Christian König a64f784bb1 drm/ttm: initialize globals during device init (v2)
Make sure that the global BO state is always correctly initialized.

This allows removing all the device code to initialize it.

Christian König 27eb1fa913 drm/ttm: use a static ttm_mem_global instance
As the name says we only need one global instance of ttm_mem_global.

Drop all the driver initialization and just use a single exported
instance which is initialized during BO global initialization.

Thomas Zimmermann e55a5c9b5f drm/ttm: Rename ttm_bo_global_{init,release}() to ttm_bo_global_ref_{,}()
The functions ttm_bo_global_init() and ttm_bo_global_release() do not
receive an argument of type struct ttm_bo_global. Both take a struct
drm_global_reference that contains points to a struct ttm_bo_global_ref.
Renaming them reflects this.

Thomas Zimmermann c932c4f831 drm/hisilicon: Replace ttm_bo_unref with ttm_bo_put
The function ttm_bo_put releases a reference to a TTM buffer object. The
function's name is more aligned to the Linux kernel convention of naming
ref-counting function _get and _put.

A call to ttm_bo_unref takes the address of the TTM BO object's pointer and
clears the pointer's value to NULL. This is not necessary in most cases and
sometimes even worked around by the calling code. A call to ttm_bo_put only
releases the reference without clearing the pointer.

The current behaviour of cleaning the pointer is kept in the calling code,
but should be removed if not required in a later patch.

John Garry 0ff9f49646 drm/hisilicon: hibmc: Don't overwrite fb helper surface depth
Currently the driver overwrites the surface depth provided by the fb
helper to give an invalid bpp/surface depth combination.

This has been exposed by commit 70109354fe ("drm: Reject unknown legacy
bpp and depth for drm_mode_addfb ioctl"), which now causes the driver to
fail to probe.

Fix by not overwriting the surface depth.

John Stultz 71f23543d3 drm: kirin: Add mode_valid logic to avoid mode clocks we can't generate
Currently the hikey dsi logic cannot generate accurate byte
clocks values for all pixel clock values. Thus if a mode clock
is selected that cannot match the calculated byte clock, the
device will boot with a blank screen.

This patch uses the new mode_valid callback (many thanks to
Jose Abreu for upstreaming it!) to ensure we don't select
modes we cannot generate.

Also, since the ade crtc code will adjust the mode in mode_set,
this patch also adds a mode_fixup callback which we use to make
sure we are validating the mode clock that will eventually be
used.

Daniel Vetter 7d902c05b4 drm: Nuke drm_atomic_helper_connector_dpms
It's dead code, the core handles all this directly now.

The only special case is nouveau and tda988x which used one function
for both legacy modeset code and -nv50 atomic world instead of 2
vtables. But amounts to exactly the same.

v2: Rebase over the panel/brideg refactorings in stm/ltdc.

Ben Widawsky e6fc3b6855 drm: Plumb modifiers through plane init
This is the plumbing for supporting fb modifiers on planes. Modifiers
have already been introduced to some extent, but this series will extend
this to allow querying modifiers per plane. Based on this, the client to
enable optimal modifications for framebuffers.

This patch simply allows the DRM drivers to initialize their list of
supported modifiers upon initializing the plane.

Arnd Bergmann 8bb9777332 drm/hisilicon: fix build error without fbdev emulation
We cannot reference priv->fbdev outside of the #ifdef:

drivers/net/virtio_net.c:1881:12: error: 'virtnet_restore_up' defined but not used [-Werror=unused-function]
 static int virtnet_restore_up(struct virtio_device *vdev)
drivers/net/virtio_net.c:1859:13: error: 'virtnet_freeze_down' defined but not used [-Werror=unused-function]
 static void virtnet_freeze_down(struct virtio_device *vdev)

As the #ifdef is a bit annoying here, this removes it entirely
and uses an IS_ENABLED() check in it place where needed.

Daniel Vetter e1923ab3d0 drm/<drivers>: Drop fbdev info flags
- FBINFO_CAN_FORCE_OUTPUT has been a lie ever since we nerfed&removed
the entire panic handling code in our fbdev emulation. We might
restore kms panic output, but not through the bazillion of legacy
code layers called fbdev/fbcon, there's just no way to make that
  work safely.

- With the module check change FBINFO_DEFAULT is always 0, so can be
  removed too.

That removes another change to cargo-cult stuff in kms drivers, yay!

Rob Herring ebc9446135 drm: convert drivers to use drm_of_find_panel_or_bridge
Similar to the previous commit, convert drivers open coding OF graph
parsing to use drm_of_find_panel_or_bridge instead.

This changes some error messages to debug messages (in the graph core).
Graph connections are often "no connects" depending on the particular
board, so we want to avoid spurious messages. Plus the kernel is not a
DT validator.

Rob Herring 86418f90a4 drm: convert drivers to use of_graph_get_remote_node
Convert drivers to use the new of_graph_get_remote_node() helper
instead of parsing the endpoint node and then getting the remote device
node. Now drivers can just specify the device node and which
port/endpoint and get back the connected remote device node. The details
of the graph binding are nicely abstracted into the core OF graph code.

This changes some error messages to debug messages (in the graph core).
Graph connections are often "no connects" depending on the particular
board, so we want to avoid spurious messages. Plus the kernel is not a
DT validator.

Daniel Vetter d55f7e5d54 drm: Create DEFINE_DRM_GEM_CMA_FOPS and roll it out to drivers
Less code ftw.

This converts all drivers except the tinydrm helper module. That one
needs more work, since it gets the THIS_MODULE reference from
tinydrm.ko instead of the actual driver module like it should.
Probably needs a similar trick like I used here with generating the
entire struct with a macro.

Shawn Guo d4f6750f9b drm: kirin: use vblank hooks in struct drm_crtc_funcs
The vblank hooks in struct drm_driver are deprecated and only meant for

Shawn Guo 967dd48417 drm: remove drm_vblank_no_hw_counter assignment from driver code
Core code already makes drm_driver.get_vblank_counter hook optional by
letting drm_vblank_no_hw_counter be the default implementation for the
function hook. So the drm_vblank_no_hw_counter assignment in the driver
code becomes redundant and can be removed now.
