common pmu functions which are part of perf_event.h and since we
are disabling nvdimm perf interface incase CONFIG_PERF_EVENTS option
is not set, we not need to declare them in nd.h
Also move the platform_device header file addition part from nd.h to
nd_perf.c and add stub functions for register_nvdimm_pmu and
unregister_nvdimm_pmu functions to handle CONFIG_PERF_EVENTS=n
case.

Block Aperture Window support was an attempt to layer an error model
over PMEM for platforms that did not support machine-check-recovery.
However, it was abandoned before it ever shipped, and only ever existed
in the ACPI specification. Meanwhile Linux has carried a large pile of
dead code for non-shipping infrastructure. For years it has been off to
the side out of the way, but now CXL and recent directions with DAX
support have the potential to collide with this code.
In preparation for adding discontiguous namespace support, a
pre-requisite for the nvdimm subsystem to replace device-mapper for
striping + concatenation use cases, delete BLK aperture support.
On the obscure chance that some hardware vendor shipped support for this
mode, note that the driver will still keep BLK space reserved in the
label area. So an end user in this case would still have the opportunity
to report the regression to get BLK-mode support restored without
risking the data they have on that device.

In preparation for removing BLK aperture support the NVDIMM unit tests
discovered that the default alignment can be set higher than the
capacity of the region. Fall back to PAGE_SIZE in that case.
Given this has not been seen in the wild, elide notifying -stable.

A common interface is added to get performance stats reporting
support for nvdimm devices. Added interface defines supported
event list, config fields for the event attributes and their
corresponding bit values which are exported via sysfs.
Interface also added support for pmu register/unregister functions,
cpu hotplug feature along with macros for handling events addition
via sysfs. It adds attribute groups for format, cpumask and events
to the pmu structure.
User could use the standard perf tool to access perf events exposed
via nvdimm pmu.

When CONFIG_PROVE_LOCKING is enabled the 'struct device' definition gets
an additional mutex that is not clobbered by
lockdep_set_novalidate_class() like the typical device_lock(). This
allows for local annotation of subsystem locks with mutex_lock_nested()
per the subsystem's object/lock hierarchy. For CXL, this primarily needs
the ability to lock ports by depth and child objects of ports by their
parent parent-port lock.

Pass the block_device and operation that we plan to use this bio for to
bio_alloc to optimize the assignment. NULL/0 can be passed, both for the
passthrough case on a raw request_queue and to temporarily avoid
refactoring some nasty code.
Also move the gfp_mask argument after the nr_vecs argument for a much
more logical calling convention matching what most of the kernel does.

These methods indirect the actual DAX read/write path. In the end pmem
uses magic flush and mc safe variants and fuse and dcssblk use plain ones
while device mapper picks redirects to the underlying device.
Add set_dax_nocache() and set_dax_nomc() APIs to control which copy
routines are used to remove indirect call from the read/write fast path
as well as a lot of boilerplate code.

We never checked for errors on add_disk() as this function
returned void. Now that this is fixed, use the shiny new
error handling.
Since nvdimm/blk uses devm we just need to move the devm
registration towards the end. And in hindsight, that seems
to also provide a fix given del_gendisk() should not be
called unless the disk was already added via add_disk().
The probably of that issue happening is low though, like
OOM while calling devm_add_action(), so the fix is minor.
We manually unwind in case of add_disk() failure prior
to the devm registration.

If nd_integrity_init() fails we'd get del_gendisk() called,
but that's not correct as we should only call that if we're
done with device_add_disk(). Fix this by providing unwinding
prior to the devm call being registered and moving the devm
registration to the very end.
This should fix calling del_gendisk() if nd_integrity_init()
fails. I only spotted this issue through code inspection. It
does not fix any real world bug.

Originally all DAX access when through block_device operations and thus
needed a queue reference. But since commit cccbce6715
("filesystem-dax: convert to dax_direct_access()") all this happens at
the DAX device level which uses its own refcounting. Having the external
refcount thus wasn't needed but has otherwise been harmless for long
time.
But now that "block: drain file system I/O on del_gendisk" waits for
q_usage_count to reach 0 in del_gendisk this whole scheme can't work
anymore (and pmem is the only driver abusing q_usage_count like that).
So switch to the internal reference and remove the unbalanced
blk_freeze_queue_start that is taken care of by del_gendisk.

Replace the blk_poll interface that requires the caller to keep a queue
and cookie from the submissions with polling based on the bio.
Polling for the bio itself leads to a few advantages:
- the cookie construction can made entirely private in blk-mq.c
- the caller does not need to remember the request_queue and cookie
separately and thus sidesteps their lifetime issues
- keeping the device and the cookie inside the bio allows to trivially
support polling BIOs remapping by stacking drivers
- a lot of code to propagate the cookie back up the submission path can
be removed entirely.

dax_attribute_group is only used by the pmem driver, and can avoid the
completely pointless lookup by the disk name if moved there. This
leaves just a single caller of dax_get_by_host, so move dax_get_by_host
into the same ifdef block as that caller.

Now that all of use sites of label data have been converted to nsl_*
helpers, introduce the CXL label format. The ->cxl flag in
nvdimm_drvdata indicates the label format the device expects. A
follow-on patch allows a bus provider to select the label style.
Note that the EFI definition of the labels represents the Linux "claim
class" with a GUID. The CXL definition of the labels stores the same
identifier in UUID byte order.

The CXL specification defines a mechanism for namespaces to be comprised
of multiple dis-contiguous ranges. Introduce that concept to the legacy
NVDIMM namespace implementation with a new nsl_set_nrange() helper, that
sets the number of ranges to 1. Once the NVDIMM subsystem supports CXL
labels and updates its namespace capacity provisioning for
dis-contiguous support nsl_set_nrange() can be updated, but in the
meantime CXL label validation requires nrange be non-zero.

In the CXL namespace label there is no need for nlabel since that is
inferred from the region. Add a helper that moves nsl_get_label() behind
a helper that validates the number of labels relative to the region.

In preparation for CXL labels that move the uuid to a different offset
in the label, add nsl_{ref,get,validate}_uuid(). These helpers use the
proper uuid_t type. That type definition predated the libnvdimm
subsystem, so now is as a good a time as any to convert all the uuid
handling in the subsystem to uuid_t to match the helpers.
Note that the uuid fields in the label data and superblocks is not
replaced per Andy's expectation that uuid_t is a kernel internal type
not to appear in external ABI interfaces. So, in those case
{import,export}_uuid() is used to go between the 2 types.
Also note that this rework uncovered some unnecessary copies for label
comparisons, those are cleaned up with nsl_uuid_equal().
As for the whitespace changes, all new code is clang-format compliant.

These do change a number of different things across different
subsystems, and because of that, there were 2 stable tags created that
might have already come into your tree from different pulls that did the
following
- changed the bus remove callback to return void
- sysfs iomem_get_mapping rework
The latter one will cause a tiny merge issue with your tree, as there
was a last-minute fix for this in 5.14 in your tree, but the fixup
should be "obvious". If you want me to provide a fixed merge for this,
please let me know.
Other than those two things, there's only a few small things in here:
- kernfs performance improvements for huge numbers of sysfs
users at once
- tiny api cleanups
- other minor changes
All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported
problems, other than the before-mentioned merge issue.

helpers that abstract the label type from the implementation. The CXL
label format is mostly similar to the EFI label format with concepts /
fields added, like dynamic region creation and label type guids, and
other concepts removed like BLK-mode and interleave-set-cookie ids.
CXL labels do have the concept of a claim class represented by an
"abstraction" identifier. It turns out both label implementations use
the same ids, but EFI encodes them as GUIDs and CXL labels encode them
as UUIDs. For now abstract out the claim class such that the UUID vs
GUID distinction can later be hidden in the helper.

concept, wrap the existing users with nsl_set_type_guid, and
nsl_validate_type_guid. Recall that the type-guid is a value in the ACPI

There are a few scenarios where init_active_labels() can return without
registering deactivate_labels() to run when the region is disabled. In
particular label error injection creates scenarios where a DIMM is
disabled, but labels on other DIMMs in the region become activated.
Arrange for init_active_labels() to always register deactivate_labels().

The driver core ignores the return value of this callback because there
is only little it can do when a device disappears.
This is the final bit of a long lasting cleanup quest where several
buses were converted to also return void from their remove callback.
Additionally some resource leaks were fixed that were caused by drivers
returning an error code in the expectation that the driver won't go
away.
With struct bus_type::remove returning void it's prevented that newly
implemented buses return an ignored error code and so don't anticipate
wrong expectations for driver authors.

CXL is a hotplug bus and arranges for nvdimm devices to be dynamically
discovered and removed. The libnvdimm core manages shutdown of nvdimm
security operations when the device is unregistered. That functionality
is moved to nvdimm_delete() and invoked by the CXL-to-nvdimm glue code.

Automatically set the GENHD_FL_EXT_DEVT flag for all disks allocated
without an explicit number of minors. This is what all new block

My UEK-derived config has 1030 files depending on pagemap.h before this
change. Afterwards, just 326 files need to be rebuilt when I touch
pagemap.h. I think blkdev.h is probably included too widely, but
untangling that dependency is harder and this solves my problem. x86
allmodconfig builds, but there may be implicit include problems on other
architectures.

In case a platform doesn't provide explicit flush-hints but provides an
explicit flush callback via ND_REGION_ASYNC region flag, then
nvdimm_has_flush() still returns '0' indicating that writes do not
require flushing. This happens on PPC64 with patch at [1] applied, where
'deep_flush' of a region was denied even though an explicit flush
function was provided.
Fix this by adding a condition to nvdimm_has_flush() to test for the
ND_REGION_ASYNC flag on the region and see if a 'region->flush' callback
is assigned.

Previous kernels allowed the BLKROSET to override the disk's read-only
status. With that situation fixed the pmem driver needs to rely on
notification events to reevaluate the disk read-only status after the
host region has been marked read-write.
Recall that when libnvdimm determines that the persistent memory has
lost persistence (for example lack of energy to flush from DRAM to FLASH
on an NVDIMM-N device) it marks the region read-only, but that state can
be overridden by the user via:
echo 0 > /sys/bus/nd/devices/regionX/read_only
...to date there is no notification that the region has restored
persistence, so the user override is the only recovery.

All drivers return 0 in their remove callback and the driver core ignores
the return value of nvdimm_bus_remove() anyhow. So simplify by changing
the driver remove callback to return void and return 0 unconditionally
to the upper layer.

nvdimm_remove is only ever called after nvdimm_probe() returned
successfully. In this case driver data is always set to a non-NULL value
so the check for driver data being NULL can go away as it's always false.

Legacy pmem namespaces lost support for the "resource" attribute when
the code was cleaned up to put the permission visibility in the
declaration. Restore this by listing 'resource' in the default
attributes.
A new ndctl regression test for pfn_to_online_page() corner cases builds

Replace the gendisk pointer in struct bio with a pointer to the newly
improved struct block device. From that the gendisk can be trivially
accessed with an extra indirection, but it also allows to directly
look up all information related to partition remapping.

* drivers/nvdimm/core.c doesn't use anything from badblocks.h on its own,
thus including it isn't needed. There's indeed indirect use, via funcs
in nd.h, but this one already includes badblocks.h.
* drivers/nvdimm/claim.c calls stuff from badblocks.h and therefore should
include it on its own (instead of relying any other header doing that)
* drivers/nvdimm/btt.h doesn't really need anything from badblocks.h and
can easily live with a forward declaration of struct badblocks (just
having pointers to it, but not dereferencing it anywhere)

A recent change to ndctl to attempt to reconfigure namespaces in place
uncovered a label accounting problem in block-window-type namespaces.

When allocated capacity for a namespace is renamed (new UUID) the labels
with the old UUID need to be deleted. The ndctl behavior to always
destroy namespaces on reconfiguration hid this problem.
The immediate impact of this bug is limited since block-window-type
namespaces only seem to exist in the specification and not in any
shipping products. However, the label handling code is being reused for
other technologies like CXL region labels, so there is a benefit to
making sure both vertical labels sets (block-window) and horizontal
label sets (pmem) have a functional reference implementation in
libnvdimm.

In support of device-dax growing the ability to front physically
dis-contiguous ranges of memory, update devm_memremap_pages() to track
multiple ranges with a single reference counter and devm instance.
Convert all [devm_]memremap_pages() users to specify the number of ranges
they are mapping in their 'struct dev_pagemap' instance.

The 'struct resource' in 'struct dev_pagemap' is only used for holding
resource span information. The other fields, 'name', 'flags', 'desc',
'parent', 'sibling', and 'child' are all unused wasted space.
This is in preparation for introducing a multi-range extension of
devm_memremap_pages().
The bulk of this change is unwinding all the places internal to libnvdimm
that used 'struct resource' unnecessarily, and replacing instances of

In reaction to a proposal to introduce a memcpy_mcsafe_fast()
implementation Linus points out that memcpy_mcsafe() is poorly named
relative to communicating the scope of the interface. Specifically what
addresses are valid to pass as source, destination, and what faults /
exceptions are handled.
Of particular concern is that even though x86 might be able to handle
the semantics of copy_mc_to_user() with its common copy_user_generic()
implementation other archs likely need / want an explicit path for this
case:

Replace a single top-level memcpy_mcsafe() with either
copy_mc_to_user(), or copy_mc_to_kernel().
Introduce an x86 copy_mc_fragile() name as the rename for the
low-level x86 implementation formerly named memcpy_mcsafe(). It is used
as the slow / careful backend that is supplanted by a fast
copy_mc_generic() in a follow-on patch.
One side-effect of this reorganization is that separating copy_mc_64.S
to its own file means that perf no longer needs to track dependencies
for its memcpy_64.S benchmarks.

BDI_CAP_SYNCHRONOUS_IO is only checked in the swap code, and used to
decided if ->rw_page can be used on a block device. Just check up for
the method instead. The only complication is that zram needs a second
set of block_device_operations as it can switch between modes that
actually support ->rw_page and those who don't.

The nvdimm block driver abuse revalidate_disk in a strange way, and
totally unrelated to what other drivers do. Simplify this by just
calling nvdimm_revalidate_disk (which seems rather misnamed) from the
probe routines, as the additional bdev size revalidation is pointless
at this point, and remove the revalidate_disk methods given that
it can only be triggered from add_disk, which is right before the
manual calls.

Pull powerpc updates from Michael Ellerman:
- Add support for (optionally) using queued spinlocks & rwlocks.
- Support for a new faster system call ABI using the scv instruction on
Power9 or later.
- Drop support for the PROT_SAO mmap/mprotect flag as it will be
unsupported on Power10 and future processors, leaving us with no way
to implement the functionality it requests. This risks breaking
userspace, though we believe it is unused in practice.
- A bug fix for, and then the removal of, our custom stack expansion
checking. We now allow stack expansion up to the rlimit, like other
architectures.
- Remove the remnants of our (previously disabled) topology update
code, which tried to react to NUMA layout changes on virtualised
systems, but was prone to crashes and other problems.
- Add PMU support for Power10 CPUs.
- A change to our signal trampoline so that we don't unbalance the link
stack (branch return predictor) in the signal delivery path.
- Lots of other cleanups, refactorings, smaller features and so on as
usual.

commit 7d988097c5 ("acpi/nfit, libnvdimm/security: Add security DSM overwrite support")
adds a sysfs_notify_dirent() to wake up userspace poll thread when the "overwrite"
operation has completed. But the notification is issued before the internal
dimm security state and flags have been updated, so the userspace poll thread
wakes up and fetches the not-yet-updated attr and falls back to sleep, forever.
But if user from another terminal issue "ndctl wait-overwrite nmemX" again,
the command returns instantly.

'security' attribute displays the security state of an nvdimm.
During normal operation, the nvdimm state maybe one of 'disabled',
'unlocked' or 'locked'. When an admin issues
# ndctl sanitize-dimm nmem0 --overwrite
the attribute is expected to change to 'overwrite' until the overwrite
operation completes.
But tests on our systems show that 'overwrite' is never shown during
the overwrite operation. i.e.
# cat /sys/devices/LNXSYSTM:00/LNXSYBUS:00/ACPI0012:00/ndbus0/nmem0/security
unlocked
the attribute remain 'unlocked' through out the operation, consequently
"ndctl wait-overwrite nmem0" command doesn't wait at all.
The driver tracks the state in 'nvdimm->sec.flags': when the operation
starts, it adds an overwrite bit to the flags; and when the operation
completes, it removes the bit. Hence security_show() should check the
'overwrite' bit first, in order to indicate the actual state when multiple
bits are set in the flags.
