Alan Stern aa15d3d257 USB: remove the URB_NO_FSBR flag
The URB_NO_FSBR flag has never really been used. It was introduced as
a potential way for UHCI to minimize PCI bus usage (by not attempting
full-speed bulk and control transfers more than once per frame), but
the flag was not set by any drivers.

There's no point in keeping it around. This patch simplifies the API
by removing it. Unfortunately, it does have to be kept as part of the
usbfs ABI, but at least we can document in
include/uapi/linux/usbdevice_fs.h that it doesn't do anything.

Ruslan Bilovol 0591bc2360 usb: gadget: add f_uac1 variant based on a new u_audio api
This patch adds a new function 'f_uac1'
(f_uac1 with virtual "ALSA card") that
uses recently created u_audio API. Comparing
to legacy f_uac1 function implementation it
doesn't require any real Audio codec to be
present on the device. In f_uac1 audio
streams are simply sinked to and sourced
from a virtual ALSA sound card created
using u_audio API.

Legacy f_uac1 approach is to write audio
samples directly to existing ALSA sound
card

f_uac1 approach is more generic/flexible
one - create an ALSA sound card that
represents USB Audio function and allows to
be used by userspace application that
may choose to do whatever it wants with the
data received from the USB Host and choose
to provide whatever it wants as audio data
to the USB Host.

f_uac1 also has capture support (gadget->host)
thanks to easy implementation via u_audio.
By default, capture interface has 48000kHz/2ch
configuration, same as playback channel has.

f_uac1 descriptors naming convention
uses f_uac2 driver naming convention that
makes it more common and meaningful.

Comparing to f_uac1_legacy, the f_uac1 doesn't
have volume/mute functionality. This is because
the f_uac1 volume/mute feature unit was dummy
implementation since that driver creation (2009)
and never had any real volume control or mute
functionality, so there is no any difference
here.

Since f_uac1 functionality, exposed
interface to userspace (virtual ALSA card),
input parameters are so different comparing
to f_uac1_legacy, that there is no any
reason to keep them in the same file/module,
and separate function was created.

g_audio can be built using one of existing
UAC functions (f_uac1, f_uac1_legacy or f_uac2)

Linus Torvalds 8f28472a73 USB patches for 4.12-rc1
Here is the big USB patchset for 4.12-rc1.

Lots of good stuff here, after many many many attempts, the kernel
finally has a working typeC interface, many thanks to the Heikki and
Guenter and others who have taken the time to get this merged. It
wasn't an easy path for them at all.

There's also a staging driver that uses this new api, which is why it's
 coming in through this tree.

Along with that, there's the usual huge number of changes for gadget
drivers, xhci, and other stuff. Johan also finally refactored pretty
much every driver that was looking at USB endpoints to do it in a common
way, which will help prevent any "badly-formed" devices from causing
problems in drivers. That too wasn't a simple task.

All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported
 issues.

Linus Torvalds c58d4055c0 A reasonably busy cycle for documentation this time around. There is a new

Mauro Carvalho Chehab e463c06335 usb/URB.txt: convert to ReST and update it
The URB doc describes the Kernel mechanism that do USB transfers.
While the functions are already described at urb.h, there are a
number of concepts and theory that are important for USB driver
developers.

Convert it to ReST and use C ref links to point to the places
at usb.h where each function and struct is located.

A few of those descriptions were incomplete. While here, update
to reflect the current API status.

relinquish the ability to issue other ioctls that may interfere with
other processes and drivers that have claimed an interface on the
device.

This commit also includes a simple utility to be able to test the
ioctl, located at Documentation/usb/usbdevfs-drop-permissions.c

Example (with qemu-kvm's input device):

    $ lsusb
    ...
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0627:0001 Adomax Technology Co., Ltd

    $ usb-devices

    I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 1 Cls=03(HID ) Sub=00 Prot=02 Driver=usbhid

    $ sudo ./usbdevfs-drop-permissions /dev/bus/usb/001/002
    OK: privileges dropped!
    Available options:
    [0] Exit now
[1] Reset device. Should fail if device is in use
[2] Claim 4 interfaces. Should succeed where not in use
    [3] Narrow interface permission mask
Which option shall I run?: 1
ERROR: USBDEVFS_RESET failed! (1 - Operation not permitted)

ERROR claiming if 1 (1 - Operation not permitted)
ERROR claiming if 2 (1 - Operation not permitted)
ERROR claiming if 3 (1 - Operation not permitted)
Which test shall I run next?: 0

After unbinding usbhid:

    $ usb-devices
    ...
    I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 1 Cls=03(HID ) Sub=00 Prot=02 Driver=(none)

    $ sudo ./usbdevfs-drop-permissions /dev/bus/usb/001/002

After unbinding usbhid and restricting the mask:

    $ sudo ./usbdevfs-drop-permissions /dev/bus/usb/001/002

Which option shall I run?: 3
    Insert new mask: 0

The usbip_protocol.txt, a document which describes usbip's

Documentation/usb.

This discussion was brought up by Guy Harris [0] during the

support is available with the latest wireshark master/dev tree.
Simply select a packet from the usbip's tcp-stream you are

Lu Baolu bf5ce5bf3c usb: core: lpm: fix usb3_hardware_lpm sysfs node
Commit 655fe4effe ("usbcore: add sysfs support to xHCI usb3
hardware LPM") introduced usb3_hardware_lpm sysfs node. This
doesn't show the correct status of USB3 U1 and U2 LPM status.

This patch fixes this by replacing usb3_hardware_lpm with two
nodes, usb3_hardware_lpm_u1 (for U1) and usb3_hardware_lpm_u2
(for U2), and recording the U1/U2 LPM status in right places.

This patch should be back-ported to kernels as old as 4.3,
that contains Commit 655fe4effe ("usbcore: add sysfs support
to xHCI usb3 hardware LPM").

Greg Kroah-Hartman a3fbedf98f usb: patches for v4.3 merge window
New support for Allwinne SoC on the MUSB driver has been added to the list of
 glue layers. MUSB also got support for building all DMA engines in one binary;
this will be great for distros.

DWC3 now has no trace of dev_dbg()/dev_vdbg() usage. We will rely solely on
tracing to debug DWC3. There was also a fix for memory corruption with EP0 when
maxpacket size transfers are > 512 bytes.

Robert's EP capabilities flags is making EP selection a lot simpler. UDCs are
now required to set these flags up when adding endpoints to the framework.

Other than these, we have the usual set of miscelaneous cleanups and minor
 fixes.

Andrzej Pietrasiewicz d6d22922d9 usb: gadget: rndis: remove the limit of available rndis connections
RNDIS function has a limitation on the number of allowed instances.
So far it has been RNDIS_MAX_CONFIGS, which happens to be one.
In order to eliminate this kind of arbitrary limitation we should not
preallocate a predefined (RNDIS_MAX_CONFIGS) array of struct rndis_params
instances but instead allow allocating them on demand.

This patch allocates struct rndis_params on demand in rndis_register().
Coversly, the structure is free()'d in rndis_deregister().
If CONFIG_USB_GADGET_DEBUG_FILES is set, the proc files are created which
is the same behaviour as before, but the moment of creation is delayed
until struct rndis_params is actually allocated.

rnids_init() and rndis_exit() have nothing to do, so they are eliminated.

H. Nikolaus Schaller e3aa205aa1 Documentation usb serial: fixed how to provide vendor and product id
While trying to test a Cinterion GSM/GPS/3G module I had reconfigured
the USB interface by mistake and therefore needed to run a different
USB driver than CDC-ACM. It turned out that I need the "usbserial" driver.

This file is an official description how to use it:
Documentation/usb/usb-serial.txt

But it is outdated. The parameters vendor= and product= have been
superseded by a /sys interface.

Here was the solution:

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=175499

  insmod usbserial vendor=0x#### product=0x####

becomes (first #### is vendor, second is product)

  modprobe usbserial
  echo #### #### >/sys/bus/usb-serial/drivers/generic/new_id

This patch changes the documentation file to describe the modern variant.
Please note that the old one still works (if compiled as module).

usb: patches for v4.1 merge window

As usual, a big pile of commits. This time a total
of 111 non-merge commits.

Other than the usual set of cleanups and non-critical
fixes, we have some interesting work for AM335x's MUSB
babble recovery. Now that takes a lot less time and we
don't have to Reset MUSB all the time.

The printer gadget has been converted to configfs interface
and the atmel udc has learned suspend/resume with wakeup.

Greg Kroah-Hartman 4d4bac4499 usb: patches for v3.20 merge window
Here's the big pull request for Gadgets and PHYs. It's
a total of 217 non-merge commits with pretty much everything
 being touched.

The most important bits are a ton of new documentation for
almost all usb gadget functions, a new isp1760 UDC driver,
several improvements to the old net2280 UDC driver, and
some minor tracepoint improvements to dwc3.

Other than that, a big list of minor cleanups, smaller bugfixes
and new features all over the place.

Thomas Pugliese 005799d560 uwb: doc: bring uwb documentation up to date
The existing UWB documentation states that UWB devices show up in
/sys/class/uwb and /sys/bus/uwb/devices. Up until the most recent
changes to add uwb devices to their own bus, neither of these statements
were actually true. Now, UWB devices do show up in /sys/bus/uwb/devices
so the documentation has been updated to reflect that and removed
references to /sys/class/uwb.

The existing documentation also states that local UWB radio controller
(RC) devices also show up as UWB devices along with their wireless peer
UWB devices under /sys/class/uwb. This is not true so that statement
has been removed.

Ming Lei 85721d4526 USB: URB documentation: claim complete() will be run with IRQs enabled
There is no good reason to run complete() in hard interrupt
disabled context.

After switch to run complete() in tasklet, we will enable local IRQs
when calling complete() since we can do it at that time.

Even though we still disable IRQs now when calling complete()
in tasklet, the URB documentation is updated to claim complete()
will be run in tasklet context and local IRQs will be enabled, so
that USB drivers can know the change and avoid one deadlock caused
by: assume IRQs disabled in complete() and call spin_lock() to
hold lock which might be acquired in interrupt context.

Current spin_lock() usages in drivers' complete() will be cleaned
up at the same time, and once the cleanup is finished, local IRQs
will be enabled when calling complete() in tasklet.

Also fix description about type of usb_complete_t, and remove the
advice of running completion handler in tasklet for decreasing
system latency.

Linus Torvalds fc76a258d4 Driver core patches for 3.11-rc1
Here's the big driver core merge for 3.11-rc1

Lots of little things, and larger firmware subsystem updates, all
described in the shortlog. Nice thing here is that we finally get rid
of CONFIG_HOTPLUG, after 10+ years, thanks to Stephen Rohtwell (it had
been always on for a number of kernel releases, now it's just removed.)

Greg Kroah-Hartman 7fd94beeca usb: gadget: patches for v3.8
renesas_usbhs implements ->pullup() method, switches over
to devm_request_irq(), adds support for DMA Engine and
 got a few miscelaneous cleanups.

The NCM gadget got an endianness fix and the Ethernet
 gadget a frame size fix.

We're finally removing the g_file_storage gadget and
sticking to g_mass_storage and the new tcm_usb_gadget
gadgets since that was a huge duplicaton of effort anyway.

While removing g_file_storage, we also had to fix a bunch
of defconfigs which were still pointing to the old gadget.

There's a big series getting us closer to being able to
introduce our configfs interface. The series converts
functions into loadable modules which will, eventually,
be registered to the configfs interface.

Other than that there's the usual typo fixes and miscelaneous
 cleanups all over the place.
