Now, we start converting tty buffer functions to actually use
tty_port. This will allow us to get rid of the need of tty in many
call sites. Only tty_port will needed and hence no more
tty_port_tty_get in those paths.
Now, the one where most of tty_port_tty_get gets removed:
tty_flip_buffer_push.
IOW we also closed all the races in drivers not using tty_port_tty_get
at all yet.
Also we move tty_flip_buffer_push declaration from include/linux/tty.h

The flags argument of the phy_{attach,connect,connect_direct} functions
is then used to assign a struct phy_device dev_flags with its value.
All callers but the tg3 driver pass the flag 0, which results in the
underlying PHY drivers in drivers/net/phy/ not being able to actually
use any of the flags they would set in dev_flags. This patch gets rid of
the flags argument, and passes phydev->dev_flags to the internal PHY
library call phy_attach_direct() such that drivers which actually modify
a phy device dev_flags get the value preserved for use by the underlying
phy driver.

After commit "TTY: move tty buffers to tty_port", the tty buffers are
not freed in some drivers. This is because tty_port_destructor is not
called whenever a tty_port is freed. This was an assumption I counted
with but was unfortunately untrue. So fix the drivers to fulfil this
assumption.
To be sure, the TTY buffers (and later some stuff) are gone along with
the tty_port, we have to call tty_port_destroy at tear-down places.
This is mostly where the structure containing a tty_port is freed.
This patch does exactly that -- put tty_port_destroy at those places.

A number of Huawei 3G and LTE modems implement a CDC NCM function,
including the necessary functional descriptors, but using a non
standard interface layout and class/subclass/protocol codes.
These devices can be handled by this driver with only a minor
change to the probing logic, allowing a single combined control
and data interface. This works because the devices
- include a CDC Union descriptor labelling the combined
interface as both master and slave, and
- have an alternate setting #1 for the bulk endpoints on the
combined interface.
The 3G/LTE network connection is managed by vendor specific AT
commands on a serial function in the same composite device.
Handling the managment function is out of the scope of this
driver. It will be handled by an appropriate USB serial
driver.

These devices provide QMI and ethernet functionality via a standard CDC
ethernet descriptor. But when driven by cdc_ether, the QMI
functionality is unavailable because only cdc_ether can claim the USB
interface. Thus blacklist the devices in cdc_ether and add their IDs to
qmi_wwan, which enables both QMI and ethernet simultaneously.

Driver anchors the tx urbs and defers the urb submission if
a transmit request comes when the interface is suspended.
Anchoring urb increments the urb reference count. These
deferred urbs are later accessed by calling usb_get_from_anchor()
for submission during interface resume. usb_get_from_anchor()
unanchors the urb but urb reference count remains same.
This causes the urb reference count to remain non-zero
after usb_free_urb() gets called and urb never gets freed.
Hence call usb_put_urb() after anchoring the urb to properly
balance the reference count for these deferred urbs. Also,
unanchor these deferred urbs during disconnect, to free them
up.

MBIM devices can support up to 256 generic streams called
Device Service Streams (DSS). The MBIM spec says
The format of the Device Service Stream payload depends
on the device service (as identified by the corresponding
UUID) that is used when opening the data stream.
Example use cases are serial AT command interfaces and NMEA
data streams. We cannot make any assumptions about these
device services.
Adding support for Device Service Stream by extending
the MBIM session to VLAN mapping scheme, allocating
VLAN IDs 256 to 511 for DSS, using the DSS SessionID
as the lower 8bit of the VLAN ID.
Using a netdev for DSS keeps the device framing intact and
allows userspace to do whatever it want with the streams.
For example, exporting an AT command interface using DSS
session #0 to a PTY for use with a terminal application like
minicom:
vconfig add wwan0 256
ip link set dev wwan0 up
ip link set dev wwan0.256 up
socat INTERFACE:wwan0.256,type=2 PTY:,echo=0,link=/tmp/modem
Device configuration must be done using MBIM control commands
over the /dev/cdc-wdmx device. The userspace management
application should coordinate host VLAN configuration and the
device MBIM configuration using the device capabilities to
find out if it needs to set up PTY mappings etc.

The CDC Mobile Broadband Interface Model (MBIM) specification
extends CDC NCM by
- removing the redundant ethernet header from the point-to-point
USB channel
- adding support for multiple IP (v4 and/or v6) sessions multiplexed
on the same USB channel
- adding a MBIM control channel encapsulated in CDC
- adding Device Service Streams (DSS), which are non IP generic data
streams multiplexed on the same USB channel as the IP sessions
MBIM devices are managed using the dedicated control channel, and no
data will flow on the data channel until a control session has been
established. This driver has no knowledge of MBIM control messages.
It just exports the control channel to a /dev/cdc-wdmX character
device for userspace management applications. Such an application is
therefore required to use this driver.
This patch implements basic MBIM support, reusing the NCM and WDM driver
APIs, currently limited to IP sessions with SessionID 0. DSS and
multiplexed IP sessions are not yet supported.

Adding multiplexed NDP support to cdc_ncm_fill_tx_frame, allowing
transmissions of multiple independent sessions within the same NTB.
Refactoring the code quite a bit to avoid having to store copies
of multiple NDPs being prepared for tx. The old code would still
reserve enough room for a maximum sized NDP in the skb so we might
as well keep them in the skb while they are being prepared.

Some devices do not support the 8 byte variants of the NTB input
size control messages despite announcing such support in their
NCM or MBIM functional descriptor.
According to the NCM specification, all devices must support the
4 byte variant regardless of whether or not the flag is set:
If bit D5 is set in the bmNetworkCapabilities field of
function’s NCM Functional Descriptor, the host may
set wLength either to 4 or to 8. If wLength is 4, the
function shall assume that wNtbInMaxDatagrams is to be
set to zero. If wLength is 8, then the function shall
use the provided value as the limit. The function shall
return an error response (a STALL PID) if wLength is set
to any other value.
We do not set wNtbInMaxDatagrams in any case, so we can just as
well unconditionally use the 4 byte variant without losing any
functionality. This works around the known firmware bug, and
simplifies the code considerably.

changed qmi_wwan to use cdc_wdm as a subdriver for devices with
a two-interface QMI/wwan function. The commit failed to update
qmi_wwan_suspend and qmi_wwan_resume, which were written to handle
either a single combined interface function, or no subdriver at all.

QMI requests exceeding 1500 bytes are possible and
device firmware does not handle fragmented messages
very well. It is therefore necessary to increase
the maximum message size from the current 512 bytes.
The protocol message size limit is not documented
in any publicly known source, but the out of tree
driver from CodeAurora use 4 kB. This is therefore
chosen as the new arbitrary default until the real
limit is known.
This should allow any QMI message to be transmitted

This reverts commit 5d65878d7031b6c39054b282faceff406bb2fda9.
The upper layers call usbnet_start_xmit() with a valid skb.
However cdc_ncm abuses this method by calling it with NULL
to trigger IO for the aggregated private skb holding erlier
packets. Until cdc_ncm is fixed, the check for NULL must
be reintroduced.

Suspending an open usbnet device results in constant
rescheduling of usbnet_bh.
commit 65841fd5 "usbnet: handle remote wakeup asap"
refactored the usbnet_bh code to allow sharing the
urb allocate and submit code with usbnet_resume. In
this process, a test for, and immediate return on,
ENOLINK from rx_submit was unintentionally dropped.
The rx queue will not grow if rx_submit fails,
making usbnet_bh reschedule itself. This results
in a softirq storm if the error is persistent.
rx_submit translates the usb_submit_urb error
EHOSTUNREACH into ENOLINK, so this is an expected
and persistent error for a suspended device. The
old code tested for this condition and avoided
rescheduling. Putting this test back.

Add 6 new devices and one modified device, based on
information from laptop vendor Windows drivers.
Sony provides a driver with two new devices using
a Gobi 2k+ layout (1199:68a5 and 1199:68a9). The
Sony driver also adds a non-standard QMI/net
interface to the already supported 1199:9011
Gobi device. We do not know whether this is an
alternate interface number or an additional
interface which might be present, but that doesn't
really matter.
Lenovo provides a driver supporting 4 new devices:
- MC7770 (1199:901b) with standard Gobi 2k+ layout
- MC7700 (0f3d:68a2) with layout similar to MC7710
- MC7750 (114f:68a2) with layout similar to MC7710
- EM7700 (1199:901c) with layout similar to MC7710
Note regaring the three devices similar to MC7710:
The Windows drivers only support interface #8 on these
devices. The MC7710 can support QMI/net functions on
interface #19 and #20 as well, and this driver is
verified to work on interface #19 (a firmware bug is
suspected to prevent #20 from working).
We do not enable these additional interfaces until they
either show up in a Windows driver or are verified to
work in some other way. Therefore limiting the new
devices to interface #8 for now.

Instead of class/subclass/protocol the vendor use fixed
interface numbers for each function, and the Windows
drivers use these numbers to match driver and function.
The driver has had its own interface number whitelisting
code to simulate this functionality. Replace this with
generic interface number matching now that the USB subsystem
support is there. This
- removes the need for a driver_info structure per
interface number,
- avoids running the probe function for unsupported
interfaces, and
- simplifies the code.

Currently we have no way to assign tty->port while performing tty
installation. There are two ways to provide the link tty_struct =>
tty_port. Either by calling tty_port_install from tty->ops->install or
tty_port_register_device called instead of tty_register_device when
the device is being set up after connected.
In this patch we modify most of the drivers to do the latter. When the
drivers use tty_register_device and we have tty_port already, we
switch to tty_port_register_device. So we have the tty_struct =>
tty_port link for free for those.

We allocate memory for 'req' with usb_alloc_urb() and then test
'if (!req || rx_submit(pnd, req, GFP_KERNEL | __GFP_COLD))'.
If we enter that branch due to '!req' then there is no problem. But if
we enter the branch due to 'req' being != 0 and the 'rx_submit()' call
being false, then we'll leak the memory we allocated.
Deal with the leak by always calling 'usb_free_urb(req)' when entering
the branch. If 'req' happens to be 0 then the call is harmless, if it
is not 0 then we free the memory we allocated but don't need.

The skb->pfmemalloc flag gets set to true iff during the slab allocation
of data in __alloc_skb that the the PFMEMALLOC reserves were used. If
page splitting is used, it is possible that pages will be allocated from
the PFMEMALLOC reserve without propagating this information to the skb.
This patch propagates page->pfmemalloc from pages allocated for fragments
to the skb.
It works by reintroducing and expanding the skb_alloc_page() API to take
an skb. If the page was allocated from pfmemalloc reserves, it is
automatically copied. If the driver allocates the page before the skb, it
should call skb_propagate_pfmemalloc() after the skb is allocated to
ensure the flag is copied properly.
Failure to do so is not critical. The resulting driver may perform slower
if it is used for swap-over-NBD or swap-over-NFS but it should not result
in failure.

The current code for reading the EEPROM via ethtool in the asix
driver has a few issues. It cannot handle odd length values
(accesses must be aligned at 16 bit boundaries) and interprets the
offset provided by ethtool as 16 bit word offset instead as byte offset.
The new code for asix_get_eeprom() introduced by this patch is
modeled after the code in
drivers/net/ethernet/atheros/atl1e/atl1e_ethtool.c
and provides read access to the entire EEPROM with arbitrary
offsets and lengths.

The usbnet API use the device ID table to store a pointer to
a minidriver. Setting a generic pointer for dynamic device
IDs will in most cases make them work as expected. usbnet
will otherwise treat the dynamic IDs as blacklisted. That is
rarely useful.
There is no standard class describing devices supported by
this driver, and most vendors don't even provide enough
information to allow vendor specific wildcard matching. The
result is that most of the supported devices must be
explicitly listed in the device table. Allowing dynamic IDs
to work both simplifies testing and verification of new
devices, and provides a way for end users to use a device
before the ID is added to the driver.

I noticed excess calls to skb_copy_expand() or memmove() in asix driver.
This driver needs to push 4 bytes in front of frame (packet_len)
and maybe add 4 bytes after the end (if padlen is 4)
So it should set needed_headroom & needed_tailroom to avoid
copies. But its not enough, because many packets are cloned
before entering asix_tx_fixup() and this driver use skb_cloned()
as a lazy way to check if it can push and put additional bytes in frame.
Avoid skb_copy_expand() expensive call, using following rules :
- We are allowed to push 4 bytes in headroom if skb_header_cloned()
is false (and if we have 4 bytes of headroom)
- We are allowed to put 4 bytes at tail if skb_cloned()
is false (and if we have 4 bytes of tailroom)
TCP packets for example are cloned, but skb_header_release()
was called in tcp stack, allowing us to use headroom for our needs.

Use static interface numbers taken from the interface map in
qcserial for all Gobi devices instead:
Gobi 1K USB layout:
0: serial port (doesn't respond)
1: serial port (doesn't respond)
2: AT-capable modem port
3: QMI/net
Gobi 2K+ USB layout:
0: QMI/net
1: DM/DIAG (use libqcdm from ModemManager for communication)
2: AT-capable modem port
3: NMEA
This should be more reliable over all, and will also prevent the
noisy "probe failed" messages. The whitelisting logic is expected
to be replaced by direct interface number matching in 3.6.

Always bind to control interface regardless of whether
it is a shared interface or not.
A QMI/wwan function is required to provide both a control
interface (QMI) and a data interface (wwan). All devices
supported by this driver do so. But the vendors may
choose to use different USB descriptor layouts, and some
vendors even allow the same device to present different
layouts.
Most of these devices use a USB descriptor layout with a
single USB interface for both control and data. But some
split control and data into two interfaces, bound together
by a CDC Union descriptor on the control interface. Before
the cdc-wdm subdriver support was added, this split was
used to let cdc-wdm drive the QMI control interface and
qmi_wwan drive the wwna data interface.
This split driver model has a number of issues:
- qmi_wwan must match on the data interface descriptor,
which often are indistiguishable from data interfaces
belonging to other CDC (like) functions like ACM
- supporting a single QMI/wwan function requires adding
the device to two drivers
- syncronizing the probes among a number of drivers, to
ensure selecting the correct driver, is difficult unless
all drivers match on the same interface
This patch resolves these problems by using the same
probing mechanism as cdc-ether for devices with a two-
interface USB descriptor layout. This makes the driver
behave consistently, supporting both the control and data
part of the QMI/wwan function, regardless of the USB
descriptors.

Change the forced interface 4 whitelist to use the generic shared

K3520-Z

K3765-Z

Hub-initiated LPM is not good for USB communications devices. Comms
devices should be able to tell when their link can go into a lower power
state, because they know when an incoming transmission is finished.
Ideally, these devices would slam their links into a lower power state,
using the device-initiated LPM, after finishing the last packet of their
data transfer.
If we enable the idle timeouts for the parent hubs to enable
hub-initiated LPM, we will get a lot of useless LPM packets on the bus
as the devices reject LPM transitions when they're in the middle of
receiving data. Worse, some devices might blindly accept the
hub-initiated LPM and power down their radios while they're in the
middle of receiving a transmission.
The Intel Windows folks are disabling hub-initiated LPM for all USB
communications devices under a xHCI USB 3.0 host. In order to keep
the Linux behavior as close as possible to Windows, we need to do the
same in Linux.
Set the disable_hub_initiated_lpm flag for for all USB communications
drivers. I know there aren't currently any USB 3.0 devices that
implement these class specifications, but we should be ready if they do.

Commit 4231d47e6fe69f061f96c98c30eaf9fb4c14b96d(net/usbnet: avoid
recursive locking in usbnet_stop()) fixes the recursive locking
problem by releasing the skb queue lock before unlink, but may
cause skb traversing races:
- after URB is unlinked and the queue lock is released,
the refered skb and skb->next may be moved to done queue,
even be released
- in skb_queue_walk_safe, the next skb is still obtained
by next pointer of the last skb
- so maybe trigger oops or other problems
This patch extends the usage of entry->state to describe 'start_unlink'
state, so always holding the queue(rx/tx) lock to change the state if
the referd skb is in rx or tx queue because we need to know if the
refered urb has been started unlinking in unlink_urbs.
The other part of this patch is based on Huajun's patch:
always traverse from head of the tx/rx queue to get skb which is
to be unlinked but not been started unlinking.
