The second part of the multiplatform changes now converts the
Intel/Marvell PXA platform along with the rest. The patches went through
several rebases before the merge window as bugs were found, so they
remained separate.
This has to touch a lot of drivers, in particular the touchscreen,
pcmcia, sound and clk bits, to detach the driver files from the
platform and board specific header files.

The host stream position is updated when no_stream_position is set as 0.
However current implementation updates host stream position only when
report data is larger than or equal to host period size which is decided
by the period size of host side. It maybe cause host stream position
update not in time. Therefore this patch introduces another field
"cont_update_posn", a boolean value aimed to update host stream position
continuously and based on period size of pipeline. It can get better
precise when need to update host stream position from firmware.

Merge series from Pierre-Louis Bossart <pierre-louis.bossart@linux.intel.com>:
With additional tests with the introduction of a 'deep-buffer' PCM
device mixed with the regular low-latency path, we came up with two
improvements in the BE state machine and transitions. The short
explanation is that the BE cannot directly use the trigger commands
provided by the FE, and a translation is needed to deal with paused
states.
Commit 3aa1e96a2b ("ASoC: soc-pcm: fix BE handling of PAUSE_RELEASE")
did not modify the existing logic and kept the same logic for the following
transition
play FE1 -> BE state is START
pause FE1 -> BE state is PAUSED
play FE2 -> BE state is START
stop FE2 -> BE state is STOP <<< !!
release FE1 -> BE state is START
stop FE1 -> BE state is STOP
At the time it was identified by reviewers that a better solution
might consist in
play FE1 -> BE state is START
pause FE1 -> BE state is PAUSED
play FE2 -> BE state is START
stop FE2 -> BE state is PAUSE <<< !!
release FE1 -> BE state is START
stop FE1 -> BE state is STOP
This patch suggest a transition to PAUSE when all the 'active' streams
are paused. This would allow for a more consistent resource management
for platforms where PAUSE and STOP are handled differently.
To track the special case of an FE going from PAUSE_PUSH to STOP, we
add a state variable for each FE context. This 'fe_pause' boolean is
set on PAUSE_PUSH and cleared on either PAUSE_RELEASE and STOP
triggers.

Now that we start having multiple platforms with minor variants, the
use of the const qualifier for 'dsp_ops' is starting to be
sub-optimal: the structures are copied across platforms, with only a
couple of members that differ.
This patch removes the const qualifier without any functionality
changes, and adds an optional initialization callback. In follow-up
patches, the dsp_ops will revisited for Intel HDaudio platforms, with
the differences added programmatically over a common baseline.

The recent change for memory allocator replaced the SG-buffer handling
helper for x86 with the standard non-contiguous page handler. This
works for most cases, but there is a corner case I obviously
overlooked, namely, the fallback of non-contiguous handler without
IOMMU. When the system runs without IOMMU, the core handler tries to
use the continuous pages with a single SGL entry. It works nicely for
most cases, but when the system memory gets fragmented, the large
allocation may fail frequently.
Ideally the non-contig handler could deal with the proper SG pages,
it's cumbersome to extend for now. As a workaround, here we add new
types for (minimalistic) SG allocations, instead, so that the
allocator falls back to those types automatically when the allocation
with the standard API failed.
BTW, one better (but pretty minor) improvement from the previous
SG-buffer code is that this provides the proper mmap support without
the PCM's page fault handling.

This is a small helper function to handle the error path more easily
when an error happens during the probe for the device with the
device-managed card. Since devres releases in the reverser order of
the creations, usually snd_card_free() gets called at the last in the
probe error path unless it already reached snd_card_register() calls.
Due to this nature, when a driver expects the resource releases in
card->private_free, this might be called too lately.
As a workaround, one should call the probe like:
static int __some_probe(...) { // do real probe.... }
static int some_probe(...)
{
return snd_card_free_on_error(dev, __some_probe(dev, ...));
}
so that the snd_card_free() is called explicitly at the beginning of
the error path from the probe.
This function will be used in the upcoming fixes to address the
regressions by devres usages.

HDA Jack detection logic doesn't work when the HDACODEC
in runtime suspended state as unsol event won't be triggered
during D3 state. As pulseaudio server in userspace rely on the
jack mixer control status to show the audio devices in gui and
any display sink device hotplug event during D3 state will never
updates the jack status which will result in no audio device option
available in userspace settings.
The possible option available to resolve this issue is to run Jack
polling worker thread even after codec suspend state. The choice can
be made based on compromise between power saving or Jack detection in
suspend state.

Allow the component debugfs_prefix to be set from
snd_soc_component_driver. First use case is avoiding a duplicate
debugfs entry error in case a device has multiple components
which have the same name therefore.
Note that we don't set component->debugfs_prefix if it's set already.
That's needed because partially component->debugfs_prefix is set
before calling snd_soc_component_initialize().

Add a helper function snd_soc_tdm_params_to_bclk() to calculate
the bclk from params info and the tdm sots configuration.
When using a TDM frame of N slots of width W bits:
bclk = sample_rate * N * W
As a convenience to simplify calling code, if the slot count or
slot width are 0 a value will be obtained from the params. This
allows calling code to use this one function to handle cases of
TDM where only one parameter is fixed, or I2S where the slot width
is fixed (for example to set a 32-bit slot for 24-bit samples).
Also as a convenience the slot count can optionally be rounded up
to a multiple. This is mainly useful for I2S systems, since I2S has
two phases of LRCLK the number of slots is always a multiple of 2.

syzbot caught a potential deadlock between the PCM
runtime->buffer_mutex and the mm->mmap_lock. It was brought by the
recent fix to cover the racy read/write and other ioctls, and in that
commit, I overlooked a (hopefully only) corner case that may take the
revert lock, namely, the OSS mmap. The OSS mmap operation
exceptionally allows to re-configure the parameters inside the OSS
mmap syscall, where mm->mmap_mutex is already held. Meanwhile, the
copy_from/to_user calls at read/write operations also take the
mm->mmap_lock internally, hence it may lead to a AB/BA deadlock.
A similar problem was already seen in the past and we fixed it with a
refcount (in commit b248371628). The former fix covered only the
call paths with OSS read/write and OSS ioctls, while we need to cover
the concurrent access via both ALSA and OSS APIs now.
This patch addresses the problem above by replacing the buffer_mutex
lock in the read/write operations with a refcount similar as we've
used for OSS. The new field, runtime->buffer_accessing, keeps the
number of concurrent read/write operations. Unlike the former
buffer_mutex protection, this protects only around the
copy_from/to_user() calls; the other codes are basically protected by
the PCM stream lock. The refcount can be a negative, meaning blocked
by the ioctls. If a negative value is seen, the read/write aborts
with -EBUSY. In the ioctl side, OTOH, they check this refcount, too,
and set to a negative value for blocking unless it's already being
accessed.

Currently we have neither proper check nor protection against the
concurrent calls of PCM hw_params and hw_free ioctls, which may result
in a UAF. Since the existing PCM stream lock can't be used for
protecting the whole ioctl operations, we need a new mutex to protect
those racy calls.
This patch introduced a new mutex, runtime->buffer_mutex, and applies
it to both hw_params and hw_free ioctl code paths. Along with it, the
both functions are slightly modified (the mmap_count check is moved
into the state-check block) for code simplicity.

Merge series from Ranjani Sridharan <ranjani.sridharan@linux.intel.com>:
In preparation for adding support for the new IPC version that has been
introduced in the SOF firmware, this patch set includes some clean ups
and necessary modifications to commonly used functions that will be
re-used across different IPC-specific code.
Different topology filenames may be required depending on which SSP is
used, and whether or not digital mics are present.
This patch adds a tplg_quirk_mask and in the case of the SOF driver
adds the relevant configurations.
This is a short-term solution to the ES8336 support issues.
In a long-term solution, we would need an interface where the machine
driver or platform driver have the ability to alter the topology
hard-coded low-level hardware support, e.g. by substituting an
interface for another, or disabling an interface that is not supported
on a given skew.

The NHLT information can be used to figure out which SSPs are enabled
in a platform.
The 'SSP' link type is too broad for machine drivers, since it can
cover the Bluetooth sideband and the analog audio codec connections,
so this helper exposes a parameter to filter with the device
type (DEVICE_I2S refers to analog audio codec in NHLT parlance).
The helper returns a mask, since more than one SSP may be used for
analog audio, e.g. the NHLT spec describes the use of SSP0 for
amplifiers and SSP1 for headset codec. Note that if more than one bit
is set, it's impossible to determine which SSP is connected to what
external component. Additional platform-specific information based on
e.g. DMI quirks would still be required in the machine driver to
configure the relevant dailinks.

Some audio hardware cannot support the same slot width for all sample
widths, or a slot width equal to the sample width for all sample widths.
This is usually due either to limitations of the audio serial port or
system clocking restrictions.
A typical example would be:
- 16-bit samples in 16-bit slots
- 24-bit samples in 32-bit slots
The new dai-tdm-slot-width-map property allows setting a mapping of
sample widths and the corresponding tdm slot widths and slot counts.
Although the slot count is usually the same for all cases this does
allow for adding padding slots to maintain the same bitclk frequency.
The property is added to each endpoint node that needs the component
DAI to be told the TDM slot width and count.

let's remove the redundant definitions.
When OEMs modify the base firmware, they can keep the same firmware
name but store the file in a separate directory.

There is a regular need in the kernel to provide a way to declare
having a dynamically sized set of trailing elements in a structure.
Kernel code should always use “flexible array members”[1] for these
cases. The older style of one-element or zero-length arrays should
no longer be used[2].
This code was transformed with the help of Coccinelle:

ASoC: Fixes for v5.17
Quite a few fixes here, including an unusually large set in the core
spurred on by various testing efforts as well as the usual small driver
fixes. There are quite a few fixes for out of bounds writes in both the
core and the various Qualcomm drivers, plus a couple of fixes for
locking in the DPCM code.
The recent change for DPCM locking caused spurious lockdep warnings.
Actually the warnings are false-positive, as those are triggered due
to the nested stream locks for FE and BE. Since both locks belong to
the same lock class, lockdep sees it as if a deadlock.
For fixing this, we need to take PCM stream locks for BE with the
nested lock primitives. Since currently snd_pcm_stream_lock*() helper
assumes only the top-level single locking, a new helper function
snd_pcm_stream_lock_irqsave_nested() is defined for a single-depth
nested lock, which is now used in the BE DAI trigger that is always
performed inside a FE stream lock.

Merge series from Robert Hancock <robert.hancock@calian.com>:
There are drivers in mainline for the Xilinx Audio Formatter and Xilinx
I2S IP cores. However, because of a few issues, these were only really
usable with Xilinx's xlnx_pl_snd_card top-level driver, which is not in
mainline (and not suitable for mainline).
The fixes in this patchset, for the simple-card layer as well as the
Xilinx drivers, now allow these drivers to be properly used with
simple-card without any out-of-tree support code.
Add a new system-clock-fixed flag, which can be used to specify that the
driver cannot or should not allow the clock frequency of the mapped clock
to be modified. This behavior is also implied if the system-clock-frequency
parameter is set explicitly - the flag is meant for cases where a clock is
mapped to the DAI but which is, or should be treated as, fixed.
When mclk-fs is also specified, this causes a PCM constraint to be added
which enforces that only the corresponding valid sample rate can be used.

To support CS35L41 in HDA systems the HDA driver
for CS35L41 would have to duplicate some functions
that already exist on ASoC driver
So instead of duplicate the code, use the new lib
source as a shared resource for both ASoC and HDA
Also, change the way CONFIG_SND_SOC_CS35L41 is

The existing code maximizes confusion by using 'stream' and 'hstream'
variables of different types. Examples:
struct hdac_stream *stream;
struct hdac_ext_stream *stream;
struct hdac_stream *hstream;
struct hdac_ext_stream *hstream;
with some additional copy/paste remains:
struct hdac_ext_stream *azx_dev;
This patch suggests a consistent naming across all 'hdac_ext_stream'
functions. The convention is:
struct hdac_stream *hstream;
struct hdac_ext_stream *hext_stream;
No functionality change - just renaming of variables and more
consistent indentation.

The HDAudio ASoC support relies on the set_tdm_slots() helper to store
the HDaudio stream tag in the tx_mask. This only works because of the
pre-existing order in soc-pcm.c, where the hw_params() is handled for
codec_dais *before* cpu_dais. When the order is reversed, the
stream_tag is used as a mask in the codec fixup functions:
/* fixup params based on TDM slot masks */
if (substream->stream == SNDRV_PCM_STREAM_PLAYBACK &&
codec_dai->tx_mask)
soc_pcm_codec_params_fixup(&codec_params,
codec_dai->tx_mask);
As a result of this confusion, the codec_params_fixup() ends-up
generating bad channel masks, depending on what stream_tag was
allocated.
We could add a flag to state that the tx_mask is really not a mask,
but it would be quite ugly to persist in overloading concepts.
Instead, this patch suggests a more generic get/set 'stream' API based
on the existing model for SoundWire. We can expand the concept to
store 'stream' opaque information that is specific to different DAI
types. In the case of HDAudio DAIs, we only need to store a stream tag
as an unsigned char pointer. The TDM rx_ and tx_masks should really
only be used to store masks.
Rename get_sdw_stream/set_sdw_stream callbacks and helpers as
get_stream/set_stream. No functionality change beyond the rename.

This series revives Tegra20 S/PDIF driver which was upstreamed long time
ago, but never was used. It also turns Tegra DRM HDMI driver into HDMI
audio CODEC provider. Finally, HDMI audio is enabled in device-trees.
For now the audio is enable only for Acer A500 tablet and Toshiba AC100
netbook because they're already supported by upstream, later on ASUS TF101
tablet will join them.
I based S/PDIF patches on Arnd's Bergmann patch from a separate series [1]
that removes obsolete slave_id. This eases merging of the patches by
removing the merge conflict. This is a note for Mark Brown.
I also based this series on top of power management series [2]. I.e. [2]
should be applied first, otherwise "Add S/PDIF node to Tegra20 device-tree"
patch should have merge conflict. This is a note for Thierry.

v4: - Added patches that update multi_v7_defconfig with the enabled S/PDIF
and APB DMA drivers.
v3: - Renamed S/PDIF device-tree clocks as was suggested by Rob Herring.
- Added r-bs and acks that were given by Rob Herring to v2.
v2: - Corrected I2S yaml problem that was reported by the DT bot for v1
by removing the non-existent required clock-names property.
- Removed assigned-clocks property from S/PDIF yaml since this property
is now inherited from the clocks property.
- Reordered the "tegra20: spdif: Set FIFO trigger level" patch, making
it the first sound/soc patch in the series, like it was suggested by
Mark Brown in the comment to v1. Also reworded commit message of this
patch to *not* make it looks like it should be backported to stable

On start/pause_release/resume, when more than one FE is connected to
the same BE, it's possible that the trigger is sent more than
once. This is not desirable, we only want to trigger a BE once, which
is straightforward to implement with a refcount.
For stop/pause/suspend, the problem is more complicated: the check
implemented in snd_soc_dpcm_can_be_free_stop() may fail due to a
conceptual deadlock when we trigger the BE before the FE. In this
case, the FE states have not yet changed, so there are corner cases
where the TRIGGER_STOP is never sent - the dual case of start where
multiple triggers might be sent.
This patch suggests an unconditional trigger in all cases, without
checking the FE states, using a refcount protected by the BE PCM
stream lock.

The existing locking for DPCM has several issues
a) a confusing mix of card->mutex and card->pcm_mutex.
b) a dpcm_lock spinlock added inconsistently and on paths that could
be recursively taken. The use of irqsave/irqrestore was also overkill.
The suggested model is:
1) The pcm_mutex is the top-most protection of BE links in the FE. The
pcm_mutex is applied always on either the top PCM callbacks or the
external call from DAPM, not taken in the internal functions.
2) the FE stream lock is taken in higher levels before invoking
dpcm_be_dai_trigger()
3) when adding and deleting a BE, both the pcm_mutex and FE stream
lock are taken.

Regarding to handling [U|S][32|24] PCM formats, many userspace
application developers and driver developers have confusion, since they
require them to understand justification or padding. It easily
loses consistency and soundness to operate with many type of devices. In
this commit, I attempt to solve the situation by adding comment about
relation between [S|U]32 formats and 'msbits' hardware parameter.
The formats are used for 'left-justified' sample format, and the available
bit count in most significant bit is delivered to userspace in msbits
hardware parameter (struct snd_pcm_hw_params.msbits), which is decided by
msbits constraint added by pcm drivers (snd_pcm_hw_constraint_msbits()).
In driver side, the msbits constraint includes two elements; the physical
width of format and the available width of the format in most significant
bit. The former is used to match SAMPLE_BITS of format. (For my
convenience, I ignore wildcard in the usage of the constraint.)
As a result of interaction between ALSA pcm core and ALSA pcm application,
when the format in which SAMPLE_BITS equals to physical width of the
msbits constaint, the msbits parameter is set by referring to the
available width of the constraint. When the msbits parameter is not
changed in the above process, ALSA pcm core set it alternatively with
SAMPLE_BIT of chosen format.
In userspace application side, the msbits is only available after calling
ioctl(2) with SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_HW_PARAMS request. Even if the hardware
parameter structure includes somewhat value of SAMPLE_BITS interval
parameter as width of format, all of the width is not always available
since msbits can be less than the width.
I note that [S|U]24 formats are used for 'right-justified' 24 bit sample
formats within 32 bit frame. The first byte in most significant bit
should be invalidated. Although the msbits exposed to userspace should be
zero as invalid value, actually it is 32 from physical width of format.

Current soc-pcm.c :: soc_pcm_pointer() is assuming that
component driver might update runtime->delay silently in
snd_soc_pcm_component_pointer() (= A).
static snd_pcm_uframes_t soc_pcm_pointer(...)

/* clearing the previous total delay */
=> runtime->delay = 0;
(A) offset = snd_soc_pcm_component_pointer(substream);
/* base delay if assigned in pointer callback */
=> delay = runtime->delay;
...
}
1) The behavior that ".pointer callback secretly updates
runtime->delay" is strange and confusable.
2) Current snd_soc_pcm_component_pointer() uses 1st found component's
.pointer callback only, thus it is no problem for now.
But runtime->delay might be overwrote if it adjusted to multiple
components in the future.
3) Component delay is updated at .pointer callback timing (secretly).
But some components which doesn't have .pointer callback might want
to increase runtime->delay for some reasons.
We already have .delay function for DAI, but not have for Component.
This patch adds new snd_soc_pcm_component_delay() for it.

Some DAI components, such as HDaudio, need to be stopped in two steps
a) stop the DAI component
b) stop the DAI DMA
This patch enables this two-step stop by expanding the DAI_CONFIG
IPC flags and split them into 2 parts.
The 4 LSB bits indicate when the DAI_CONFIG IPC is sent, ex: hw_params,
hw_free or pause. The 4 MSB bits are used as the quirk flags to be used
along with the command flags. The quirk flag called
SOF_DAI_CONFIG_FLAGS_2_STEP_STOP shall be set along with the HW_PARAMS
command flag, i.e. before the pipeline is started so that the stop/pause
trigger op in the FW can take the appropriate action to either
perform/skip the DMA stop. If set, the DMA stop will be executed when
the DAI_CONFIG IPC is sent during hw_free. In the case of pause, DMA
pause will be handled when the DAI_CONFIG IPC is sent with the PAUSE
command flag.
Along with this, modify the signature for the hda_ctrl_dai_widget_setup/
hda_ctrl_dai_widget_free() functions to take additional flags as an
argument and modify all users to pass the appropriate quirk flags. Only
the HDA DAI's need to pass the SOF_DAI_CONFIG_FLAGS_2_STEP_STOP quirk
flag during hw_params to indicate that it supports two-step stop and
pause.

Commit dac7cbd55d ("ASoC: Intel: soc-acpi-byt: shrink tables using
compatible IDs") and commit 959ae8215a ("ASoC: Intel: soc-acpi-cht:
shrink tables using compatible IDs") simplified the match tables in
soc-acpi-intel-byt-match.c and soc-acpi-intel-cht-match.c by merging
identical entries using the new .comp_ids snd_soc_acpi_mach field to
point a single entry to multiple ACPI HIDs and clearing the previously
unique per entry .id field.
But various machine drivers from sound/soc/intel/boards rely on mach->id
in one or more ways, e.g. some drivers contain the following snippets:
adev = acpi_dev_get_first_match_dev(mach->id, NULL, -1);
pkg_found = snd_soc_acpi_find_package_from_hid(mach->id, ...
if (!strncmp(snd_soc_cards[i].codec_id, mach->id, 8)) { ...
All of which are broken by the match table shrinking.
Make the snd_soc_acpi_mach.id field non const (the storage for the tables
already is non const) and on a comps_ids match copy the matching HID to
the id field to fix this.

This is a second attempt to unify the x86-specific SG-buffer handling
code with the new standard non-contiguous page handler.
The first try (in commit 2d9ea39917) failed due to the wrong page
and address calculations, hence reverted. (And the second try failed
due to a copy&paste error.) Now it's corrected with the previous fix
for noncontig pages, and the proper sg page iteration by this patch.
After the migration, SNDRV_DMA_TYPE_DMA_SG becomes identical with
SNDRV_DMA_TYPE_NONCONTIG on x86, while others still fall back to

When a codec is unbound dynamically via sysfs while its stream is in
use, we may face a potential deadlock at the proc remove or a UAF.
This happens since the hda_pcm is managed by a linked list, as it
handles the hda_pcm object release via kref.
When a PCM is opened at the unbinding time, the release of hda_pcm
gets delayed and it ends up with the close of the PCM stream releasing
the associated hda_pcm object of its own. The hda_pcm destructor
contains the PCM device release that includes the removal of procfs
entries. And, this removal has the sync of the close of all in-use
files -- which would never finish because it's called from the PCM
file descriptor itself, i.e. it's trying to shoot its foot.
For addressing the deadlock above, this patch changes the way to
manage and release the hda_pcm object. The kref of hda_pcm is
dropped, and instead a simple refcount is introduced in hda_codec for
keeping the track of the active PCM streams, and at each PCM open and
close, this refcount is adjusted accordingly. At unbinding, the
driver calls snd_device_disconnect() for each PCM stream, then
synchronizes with the refcount finish, and finally releases the object
resources.

We've had an x86-specific SG-buffer handling code, but now it can be
merged gracefully with the standard non-contiguous DMA pages.
After the migration, SNDRV_DMA_TYPE_DMA_SG becomes identical with
SNDRV_DMA_TYPE_NONCONTIG on x86, while others still fall back to
SNDRV_DMA_TYPE_DEV.
The remaining problem is about the SG-buffer with WC pages: the DMA
core stuff on x86 doesn't treat it well, so we still need some special
handling to manipulate the page attribute manually. The mmap handler

Following to the addition of non-contiguous pages, this patch adds the
new contiguous non-coherent page allocation to the standard memalloc
helper. Like the previous non-contig type, this non-coherent type is
also directional and requires the explicit sync, too. Hence the
driver using this type of buffer may need to set
SNDRV_PCM_INFO_EXPLICIT_SYNC flag to the PCM hardware.info as well,
unless it's set up in the managed mode.

This patch adds the support for allocation of non-contiguous DMA pages
in the common memalloc helper. It's another SG-buffer type, but
unlike the existing one, this is directional and requires the explicit
sync / invalidation of dirty pages on non-coherent architectures.
For this enhancement, the following points are changed:
- snd_dma_device stores the DMA direction.
- snd_dma_device stores need_sync flag indicating whether the explicit
sync is required or not.
- A new variant of helper functions, snd_dma_alloc_dir_pages() and
*_all() are introduced; the old snd_dma_alloc_pages() and *_all()
kept as just wrappers with DMA_BIDIRECTIONAL.
- A new helper snd_dma_buffer_sync() is introduced; this gets called
in the appropriate places.
- A new allocation type, SNDRV_DMA_TYPE_NONCONTIG, is introduced.
When the driver allocates pages with this new type, and it may require
the SNDRV_PCM_INFO_EXPLICIT_SYNC flag set to the PCM hardware.info for
taking the full control of PCM applptr and hwptr changes (that implies
disabling the mmap of control/status data). When the buffer
allocation is managed by snd_pcm_set_managed_buffer(), this flag is
automatically set depending on the result of dma_need_sync()
internally. Otherwise, if the buffer is managed manually, the driver
has to set the flag explicitly, too.
The explicit sync between CPU and device for non-coherent memory is
performed at the points before and after read/write transfer as well
as the applptr/hwptr syncptr ioctl. In the case of mmap mode,
user-space is supposed to call the syncptr ioctl with the hwptr flag
to update and fetch the status at first; this corresponds to CPU-sync.
Then user-space advances the applptr via syncptr ioctl again with
applptr flag, and this corresponds to the device sync with flushing.
Other than the DMA direction and the explicit sync, the usage of this
new buffer type is almost equivalent with the existing
SNDRV_DMA_TYPE_DEV_SG; you can get the page and the address via
snd_sgbuf_get_page() and snd_sgbuf_get_addr(), also calculate the
continuous pages via snd_sgbuf_get_chunk_size().
For those SG-page handling, the non-contig type shares the same ops
with the vmalloc handler. As we do always vmap the SG pages at first,
the actual address can be deduced from the vmapped address easily
without iterating the SG-list.

This patch adds Codec2Codec support to audio-graph-card2.
It can use Codec2Codec but very simple case only for now.
It doesn't have "SWITCH" control yet, thus it start automatically
when it was probed, and can't stop, so far.
Thus it needs to be updated around widgets/routing handling,
and you need to understand that it is under experimental.
Codec has SND_SOC_DAPM_INPUT() (= IN) / SND_SOC_DAPM_OUTPUT(= OUT)
widgets in below case.
It is assuming 2channel, S32_LE format for now.
It needs to be updated, too.
It needs "codec2codec" node (= B), needs to have routing (= A),
need to indicate CPU side at links (= X).
ports@0 is for CPU side (= X), port@1 is Codec side (= Y).
It needs to have "rate" (= C)

It seems that a few recent AMD systems show the codec configuration
errors at the early boot, while loading the driver at a later stage
works magically. Although the root cause of the error isn't clear,
it's certainly not bad to allow retrying the codec probe in such a
case if that helps.
This patch adds the capability for retrying the probe upon codec probe
errors on the certain AMD platforms. The probe_work is changed to a
delayed work, and at the secondary call, it'll jump to the codec
probing.
Note that, not only adding the re-probing, this includes the behavior
changes in the codec configuration function. Namely,
snd_hda_codec_configure() won't unregister the codec at errors any
longer. Instead, its caller, azx_codec_configure() unregisters the
codecs with the probe failures *if* any codec has been successfully
configured. If all codec probe failed, it doesn't unregister but let
it re-probed -- which is the most case we're seeing and this patch
tries to improve.
Even if the driver doesn't re-probe or give up, it will go to the
"free-all" error path, hence the leftover codecs shall be disabled /
deleted in anyway.

Mirror changes done in SOF tree. The changes do not rely on
BIT/GENMASK on purpose to keep the structure and flags common with the
firmware tree.
The DAI_CONFIG IPC is currently used in multiple ways. It is sent to
the DSP firmware when enabling static or dynamic pipelines, in
hw_params or prepare callbacks for Intel SSP, HDaudio and ALH, on
trigger_stop and hw_free.
This IPC has been abused a bit in the past, i.e. the values used for
some of the DAI-specific fields are used to either allocate or free
resources. Two typical examples are Intel HDaudio and SoundWire/ALH
DAIs, where using a zero DMA channel number or stream tag signals to
the firmware the DMA channels or tags allocated earlier can be freed.
Rather than add a new IPC for 'hw_params' and 'hw_free', this patch
suggests supporting a 2-bit value conveying the 'stage' information in
an existing IPC structure. Only 3 possible values are used.
The mapping between HW_PARAMS and HW_FREE flags and ALSA definitions
is not strictly 1:1, e.g. in some cases the HW_PARAM flag might be set
during the .prepare callback, while the HW_FREE might be sent during the
ALSA .trigger for stop/suspend.
The semantics of the flags is to reserve and start/stop all needed
resources, typically hardware related such as DMAs or clocks, when the
HW_PARAMS is set, while the HW_FREE flag allows the firmware to
release the resources allocated. The data transfers are still
controlled within the firmware through the propagation of the trigger
command.
The driver can then pass information that the DAI_CONFIG was invoked
in e.g. a pipeline/DAI setup, hw_params or hw_free stage without
having to use a special DAI-specific encoding. Unfortunately we can't
remove old encodings due to backwards-compatibility requirements but
for new cases, such as the SSP in follow-up patches, we can make the
IPC less cryptic.
This change is tagged as ABI 3.19 and is completely backwards compatible.

We have agreed that it might be better that someone from Intel is going to take it
from here as we already have the infrastructure up to test and verify the
dynamic pipelines support.
Changes since v2 (sent by Daniel Baluta):
- patch 10: Fix NULL point dereference in hda_dai_update_config()
- I have kept Daniel's SoB for the series.
Changes since v1:
- Signed-off-by tag added by Daniel
This series implements initial support for dynamic pipelines to setup/teardown
pipeline as needed when a PCM is open/closed.
Initially dynamic pipelines are only supported with single core setup which will
be expanded with a follow-up series.
Review with SOF community at
https://github.com/thesofproject/linux/pull/2794
The feature has been merged on 1st of April to sof-dev, all issues found since
has been fixed and squashed to this upstream series.

Hi,
SOF is marking all componet drivers with module_get_upon_open = 1 which works
fine with normal PCM streams, however on compressed side the module get upon
open is not supported. The module_get works when module_get_upon_open is not set
becasue the snd_soc_component_module_get_when_probe() will pass NULL for the
substream parameter of snd_soc_component_module_get().
In order to re-use the existing infrastructure for module_get, the proposal is
to convert the mark_module to void pointer (like the pm mark) and implement
matching code for the compressed open/free to pcm open/close.

added to the audio map on Tegra210 and later platforms. Thus it is
resulting in probe failure.
The requirement is of nearly ~200 DAI links. To give sufficient room

Currently the try_module_get() and module_put() is not possible for

SOF is setting module_get_upon_open to 1 for component drivers which works

This patch suggests an unconditional trigger in all cases, without
checking the FE states, using a refcount protected by a spinlock.

A few drivers want to have rather the exact buffer preallocation at
the driver probe time and keep using it for the whole operations
without allowing dynamic buffer allocation. For satisfying the
demands, this patch extends the managed buffer allocation API
slightly.
Namely, when 0 is passed to max argument of the allocation helper
functions snd_pcm_set_managed_buffer*(), it treats as if the fixed
size allocation of the given size. If the pre-allocation fails in
this mode, the function returns now -ENOMEM. Otherwise, i.e. max
argument is non-zero, the function never returns -ENOMEM but tries to
fall back to the smaller chunks and allows the dynamic allocation

snd_pcm_set_fixed_buffer_all().

As a second step for preliminary to widen the devres usages among
sound drivers, this patch adds a new ALSA core API function,
snd_devm_card_new(), to create a snd_card object via devres.
When a card object is created by this new function, snd_card_free() is
called automatically and the card object resource gets released at the
device unbinding time.
However, the story isn't that simple. A caveat is that we have to
call snd_card_free() at the very first of the whole resource release
procedure, in order to assure that the all exposed devices on
user-space are deleted and sync with processes accessing those devices
before releasing resources.
For achieving it, snd_card_register() adds a new devres action to
trigger snd_card_free() automatically when the given card object is a
"managed" one. Since usually snd_card_register() is the last step of
the initialization, this should work in most cases.
With all these tricks, some drivers can get rid of the whole driver
remove callback code.
About a bit of implementation details: the patch adds two new flags to
snd_card object: managed and releasing. The former indicates that the
object was created via snd_devm_card_new(), and the latter is used for
avoiding the double-free of snd_card_free() calls. Both flags are
fairly internal and likely uninteresting to normal users.

This is a preparation for allowing devres usages more widely in
various sound drivers. As a first step, this patch adds a new
allocator function, snd_devm_alloc_pages(), to manage the allocated
pages via devres, so that the pages will be automagically released as
device unbinding.
Unlike the old snd_dma_alloc_pages(), the new function returns
directly the snd_dma_buffer pointer. The caller needs NULL-check for
the allocation error appropriately.
Also, since a real device pointer is mandatory for devres,
SNDRV_DMA_TYPE_CONTINUOUS or SNDRV_DMA_TYPE_VMALLOC type can't be used
for this function.

Current implementation of ALSA PCM core has a kernel API,
snd_pcm_period_elapsed(), for drivers to queue event to awaken processes
from waiting for available frames. The function voluntarily acquires lock
of PCM substream, therefore it is not called in process context for any
PCM operation since the lock is already acquired.
It is convenient for packet-oriented driver, at least for drivers to audio
and music unit in IEEE 1394 bus. The drivers are allowed by Linux
FireWire subsystem to process isochronous packets queued till recent
isochronous cycle in process context in any time.
This commit adds snd_pcm_period_elapsed() variant,

ASoC is using dai_link which specify DAI format (= dai_link->dai_fmt),
and it is selected by "Sound Card" driver in corrent implementation.
In other words, Sound Card *needs* to setup it.
But, it should be possible to automatically selected from CPU and
Codec driver settings.
This patch adds new .auto_selectable_formats support
at snd_soc_dai_ops.
By this patch, dai_fmt can be automatically selected from each
driver if both CPU / Codec driver had it.
Automatically selectable *field* is depends on each drivers.
For example, some driver want to select format "automatically",
but want to select other fields "manually", because of complex limitation.
Or other example, in case of both CPU and Codec are possible to be
clock provider, but the quality was different.
In these case, user need/want to *manually* select each fields
from Sound Card driver.
This .auto_selectable_formats can set priority.
For example, no limitaion format can be HI priority,
supported but has picky limitation format can be next priority, etc.
It uses Sound Card specified fields preferentially, and try to select
non-specific fields from CPU and Codec driver automatically
if all drivers have .auto_selectable_formats.
In other words, we can select all dai_fmt via Sound Card driver
same as before.

Although the power state check is performed in various places (e.g. at
the entrance of quite a few ioctls), there can be still some pending
tasks that already went into the ioctl handler or other ops, and those
may access the hardware even after the power state check. For
example, kcontrol access ioctl paths that call info/get/put callbacks
may update the hardware registers. If a system wants to assure the
free from such hw access (like the case of PCI rescan feature we're
going to implement in future), this situation must be avoided, and we
have to sync such in-flight tasks finishing beforehand.
For that purpose, this patch introduces a few new things in core code:
- A refcount, power_ref, and a wait queue, power_ref_sleep, to the
card object
- A few new helpers, snd_power_ref(), snd_power_unref(),
snd_power_ref_and_wait(), and snd_power_sync_ref()
In the code paths that call kctl info/read/write/tlv ops, we check the
power state with the newly introduced snd_power_ref_and_wait(). This
function also takes the card.power_ref refcount for tracking this
in-flight task. Once after the access finishes, snd_power_unref() is
called to released the refcount in return. So the driver can sync via
snd_power_sync_ref() assuring that all in-flight tasks have been
finished.
As of this patch, snd_power_sync_ref() is called only at
snd_card_disconnect(), but it'll be used in other places in future.
Note that atomic_t is used for power_ref intentionally instead of
refcount_t. It's because of the design of refcount_t type; refcount_t
cannot be zero-based, and it cannot do dec_and_test() call for
multiple times, hence it's not suitable for our purpose.
Also, this patch changes snd_power_wait() to accept only
SNDRV_CTL_POWER_D0, which is the only value that makes sense.
In later patch, the snd_power_wait() calls will be cleaned up.

from generic work and from people working on specific drivers.
- More cleanup and consolidation work in the core and the generic card
drivers from Morimoto-san.
- Lots of cppcheck fixes for Pierre-Louis Brossart.
- New drivers for Freescale i.MX DMA over rpmsg, Mediatek MT6358
accessory detection, and Realtek RT1019, RT1316, RT711 and RT715.

ALSA control interface allows users to add arbitrary control elements
(called "user controls" or "user elements"), and its resource usage is
limited just by the max number of control sets (currently 32). This
limit, however, is quite loose: each allocation of control set may
have 1028 elements, and each element may have up to 512 bytes (ILP32) or
1024 bytes (LP64) of value data. Moreover, each control set may contain
the enum strings and TLV data, which can be up to 64kB and 128kB,
respectively. Totally, the whole memory consumption may go over 38MB --
it's quite large, and we'd rather like to reduce the size.
OTOH, there have been other requests even to increase the max number
of user elements; e.g. ALSA firewire stack require the more user
controls, hence we want to raise the bar, too.
For satisfying both requirements, this patch changes the management of
user controls: instead of setting the upper limit of the number of
user controls, we check the actual memory allocation size and set the
upper limit of the total allocation in bytes. As long as the memory
consumption stays below the limit, more user controls are allowed than
the current limit 32. At the same time, we set the lower limit (8MB)
as default than the current theoretical limit, in order to lower the
risk of DoS.
As a compromise for lowering the default limit, now the actual memory
limit is defined as a module option, 'max_user_ctl_alloc_size', so that
user can increase/decrease the limit if really needed, too.

This patchset tries to resolve the diversity in the audio LED
control among the ALSA drivers. A new control layer registration
is introduced which allows to run additional operations on
top of the elementary ALSA sound controls.
A new control access group (three bits in the access flags)
was introduced to carry the LED group information for
the sound controls. The low-level sound drivers can just
mark those controls using this access group. This information
is not exported to the user space, but user space can
manage the LED sound control associations through sysfs
(last patch) per Mark's request. It makes things fully
configurable in the kernel and user space (UCM).
The actual state ('route') evaluation is really easy
(the minimal value check for all channels / controls / cards).
If there's more complicated logic for a given hardware,
the card driver may eventually export a new read-only
sound control for the LED group and do the logic itself.
The new LED trigger control code is completely separated
and possibly optional (there's no symbol dependency).
The full code separation allows eventually to move this
LED trigger control to the user space in future.
Actually it replaces the already present functionality
in the kernel space (HDA drivers) and allows a quick adoption
for the recent hardware (ASoC codecs including SoundWire).

The recent laptops have usually two LEDs assigned to reflect
the speaker and microphone mute state. This implementation
adds a tiny layer on top of the control API which calculates
the state for those LEDs using the driver callbacks.
Two new access flags are introduced to describe the controls
which affects the audio path settings (an easy code change
for drivers).
The LED resource can be shared with multiple sound cards with
this code. The user space controls may be added to the state
chain on demand, too.
This code should replace the LED code in the HDA driver and
add a possibility to easy extend the other drivers (ASoC
codecs etc.).

On Asymmetric multiprocessor, there is Cortex-A core and Cortex-M core,
Linux is running on A core, RTOS is running on M core.
The audio hardware device can be controlled by Cortex-M device,
So audio playback/capture can be handled by M core.
Rpmsg is the interface for sending and receiving msg to and from M
core, that we can create a virtual sound on Cortex-A core side.
A core will tell the Cortex-M core sound format/rate/channel,
where is the data buffer, what is the period size, when to start,
when to stop and when suspend or resume happen, each of this behavior
there is defined rpmsg command.
Especially we designed the low power audio case, that is to
allocate a large buffer and fill the data, then Cortex-A core can go
to sleep mode, Cortex-M core continue to play the sound, when the
buffer is consumed, Cortex-M core will trigger the Cortex-A core to
wakeup to fill data.

Current snd_soc_fixup_dai_links_platform_name() creates name first (A),
and checks setup target pointer (B), and set it (C).
We should check target pointer first IMO.
This patch exchange the order to (B) -> (A) -> (C).

soc-pcm has very similar but different DPCM BE DAI stop operation at
1) dpcm_be_dai_startup() error case rollback
2) dpcm_be_dai_startup_unwind()
3) dpcm_be_dai_shutdown()
The differences are
1) for rollback
2) Doesn't check by snd_soc_dpcm_be_can_update() (Is this bug ?)
3) Do soc_pcm_hw_free() if it was not !OPENed and !HW_FREEed,
and call soc_pcm_close().
We can share same code by
1) hw_free is not needed. Needs last dpcm as rollback.
2) hw_free is not needed.
3) hw_free is needed.
This patch adds new dpcm_be_dai_stop() and share these 3.

In January, Intel kbuild bot and Arnd Bergmann reported multiple

a) expose ACPI and PCI devices in separate modules, while sof-acpi-dev

required for developers/testers, i.e. modprobe snd-sof-pci will no
longer result in a probe. The SOF CI was already updated to deal with
this module dependency change and introduction of new modules.
b) Fix SOF/SoundWire/DSP_config dependencies by moving the code

Multiple bug reports report issues with the SOF and SST drivers when
dealing with single microphone cases.
We currently read the DMIC array information unconditionally but we
don't check that the configuration type is actually a mic array.
When the DMIC link does not rely on a mic array configuration, the
recommendation is to check the format information to infer the maximum
number of channels, and map this to the number of microphones.
This leaves a potential for a mismatch between actual microphones
available in hardware and what the ACPI table contains, but we have no
other source of information.
Note that single microphone configurations can alternatively be
handled with a 'mic array' configuration along with a 'vendor-defined'
geometry.

The below patch series are to support Audio over HDMI.
The modification in this patch series shall allow I2S driver
to playback standard PCM format and IEC958 encoded format to

ALSA IEC958 plugin will be used to compose the IEC958 format.
Existing hdmi-codec driver only support standard pcm format.
Support of IEC958 encoded format passdown from ALSA IEC958 plugin
is needed so that the IEC958 encoded data can be streamed to the

The extended HDA bus (hdac_ext) provides interfaces for more
fine-grained control of individual links than what plain HDA
provides for. Links can be powered off when they are not used and if
all links are released, controller can shut down the command DMA.
These interfaces are currently not used by common HDA codec drivers.
When a HDA codec is runtime suspended, it calls snd_hdac_codec_link_down(),
but there is no link to the HDA extended bus, and on controller side
the links are shut down only when all codecs are suspended.
This patch adds link_power() to hdac_bus ops. Controllers using the HDA
extended core, can use this to plug in snd_hdac_ext_bus_link_power() to
implement more fine-grained control of link power.
No change is needed for plain HDA controllers nor to existing HDA
codec drivers.

injection nodes will be built in the folder cardN like below:

The nodes kctl_id, mask_bits, status and type are read-only, users
could check jack or jack_kctl's information through them.
The nodes sw_inject_enable and jackin_inject are directly used for
injection. The sw_inject_enable is read-write, users could check if
software injection is enabled or not on this jack, and users could
echo 1 or 0 to enable or disable software injection on this jack. Once
the injection is enabled, the jack will not change by hardware events
anymore, once the injection is disabled, the jack will restore the
last reported hardware events to the jack. The jackin_inject is
write-only, if the injection is enabled, users could echo 1 or 0 to
this node to inject plugin or plugout events to this jack.
For the detailed usage information on these nodes, please refer to
Documentation/sound/designs/jack-injection.rst.

It's often the case that we would write or read a particular field
in register. With the current soc_component apis, reading a particular
field in register would involve first read the register and then
perform shift operations.
Ex:
to read from a field mask of 0xf0
val = snd_soc_component_read(component, reg);
field = ((val & 0xf0) >> 0x4);
This is sometimes prone to errors and code become less readable!
With this new api we could just do
field = snd_soc_component_read_field(component, reg, 0xf0);
this makes it bit simple, easy to write and less error prone!
This also applies to writing!
There are various places in kernel which provides such field interfaces
however soc_component seems to be missing this.
This patch is inspired by FIELD_GET/FIELD_PREP macros in include/linux/bitfield.h

The fix for a long-standing USB-audio bug required one more dependency
variable to be added to the hw constraints. Unfortunately I didn't
realize at debugging that the new addition may result in the overflow
of the dependency array of each snd_pcm_hw_rule (up to three plus a
sentinel), because USB-audio driver adds one more dependency only for
a certain device and bus, hence it works as is for many devices. But
in a bad case, a simple open always results in -EINVAL (with kernel
WARNING if CONFIG_SND_DEBUG is set) no matter what is passed.
Since the dependencies are real and unavoidable (USB-audio restricts
the hw_params per looping over the format/rate/channels combos), the
only good solution seems to raise the bar for one more dependency for
snd_pcm_hw_rule -- so does this patch: now the hw constraint
dependencies can be up to four.
