* CxSR actually affects the watermarks since it controls memory self
refresh in addition to the max FIFO mode
* A further HPLL SR mode is possible with higher memory wakeup
latency
* g4x has FBC2 and so it also has FBC watermarks
* max FIFO mode for primary plane only (cursor is allowed, sprite is not)
* g4x has no manual FIFO repartitioning
* some TLB miss related workarounds are needed for the watermarks
Actually the hardware is quite similar to ILK+ in many ways. The
most visible differences are in the actual watermakr register
layout. ILK revamped that part quite heavily whereas g4x is still
using the layout inherited from earlier platforms.
Note that we didn't previously enable the HPLL SR on g4x. So in order
to not introduce too many functional changes in this patch I've not
actually enabled it here either, even though the code is now fully
ready for it. We'll enable it separately later on.

If link training at a link rate optimal for a particular
mode fails during modeset's atomic commit phase, then we
let the modeset complete and then retry. We save the link rate
value at which link training failed, update the link status property
to "BAD" and use a lower link rate to prune the modes. It will redo
the modeset on the current mode at lower link rate or if the current
mode gets pruned due to lower link constraints then, it will send a
hotplug uevent for userspace to handle it.
This is also required to pass DP CTS tests 4.3.1.3, 4.3.1.4,

"drm/i915: Implement Link Rate fallback on Link training failure")
which got reverted in this commit id (afc1ebf456 Revert
"drm/i915: Implement Link Rate fallback on Link training failure")
due to CI failures.
After investigating the CI failures it was found that these
were essentially the failures which were always there but hidden because
they used to be DRM_DEBUG_KMS messages for link failures so never got
caught by CI. But now this patch actually throws DRM_ERROR if the link
training fails at RBR and 1 lane. So it caught these link train failures.
There were two failures:
1. On SKL 6700k this was because the machine in CI lab is a SKL desktop
without eDP on Port A. But our VBT initialization code in the driver writes
VBT defaults in a way that it always sets DP flag on Port A and this does
not get cleared after parsing the VBT outputs. This has been fixed in
commit id (bb1d132935 "drm/i915/vbt: split out defaults that are set
when there is no VBT) and (665788572c "drm/i915/vbt: don't propagate
errors from intel_bios_init())
2. On ILK-650 desktop - This was happening because of a bad monitor desktop
combination. I switched the monitor in the CI lab and that helped get rid
of the link failures on ILK system.

mode_valid() called from drm_helper_probe_single_connector_modes()
may need to look at connector->state because what a valid mode is may
depend on connector properties being set. For example some HDMI modes
might be rejected when a connector property forces the connector
into DVI mode.
Some implementations of detect() already lock all state,
so we have to pass an acquire_ctx to them to prevent a deadlock.
This means changing the function signature of detect() slightly,
and passing the acquire_ctx for locking multiple crtc's.
For the callbacks, it will always be non-zero. To allow callers

There is some conflation related to sink rates, making this change more
complicated than it would otherwise have to be. There are three changes
here that are rather difficult to split up:
1) Use the intel_dp->sink_rates array for all DP, not just eDP 1.4. We
initialize it from DPCD on eDP 1.4 like before, but generate it based
on DP_MAX_LINK_RATE on others. This reduces code complexity when we
need to use the sink rates; they are all always in the sink_rates
array.
2) Update the sink rate array whenever we read DPCD, and use the
information from there. This increases code readability when we need
the sink rates.
3) Disentangle fallback rate limiting from sink rates. In the code, the
max rate is a dynamic property of the *link*, not of the *sink*. Do
the limiting after intersecting the source and sink rates, which are
static properties of the devices.
This paves the way for follow-up refactoring that I've refrained from
doing here to keep this change as simple as it possibly can.

First slice of drm-misc-next for 4.12:
Core/subsystem-wide:
- link status core patch from Manasi, for signalling link train fail
to userspace. I also had the i915 patch in here, but that had a
small buglet in our CI, so reverted.
- more debugfs_remove removal from Noralf, almost there now (Noralf
said he'll try to follow up with the stragglers).
- drm todo moved into kerneldoc, for better visibility (see
Documentation/gpu/todo.rst), lots of starter tasks in there.
- devm_ of helpers + use it in sti (from Ben Gaignard, acked by Rob
Herring)
- extended framebuffer fbdev support (for fbdev flipping), and vblank
wait ioctl fbdev support (Maxime Ripard)
- misc small things all over, as usual
- add vblank callbacks to drm_crtc_funcs, plus make lots of good use
of this to simplify drivers (Shawn Guo)
- new atomic iterator macros to unconfuse old vs. new state
Small drivers:
- vc4 improvements from Eric
- vc4 kerneldocs (Eric)!
- tons of improvements for dw-mipi-dsi in rockchip from John Keeping
and Chris Zhong.
- MAINTAINERS entries for drivers managed in drm-misc. It's not yet
official, still an experiment, but definitely not complete fail and
better to avoid confusion. We kinda screwed that up with drm-misc a
bit when we started committers last year.
- qxl atomic conversion (Gabriel Krisman)
- bunch of virtual driver polish (qxl, virgl, ...)
- misc tiny patches all over
This is the first time we've done the same merge-window blackout for
drm-misc as we've done for drm-intel for ages, hence why we have a
_lot_ of stuff queued already. But it's still only half of drm-intel
(room to grow!), and the drivers in drm-misc experiment seems to work
at least insofar as that you also get lots of driver updates here
alredy.

Remove crtc->wm.cxsr_allowed and just rely on crtc_state->disable_cxsr
instead. This was used only by vlv/chv to indicate whether to enable
cxsr in the wm computation. That doesn't really work anymore, and as far
as the optimal watermarks go we'll just consider the number of planes
and the current pipe, and for the intermediate watermarks we'll also
start to consider disable_cxsr which is set appropriately when planes
are being enabled/disabled.
We'll also flip over the crtc_state->wm.need_postvbl_update setup so
that it's the wm code that will set it. Previously the generic code set
it up, and then the wm code cleared it again if it thought it's not
needed after all.

Since the watermark registers arent double buffered on VLV/CHV, we'll
need to play around with intermediate watermarks same was as we do on
ILK-BDW.
The watermark registers on VLV/CHV contain inverted values, so to find
the intermediate watermark value we just take the minimum of the
active and optimal values. This also means that, unlike ILK-BDW,
there's no chance that we'd fail to find a working intermediate
watermarks. As long as both the active and optimal watermarks are valid
the intermediate watermarks will come out valid as well.

change we can skip the merge+invert step between all the planes on

Start computing the vlv/chv watermarks the atomic way, from the
.compute_pipe_wm() hook. We'll recompute the actual watermarks
for only planes that are part of the state, the other planes will
keep their watermark from the last time it was computed.
And the actual watermark programming will happen from the
.initial_watermarks() hook. For now we'll just compute the
optimal watermarks, and we'll hook up the intermediate
watermarks properly later.
The DSPARB registers responsible for the FIFO paritioning are
double buffered, so they will be programming from

Let's compute the watermarks first and the FIFO size second. This way we
can make sure the FIFO split is the most accommodating to the watermarks.
Previously we could have potentially computed a FIFO split that couldn't
accommodate the PM2 watermarks simply due to a bad split even if the
total FIFO size would have been sufficient.
It'll also allow us to avoid recomputing the wms for all planes whenever
the FIFO split would change. Thus we don't have to add any extra planes
to the state when the FIFO needs to be repartitioned.
To help with this we'll keep around copies of the non-inverted
watermarks in the crtc state. For now that doesn't help too much, but
once we start to do the watermark computation only for the planes
that change we'll need the non-inverted values around for the other
planes.

"This is the main drm pull request for v4.11.
Nothing too major, the tinydrm and mmu-less support should make

Intel grew displayport MST audio support which is hopefully useful to

Linux 4.10-rc8
Backmerge Linus rc8 to fix some conflicts, but also
to avoid pulling it in via a fixes pull from someone.
Verify that the refcount of all power wells match their HW enabled
state at the end of modeset HW state readout.
Also add documentation on how the reference count for each power well is
supposed to be acquired during initialization and HW state readout.

We do not need the BKL struct_mutex in order to allocate a GEM object,
nor to create the framebuffer, so resist the temptation to take the BKL
willy nilly. As this changes the locking contract around internal API
calls, the patch is a little larger than a plain removal of a pair of
mutex_lock/unlock.

The max link parameters should be set/reset only on HPD or
connected boot case or on system resume.
Add a flag reset_link_params to intel_dp to decide when
to reset the max link parameters. This prevents the parameters
from getting reset/overwritten through all other
connector->funcs->detect() calls. This is important when link
training fails and the max link params are modified to the
lower fallback values.

With the cdclk state, all the .modeset_commit_cdclk() hooks are
now pointless wrappers. Let's replace them with just a .set_cdclk()
function pointer. However let's wrap that in a small helper that
does the state comparison and prints a unified debug message across

The current dev_cdclk vs. cdclk vs. atomic_cdclk_freq is quite a mess.
So here I'm introducing the "actual" and "logical" naming for our
cdclk state. "actual" is what we'll bash into the hardware and "logical"
is what everyone should use for state computaion/checking and whatnot.
We'll track both using the intel_cdclk_state as both will need other
differing parameters than just the actual cdclk frequency.
While doing that we can at the same time unify the appearance of the
.modeset_calc_cdclk() implementations a little bit.

Introduce intel_cdclk state which for now will track the cdclk
frequency, the vco frequency and the reference frequency (not sure we
want the last one, but I put it there anyway). We'll also make the
.get_cdclk() function fill out this state structure rather than
just returning the current cdclk frequency.
One immediate benefit is that calling .get_cdclk() will no longer
clobber state stored under dev_priv unless ex[plicitly told to do
so. Previously it clobbered the vco and reference clocks stored
there on some platforms.

The intel_dp_autotest_video_pattern() function gets invoked through the
compliance test handler on a HPD short pulse if the test type is
set to DP_TEST_VIDEO_PATTERN. This performs the DPCD registers
reads to read the requested test pattern, video pattern resolution,
frame rate and bits per color value. The results of this analysis
are handed off to userspace so that the userspace app can set the
video pattern mode appropriately for the test result/response.
When the test is requested with specific BPC value, we read the BPC
value from the DPCD register. If this BPC value in intel_dp structure
has a non-zero value and we're on a display port connector, then we use
the value to calculate the bpp for the pipe. Also in this case if its
a 18bpp video pattern request, then we force the dithering on pipe to be
disabled since it causes CRC mismatches.
The compliance_test_active flag is set at the end of the individual
test handling functions. This is so that the kernel-side operations
can be completed without the risk of interruption from the userspace
app that is polling on that flag.

The core provides now an ABI to userspace for generation of frame CRCs,
so implement the ->set_crc_source() callback and reuse as much code as
possible with the previous ABI implementation.
When handling the pageflip interrupt, we skip 1 or 2 frames depending on
the HW because they contain wrong values. For the legacy ABI for
generating frame CRCs, this was done in userspace but now that we have a
generic ABI it's better if it's not exposed by the kernel.
v2:

VLV apparently gets upset if the PPS for a pipe currently driving an
external DP port gets used for VDD stuff on another eDP port. The DP
port falls over and fails to retrain when this happens, leaving the
user staring at a black screen.
Let's fix it by also tracking which pipe is driving which DP/eDP port.
We'll track this under intel_dp so that we'll share the protection
of the pps_mutex alongside the pps_pipe tracking, since the two
things are intimately related.
I had plans to reduce the protection of pps_mutex to cover only eDP
ports, but with this we can't do that. Well, for for VLV/CHV at least.
For other platforms it should still be possible, which would allow

includes most other KMS headers to avoid breaking driver compilation.
As a step towards fixing that problem, remove the inclusion of
<drm/drm_encoder.h> from <drm/drm_crtc.h> and include it instead where
appropriate. Also remove the forward declarations of the drm_encoder and
drm_encoder_helper_funcs structures from <drm/drm_crtc.h> as they're not
needed in the header.
<drm/drm_encoder.h> now has to include <drm/drm_mode.h> and contain a
forward declaration of struct drm_encoder in order to allow including it
as the first header in a compilation unit.

Sink's capabilities are advertised through DPCD registers and get
updated only on hotplug. So they should be computed only once in the
long pulse handler and saved off in intel_dp structure for the use
later. For this reason two new fields max_sink_lane_count and
max_sink_link_bw are added to intel_dp structure.
This also simplifies the fallback link rate/lane count logic
to handle link training failure. In that case, the max_sink_link_bw
and max_sink_lane_count can be reccomputed to match the fallback
values lowering the sink capabilities due to link train failure.

The main use I have for this is the for_each_plane_id_on_crtc() macro

We'll also want something we just directly pass to various register

which went out of its way to cater to a specific BIOS, setting up DIDL
based on _ADR method. Perhaps that approach worked on that specific
machine, but on the machines I checked the _ADR method invents the
device identifiers out of thin air if DIDL has not been set. The source
for _ADR is also supposed to be the DIDL set by the driver, not the
other way around.
With this, we'll also limit the number of outputs to what the driver
actually has.
A side effect of this change is that the DIDL, and by proxy CADL, will
be initialized in the order of the connector list. That, in turn, has
internal panels in front, ensuring they're included in the DIDL and CADL
lists. Hopefully this ensures the BIOS does not block backlight hotkey

dev_priv->hw_ddb is only used by skl_update_crtcs, but the ddb
allocation for each pipe is calculated in crtc_state.
We can rid of the global member by looking at crtc_state.
Do this by saving all active old ddb allocations from the old crtc_state
in an array, and then point them to the new allocation every time we update
a crtc.
This will allow us to keep track of the intermediate ddb allocations,

In preparation to support many distinct timelines, we need to expand the
activity tracking on the GEM object to handle more than just a request
per engine. We already use the struct reservation_object on the dma-buf
to handle many fence contexts, so integrating that into the GEM object
itself is the preferred solution. (For example, we can now share the same
reservation_object between every consumer/producer using this buffer and
skip the manual import/export via dma-buf.)
v2: Reimplement busy-ioctl (by walking the reservation object), postpone
the ABI change for another day. Similarly use the reservation object to
find the last_write request (if active and from i915) for choosing
display CS flips.
Caveats:
* busy-ioctl: busy-ioctl only reports on the native fences, it will not
warn of stalls (in set-domain-ioctl, pread/pwrite etc) if the object is
being rendered to by external fences. It also will not report the same
busy state as wait-ioctl (or polling on the dma-buf) in the same
circumstances. On the plus side, it does retain reporting of which
*i915* engines are engaged with this object.
* non-blocking atomic modesets take a step backwards as the wait for
render completion blocks the ioctl. This is fixed in a subsequent
patch to use a fence instead for awaiting on the rendering, see
"drm/i915: Restore nonblocking awaits for modesetting"
* dynamic array manipulation for shared-fences in reservation is slower
than the previous lockless static assignment (e.g. gem_exec_lut_handle
runtime on ivb goes from 42s to 66s), mainly due to atomic operations
(maintaining the fence refcounts).
* loss of object-level retirement callbacks, emulated by VMA retirement

On my APL the LSPCON firmware resumes in PCON mode as opposed to the
expected LS mode. It also appears to be in a state where AUX DPCD reads
will succeed but return garbage recovering only after a few hundreds of
milliseconds. After the recovery time DPCD reads will result in the
correct values and things will continue to work. If I2C over AUX is
attempted during this recovery time (implying an AUX write transaction)
the firmware won't recover and will stay in this broken state.
As a workaround check if the firmware is in PCON state after resume and

- Remove the masking of GuC interrupt, which was kept masked till the
start of bottom half, its not really needed as there is only a
single instance of work item & wq is ordered. (Tvrtko)
v4:
- Rebase.
- Rename guc_events to pm_guc_events so as to be indicative of the
register/control block it is associated with. (Chris)
- Add handling for back to back log buffer flush interrupts.
v5:
- Move the read & clearing of register, containing Guc2Host message
bits, outside the irq spinlock. (Tvrtko)
v6:
- Move the log buffer flush interrupt related stuff to the following
patch so as to do only generic bits in this patch. (Tvrtko)
- Rebase.
v7:
- Remove the interrupts_enabled check from gen9_guc_irq_handler, want to
process that last interrupt also before disabling the interrupt, sync
against the work queued by irq handler will be done by caller disabling
the interrupt.

So far PM IER/IIR/IMR registers were being used only for Turbo related
interrupts. But interrupts coming from GuC also use the same set.
As a precursor to supporting GuC interrupts, added new low level routines
so as to allow sharing the programming of PM IER/IIR/IMR registers between
Turbo & GuC.
Also similar to PM IMR, maintaining a bitmask for PM IER register, to allow
easy sharing of it between Turbo & GuC without involving a rmw operation.
v2:
- For appropriateness & avoid any ambiguity, rename old functions
enable/disable pm_irq to mask/unmask pm_irq and rename new functions
enable/disable pm_interrupts to enable/disable pm_irq. (Tvrtko)
- Use u32 in place of uint32_t. (Tvrtko)
v3:
- Rename the fields pm_irq_mask & pm_ier_mask and do some cleanup. (Chris)
- Rebase.
v4: Fix the inadvertent disabling of User interrupt for VECS ring causing
failure for certain IGTs.
v5: Use dev_priv with HAS_VEBOX macro. (Tvrtko)

dma-buf/sync_file: hold reference to fence when creating sync_file
Also good to sync in general since git tends to get confused with the
cherry-picking going on.

We only used the RPM sequence checking inside the lowlevel GTT
accessors, when we had to rely on callers taking the wakeref on our
behalf. Now that we take the RPM wakeref inside the GTT management
routines themselves, we can forgo the sanitycheck of the callers.
