Add an pci_enable_ptm() interface so drivers can enable PTM.
The PCI core enables PTM on PTM Roots and switches automatically, but we
don't enable PTM on endpoints unless a driver requests it.

Instead of passing negative flags like PCI_IRQ_NOMSI to prevent use of
certain interrupt types, pass positive flags like PCI_IRQ_LEGACY,
PCI_IRQ_MSI, etc., to specify the acceptable interrupt types.
This is based on a number of pending driver conversions that just happend
to be a whole more obvious to read this way, and given that we have no
users in the tree yet it can still easily be done.
I've also added a PCI_IRQ_ALL_TYPES catchall to keep the case of accepting
all interrupt types very simple.

Set the affinity_mask in the PCI device before allocating vectors so that

that the low-level interrupt code can perform the interrupt affinity

Currently the Linux PCI core does not touch power state of PCI bridges and
PCIe ports when system suspend is entered. Leaving them in D0 consumes
power unnecessarily and may prevent the CPU from entering deeper C-states.
With recent PCIe hardware we can power down the ports to save power given
that we take into account few restrictions:
- The PCIe port hardware is recent enough, starting from 2015.
- Devices connected to PCIe ports are effectively in D3cold once the port
is transitioned to D3 (the config space is not accessible anymore and
the link may be powered down).
- Devices behind the PCIe port need to be allowed to transition to D3cold
and back. There is a way both drivers and userspace can forbid this.
- If the device behind the PCIe port is capable of waking the system it
needs to be able to do so from D3cold.
This patch adds a new flag to struct pci_device called 'bridge_d3'. This
flag is set and cleared by the PCI core whenever there is a change in power
management state of any of the devices behind the PCIe port. When system
later on is suspended we only need to check this flag and if it is true
transition the port to D3 otherwise we leave it in D0.
Also provide override mechanism via command line parameter
"pcie_port_pm=[off|force]" that can be used to disable or enable the
feature regardless of the BIOS manufacturing date.

After 104daa71b3 ("PCI: Determine actual VPD size on first access"), the
PCI core computes the valid VPD size by parsing the VPD starting at offset
0x0. We don't attempt to read past that valid size because that causes
some devices to crash.
However, some devices do have data past that valid size. For example,
Chelsio adapters contain two VPD structures, and the driver needs both of
them.
Add pci_set_vpd_size(). If a driver knows it is safe to read past the end
of the VPD data structure at offset 0, it can use pci_set_vpd_size() to
allow access to as much data as it needs.

Solve IOMMU support issues with PCIe non-transparent bridges that use
Requester ID look-up tables (RID-LUT), e.g., the PEX8733.
The NTB connects devices in two independent PCI domains. Devices separated
by the NTB are not able to discover each other. A PCI packet being
forwared from one domain to another has to have its RID modified so it
appears on correct bus and completions are forwarded back to the original
domain through the NTB. The RID is translated using a preprogrammed table
(LUT) and the PCI packet propagates upstream away from the NTB. If the
destination system has IOMMU enabled, the packet will be discarded because
the new RID is unknown to the IOMMU. Adding a DMA alias for the new RID
allows IOMMU to properly recognize the packet.
Each device behind the NTB has a unique RID assigned in the RID-LUT. The
current DMA alias implementation supports only a single alias, so it's not
possible to support mutiple devices behind the NTB when IOMMU is enabled.
Enable all possible aliases on a given bus (256) that are stored in a
bitset. Alias devfn is directly translated to a bit number. The bitset is
not allocated for devices that have no need for DMA aliases.

During EEH recovery, hotplug is applied to the devices which don't
have drivers or their drivers don't support EEH. However, the hotplug,
which was implemented based on PCI bus, can't be applied to VF directly.
Instead, we unplug and plug individual PCI devices (VFs).
This renames virtn_{add,remove}() and exports them so they can be used

The PCI config header (first 64 bytes of each device's config space) is
defined by the PCI spec so generic software can identify the device and
manage its usage of I/O, memory, and IRQ resources.
Some non-spec-compliant devices put registers other than BARs where the
BARs should be. When the PCI core sizes these "BARs", the reads and writes
it does may have unwanted side effects, and the "BAR" may appear to
describe non-sensical address space.
Add a flag bit to mark non-compliant devices so we don't touch their BARs.
Turn off IO/MEM decoding to prevent the devices from consuming address
space, since we can't read the BARs to find out what that address space
would be.

The Chelsio T5 has a PCIe compliance erratum that causes Malformed TLP or
Unexpected Completion errors in some systems, which may cause device access
timeouts.
Per PCIe r3.0, sec 2.2.9, "Completion headers must supply the same values
for the Attribute as were supplied in the header of the corresponding
Request, except as explicitly allowed when IDO is used."
Instead of copying the Attributes from the Request to the Completion, the
T5 always generates Completions with zero Attributes. The receiver of a
Completion whose Attributes don't match the Request may accept it (which
itself seems non-compliant based on sec 2.3.2), or it may handle it as a
Malformed TLP or an Unexpected Completion, which will probably lead to a
device access timeout.
Work around this by disabling "Relaxed Ordering" and "No Snoop" in the Root
Port so it always generate Requests with zero Attributes.
This does affect all other devices which are downstream of that Root Port,
but these are performance optimizations that should not make a functional
difference.
Note that Configuration Space accesses are never supposed to have TLP
Attributes, so we're safe waiting till after any Configuration Space
accesses to do the Root Port "fixup".

In f309d44431 ("platform_device: better support builtin boilerplate
avoidance"), we introduced the builtin_driver() macro.
Here we use that support and extend it to PCI driver registration, so where
a driver is clearly non-modular and builtin-only, we can register it in a
similar fashion. Existing code that is clearly non-modular can be updated
with the simple mapping of
module_pci_driver(...) ---> builtin_pci_driver(...)
We've essentially cloned the former to make the latter, and taken out the
remove/module_exit parts since those never get used in a non-modular build
of the code.

Commit 1851617cd2 ("PCI/MSI: Disable MSI at enumeration even if kernel
doesn't support MSI") changed the location of the code that initialises
dev->msi_cap/msix_cap and then disables MSI/MSI-X interrupts at PCI
probe time in devices that have this flag set. It moved the code from
pci_msi_init_pci_dev() to a new function named pci_msi_setup_pci_dev(),
called by pci_setup_device().
The pseries PCI probing code does not call pci_setup_device(), so since
the aforementioned commit the function pci_msi_setup_pci_dev() is not
called and MSI/MSI-X interrupts are left enabled. Additionally because
dev->msi_cap/msix_cap are not initialised no driver can ever enable
MSI/MSI-X.
To fix this, the pseries PCI probe should manually call
pci_msi_setup_pci_dev(), so this patch makes it non-static.

Firmware typically configures the PCIe fabric with a consistent Max Payload
Size setting based on the devices present at boot. A hot-added device
typically has the power-on default MPS setting (128 bytes), which may not
match the fabric.
The previous Linux default, in the absence of any "pci=pcie_bus_*" options,
was PCIE_BUS_TUNE_OFF, in which we never touch MPS, even for hot-added
devices.
Add a new default setting, PCIE_BUS_DEFAULT, in which we make sure every
device's MPS setting matches the upstream bridge. This makes it more
likely that a hot-added device will work in a system with optimized MPS
configuration.
Note that if we hot-add a device that only supports 128-byte MPS, it still
likely won't work because we don't reconfigure the rest of the fabric.
Booting with "pci=pcie_bus_peer2peer" is a workaround for this because it
sets MPS to 128 for everything.

Add a pci_scan_root_bus_msi() interface so an arch can specify the MSI
controller up front. This removes the need for a pcibios callback to set
the MSI controller later.
This is not exported because I'd like to replace the variety of "scan root
bus" interfaces with a single, more extensible interface that can handle
the MSI controller, domain, pci_ops, resources, etc. I hope this interface
is temporary.

Previously, we allocated pci_ats structures when an IOMMU driver called
pci_enable_ats(). An SR-IOV VF shares the STU setting with its PF, so when
enabling ATS on the VF, we allocated a pci_ats struct for the PF if it
didn't already have one. We held the sriov->lock to serialize threads
concurrently enabling ATS on several VFS so only one would allocate the PF
pci_ats.
Gregor reported a deadlock here:

There's no reason to delay allocating the pci_ats struct, and if we
allocate it for each device at enumeration-time, there's no need for
locking in pci_enable_ats().
Allocate pci_ats struct during enumeration, when we initialize other
capabilities.
Note that this implementation requires ATS to be enabled on the PF first,
before on any of the VFs because the PF controls the STU for all the VFs.

Add a dev_flags bit, PCI_DEV_FLAGS_VPD_REF_F0, to access VPD through
function 0 to provide VPD access on other functions. This is for hardware
devices that provide copies of the same VPD capability registers in
multiple functions. Because the kernel expects that each function has its
own registers, both the locking and the state tracking are affected by VPD
accesses to different functions.
On such devices for example, if a VPD write is performed on function 0,
*any* later attempt to read VPD from any other function of that device will
hang. This has to do with how the kernel tracks the expected value of the
F bit per function.
Concurrent accesses to different functions of the same device can not only
hang but also corrupt both read and write VPD data.
When hangs occur, typically the error message:
vpd r/w failed. This is likely a firmware bug on this device.
will be seen.
Never set this bit on function 0 or there will be an infinite recursion.

David Ahern reported that d63e2e1f3d ("sparc/PCI: Clip bridge windows

pci 0000:06:00.0: reg 0x184: can't handle BAR above 4GB (bus address 0x110204000)
The problem is that sparc64 assumed that dma_addr_t only needed to hold DMA
addresses, i.e., bus addresses returned via the DMA API (dma_map_single(),
etc.), while the PCI core assumed dma_addr_t could hold *any* bus address,
including raw BAR values. On sparc64, all DMA addresses fit in 32 bits, so
dma_addr_t is a 32-bit type. However, BAR values can be 64 bits wide, so
they don't fit in a dma_addr_t. d63e2e1f3d added new checking that
tripped over this mismatch.
Add pci_bus_addr_t, which is wide enough to hold any PCI bus address,
including both raw BAR values and DMA addresses. This will be 64 bits
on 64-bit platforms and on platforms with a 64-bit dma_addr_t. Then
dma_addr_t only needs to be wide enough to hold addresses from the DMA API.

A PCIe Port is an interface to a Link. A Root Port is a PCI-PCI bridge in
a Root Complex and has a Link on its secondary (downstream) side. For
other Ports, the Link may be on either the upstream (closer to the Root
Complex) or downstream side of the Port.
The usual topology has a Root Port connected to an Upstream Port. We
previously assumed this was the only possible topology, and that a
Downstream Port's Link was always on its downstream side, like this:
+---------------------+
+------+ | Downstream |
| Root | | Upstream Port +--Link--
| Port +--Link--+ Port |
+------+ | Downstream |
| Port +--Link--
+---------------------+
But systems do exist (see URL below) where the Root Port is connected to a
Downstream Port. In this case, a Downstream Port's Link may be on either
the upstream or downstream side:
+---------------------+
+------+ | Upstream |
| Root | | Downstream Port +--Link--
| Port +--Link--+ Port |
+------+ | Downstream |
| Port +--Link--
+---------------------+
We can't use the Port type to determine which side the Link is on, so add a
bit in struct pci_dev to keep track.
A Root Port's Link is always on the Port's secondary side. A component
(Endpoint or Port) on the other end of the Link obviously has the Link on
its upstream side. If that component is a Port, it is part of a Switch or
a Bridge. A Bridge has a PCI or PCI-X bus on its secondary side, not a
Link. The internal bus of a Switch connects the Port to another Port whose
Link is on the downstream side.

The PCI "ACPI additions for FW latency optimizations" ECN (link below)
defines two functions in the PCI _DSM:
Function 8, "Reset Delay," applies to the entire hierarchy below a PCI
host bridge. If it returns one, the OS may assume that all devices in
the hierarchy have already completed power-on reset delays.
Function 9, "Device Readiness Durations," applies only to the object
where it is located. It returns delay durations required after various
events if the device requires less time than the spec requires. Delays
from this function take precedence over the Reset Delay function.
Add support for Reset Delay and part of Device Readiness Durations.

Per the SR-IOV spec r1.1, sec 3.3.14, the required alignment of a PF's IOV
BAR is the size of an individual VF BAR, and the size consumed is the
individual VF BAR size times NumVFs.
The PowerNV platform has additional alignment requirements to help support
its Partitionable Endpoint device isolation feature (see
Documentation/powerpc/pci_iov_resource_on_powernv.txt).
Add a pcibios_iov_resource_alignment() interface to allow platforms to
request additional alignment.

On PowerNV, some resource reservation is needed for SR-IOV VFs that don't
exist at the bootup stage. To do the match between resources and VFs, the
code need to get the VF's BDF in advance.
Rename virtfn_bus() and virtfn_devfn() to pci_iov_virtfn_bus() and

Currently we don't store the individual VF BAR size. We calculate it when
needed by dividing the PF's IOV resource size (which contains space for
*all* the VFs) by total_VFs or by reading the BAR in the SR-IOV capability
again.
Keep the individual VF BAR size in struct pci_sriov.barsz[], add
pci_iov_resource_size() to retrieve it, and use that instead of doing the
division or reading the SR-IOV capability BAR.

Many PCI controllers' configuration space accesses are memory-mapped and
vary only in address calculation and access checks. There are 2 main
access methods: a decoded address space such as ECAM or a single address
and data register similar to x86. This implementation can support both
cases as well as be used in cases that need additional pre- or post-access
handling.
Add a new pci_ops member, map_bus, which can do access checks and any
necessary setup. It returns the address to use for the configuration space
access. The access types supported are 32-bit only accesses or correct
byte, word, or dword sized accesses.

Per the PCI Power Management spec r1.2, sec 3.2.4, a device that advertises
No_Soft_Reset == 0 in the PMCSR register (reported by lspci as "NoSoftRst-")
should perform an internal reset when transitioning from D3hot to D0 via
software control. Configuration context is lost and the device requires a
full reinitialization sequence.
Unfortunately the definition of "internal reset", beyond the application of
the configuration context, is largely left to the interpretation of the
specific device. Some devices don't seem to perform an "internal reset"
even if they report No_Soft_Reset == 0.
We still need to honor the PCI specification and restore PCI config context
in the event that we do a PM reset, so we don't cache and modify the
PCI_PM_CTRL_NO_SOFT_RESET bit for the device, but for interfaces where the
intention is to reset the device, like pci_reset_function(), we need a
mechanism to flag that PM reset (a D3hot->D0 transition) doesn't perform
any significant "internal reset" of the device.

Add pci_claim_bridge_resource() to claim a PCI-PCI bridge window. This is
like regular pci_claim_resource(), except that if we fail to claim the
window, we check to see if we can reduce the size of the window and try
again.
This is for scenarios like this:
pci_bus 0000:00: root bus resource [mem 0xc0000000-0xffffffff]
pci 0000:00:01.0: bridge window [mem 0xbdf00000-0xddefffff 64bit pref]
pci 0000:01:00.0: reg 0x10: [mem 0xc0000000-0xcfffffff pref]
The 00:01.0 window is illegal: it starts before the host bridge window, so
we have to assume the [0xbdf00000-0xbfffffff] region is inaccessible. We
can make it legal by clipping it to [mem 0xc0000000-0xddefffff 64bit pref].
Previously we discarded the 00:01.0 window and tried to reassign that part
of the hierarchy from scratch. That is a problem because Linux doesn't
always assign things optimally. For example, in this case, BIOS put the
01:00.0 device in a prefetchable window below 4GB, but after 5b28541552,
Linux puts the prefetchable window above 4GB where the 32-bit 01:00.0
device can't use it.
Clipping the 00:01.0 window is less intrusive than completely reassigning
things and is sufficient to let us use most of the BIOS configuration. Of
course, it's possible that devices below 00:01.0 will no longer fit. If
that's the case, we'll have to reassign things. But that's a separate
problem.

Enable a mechanism for devices to quirk that they do not behave when
doing a PCI bus reset. We require a modest level of spec compliant
behavior in order to do a reset, for instance the device should come
out of reset without throwing errors and PCI config space should be
accessible after reset. This is too much to ask for some devices.

"After stopping the full x86/apic branch, I took some time to go
through the first block of patches again, which are mostly cleanups
and preparatory work for the irqdomain conversion and ioapic hotplug
support.
Unfortunaly one of the real problematic commits was right at the
beginning, so I rebased this portion of the pending patches without
the offenders.
It would be great to get this into 3.19. That makes reworking the
problematic parts simpler. The usual tip testing did not unearth any
issues and it is fully bisectible now.
I'm pretty confident that this wont affect the calmness of the xmas
season.
Changes:
- Split the convoluted io_apic.c code into domain specific parts
(vector, ioapic, msi, htirq)
- Introduce proper helper functions to retrieve irq specific data
instead of open coded dereferencing of pointers
- Preparatory work for ioapic hotplug and irqdomain conversion
- Removal of the non functional pci-ioapic driver
- Removal of unused irq entry stubs
- Make native_smp_prepare_cpus() preemtible to avoid GFP_ATOMIC
allocations for everything which is called from there.
- Small cleanups and fixes"

...
To keep balance of IOAPIC pin reference count, we need to protect
pirq_enable_irq(), acpi_pci_irq_enable() and intel_mid_pci_irq_enable()
from reentrance. There are two cases which will cause reentrance.
The first case is caused by suspend/hibernation. If pcibios_disable_irq
is called during suspending/hibernating, we don't release the assigned
IRQ number, otherwise it may break the suspend/hibernation. So late when
pcibios_enable_irq is called during resume, we shouldn't allocate IRQ
number again.
The second case is that function acpi_pci_irq_enable() may be called
twice for PCI devices present at boot time as below:
1) pci_acpi_init()
--> acpi_pci_irq_enable() if pci_routeirq is true
2) pci_enable_device()
--> pcibios_enable_device()
--> acpi_pci_irq_enable()
We can't kill kernel parameter pci_routeirq yet because it's still
needed for debugging purpose.
So flag irq_managed is introduced to track whether IRQ number is
assigned by OS and to protect pirq_enable_irq(), acpi_pci_irq_enable()
and intel_mid_pci_irq_enable() from reentrance.

Pull irq domain updates from Thomas Gleixner:
"The real interesting irq updates:
- Support for hierarchical irq domains:
For complex interrupt routing scenarios where more than one
interrupt related chip is involved we had no proper representation
in the generic interrupt infrastructure so far. That made people
implement rather ugly constructs in their nested irq chip
implementations. The main offenders are x86 and arm/gic.
To distangle that mess we have now hierarchical irqdomains which
seperate the various interrupt chips and connect them via the
hierarchical domains. That keeps the domain specific details
internal to the particular hierarchy level and removes the
criss/cross referencing of chip internals. The resulting hierarchy
for a complex x86 system will look like this:
vector mapped: 74
msi-0 mapped: 2
dmar-ir-1 mapped: 69
ioapic-1 mapped: 4
ioapic-0 mapped: 20
pci-msi-2 mapped: 45
dmar-ir-0 mapped: 3
ioapic-2 mapped: 1
pci-msi-1 mapped: 2
htirq mapped: 0
Neither ioapic nor pci-msi know about the dmar interrupt remapping
between themself and the vector domain. If interrupt remapping is
disabled ioapic and pci-msi become direct childs of the vector
domain.
In hindsight we should have done that years ago, but in hindsight
we always know better :)
- Support for generic MSI interrupt domain handling
We have more and more non PCI related MSI interrupts, so providing
a generic infrastructure for this is better than having all
affected architectures implementing their own private hacks.
- Support for PCI-MSI interrupt domain handling, based on the generic
MSI support.
This part carries the pci/msi branch from Bjorn Helgaas pci tree to
avoid a massive conflict. The PCI/MSI parts are acked by Bjorn.
I have two more branches on top of this. The full conversion of x86
to hierarchical domains and a partial conversion of arm/gic"

Add pci_get_new_domain_nr() to allocate a new domain number and
of_get_pci_domain_nr() to retrieve the PCI domain number of a given device
from DT. Host bridge drivers or architecture-specific code can choose to
implement their PCI domain number policy using these two functions.
Using of_get_pci_domain_nr() guarantees a stable PCI domain number on every
boot provided that all host bridge controllers are assigned a number in the
device tree using "linux,pci-domain" property. Mixing use of
pci_get_new_domain_nr() and of_get_pci_domain_nr() is not recommended as it

The handling of PCI domains (or PCI segments in ACPI speak) is usually a
straightforward affair but its implementation is currently left to the
architectural code, with pci_domain_nr(b) querying the value of the domain
associated with bus b.
This patch introduces CONFIG_PCI_DOMAINS_GENERIC as an option that can be
selected if an architecture wants a simple implementation where the value
of the domain associated with a bus is stored in struct pci_bus.
The architectures that select CONFIG_PCI_DOMAINS_GENERIC will then have to
implement pci_bus_assign_domain_nr() as a way of setting the domain number
associated with a root bus. All child buses except the root bus will
inherit the domain_nr value from their parent.

Powering off a hot-pluggable device, e.g., with pci_set_power_state(D3cold),
normally generates a hot-remove event that unbinds the driver.
Some drivers expect to remain bound to a device even while they power it
off and back on again. This can be dangerous, because if the device is
removed or replaced while it is powered off, the driver doesn't know that
anything changed. But some drivers accept that risk.
Add pci_ignore_hotplug() for use by drivers that know their device cannot
be removed. Using pci_ignore_hotplug() tells the PCI core that hot-plug
events for the device should be ignored.
The radeon and nouveau drivers use this to switch between a low-power,
integrated GPU and a higher-power, higher-performance discrete GPU. They
power off the unused GPU, but they want to remain bound to it.
This is a reimplementation of f244d8b623 ("ACPIPHP / radeon / nouveau:

PCI: Introduce new device binding path using pci_dev.driver_override
Conflicts:
drivers/pci/pci-sysfs.c
The driver_override field allows us to specify the driver for a device
rather than relying on the driver to provide a positive match of the
device. This shortcuts the existing process of looking up the vendor and
device ID, adding them to the driver new_id, binding the device, then
removing the ID, but it also provides a couple advantages.
First, the above existing process allows the driver to bind to any device
matching the new_id for the window where it's enabled. This is often not
desired, such as the case of trying to bind a single device to a meta
driver like pci-stub or vfio-pci. Using driver_override we can do this
deterministically using:
echo pci-stub > /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:03:00.0/driver_override
echo 0000:03:00.0 > /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:03:00.0/driver/unbind
echo 0000:03:00.0 > /sys/bus/pci/drivers_probe
Previously we could not invoke drivers_probe after adding a device to
new_id for a driver as we get non-deterministic behavior whether the driver
we intend or the standard driver will claim the device. Now it becomes a
deterministic process, only the driver matching driver_override will probe
the device.
To return the device to the standard driver, we simply clear the
driver_override and reprobe the device:
echo > /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:03:00.0/driver_override
echo 0000:03:00.0 > /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:03:00.0/driver/unbind
echo 0000:03:00.0 > /sys/bus/pci/drivers_probe
Another advantage to this approach is that we can specify a driver override
to force a specific binding or prevent any binding. For instance when an
IOMMU group is exposed to userspace through VFIO we require that all
devices within that group are owned by VFIO. However, devices can be
hot-added into an IOMMU group, in which case we want to prevent the device
from binding to any driver (override driver = "none") or perhaps have it
automatically bind to vfio-pci. With driver_override it's a simple matter
for this field to be set internally when the device is first discovered to
prevent driver matches.

Several PCIe-to-PCI bridges fail to provide a PCIe capability, causing us
to handle them as conventional PCI devices when they really use the
requester ID of the secondary bus. We need to differentiate these from
PCIe-to-PCI bridges that actually use the conventional PCI ID when a PCIe
capability is not present, such as those found on the root complex of may

In a mixed PCI/PCI-X/PCIe topology, bridges can take ownership of
transactions, replacing the original requester ID with their own.
Sometimes we just want to know the resulting device or resulting alias;
other times we want each step in the chain. This iterator allows either
usage. When an endpoint is connected via an unbroken chain of PCIe
switches and root ports, it has no alias and its requester ID is visible to
the root bus. When PCI/X get in the way, we pick up aliases for bridges.
The reason why we potentially care about each step in the path is because
of PCI-X. PCI-X has the concept of a requester ID, but bridges may or may
not take ownership of various types of transactions. We therefore leave it
to the consumer of this function to prune out what they don't care about
rather than attempt to flatten the alias ourselves.

There are no users of pci_enable_msi_block() function left. Obsolete it in
favor of pci_enable_msi_range() and pci_enable_msi_exact() functions.
Previously, we called arch_setup_msi_irqs() once, requesting the same
vector count we passed to arch_msi_check_device(). Now we may call it
several times: if it returns failure, we may retry and request fewer
vectors.
We don't keep track of the vector count we initially passed to
arch_msi_check_device(). We only keep track of the number of vectors
successfully set up by arch_setup_msi_irqs(), and this is what we use to
clean things up when disabling MSI. Therefore, we assume that
arch_msi_check_device() does nothing that will have to be cleaned up later.

When doing a function/slot/bus reset PCI grabs the device_lock for each
device to block things like suspend and driver probes, but call paths exist
where this lock may already be held. This creates an opportunity for
deadlock. For instance, vfio allows userspace to issue resets so long as
it owns the device(s). If a driver unbind .remove callback races with
userspace issuing a reset, we have a deadlock as userspace gets stuck
waiting on device_lock while another thread has device_lock and waits for
.remove to complete. To resolve this, we can make a version of the reset
interfaces which use trylock. With this, we can safely attempt a reset and
return error to userspace if there is contention.
[bhelgaas: the deadlock happens when A (userspace) has a file descriptor for
the device, and B waits in this path:
driver_detach
device_lock # take device_lock
__device_release_driver
pci_device_remove # pci_bus_type.remove
vfio_pci_remove # pci_driver .remove
vfio_del_group_dev
wait_event(vfio.release_q, !vfio_dev_present) # wait (holding device_lock)
Now B is stuck until A gives up the file descriptor. If A tries to acquire
device_lock for any reason, we deadlock because A is waiting for B to release
the lock, and B is waiting for A to release the file descriptor.]

There are multiple PCI device addition and removal code paths that may be
run concurrently with the generic PCI bus rescan and device removal that
can be triggered via sysfs. If that happens, it may lead to multiple
different, potentially dangerous race conditions.
The most straightforward way to address those problems is to run
the code in question under the same lock that is used by the
generic rescan/remove code in pci-sysfs.c. To prepare for those
changes, move the definition of the global PCI remove/rescan lock
to probe.c and provide global wrappers, pci_lock_rescan_remove()
and pci_unlock_rescan_remove(), allowing drivers to manipulate
that lock. Also provide pci_stop_and_remove_bus_device_locked()
for the callers of pci_stop_and_remove_bus_device() who only need
to hold the rescan/remove lock around it.

When allocating space for 32-bit BARs, we previously limited RESOURCE
addresses so they would fit in 32 bits. However, the BUS address need not
be the same as the resource address, and it's the bus address that must fit
in the 32-bit BAR.
This patch adds:
- pci_clip_resource_to_region(), which clips a resource so it contains
only the range that maps to the specified bus address region, e.g., to
clip a resource to 32-bit bus addresses, and
- pci_bus_alloc_from_region(), which allocates space for a resource from
the specified bus address region,
and changes pci_bus_alloc_resource() to allocate space for 64-bit BARs from
the entire bus address region, and space for 32-bit BARs from only the bus
address region below 4GB.
If we had this window:
pci_root HWP0002:0a: host bridge window [mem 0xf0180000000-0xf01fedfffff] (bus address [0x80000000-0xfedfffff])
we previously could not put a 32-bit BAR there, because the CPU addresses
don't fit in 32 bits. This patch fixes this, so we can use this space for
32-bit BARs.
It's also possible (though unlikely) to have resources with 32-bit CPU
addresses but bus addresses above 4GB. In this case the previous code
would allocate space that a 32-bit BAR could not map.
Remove PCIBIOS_MAX_MEM_32, which is no longer used.

This adds pci_enable_msi_range(), which supersedes the pci_enable_msi()
and pci_enable_msi_block() MSI interfaces.
It also adds pci_enable_msix_range(), which supersedes the
pci_enable_msix() MSI-X interface.
The old interfaces have three categories of return values:
negative: failure; caller should not retry
positive: failure; value indicates number of interrupts that *could*
have been allocated, and caller may retry with a smaller request
zero: success; at least as many interrupts allocated as requested
It is error-prone to handle these three cases correctly in drivers.
The new functions return either a negative error code or a number of
successfully allocated MSI/MSI-X interrupts, which is expected to lead to
clearer device driver code.
pci_enable_msi(), pci_enable_msi_block() and pci_enable_msix() still exist
unchanged, but are deprecated and may be removed after callers are updated.

pci_msix_vec_count() supersedes pci_msix_table_size() and returns a

We store BAR information as a struct resource, which contains the CPU
address, not the bus address. Drivers often need the bus address, and
there's currently no convenient way to get it, so they often read the
BAR directly, or use the resource address (which doesn't work if there's
any translation between CPU and bus addresses).

pcibios_resource_to_bus(struct pci_dev *dev, *bus_region, *resource)
pcibios_bus_to_resource(struct pci_dev *dev, *resource, *bus_region)
took a pci_dev, but they really depend only on the pci_bus. And we want to
use them in resource allocation paths where we have the bus but not a
device, so this patch converts them to take the pci_bus instead of the
pci_dev:
pcibios_resource_to_bus(struct pci_bus *bus, *bus_region, *resource)
pcibios_bus_to_resource(struct pci_bus *bus, *resource, *bus_region)
In fact, with standard PCI-PCI bridges, they only depend on the host

While we don't really have any infrastructure for making use of VC
support, the system BIOS can configure the topology to non-default
VC values prior to boot. This may be due to silicon bugs, desire to
reserve traffic classes, or perhaps just BIOS bugs. When we reset
devices, the VC configuration may return to default values, which can
be incompatible with devices upstream. For instance, Nvidia GRID
cards provide a PCIe switch and some number of GPUs, all supporting
VC. The power-on default for VC is to support TC0-7 across VC0,
however some platforms will only enable TC0/VC0 mapping across the
topology. When we do a secondary bus reset on the downstream switch
port, the GPU is reset to a TC0-7/VC0 mapping while the opposite end
of the link only enables TC0/VC0. If the GPU attempts to use TC1-7,
it fails.
This patch attempts to provide complete support for VC save/restore,

Modify tg3_chip_reset() and tg3_close() to check if the PCI network
adapter device is accessible at all in order to skip poking it or
trying to handle a carrier loss in vain when that's not the case.
Introduce a special PCI helper function pci_device_is_present()
for this purpose.
Of course, this uncovers the lack of the appropriate RTNL locking
in tg3_suspend() and tg3_resume(), so add that locking in there
too.
These changes prevent tg3 from burning a CPU at 100% load level for
solid several seconds after the Thunderbolt link is disconnected from
a Matrox DS1 docking station.

This branch contains mostly additions and changes to platform enablement
and SoC-level drivers. Since there's sometimes a dependency on device-tree
changes, there's also a fair amount of those in this branch.
Pieces worth mentioning are:
- Mbus driver for Marvell platforms, allowing kernel configuration
and resource allocation of on-chip peripherals.
- Enablement of the mbus infrastructure from Marvell PCI-e drivers.
- Preparation of MSI support for Marvell platforms.
- Addition of new PCI-e host controller driver for Tegra platforms
- Some churn caused by sharing of macro names between i.MX 6Q and 6DL
platforms in the device tree sources and header files.
- Various suspend/PM updates for Tegra, including LP1 support.
- Versatile Express support for MCPM, part of big little support.
- Allwinner platform support for A20 and A31 SoCs (dual and quad Cortex-A7)
- OMAP2+ support for DRA7, a new Cortex-A15-based SoC.
The code that touches other architectures are patches moving
MSI arch-specific functions over to weak symbols and removal of
ARCH_SUPPORTS_MSI, acked by PCI maintainers.

Based on a patch by Jon Mason (see URL below).
All users of pcie_bus_configure_settings() pass arguments of the form
"bus, bus->self->pcie_mpss". The "mpss" argument is redundant since we
can easily look it up internally. In addition, all callers check
"bus->self" for NULL, which we can also do internally.
This patch simplifies the interface and the callers. No functional change.

Users of pci_reset_bus() and pci_reset_slot() need a way to probe
whether the bus or slot supports reset. Add trivial helper functions
and export them as vfio-pci will make use of these.

Sometimes pci_reset_function() is not sufficient. We have cases where
devices do not support any kind of reset, but there might be multiple
functions on the bus preventing pci_reset_function() from doing a
secondary bus reset. We also have cases where a device will advertise
that it supports a PM reset, but really does nothing on D3hot->D0
(graphics cards are notorious for this). These devices often also
have more than one function, so even blacklisting PM reset for them
wouldn't allow a secondary bus reset through pci_reset_function().
If a driver supports multiple devices it should have the ability to
induce a bus reset when it needs to. This patch provides that ability
through pci_reset_slot() and pci_reset_bus(). It's the caller's
responsibility when using these interfaces to understand that all of
the devices in or below the slot (or on or below the bus) will be
reset and therefore should be under control of the caller. PCI state
of all the affected devices is saved and restored around these resets,
but internal state of all of the affected devices is reset (which
should be the intention).

The new struct msi_chip is used to associated an MSI controller with a
PCI bus. It is automatically handed down from the root to its children
during bus enumeration.
This patch provides default (weak) implementations for the architecture-
specific MSI functions (arch_setup_msi_irq(), arch_teardown_msi_irq()
and arch_msi_check_device()) which check if a PCI device's bus has an
attached MSI chip and forward the call appropriately.

A PCI Express device can potentially report a link width and speed which it will
not properly fulfill due to being plugged into a slower link higher in the

When hot-adding an ACPI host bridge, use

The former is more aggressive and will release and reassign existing

We currently enable PCI bridges after scanning a bus and assigning
resources. This is often done in arch code.
This patch changes this so we don't enable a bridge until necessary, i.e.,
until we enable a PCI device behind the bridge. We do this in the generic
pci_enable_device() path, so this also removes the arch-specific code to
enable bridges.

Here we introduce a new interface to replace alloc_pci_dev():
struct pci_dev *pci_alloc_dev(struct pci_bus *bus)
It takes a "struct pci_bus *" argument, so we can alloc a PCI device
on a target PCI bus, and it acquires a reference on the pci_bus.
We use pci_alloc_dev(NULL) to simplify the old alloc_pci_dev(),
and keep it for a while but mark it as __deprecated.
Holding a reference to the pci_bus ensures that referencing
pci_dev->bus is valid as long as the pci_dev is valid.

PCI: Cache MSI/MSI-X capability offsets in struct pci_dev
PCI: Use u8, not int, for PM capability offset

The patch caches the MSI and MSI-X capability offset in PCI device
(struct pci_dev) so that we needn't read it from the config space
upon enabling or disabling MSI or MSI-X interrupts.

The Power Management Capability (PCI_CAP_ID_PM == 0x01) is defined by PCI
and must appear in the 256-byte PCI Configuration Space from 0-0xff. It
cannot be in the PCIe Extended Configuration space from 0x100-0xfff, so
we only need a u8 to hold its offset.

On ACPI-based platforms, the pci_slot driver creates PCI slot devices
according to information from ACPI tables by registering an ACPI PCI
subdriver. The ACPI PCI subdriver will only be called when creating/
destroying PCI root buses, and it won't be called when hot-plugging
P2P bridges. It may cause stale PCI slot devices after hot-removing
a P2P bridge if that bridge has associated PCI slots. And the acpiphp
driver has the same issue too.
This patch introduces two hook points into the PCI core, which will
be invoked when creating/destroying PCI buses for PCI host and P2P
bridges. They could be used to setup/destroy platform dependent stuff
in a unified way, both at boot time and for PCI hotplug operations.

The __weak annotation on the pcibios_get_phb_of_node() declaration
causes *every* definition to be marked "weak." The linker then
selects one based on link order, which may be the wrong one.
Gabor found that on MIPS, the linker selected the generic implementation
from drivers/pci even though arch/mips supplied a definition without the
__weak annotation:
$ mipsel-openwrt-linux-readelf -s arch/mips/pci/built-in.o \
drivers/pci/built-in.o vmlinux.o | grep pcibios_get_phb_of_node
86: 0000046c 12 FUNC WEAK DEFAULT 2 pcibios_get_phb_of_node

31898: 0017e4ec 104 FUNC WEAK DEFAULT 2 pcibios_get_phb_of_node
This removes the __weak annotation from the pcibios_get_phb_of_node()
declaration so arch-specific non-weak implementations work reliably.

It turns out that some UEFI systems provide apparently an apparently valid
PCI ROM BAR that turns out to contain garbage, so the attempt in 547b52463
to prefer the ROM from the BAR actually breaks a different set of machines.
As Linus pointed out, the graphics drivers are probably in the best
position to make this judgement, so this basically reverts 547b52463 and
f9a37be0f and adds a new helper function. Followup patches will add support
to nouveau and radeon for probing this ROM source if they can't find a ROM
from some other source.

PCI defines PCI_DEVFN(), PCI_SLOT(), and PCI_FUNC() interfaces; however,
it doesn't have interfaces to return PCI bus and PCI device id. Drivers
(AMD IOMMU, and AER) implement module specific definitions for PCI_BUS()
and AMD_IOMMU driver also has a module specific interface to calculate PCI
device id from bus number and devfn.
Add PCI_BUS_NUM and PCI_DEVID interfaces to return PCI bus number and PCI
device id respectively to avoid the need for duplicate definitions in other
modules. AER driver code and AMD IOMMU driver define PCI_BUS. AMD IOMMU
driver defines an interface to calculate device id from bus number, and
devfn pair.
PCI_DEVFN(), PCI_SLOT(), and PCI_FUNC() interfaces are exported to
user-space via uapi/linux/pci.h. However, in the interest to keep the new
interfaces as kernel only and not export them to user-space unnecessarily,
added them to linux/pci.h instead.

We want to add PCI devices to the device tree as early as possible but
delay attaching drivers.
device_add() adds a device to the device hierarchy and (via
device_attach()) attaches a matching driver and calls its .probe() method.
We want to separate adding the device to the hierarchy from attaching the
driver.
This patch does that by adding "match_driver" in struct pci_dev. When
false, we return failure from pci_bus_match(), which makes device_attach()
believe there's no matching driver.
Later, we set "match_driver = true" and call device_attach() again, which
now attaches the driver and calls its .probe() method.

The new function pci_enable_msi_block_auto() tries to allocate
maximum possible number of MSIs up to the number the device
supports. It generalizes a pattern when pci_enable_msi_block()
is contiguously called until it succeeds or fails.
Opposite to pci_enable_msi_block() which takes the number of
MSIs to allocate as a input parameter,
pci_enable_msi_block_auto() could be used by device drivers to
obtain the number of assigned MSIs and the number of MSIs the
device supports.

The ACPI handles of PCI root bridges need to be known to
acpi_bind_one(), so that it can create the appropriate
"firmware_node" and "physical_node" files for them, but currently
the way it gets to know those handles is not exactly straightforward
(to put it lightly).
This is how it works, roughly:
1. acpi_bus_scan() finds the handle of a PCI root bridge,
creates a struct acpi_device object for it and passes that
object to acpi_pci_root_add().
2. acpi_pci_root_add() creates a struct acpi_pci_root object,
populates its "device" field with its argument's address
(device->handle is the ACPI handle found in step 1).
3. The struct acpi_pci_root object created in step 2 is passed
to pci_acpi_scan_root() and used to get resources that are
passed to pci_create_root_bus().
4. pci_create_root_bus() creates a struct pci_host_bridge object
and passes its "dev" member to device_register().
5. platform_notify(), which for systems with ACPI is set to
acpi_platform_notify(), is called.
So far, so good. Now it starts to be "interesting".
6. acpi_find_bridge_device() is used to find the ACPI handle of
the given device (which is the PCI root bridge) and executes
acpi_pci_find_root_bridge(), among other things, for the
given device object.
7. acpi_pci_find_root_bridge() uses the name (sic!) of the given
device object to extract the segment and bus numbers of the PCI
root bridge and passes them to acpi_get_pci_rootbridge_handle().
8. acpi_get_pci_rootbridge_handle() browses the list of ACPI PCI
root bridges and finds the one that matches the given segment
and bus numbers. Its handle is then used to initialize the
ACPI handle of the PCI root bridge's device object by
acpi_bind_one(). However, this is *exactly* the ACPI handle we
started with in step 1.
Needless to say, this is quite embarassing, but it may be avoided
thanks to commit f3fd0c8 (ACPI: Allow ACPI handles of devices to be
initialized in advance), which makes it possible to initialize the
ACPI handle of a device before passing it to device_register().
Accordingly, add a new __weak routine, pcibios_root_bridge_prepare(),
defaulting to an empty implementation that can be replaced by the
interested architecutres (x86 and ia64 at the moment) with functions
that will set the root bridge's ACPI handle before its dev member is
passed to device_register(). Make both x86 and ia64 provide such
implementations of pcibios_root_bridge_prepare() and remove
acpi_pci_find_root_bridge() and acpi_get_pci_rootbridge_handle() that
aren't necessary any more.
Included is a fix for breakage on systems with non-ACPI PCI host
bridges from Bjorn Helgaas.
