Tony Lindgren a630fbfbb1 serial: omap: Fix device tree based PM runtime
In the runtime_suspend function pdata is not being used, and
also blocks the function in device tree based booting. Fix it
by removing the unused pdata from the runtime_suspend function.

Further, context loss count is not being passed in pdata, so
let's just reinitialize the port every time for those case.
This can be further optimized later on for the device tree
case by adding detection for the hardware state and possibly
by adding a driver specific autosuspend timeout.

And doing this, we can then make the related dev_err into a
dev_dbg message instead of an error.

In order for the wake-up events to work, we also need to set
autosuspend_timeout to -1 if 0, and also device_init_wakeup()
as that's not being done by the platform init code for the
device tree case.

Note that this does not affect legacy booting, and in fact
might make it work for the cases where the context loss info
is not being passed in pdata.

Fabio Estevam 80c48497f2 serial: imx: Fix serial clock unbalance
Since commit 0c375501 (serial: imx: enable the clocks for console), the
imx_startup() function calls clk_prepare_enable conditionally, so we
need to call clk_disable_unprepare inside imx_shutdown() under the same
condition to avoid unbalanced clock calls.

This avoids the following warning:

Matteo Facchinetti 8a29dfb8b6 serial/mpc52xx_uart: fix kernel panic when system reboot
This bug appear when a second PSC based driver appends an interrupt
routine to the FIFO controller shared interrupt (like spi-mpc512x-psc).
When reboot, uart_shutdown() remove the serial console interrupt handler
while spi-mpc512x-psc isr is still activate and cause the following kernel

Peter Hurley 7c61c3d8f4 tty: Fix transient pty write() EIO
Commit 699390354d
('pty: Ignore slave pty close() if never successfully opened')
introduced a bug with ptys whereby a write() in parallel with an
open() on an existing pty could mistakenly indicate an I/O error.

Only indicate an I/O error if the condition on open() actually exists.

Ross Lagerwall ef223fb3d1 tty/vt: Return EBUSY if deallocating VT1 and it is busy
Commit 421b40a628 ("tty/vt: Fix vc_deallocate() lock order") changed
the behavior when deallocating VT 1.  Previously if trying to
deallocate VT1 and it is busy, we would return EBUSY.  The commit
changed this to return 0 (success).

This commit restores the old behavior.

Huang Shijie 0c375501be serial: imx: enable the clocks for console
The console's clocks are disabled after the uart driver is probed.
It makes that we can see less log from the console now
(though we still can get all the log by the `dmesg`).

So enable the clocks for console, and we can see all the log again.

This patch also disables the sport->clk_per when we fail to enable
the sport->clk_ipg;

Huang Shijie 28eb4274e7 serial: imx: enable the clocks only when the uart is used
Current code opens the clocks when the uart driver is probed.
This will wastes some power if several uarts are enabled, but not really
used.

So close these clocks for uart, and enable the clocks only when
the uart is used.

Mathieu J. Poirier 3d289517df Input: sysrq - request graceful shutdown for key reset
Attempt to reboot the system gracefully when a key combo is detected.
If the reste combination is pressed the 2nd time we assume that graceful
reboot failed and perform emergency reboot. This fucntionality is useful
when UI is stuck but the system is otherwise working fine.

Rafael J. Wysocki 45f0a85c82 PM / Runtime: Rework the "runtime idle" helper routine
The "runtime idle" helper routine, rpm_idle(), currently ignores
return values from .runtime_idle() callbacks executed by it.
However, it turns out that many subsystems use
pm_generic_runtime_idle() which checks the return value of the
driver's callback and executes pm_runtime_suspend() for the device
unless that value is not 0.  If that logic is moved to rpm_idle()
instead, pm_generic_runtime_idle() can be dropped and its users
will not need any .runtime_idle() callbacks any more.

Moreover, the PCI, SCSI, and SATA subsystems' .runtime_idle()
routines, pci_pm_runtime_idle(), scsi_runtime_idle(), and
ata_port_runtime_idle(), respectively, as well as a few drivers'
ones may be simplified if rpm_idle() calls rpm_suspend() after 0 has
been returned by the .runtime_idle() callback executed by it.

To reduce overall code bloat, make the changes described above.

psc_ops functions for SoC specific register accesses.

Add new register access functions to the psc_ops structure and
provide MPC52xx and MPC512x specific implementation for them.
Then replace remaining direct register accesses in the driver by
appropriate psc_ops function calls. The subsequent patch can now
add MPC5125 specific set of psc_ops functions.

Jingoo Han 696faedd61 serial: use platform_{get,set}_drvdata()
Use the wrapper functions for getting and setting the driver data using
platform_device instead of using dev_{get,set}_drvdata() with &pdev->dev,
so we can directly pass a struct platform_device.

Also, unnecessary dev_set_drvdata() is removed, because the driver core
clears the driver data to NULL after device_release or on probe failure.

Kyle McMartin 317a68427d Revert "serial: 8250: Make SERIAL_8250_RUNTIME_UARTS work correctly"
This reverts commit cfcec52e97.

This regresses a longstanding behaviour on X86 systems, which end up with
PCI serial ports moving between ttyS4 and ttyS0 when you bisect to opposite
sides of this commit, resulting in the need to constantly modify the console
setting in order to bisect across it.

Please revert, we can work on solving this for ARM platforms in a less
disruptive way.

Peter Hurley 4898e640ca tty: Add timed, writer-prioritized rw semaphore
The semantics of a rw semaphore are almost ideally suited
for tty line discipline lifetime management;  multiple active
threads obtain "references" (read locks) while performing i/o
to prevent the loss or change of the current line discipline
(write lock).

Unfortunately, the existing rw_semaphore is ill-suited in other
ways;
1) TIOCSETD ioctl (change line discipline) expects to return an
   error if the line discipline cannot be exclusively locked within
   5 secs. Lock wait timeouts are not supported by rwsem.
2) A tty hangup is expected to halt and scrap pending i/o, so
   exclusive locking must be prioritized.
   Writer priority is not supported by rwsem.

Add ld_semaphore which implements these requirements in a
semantically similar way to rw_semaphore.

Writer priority is handled by separate wait lists for readers and
writers. Pending write waits are priortized before existing read
waits and prevent further read locks.

Wait timeouts are trivially added, but obviously change the lock
semantics as lock attempts can fail (but only due to timeout).

This implementation incorporates the write-lock stealing work of
Michel Lespinasse <walken@google.com>.

Wang YanQing dab73b4eb9 TTY: Fix tty miss restart after we turn off flow-control
I meet emacs hang in start if I do the operation below:
  1: echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches
  2: emacs BigFile
  3: Press CTRL-S follow 2 immediately

Then emacs hang on, CTRL-Q can't resume, the terminal
hang on, you can do nothing with this terminal except
close it.

The reason is before emacs takeover control the tty,
we use CTRL-S to XOFF it. Then when emacs takeover the
control, it may don't use the flow-control, so emacs hang.
This patch fix it.

This patch will fix a kind of strange tty relation hang problem,
I believe I meet it with vim in ssh, and also see below bug report:

of the tty port (and the flip buffers) must ensure that no

For single console deallocation, drop the console_lock prior
to port destruction. When multiple console deallocation,
defer port destruction until the consoles have been
deallocated.

tty_port_destroy() is not required if the port has not
been used; remove from vc_allocate() failure path.

Lee Jones f6b6f52b58 serial: pl011: protect attribute read from NULL platform data struct
It's completely feasible that platform data will be empty i.e. when

Ezequiel Garcia dbd2df859a serial: 8250_dw: Add valid clk pointer check
Commit ffc3ae6dd "serial: 8250_dw: Enable runtime PM" introduced runtime
PM management, which enables/disables the clk without checking if the clk
is valid. However, this driver allows to be probed without a defined clk,
using clock-frequency, as a fallback.

Therefore, on platforms that are device tree probed using clock-frequency
instead of clk, we get an ugly NULL pointer dereference.

This patch fixes it by simply adding a check before accessing the clk api.

Santosh Shilimkar 7f18d05a1a SERIAL: OMAP: Remove the slave idle handling from the driver
UART IP slave idle handling now taken care by runtime pm backend(hwmod layer)
so remove the hackery from the driver.

As discussed on the list, in future if dma mode needs to be brought
back to this driver, UART sysc handling needs to be updated in
framework such a way that no-idle/force idle profile can be supported.
Given the broken dma mode for OMAP uarts, its very unlikely.

Linus Torvalds b0b885657b tty: fix up atime/mtime mess, take three
We first tried to avoid updating atime/mtime entirely (commit
b0de59b5733d: "TTY: do not update atime/mtime on read/write"), and then
limited it to only update it occasionally (commit 37b7f3c76595: "TTY:
fix atime/mtime regression"), but it turns out that this was both
insufficient and overkill.

It was insufficient because we let people attach to the shared ptmx node
to see activity without even reading atime/mtime, and it was overkill
because the "only once a minute" means that you can't really tell an
idle person from an active one with 'w'.

So this tries to fix the problem properly.  It marks the shared ptmx
node as un-notifiable, and it lowers the "only once a minute" to a few
seconds instead - still long enough that you can't time individual
keystrokes, but short enough that you can tell whether somebody is
active or not.

Eric Paris bee0a224e7 audit: do not needlessly take a lock in tty_audit_exit
We were doing spin_lock_irq and spin_unlock_irq.  This is STOOPID.

If we were in interupt context we were already screwed and called
panic() in do_exit().  So the irq stuff is useless.  Also, these values
can only be changed by receiving a netlink message from current.  Since
we are in do_exit() clearly we aren't in the syscall sending the netlink
message to change these values.  Thus, just read them and go with it.

Richard Guy Briggs 46e959ea29 audit: add an option to control logging of passwords with pam_tty_audit
Most commands are entered one line at a time and processed as complete lines
in non-canonical mode.  Commands that interactively require a password, enter
canonical mode to do this while shutting off echo.  This pair of features
(icanon and !echo) can be used to avoid logging passwords by audit while still
logging the rest of the command.

Adding a member (log_passwd) to the struct audit_tty_status passed in by
pam_tty_audit allows control of canonical mode without echo per task.

Some of the callers of the audit tty function use spin_lock_irqsave/restore.
We were using the forced always enable version, which seems really bad.
Since I don't know every one of these code paths well enough, it makes
sense to just switch everything to the safe version.  Maybe it's a
little overzealous, but it's a lot better than an unlucky deadlock when
we return to a caller with irq enabled and they expect it to be
disabled.

Jiri Slaby 37b7f3c765 TTY: fix atime/mtime regression
In commit b0de59b573 ("TTY: do not update atime/mtime on read/write")
we removed timestamps from tty inodes to fix a security issue and waited
if something breaks.  Well, 'w', the utility to find out logged users
and their inactivity time broke.  It shows that users are inactive since
the time they logged in.

To revert to the old behaviour while still preventing attackers to
guess the password length, we update the timestamps in one-minute
intervals by this patch.

not work out because of dependencies on the dmaengine driver. All the
changes for the dmaengine code are merged in 3.9 now, so we can finally

spear13xx from the platform code.

The dma platform_data actually made up the majority of the spear13xx
platform code overall, so moving that into device tree files makes the
code substantially smaller.

Jongsung Kim 78506f223a ARM: PL011: add support for extended FIFO-size of PL011-r1p5
The latest r1p5-revision of the ARM PL011 UART has 32-byte FIFOs,
while all earlier ones have 16-byte FIFOs. This patch suggests
a way to set the FIFO-size correctly & flexibly by using a member
function named get_fifosize, rather than using the fifosize member
variable. The function takes the UARTPeriphID, and returns the
correct FIFO size.

The serial core uses device_find_child() but does not drop the reference to
the retrieved child after using it. This patch add the missing put_device().

What I have done to test this issue.

I used a machine with an AMBA PL011 serial driver. I tested the patch on
next-20120408 because the last branch [next-20120415] does not boot on this
board.

For test purpose, I added some pr_info() messages to print the refcount

Heikki Krogerus e4fb3b88eb serial: 8250_dma: Use dmaengine helpers to get the slave channels
The helper functions in dmaengine API allow the drivers to
request slave channels without the filter parameters. They
will attempt to extract the needed DMA client information
from DT or ACPI, but if such information is not available
the filter parameters can still be used.

Arnd Bergmann 9ee51f01ee tty: serial/samsung: make register definitions global
The registers for the Samsung S3C serial port are currently defined in
the platform specific arch/arm/plat-samsung/include/plat/regs-serial.h
file, which is not visible to multiplatform capable drivers.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to move the file into a more local
place as we should normally try to, because the same registers
may be used in one of four places:

* In the driver itself
* In platform-independent ARM code for early debug output
* In platform_data definitions
* In the Samsung platform power management code

I have also found no way to logically split out a platform_data
file, other than possibly move everything into
include/linux/platform_data, which also felt wrong. The only
part of this file that makes sense to keep specific to the s3c24xx
platform are the virtual and physical addresses defined here,
which are needed in no other location.

CPU 2 has just flushed and freed all tty flip buffers while CPU 1 is
transferring data from the head flip buffer.

The original patch was rejected under the assumption that parallel
flush_to_ldisc() was not possible. Because of necessary changes to
the workqueue api, work items can execute in parallel on SMP.

This patch differs slightly from the original patch by testing for
a pending flush _after_ each receive_buf(), since TTYP_FLUSHPENDING
can only be set while the lock is dropped around receive_buf().

Mathieu J. Poirier 3903078677 Input: sysrq - supplement reset sequence with timeout functionality
Some devices have too few buttons, which it makes it hard to have
a reset combo that won't trigger automatically.  As such a
timeout functionality that requires the combination to be held for
a given amount of time before triggering is introduced.

If a key combo is recognized and held for a 'timeout' amount of time,
the system triggers a reset.  If the timeout value is omitted the
driver simply ignores the functionality.

Chanho Min cb06ff102e ARM: PL011: Add support for Rx DMA buffer polling.
In DMA support, The received data is not pushed to tty until the DMA buffer
is filled. But some megabyte rate chips such as BT expect fast response and
data should be pushed immediately. In order to fix this issue, We suggest
the use of the timer for polling DMA buffer.
In our test, no data loss occurred at high-baudrate as compared with interrupt-
driven (We tested with 3Mbps).
We changes:

- We add timer for polling. If we set poll_timer to 10, every 10ms,
 timer handler checks the residue in the dma buffer and transfer data
 to the tty. Also, last_residue is updated for the next polling.

- poll_timeout is used to prevent the timer's system cost.
  If poll_timeout is set to 3000 and no data is received in 3 seconds,
  we inactivate poll timer and driver falls back to interrupt-driven.
  When data is received again in FIFO and UART irq is occurred, we switch
  back to DMA mode and start polling.

- We use consistent DMA mappings to avoid from the frequent cache operation
  of the timer function for default.

- pl011_dma_rx_chars is modified. the pending size is recalculated because
  data can be taken by polling.

- the polling time is adjusted if dma rx poll is enabled but no rate is
  specified. Ideal polling interval to push 1 character at every interval
  is the reciprocal of 'baud rate / 10 line bits per character / 1000 ms
  per sec'. But It is very aggressive to system. Experimentally,
 '10000000 / baud' is suitable to receive dozens of characters. the poll rate
 can be specified statically by dma_rx_poll_rate of the platform data as well.

Changes compared to v1:
 - Use of consistent DMA mappings.
 - Added dma_rx_poll_rate in platform data to specify the polling interval.
 - Added dma_rx_poll_timeout in platform data to specify the polling timeout.

 - Use of consistent DMA mappings for default.
 - Added dma_rx_poll_enable in platform data to adjust the polling time
   according to the baud rate.
 - remove unnecessary lock from the polling function.

Michael Spang 38adbc54ce serial: samsung: Avoid waiting forever for TX ready
The no_console_suspend option allows the console to write to the UART
during early resume, before the serial port itself is resumed. Such
writes hang indefinitely waiting for TX ready.

This adds a check to the console putchar function to drop characters
instead of hanging if the port hasn't been initialized. That way, we
can use no_console_suspend without risk of hanging.

a bug caused by multiple request_irq calls in port startup callback is
fixed.

Consider a situation where I have an ARM based system
and therefore no legacy ports. Say, I have two
memory-mapped ports. I use device tree to describe the
ports. What would be the config options I set so that
I get only the two ports in my system? I do not want
legacy ports being created automatically and I want
it to be flexible enough that it creates the devices
based only on the device tree. I expected setting
SERIAL_8250_RUNTIME_UARTS = 0 to work because the
description said, "Set this to the maximum number of
serial ports you want the kernel to register at boot
time." Unfortunately, even though SERIAL_8250_NR_UARTS
was set to the default value of 4, I did not get any device
nodes (because SERIAL_8250_RUNTIME_UARTS was 0). This
is what this change is addressing.

SERIAL_8250_NR_UARTS controls the maximum number of ports
you can support. SERIAL_8250_RUNTIME_UARTS specifies the
number of ports you want to create automatically for legacy
ports at boot time. All other ports will be created
when serial8250_register_port is called (and if does not exceed
the total number of supported ports as specified by
SERIAL_8250_NR_UARTS).

The Boot ROM has an issue which will cause the driver to
lock up as pending irqs are not being cleared. With them
cleared it prevents that issue.

This patch is needed for the current (3.9-rc3) mainline kernel. I guess
it went unnoticed, because it was only tested with u-boot up until now.
And u-boot maybe handles this.

Jiri Slaby 9196d8acd7 TTY: 8250, revert module name change
In 3.7 the 8250 module name was changed unintentionally from 8250 to
8250_core by commit 835d844d1a
(8250_pnp: do pnp probe before legacy probe). We then had to
re-introduce the old module options to ensure the old good
8250.nr_uart & co. still work. This can be done only by a very dirty
hack and we did it in f2b8dfd9e4
(serial: 8250: Keep 8250.<xxxx> module options functional after driver
rename).

That is so damn ugly so that I decided to revert to the old module
name and deprecate the new 8250_core options present in 3.7 and 3.8
only. The deprecation will happen in the following patch.

Note that this patch changes the hack above to support "8250_core.*",
because we now have "8250.*" natively.

Steffen Trumtrar 30215c3b8f serial: xilinx_uartps: remove superfluous IDR write
The datesheet clearly states, that writing low bits to the
XUARTPS_IDR register have no effect. Remove the write.
