Now that all users of acpi_gpio.h have been moved to use either the GPIO
descriptor interface or to the internal gpiolib.h we can get rid of
acpi_gpio.h entirely.
Once this is done the only interface to get GPIOs to drivers enumerated
from ACPI namespace is the descriptor based interface.

Instead of asking each driver to register to ACPI events we can just call
acpi_gpiochip_register_interrupts() for each chip that has an ACPI handle.
The function checks chip->to_irq and if it is set to NULL (a GPIO driver
that doesn't do interrupts) the function does nothing.
We also add the a new header drivers/gpio/gpiolib.h that is used for
functions internal to gpiolib and add ACPI GPIO chip registering functions
to that header.
Once that is done we can remove call to acpi_gpiochip_register_interrupts()
from its only user, pinctrl-baytrail.c

The system may crash if:
- there are more than 1 banks
- unbanked irqs are enabled
- someone will call gpio_to_irq() for GPIO from bank2 or above
Hence, fix it by not creating irq_domain if unbanked irqs are enabled
and correct gpio_to_irq_banked() to handle this properly.

It's unsafe to call IRQ chip callbacks (.irq_mask/irq_unmask/irq_ack)
from chained IRQ handler directly. Because, Davinci GPIO block is used
by different SoCs, which, in turn, have different Main IRQ controllers
(Davinci - aintc, cp-intc; Keystone - arm-gic) which may introduce
diffrent set of IRQ chip callbacks. As result, call of
gpio_irq_handler() on Keysone will simply cause crash the system,
because ARM-GIC implements .irq_eoi() instead of .irq_ack().
Hence, fix it by using Kernel chained_irq_enter/chained_irq_exit APIs as
they are intended to handle exact such cases.

The compatible to Davinci GPIO HW block is used by other TI SoCs, like
Keystone, where GPIO support is declared as optional.
Hence, introduce GPIO_DAVINCI Kconfig option which will allow to enable
Davinci GPIO driver for Keystone SoCs when needed. At same time, kept
Davinci GPIO driver enabled for Davinci SoCs by default.

Since Davinci GPIO driver is moved to support gpiolib it has to use
ARCH_NR_GPIOS (can be configured using CONFIG_ARCH_NR_GPIO Kconfig
option) configuration instead of any mach/platform specific options.
Hence, replace private DAVINCI_N_GPIO with common ARCH_NR_GPIOS. This is
safe because default value for ARCH_NR_GPIOS=256 and maximum number of
supported GPIOs for Davinci is DAVINCI_N_GPIO=144.
More over, this is one of steps to re-use Davinci GPIO driver by other
mach/platform.

This isolates the custom S3C64xx GPIO definition table to
<linux/platform_data/gpio-samsung-s3x64xx.h> as this is
used in a few different places in the kernel, removing the
need to depend on the implicit inclusion of <mach/gpio.h>
from <linux/gpio.h> and thus getting rid of a few nasty
cross-dependencies.
Also delete the CONFIG_SAMSUNG_GPIO_EXTRA stuff. Instead
roof the number of GPIOs for this platform:
First sum up all the GPIO banks from A to Q: 187 GPIOs.
Add the 16 "board GPIOs" and the roof for SAMSUNG_GPIO_EXTRA,
128, so in total maximum 187+16+128 = 331 GPIOs, so let's
take the same roof as for S3C24XX: 512. This way we can do
away with the GPIO calculation macros for GPIO_BOARD_START,
BOARD_NR_GPIOS and the definition of ARCH_NR_GPIOS.

The biggest this can ever be for the S3C24XX is
CONFIG_S3C24XX_GPIO_EXTRA = 128, and then for CPU_S3C2443 or
CPU_S3C2416 32*12 GPIOs are added, so 32*12+128 = 512
is the absolute roof value on this platform. So we set
the size of ARCH_NR_GPIO to this and the GPIOs array will
fit any S3C24XX platform, as per pattern from other archs.

According to the manual, if a port is set for level detection using
the corresponding bit in the edge/level select register and an external
level interrupt signal is asserted, the corresponding bit in INTDT
does not use the FF to hold the input.
Thus, writing 1 to the corresponding bits in INTCLR cannot clear the
corresponding bits in the INTDT register. Instead, when an external
input signal is stopped, the corresponding bit in INTDT is cleared
automatically.
Since the INTDT bit cannot be cleared for the level interrupts until
the interrupt signal is stopped, we end up with the infinite loop
when using deferred (threaded) IRQ handling.
Since a deferred interrupt is disabled by the low-level handler and
re-enabled only when the deferred handler is completed, Fix the issue
by dropping disabled interrupts from the pending mask as suggested by
Laurent Pinchart <laurent.pinchart@ideasonboard.com>

We should be writing bits here but instead we're writing the
numbers that correspond to the bits we want to write. Fix it by
wrapping the numbers in the BIT() macro. This fixes gpios acting
as interrupts.

Some devices drivers make use of optional GPIO parameters. For such
drivers, it is important to discriminate between the case where no
GPIO mapping has been defined for the function they are requesting, and
the case where a mapping exists but an error occured while resolving it
or when acquiring the GPIO.
This patch changes the family of gpiod_get() functions such that they
will return -ENOENT if and only if no GPIO mapping is defined for the
requested function. Other error codes are used when an actual error
occured during the GPIO resolution.

GPIO32 is a standard optional extension to the Xtensa architecture
core that provides preconfigured output and input ports for intra
SoC signaling. The GPIO32 option is implemented as 32bit Tensilica
Instruction Extension (TIE) output state called EXPSTATE, and 32bit
input wire called IMPWIRE. This driver treats input and output
states as two distinct devices.

proper, I don't think such workaround is called for.
This patch is strictly rename only and doesn't introduce any
functional difference.

to this fix we eventually also be fix the issues in the .dts files
and drivers, but that's too intrusive for the -rc cycle and must be
done later on.
Also a fix for a regression where we now are wrongly trying to initialize
devices on secure omaps like n900 and n9* when booted using device tree.
We need to set aes, sham and timer12 to disabled mode for secure
devices as they are claimed by the firmware running in the secure mode.
And two more legacy booting vs device tree based booting fixes for
am3517 that I did not notice earlier until Nishant Menon reported
these to me few days ago. With these we're good to go having v3.13
working both for legacy booting and device tree based booting, and we

A rather big fix for a regression where we have dropped omap4 hwmod
data earlier but are not initializing it from device tree. In addition
to this fix we eventually also be fix the issues in the .dts files
and drivers, but that's too intrusive for the -rc cycle and must be
done later on.
Also a fix for a regression where we now are wrongly trying to initialize
devices on secure omaps like n900 and n9* when booted using device tree.
We need to set aes, sham and timer12 to disabled mode for secure
devices as they are claimed by the firmware running in the secure mode.
And two more legacy booting vs device tree based booting fixes for
am3517 that I did not notice earlier until Nishant Menon reported
these to me few days ago. With these we're good to go having v3.13
working both for legacy booting and device tree based booting, and we
can then go ahed and drop the legacy booting for mach-omap2 for v3.14.

Change the format of the platform GPIO lookup tables to make them less
confusing and improve lookup efficiency.
The previous format was a single linked-list that required to compare
the device name and function ID of every single GPIO defined for each
lookup. Switch that to a list of per-device tables, so that the lookup
can be done in two steps, omitting the GPIOs that are not relevant for a
particular device.
The matching rules are now defined as follows:
- The device name must match *exactly*, and can be NULL for GPIOs not
assigned to a particular device,
- If the function ID in the lookup table is NULL, the con_id argument of
gpiod_get() will not be used for lookup. However, if it is defined, it
must match exactly.
- The index must always match.

This switches the two members of struct gpio_chip that were
defined as unsigned foo:1 to bool, because that is indeed what
they are. Switch all users in the gpio and pinctrl subsystems
to assign these values with true/false instead of 0/1. The
users outside these subsystems will survive since true/false
is 1/0, atleast we set some kind of more strict typing example.

gpiochip_offset_to_desc() was using gpio_to_desc(), which directly
addresses the global GPIO array we are hoping to get rid of someday.
Reimplement it using the descriptor array of the chip itself, after
checking the requested offset is within the valid bounds of the chip.

It's the drivers responsibility to react on failure to get
the gpio descriptors and not the frameworks. Since there are
some common peripherals that may or may not have certain
pins connected to gpio lines, depending on the platform,
printing the warning there may end up generating useless bug
reports.

For MPC8572/MPC8536, the status of GPIOs defined as output
cannot be determined by reading GPDAT register, so the code
use shadow data register instead. But the code may give the
wrong status of GPIOs defined as input under some scenarios:
1. If some pins were configured as inputs and were asserted
high before booting the kernel, the shadow data has been
initialized with those pin values.
2. Some pins have been configured as output first and have
been set to the high value, then reconfigured as input.
The above cases will make the shadow data for those input
pins to be set to high. Then reading the pin status will
always return high even if the actual pin status is low.
The code should eliminate the effects of the shadow data to
the input pins, and the status of those pins should be
read directly from GPDAT.

For platforms that use device tree or ACPI as the standard way to look
GPIOs up, allow the platform-defined GPIO mappings to be used as a
fallback. This may be useful for platforms that need extra GPIOs mappings
not defined by the firmware.

Some versions of the R-Car GPIO controller support triggering on both
edges of the input signal. Whether this capability is supported is
currently specified in platform data. R-Car GPIO devices instantiated
from the device tree have the capability turned off even when the
hardware supports it.
To fix this, add DT match data support to the driver, initialize both
edge trigger support from match data and enable both edge trigger in
r8a7790 and r8a7791 match data.

The PL061 driver had the irqdomain initialization in an unfortunate
place: when used with device tree (and thus passing the base IRQ
0) the driver would work, as this registers an irqdomain and waits
for mappings to be done dynamically as the devices request their
IRQs, whereas when booting using platform data the irqdomain core
would attempt to allocate IRQ descriptors dynamically (which works
fine) but also to associate the irq_domain_associate_many() on all
IRQs, which in turn will call the mapping function which at this
point will try to set the type of the IRQ and then tries to acquire
a non-initialized spinlock yielding a backtrace like this:

This moves the irqdomain initialization to a point where the spinlock
and GPIO chip are both fully propulated, so the callbacks can be used
without crashes.
I had some problem reproducing the crash, as the devm_kzalloc():ed
zeroed memory would seemingly mask the spinlock as something OK,
but by poisoning the lock like this:

All OMAP IP blocks expect LE data, but CPU may operate in BE mode.
Need to use endian neutral functions to read/write h/w registers.
I.e instead of __raw_read[lw] and __raw_write[lw] functions code
need to use read[lw]_relaxed and write[lw]_relaxed functions.
If the first simply reads/writes register, the second will byteswap
it if host operates in BE mode.
Changes are trivial sed like replacement of __raw_xxx functions
with xxx_relaxed variant.

The prototype for static GPIO lookup functions has been updated to use
an explicit type for GPIO lookup flags. Unfortunately the definition of
of_find_gpio() when CONFIG_OF is not defined has been omitted, which
triggers a warning. This patch fixes this.

The problem is that "msm_gpio.summary_irq" is unsigned so the error
handling doesn't work. I've fixed it by making it signed.

The problem is that mvchip->irqbase is unsigned so the error handling

GPIO mapping properties were defined using the GPIOF_* flags, which are
declared in linux/gpio.h. This file is not included when using the
GPIO descriptor interface.
This patch declares the flags that can be used as GPIO mappings
properties in linux/gpio/driver.h, and uses them in gpiolib, so that no
deprecated declarations are used by the GPIO descriptor interface.
This patch also allows GPIO_OPEN_DRAIN and GPIO_OPEN_SOURCE to be
specified as GPIO mapping properties.

find_chip_by_name() was incorrectly implemented by using
gpio_lookup_list instead of gpiod_chips to iterate through all the
registered GPIO controllers. This patch reimplements it by using
gpiochip_find() with a custom search function, which simplifies the code
on top of fixing the mistake.

This patch fixes a check for offset in gpio_to_irq_unbanked()
and also assigns gpio_irq, gpio_unbanked of chips[0] to
appropriate values which is used in gpio_to_irq_unbanked()
function.
Without this patch, unbanked IRQ handling is broken.

Commit c111feabe2 (gpio: twl4030: Cache the direction and output
states in private data) improved things in general, but caused a
regression for setting the GPIO output direction.
The change reorganized twl_direction_out() and twl_set() and swapped
the function names around in the process. While doing that, a bug got
introduced that's not obvious while reading the patch as it appears
as no change to the code.
The bug is we now call function twl4030_set_gpio_dataout() twice in
both twl_direction_out() and twl_set(). Instead, we should first
call twl_direction_out() in twl_direction_out() followed by
twl4030_set_gpio_dataout() in twl_set().
This regression probably has gone unnoticed for a long time as the
bootloader may have set the GPIO direction properly in many cases.
This fixes at least the LCD panel not turning on omap3 LDP for
example.

Modify struct acpi_dev_node to contain a pointer to struct acpi_device
associated with the given device object (that is, its ACPI companion
device) instead of an ACPI handle corresponding to it. Introduce two
new macros for manipulating that pointer in a CONFIG_ACPI-safe way,
ACPI_COMPANION() and ACPI_COMPANION_SET(), and rework the
ACPI_HANDLE() macro to take the above changes into account.
Drop the ACPI_HANDLE_SET() macro entirely and rework its users to
use ACPI_COMPANION_SET() instead. For some of them who used to
pass the result of acpi_get_child() directly to ACPI_HANDLE_SET()
introduce a helper routine acpi_preset_companion() doing an
equivalent thing.
The main motivation for doing this is that there are things
represented by struct acpi_device objects that don't have valid
ACPI handles (so called fixed ACPI hardware features, such as
power and sleep buttons) and we would like to create platform
device objects for them and "glue" them to their ACPI companions
in the usual way (which currently is impossible due to the
lack of valid ACPI handles). However, there are more reasons
why it may be useful.
First, struct acpi_device pointers allow of much better type checking
than void pointers which are ACPI handles, so it should be more
difficult to write buggy code using modified struct acpi_dev_node
and the new macros. Second, the change should help to reduce (over
time) the number of places in which the result of ACPI_HANDLE() is
passed to acpi_bus_get_device() in order to obtain a pointer to the
struct acpi_device associated with the given "physical" device,
because now that pointer is returned by ACPI_COMPANION() directly.
Finally, the change should make it easier to write generic code that
will build both for CONFIG_ACPI set and unset without adding explicit
compiler directives to it.

There is a rather horrid merge conflict in tools/perf - I was never
notified of the conflict because it originally occurred between Will's
tree and other stuff. Consequently I have a resolution which Will
forwarded me, which I'll forward on immediately after sending this
mail.
The other notable thing is I'm expecting some build breakage in the
crypto stuff on ARM only with Ard's AES patches. These were merged
into a stable git branch which others had already pulled, so there's
little I can do about this. The problem is caused because these
patches have a dependency on some code in the crypto git tree - I
tried requesting a branch I can pull to resolve these, and all I got
each time from the crypto people was "we'll revert our patches then"
which would only make things worse since I still don't have the
dependent patches. I've no idea what's going on there or how to
resolve that, and since I can't split these patches from the rest of
this pull request, I'm rather stuck with pushing this as-is or
reverting Ard's patches.
Since it should "come out in the wash" I've left them in - the only
build problems they seem to cause at the moment are with randconfigs,
and since it's a new feature anyway. However, if by -rc1 the
dependencies aren't in, I think it'd be best to revert Ard's patches"
I resolved the perf conflict roughly as per the patch sent by Russell,
but there may be some differences. Any errors are likely mine. Let's
see how the crypto issues work out..

- Non-linear GPIO ranges from the gpiolib side of things, this
enabled simplified device tree bindings by referring entire groups
of pins on some pin controller to act as back-end for a certain
GPIO-chip driver.
- Add the Abilis TB10x pin control driver used on the ARC
architecture. Also the corresponding GPIO driver is merged through
this tree, so the ARC has full support for pins and GPIOs after
this.
- Subdrivers for Freescale i.MX1, i.MX27 and i.MX50 pin controller
instances. The i.MX1 and i.MX27 is an entirely new family
(silicon) of controllers whereas i.MX50 is a variant of the
previous supported controller.
- Then the usual slew of fixes, cleanups and incremental updates"
The ARC DT changes are apparently still pending, that hopefully gets
sorted out in a timely manner.

platforms. Nomadik saw more device tree conversions and cleanup of old
code. Tegra has some code refactoring, etc.
One longish patch series from Sebastian Hasselbarth changes the init_time
hooks and tries to use a generic implementation for most platforms,
since they were all doing more or less the same things.
Finally the "shark" platform is removed in this release. It's been
abandoned for a while and nobody seems to care enough to keep it
around. If someone comes along and wants to resurrect it, the removal
can easily be reverted and code brought back.
Beyond this, mostly a bunch of removals of stale content across the

In case of error, the function devm_ioremap_resource() returns ERR_PTR()
and never returns NULL. The NULL test in the return value check should
be replaced with IS_ERR(). Also remove the dev_err call to avoid redundant
error message.

Current Kconfig allows GPIO_DEVRES to be selected and compiled without
GPIOLIB. This does not make sense anymore since GPIOLIB has become the
exclusive way to deal with GPIOs. This patch makes GPIO_DEVRES available
only if GPIOLIB is selected.

The SA1100 was implementing its own variants of gpio_get_value()
and gpio_set_value() and only selectively falling back to
gpiolib for extended (EGPIO) handling. However the driver in
gpio/gpio-sa1100.c already handles the same functionality for
these lines, yet remain unused.
The only upside would be things like a timing-critical hotpath
on bit-banged GPIO, but that kind of things does not seem to
happen on these GPIOs, so it is not worth having the extra
complexity.
Tested with some buttons on the Compaq iPAQ H3630.

The GPIO driver for the Abilis Systems TB10x series of SOCs based on ARC700
CPUs. It supports GPIO control and GPIO interrupt generation. This driver

The ACPI GpioInt resources contain polarity field that is used to specify
whether the interrupt is active high or low. Since gpiolib supports
GPIOF_ACTIVE_LOW we can pass this information in the flags field in
acpi_find_gpio(), analogous to the DeviceTree version.

The new GPIO descriptor based interface is now preferred over the old
integer based one. This patch converts the ACPI GPIO helpers to use this
new interface internally. In addition to that provide compatibility
function acpi_get_gpio_by_index() that converts the returned GPIO
descriptor to an integer.
We also drop acpi_get_gpio() as it is not used anywhere outside
gpiolib-acpi and even there we use acpi_get_gpiod() instead.

Add gpiod_get(), gpiod_get_index() and gpiod_put() functions that
provide safer management of GPIOs.
These functions put the GPIO framework in line with the conventions of
other frameworks in the kernel, and help ensure every GPIO is declared
properly and valid while it is used.

This patch exports the gpiod_* family of API functions, a safer
alternative to the legacy GPIO interface. Differences between the gpiod
and legacy gpio APIs are:
- gpio works with integers, whereas gpiod operates on opaque handlers
which cannot be forged or used before proper acquisition
- gpiod get/set functions are aware of the active low state of a GPIO
- gpio consumers should now include <linux/gpio/consumer.h> to access
the new interface, whereas chips drivers will use
<linux/gpio/driver.h>
The legacy gpio API is now built as inline functions on top of gpiod.

The physical address of the GPIO memory address is already printed
implicitly by dev_info() as part of the device name. The virtual
address doesn't add any value. In addition, printing a resource_size_t
with %x lead to a compiler warning on some platforms.

Whenever an IRQ is claimed or freed, call gpio_lock_as_irq() or
gpio_unlock_as_irq() on the associated GPIO, to prevent that GPIO from
being configured in a manner incompatible with an interrupt.

The OMAP GPIO driver keeps track about GPIO pins that are
used as IRQ lines for two reasons:
1) To prevent GPIO banks to be disabled while one of their
GPIO pins are only used as an interrupt line.
2) To not allow another caller to set the GPIO pin as output.
Now gpiolib has an API to mark GPIO pins as used as IRQ lines
so the GPIO core only allows to set as output GPIO pins not
tied to an IRQ. So there is no need to have custom code for 2).
The IRQ usage still has to be maintained locally for 1) though.

It is currently often possible in many GPIO drivers to request
a GPIO line to be used as IRQ after calling gpio_to_irq() and,
as the gpiolib is not aware of this, set the same line to
output and start driving it, with undesired side effects.
As it is a bogus usage scenario to request a line flagged as
output to used as IRQ, we introduce APIs to let gpiolib track
the use of a line as IRQ, and also set this flag from the
userspace ABI.
The API is symmetric so that lines can also be flagged from
.irq_enable() and unflagged from IRQ by .irq_disable().
The debugfs file is altered so that we see if a line is
reserved for IRQ.

I have no idea why this driver is using __raw* accessors for
reading and writing registers, I suspect it is just force of
habit or copy/paste. Change all to readb()/writeb() except
one chain where I used writeb_relaxed() up until the last
writeb().

When doing this I see that the hwirq argument is used
for mapping rather than the Linux IRQ in the map function.
This doesn't look right. Use the Linux IRQ instead.
I cannot test this patch so I don't know if the mapping change
is correct, however since absolutely every other driver does
it the other way around this doesn't look sound at all. Please
help out with review.

Patch be1a4b brought some improvements to the GPIO error handling code,
but also changed the return value of gpiod_request() when called on a
not yet initialized GPIO descriptor: it now returns -EINVAL instead of
-EPROBE_DEFER, and this affects some drivers.
This patch restores the original behavior for gpiod_request(). It is
safe to do so now that desc_to_gpio() does not rely on the GPIO
descriptor to be initialized. Other functions changed by patch be1a4b
do not see their return value affected, so these are not reverted.

The current implementation of desc_to_gpio() relies on the chip pointer
to be set to a valid value in order to compute the GPIO number. This
was done in the hope that we can get rid of the gpio_desc global array,
but this is not happening anytime soon.
This patch reimplements desc_to_gpio() in a fashion similar to that of
gpio_to_desc(). As a result, desc_to_gpio(gpio_to_desc(gpio)) == gpio is
now always true. This allows to call desc_to_gpio() on non-initialized
descriptors as some error-handling code currently does.

Checking LP_INT_STAT is not enough in the interrupt handler because its
contents get updated regardless of whether the pin has interrupt enabled or
not. This causes the driver to loop forever for GPIOs that are pulled up.
Fix this by checking the interrupt enable bit for the pin as well.
