PCMCIA abuses dev->private_data in the probe methods. Unfortunately it
continues to abuse it after calling drv->probe() which leads to crashes and
other nasties (such as bogus probes of multifunction devices) giving errors like
pcmcia: registering new device pcmcia0.1
kernel: 0.1: GetNextTuple: No more items
Extract the passed data before calling the driver probe function that way
we don't blow up when the driver reuses dev->private_data as its right.
As its close to the final release just move the hack so it works out,
hopefully someone will be sufficiently embarrassed to produce a nice rework
for 2.6.28.

The Arcom/Eurotech Viper needs some extra care to run. On this board,
the PC104 connector is actually wired to the second PCMCIA slot.
Therefore, this second socket needs to be enabled, despite not being
managed by the PCMCIA code.
I'd rather have the MECR setup in the platform support code so I could,
for example, use the PC104 bus without having the PCMCIA module loaded.

Since we're just parsing the tuple being passed to this function, we don't
need any device-specific information.
Also, remove the call to pcmcia_validate_cis() from pcmciamtd.c, since it
is already called by the PCMCIA core.

CS_NO_MORE_ITEMS is returned by the CIS tuple reading and parsing code if
the end of a tuple chain is reached. As at least one PCMCIA driver relies
on matching this return value, replace it with -ENOSPC which is now
uniquely used for this purpose within the in-kernel pcmcia subsystem.

By calling pcmcia_loop_config(), a pcmcia driver can iterate over all
available configuration options. During a driver's probe() phase, one
doesn't need to use pcmcia_get_{first,next}_tuple, pcmcia_get_tuple_data
and pcmcia_parse_tuple directly in most if not all cases.

On 32-bit architectures PAGE_ALIGN() truncates 64-bit values to the 32-bit
boundary. For example:
u64 val = PAGE_ALIGN(size);
always returns a value < 4GB even if size is greater than 4GB.
The problem resides in PAGE_MASK definition (from include/asm-x86/page.h for
example):

#define PAGE_ALIGN(addr) (((addr)+PAGE_SIZE-1)&PAGE_MASK)
The "~" is performed on a 32-bit value, so everything in "and" with
PAGE_MASK greater than 4GB will be truncated to the 32-bit boundary.
Using the ALIGN() macro seems to be the right way, because it uses
typeof(addr) for the mask.
Also move the PAGE_ALIGN() definitions out of include/asm-*/page.h in
include/linux/mm.h.

The cisinfo_t removal patch (c5081d5f47
pcmcia: simplify pccard_validate_cis ) introduced a bug that prevented
card detection, for the (info->Chains == MAX_TUPLES) check was replaced
by (count), which is always true. Restoring the comparison to MAX_TUPLES
makes everybody happy...

Bug noted by Michael Buesch: checking for the pointer address is always true.
This didn't matter much, for the very first check in pcmcia_release_window()
was for the pointer pointing to something, and the return value is ignored
here. Nonetheless, fix it.

Simplify sysfs attribute registration for sockets without static
resource mappings by using an attribute_group. This shrinks object
size a bit: use loops in sysfs code, but have more data.

When a dynamically allocated platform device is 'put', the platform
device's platform_data is kfree'd. This is bad if it's pointing at
static data. Use the provided function to register platform data
for these devices.
This also means we can mark the pcmcia ops structures as __initdata.

cm_x270 and mainstone both register their PCMCIA devices using the same
name, resulting in a warning message from the kernel. Avoid this by
making the cm_x270 and mainstone PCMCIA initialisation conditional on
the machine type we're running on.

Make the PCMCIA core stop using class_interface to hide socket attribute
registration. This removes the associated section mismatch warnings, and
helps get to the point where that mechanism can finally be removed.
Simplify that attribute registration by using an attribute_group.
This is a net shrink in object size.

It's plain wrong for PCMCIA to select HAVE_IDE that implies e.g. the
availability of an asm/ide.h
It turns out this was done for ARM, and we can simply always select
HAVE_IDE on ARM instead of manually tracking which platforms might
possible have an IDE controller directly or indirectly.

Not all PXA2xx platforms provide the necessary support files for
PCMCIA to work, let alone build. Stop the build errors by making
PXA2xx PCMCIA support only available on those platforms which have
supplied the support files.

two reasons:
1. GPIO namings and their mode definitions are conceptually not part
of the PXA register definitions
2. this is actually a temporary move in the transition of PXA2xx to
use MFP-alike APIs (as what PXA3xx is now doing), so that legacy
code will still work and new code can be added in step by step

To allow flexible configuration of IDE introduce HAVE_IDE.
All archs except arm, um and s390 unconditionally select it.
For arm the actual configuration determine if IDE is supported.
This is a step towards introducing drivers/Kconfig for arm.

of_iomap calls ioremap, and so should be matched with an iounmap. At the
two error returns, the result of calling of_iomap is only stored in a local
variable, so these error paths need to call iounmap. Furthermore, this
function ultimately stores the result of of_iomap in an array that is local
to the file. These values should be iounmapped at some point. I have
added a corresponding call to iounmap at the end of the function
m8xx_remove.

Update the AT91 CF driver to use the generic GPIO calls instead of the
AT91-specific ones; and request exclusive use of those signals.
Minor tweaks to cleanup code paths: always in reverse order of how the
resources were allocated, with remove() matching the fault paths of
probe().

This stops the pcmcia core from using dev->power.power_state; that field is
deprecated (overdue for removal) and the only reason to update it was to make
the /sys/devices/.../power/state files (now removed) work better.

Convert the io_req_t members to unsigned int, to allow use on machines with
more than 16 bits worth of IO ports (i.e. secondary busses on ppc64, etc).
There was only a couple of places in drivers where a change was needed. I
left printk formats alone (there are lots of %04x-style formats in there),
mostly to not change the format on the platforms that only have 16-bit io
addresses, but also because the padding doesn't really add all that much value
most of the time.
I found only one sprintf of an address, and upsized the string accordingly (I
doubt anyone will have anywhere near INT_MAX as irq value, but at least
there's room for it now).

Driver for the CompactFlash slot on the PA Semi Electra eval board. It's
a simple device sitting on localbus, with interrupts and detect/voltage
control over GPIO.
The driver is implemented as an of_platform driver, and adds localbus
as a bus being probed by the of_platform framework.

Recently I've been trying to get working PCMCIA interface on H5000 ipaq
series, using dual PCMCIA sleeve. So far things work correctly, but I had
to do one modification to drivers/pcmcia/pxa2xx_base.c to get the interface
working with orinoco gold PCMCIA card (wired pcnet_cs ethernet card worked
even without this modification).
The issue has something to do with assert time on PCMCIA bus, but I'm not
really sure what -- I found the working value just by trial&error approach.
I'm not sure how is the assert value in pxa2xx_mcxx_asst calculated (I
know, simple formula, but the reason why is it calculated that way is not
obvious for me), neither that my modification is correct. It just works
with iPAQ.

This changes the uevent buffer functions to use a struct instead of a
long list of parameters. It does no longer require the caller to do the
proper buffer termination and size accounting, which is currently wrong
in some places. It fixes a known bug where parts of the uevent
environment are overwritten because of wrong index calculations.

error handling.

Send uevents for all platform devices.

Rolling forward PCMCIA driver, it was discovered that the indentation in
existing one, as well as in BSP side are very odd. This patch is just result
of Lindent run ontop of culprit files.

Currently, the freezer treats all tasks as freezable, except for the kernel
threads that explicitly set the PF_NOFREEZE flag for themselves. This
approach is problematic, since it requires every kernel thread to either
set PF_NOFREEZE explicitly, or call try_to_freeze(), even if it doesn't
care for the freezing of tasks at all.
It seems better to only require the kernel threads that want to or need to
be frozen to use some freezer-related code and to remove any
freezer-related code from the other (nonfreezable) kernel threads, which is
done in this patch.
The patch causes all kernel threads to be nonfreezable by default (ie. to
have PF_NOFREEZE set by default) and introduces the set_freezable()
function that should be called by the freezable kernel threads in order to
unset PF_NOFREEZE. It also makes all of the currently freezable kernel
threads call set_freezable(), so it shouldn't cause any (intentional)
change of behaviour to appear. Additionally, it updates documentation to
describe the freezing of tasks more accurately.

Well, first of all, I don't want to change so many files either.
What I do:
Adding a new parameter "struct bin_attribute *" in the
.read/.write methods for the sysfs binary attributes.
In fact, only the four lines change in fs/sysfs/bin.c and
include/linux/sysfs.h do the real work.
But I have to update all the files that use binary attributes
to make them compatible with the new .read and .write methods.
I'm not sure if I missed any. :(
Why I do this:
For a sysfs attribute, we can get a pointer pointing to the
struct attribute in the .show/.store method,
while we can't do this for the binary attributes.
I don't know why this is different, but this does make it not
so handy to use the binary attributes as the regular ones.
So I think this patch is reasonable. :)
Who benefits from it:
The patch that exposes ACPI tables in sysfs
requires such an improvement.
All the table binary attributes share the same .read method.
Parameter "struct bin_attribute *" is used to get
the table signature and instance number which are used to
distinguish different ACPI table binary attributes.
Without this parameter, we need to offer different .read methods
for different ACPI table binary attributes.
This is impossible as there are various ACPI tables on different
platforms, and we don't know what they are until they are loaded.

sysfs is now completely out of driver/module lifetime game. After
deletion, a sysfs node doesn't access anything outside sysfs proper,
so there's no reason to hold onto the attribute owners. Note that
often the wrong modules were accounted for as owners leading to
accessing removed modules.
This patch kills now unnecessary attribute->owner. Note that with
this change, userland holding a sysfs node does not prevent the
backing module from being unloaded.

Adds support for PowerQuicc on-chip PCMCIA. The driver is implemented as
of_device, so only arch/powerpc stuff is capable to use it, which now implies
only mpc885ads reference board.
To cope with the code that should be hooked inside driver, but is really board
specific (like set_voltage), global structure mpc8xx_pcmcia_ops holds
necessary function pointers that are filled in the BSP code.

Fix enable_irq_wake and disable_irq_wake symmetry in at91 pcmcia driver
disable_irq_wake call must be symmetric with enable_irq_wake. This patch
fix that problem for the at91_pcmia driver. It seems that this patch was
forgotten when we've fixed irq_wake symmetry in all at91 related drivers.
It was discussed in the "at91 drivers and [enable/disable]_irq_wake
(wrong?) usage" thread on the linux-arm-kernel mailing list.

We've had various reports of some legacy "probe the hardware" style
platform drivers having nasty problems with hotplug support.
The core issue is that those legacy drivers don't fully conform to the
driver model. They assume a role that should be the responsibility of
infrastructure code: creating device nodes.
The "modprobe" step in hotplugging relies on drivers to have split those
roles into different modules. The lack of this split causes the problems.
When a driver creates nodes for devices that don't exist (sending a hotplug
event), then exits (aborting one modprobe) before the "modprobe $MODALIAS"
step completes (by failing, since it's in the middle of a modprobe), the
result can be an endless loop of modprobe invocations ... badness.
This fix uses the newish per-device flag controlling issuance of "add"
events. (A previous version of this patch used a per-device "driver can
hotplug" flag, which only scrubbed $MODALIAS from the environment rather
than suppressing the entire hotplug event.) It also shrinks that flag to
one bit, saving a word in "struct device".
So the net of this patch is removing some nasty failures with legacy
drivers, while retaining hotplug capability for the majority of platform
drivers.

PCI drivers have the new_id file in sysfs which allows new IDs to be added
at runtime. The advantage is to avoid re-compilation of a driver that
works for a new device, but it's ID table doesn't contain the new device.
This mechanism is only meant for testing, after the driver has been tested
successfully, the ID should be added in source code so that new revisions
of the kernel automatically detect the device.
The implementation follows the PCI implementation. The interface is documented
in Documentation/pcmcia/driver.txt. Computations should be done in userspace,
so the sysfs string contains the raw structure members for matching.

I noticed that many source files include <linux/pci.h> while they do
not appear to need it. Here is an attempt to clean it all up.
In order to find all possibly affected files, I searched for all
files including <linux/pci.h> but without any other occurence of "pci"
or "PCI". I removed the include statement from all of these, then I
compiled an allmodconfig kernel on both i386 and x86_64 and fixed the
false positives manually.
My tests covered 66% of the affected files, so there could be false
positives remaining. Untested files are:

Convert omap_cf into a platform_driver ... this resolves oopsing during
suspend/resume.
Evidently folk haven't tried suspend/resume on an OSK (the main platform
for this driver) since September or so, which is when platform_device
learned about suspend_late()/resume_early() and stopped being able to
suspend/resume without a platform_driver.

After Al Viro (finally) succeeded in removing the sched.h #include in module.h
recently, it makes sense again to remove other superfluous sched.h includes.
There are quite a lot of files which include it but don't actually need
anything defined in there. Presumably these includes were once needed for
macros that used to live in sched.h, but moved to other header files in the
course of cleaning it up.
To ease the pain, this time I did not fiddle with any header files and only
removed #includes from .c-files, which tend to cause less trouble.
Compile tested against 2.6.20-rc2 and 2.6.20-rc2-mm2 (with offsets) on alpha,
arm, i386, ia64, mips, powerpc, and x86_64 with allnoconfig, defconfig,
allmodconfig, and allyesconfig as well as a few randconfigs on x86_64 and all
configs in arch/arm/configs on arm. I also checked that no new warnings were
introduced by the patch (actually, some warnings are removed that were emitted
by unnecessarily included header files).

Many struct file_operations in the kernel can be "const". Marking them const
moves these to the .rodata section, which avoids false sharing with potential
dirty data. In addition it'll catch accidental writes at compile time to
these shared resources.

This is an update to the AT91 CompactFlash driver.
We replace the hard-coded "chip select 4" with the chip-select value
passed via platform_data. The configuration of the EBI memory
controller to enable Compact Flash access is now also handled in the
platform setup code and not in the driver.

s->functions needs to be initialized earlier, for the "let's see
how high it increases" approach means that pcmcia_request_irq()
(which makes use of this value) is confused, and might request
an exclusive IRQ first even though it is not supposed to.
Also, a CIS override autoloaded using the firmware loader may
allow for the use of more or less functions in a multifunction
card. Therefore, we may need to schedule a call to add this
second function later on, or simply remove the other function
(it's always the first -valid- function which reaches this
codepath).

This patch updates the drivers (and other files) which include the
hardware headers. This fixes the breakage introduced in patches 3950/1
and 3951/1 (those patches were getting big).
The AVR32 architecture uses the same serial driver and had its own copy
of at91rm9200_pdc.h. Renamed it to at91_pdc.h

Having unbound PCMCIA devices: doing a 'find /sys' after a 'rmmod pcmcia'
gives an oops because the pcmcia_device is not unregisterd from the driver
core.

The PXA2xx PCMCIA driver was registering a device_driver with the
platform_bus_type. Unfortunately, this causes data outside the
device_driver structure to be dereferenced as if it were a
platform_driver structure, causing an oops. Convert the PXA2xx
core driver to use the proper platform_driver structure.

Some PCMCIA cards do not mention specific IO addresses in the CIS. In that
case, inside the alloc_io_space function, conflicts are detected (the
function returns 1) for the second function of a multifunction card unless
the length of IO address range required is greater than 0x100.
The following patch will remove this conflict checking for a PCMCIA
function which had not mentioned any specific IO address to be mapped from.
The patch is tested for Linux kernel 2.6.15.4 and works fine in the above
case and is as suggested by Dave Hinds.

More correct AT91 CF wakeup logic ... only enable/disable the IRQ wakeup
capability, not the IRQ itself. That way the we know that the IRQ will be
disabled correctly, in suspend/resume logic instead of ARM IRQ code.
Most of the pin multiplexing setup has moved to the devices.c setup code.

Maintain a per-CPU global "struct pt_regs *" variable which can be used instead
of passing regs around manually through all ~1800 interrupt handlers in the
Linux kernel.
The regs pointer is used in few places, but it potentially costs both stack
space and code to pass it around. On the FRV arch, removing the regs parameter
from all the genirq function results in a 20% speed up of the IRQ exit path
(ie: from leaving timer_interrupt() to leaving do_IRQ()).
Where appropriate, an arch may override the generic storage facility and do
something different with the variable. On FRV, for instance, the address is
maintained in GR28 at all times inside the kernel as part of general exception
handling.
Having looked over the code, it appears that the parameter may be handed down
through up to twenty or so layers of functions. Consider a USB character
device attached to a USB hub, attached to a USB controller that posts its
interrupts through a cascaded auxiliary interrupt controller. A character
device driver may want to pass regs to the sysrq handler through the input
layer which adds another few layers of parameter passing.
I've build this code with allyesconfig for x86_64 and i386. I've runtested the
main part of the code on FRV and i386, though I can't test most of the drivers.
I've also done partial conversion for powerpc and MIPS - these at least compile
with minimal configurations.
This will affect all archs. Mostly the changes should be relatively easy.
Take do_IRQ(), store the regs pointer at the beginning, saving the old one:

And put the old one back at the end:

Don't pass regs through to generic_handle_irq() or __do_IRQ().
In timer_interrupt(), this sort of change will be necessary:

- profile_tick(CPU_PROFILING, regs);
+ update_process_times(user_mode(get_irq_regs()));
+ profile_tick(CPU_PROFILING);
I'd like to move update_process_times()'s use of get_irq_regs() into itself,
except that i386, alone of the archs, uses something other than user_mode().
Some notes on the interrupt handling in the drivers:
(*) input_dev() is now gone entirely. The regs pointer is no longer stored in
the input_dev struct.
(*) finish_unlinks() in drivers/usb/host/ohci-q.c needs checking. It does
something different depending on whether it's been supplied with a regs
pointer or not.
(*) Various IRQ handler function pointers have been moved to type
irq_handler_t.

The test for the error from pcmcia_replace_cis() was incorrect, and
would always trigger (because if an error didn't happen, the "ret" value
would not be zero, it would be the passed-in count).

the p_dev == NULL checks are wrong. the called functions handle a NULL
p_dev on their own. w/o this patch output of cardcctl status and cardctl
config is broken for cardbus cards or when the slot is empty.

It's useful to be able to turn off CONFIG_HOTPLUG for compile-coverage testing
and for section-checking coverage. But a few things go and select
CONFIG_HOTPLUG, making it a royal PITA to turn the thing off.
It's only turnable offable if CONFIG_EMBEDDED anyway. So let's make those
things depend on HOTPLUG, not select it.

AT91 CF updates, mostly for power management:
- Add suspend/resume methods to the AT91 CF driver, disabling
non-wakeup IRQs during system suspend. The card detect IRQ
serves as a wakeup event source.
- Convert the driver to the more-current "platform_driver" style.
So inserting or removing a CF card will wake the system, unless that
has been disabled by updating the sysfs file; and there will be no
more warnings about spurious IRQs during suspend/resume cycles.

The patch below cleans up the pcmcia code a bit on the IRQ side (I did
this while debugging the problem just so I could read wtf it was doing),
and also adds a warning and passes back the correct information when a
device asks for exclusive but gets given shared. This at least means the
dmesg dump of a problem triggered by this will have a signature to find.

Fixed up trivial conflict in drivers/ide/pci/cmd64x.c (the printk that
was changed by the 64-bit resources had been deleted in the meantime ;)
This patch-queue improves the generic IRQ layer to be truly generic, by adding
various abstractions and features to it, without impacting existing
functionality.
While the queue can be best described as "fix and improve everything in the
generic IRQ layer that we could think of", and thus it consists of many
smaller features and lots of cleanups, the one feature that stands out most is
the new 'irq chip' abstraction.
The irq-chip abstraction is about describing and coding and IRQ controller
driver by mapping its raw hardware capabilities [and quirks, if needed] in a
straightforward way, without having to think about "IRQ flow"
(level/edge/etc.) type of details.
This stands in contrast with the current 'irq-type' model of genirq
architectures, which 'mixes' raw hardware capabilities with 'flow' details.
The patchset supports both types of irq controller designs at once, and
converts i386 and x86_64 to the new irq-chip design.
As a bonus side-effect of the irq-chip approach, chained interrupt controllers
(master/slave PIC constructs, etc.) are now supported by design as well.
The end result of this patchset intends to be simpler architecture-level code
and more consolidation between architectures.
We reused many bits of code and many concepts from Russell King's ARM IRQ
layer, the merging of which was one of the motivations for this patchset.
This patch:
rename desc->handler to desc->chip.
Originally i did not want to do this, because it's a big patch. But having
both "desc->handler", "desc->handle_irq" and "action->handler" caused a
large degree of confusion and made the code appear alot less clean than it
truly is.
I have also attempted a dual approach as well by introducing a
desc->chip alias - but that just wasnt robust enough and broke
frequently.
So lets get over with this quickly. The conversion was done automatically
via scripts and converts all the code in the kernel.
This renaming patch is the first one amongst the patches, so that the
remaining patches can stay flexible and can be merged and split up
without having some big monolithic patch act as a merge barrier.

Using the old ioctl interface together with cardbus card gives a NULL
pointer dereference since cardbus devices don't have a struct pcmcia_device.
also s->io[0].res can be NULL as well.
Fix is to move the pcmcia code after the cardbus code and to check for a null
pointer.

The at91_cf driver got out of sync with certain changes in the PCMCIA
layer, notably getting rid of some duplication of data ... causing the
version merged to kernel.org to fail compiling.
This patch gives the at91_cf platform device a new iomem resource, using
it so this new pcmcia scheme works. It also cleans up some whitepsace
bugs that have accumulated over time (mostly too-long lines).

The boot cmdline is parsed in parse_early_param() and
parse_args(,unknown_bootoption).
And __setup() is used in obsolete_checksetup().
start_kernel()
-> parse_args()
-> unknown_bootoption()
-> obsolete_checksetup()
If __setup()'s callback (->setup_func()) returns 1 in
obsolete_checksetup(), obsolete_checksetup() thinks a parameter was
handled.
If ->setup_func() returns 0, obsolete_checksetup() tries other
->setup_func(). If all ->setup_func() that matched a parameter returns 0,
a parameter is seted to argv_init[].
Then, when runing /sbin/init or init=app, argv_init[] is passed to the app.
If the app doesn't ignore those arguments, it will warning and exit.
This patch fixes a wrong usage of it, however fixes obvious one only.

Instead of the two status values struct pcmcia_device->p_state and state,
use descriptive bitfields. Most value-checking in drivers was invalid, as
the core now only calls the ->remove() (a.k.a. detach) function in case the
attachement _and_ configuration was successful.

pcmcia_disable_device(struct pcmcia_device *p_dev) performs the necessary
cleanups upon device or driver removal: it calls the appropriate
pcmcia_release_* functions, and can replace (most) of the current drivers'
_release() functions.

The second pseudo multi-function device of a PCMCIA card may only be
configured once the first one is initialized. Therefore, delay the
registration of the second device until the first one is initialized.

Some PCMCIA sockets have statically mapped memory windows, but dynamically
mapped IO windows. Using the "nonstatic" socket library is inpractical for
them, as they do neither need a resource database (as we can trust the
kernel resource database on m68k and ppc) nor lots of other features of that
library. Let them get a small "iodyn" socket library (105 lines of code)
instead.

Unify the EVENT_CARD_INSERTION and "attach" callbacks to one unified
probe() callback. As all in-kernel drivers are changed to this new
callback, there will be no temporary backwards-compatibility. Inside a
probe() function, each driver _must_ set struct pcmcia_device
*p_dev->instance and instance->handle correctly.
With these patches, the basic driver interface for 16-bit PCMCIA drivers
now has the classic four callbacks known also from other buses:

Make the bridge specific initialization code config options depending on
CONFIG_EMBEDDED. Config options for TI/EnE, Toshiba, Ricoh and O2Micro are
available. Disabling all of the specific tweaks cuts off more than half
of yenta_socket.ko.

The SL-Cxx00 devices have a power control register in SCOOP that is
shared by both CF and MMC/SD card slots. The CF reset code was resetting
this register leading to various lockups as the MMC power was suddenly
lost. This patch handles the CPR register in a more sensitive manner.
It also removes some unneeded collie specific calls as the reset code
handles this.

Leave the overloaded "hotplug" word to susbsystems which are handling
real devices. The driver core does not "plug" anything, it just exports
the state to userspace and generates events.

Print out minimal information in dmesg whnever a CardBus or PCMCIA card
is inserted into or ejected from a slot. This will make debugging certain
types of bugs much easier, and is similar to output produced by other
hotpluggable buses.

This patch removes almost all inclusions of linux/version.h. The 3
#defines are unused in most of the touched files.
A few drivers use the simple KERNEL_VERSION(a,b,c) macro, which is
unfortunatly in linux/version.h.
There are also lots of #ifdef for long obsolete kernels, this was not
touched. In a few places, the linux/version.h include was move to where
the LINUX_VERSION_CODE was used.

The Sharp SL-Cxx00 models have a combined power control for the SD
and CF slot 0. This patch adds hooks to the scoop driver to allow
machines to provide a custom control function for this and such a
function is added for spitz/akita/borzoi.
It also moves the gpio init code into the machine files as this
is machine dependent and differs between some models. A couple of
warnings when compiling for collie are also fixed.

Here is an uptodated version of the MPC8xx PCMCIA driver for v2.6,
addressing comments by Jeff and Dominik:
- use IO accessors instead of direct device memory referencing
- avoid usage of non-standard "uint/uchar" data types
- kill struct typedef's
Will submit it for inclusion once v2.6.14 is out.
Testing on 8xx platforms is more than welcome! Works like a charm
on our custom hardware (CONFIG_PRxK).

In PM v1, all devices were called at SUSPEND_DISABLE level. Then
all devices were called at SUSPEND_SAVE_STATE level, and finally
SUSPEND_POWER_DOWN level. However, with PM v2, to maintain
compatibility for platform devices, I arranged for the PM v2
suspend/resume callbacks to call the old PM v1 suspend/resume
callbacks three times with each level in order so that existing
drivers continued to work.
Since this is obsolete infrastructure which is no longer necessary,
we can remove it. Here's an (untested) patch to do exactly that.

The pccardd thread has a race in it that it can shutdown in the
TASK_INTERRUPTIBLE state.
Make sure we mark ourselves runnable again as we remove ourselves from
the wait queue.

pci_set_power_state is not needed, as we call pci_enable_device() somewhere
else. Also, the resource we write to PCI_BASE_ADDRESS_0 needs to be converted
to bus-centric view first.

In interrupt probing (both ISA and PCI) the bridge control register is used
to change interrupt routing to ISA or PCI by changing bit 7. But this bit
only controls the routing of card functional interrupts, not the CSC
interrupts which are used for interrupt probing.
A bad side effect of messing with this register in yenta_probe_irq() is
that it can lead to irq storms if a card is inserted and already powered by
the BIOS.
Usage in yenta_sock_init() and yenta_config_init() seem to be fishy as well.

Echo Audio cardbus products are known to be incompatible with EnE bridges.
in order to maybe solve the problem a EnE specific test bit has to be set,
another cleared...but other setups have a good chance to break when just
forcing the bits. so do the whole thingy automatically.
The patch adds a hook in cb_alloc() that allows special tuning for the
different chipsets. for ene just match the Echo products and set/clear the
test bits, defaults to do the same thing as w/o the patch to not break
working setups.

In some cases, especially on modern laptops with a lot of PCI and
cardbus bridges, we're unable to assign correct secondary/subordinate
bus numbers to all cardbus bridges due to BIOS limitations unless
we are using "pci=assign-busses" boot option.
So some cardbus controllers may not have attached subordinate pci_bus
structure, and yenta driver must cope with it - just ignore such cardbus
bridges.

multifunction cards need to have the same irq assigned to both functions.
the code tries that but fails because ret is still set to CS_IN_USE which
results in the function having the CB irq assigned. yenta_set_socket then
just changes the irq routing to use the PCI interrupt but the first
functions irq handler is registered on an ISA interrupt. boom.

- all wake up conditions should be checked before schedule()
this fixes a hang of rmmod in the sequence modprobe yenta_socket; rmmod
yenta_socket as reported by Andreas Steinmetz. w/o this rmmod yenta_socket
can hang on wait_for_completion() in pcmcia_unregister_socket()

Share code between setup-bus.c and yenta_socket.c: use the write-out code of
resources to the bridge also in yenta_socket.c, as it provides useful debug
output. In addition, it fixes the bug that the CPU-centric resource view
might need to be transferred to the PCI-centric view: setup-bus.c does that,
while yenta-socket.c did not.

ToPIC95 brides (and maybe some other too) require to use the ExCA registers
to power up the socket if a 16bit card is pluged. allow socket drivers to
set a flag so that yenta does just that. also clean up yenta_get_status()
a bit to use the new yenta_get_power() function.
Side note: ToPIC97 bridges (at least in Rev.5 i have) don't require this.

In yenta_socket, we default to using the resource setting of the CardBus
bridge. However, this is a PCI-bus-centric view of resources and thus needs
to be converted to generic resources first. Therefore, add a call to
pcibios_bus_to_resource() call in between. This function is a mere wrapper on
x86 and friends, however on some others it already exists, is added in this
patch (alpha, arm, ppc, ppc64) or still needs to be provided (parisc -- where
is its pcibios_resource_to_bus() ?).

Recent changes (well, dating from 12 July) have broken cardbus on my
powerbook: I get 3 messages saying "no resource of type xxx available,
trying to continue", and if I plug in my wireless card, it complains
that there are no resources allocated to the card. This all worked in
2.6.12.
Looking at the code in yenta_socket.c, function yenta_allocate_res,
it's obvious what is wrong: if we get to line 639 (i.e. there wasn't a
usable preassigned resource), we will always flow through to line 668,
which is the printk that I was seeing, even if a resource was
successfully allocated. It looks to me as though there should be a
return statement after the two config_writel's in each of the 3
branches of the if statements, so that the function returns after
successfully setting up the resource.
The patch below adds these return statements, and with this patch,
cardbus works on my powerbook once again.

The ordering of setting and clearing device_add_pending went wrong on some
occasions, causing multifunction cards only to be handled correctly on the
first insertion, not on subsequent ones.

ACPI is wrong. Devices should not release their IRQ's on suspend and
re-aquire them on resume. ACPI should just re-init the IRQ controller
instead of breaking most drivers very subtly.

Older O2Micro bridges have problems with both read prefetch and write burst
depending on the combination of the chipset, bridge, cardbus card. safest is
to disable read prefetch and write burst on those old bridges.

When a driver calls pcmcia_request_irq with IRQ_HANDLE_PRESENT unset, it looks
for an open IRQ by request_irq()ing with a dummy handler and NULL dev_info.
free_irq uses dev_info as a key for identifying the handler to free among
those sharing an IRQ, so request_irq returns -EINVAL if dev_info is NULL and
the IRQ may be shared. That unknown error code is the -EINVAL.
It looks like only pcnet_cs and axnet_cs are affected. Most other drivers let
pcmcia_request_irq install their interrupt handlers. sym53c500_cs requests
its IRQ manually, but it cannot share an IRQ.
The appended patch changes pcmcia_request_irq to pass an arbitrary, unique,
non-NULL dev_info with the dummy handler.

The current CardBus window allocation code in yenta_socket is unable to handle
the transparent PCI-bridge handling update in 2.6.13. We need to check _all_
resources of a given type to find the best one suitable for CardBus windows,
not just the first one.

If the CardBus windows were pre-configured and the CardBus bridge is behind a
transparent PCI-PCI bridge, pci_find_parent_resource() might return a
different resource than the real parent if it is called before the window is
determined. Therefore, move that call around.
Also fix return of value in void function.

If probing for the correct interrupt fails on yenta bridges, the driver falls
back to polling for interrupt actions. However, CardBus cards cannot be used
then.

The Linux PCMCIA code has some data that was apparently used (or meant to be
used) to ensure that only proper client drivers are loaded. This is now
ensured (to a certain degree) by the fact that the most client drivers are
part of the kernel. Also, the version information has not been updated
despite major changes in PCMCIA API. This has made it meaningless.
This patch removes servinfo_t and pcmcia_get_card_services_info. They are not
used in any userspace utilities such as pcmcia-cs and pcmciautils.
drivers/pcmcia/pcmcia_ioctl.c is adjusted accordingly.
CS_RELEASE and CS_RELEASE_CODE are removed. include/pcmcia/version.h is empty
now. It will be removed later, but for now it's left in the tree to avoid
touching all PCMCIA clients.
The only driver that needs to be changed is drivers/scsi/pcmcia/nsp_cs.c,
which uses CS_RELEASE_CODE.

Schedule removal of the PCMCIA ioctl (and thus kernel support for the
pcmcia-cs userspace package) for November 2005.
A big "thank you" to Dave Hinds for his great work on supporting PCMCIA in
Linux. Things are just done differently by now, so the ongoing work to make
PCMCIA behave like any other hotpluggable bus should continue.

converted the check_region() calls in drivers/pcmcia/i82365.c into
request_regions. Unfortunately this seems to have broken things.
isa_probe() used to call check_region() and then call add_pcic() which would
request_region().
Now isa_probe() calls request_region() and then calls add_pcic() which calls
request_region() again, this fails and add_pcic() returns immediately without
doing all the setup etc.
On the face of it the patch below fixes the problem, by not doing the second
request region in add_pcic(). I think this is preferable to remove the call
in isa_probe() since identify() touches the I/O regions and is called before
add_pcic().
However I haven't fully grokked the meaning of the code which follows the
request_region() in isa_probe(), so I'm not sure that the handling WRT
multiple sockets and multiple bridge chips is correct. In particular I'm not
convinced that the regions for subsequent sockets and/or bridges will be
requested at all. I suspect a more thorough reworking by someone who
understands what is going on there might be in order.
I should mention that I'm actually messing about with this on an ARM platform
with wacky memory and i/o mapping offsets etc, it doesn't quite work yet for
other reasons which preclude full testing etc, but I think the problem above
is still present for more normal x86 stuff.

Don't auto-configure yenta sockets for PCMCIA devices if it is connected to
the root PCI bus on the x86 or x86_64 architectures. Previously, this was
handled by the "ioport_resource"/"iomem_resource" check a few lines below,
but with the new ACPI-based resource handling this doesn't catch all cases
any longer.
pci-yenta-cardbus-fix.patch and this patch should solve the initialization
time trouble. However, the ACPI-based PCI resource handling is badly
broken, IMHO:
- many resources of devices don't show up in the resource trees (
/proc/iomem and /proc/ioports) any longer. This means that PCMCIA, but
also possibly other subsystems (ISA, PnP, ...) do not know which resources
it cannot use.
- verify_root_windows() should fail if there are no iomem _or_ ioport
resources, not only if there are no iomem _and_ ioport resources.

The PCMCIA card services layer is never setting the i/o map attributes when
SS_CAP_STATIC_MAP is specified. Net result, sockets' set_io_map() calls
always see requests with most flags clear, meaning 8 bit access.
For hardware that always autosizes, that won't matter; and all current
STATIC_MAP drivers ignore those attributes. A new driver (for at91rm9200)
suffers badly from this, since this forces everything into 8 bit mode and
that breaks both (a) cards requiring 16 bit access, and (b) ide-cs; but of
course 8-bit cards work OK (as does accessing card attributes).
So this patch arranges to pass the attributes down, matching the behavior
for non-static mappings (using the first/only I/O window).
