Merge tag 'hwparam-20170420' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/dhowells/linux-fs
Pull hw lockdown support from David Howells:
"Annotation of module parameters that configure hardware resources
including ioports, iomem addresses, irq lines and dma channels.
This allows a future patch to prohibit the use of such module
parameters to prevent that hardware from being abused to gain access
to the running kernel image as part of locking the kernel down under
UEFI secure boot conditions.
Annotations are made by changing:
module_param(n, t, p)
module_param_named(n, v, t, p)
module_param_array(n, t, m, p)
to:
module_param_hw(n, t, hwtype, p)
module_param_hw_named(n, v, t, hwtype, p)
module_param_hw_array(n, t, hwtype, m, p)
where the module parameter refers to a hardware setting
hwtype specifies the type of the resource being configured. This can
be one of:
ioport Module parameter configures an I/O port
iomem Module parameter configures an I/O mem address
ioport_or_iomem Module parameter could be either (runtime set)
irq Module parameter configures an I/O port
dma Module parameter configures a DMA channel
dma_addr Module parameter configures a DMA buffer address
other Module parameter configures some other value
Note that the hwtype is compile checked, but not currently stored (the
lockdown code probably won't require it). It is, however, there for
future use.
A bonus is that the hwtype can also be used for grepping.
The intention is for the kernel to ignore or reject attempts to set
annotated module parameters if lockdown is enabled. This applies to
options passed on the boot command line, passed to insmod/modprobe or
direct twiddling in /sys/module/ parameter files.
The module initialisation then needs to handle the parameter not being
set, by (1) giving an error, (2) probing for a value or (3) using a
reasonable default.
What I can't do is just reject a module out of hand because it may
take a hardware setting in the module parameters. Some important
modules, some ipmi stuff for instance, both probe for hardware and
allow hardware to be manually specified; if the driver is aborts with
any error, you don't get any ipmi hardware.
Further, trying to do this entirely in the module initialisation code
doesn't protect against sysfs twiddling.
[!] Note that in and of itself, this series of patches should have no
effect on the the size of the kernel or code execution - that is
left to a patch in the next series to effect. It does mark
annotated kernel parameters with a KERNEL_PARAM_FL_HWPARAM flag in
an already existing field"

When the kernel is running in secure boot mode, we lock down the kernel to
prevent userspace from modifying the running kernel image. Whilst this
includes prohibiting access to things like /dev/mem, it must also prevent
access by means of configuring driver modules in such a way as to cause a
device to access or modify the kernel image.
To this end, annotate module_param* statements that refer to hardware
configuration and indicate for future reference what type of parameter they
specify. The parameter parser in the core sees this information and can
skip such parameters with an error message if the kernel is locked down.
The module initialisation then runs as normal, but just sees whatever the
default values for those parameters is.
Note that we do still need to do the module initialisation because some
drivers have viable defaults set in case parameters aren't specified and
some drivers support automatic configuration (e.g. PNP or PCI) in addition
to manually coded parameters.
This patch annotates drivers in drivers/isdn/.

CONFIG_8xx is deprecated and should soon be removed in favor
of CONFIG_PPC_8xx.
Anyway, hfc_multi_8xx.h only uses 8xx I/O ports which are
linked to the CPM1 communication processor included in the 8xx
rather than the 8xx itself.
This patch therefore makes it dependent on CONFIG_CPM1 instead,
like several other drivers.

divamnt stores a start_time at module init and uses it to calculate
elapsed time. The elapsed time, stored in secs and usecs, is part of
the trace data the driver maintains for the DIVA Server ISDN cards.
No change to the format of that time data is required.
To avoid overflow on 32-bit systems use ktime_get_ts64() to return
the elapsed monotonic time since system boot.
This is a change from real to monotonic time. Since the driver only
stores elapsed time, monotonic time is sufficient and more robust
against real time clock changes. These new monotonic values can be
more useful for debugging because they can be easily compared to
other monotonic timestamps.
Note elaspsed time values will now start at system boot time rather
than module load time, so they will differ slightly from previously
reported values.

Conflicts:

net/core/dev.c
The net/core/dev.c conflict was the overlap of one commit marking an
existing function static whilst another was adding a new function.
In the include/linux/if_vlan.h case, the type used for a local
variable was changed in 'net', whereas the function got rewritten
to fix a stacked vlan bug in 'net-next'.
In drivers/vhost/net.c, Al Viro's iov_iter conversions in 'net-next'
overlapped with an endainness fix for VHOST 1.0 in 'net'.
In drivers/net/vxlan.c, vxlan_find_vni() added a 'flags' parameter
in 'net-next' whereas in 'net' there was a bug fix to pass in the
correct network namespace pointer in calls to this function.

The bug here is that we use "Reject" as the index into the cau_t[] array
in the else path. Since the cau_t[] has 9 elements if Reject == 9 then
we are reading beyond the end of the array.
My understanding of the code is that it's saying that if Reject is 1 or
too high then that's invalid and we should hang up.

Not all architectures are able to call __builtin_return_address().
On ARM, the mISDN code produces this warning:
hardware/mISDN/w6692.c: In function 'w6692_dctrl':
hardware/mISDN/w6692.c:1181:75: warning: unsupported argument to '__builtin_return_address'
pr_debug("%s: %s dev(%d) open from %p\n", card->name, __func__,
^
hardware/mISDN/mISDNipac.c: In function 'open_dchannel':

pr_debug("%s: %s dev(%d) open from %p\n", isac->name, __func__,
^
In a lot of cases, this is relatively easy to work around by
passing the value of __builtin_return_address(0) from the
callers into the functions that want it. One exception is
the indirect 'open' function call in struct isac_hw. While it
would be possible to fix this as well, this patch only addresses
the other callers properly and lets this one return the direct
parent function, which should be good enough.

The option allows you to remove TTY and compile without errors. This
saves space on systems that won't support TTY interfaces anyway.
bloat-o-meter output is below.
The bulk of this patch consists of Kconfig changes adding "depends on
TTY" to various serial devices and similar drivers that require the TTY
layer. Ideally, these dependencies would occur on a common intermediate
symbol such as SERIO, but most drivers "select SERIO" rather than
"depends on SERIO", and "select" does not respect dependencies.

Hub-initiated LPM is not good for USB communications devices. Comms
devices should be able to tell when their link can go into a lower power
state, because they know when an incoming transmission is finished.
Ideally, these devices would slam their links into a lower power state,
using the device-initiated LPM, after finishing the last packet of their
data transfer.
If we enable the idle timeouts for the parent hubs to enable
hub-initiated LPM, we will get a lot of useless LPM packets on the bus
as the devices reject LPM transitions when they're in the middle of
receiving data. Worse, some devices might blindly accept the
hub-initiated LPM and power down their radios while they're in the
middle of receiving a transmission.
The Intel Windows folks are disabling hub-initiated LPM for all USB
communications devices under a xHCI USB 3.0 host. In order to keep
the Linux behavior as close as possible to Windows, we need to do the
same in Linux.
Set the disable_hub_initiated_lpm flag for for all USB communications
drivers. I know there aren't currently any USB 3.0 devices that
implement these class specifications, but we should be ready if they do.

separately, do so in f_phonet and cdc_phonet, also from Eric
Dumazet.
7) virtio_net accidently uses net_ratelimit() not only on the kernel
warning but also the statistic bump, fix from Rick Jones.
8) ip_route_input_mc() uses fixed init_net namespace, oops, use
dev_net(dev) instead. Fix from Benjamin LaHaise.
9) dev_forward_skb() needs to clear the incoming interface index of the
SKB so that it looks like a new incoming packet, also from Benjamin
LaHaise.
10) iwlwifi mistakenly initializes a channel entry as 2GHZ instead of
5GHZ, fix from Stanislav Yakovlev.
11) Missing kmalloc() return value checks in orinoco, from Santosh
Nayak.
12) ath9k doesn't check for HT capabilities in the right way, it is
checking ht_supported instead of the ATH9K_HW_CAP_HT flag. Fix from
Sujith Manoharan.
13) Fix x86 BPF JIT emission of 16-bit immediate field of AND
instructions, from Feiran Zhuang.
14) Avoid infinite loop in GARP code when registering sysfs entries.
From David Ward.

comparison, oops. Fix from Daniel Borkmann.
16) Fix build of lpc_eth due to dev_hw_addr_rancom() interface being
renamed to eth_hw_addr_random(). From Roland Stigge.

module_param(bool) used to counter-intuitively take an int. In
fddd5201 (mid-2009) we allowed bool or int/unsigned int using a messy
trick.
It's time to remove the int/unsigned int option. For this version
it'll simply give a warning, but it'll break next kernel version.

This converts the remaining USB drivers in the kernel to use the
module_usb_driver() macro which makes the code smaller and a bit
simpler.
Added bonus is that it removes some unneeded kernel log messages about
drivers loading and/or unloading.

in the initramfs and in the module blacklist based on a statement that it
is unsupported. Since the older Digium is also unsupported I'm pretty
confident that this newer card is also not supported.
