Mark Rutland 7be2e31964 x86: clean up symbol aliasing
Now that we have SYM_FUNC_ALIAS() and SYM_FUNC_ALIAS_WEAK(), use those
to simplify the definition of function aliases across arch/x86.

For clarity, where there are multiple annotations such as
EXPORT_SYMBOL(), I've tried to keep annotations grouped by symbol. For
example, where a function has a name and an alias which are both
exported, this is organised as:

	SYM_FUNC_START(func)
	    ... asm insns ...
	SYM_FUNC_END(func)
	EXPORT_SYMBOL(func)

	SYM_FUNC_ALIAS(alias, func)
	EXPORT_SYMBOL(alias)

Where there are only aliases and no exports or other annotations, I have
not bothered with line spacing, e.g.

	SYM_FUNC_START(func)
	    ... asm insns ...
	SYM_FUNC_END(func)
	SYM_FUNC_ALIAS(alias, func)

The tools/perf/ copies of memset_64.S and memset_64.S are updated
likewise to avoid the build system complaining these are mismatched:

| Warning: Kernel ABI header at 'tools/arch/x86/lib/memcpy_64.S' differs from latest version at 'arch/x86/lib/memcpy_64.S'
| diff -u tools/arch/x86/lib/memcpy_64.S arch/x86/lib/memcpy_64.S
| Warning: Kernel ABI header at 'tools/arch/x86/lib/memset_64.S' differs from latest version at 'arch/x86/lib/memset_64.S'
| diff -u tools/arch/x86/lib/memset_64.S arch/x86/lib/memset_64.S

There should be no functional change as a result of this patch.

Peter Zijlstra (Intel) d45476d983 x86/speculation: Rename RETPOLINE_AMD to RETPOLINE_LFENCE
The RETPOLINE_AMD name is unfortunate since it isn't necessarily
AMD only, in fact Hygon also uses it. Furthermore it will likely be
sufficient for some Intel processors. Therefore rename the thing to
RETPOLINE_LFENCE to better describe what it is.

Add the spectre_v2=retpoline,lfence option as an alias to
spectre_v2=retpoline,amd to preserve existing setups. However, the output
of /sys/devices/system/cpu/vulnerabilities/spectre_v2 will be changed.

Alexandru Elisei 6ee7fca2a4 KVM: arm64: Add KVM_ARM_VCPU_PMU_V3_SET_PMU attribute
When KVM creates an event and there are more than one PMUs present on the
system, perf_init_event() will go through the list of available PMUs and
will choose the first one that can create the event. The order of the PMUs
in this list depends on the probe order, which can change under various
circumstances, for example if the order of the PMU nodes change in the DTB
or if asynchronous driver probing is enabled on the kernel command line
(with the driver_async_probe=armv8-pmu option).

Another consequence of this approach is that on heteregeneous systems all
virtual machines that KVM creates will use the same PMU. This might cause
unexpected behaviour for userspace: when a VCPU is executing on the
physical CPU that uses this default PMU, PMU events in the guest work
correctly; but when the same VCPU executes on another CPU, PMU events in
the guest will suddenly stop counting.

Fortunately, perf core allows user to specify on which PMU to create an
event by using the perf_event_attr->type field, which is used by
perf_init_event() as an index in the radix tree of available PMUs.

Add the KVM_ARM_VCPU_PMU_V3_CTRL(KVM_ARM_VCPU_PMU_V3_SET_PMU) VCPU
attribute to allow userspace to specify the arm_pmu that KVM will use when
creating events for that VCPU. KVM will make no attempt to run the VCPU on
the physical CPUs that share the PMU, leaving it up to userspace to manage
the VCPU threads' affinity accordingly.

To ensure that KVM doesn't expose an asymmetric system to the guest, the
PMU set for one VCPU will be used by all other VCPUs. Once a VCPU has run,
the PMU cannot be changed in order to avoid changing the list of available
events for a VCPU, or to change the semantics of existing events.

The original implementation of this command was in the bcc tool.

 - Support --cputype option for hybrid events in 'perf stat'.

 Improvements:

 - Call chain improvements for ARM64.

 - No need to do any affinity setup when profiling pids.

 - Reduce multiplexing with duration_time in 'perf stat' metrics.

 - Improve error message for uncore events, stating that some event groups are
can only be used in system wide (-a) mode.

 - perf stat metric group leader fixes/improvements, including arch specific
changes to better support Intel topdown events.

 - Probe non-deprecated sysfs path 1st, i.e. try /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpuN/topology/thread_siblings
   first, then the old /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpuN/topology/core_cpus.

 - Disable debuginfod by default in 'perf record', to avoid stalls on distros
   such as Fedora 35.

 - Use unbuffered output in 'perf bench' when pipe/tee'ing to a file.

 - Enable ignore_missing_thread in 'perf trace'

 Fixes:

 - Avoid TUI crash when navigating in the annotation of recursive functions.

 - Fix hex dump character output in 'perf script'.

 - Fix JSON indentation to 4 spaces standard in the ARM vendor event files.

 - Fix use after free in metric__new().

 - Fix IS_ERR_OR_NULL() usage in the perf BPF loader.

 - Fix up cross-arch register support, i.e. when printing register names take
into account the architecture where the perf.data file was collected.

 - Fix SMT fallback with large core counts.

 - Don't lower case MetricExpr when parsing JSON files so as not to lose info
such as the ":G" event modifier in metrics.

 perf test:

 - Add basic stress test for sigtrap handling to 'perf test'.

 - Fix 'perf test' failures on s/390

 - Enable system wide for metricgroups test in 'perf test´.

 - Use 3 digits for test numbering now we can have more tests.

 Arch specific:

 - Add events for Arm Neoverse N2 in the ARM JSON vendor event files

 - Support PERF_MEM_LVLNUM encodings in powerpc, that came from a single
patch series, where I incorrectly merged the kernel bits, that were then
reverted after coordination with Michael Ellerman and Stephen Rothwell.

 - Add ARM SPE total latency as PERF_SAMPLE_WEIGHT.

 - Update AMD documentation, with info on raw event encoding.

 - Add support for global and local variants of the "p_stage_cyc" sort key,
applicable to perf.data files collected on powerpc.

 - Remove duplicate and incorrect aux size checks in the ARM CoreSight ETM code.

 Refactorings:

 - Add a perf_cpu abstraction to disambiguate CPUs and CPU map indexes, fixing
   problems along the way.

 - Document CPU map methods.

 UAPI sync:

 - Update arch/x86/lib/mem{cpy,set}_64.S copies used in 'perf bench mem memcpy'

 - Sync UAPI files with the kernel sources: drm, msr-index, cpufeatures.

 Build system

 - Enable warnings through HOSTCFLAGS.

 - Drop requirement for libstdc++.so for libopencsd check

 libperf:

 - Make libperf adopt perf_counts_values__scale() from tools/perf/util/.

 - Add a stat multiplexing test to libperf.

   - Add 'latency' subcommand to 'perf ftrace', that can use the
function graph tracer or a BPF optimized one, via the -b/--use-bpf
     option.

     E.g.:

The original implementation of this command was in the bcc tool.

   - Support --cputype option for hybrid events in 'perf stat'.

  Improvements:

   - Call chain improvements for ARM64.

   - No need to do any affinity setup when profiling pids.

   - Reduce multiplexing with duration_time in 'perf stat' metrics.

   - Improve error message for uncore events, stating that some event
groups are can only be used in system wide (-a) mode.

   - perf stat metric group leader fixes/improvements, including arch
specific changes to better support Intel topdown events.

   - Probe non-deprecated sysfs path first, i.e. try the path
     /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpuN/topology/thread_siblings first, then
     the old /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpuN/topology/core_cpus.

   - Disable debuginfod by default in 'perf record', to avoid stalls on
     distros such as Fedora 35.

   - Use unbuffered output in 'perf bench' when pipe/tee'ing to a file.

   - Enable ignore_missing_thread in 'perf trace'

  Fixes:

   - Avoid TUI crash when navigating in the annotation of recursive
     functions.

   - Fix hex dump character output in 'perf script'.

   - Fix JSON indentation to 4 spaces standard in the ARM vendor event
     files.

   - Fix use after free in metric__new().

   - Fix IS_ERR_OR_NULL() usage in the perf BPF loader.

   - Fix up cross-arch register support, i.e. when printing register
names take into account the architecture where the perf.data file
     was collected.

   - Fix SMT fallback with large core counts.

   - Don't lower case MetricExpr when parsing JSON files so as not to
lose info such as the ":G" event modifier in metrics.

   - Support PERF_MEM_LVLNUM encodings in powerpc, that came from a
single patch series, where I incorrectly merged the kernel bits,
that were then reverted after coordination with Michael Ellerman
     and Stephen Rothwell.

   - Add ARM SPE total latency as PERF_SAMPLE_WEIGHT.

   - Update AMD documentation, with info on raw event encoding.

   - Add support for global and local variants of the "p_stage_cyc" sort
key, applicable to perf.data files collected on powerpc.

   - Remove duplicate and incorrect aux size checks in the ARM CoreSight
     ETM code.

  Refactorings:

   - Add a perf_cpu abstraction to disambiguate CPUs and CPU map
indexes, fixing problems along the way.

   - Document CPU map methods.

  UAPI sync:

   - Update arch/x86/lib/mem{cpy,set}_64.S copies used in 'perf bench
     mem memcpy'

   - Sync UAPI files with the kernel sources: drm, msr-index,
     cpufeatures.

  Build system

   - Enable warnings through HOSTCFLAGS.

   - Drop requirement for libstdc++.so for libopencsd check

  libperf:

   - Make libperf adopt perf_counts_values__scale() from tools/perf/util/.

   - Add a stat multiplexing test to libperf"

Addressing these tools/perf build warnings:

    diff -u tools/arch/x86/include/asm/msr-index.h arch/x86/include/asm/msr-index.h
Warning: Kernel ABI header at 'tools/arch/x86/include/asm/msr-index.h' differs from latest version at 'arch/x86/include/asm/msr-index.h'

Now one can trace systemwide asking to see backtraces to where those
MSRs are being read/written with:

  # perf trace -e msr:*_msr/max-stack=32/ --filter="msr>=AMD_CPPC_CAP1 && msr<=AMD_CPPC_STATUS"
  ^C#

If we use -v (verbose mode) we can see what it does behind the scenes:

  # perf trace -v -e msr:*_msr/max-stack=32/ --filter="msr>=AMD_CPPC_CAP1 && msr<=AMD_CPPC_STATUS"
  <SNIP>
  New filter for msr:read_msr: (msr>=0xc00102b0 && msr<=0xc00102b4) && (common_pid != 2612102 && common_pid != 3841)

Example with a frequent msr:

  # perf trace -v -e msr:*_msr/max-stack=32/ --filter="msr==IA32_SPEC_CTRL" --max-events 2

Peter Zijlstra c6dbd3e5e6 x86/mmx_32: Remove X86_USE_3DNOW
This code puts an exception table entry on the PREFETCH instruction to
overwrite it with a JMP.d8 when it triggers an exception. Except of
course, our code is no longer writable, also SMP.

Instead of fixing this broken mess, simply take it out.

  # perf trace -e msr:*_msr/max-stack=32/ --filter="msr==IA32_XFD || msr==IA32_XFD_ERR"

Athira Rajeev 83e1ada67a perf powerpc: Add support to expose instruction and data address registers as part of extended regs
This patch enables presenting Sampled Instruction Address Register
(SIAR) and Sampled Data Address Register (SDAR) SPRs as part of extended
registers for the perf tool.

Add these SPR's to sample_reg_mask in the tool side (to use with -I?

PERF_REG_PMU_MASK_300 and PERF_REG_PMU_MASK_31 defines the mask value
for extended registers. Current definition of these mask values uses hex
constant and does not use registers by name, making it less readable.
Patch refactor the macro values in perf tools side header file by or'ing

Borislav Petkov f96b467583 x86/insn: Use get_unaligned() instead of memcpy()
Use get_unaligned() instead of memcpy() to access potentially unaligned
memory, which, when accessed through a pointer, leads to undefined
behavior. get_unaligned() describes much better what is happening there
anyway even if memcpy() does the job.

In addition, since perf tool builds with -Werror, it would fire with:

  util/intel-pt-decoder/../../../arch/x86/lib/insn.c: In function '__insn_get_emulate_prefix':
tools/include/../include/asm-generic/unaligned.h:10:15: error: packed attribute is unnecessary [-Werror=packed]
     10 | const struct { type x; } __packed *__pptr = (typeof(__pptr))(ptr); \

because -Werror=packed would complain if the packed attribute would have
no effect on the layout of the structure.

In this case, that is intentional so disable the warning only for that
compilation unit.

Don't perform unaligned loads in __get_next() and __peek_nbyte_next() as
these are forms of undefined behavior:

"A pointer to an object or incomplete type may be converted to a pointer
to a different object or incomplete type. If the resulting pointer
is not correctly aligned for the pointed-to type, the behavior is
undefined."

(from http://www.open-std.org/jtc1/sc22/wg14/www/docs/n1256.pdf)

These problems were identified using the undefined behavior sanitizer

Sean Christopherson 2da4a23599 KVM: selftests: Remove __NR_userfaultfd syscall fallback

from the installed kernel headers.

Sean Christopherson de5f4213da tools: Move x86 syscall number fallbacks to .../uapi/
Move unistd_{32,64}.h from x86/include/asm to x86/include/uapi/asm so
that tools/selftests that install kernel headers, e.g. KVM selftests, can
include non-uapi tools headers, e.g. to get 'struct list_head', without
effectively overriding the installed non-tool uapi headers.

Swapping KVM's search order, e.g. to search the kernel headers before
tool headers, is not a viable option as doing results in linux/type.h and
other core headers getting pulled from the kernel headers, which do not
have the kernel-internal typedefs that are used through tools, including
many files outside of selftests/kvm's control.

Prior to commit cec07f53c3 ("perf tools: Move syscall number fallbacks
from perf-sys.h to tools/arch/x86/include/asm/"), the handcoded numbers
were actual fallbacks, i.e. overriding unistd_{32,64}.h from the kernel
headers was unintentional.

Kim Phillips dde994dd54 perf report: Add tools/arch/x86/include/asm/amd-ibs.h
This is a tools/-side patch for the patch that adds the original copy
of the IBS header file, in arch/x86/include/asm/.

We also add an entry to check-headers.sh, so future changes continue
to be copied.

Committer notes:

Had to add this

  -#include <asm/msr-index.h>
  +#include "msr-index.h"

And change the check-headers.sh entry to ignore this line when diffing
with the original kernel header.

This is needed so that we can use 'perf report' on a perf.data with IBS
data on a !x86 system, i.e. building on ARM fails without this as there
is no asm/msr-index.h there.

This was done on the next patch in this series and is done for things
like Intel PT and ARM CoreSight.

H. Peter Anvin (Intel) f1b7d45d3f x86/irq: Remove unused vectors defines
UV_BAU_MESSAGE is defined but not used anywhere in the kernel. Presumably
this is a stale vector number that can be reclaimed.

MCE_VECTOR is not an actual vector: #MC is an exception, not an interrupt
vector, and as such is correctly described as X86_TRAP_MC. MCE_VECTOR is
not used anywhere is the kernel.

Note that NMI_VECTOR *is* used; specifically it is the vector number
programmed into the APIC LVT when an NMI interrupt is configured. At
the moment it is always numerically identical to X86_TRAP_NMI, that is
not necessarily going to be the case indefinitely.

"The three SEV commits are not really urgent material. But we figured
since getting them in now will avoid a huge amount of conflicts

The idea is that the tip, kvm etc branches for 5.14 will all base

Ingo Molnar 41f45fb045 x86/asm: Make <asm/asm.h> valid on cross-builds as well
Stephen Rothwell reported that the objtool cross-build breaks on
non-x86 hosts:

  > tools/arch/x86/include/asm/asm.h:185:24: error: invalid register name for 'current_stack_pointer'
  >   185 | register unsigned long current_stack_pointer asm(_ASM_SP);
  > | ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The PowerPC host obviously doesn't know much about x86 register names.

Protect the kernel-specific bits of <asm/asm.h>, so that it can be
included by tooling and cross-built.

Linus Torvalds c6536676c7 - turn the stack canary into a normal __percpu variable on 32-bit which
gets rid of the LAZY_GS stuff and a lot of code.

 - Add an insn_decode() API which all users of the instruction decoder
should preferrably use. Its goal is to keep the details of the
instruction decoder away from its users and simplify and streamline how
one decodes insns in the kernel. Convert its users to it.

 - kprobes improvements and fixes

 - Set the maximum DIE per package variable on Hygon

 - Rip out the dynamic NOP selection and simplify all the machinery around
selecting NOPs. Use the simplified NOPs in objtool now too.

 - Add Xeon Sapphire Rapids to list of CPUs that support PPIN

 - Simplify the retpolines by folding the entire thing into an
alternative now that objtool can handle alternatives with stack
ops. Then, have objtool rewrite the call to the retpoline with the
alternative which then will get patched at boot time.

 - Document Intel uarch per models in intel-family.h

 - Make Sub-NUMA Clustering topology the default and Cluster-on-Die the
 exception on Intel.

Pull x86 updates from Borislav Petkov:

 - Turn the stack canary into a normal __percpu variable on 32-bit which
gets rid of the LAZY_GS stuff and a lot of code.

 - Add an insn_decode() API which all users of the instruction decoder
should preferrably use. Its goal is to keep the details of the
instruction decoder away from its users and simplify and streamline
how one decodes insns in the kernel. Convert its users to it.

 - kprobes improvements and fixes

 - Set the maximum DIE per package variable on Hygon

 - Rip out the dynamic NOP selection and simplify all the machinery
around selecting NOPs. Use the simplified NOPs in objtool now too.

 - Add Xeon Sapphire Rapids to list of CPUs that support PPIN

 - Simplify the retpolines by folding the entire thing into an
alternative now that objtool can handle alternatives with stack ops.
Then, have objtool rewrite the call to the retpoline with the
alternative which then will get patched at boot time.

 - Document Intel uarch per models in intel-family.h

 - Make Sub-NUMA Clustering topology the default and Cluster-on-Die the
   exception on Intel.

Borislav Petkov 93281c4a96 x86/insn: Add an insn_decode() API
Users of the instruction decoder should use this to decode instruction
bytes. For that, have insn*() helpers return an int value to denote
success/failure. When there's an error fetching the next insn byte and
the insn falls short, return -ENODATA to denote that.

While at it, make insn_get_opcode() more stricter as to whether what has
seen so far is a valid insn and if not.

Copy linux/kconfig.h for the tools-version of the decoder so that it can
use IS_ENABLED().

Also, cast the INSN_MODE_KERN dummy define value to (enum insn_mode)
for tools use of the decoder because perf tool builds with -Werror and
errors out with -Werror=sign-compare otherwise.

Feng Tang c6b2f240bf tools/x86: Add a kcpuid tool to show raw CPU features
End users frequently want to know what features their processor
supports, independent of what the kernel supports.

/proc/cpuinfo is great. It is omnipresent and since it is provided by
the kernel it is always as up to date as the kernel. But, it could be
ambiguous about processor features which can be disabled by the kernel
at boot-time or compile-time.

There are some user space tools showing more raw features, but they are
not bound with kernel, and go with distros. Many end users are still
using old distros with new kernels (upgraded by themselves), and may
not upgrade the distros only to get a newer tool.

So here arise the need for a new tool, which
  * shows raw CPU features read from the CPUID instruction
  * will be easier to update compared to existing userspace
    tooling (perhaps distributed like perf)
  * inherits "modern" kernel development process, in contrast to some
of the existing userspace CPUID tools which are still being developed
without git and distributed in tarballs from non-https sites.
  * Can produce output consistent with /proc/cpuinfo to make comparison
    easier.

The CPUID leaf definitions are kept in an .csv file which allows for
updating only that file to add support for new feature leafs.

This is based on prototype code from Borislav Petkov
(http://sr71.net/~dave/intel/stupid-cpuid.c).

 [ bp:
   - Massage, add #define _GNU_SOURCE to fix implicit declaration of

Linus Torvalds 3a36281a17 New features:
- Support instruction latency in 'perf report', with both memory latency
(weight) and instruction latency information, users can locate expensive load
instructions and understand time spent in different stages.

 - Extend 'perf c2c' to display the number of loads which were blocked by data
   or address conflict.

 - Add 'perf stat' support for L2 topdown events in systems such as Intel's
   Sapphire rapids server.

 - Add support for PERF_SAMPLE_CODE_PAGE_SIZE in various tools, as a sort key, for instance:

     perf report --stdio --sort=comm,symbol,code_page_size

 - New 'perf daemon' command to run long running sessions while providing a way to control
the enablement of events without restarting a traditional 'perf record' session.

 - Enable counting events for BPF programs in 'perf stat' just like for other
targets (tid, cgroup, cpu, etc), e.g.:

       # perf stat -e ref-cycles,cycles -b 254 -I 1000
          1.487903822 115,200 ref-cycles
          1.487903822 86,012 cycles
          2.489147029 80,560 ref-cycles
          2.489147029 73,784 cycles
       ^C#

The example above counts 'cycles' and 'ref-cycles' of BPF program of id 254.
It is similar to bpftool-prog-profile command, but more flexible.

 - Support the new layout for PERF_RECORD_MMAP2 to carry the DSO build-id using infrastructure
generalised from the eBPF subsystem, removing the need for traversing the perf.data file
to collect build-ids at the end of 'perf record' sessions and helping with long running
sessions where binaries can get replaced in updates, leading to possible mis-resolution
   of symbols.

 - Support filtering by hex address in 'perf script'.

 - Support DSO filter in 'perf script', like in other perf tools.

 - Add namespaces support to 'perf inject'

 - Add support for SDT (Dtrace Style Markers) events on ARM64.

 perf record:

 - Fix handling of eventfd() when draining a buffer in 'perf record'.

 - Improvements to the generation of metadata events for pre-existing threads (mmaps, comm, etc),
speeding up the work done at the start of system wide or per CPU 'perf record' sessions.

 Hardware tracing:

 - Initial support for tracing KVM with Intel PT.

 - Intel PT fixes for IPC

 - Support Intel PT PSB (synchronization packets) events.

 - Automatically group aux-output events to overcome --filter syntax.

 - Enable PERF_SAMPLE_DATA_SRC on ARMs SPE.

 - Update ARM's CoreSight hardware tracing OpenCSD library to v1.0.0.

 perf annotate TUI:

 - Fix handling of 'k' ("show line number") hotkey

 - Fix jump parsing for C++ code.

 perf probe:

 - Add protection to avoid endless loop.

 cgroups:

 - Avoid reading cgroup mountpoint multiple times, caching it.

 - Fix handling of cgroup v1/v2 in mixed hierarchy.

 Symbol resolving:

 - Add OCaml symbol demangling.

 - Further fixes for handling PE executables when using perf with Wine and .exe/.dll files.

 - Fix 'perf unwind' DSO handling.

 - Resolve symbols against debug file first, to deal with artifacts related to LTO.

 - Fix gap between kernel end and module start on powerpc.

 Reporting tools:

 - The DSO filter shouldn't show samples in unresolved maps.

 - Improve debuginfod support in various tools.

 build ids:

 - Fix 16-byte build ids in 'perf buildid-cache', add a 'perf test' entry for that case.

 perf test:

 - Support for PERF_SAMPLE_WEIGHT_STRUCT.

Ravi Bangoria bd1de1a0e6 KVM: PPC: Book3S HV: Add infrastructure to support 2nd DAWR
KVM code assumes single DAWR everywhere. Add code to support 2nd DAWR.
DAWR is a hypervisor resource and thus H_SET_MODE hcall is used to set/
unset it. Introduce new case H_SET_MODE_RESOURCE_SET_DAWR1 for 2nd DAWR.
Also, KVM will support 2nd DAWR only if CPU_FTR_DAWR1 is set.

Running instruction decoder posttest on an s390 host with an x86 target
with allyesconfig shows errors. Instructions used in a couple of kernel
objects could not be correctly decoded on big endian system.

insn_decoder_test: warning: objdump says 6 bytes, but insn_get_length() says 5
insn_decoder_test: warning: Found an x86 instruction decoder bug, please report this.

insn_decoder_test: warning: Found an x86 instruction decoder bug, please report this.

insn_decoder_test: warning: objdump says 8 bytes, but insn_get_length() says 6

This is because in a few places instruction field bytes are set directly
with further usage of "value". To address that introduce and use a
insn_set_byte() helper, which correctly updates "value" on big endian
systems.

Vasily Gorbik 8bfe273238 objtool: Fix x86 orc generation on big endian cross-compiles
Correct objtool orc generation endianness problems to enable fully
functional x86 cross-compiles on big endian hardware.

Introduce bswap_if_needed() macro, which does a byte swap if target
endianness doesn't match the host, i.e. cross-compilation for little
endian on big endian and vice versa. The macro is used for conversion
of multi-byte values which are read from / about to be written to a
target native endianness ELF file.

Martin Schwidefsky 1d509f2a6e x86/insn: Support big endian cross-compiles
The x86 instruction decoder code is shared across the kernel source and
the tools. Currently objtool seems to be the only tool from build tools
needed which breaks x86 cross-compilation on big endian systems. Make
the x86 instruction decoder build host endianness agnostic to support
x86 cross-compilation and enable objtool to implement endianness
awareness for big endian architectures support.
