The definition of I217_PROXY_CTRL must use the BM_PHY_REG() macro instead
of the PHY_REG() macro for PHY page 800 register 70 since it is for a PHY
register greater than the maximum allowed by the latter macro, and fix a
typo setting the I217_MEMPWR register in e1000_suspend_workarounds_ich8lan.
Also for clarity, rename a few defines as bit definitions instead of masks.

Under certain scenarios, it's possible that bursty manageability traffic
over the BMC-to-OS path may overrun the internal manageability receive
buffer causing dropped manageability packets. Clearing this bit prevents
this situation by interrupting coalescing to allow manageability traffic
through.

The code seems to want to look at the last byte where the HW puts some
information. Since the skb->data area is never seen by the HW I guess it
does not work as expected. We pass the page address to the HW so I
*think* in order to get to the last byte where the information might be
one should use the page buffer and take a look.
This is of course not more than just compile tested.

According to the comment, errata 23 says that the memory we allocate
can't cross a 64KiB boundary. In case of jumbo frames we allocate
complete pages which can never cross the 64KiB boundary because
PAGE_SIZE should be a multiple of 64KiB so we stop either before the
boundary or start after it but never cross it. Furthermore the check
seems bogus because it looks at skb->data which is not seen by the HW
at all because we only pass the DMA address of the page we allocated. So
I *think* the workaround is not required here.

The current value of the udelay timeout for ixgbe_disable_rx_buff is too
short. This causes the security path to not not be properly disabled during
the section that is meant to have it turned off. The end result causes a race
condition that results in RX issues.

This patch enables the PPS system in the PHC framework, by enabling
the clock-out feature on the X540 device. Causes the SDP0 to be set as
a 1Hz clock. Also configures the timesync interrupt cause in order to
report each pulse to the PPS via the PHC framework, which can be used
for general system clock synchronization. (This allows a stable method
for tuning the general system time via the on-board SYSTIM register
based clock.)

This patch enables hardware timestamping for use with PTP software by
extracting a ns counter from an arbitrary fixed point cycles counter.
The hardware generates SYSTIME registers using the DMA tick which
changes based on the current link speed. These SYSTIME registers are
converted to ns using the cyclecounter and timecounter structures
provided by the kernel. Using the SO_TIMESTAMPING api, software can
enable and access timestamps for PTP packets.
The SO_TIMESTAMPING API has space for 3 different kinds of timestamps,
SYS, RAW, and SOF. SYS hardware timestamps are hardware ns values that
are then scaled to the software clock. RAW hardware timestamps are the
direct raw value of the ns counter. SOF software timestamps are the
software timestamp calculated as close as possible to the software
transmit, but are not offloaded to the hardware. This patch only
supports the RAW hardware timestamps due to inefficiency of the SYS
design.
This patch also enables the PHC subsystem features for atomically
adjusting the cycle register, and adjusting the clock frequency in
parts per billion. This frequency adjustment works by slightly
adjusting the value added to the cycle registers each DMA tick. This
causes the hardware registers to overflow rapidly (approximately once
every 34 seconds, when at 10gig link). To solve this, the timecounter
structure is used, along with a timer set for every 25 seconds. This
allows for detecting register overflow and converting the cycle
counter registers into ns values needed for providing useful
timestamps to the network stack.
Only the basic required clock functions are supported at this time,
although the hardware supports some ancillary features and these could
easily be enabled in the future.
Note that use of this hardware timestamping requires modifying daemon
software to use the SO_TIMESTAMPING API for timestamps, and the
ptp_clock PHC framework for accessing the clock. The timestamps have
no relation to the system time at all, so software must use the posix
clock generated by the PHC framework instead.

If the VF sends a MACVLAN request with index of zero then it is not
actually trying to add a filter. Check the index value and only
indicate that operation is not allowed when the VF is actually trying
to add a filter.

The drop enable bit can be used to improve the performance of the adapter
in the case of multiple queues being present. This performance gain is due
to the fact that some slower CPUs can cause the FIFO to backfill preventing
faster CPUs from receiving additional work. By setting the drop enable bit
we prevent this and instead just drop the packets that would have been
bound for the slower CPU.

This change cleans up the logic in the priority based flow control
configuration routines. Both the 82599 and 82598 based routines perform
similar functions however they are both arranged completely differently.
This patch goes over both of them to clean up the code.
In addition I am dropping the ixgbe_fc_pfc flow control mode and instead
just replacing it with checks for if priority flow control is enabled.
This allows us to maintain some of the link flow control information which
allows for an easier transition between link and priority flow control.

Previously we would get a mailbox error and still process the message.
Instead we should exit on error.
In addition we should also be flushing the ACK of the message so that we
can guarantee that the other end is aware we have received the message
while we are processing it.

Current igb outputs registers related to TX/RX queues(ex. RDT, RDH, TDT, TDH).
But it thinks the number of RX/TX queues is 4. But 82576 has 16 RX/TX queues.
This patch modifies igb to output the rest of the registers if the device is
82576.

Resolved the iwlwifi conflict with mainline using 3-way diff posted
by John Linville and Stephen Rothwell. In 'net' we added a bug
fix to make iwlwifi report a more accurate skb->truesize but this
conflicted with RX path changes that happened meanwhile in net-next.
In e1000e a conflict arose in the validation code for settings of
adapter->itr. 'net-next' had more sophisticated logic so that
logic was used.

PFC stats are only tabulated when PFC is enabled. However in IEEE
mode the ieee_pfc pfc_tc bits were not checked and the calculation
was aborted.
This results in statistics not being reported through ethtool and
possible a false Tx hang occurring when receiving pause frames.

Clear the REQ and GNT bit in the eeprom control register (EECD).
This is required if the eeprom is to be accessed with auto read
EERD register.
After a cold reset this doesn't matter but if PBIST MAC test was
executed before booting, the register was left in a dirty state
(the 2 bits where set), which caused the read operation to time out
and returning 0.

igb and ixgbe incorrectly call netdev_tx_reset_queue() from
i{gb|xgbe}_clean_tx_ring() this sort of works in most cases except
when the number of real tx queues changes. When the number of real
tx queues changes netdev_tx_reset_queue() only gets called on the
new number of queues so when we reduce the number of queues we risk
triggering the watchdog timer and repeated device resets.
So this is not only a cosmetic issue but causes real bugs. For
example enabling/disabling DCB or FCoE in ixgbe will trigger this.

This change updates the link flow control configuration so that we
correctly set the link flow control settings for DCB. Previously we would
have to call the fc_enable call 8 times, once for each packet buffer. If
we move that logic into the fc_enable call itself we can avoid multiple
unnecessary register writes.
This change also corrects an issue in which we were only shifting the water
marks for 82599 parts by 6 instead of 10. This was resulting in us only
using 1/16 of the packet buffer when flow control was enabled.

This change makes it so that ixgbe_fc_autoneg is a void and always sets the
current_mode. Previously if the link was down we would return an error,
however there is no harm in simply treating a link down case as a case in
which autoneg simply failed. This allows us to rely on the return value of
the ixgbe_fc_enable call now since there should be no cases where it
returns an error that would normally be ignored.

This change reorders the mapping of rings to q_vectors in the case that the
number of rings exceeds the number of q_vectors. Previously we would
allocate the first R/N queues to the first q_vector where R is the number
of rings and N is the number of q_vectors. Instead of doing this we can do
a better job of interleaving the rings to the CPUs by assigning every Nth
ring to the q_vector.
The below tables illustrate this change for the R = 16 N = 4 case.

This change makes it so that we can track instances of where a packet was
dropped due to a packet being received when there are no DMA buffers
available in the ring.
For some reason this was only being enabled with RSC, however it makes
more sense to always have this feature on so that we can track any cases
where we might drop a buffer due to an Rx ring being full.

ixgbe: driver fix for link flap
The BIT_APP_UPCHG bit is no longer set when ixgbe_dcbnl_set_all() is
called. This results in the FCoE app user priority never getting set
and the driver will not configure the tx_rings correctly for FCoE
packets which use the SAN MTU and FCoE offloads.
We resolve this regression by fixing ixgbe_copy_dcb_cfg() to also
check for FCoE application changes. Additionally, we can drop the
IEEE variants of get_dcb_app() because this path is never called
with the IEEE mode enabled.

If the Physical Function (PF) resets after the VF has set jumbo
frame MTU then the VF jumbo frame is overwritten. Make sure the
VF driver always requests proper MTU size after reset
synchronization.

For the 82573, ASPM L1 gets disabled wholesale so this special-case code
is not required. For the 82574 the previous patch does the same as for
the 82573, disabling L1 on the adapter. Thus, this code is no longer
required and can be removed.

ASPM on the 82574 causes trouble. Currently the driver disables L0s for
this NIC but only disables L1 if the MTU is >1500. This patch simply
causes L1 to be disabled regardless of the MTU setting.

Previously, IPv6 extension header parsing was disabled for all devices
supported by e1000e when using packet split mode. However, as per a
silicon errata, only certain devices need this restriction and will need
to disable IPv6 extension header parsing for all modes.

There is a known issue in the 82577 and 82578 device that can cause a hang
in the device hardware during traffic stress; the current workaround in the
driver is to disable transmit flow control by default. If the user enables
transmit flow control and the device hang occurs, provide a message in the
syslog suggesting to re-enable the workaround.

While testing the TCP changes I had to fix an issue in order to be able to
load and unload the module.
The recent patch that added thermal sensor support added a use after free
bug on module unload with an 82598 adapter in the system. To resolve the
issue I have updated the code so that when we free the info_kobj we set it
back to NULL.
I suspect there are likely other bugs present, but I will leave that for
another patch that can undergo more testing.
I am submitting this directly to net-next since this fixes a fairly serious
bug that will lock up the ixgbe module until the system is rebooted.

If the user request for the number of VFs in the max_vfs parameter is
out of range then reset the value to the default value of zero. This
makes the behavior of the ixgbe driver the same as for the igb driver.

Secondary unicast and multicast addresses are added to the Receive
Address registers (RAR) for most parts supported by the driver. For
82579, there is only one actual RAR and a number of Shared Receive Address
registers (SHRAR) that are shared among the driver and f/w which can be
reserved and write-protected by the f/w. On this device, use the SHRARs
that are not taken by f/w for the additional addresses.
Add a MAC ops function pointer infrastructure (similar to other MAC
operations in the driver) for setting RARs, introduce a new rar_set
function for 82579 and convert the existing code that sets RARs on other
devices to a generic rar_set function.

The PHY initialization flows and assorted workarounds for 82577/8/9 done
during driver load and resume from Sx should be the same yet they are not.
Combine the current flows/workarounds into a common set of functions that
are called during the different code paths.

An update to the EEPROM on 82579 will extend a delay in hardware to fix an
issue with WoL not working after a G3->S5 transition which is unrelated to
the driver. However, this extended delay conflicts with nominal operation
of the device when it is initialized by the driver and after every reset
of the hardware (i.e. the driver starts configuring the device before the
hardware is done with it's own configuration work). The workaround for
when the driver is in control of the device is to tell the hardware after
every reset the configuration delay should be the original shorter one.
Some pre-existing variables are renamed generically to be re-used with
new register accesses.

With the support to bounce buffer added, the skb is coming as nonlinear in the
case of non-DDPed data frames for FCoE, which is mostly ok as the FCoE stack
would take care of that. However, for target mode, we have to set the FC CRC
and FC EOF field to allow the protocol stack to not drop the frame for the last
data frame of that sequence. So fix this by linearizing the skb first before
doing skb_put().

The driver was freeing memory in shutdown instead of remove. As a result
we were leaking memory if IEEE DCB was enabled and we loaded/unloaded the
driver. This change moves the freeing of the memory into the remove
routine where it belongs.

This patch consolidates the case logic for checking whether a device supports
WoL into a single place. Previously ethtool and probe used similar logic that
was copied and maintained separately. This patch encapsulates the core logic
into a function so that a user only has to update one place.

During igb_reset(), we initiate a hardware reset which will clear our
flow control settings. For auto-negotiation, we re-negotiate them when
linking up again, but we need to force them off properly for the forced
speed case.

Previously, a workaround was added to address a hardware bug in the
PCIm2PCI arbiter where a write by the driver of the Transmit/Receive
Descriptor Tail register could happen concurrently with a write of any
MAC CSR register by the Manageability Engine (ME) which could cause the
Tail register to have an incorrect value. The arbiter is supposed to
prevent the concurrent writes but there is a bug that can cause the Host
(driver) access to be acknowledged later than it should.
After further investigation, it was discovered that a driver write access
of any MAC CSR register after being idle for some time can be lost when
ME is accessing a MAC CSR register. When this happens, no further target
access is claimed by the MAC which could hang the system.
The workaround to check bit 24 in the FWSM register (set only when ME is
accessing a MAC CSR register) and delay for a limited amount of time until
it is cleared is now done for all driver writes of MAC CSR registers on
82579 with ME enabled. In the rare case when the driver is writing the
Tail register and ME is accessing any MAC CSR register for a duration
longer than the maximum delay, write the register and verify it has the
correct value before continuing, otherwise reset the device.
This patch also moves some pre-existing macros from the hardware-specific
header file to the more appropriate generic driver header file.

In K1 mode (a MAC/PHY interconnect power mode), the 82579 device shuts down
the Phase Lock Loop (PLL) of the interconnect to save power. When the PLL
starts working, the 82579 device may start to transfer the packet through
the interconnect before it is fully functional causing packet drops. This
workaround disables shutting down the PLL in K1 mode for 1G link speed.

80003ES2LAN has an errata such that far-end loopback may be activated by
bit errors producing a reserved symbol. In order to disable far-end
loopback quickly enough, disable it immediately following a reset.

This change ensures that the itr/itr_setting adjustment logic is used,
even for the default/compiled-in value.
Context:
When we changed the default InterruptThrottleRate value from default
(3 = dynamic mode) to 8000 for example, only adapter->itr_setting
(which controls interrupt coalescing mode) was set to 8000, but
adapter->itr (which controls the value set in NIC register) was not
updated accordingly. So from ethtool, it seemed the interrupt
throttling is enabled at 8000 intr/s, but the NIC actually was
running in dynamic mode which has lower CPU efficiency especially
when throughput is not high.

This patch makes it so that we identify FCoE rings earlier than
ixgbe_set_rx_buffer_len. Instead we identify the Rx FCoE rings at
allocation time in ixgbe_alloc_q_vector.
The motivation behind this change is to avoid memory corruption when FCoE
is enabled. Without this change we were initializing the rings at 0, and
2K on systems with 4K pages, then when we bumped the buffer size to 4K with
order 1 pages we were accessing offsets 2K and 6K instead of 0 and 4K.
This was resulting in memory corruptions.

The UTA table was being set to the functional equivalent of promiscuous
mode. This was resulting in traffic from the virtual function being
flooded onto the wire and the PF device. This resulted in additional
overhead for VF traffic sent to the network and in the case of traffic
sent to the PF or another VF resulted in unwanted packets on the wire.
This was actually not the intended behavior. Now that we can program
the embedded switch correctly we can remove this snippit of code. Users
who want to support this should configure the FDB correctly using the
FDB ops.

There are times we turn of the laser before shutdown. This is a bad thing
if we want to wake on lan to work so now we make sure the laser is on
before shutdown if we support WoL.

A workaround was previously put in the driver to reset the device when
transitioning to Sx in order to activate the changed settings of the PHY
OEM bits (Low Power Link Up, or LPLU, and GbE disable configuration) for
82577/8/9 devices. After further review, it was found such a reset can
cause the 82579 to confuse which version of 82579 it actually is and broke
LPLU on all 82577/8/9 devices. The workaround during an S0->Sx transition
on 82579 (instead of resetting the PHY) is to restart auto-negotiation
after the OEM bits are configured; the restart of auto-negotiation
activates the new OEM bits as does the reset. With 82577/8, the reset is
changed to a generic reset which fixes the LPLU bits getting set wrong.

This patch adds a source file implementing a PHC. Only the basic
clock operations have been implemented, although the hardware
would offer some ancillary functions. The code is fairly self
contained and is not yet used in the main igb driver.
Every timestamp and clock read operation must consult the overflow
counter to form a correct time value. Access to the counter is
protected by a spin lock, and the counter is implemented using the
standard cyclecounter/timecounter code.

When the adapter is closed while it is simultaneously going through a
reset, it can cause a null-pointer dereference when the two different code
paths simultaneously cleanup up the Tx/Rx resources.

Fix up code so that changes in DCB settings
are detected only when ixgbe_dcbnl_set_all is called.
Previously, a series of 'change' commands followed by
a call to ixgbe_dcbnl_set_all() would always be handled
as a HW change - even if the net change was zero.
This patch checks for this case of no actual change and
skips going through the HW set process.
Without this fix, the link could reset and result in
a link flap.
The core change in this patch is to check for changes
in the ixgbe_copy_dcb_cfg() routine - and return
a bitmask of detected changes. The other
places where changes were detected previously can be removed.

Dan Carpenter noticed that ixgbevf initial default was different than
the rest. But the problem is broader than that, only one Intel driver (ixgb)
was doing it almost right.
The convention for default debug level should be consistent among
Intel drivers and follow established convention.

This patch fixes a regression introduced by commit "e1000: do vlan
cleanup (799d531)".
Apparently some e1000 chips (not mine) are sensitive about the order of
setting vlan filter and vlan stripping/inserting functionality. So this
patch changes the order so it's the same as before vlan cleanup.

Pull kmap_atomic cleanup from Cong Wang.
It's been in -next for a long time, and it gets rid of the (no longer
used) second argument to k[un]map_atomic().
Fix up a few trivial conflicts in various drivers, and do an "evil
merge" to catch some new uses that have come in since Cong's tree.

This patch allows us to avoid a Tx hang when SR-IOV is enabled. This hang
can be triggered by sending small packets at a rate that was triggering Rx
missed errors from the adapter while the internal Tx switch and at least
one VF are enabled.
This was all due to the fact that under heavy stress the Rx FIFO never
drained below the flow control high water mark. This resulted in the Tx
FIFO being head of line blocked due to the fact that it relies on the flow
control high water mark to determine when it is acceptable for the Tx to
place a packet in the Rx FIFO.
The resolution for this is to set the FCRTH value to the RXPBSIZE - 32 so
that even if the ring is almost completely full we can still place Tx
packets on the Rx ring and drop incoming Rx traffic if we do not have
sufficient space available in the Rx FIFO.

Resolve namespace issues when FCoE or DCB is not enabled.
The issue is with certain configurations we end up with namespace
problems. A simple example:
ixgbe_main.c
- defines func A()
- uses func A()
ixgbe_fcoe.c
- uses func A()
ixgbe.h
- has prototype for func A()
For default (FCoE included) all is good. But when it isn't the namespace
checker complains about how func A() could be static.
To resolve this, created a ixgbe_lib file to contain functions used
by DCB/FCoE and their helper functions so that they are always in
namespace whether or not DCB/FCoE is enabled.

This patch replaces the variable name data with the variable name features
for ixgbe_fix_features and ixgbe_set_features. This helps to make some
issues more obvious such as the fact that we were disabling Rx VLAN tag
stripping when we should have been forcing it to be enabled when DCB is
enabled.
In addition there was deprecated code present that was disabling the LRO
flag if we had the itr value set too low. I have updated this logic so
that we will now allow the LRO flag to be set, but will not enable RSC
until the rx-usecs value is high enough to allow enough time for Rx packet
coalescing.

This change makes it so that only the 2nd cache line in the ring structure
should see frequent updates. The advantage to this is that it should
reduce the amount of cross CPU cache bouncing since only the 2nd cache line
will be changing between most network transactions.

This change makes it so that we always write the DMA address for the skb
itself on the same tx_buffer struct that the skb is written on. This way
we don't need the MAPPED_AS_PAGE flag and we always know it will be the
first DMA value that we will have to unmap.
In addition I have found an issue in which we were leaking a DMA mapping if
the value happened to be 0 which is possible on some platforms. In order
to resolve that I have updated the transmit path to use the length instead
of the DMA mapping in order to determine if a mapping is actually present.
One other tweak in this patch is that it only writes the olinfo information
on the first descriptor. As it turns out it isn't necessary to write it
for anything but the first descriptor so there is no need to carry it
forward.

Instead of keeping a local copy of the skb on the stack for as long as long
as we do it makes sense to instead just place it on the first tx_buffer
structure so that we can save space on the stack and avoid unnecessary
read/write operations copying the pointer out of the stack and onto the
ring later.

A separate value was added to track Tx completions in order to determine if
the Tx unit was hung. However we can do the same thing using the number of
packets completed without having to add another stat to the Tx ring.

This change makes it more likely that the descriptor flags setup will use
cmov instructions instead of conditional jumps when setting up the flags.
The advantage to this is that the code should just flow a bit more
smoothly.
To do this it is necessary to set the TX_FLAGS_CSUM bit in tx_flags when
doing TSO so that we also do the checksum in addition to the segmentation
offload.

This patch replaces the existing Rx hot-path in the ixgbe driver with a new
implementation that is based on performing a double buffered receive. The
ixgbe driver already had something similar in place for its' packet split
path, however in that case we were still receiving the header for the
packet into the sk_buff. The big change here is the entire receive path
will receive into pages only, and then pull the header out of the page and
copy it into the sk_buff data. There are several motivations behind this
approach.
First, this allows us to avoid several cache misses as we were taking a
set of cache misses for allocating the sk_buff and then another set for
receiving data into the sk_buff. We are able to avoid these misses on
receive now as we allocate the sk_buff when data is available.
Second we are able to see a considerable performance gain when an IOMMU is
enabled because we are no longer unmapping every buffer on receive.
Instead we can delay the unmap until we are unable to use the page, and
instead we can simply call sync_single_range on the half of the page that
contains new data.
Finally we are able to drop a considerable amount of code from the driver
as we no longer have to support 2 different receive modes, packet split and
one buffer. This allows us to optimize the Rx path further since less
branching is required.

Disabling and enabling DCB can cause FCoE hardware initialization to
occur on the incorrect traffic class when the up2tc mapping has not
yet been reconfigured.
Fix this by using the DCB configuration maps that are correct
and will be pushed at mqprio after DCB driver setup completes
successfully.

There was a race condition in the reset path where the RX buffer
could become corrupted during Fdir configuration.This is due to
a HW bug.The fix right now is to lock the buffer while we do the
fdir configuration.Since we were using similar workaround for another bug,
I moved the existing code to a function and reused it.HW team also recommended
that IXGBE_MAX_SECRX_POLL value be changed from 30 to 40.The erratum for this
bug will be published in the next release 82599 Spec Update

A previous fix had gone though and disabled relaxed ordering for Rx
descriptor read fetching. This was not necessary as this functions
correctly and has no ill effects on the system.
In addition several of the defines used for the DCA control registers were
incorrect in that they indicated descriptor effects when they actually had
an impact on either data or header write back. As such I have update these
to correctly reflect either DATA or HEAD.

This change makes it a bit easier to do the loopback frame creating and
testing. Previously we were doing an and to drop the last bit, and then
dividing the frame_size by 2 in order to get locations for frame bytes and
testing. Instead we can simplify it by just shifting the register one bit
to the right and using that for the frame offsets.
This change also replaces all instances of rx_buffer_info with just
rx_buffer since that is closer to the name of the actual structure being
used and can save a few extra characters.
In addition I have updated the logic for cleaning up a test frame so that
we pass an rx_buffer instead of the sk_buff. The main motivation behind
this is changes that will replace the sk_buff with just a page in the
future.

This patch makes the rings a part of the q_vector directly instead of
indirectly. Specifically on x86 systems this helps to avoid any cache
set conflicts between the q_vector, the tx_rings, and the rx_rings as the
critical stride is 4K and in order to cross that boundary you would need to
have over 15 rings on a single q_vector.
In addition this allows for smarter allocations when Flow Director is
enabled. Previously Flow Director would set the irq_affinity hints based
on the CPU and was still using a node interleaving approach which on some
systems would end up with the two values mismatched. With the new approach
we can set the affinity for the irq_vector and use the CPU for that
affinity to determine the node value for the node and the rings.

The old code had several errors in how it was determining the vector
budget. In order to simplify things this patch updates the code so that it
will attempt to always allocated paired Rx/Tx vectors instead of attempting
to allocate individual vectors when the number of queues is less than the
number of CPUs.

This change is meant to address the fact that the tx_itr_setting was
dropping to 0 when no separate Tx vectors were provided. This had resulted
in the driver incorrectly configuring the Tx ring with a WTHRESH of 1 in
order to avoid Tx hangs even though that was not necessary. This change
makes it so that we instead take a look at the Tx ring's q_vector to
determine if the ring will have an ITR value less than 8us.

There isn't any need to clear the status bits in the descriptors due to the
fact that the eop_desc provides enough information for us to know
that we have cleaned to the last packet that the software has put on the
ring. The status bits are cleared as a part of putting the frame on the
ring so as long as we do not read the descriptor bit prior to reading the
value eop_desc we should be able to guarantee that we will not clean beyond
the end of the current data stream.

We are seeing dev_watchdog hangs on several drivers. I suspect this is due
to the __QUEUE_STATE_STACK_XOFF bit being set prior to a reset for link
change, and then not being cleared by netdev_tx_reset_queue. This change
corrects that.
In addition we were seeing dev_watchdog hangs on igb after running the
ethtool tests. We found this to be due to the fact that the ethtool test
runs the same logic as ndo_start_xmit, but we were never clearing the XOFF
flag since the loopback test in ethtool does not do byte queue accounting.

As noted by Ben Hutchings and David Miller, work limits for NAPI
should not be tied to interrupt moderation parameters. This
should be handled by NAPI, possibly through sysfs.
Neil Horman & Stephen Hemminger are working on a solution for
NAPI currently. In the meantime, remove this tie between
work limits and interrupt moderation.

{g|s}etnumtcs() today returns a u8 that is only used by the DCB code
to verify no error occurred. Today the driver implementations return
negative error codes which end up being non-zero so the logic works
out but triggers some sparse warnings.
To fix the sparse warnings convert the return value to an int.

dcb netlink code calls setup_tc to init hardware traffic classes
to use for DCB. At some call sites the return values are not
checked for errors and in one case may return -EINVAL back to
the net/dcbnl.c caller which is expecting a u8.
This fixes some smatch hits and although failures are never
seen in practive its best to check return codes.

The old code would += the total errors every time
stats were gathered. Instead, keep a count of short-pkt
and long-pkt counters and then simply add them together
for the rx-over-length stat.

This allows the NIC to receive packets with bad FCS
and other errors. Good for sniffing packets on flakey
networks.
v4: Only flax rx-over-length errors if pkt is beyond
maximum expected packet size, not just beyond the MTU.
This matches the existing logic for this counter.

family, some MACs use the generic function and others use the function

This enables enabling/disabling reception of the Ethernet
FCS. This can be useful when sniffing packets.
For e1000e, enabling RXFCS can change the default
behaviour for how the NIC handles CRC. Disabling RXFCS
will take the NIC back to defaults, which can be configured
as part of the module options.

Per ./Documentation/CodingStyle, goto statements are acceptable for the
centralized exiting of functions when there are multiple exit points which
share common work such as cleanup. When no common work is required for
multiple exit points, the function should just return at these exit points
instead of doing an unnecessary jump to a centralized return. This patch
cleans up the inappropriate use of goto statements, and removes unnecessary
variables (or move to a smaller scope) where possible as a result of the
cleanups.

There are two exit points of e1000e_write_nvm_spi() which require the
nvm->ops.release() function pointer called just before exiting.
Consolidate the two duplicate pieces of common work with a goto. With
this change, the value ret_val will need to be returned instead of 0.

Renamed dev_hw_addr_random to eth_hw_addr_random() to reflect that
this function only assign a random ethernet address (MAC). Removed
the second parameter (u8 *hwaddr), it's redundant since the also
given net_device already contains net_device->dev_addr.
Set it directly.
Adapt igbvf and ixgbevf to the changed function.
Small fix for ixgbevf_probe(): if ixgbevf_sw_init() fails
(which means the device got no dev_addr) handle the error and
jump to err_sw_init as already done by igbvf in similar case.

This change combines a number of post-DMA Rx packet processing functions
into a single function. The advantage of this is that it combines most of
the Rx descriptor processing into one spot so it should all be warm in the
cache.

It doesn't make much sense to differentiate between advanced and legacy
descriptors when the only descriptors that ixgbe uses are advanced
descriptors. As such we can drop the _ADV suffix since all ixgbe

This change makes it so that we always clear the status/error bits in the
Rx descriptor in the allocation path instead of the cleanup path. The
advantage to this is that we spend less time modifying data. As such we
can modify the data once and then let it go cold in the cache instead of
writing it, reading it, and then writing it again.

This patch is meant to address the fact that RSC has not been setting the
gso_size value on the skb. As a result performance on lossy TCP
connections was negatively impacted. This change resolves the issue by
setting gso_size to the average size for incoming packets.

This change addresses several issue.
First I had left the use of the next and prev skb pointers floating around
in the code and they were overdue to be pulled since I had rewritten the
RSC code in the out-of-tree driver some time ago to address issues brought
up by David Miller in regards to this.
I am also now defaulting to always leaving the first buffer unmapped on any
packet and then unmapping it after we read the EOP descriptor. This allows
a simplification of the path with less branching.
Instead of counting packets received the code was changed some time ago to
track the number of buffers received. This leads to inaccurate counting
when you compare numbers of packets received by the hardware versus what is
tracked by the software. To correct this I am revising things so that the
append_cnt value for RSC accurately tracks the number of frames received.

If the number of tx/rx queues changes the ethtool ioctl
ETHTOOL_GSTATS may overrun the userspace buffer. This
occurs because the general practice in user space to
query stats is to issue a ETHTOOL_GSSET cmd to learn the
buffer size needed, allocate the buffer, then call
ETHTOOL_GSTIRNGS and ETHTOOL_GSTATS. If the number of
real_num_queues is changed or flow control attributes
are changed after ETHTOOL_GSSET but before the
ETHTOOL_GSTRINGS/ETHTOOL_GSTATS a user space buffer
overrun occurs.
To fix the overrun always return the max buffer size
needed from get_sset_count() then return all strings
and stats from get_strings()/get_ethtool_stats().
This _will_ change the output from the ioctl() call
which could break applications and script parsing in
theory. I believe these changes should not break existing
tools because the only changes will be more {tx|rx}_queues
and the {tx|rx}_pb_* stats will always be returned.
Existing scripts already need to handle changing number
of queues because this occurs today depending on system
and current features. The {tx|rx}_pb_* stats are at the
end of the output and should be handled by scripts today
regardless.
Finally get_ethtool_stats and get_strings are free-form
outputs tools parsing these outputs should be defensive
anyways. In the end these updates are better then
having a tool segfault because of a buffer overrun.

Users expect the up2tc mapping to be maintained across a DCB
enable/disable/enable transition. And since we maintain all
the other DCB attributes we should do this for up2tc mappings
as well just to be consistent. Also without this we break
user space applications that expect this to occur that
previously worked.

If the netdev is already in NETREG_UNREGISTERING/_UNREGISTERED state, do not
update the real num tx queues. netdev_queue_update_kobjects() is already
called via remove_queue_kobjects() at NETREG_UNREGISTERING time. So, when
upper layer driver, e.g., FCoE protocol stack is monitoring the netdev
event of NETDEV_UNREGISTER and calls back to LLD ndo_fcoe_disable() to remove
extra queues allocated for FCoE, the associated txq sysfs kobjects are already
removed, and trying to update the real num queues would cause something like

This patch fixes an issue in which RSC will generate corrupted frames when
PAGE_SIZE is larger than 8K. Specifically it looks like that in 2.6.39 a
change was made so that GRO would always have at least 16 frags available
for coalescing, but the ixgbe RSC logic was not updated. As such the RSC
feature would generate a frame larger than 64K and then overflow the value
in the IP length field.
To correct that I am now basing things on the PAGE_SIZE.

A check for the number of VFs allocated should have used a greater than
equal operator instead of just greater than. This caused allocation of
exactly 32 VFs to not enable the PF transmit and receive enables.

Recent addition of code to find already allocated VFs failed to take
account that systems with 2 or more multi-port SR-IOV capable controllers
might have already enabled VFs. Make sure that the VFs the function is
finding are actually subordinate to the particular instance of the adapter
that is looking for them and not subordinate to some device that has
previously enabled SR-IOV.
This bug exists in 3.2 stable as well as 3.3 release candidates.

The majority of the e1000e code checks most function return values using a
test like 'if (ret_val)' or 'if (!ret_val)' but there are a few instances
of 'if (ret_val == 0)'. This patch converts the latter to the former for
consistency.

The existing ITR code is broken and confusing, with lots of similarly-named
variables that do different things. Additionally, after the driver carefully
determines the optimal interrupt rate for the adapter, it then
ignores it and always writes a fixed, suboptimal value.
This patch refactors that code to make variable names more descriptive of
what they actually do, and then actually writes the calculated result to
the hardware.
Preliminary testing shows that netperf TCP_STREAM tests goes from ~918Mbps
to ~940Mbps, and TCP_RR goes from ~2k transactions/sec up to > 8k.

Remove jump to out label that was skipping over code to replace the
ack bit in the mailbox cache variable. This was causing driver mailbox
routines that poll for the PF to ack a message to time out which would
in turn cause all other mailbox messages to fail. Also replace the
mailbox cache variable message indication bit when a message is found
so that other functions that choose to poll for a mailbox message from
the PF won't miss it.

The X520 family of network devices, with the 82599 chip, support a
small number of Intel-verified SFP+ modules on their NICs. To maintain
stability and quality, the current devices restrict untested 3rd party
SFP+ modules.
This patch introduces a module parameter for ixgbe to allow these untested
modules at the user's peril. It also includes a warning to the syslog
alerting users that the modules aren't supported, and results may
vary.
