Mark Rutland 94bbc9c1a0 locking/atomics, samples/mic/mpssd/mpssd.c: Convert ACCESS_ONCE() to READ_ONCE()/WRITE_ONCE()
For several reasons, it is desirable to use {READ,WRITE}_ONCE() in
preference to ACCESS_ONCE(), and new code is expected to use one of the
former. So far, there's been no reason to change most existing uses of
ACCESS_ONCE(), as these aren't currently harmful.

However, for some features it is necessary to instrument reads and
writes separately, which is not possible with ACCESS_ONCE(). This
distinction is critical to correct operation.

The bulk of the kernel code can be transformed via Coccinelle to use
{READ,WRITE}_ONCE(), though this only modifies users of ACCESS_ONCE(),
and not the implementation itself. As such, it has the potential to
break homebrew ACCESS_ONCE() macros seen in some user code in the kernel
tree (e.g. the virtio code, as fixed in commit ea9156fb3b).

To avoid fragility if/when that transformation occurs, and to align with
the preferred usage of {READ,WRITE}_ONCE(), this patch updates the MPSSD
sample code to use READ_ONCE() rather than ACCESS_ONCE(). There should
be no functional change as a result of this patch.

David S. Miller f8ddadc4db Merge git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/davem/net
There were quite a few overlapping sets of changes here.

Daniel's bug fix for off-by-ones in the new BPF branch instructions,
along with the added allowances for "data_end > ptr + x" forms
collided with the metadata additions.

Along with those three changes came veritifer test cases, which in
their final form I tried to group together properly. If I had just
trimmed GIT's conflict tags as-is, this would have split up the
meta tests unnecessarily.

In the socketmap code, a set of preemption disabling changes
overlapped with the rename of bpf_compute_data_end() to
bpf_compute_data_pointers().

Changes were made to the mv88e6060.c driver set addr method
which got removed in net-next.

The hyperv transport socket layer had a locking change in 'net'
which overlapped with a change of socket state macro usage
in 'net-next'.

John Fastabend 34f79502bb bpf: avoid preempt enable/disable in sockmap using tcp_skb_cb region
SK_SKB BPF programs are run from the socket/tcp context but early in
the stack before much of the TCP metadata is needed in tcp_skb_cb. So
we can use some unused fields to place BPF metadata needed for SK_SKB
programs when implementing the redirect function.

This allows us to drop the preempt disable logic. It does however
require an API change so sk_redirect_map() has been updated to
additionally provide ctx_ptr to skb. Note, we do however continue to
disable/enable preemption around actual BPF program running to account
for map updates.

Joe Lawrence 93862e385d livepatch: add (un)patch callbacks
Provide livepatch modules a klp_object (un)patching notification
mechanism. Pre and post-(un)patch callbacks allow livepatch modules to
setup or synchronize changes that would be difficult to support in only
patched-or-unpatched code contexts.

Callbacks can be registered for target module or vmlinux klp_objects,
but each implementation is klp_object specific.

  - Pre-(un)patch callbacks run before any (un)patching transition
    starts.

  - Post-(un)patch callbacks run once an object has been (un)patched and
    the klp_patch fully transitioned to its target state.

Example use cases include modification of global data and registration
of newly available services/handlers.

See Documentation/livepatch/callbacks.txt for details and
samples/livepatch/ for examples.

Jesper Dangaard Brouer fad3917e36 samples/bpf: add cpumap sample program xdp_redirect_cpu
This sample program show how to use cpumap and the associated
tracepoints.

It provides command line stats, which shows how the XDP-RX process,
cpumap-enqueue and cpumap kthread dequeue is cooperating on a per CPU
basis. It also utilize the xdp_exception and xdp_redirect_err
transpoints to allow users quickly to identify setup issues.

One issue with ixgbe driver is that the driver reset the link when
loading XDP. This reset the procfs smp_affinity settings. Thus,
after loading the program, these must be reconfigured. The easiest
workaround it to reduce the RX-queue to e.g. two via:

 # ethtool --set-channels ixgbe1 combined 2

And then add CPUs above 0 and 1, like:

 # xdp_redirect_cpu --dev ixgbe1 --prog 2 --cpu 2 --cpu 3 --cpu 4

Another issue with ixgbe is that the page recycle mechanism is tied to
the RX-ring size. And the default setting of 512 elements is too
small. This is the same issue with regular devmap XDP_REDIRECT.
To overcome this I've been using 1024 rx-ring size:

 # ethtool -G ixgbe1 rx 1024 tx 1024

V3:
 - whitespace cleanups
 - bpf tracepoint cannot access top part of struct

V4:
 - report on kthread sched events, according to tracepoint change
 - report average bulk enqueue size

V5:
 - bpf_map_lookup_elem on cpumap not allowed from bpf_prog
   use separate map to mark CPUs not available

V6:
 - correct kthread sched summary output

V7:
 - Added a --stress-mode for concurrently changing underlying cpumap

Linus Torvalds 503f7e297d Testing a new trace event format, I triggered a bug by doing:
# modprobe trace-events-sample
   # echo 1 > /sys/kernel/debug/tracing/events/sample-trace/enable
   # rmmod trace-events-sample

 This would cause an oops. The issue is that I added another trace
 event sample that reused a reg function of another trace event to
 create a thread to call the tracepoints. The problem was that the
 reg function couldn't handle nested calls (reg; reg; unreg; unreg;)
 and created two threads (instead of one) and only removed one
 on exit.

 This isn't a critical bug as the bug is only in sample code. But sample
 code should be free of known bugs to prevent others from copying
 it. This is why this is also marked for stable.

Steven Rostedt (VMware) 6575257c60 tracing/samples: Fix creation and deletion of simple_thread_fn creation
Commit 7496946a8 ("tracing: Add samples of DECLARE_EVENT_CLASS() and
DEFINE_EVENT()") added template examples for all the events. It created a
DEFINE_EVENT_FN() example which reused the foo_bar_reg and foo_bar_unreg
functions.

Enabling both the TRACE_EVENT_FN() and DEFINE_EVENT_FN() example trace
events caused the foo_bar_reg to be called twice, creating the test thread
twice. The foo_bar_unreg would remove it only once, even if it was called
multiple times, leaving a thread existing when the module is unloaded,
causing an oops.

Add a ref count and allow foo_bar_reg() and foo_bar_unreg() be called by
multiple trace events.

Also monitor the tracepoint xdp_exception. This tracepoint is usually
invoked by the drivers. Programs themselves can activate this by
returning XDP_ABORTED, which will drop the packet but also trigger the
tracepoint. This is useful for distinguishing intentional (XDP_DROP)
vs. ebpf-program error cases that cased a drop (XDP_ABORTED).

Drivers also use this tracepoint for reporting on XDP actions that are

This patch extends the libbpf to provide API support to
allow specifying BPF object name.

In tools/lib/bpf/libbpf, the C symbol of the function
and the map is used. Regarding section name, all maps are
under the same section named "maps". Hence, section name
is not a good choice for map's name. To be consistent with
map, bpf_prog also follows and uses its function symbol as
the prog's name.

This patch adds logic to collect function's symbols in libbpf.
There is existing codes to collect the map's symbols and no change
is needed.

The bpf_load_program_name() and bpf_map_create_name() are
added to take the name argument. For the other bpf_map_create_xxx()
variants, a name argument is directly added to them.

In samples/bpf, bpf_load.c in particular, the symbol is also
used as the map's name and the map symbols has already been
collected in the existing code. For bpf_prog, bpf_load.c does
not collect the function symbol name. We can consider to collect
them later if there is a need to continue supporting the bpf_load.c.

Joel Fernandes b655fc1c2e samples/bpf: Fix pt_regs issues when cross-compiling
BPF samples fail to build when cross-compiling for ARM64 because of incorrect
pt_regs param selection. This is because clang defines __x86_64__ and
bpf_headers thinks we're building for x86. Since clang is building for the BPF
target, it shouldn't make assumptions about what target the BPF program is
going to run on. To fix this, lets pass ARCH so the header knows which target
the BPF program is being compiled for and can use the correct pt_regs code.

Joe Lawrence 439e7271dc livepatch: introduce shadow variable API
Add exported API for livepatch modules:

  klp_shadow_get()
  klp_shadow_alloc()
  klp_shadow_get_or_alloc()
  klp_shadow_free()
  klp_shadow_free_all()

that implement "shadow" variables, which allow callers to associate new
shadow fields to existing data structures. This is intended to be used
by livepatch modules seeking to emulate additions to data structure
definitions.

See Documentation/livepatch/shadow-vars.txt for a summary of the new
shadow variable API, including a few common use cases.

See samples/livepatch/livepatch-shadow-* for example modules that

Pull media updates from Mauro Carvalho Chehab:
 "Brazil's Independence Day pull request :-)

  This is one of the biggest media pull requests, with 625 patches
  affecting almost all parts of media (RC, DVB, V4L2, CEC, docs).

  This contains:

   - A lot of new drivers:
     * DVB frontends: mxl5xx, stv0910, stv6111;
     * camera flash: as3645a led driver;
     * HDMI receiver: adv748X;
     * camera sensor: Omnivision 6650 5M driver (ov6650);
     * HDMI CEC: ao-cec meson driver;
     * V4L2: Qualcom camss driver;
     * Remote controller: gpio-ir-tx, pwm-ir-tx and zx-irdec drivers.

   - The DDbridge DVB driver got a massive update, with makes it in sync
     with modern hardware from that vendor;

   - There's an important milestone on this series: the DVB
     documentation was written in 2003, but only started to be updated
     in 2007. It also used to contain several gaps from the time it was
     kept out of tree, mentioning error codes and device nodes that
     never existed upstream. On this series, it received a massive
     update: all non-deprecated digital TV APIs are now in sync with the
     current implementation;

   - Some DVB APIs that aren't used by any upstream driver got removed;

   - Other parts of the media documentation algo got updated, fixing
     some bugs on its PDF output and making it compatible with Sphinx
     version 1.6.

     As the number of hacks required to build PDF output reduced, I hope
     we'll have less troubles as newer versions of our documentation
     toolchain are released (famous last words);

   - As usual, lots of driver cleanups and improvements"

Martin KaFai Lau 637cd8c312 bpf: Add lru_hash_lookup performance test
Create a new case to test the LRU lookup performance.

At the beginning, the LRU map is fully loaded (i.e. the number of keys
is equal to map->max_entries). The lookup is done through key 0
to num_map_entries and then repeats from 0 again.

This patch also creates an anonymous struct to properly
name the test params in stress_lru_hmap_alloc() in map_perf_test_kern.c.

Jesper Dangaard Brouer 3ffab54602 samples/bpf: xdp_monitor tool based on tracepoints
This tool xdp_monitor demonstrate how to use the different xdp_redirect
tracepoints xdp_redirect{,_map}{,_err} from a BPF program.

The default mode is to only monitor the error counters, to avoid
affecting the per packet performance. Tracepoints comes with a base
overhead of 25 nanosec for an attached bpf_prog, and 48 nanosec for
using a full perf record (with non-matching filter). Thus, default
loading the --stats mode could affect the maximum performance.

This version of the tool is very simple and count all types of errors
as one. It will be natural to extend this later with the different
types of errors that can occur, which should help users quickly
identify common mistakes.

Because the TP_STRUCT was kept in sync all the tracepoints loads the
same BPF code. It would also be natural to extend the map version to
demonstrate how the map information could be used.

Jesper Dangaard Brouer 306da4e685 samples/bpf: xdp_redirect load XDP dummy prog on TX device
For supporting XDP_REDIRECT, a device driver must (obviously)
implement the "TX" function ndo_xdp_xmit(). An additional requirement
is you cannot TX out a device, unless it also have a xdp bpf program
attached. This dependency is caused by the driver code need to setup
XDP resources before it can ndo_xdp_xmit.

Update bpf samples xdp_redirect and xdp_redirect_map to automatically
attach a dummy XDP program to the configured ifindex_out device. Use
the XDP flag XDP_FLAGS_UPDATE_IF_NOEXIST on the dummy load, to avoid
overriding an existing XDP prog on the device.

John Fastabend 464bc0fd62 bpf: convert sockmap field attach_bpf_fd2 to type
In the initial sockmap API we provided strparser and verdict programs
using a single attach command by extending the attach API with a the
attach_bpf_fd2 field.

However, if we add other programs in the future we will be adding a
field for every new possible type, attach_bpf_fd(3,4,..). This
seems a bit clumsy for an API. So lets push the programs using two
new type fields.

   BPF_SK_SKB_STREAM_PARSER
   BPF_SK_SKB_STREAM_VERDICT

This has the advantage of having a readable name and can easily be
extended in the future.

Lawrence Brakmo f856e46978 bpf: fix return in load_bpf_file
The function load_bpf_file ignores the return value of
load_and_attach(), so even if load_and_attach() returns an error,
load_bpf_file() will return 0.

Now, load_bpf_file() can call load_and_attach() multiple times and some
can succeed and some could fail. I think the correct behavor is to
return error on the first failed load_and_attach().

Lawrence Brakmo 40304b2a15 bpf: BPF support for sock_ops
Created a new BPF program type, BPF_PROG_TYPE_SOCK_OPS, and a corresponding
struct that allows BPF programs of this type to access some of the
socket's fields (such as IP addresses, ports, etc.). It uses the
existing bpf cgroups infrastructure so the programs can be attached per
cgroup with full inheritance support. The program will be called at
appropriate times to set relevant connections parameters such as buffer
sizes, SYN and SYN-ACK RTOs, etc., based on connection information such
as IP addresses, port numbers, etc.

Alghough there are already 3 mechanisms to set parameters (sysctls,
route metrics and setsockopts), this new mechanism provides some
distinct advantages. Unlike sysctls, it can set parameters per
connection. In contrast to route metrics, it can also use port numbers
and information provided by a user level program. In addition, it could
set parameters probabilistically for evaluation purposes (i.e. do
something different on 10% of the flows and compare results with the
other 90% of the flows). Also, in cases where IPv6 addresses contain
geographic information, the rules to make changes based on the distance
(or RTT) between the hosts are much easier than route metric rules and
can be global. Finally, unlike setsockopt, it oes not require
application changes and it can be updated easily at any time.

Although the bpf cgroup framework already contains a sock related
program type (BPF_PROG_TYPE_CGROUP_SOCK), I created the new type
(BPF_PROG_TYPE_SOCK_OPS) beccause the existing type expects to be called
only once during the connections's lifetime. In contrast, the new
program type will be called multiple times from different places in the
network stack code. For example, before sending SYN and SYN-ACKs to set
an appropriate timeout, when the connection is established to set
congestion control, etc. As a result it has "op" field to specify the
type of operation requested.

The purpose of this new program type is to simplify setting connection
parameters, such as buffer sizes, TCP's SYN RTO, etc. For example, it is
easy to use facebook's internal IPv6 addresses to determine if both hosts
of a connection are in the same datacenter. Therefore, it is easy to
write a BPF program to choose a small SYN RTO value when both hosts are
in the same datacenter.

This patch only contains the framework to support the new BPF program
type, following patches add the functionality to set various connection
parameters.

This patch defines a new BPF program type: BPF_PROG_TYPE_SOCKET_OPS
and a new bpf syscall command to load a new program of this type:
BPF_PROG_LOAD_SOCKET_OPS.

Two new corresponding structs (one for the kernel one for the user/BPF
program):

/* kernel version */
struct bpf_sock_ops_kern {
        struct sock *sk;
        __u32  op;
        union {
                __u32 reply;
                __u32 replylong[4];
        };
};

/* user version
 * Some fields are in network byte order reflecting the sock struct
 * Use the bpf_ntohl helper macro in samples/bpf/bpf_endian.h to
 * convert them to host byte order.
 */
struct bpf_sock_ops {
        __u32 op;
        union {
                __u32 reply;
                __u32 replylong[4];
        };
        __u32 family;
        __u32 remote_ip4;     /* In network byte order */
        __u32 local_ip4;      /* In network byte order */
        __u32 remote_ip6[4];  /* In network byte order */
        __u32 local_ip6[4];   /* In network byte order */
        __u32 remote_port;    /* In network byte order */
        __u32 local_port;     /* In host byte horder */
};

Currently there are two types of ops. The first type expects the BPF
program to return a value which is then used by the caller (or a
negative value to indicate the operation is not supported). The second
type expects state changes to be done by the BPF program, for example
through a setsockopt BPF helper function, and they ignore the return
value.

The reply fields of the bpf_sockt_ops struct are there in case a bpf
program needs to return a value larger than an integer.

David Daney 4b7190e841 samples/bpf: Fix tracex5 to work with MIPS syscalls.
There are two problems:

1) In MIPS the __NR_* macros expand to an expression, this causes the
   sections of the object file to be named like:

  .
  .
  .
  [ 5] kprobe/(5000 + 1) PROGBITS        0000000000000000 000160 ...
  [ 6] kprobe/(5000 + 0) PROGBITS        0000000000000000 000258 ...
  [ 7] kprobe/(5000 + 9) PROGBITS        0000000000000000 000348 ...
  .
  .
  .

The fix here is to use the "asm_offsets" trick to evaluate the macros
in the C compiler and generate a header file with a usable form of the
macros.

2) MIPS syscall numbers start at 5000, so we need a bigger map to hold
the sub-programs.

Jesper Dangaard Brouer 7bc57950bd samples/bpf: bpf_load.c order of prog_fd[] should correspond with ELF order
An eBPF ELF file generated with LLVM can contain several program
section, which can be used for bpf tail calls. The bpf prog file
descriptors are accessible via array prog_fd[].

At-least XDP samples assume ordering, and uses prog_fd[0] is the main
XDP program to attach. The actual order of array prog_fd[] depend on
whether or not a bpf program section is referencing any maps or not.
Not using a map result in being loaded/processed after all other
prog section. Thus, this can lead to some very strange and hard to
debug situation, as the user can only see a FD and cannot correlated
that with the ELF section name.

The fix is rather simple, and even removes duplicate memcmp code.
Simply load program sections as the last step, instead of
load_and_attach while processing the relocation section.

When working with tail calls, it become even more essential that the
order of prog_fd[] is consistant, like the current dependency of the
map_fd[] order.

Jesper Dangaard Brouer 156450d9d9 samples/bpf: make bpf_load.c code compatible with ELF maps section changes
This patch does proper parsing of the ELF "maps" section, in-order to
be both backwards and forwards compatible with changes to the map
definition struct bpf_map_def, which gets compiled into the ELF file.

The assumption is that new features with value zero, means that they
are not in-use. For backward compatibility where loading an ELF file
with a smaller struct bpf_map_def, only copy objects ELF size, leaving
rest of loaders struct zero. For forward compatibility where ELF file
have a larger struct bpf_map_def, only copy loaders own struct size
and verify that rest of the larger struct is zero, assuming this means
the newer feature was not activated, thus it should be safe for this
older loader to load this newer ELF file.

Linus Torvalds 76f1948a79 Merge branch 'for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/jikos/livepatching
Pull livepatch updates from Jiri Kosina:

 - a per-task consistency model is being added for architectures that
   support reliable stack dumping (extending this, currently rather
   trivial set, is currently in the works).

   This extends the nature of the types of patches that can be applied
   by live patching infrastructure. The code stems from the design
   proposal made [1] back in November 2014. It's a hybrid of SUSE's
   kGraft and RH's kpatch, combining advantages of both: it uses
   kGraft's per-task consistency and syscall barrier switching combined
   with kpatch's stack trace switching. There are also a number of
   fallback options which make it quite flexible.

   Most of the heavy lifting done by Josh Poimboeuf with help from
   Miroslav Benes and Petr Mladek

The xdp_tx_iptunnel program can be terminated in two ways, after
N-seconds or via Ctrl-C SIGINT. The SIGINT code path does not

Fix this by storing the XDP flags as a global variable, which is

Jesper Dangaard Brouer 5010e94842 samples/bpf: bpf_load.c detect and abort if ELF maps section size is wrong
The struct bpf_map_def was extended in commit fb30d4b712 ("bpf: Add tests
for map-in-map") with member unsigned int inner_map_idx. This changed the size
of the maps section in the generated ELF _kern.o files.

Unfortunately the loader in bpf_load.c does not detect or handle this. Thus,
older _kern.o files became incompatible, and caused hard-to-debug errors
where the syscall validation rejected BPF_MAP_CREATE request.

This patch only detect the situation and aborts load_bpf_file(). It also
add code comments warning people that read this loader for inspiration
for these pitfalls.

Martin KaFai Lau 3a5795b83d bpf: lru: Add map-in-map LRU example
This patch adds a map-in-map LRU example.
If we know only a subset of cores will use the
LRU, we can allocate a common LRU list per targeting core
and store it into an array-of-hashs.

It allows using the common LRU map with map-update performance
comparable to the BPF_F_NO_COMMON_LRU map but without wasting memory
on the unused cores that we know they will never access the LRU map.

BPF_F_NO_COMMON_LRU:
> map_perf_test 32 8 10000000 10000000 | awk '{sum += $3}END{print sum}'
9234314 (9.23M/s)

map-in-map LRU:
> map_perf_test 512 8 1260000 80000000 | awk '{sum += $3}END{print sum}'
9962743 (9.96M/s)

Notes that the max_entries for the map-in-map LRU test is 1260000 which
is the max_entries for each inner LRU map. 8 processes have been
started, so 8 * 1260000 = 10080000 (~10M) which is close to what is
used in the BPF_F_NO_COMMON_LRU test.

Martin KaFai Lau 9fd63d05f3 bpf: Allow bpf sample programs (*_user.c) to change bpf_map_def
The current bpf_map_def is statically defined during compile
time. This patch allows the *_user.c program to change it during
runtime. It is done by adding load_bpf_file_fixup_map() which
takes a callback. The callback will be called before creating
each map so that it has a chance to modify the bpf_map_def.

The current usecase is to change max_entries in map_perf_test.
It is interesting to test with a much bigger map size in
some cases (e.g. the following patch on bpf_lru_map.c).
However, it is hard to find one size to fit all testing
environment. Hence, it is handy to take the max_entries
as a cmdline arg and then configure the bpf_map_def during
runtime.

This patch adds two cmdline args. One is to configure
the map's max_entries. Another is to configure the max_cnt
which controls how many times a syscall is called.

Josh Poimboeuf 3ec24776bf livepatch: allow removal of a disabled patch
Currently we do not allow patch module to unload since there is no
method to determine if a task is still running in the patched code.

The consistency model gives us the way because when the unpatching
finishes we know that all tasks were marked as safe to call an original
function. Thus every new call to the function calls the original code
and at the same time no task can be somewhere in the patched code,
because it had to leave that code to be marked as safe.

We can safely let the patch module go after that.

Completion is used for synchronization between module removal and sysfs
infrastructure in a similar way to commit 942e443127 ("module: Fix
mod->mkobj.kobj potentially freed too early").

Note that we still do not allow the removal for immediate model, that is
no consistency model. The module refcount may increase in this case if
somebody disables and enables the patch several times. This should not
cause any harm.

With this change a call to try_module_get() is moved to
__klp_enable_patch from klp_register_patch to make module reference
counting symmetric (module_put() is in a patch disable path) and to
allow to take a new reference to a disabled module when being enabled.

Finally, we need to be very careful about possible races between
klp_unregister_patch(), kobject_put() functions and operations
on the related sysfs files.

kobject_put(&patch->kobj) must be called without klp_mutex. Otherwise,
it might be blocked by enabled_store() that needs the mutex as well.
In addition, enabled_store() must check if the patch was not
unregisted in the meantime.

There is no need to do the same for other kobject_put() callsites
at the moment. Their sysfs operations neither take the lock nor
they access any data that might be freed in the meantime.

There was an attempt to use kobjects the right way and prevent these
races by design. But it made the patch definition more complicated
and opened another can of worms. See

This code stems from the design proposal made by Vojtech [1] in November
2014.  It's a hybrid of kGraft and kpatch: it uses kGraft's per-task
consistency and syscall barrier switching combined with kpatch's stack
trace switching. There are also a number of fallback options which make
it quite flexible.

Patches are applied on a per-task basis, when the task is deemed safe to
switch over. When a patch is enabled, livepatch enters into a
transition state where tasks are converging to the patched state.
Usually this transition state can complete in a few seconds. The same
sequence occurs when a patch is disabled, except the tasks converge from
the patched state to the unpatched state.

An interrupt handler inherits the patched state of the task it
interrupts. The same is true for forked tasks: the child inherits the
patched state of the parent.

Livepatch uses several complementary approaches to determine when it's
safe to patch tasks:

1. The first and most effective approach is stack checking of sleeping
   tasks. If no affected functions are on the stack of a given task,
   the task is patched. In most cases this will patch most or all of
   the tasks on the first try. Otherwise it'll keep trying
   periodically. This option is only available if the architecture has
   reliable stacks (HAVE_RELIABLE_STACKTRACE).

2. The second approach, if needed, is kernel exit switching. A
   task is switched when it returns to user space from a system call, a
   user space IRQ, or a signal. It's useful in the following cases:

   a) Patching I/O-bound user tasks which are sleeping on an affected
      function. In this case you have to send SIGSTOP and SIGCONT to
      force it to exit the kernel and be patched.
   b) Patching CPU-bound user tasks. If the task is highly CPU-bound
      then it will get patched the next time it gets interrupted by an
      IRQ.
   c) In the future it could be useful for applying patches for
      architectures which don't yet have HAVE_RELIABLE_STACKTRACE. In
      this case you would have to signal most of the tasks on the
      system. However this isn't supported yet because there's
      currently no way to patch kthreads without
      HAVE_RELIABLE_STACKTRACE.

3. For idle "swapper" tasks, since they don't ever exit the kernel, they
   instead have a klp_update_patch_state() call in the idle loop which
   allows them to be patched before the CPU enters the idle state.

   (Note there's not yet such an approach for kthreads.)

All the above approaches may be skipped by setting the 'immediate' flag
in the 'klp_patch' struct, which will disable per-task consistency and
patch all tasks immediately. This can be useful if the patch doesn't
change any function or data semantics. Note that, even with this flag
set, it's possible that some tasks may still be running with an old
version of the function, until that function returns.

There's also an 'immediate' flag in the 'klp_func' struct which allows
you to specify that certain functions in the patch can be applied
without per-task consistency. This might be useful if you want to patch
a common function like schedule(), and the function change doesn't need
consistency but the rest of the patch does.

For architectures which don't have HAVE_RELIABLE_STACKTRACE, the user
must set patch->immediate which causes all tasks to be patched
immediately. This option should be used with care, only when the patch
doesn't change any function or data semantics.

In the future, architectures which don't have HAVE_RELIABLE_STACKTRACE
may be allowed to use per-task consistency if we can come up with
another way to patch kthreads.

The /sys/kernel/livepatch/<patch>/transition file shows whether a patch
is in transition. Only a single patch (the topmost patch on the stack)
can be in transition at a given time. A patch can remain in transition
indefinitely, if any of the tasks are stuck in the initial patch state.

A transition can be reversed and effectively canceled by writing the
opposite value to the /sys/kernel/livepatch/<patch>/enabled file while
the transition is in progress. Then all the tasks will attempt to
converge back to the original patch state.

Linus Torvalds 590dce2d49 Merge branch 'rebased-statx' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/viro/vfs
Pull vfs 'statx()' update from Al Viro.

This adds the new extended stat() interface that internally subsumes our
previous stat interfaces, and allows user mode to specify in more detail
what kind of information it wants.

It also allows for some explicit synchronization information to be
passed to the filesystem, which can be relevant for network filesystems:
is the cached value ok, or do you need open/close consistency, or what?

From David Howells.

Andreas Dilger points out that the first version of the extended statx
interface was posted June 29, 2010:

    https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-fsdevel/msg33831.html

* 'rebased-statx' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/viro/vfs:

David Howells a528d35e8b statx: Add a system call to make enhanced file info available
Add a system call to make extended file information available, including
file creation and some attribute flags where available through the
underlying filesystem.

The getattr inode operation is altered to take two additional arguments: a
u32 request_mask and an unsigned int flags that indicate the
synchronisation mode. This change is propagated to the vfs_getattr*()
function.

Functions like vfs_stat() are now inline wrappers around new functions
vfs_statx() and vfs_statx_fd() to reduce stack usage.

========
OVERVIEW
========

The idea was initially proposed as a set of xattrs that could be retrieved
with getxattr(), but the general preference proved to be for a new syscall
with an extended stat structure.

A number of requests were gathered for features to be included. The
following have been included:

 (1) Make the fields a consistent size on all arches and make them large.

 (2) Spare space, request flags and information flags are provided for
     future expansion.

 (3) Better support for the y2038 problem [Arnd Bergmann] (tv_sec is an
     __s64).

 (4) Creation time: The SMB protocol carries the creation time, which could
     be exported by Samba, which will in turn help CIFS make use of
     FS-Cache as that can be used for coherency data (stx_btime).

     This is also specified in NFSv4 as a recommended attribute and could
     be exported by NFSD [Steve French].

 (5) Lightweight stat: Ask for just those details of interest, and allow a
     netfs (such as NFS) to approximate anything not of interest, possibly
     without going to the server [Trond Myklebust, Ulrich Drepper, Andreas
     Dilger] (AT_STATX_DONT_SYNC).

 (6) Heavyweight stat: Force a netfs to go to the server, even if it thinks
     its cached attributes are up to date [Trond Myklebust]
     (AT_STATX_FORCE_SYNC).

And the following have been left out for future extension:

 (7) Data version number: Could be used by userspace NFS servers [Aneesh
     Kumar].

     Can also be used to modify fill_post_wcc() in NFSD which retrieves
     i_version directly, but has just called vfs_getattr(). It could get
     it from the kstat struct if it used vfs_xgetattr() instead.

     (There's disagreement on the exact semantics of a single field, since
     not all filesystems do this the same way).

 (8) BSD stat compatibility: Including more fields from the BSD stat such
     as creation time (st_btime) and inode generation number (st_gen)
     [Jeremy Allison, Bernd Schubert].

 (9) Inode generation number: Useful for FUSE and userspace NFS servers
     [Bernd Schubert].

     (This was asked for but later deemed unnecessary with the
     open-by-handle capability available and caused disagreement as to
     whether it's a security hole or not).

(10) Extra coherency data may be useful in making backups [Andreas Dilger].

     (No particular data were offered, but things like last backup
     timestamp, the data version number and the DOS archive bit would come
     into this category).

(11) Allow the filesystem to indicate what it can/cannot provide: A
     filesystem can now say it doesn't support a standard stat feature if
     that isn't available, so if, for instance, inode numbers or UIDs don't
     exist or are fabricated locally...

     (This requires a separate system call - I have an fsinfo() call idea
     for this).

(12) Store a 16-byte volume ID in the superblock that can be returned in
     struct xstat [Steve French].

     (Deferred to fsinfo).

(13) Include granularity fields in the time data to indicate the
     granularity of each of the times (NFSv4 time_delta) [Steve French].

     (Deferred to fsinfo).

(14) FS_IOC_GETFLAGS value. These could be translated to BSD's st_flags.
     Note that the Linux IOC flags are a mess and filesystems such as Ext4
     define flags that aren't in linux/fs.h, so translation in the kernel
     may be a necessity (or, possibly, we provide the filesystem type too).

     (Some attributes are made available in stx_attributes, but the general
     feeling was that the IOC flags were to ext[234]-specific and shouldn't
     be exposed through statx this way).

(15) Mask of features available on file (eg: ACLs, seclabel) [Brad Boyer,
     Michael Kerrisk].

     (Deferred, probably to fsinfo. Finding out if there's an ACL or
     seclabal might require extra filesystem operations).

(16) Femtosecond-resolution timestamps [Dave Chinner].

     (A __reserved field has been left in the statx_timestamp struct for
     this - if there proves to be a need).

(17) A set multiple attributes syscall to go with this.

===============
NEW SYSTEM CALL
===============

The new system call is:

	int ret = statx(int dfd,
			const char *filename,
			unsigned int flags,
			unsigned int mask,
			struct statx *buffer);

The dfd, filename and flags parameters indicate the file to query, in a
similar way to fstatat(). There is no equivalent of lstat() as that can be
emulated with statx() by passing AT_SYMLINK_NOFOLLOW in flags. There is
also no equivalent of fstat() as that can be emulated by passing a NULL
filename to statx() with the fd of interest in dfd.

Whether or not statx() synchronises the attributes with the backing store
can be controlled by OR'ing a value into the flags argument (this typically
only affects network filesystems):

 (1) AT_STATX_SYNC_AS_STAT tells statx() to behave as stat() does in this
     respect.

 (2) AT_STATX_FORCE_SYNC will require a network filesystem to synchronise
     its attributes with the server - which might require data writeback to
     occur to get the timestamps correct.

 (3) AT_STATX_DONT_SYNC will suppress synchronisation with the server in a
     network filesystem. The resulting values should be considered
     approximate.

mask is a bitmask indicating the fields in struct statx that are of
interest to the caller. The user should set this to STATX_BASIC_STATS to
get the basic set returned by stat(). It should be noted that asking for
more information may entail extra I/O operations.

buffer points to the destination for the data. This must be 256 bytes in
size.

======================
MAIN ATTRIBUTES RECORD
======================

The following structures are defined in which to return the main attribute
set:

	struct statx_timestamp {
		__s64	tv_sec;
		__s32	tv_nsec;
		__s32	__reserved;
	};

	struct statx {
		__u32	stx_mask;
		__u32	stx_blksize;
		__u64	stx_attributes;
		__u32	stx_nlink;
		__u32	stx_uid;
		__u32	stx_gid;
		__u16	stx_mode;
		__u16	__spare0[1];
		__u64	stx_ino;
		__u64	stx_size;
		__u64	stx_blocks;
		__u64	__spare1[1];
		struct statx_timestamp	stx_atime;
		struct statx_timestamp	stx_btime;
		struct statx_timestamp	stx_ctime;
		struct statx_timestamp	stx_mtime;
		__u32	stx_rdev_major;
		__u32	stx_rdev_minor;
		__u32	stx_dev_major;
		__u32	stx_dev_minor;
		__u64	__spare2[14];
	};

The defined bits in request_mask and stx_mask are:

	STATX_TYPE		Want/got stx_mode & S_IFMT
	STATX_MODE		Want/got stx_mode & ~S_IFMT
	STATX_NLINK		Want/got stx_nlink
	STATX_UID		Want/got stx_uid
	STATX_GID		Want/got stx_gid
	STATX_ATIME		Want/got stx_atime{,_ns}
	STATX_MTIME		Want/got stx_mtime{,_ns}
	STATX_CTIME		Want/got stx_ctime{,_ns}
	STATX_INO		Want/got stx_ino
	STATX_SIZE		Want/got stx_size
	STATX_BLOCKS		Want/got stx_blocks
	STATX_BASIC_STATS	[The stuff in the normal stat struct]
	STATX_BTIME		Want/got stx_btime{,_ns}
	STATX_ALL		[All currently available stuff]

stx_btime is the file creation time, stx_mask is a bitmask indicating the
data provided and __spares*[] are where as-yet undefined fields can be
placed.

Time fields are structures with separate seconds and nanoseconds fields
plus a reserved field in case we want to add even finer resolution. Note
that times will be negative if before 1970; in such a case, the nanosecond
fields will also be negative if not zero.

The bits defined in the stx_attributes field convey information about a
file, how it is accessed, where it is and what it does. The following
attributes map to FS_*_FL flags and are the same numerical value:

	STATX_ATTR_COMPRESSED File is compressed by the fs
	STATX_ATTR_IMMUTABLE		File is marked immutable
	STATX_ATTR_APPEND		File is append-only
	STATX_ATTR_NODUMP File is not to be dumped
	STATX_ATTR_ENCRYPTED File requires key to decrypt in fs

Within the kernel, the supported flags are listed by:

	KSTAT_ATTR_FS_IOC_FLAGS

[Are any other IOC flags of sufficient general interest to be exposed
through this interface?]

New flags include:

	STATX_ATTR_AUTOMOUNT Object is an automount trigger

These are for the use of GUI tools that might want to mark files specially,
depending on what they are.

Fields in struct statx come in a number of classes:

 (0) stx_dev_*, stx_blksize.

     These are local system information and are always available.

 (1) stx_mode, stx_nlinks, stx_uid, stx_gid, stx_[amc]time, stx_ino,
     stx_size, stx_blocks.

     These will be returned whether the caller asks for them or not. The
     corresponding bits in stx_mask will be set to indicate whether they
     actually have valid values.

     If the caller didn't ask for them, then they may be approximated. For
     example, NFS won't waste any time updating them from the server,
     unless as a byproduct of updating something requested.

     If the values don't actually exist for the underlying object (such as
     UID or GID on a DOS file), then the bit won't be set in the stx_mask,
     even if the caller asked for the value. In such a case, the returned
     value will be a fabrication.

     Note that there are instances where the type might not be valid, for
     instance Windows reparse points.

 (2) stx_rdev_*.

     This will be set only if stx_mode indicates we're looking at a
     blockdev or a chardev, otherwise will be 0.

 (3) stx_btime.

     Similar to (1), except this will be set to 0 if it doesn't exist.

=======
TESTING
=======

The following test program can be used to test the statx system call:

	samples/statx/test-statx.c

Just compile and run, passing it paths to the files you want to examine.
The file is built automatically if CONFIG_SAMPLES is enabled.

Here's some example output. Firstly, an NFS directory that crosses to
another FSID. Note that the AUTOMOUNT attribute is set because transiting
this directory will cause d_automount to be invoked by the VFS.

	[root@andromeda ~]# /tmp/test-statx -A /warthog/data
	statx(/warthog/data) = 0
	results=7ff
	  Size: 4096 Blocks: 8 IO Block: 1048576 directory

	Attributes: 0000000000001000 (-------- -------- -------- -------- -------- -------- ---m---- --------)

Secondly, the result of automounting on that directory.

Ingo Molnar 0c98d344fe sched/core: Remove the tsk_cpus_allowed() wrapper
So the original intention of tsk_cpus_allowed() was to 'future-proof'
the field - but it's pretty ineffectual at that, because half of
the code uses ->cpus_allowed directly ...

Also, the wrapper makes the code longer than the original expression!

So just get rid of it. This also shrinks <linux/sched.h> a bit.

     changed the most (increase or decrease in samples) comes first
     (Namhyung Kim)

   - Add support for parsing Intel uncore vendor event files and add
     uncore vendor events for the Intel server processors (Haswell,
     Broadwell, IvyBridge), Xeon Phi (Knights Landing) and Broadwell DE
     (Andi Kleen)

   - Introduce 'perf ftrace' a perf front end to the kernel's ftrace
     function and function_graph tracer, defaulting to the
     "function_graph" tracer, more work will be done in reviving this
     effort, forward porting it from its initial patch submission
     (Namhyung Kim)

   - Add 'e' and 'c' hotkeys to expand/collapse call chains for a single
     hist entry in the 'perf report' and 'perf top' TUI (Jiri Olsa)

   - Account thread wait time (off CPU time) separately: sleep, iowait
     and preempt, based on the prev_state of the last event, show the
     breakdown when using "perf sched timehist --state" (Namhyumg Kim)

   - Add more triggers to switch the output file (perf.data.TIMESTAMP).

     Now, in addition to switching to a different output file when
     receiving a SIGUSR2, one can also specify file size and time based
     triggers:

           perf record -a --switch-output=signal

     is equivalent to what we had before:

           perf record -a --switch-output

     While we can also ask for the file to be "sliced" by size, taking
     into account that that will happen only when we get woken up by the
     kernel, i.e. one has to take into account the --mmap-pages (the
     size of the perf mmap ring buffer):

           perf record -a --switch-output=2G

     will break the perf.data output into multiple files limited to 2GB
     of samples, right when generating the output.

     For time based samples, alert() will be used, so to have 1 minute
     limited perf.data output files:

          perf record -a --switch-output=1m

     (Jiri Olsa)

   - Improve 'perf trace' (Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo)

   - 'perf kallsyms' toy tool to look for extended symbol information on
     the running kernel and demonstrate the machine/thread/symbol APIs
     for use in other tools, such as 'perf probe' (Arnaldo Carvalho de
     Melo)

   - ... plus tons of other changes, see the shortlog and Git log for
     details"

Alexei Starovoitov 7f67763337 bpf: introduce BPF_F_ALLOW_OVERRIDE flag
If BPF_F_ALLOW_OVERRIDE flag is used in BPF_PROG_ATTACH command
to the given cgroup the descendent cgroup will be able to override
effective bpf program that was inherited from this cgroup.
By default it's not passed, therefore override is disallowed.

Examples:
1.
prog X attached to /A with default
prog Y fails to attach to /A/B and /A/B/C
Everything under /A runs prog X

2.
prog X attached to /A with allow_override.
prog Y fails to attach to /A/B with default (non-override)
prog M attached to /A/B with allow_override.
Everything under /A/B runs prog M only.

3.
prog X attached to /A with allow_override.
prog Y fails to attach to /A with default.
The user has to detach first to switch the mode.

In the future this behavior may be extended with a chain of
non-overridable programs.

Also fix the bug where detach from cgroup where nothing is attached
was not throwing error. Return ENOENT in such case.

Add several testcases and adjust libbpf.

Extend the map_perf_test_{user,kern}.c infrastructure to stress test
lpm-trie lookups. We hook into the kprobe on sys_gettid() and measure
the latency depending on trie size and lookup count.

On my Intel Haswell i7-6400U, a single gettid() syscall with an empty
bpf program takes roughly 6.5us on my system. Lookups in empty tries
take ~1.8us on first try, ~0.9us on retries. Lookups in tries with 8192
entries take ~7.1us (on the first _and_ any subsequent try).

Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo 811b4f0d78 samples/bpf: Be consistent with bpf_load_program bpf_insn parameter
Only one of the examples declare the bpf_insn bpf proggie as a const:

  $ grep 'struct bpf_insn [a-z]' samples/bpf/*.c
  samples/bpf/fds_example.c:	static const struct bpf_insn insns[] = {
  samples/bpf/sock_example.c:	struct bpf_insn prog[] = {
  samples/bpf/test_cgrp2_attach2.c:	struct bpf_insn prog[] = {
  samples/bpf/test_cgrp2_attach.c:	struct bpf_insn prog[] = {
  samples/bpf/test_cgrp2_sock.c:	struct bpf_insn prog[] = {
  $

Which causes this warning:

So just ditch that 'const' to reduce build noise, leaving changing the

Joe Stringer 5dc880de6e tools lib bpf: Add bpf_prog_{attach,detach}
Commit d8c5b17f2b ("samples: bpf: add userspace example for attaching
eBPF programs to cgroups") added these functions to samples/libbpf, but
during this merge all of the samples libbpf functionality is shifting to
tools/lib/bpf. Shift these functions there.

Committer notes:

Use bzero + attr.FIELD = value instead of 'attr = { .FIELD = value, just
like the other wrapper calls to sys_bpf with bpf_attr to make this build
in older toolchais, such as the ones in CentOS 5 and 6.

Joe Stringer 43371c83f3 samples/bpf: Switch over to libbpf
Now that libbpf under tools/lib/bpf/* is synced with the version from
samples/bpf, we can get rid most of the libbpf library here.

Committer notes:

Built it in a docker fedora rawhide container and ran it in the f25 host, seems
to work just like it did before this patch, i.e. the switch to tools/lib/bpf/
doesn't seem to have introduced problems and Joe said he tested it with
all the entries in samples/bpf/ and other code he found:

Linus Torvalds 179a7ba680 This release has a few updates:
o STM can hook into the function tracer
  o Function filtering now supports more advance glob matching
  o Ftrace selftests updates and added tests
  o Softirq tag in traces now show only softirqs
  o ARM nop added to non traced locations at compile time
  o New trace_marker_raw file that allows for binary input
  o Optimizations to the ring buffer
  o Removal of kmap in trace_marker
  o Wakeup and irqsoff tracers now adhere to the set_graph_notrace file
  o Other various fixes and clean ups

 Note, there are two patches marked for stable. These were discovered
 near the end of the 4.9 rc release cycle. By the time I had them tested
 it was just a matter of days before 4.9 would be released, and I
 figured I would just submit them in the merge window. They are old
 bugs and not critical. Nothing non-root could abuse.

Joe Stringer d40fc181eb samples/bpf: Make samples more libbpf-centric
Switch all of the sample code to use the function names from
tools/lib/bpf so that they're consistent with that, and to declare their
own log buffers. This allow the next commit to be purely devoted to
getting rid of the duplicate library in samples/bpf.

Committer notes:

Testing it:

On a fedora rawhide container, with clang/llvm 3.9, sharing the host
linux kernel git tree:

  # make O=/tmp/build/linux/ headers_install
  # make O=/tmp/build/linux -C samples/bpf/

Since I forgot to make it privileged, just tested it outside the
container, using what it generated:

Linus Torvalds edc5f445a6 VFIO updates for v4.10-rc1
- VFIO updates for v4.10 primarily include a new Mediated Device
    interface, which essentially allows software defined devices to be
    exposed to users through VFIO. The host vendor driver providing
    this virtual device polices, or mediates user access to the device.
    These devices often incorporate portions of real devices, for

Uwe Kleine-König e19b7cee02 make use of make variable CURDIR instead of calling pwd
make already provides the current working directory in a variable, so make
use of it instead of forking a shell. Also replace usage of PWD by
CURDIR. PWD is provided by most shells, but not all, so this makes the
build system more robust.

Some tracepoints have a registration function that gets enabled when the

must fail (for example, can't allocate enough memory). In this case, the
tracepoint should also fail to register, otherwise the user would not know
why the tracepoint is not working.

Sargun Dhillon 9b474ecee5 samples, bpf: Add automated test for cgroup filter attachments
This patch adds the sample program test_cgrp2_attach2. This program is
similar to test_cgrp2_attach, but it performs automated testing of the
cgroupv2 BPF attached filters. It runs the following checks:
* Simple filter attachment
* Application of filters to child cgroups
* Overriding filters on child cgroups
	* Checking that this still works when the parent filter is removed

The filters that are used here are simply allow all / deny all filters, so
it isn't checking the actual functionality of the filters, but rather
the behaviour around detachment / attachment. If net_cls is enabled,
this test will fail.

David S. Miller 2745529ac7 Merge git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/davem/net
Couple conflicts resolved here:

1) In the MACB driver, a bug fix to properly initialize the
   RX tail pointer properly overlapped with some changes
   to support variable sized rings.

2) In XGBE we had a "CONFIG_PM" --> "CONFIG_PM_SLEEP" fix
   overlapping with a reorganization of the driver to support
   ACPI, OF, as well as PCI variants of the chip.

3) In 'net' we had several probe error path bug fixes to the
   stmmac driver, meanwhile a lot of this code was cleaned up
   and reorganized in 'net-next'.

4) The cls_flower classifier obtained a helper function in
   'net-next' called __fl_delete() and this overlapped with
   Daniel Borkamann's bug fix to use RCU for object destruction
   in 'net'. It also overlapped with Jiri's change to guard
   the rhashtable_remove_fast() call with a check against
   tc_skip_sw().

5) In mlx4, a revert bug fix in 'net' overlapped with some
   unrelated changes in 'net-next'.

6) In geneve, a stale header pointer after pskb_expand_head()
   bug fix in 'net' overlapped with a large reorganization of
   the same code in 'net-next'. Since the 'net-next' code no
   longer had the bug in question, there was nothing to do
   other than to simply take the 'net-next' hunks.

Sargun Dhillon 1379fd3c42 samples: bpf: Refactor test_cgrp2_attach -- use getopt, and add mode
This patch modifies test_cgrp2_attach to use getopt so we can use standard
command line parsing.

It also adds an option to run the program in detach only mode. This does
not attach a new filter at the cgroup, but only runs the detach command.

Lastly, it changes the attach code to not detach and then attach. It relies
on the 'hotswap' behaviour of CGroup BPF programs to be able to change
in-place. If detach-then-attach behaviour needs to be tested, the example
can be run in detach only mode prior to attachment.

Daniel Borkmann e00c7b216f bpf: fix multiple issues in selftest suite and samples
1) The test_lru_map and test_lru_dist fails building on my machine since
   the sys/resource.h header is not included.

2) test_verifier fails in one test case where we try to call an invalid
   function, since the verifier log output changed wrt printing function
   names.

3) Current selftest suite code relies on sysconf(_SC_NPROCESSORS_CONF) for
   retrieving the number of possible CPUs. This is broken at least in our
   scenario and really just doesn't work.

   glibc tries a number of things for retrieving _SC_NPROCESSORS_CONF.
   First it tries equivalent of /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu[0-9]* | wc -l,
   if that fails, depending on the config, it either tries to count CPUs
   in /proc/cpuinfo, or returns the _SC_NPROCESSORS_ONLN value instead.
   If /proc/cpuinfo has some issue, it returns just 1 worst case. This
   oddity is nothing new [1], but semantics/behaviour seems to be settled.
   _SC_NPROCESSORS_ONLN will parse /sys/devices/system/cpu/online, if
   that fails it looks into /proc/stat for cpuX entries, and if also that
   fails for some reason, /proc/cpuinfo is consulted (and returning 1 if
   unlikely all breaks down).

   While that might match num_possible_cpus() from the kernel in some
   cases, it's really not guaranteed with CPU hotplugging, and can result
   in a buffer overflow since the array in user space could have too few
   number of slots, and on perpcu map lookup, the kernel will write beyond
   that memory of the value buffer.

   William Tu reported such mismatches:

     [...] The fact that sysconf(_SC_NPROCESSORS_CONF) != num_possible_cpu()
     happens when CPU hotadd is enabled. For example, in Fusion when
     setting vcpu.hotadd = "TRUE" or in KVM, setting ./qemu-system-x86_64
     -smp 2, maxcpus=4 ... the num_possible_cpu() will be 4 and sysconf()
     will be 2 [2]. [...]

   Documentation/cputopology.txt says /sys/devices/system/cpu/possible
   outputs cpu_possible_mask. That is the same as in num_possible_cpus(),
   so first step would be to fix the _SC_NPROCESSORS_CONF calls with our
   own implementation. Later, we could add support to bpf(2) for passing
   a mask via CPU_SET(3), for example, to just select a subset of CPUs.

   BPF samples code needs this fix as well (at least so that people stop
   copying this). Thus, define bpf_num_possible_cpus() once in selftests
   and import it from there for the sample code to avoid duplicating it.
   The remaining sysconf(_SC_NPROCESSORS_CONF) in samples are unrelated.

After all three issues are fixed, the test suite runs fine again:

  selftests: test_maps [PASS]
  selftests: test_lru_map [PASS]

Daniel Mack d8c5b17f2b samples: bpf: add userspace example for attaching eBPF programs to cgroups
Add a simple userpace program to demonstrate the new API to attach eBPF
programs to cgroups. This is what it does:

 * Create arraymap in kernel with 4 byte keys and 8 byte values

 * Load eBPF program

   The eBPF program accesses the map passed in to store two pieces of
   information. The number of invocations of the program, which maps
   to the number of packets received, is stored to key 0. Key 1 is
   incremented on each iteration by the number of bytes stored in
   the skb.

 * Detach any eBPF program previously attached to the cgroup

 * Attach the new program to the cgroup using BPF_PROG_ATTACH

 * Once a second, read map[0] and map[1] to see how many bytes and
   packets were seen on any socket of tasks in the given cgroup.

The program takes a cgroup path as 1st argument, and either "ingress"
or "egress" as 2nd. Optionally, "drop" can be passed as 3rd argument,
which will make the generated eBPF program return 0 instead of 1, so
the kernel will drop the packet.

libbpf gained two new wrappers for the new syscall commands.

Martin KaFai Lau 5db58faf98 bpf: Add tests for the LRU bpf_htab
This patch has some unit tests and a test_lru_dist.

The test_lru_dist reads in the numeric keys from a file.
The files used here are generated by a modified fio-genzipf tool
originated from the fio test suit. The sample data file can be
found here: https://github.com/iamkafai/bpf-lru

The zipf.* data files have 100k numeric keys and the key is also
ranged from 1 to 100k.

The test_lru_dist outputs the number of unique keys (nr_unique).
F.e. The following means, 61239 of them is unique out of 100k keys.
nr_misses means it cannot be found in the LRU map, so nr_misses
must be >= nr_unique. test_lru_dist also simulates a perfect LRU
map as a comparison:

[root@arch-fb-vm1 ~]# ~/devshare/fb-kernel/linux/samples/bpf/test_lru_dist \

Martin KaFai Lau 90e02896f1 bpf: Add test for bpf_redirect to ipip/ip6tnl
The test creates two netns, ns1 and ns2. The host (the default netns)
has an ipip or ip6tnl dev configured for tunneling traffic to the ns2.

    ping VIPS from ns1 <----> host <--tunnel--> ns2 (VIPs at loopback)

The test is to have ns1 pinging VIPs configured at the loopback
interface in ns2.

The VIPs are 10.10.1.102 and 2401:face::66 (which are configured
at lo@ns2). [Note: 0x66 => 102].

At ns1, the VIPs are routed _via_ the host.

At the host, bpf programs are installed at the veth to redirect packets
from a veth to the ipip/ip6tnl. The test is configured in a way so
that both ingress and egress can be tested.

At ns2, the ipip/ip6tnl dev is configured with the local and remote address
specified. The return path is routed to the dev ipip/ip6tnl.

During egress test, the host also locally tests pinging the VIPs to ensure
that bpf_redirect at egress also works for the direct egress (i.e. not
forwarding from dev ve1 to ve2).

Daniel Borkmann 96a8eb1eee bpf: fix samples to add fake KBUILD_MODNAME
Some of the sample files are causing issues when they are loaded with tc
and cls_bpf, meaning tc bails out while trying to parse the resulting ELF
file as program/map/etc sections are not present, which can be easily
spotted with readelf(1).

Currently, BPF samples are including some of the kernel headers and mid
term we should change them to refrain from this, really. When dynamic
debugging is enabled, we bail out due to undeclared KBUILD_MODNAME, which
is easily overlooked in the build as clang spills this along with other
noisy warnings from various header includes, and llc still generates an
ELF file with mentioned characteristics. For just playing around with BPF
examples, this can be a bit of a hurdle to take.

Just add a fake KBUILD_MODNAME as a band-aid to fix the issue, same is
done in xdp*_kern samples already.

Add a start of a test suite for kernel selftests. This moves test_verifier
and test_maps over to tools/testing/selftests/bpf/ along with various

The test suite can simply be run via selftest framework, f.e.:

  # make
  # make run_tests

Both test_verifier and test_maps were kind of misplaced in samples/bpf/
directory and we were looking into adding them to selftests for a while
now, so it can be picked up by kbuild bot et al and hopefully also get
more exposure and thus new test case additions.

Josef Bacik 484611357c bpf: allow access into map value arrays
Suppose you have a map array value that is something like this

struct foo {
	unsigned iter;
	int array[SOME_CONSTANT];
};

You can easily insert this into an array, but you cannot modify the contents of
foo->array[] after the fact. This is because we have no way to verify we won't
go off the end of the array at verification time. This patch provides a start
for this work. We accomplish this by keeping track of a minimum and maximum
value a register could be while we're checking the code. Then at the time we
try to do an access into a MAP_VALUE we verify that the maximum offset into that
region is a valid access into that memory region. So in practice, code such as
this

unsigned index = 0;

if (foo->iter >= SOME_CONSTANT)
	foo->iter = index;
else
	index = foo->iter++;
foo->array[index] = bar;

would be allowed, as we can verify that index will always be between 0 and
SOME_CONSTANT-1. If you wish to use signed values you'll have to have an extra
check to make sure the index isn't less than 0, or do something like index %=
SOME_CONSTANT.

Alexei Starovoitov 173ca26e9b samples/bpf: add comprehensive ipip, ipip6, ip6ip6 test
the test creates 3 namespaces with veth connected via bridge.
First two namespaces simulate two different hosts with the same
IPv4 and IPv6 addresses configured on the tunnel interface and they
communicate with outside world via standard tunnels.
Third namespace creates collect_md tunnel that is driven by BPF
program which selects different remote host (either first or
second namespace) based on tcp dest port number while tcp dst
ip is the same.
This scenario is rough approximation of load balancer use case.
The tests check both traditional tunnel configuration and collect_md mode.

Bjorn Andersson 2a48d7322d rpmsg: rpmsg_send() operations takes rpmsg_endpoint
The rpmsg_send() operations has been taking a rpmsg_device, but this
forces users of secondary rpmsg_endpoints to use the rpmsg_sendto()
interface - by extracting source and destination from the given data
structures. If we instead pass the rpmsg_endpoint to these functions a
service can use rpmsg_sendto() to respond to messages, even on secondary
endpoints.

In addition this would allow us to support operations on multiple
channels in future backends that does not support off-channel
operations.

Daniel Borkmann 2d2be8cab2 bpf: fix range propagation on direct packet access
LLVM can generate code that tests for direct packet access via
skb->data/data_end in a way that currently gets rejected by the
verifier, example:

  [...]
   7: (61) r3 = *(u32 *)(r6 +80)
   8: (61) r9 = *(u32 *)(r6 +76)
   9: (bf) r2 = r9
  10: (07) r2 += 54
  11: (3d) if r3 >= r2 goto pc+12
   R1=inv R2=pkt(id=0,off=54,r=0) R3=pkt_end R4=inv R6=ctx
   R9=pkt(id=0,off=0,r=0) R10=fp
  12: (18) r4 = 0xffffff7a
  14: (05) goto pc+430
  [...]

  from 11 to 24: R1=inv R2=pkt(id=0,off=54,r=0) R3=pkt_end R4=inv
                 R6=ctx R9=pkt(id=0,off=0,r=0) R10=fp
  24: (7b) *(u64 *)(r10 -40) = r1
  25: (b7) r1 = 0
  26: (63) *(u32 *)(r6 +56) = r1
  27: (b7) r2 = 40
  28: (71) r8 = *(u8 *)(r9 +20)
  invalid access to packet, off=20 size=1, R9(id=0,off=0,r=0)

The reason why this gets rejected despite a proper test is that we
currently call find_good_pkt_pointers() only in case where we detect
tests like rX > pkt_end, where rX is of type pkt(id=Y,off=Z,r=0) and
derived, for example, from a register of type pkt(id=Y,off=0,r=0)
pointing to skb->data. find_good_pkt_pointers() then fills the range
in the current branch to pkt(id=Y,off=0,r=Z) on success.

For above case, we need to extend that to recognize pkt_end >= rX
pattern and mark the other branch that is taken on success with the
appropriate pkt(id=Y,off=0,r=Z) type via find_good_pkt_pointers().
Since eBPF operates on BPF_JGT (>) and BPF_JGE (>=), these are the
only two practical options to test for from what LLVM could have
generated, since there's no such thing as BPF_JLT (<) or BPF_JLE (<=)
that we would need to take into account as well.

After the fix:

  [...]
   7: (61) r3 = *(u32 *)(r6 +80)
   8: (61) r9 = *(u32 *)(r6 +76)
   9: (bf) r2 = r9
  10: (07) r2 += 54
  11: (3d) if r3 >= r2 goto pc+12
   R1=inv R2=pkt(id=0,off=54,r=0) R3=pkt_end R4=inv R6=ctx
   R9=pkt(id=0,off=0,r=0) R10=fp
  12: (18) r4 = 0xffffff7a
  14: (05) goto pc+430
  [...]

  from 11 to 24: R1=inv R2=pkt(id=0,off=54,r=54) R3=pkt_end R4=inv
                 R6=ctx R9=pkt(id=0,off=0,r=54) R10=fp
  24: (7b) *(u64 *)(r10 -40) = r1
  25: (b7) r1 = 0
  26: (63) *(u32 *)(r6 +56) = r1
  27: (b7) r2 = 40
  28: (71) r8 = *(u8 *)(r9 +20)
  29: (bf) r1 = r8
  30: (25) if r8 > 0x3c goto pc+47
   R1=inv56 R2=imm40 R3=pkt_end R4=inv R6=ctx R8=inv56
   R9=pkt(id=0,off=0,r=54) R10=fp
  31: (b7) r1 = 1
  [...]

Verifier test cases are also added in this work, one that demonstrates
the mentioned example here and one that tries a bad packet access for
the current/fall-through branch (the one with types pkt(id=X,off=Y,r=0),
pkt(id=X,off=0,r=0)), then a case with good and bad accesses, and two
with both test variants (>, >=).

Daniel Borkmann 747ea55e4f bpf: fix bpf_skb_in_cgroup helper naming
While hashing out BPF's current_task_under_cgroup helper bits, it came
to discussion that the skb_in_cgroup helper name was suboptimally chosen.

Tejun says:

  So, I think in_cgroup should mean that the object is in that
  particular cgroup while under_cgroup in the subhierarchy of that
  cgroup. Let's rename the other subhierarchy test to under too. I
  think that'd be a lot less confusing going forward.

  [...]

  It's more intuitive and gives us the room to implement the real
  "in" test if ever necessary in the future.

Since this touches uapi bits, we need to change this as long as v4.8
is not yet officially released. Thus, change the helper enum and rename
related bits.
