This is a pure automated search-and-replace of the internal kernel
superblock flags.
The s_flags are now called SB_*, with the names and the values for the
moment mirroring the MS_* flags that they're equivalent to.
Note how the MS_xyz flags are the ones passed to the mount system call,
while the SB_xyz flags are what we then use in sb->s_flags.
The script to do this was:

Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.
By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.
Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.
This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.
How this work was done:
Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
- file had no licensing information it it.
- file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
- file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,
Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.
The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.
The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
- Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
- Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
lines of source
- File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
lines).
All documentation files were explicitly excluded.
The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.
- when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
COPYING file license applied.
For non */uapi/* files that summary was:

and that resulted in the third patch in this series.
- when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
the concluded license(s).
- when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.
- In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).
- When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
- If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
in time.
In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.
Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.
In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.
Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
- a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
license ids and scores
- reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
- reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
SPDX license was correct
This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.
These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

Fix problems noted in compilion with -Wformat=2 -Wformat-signedness.
In particular, a mismatch between the signedness of a value and the
signedness of its format specifier can result in unsigned values being
printed as negative numbers, e.g.:
Partition (0 type 1511) starts at physical 460, block length -1779968542
...which occurs when mounting a large (> 1 TiB) UDF partition.

Large (> 1 TiB) UDF filesystems appear subject to several problems when
mounted on 64-bit systems:
* readdir() can fail on a directory containing File Identifiers residing
above 0x7FFFFFFF. This manifests as a 'ls' command failing with EIO.
* FIBMAP on a file block located above 0x7FFFFFFF can return a negative
value. The low 32 bits are correct, but applications that don't mask the
high 32 bits of the result can perform incorrectly.
Per suggestion by Jan Kara, introduce a udf_pblk_t type for representation
of UDF block addresses. Ultimately, all driver functions that manipulate
UDF block addresses should use this type; for now, deployment is limited
to functions with actual or potential sign extension issues.
Changes to udf_readdir() and udf_block_map() address the issues noted
above; other changes address potential similar issues uncovered during
audit of the driver code.

Pull mount flag updates from Al Viro:
"Another chunk of fmount preparations from dhowells; only trivial
conflicts for that part. It separates MS_... bits (very grotty
mount(2) ABI) from the struct super_block ->s_flags (kernel-internal,
only a small subset of MS_... stuff).
This does *not* convert the filesystems to new constants; only the
infrastructure is done here. The next step in that series is where the
conflicts would be; that's the conversion of filesystems. It's purely
mechanical and it's better done after the merge, so if you could run

Convert udf_disk_stamp_to_time() to use mktime64() to simplify the code.
As a bonus we get working timestamp conversion for dates before epoch
and after 2038 (both of which are allowed by UDF standard).

UDF on-disk time stamp is stored in a form very similar to struct tm.
Use time64_to_tm() for conversion of seconds since epoch to year, month,
... format and then just copy this as necessary to UDF on-disk
structure to simplify the code.

udf_setsize() called truncate_setsize() with i_data_sem held. Thus
truncate_pagecache() called from truncate_setsize() could lock a page
under i_data_sem which can deadlock as page lock ranks below
i_data_sem - e. g. writeback can hold page lock and try to acquire
i_data_sem to map a block.
Fix the problem by moving truncate_setsize() calls from under
i_data_sem. It is safe for us to change i_size without holding
i_data_sem as all the places that depend on i_size being stable already
hold inode_lock.

We don't hold inode_lock in udf_adinicb_writepage() so use i_size_read()
to get i_size. This cannot cause real problems is i_size is guaranteed
to be small but let's be careful.

__udf_adinicb_readpage() uses i_size several times. When truncate
changes i_size while the function is running, it can observe several
different values and thus e.g. expose uninitialized parts of page to
userspace. Also use i_size_read() in the function since it does not hold
inode_lock. Since i_size is guaranteed to be small, this cannot really
cause any issues even on 32-bit archs but let's be careful.

Add a system call to make extended file information available, including
file creation and some attribute flags where available through the
underlying filesystem.
The getattr inode operation is altered to take two additional arguments: a
u32 request_mask and an unsigned int flags that indicate the
synchronisation mode. This change is propagated to the vfs_getattr*()
function.
Functions like vfs_stat() are now inline wrappers around new functions
vfs_statx() and vfs_statx_fd() to reduce stack usage.
========
OVERVIEW
========
The idea was initially proposed as a set of xattrs that could be retrieved
with getxattr(), but the general preference proved to be for a new syscall
with an extended stat structure.
A number of requests were gathered for features to be included. The
following have been included:
(1) Make the fields a consistent size on all arches and make them large.
(2) Spare space, request flags and information flags are provided for
future expansion.
(3) Better support for the y2038 problem [Arnd Bergmann] (tv_sec is an
__s64).
(4) Creation time: The SMB protocol carries the creation time, which could
be exported by Samba, which will in turn help CIFS make use of
FS-Cache as that can be used for coherency data (stx_btime).
This is also specified in NFSv4 as a recommended attribute and could
be exported by NFSD [Steve French].
(5) Lightweight stat: Ask for just those details of interest, and allow a
netfs (such as NFS) to approximate anything not of interest, possibly
without going to the server [Trond Myklebust, Ulrich Drepper, Andreas
Dilger] (AT_STATX_DONT_SYNC).
(6) Heavyweight stat: Force a netfs to go to the server, even if it thinks
its cached attributes are up to date [Trond Myklebust]
(AT_STATX_FORCE_SYNC).
And the following have been left out for future extension:
(7) Data version number: Could be used by userspace NFS servers [Aneesh
Kumar].
Can also be used to modify fill_post_wcc() in NFSD which retrieves
i_version directly, but has just called vfs_getattr(). It could get
it from the kstat struct if it used vfs_xgetattr() instead.
(There's disagreement on the exact semantics of a single field, since
not all filesystems do this the same way).
(8) BSD stat compatibility: Including more fields from the BSD stat such
as creation time (st_btime) and inode generation number (st_gen)
[Jeremy Allison, Bernd Schubert].
(9) Inode generation number: Useful for FUSE and userspace NFS servers
[Bernd Schubert].
(This was asked for but later deemed unnecessary with the
open-by-handle capability available and caused disagreement as to
whether it's a security hole or not).
(10) Extra coherency data may be useful in making backups [Andreas Dilger].
(No particular data were offered, but things like last backup
timestamp, the data version number and the DOS archive bit would come
into this category).
(11) Allow the filesystem to indicate what it can/cannot provide: A
filesystem can now say it doesn't support a standard stat feature if
that isn't available, so if, for instance, inode numbers or UIDs don't
exist or are fabricated locally...
(This requires a separate system call - I have an fsinfo() call idea
for this).
(12) Store a 16-byte volume ID in the superblock that can be returned in
struct xstat [Steve French].
(Deferred to fsinfo).
(13) Include granularity fields in the time data to indicate the
granularity of each of the times (NFSv4 time_delta) [Steve French].
(Deferred to fsinfo).
(14) FS_IOC_GETFLAGS value. These could be translated to BSD's st_flags.
Note that the Linux IOC flags are a mess and filesystems such as Ext4
define flags that aren't in linux/fs.h, so translation in the kernel
may be a necessity (or, possibly, we provide the filesystem type too).
(Some attributes are made available in stx_attributes, but the general
feeling was that the IOC flags were to ext[234]-specific and shouldn't
be exposed through statx this way).
(15) Mask of features available on file (eg: ACLs, seclabel) [Brad Boyer,
Michael Kerrisk].
(Deferred, probably to fsinfo. Finding out if there's an ACL or
seclabal might require extra filesystem operations).
(16) Femtosecond-resolution timestamps [Dave Chinner].
(A __reserved field has been left in the statx_timestamp struct for
this - if there proves to be a need).
(17) A set multiple attributes syscall to go with this.
===============
NEW SYSTEM CALL
===============
The new system call is:

The dfd, filename and flags parameters indicate the file to query, in a
similar way to fstatat(). There is no equivalent of lstat() as that can be
emulated with statx() by passing AT_SYMLINK_NOFOLLOW in flags. There is
also no equivalent of fstat() as that can be emulated by passing a NULL
filename to statx() with the fd of interest in dfd.
Whether or not statx() synchronises the attributes with the backing store
can be controlled by OR'ing a value into the flags argument (this typically
only affects network filesystems):
(1) AT_STATX_SYNC_AS_STAT tells statx() to behave as stat() does in this
respect.
(2) AT_STATX_FORCE_SYNC will require a network filesystem to synchronise
its attributes with the server - which might require data writeback to
occur to get the timestamps correct.
(3) AT_STATX_DONT_SYNC will suppress synchronisation with the server in a
network filesystem. The resulting values should be considered
approximate.
mask is a bitmask indicating the fields in struct statx that are of
interest to the caller. The user should set this to STATX_BASIC_STATS to
get the basic set returned by stat(). It should be noted that asking for
more information may entail extra I/O operations.
buffer points to the destination for the data. This must be 256 bytes in
size.

stx_btime is the file creation time, stx_mask is a bitmask indicating the
data provided and __spares*[] are where as-yet undefined fields can be
placed.
Time fields are structures with separate seconds and nanoseconds fields
plus a reserved field in case we want to add even finer resolution. Note
that times will be negative if before 1970; in such a case, the nanosecond
fields will also be negative if not zero.
The bits defined in the stx_attributes field convey information about a
file, how it is accessed, where it is and what it does. The following
attributes map to FS_*_FL flags and are the same numerical value:
STATX_ATTR_COMPRESSED File is compressed by the fs
STATX_ATTR_IMMUTABLE File is marked immutable
STATX_ATTR_APPEND File is append-only
STATX_ATTR_NODUMP File is not to be dumped
STATX_ATTR_ENCRYPTED File requires key to decrypt in fs
Within the kernel, the supported flags are listed by:
KSTAT_ATTR_FS_IOC_FLAGS

New flags include:
STATX_ATTR_AUTOMOUNT Object is an automount trigger
These are for the use of GUI tools that might want to mark files specially,
depending on what they are.
Fields in struct statx come in a number of classes:
(0) stx_dev_*, stx_blksize.
These are local system information and are always available.
(1) stx_mode, stx_nlinks, stx_uid, stx_gid, stx_[amc]time, stx_ino,
stx_size, stx_blocks.
These will be returned whether the caller asks for them or not. The
corresponding bits in stx_mask will be set to indicate whether they
actually have valid values.
If the caller didn't ask for them, then they may be approximated. For
example, NFS won't waste any time updating them from the server,
unless as a byproduct of updating something requested.
If the values don't actually exist for the underlying object (such as
UID or GID on a DOS file), then the bit won't be set in the stx_mask,
even if the caller asked for the value. In such a case, the returned
value will be a fabrication.
Note that there are instances where the type might not be valid, for
instance Windows reparse points.
(2) stx_rdev_*.
This will be set only if stx_mode indicates we're looking at a
blockdev or a chardev, otherwise will be 0.
(3) stx_btime.
Similar to (1), except this will be set to 0 if it doesn't exist.

TESTING
=======
The following test program can be used to test the statx system call:
samples/statx/test-statx.c
Just compile and run, passing it paths to the files you want to examine.
The file is built automatically if CONFIG_SAMPLES is enabled.
Here's some example output. Firstly, an NFS directory that crosses to
another FSID. Note that the AUTOMOUNT attribute is set because transiting
this directory will cause d_automount to be invoked by the VFS.

udf_fill_super() used udf_parse_options() to flag UDF_FLAG_BLOCKSIZE_SET
when blocksize was specified otherwise used 512 bytes
(bdev_logical_block_size) and 2048 bytes (UDF_DEFAULT_BLOCKSIZE)
IOW both 1024 and 4096 specifications were required or resulted in
"mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/loop1"
This patch loops through different block values but also updates
udf_load_vrs() to return -EINVAL instead of 0 when udf_check_vsd()
fails (and uopt->novrs = 0).
The later being the reason for the RFC; we have that case when mounting
a 4kb blocksize against other values but maybe VRS is not mandatory
there ?
Tested with 512, 1024, 2048 and 4096 blocksize

UDF encodes symlinks in a more complex fashion and thus i_size of a
symlink does not match the lenght of a string returned by readlink(2).
This confuses some applications (see bug 191241) and may be considered a
violation of POSIX. Fix the problem by reading the link into page cache
in response to stat(2) call and report the length of the decoded path.

CURRENT_TIME is not y2038 safe.
CURRENT_TIME macro is also not appropriate for filesystems
as it doesn't use the right granularity for filesystem
timestamps.
Logical Volume Integrity format is described to have the
same timestamp format for "Recording Date and time" as
the other [a,c,m]timestamps.
The function udf_time_to_disk_format() does this conversion.
Hence the timestamp is passed directly to the function and
not truncated. This is as per Arnd's suggestion on the
thread.
This is also in preparation for the patch that transitions
vfs timestamps to use 64 bit time and hence make them
y2038 safe. As part of the effort current_time() will be
extended to do range checks.

current_fs_time() uses struct super_block* as an argument.
As per Linus's suggestion, this is changed to take struct
inode* as a parameter instead. This is because the function
is primarily meant for vfs inode timestamps.
Also the function was renamed as per Arnd's suggestion.
Change all calls to current_fs_time() to use the new
current_time() function instead. current_fs_time() will be
deleted.

inode_change_ok() will be resposible for clearing capabilities and IMA
extended attributes and as such will need dentry. Give it as an argument
to inode_change_ok() instead of an inode. Also rename inode_change_ok()
to setattr_prepare() to better relect that it does also some
modifications in addition to checks.

These two are confusing leftover of the old world order, combining
values of the REQ_OP_ and REQ_ namespaces. For callers that don't
special case we mostly just replace bi_rw with bio_data_dir or
op_is_write, except for the few cases where a switch over the REQ_OP_
values makes more sense. Any check for READA is replaced with an
explicit check for REQ_RAHEAD. Also remove the READA alias for
REQ_RAHEAD.

UDF/OSTA terminology is confusing. Partition Numbers (PNs) are arbitrary
16-bit values, one for each physical partition in the volume. Partition
Reference Numbers (PRNs) are indices into the the Partition Map Table
and do not necessarily equal the PN of the mapped partition.
The current metadata code mistakenly uses the PN instead of the PRN when
mapping metadata blocks to physical/sparable blocks. Windows-created
UDF 2.5 discs for some reason use large, arbitrary PNs, resulting in
mount failure and KASAN read warnings in udf_read_inode().
For example, a NetBSD UDF 2.5 partition might look like this:

Since PRN == PN, we are fine.
But Windows could gives us:

So udf_read_inode() will start out by checking the partition length in
sbi->s_partmaps[8192], which is obviously out of bounds.
Fix this by creating a new field (s_phys_partition_ref) in struct
udf_meta_data, referencing whatever physical or sparable map has the
same partition number as the metadata partition.

Currently when udf_get_pblock_meta25() fails to map a block using the
primary metadata file, it will attempt to load the mirror file entry by
calling udf_find_metadata_inode_efe(). That function will return a ERR_PTR
if it fails, but the return value is only checked against NULL. Test the
return value using IS_ERR() and change it to NULL if needed.

Currently, if a metadata partition map is missing its partition descriptor,
then udf_get_pblock_meta25() will BUG() out the first time it is called.
This is rather drastic for a corrupted filesystem, so just treat this case
as an invalid mapping instead.

everyone's life simpler.

we were successful so that the boilerplate error switch code in the
callers can go away.

Currently UDF superblock magic doesn't appear in any userspace header
files and thus userspace apps have hard time checking for this fs. Let's
export the magic to userspace as with any other filesystem.

Presently, a corrupted or malicious UDF filesystem containing a very large
number (or cycle) of Logical Volume Integrity Descriptor extent
indirections may trigger a stack overflow and kernel panic in
udf_load_logicalvolint() on mount.
Replace the unnecessary recursion in udf_load_logicalvolint() with
simple iteration. Set an arbitrary limit of 1000 indirections (which would
have almost certainly overflowed the stack without this fix), and treat
such cases as if there were no LVID.

Commit 9293fcfbc1
("udf: Remove struct ustr as non-needed intermediate storage"),
while getting rid of 'struct ustr', does not take any special care
of 'dstring' fields and effectively use fixed field length instead
of actual string length, encoded in the last byte of the field.
Also, commit 484a10f493
("udf: Merge linux specific translation into CS0 conversion function")
introduced checking of the length of the string being converted,
requiring proper alignment to number of bytes constituing each
character.
The UDF volume identifier is represented as a 32-bytes 'dstring',
and needs to be converted from CS0 to UTF8, while mounting UDF
filesystem. The changes in mentioned commits can in some cases
lead to incorrect handling of volume identifier:
- if the actual string in 'dstring' is of maximal length and
does not have zero bytes separating it from dstring encoded
length in last byte, that last byte may be included in conversion,
thus making incorrect resulting string;
- if the identifier is encoded with 2-bytes characters (compression
code is 16), the length of 31 bytes (32 bytes of field length minus
1 byte of compression code), taken as the string length, is reported
as an incorrect (unaligned) length, and the conversion fails, which
in its turn leads to volume mounting failure.
This patch introduces handling of 'dstring' encoded length field
in udf_CS0toUTF8 function, that is used in all and only cases
when 'dstring' fields are converted. Currently these cases are
processing of Volume Identifier and Volume Set Identifier fields.
The function is also renamed to udf_dstrCS0toUTF8 to distinctly
indicate that it handles 'dstring' input.

PAGE_CACHE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN} macros were introduced *long* time
ago with promise that one day it will be possible to implement page
cache with bigger chunks than PAGE_SIZE.
This promise never materialized. And unlikely will.
We have many places where PAGE_CACHE_SIZE assumed to be equal to
PAGE_SIZE. And it's constant source of confusion on whether
PAGE_CACHE_* or PAGE_* constant should be used in a particular case,
especially on the border between fs and mm.
Global switching to PAGE_CACHE_SIZE != PAGE_SIZE would cause to much
breakage to be doable.
Let's stop pretending that pages in page cache are special. They are
not.
The changes are pretty straight-forward:
- <foo> << (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) -> <foo>;
- <foo> >> (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) -> <foo>;

This patch contains automated changes generated with coccinelle using
script below. For some reason, coccinelle doesn't patch header files.
I've called spatch for them manually.
The only adjustment after coccinelle is revert of changes to
PAGE_CAHCE_ALIGN definition: we are going to drop it later.
There are few places in the code where coccinelle didn't reach. I'll
fix them manually in a separate patch. Comments and documentation also
will be addressed with the separate patch.

Current implementation of udf_translate_to_linux function does not
support multi-bytes characters at all: it counts bytes while calculating
extension length, when inserting CRC inside the name it doesn't
take into account inter-character boundaries and can break into
the middle of the character.
The most efficient way to properly support multi-bytes characters is
merging of translation operations directly into conversion function.
This can help to avoid extra passes along the string or parsing
the multi-bytes character back into unicode to find out it's length.

Although 'struct ustr' tries to structurize the data by combining
the string and its length, it doesn't actually make much benefit,
since it saves only one parameter, but introduces an extra copying
of the whole buffer, serving as an intermediate storage. It looks
quite inefficient and not actually needed.
This commit gets rid of the struct ustr by changing the parameters
of some functions appropriately.
Also, it removes using 'dstring' type, since it doesn't make much
sense too.
Just using the occasion, add a 'const' qualifier to udf_get_filename
to make consistent parameters sets.

Code in udf_find_entry() and udf_readdir() used the same buffer for
storing filename that was split among blocks and for the resulting
filename in utf8. This worked because udf_get_filename() first
internally copied the name into a different buffer and only then
performed a conversion into the destination buffer. However we want to
get rid of intermediate buffers so use separate buffer for converted
name and name split between blocks so that we don't have the same source
and destination buffer when converting split names.

Actual name length restriction is 254 bytes, this is used in 'ustr'
structure, and this is what fits into UDF File Ident structures.
And in most cases the constant is used as UDF_NAME_LEN-2.
So, it's better to just modify the constant to make it closer
to reality.
Also, in some cases it's useful to have a separate constant for
the maximum length of file name field in CS0 encoding in UDF File
Ident structures.
Also, remove the unused UDF_PATH_LEN constant.

There is no much sense to have separate functions for UTF8 and
NLS conversions, since UTF8 encoding is actually the special case
of NLS.
However, although UTF8 is also supported by general NLS framework,
it would be good to have separate UTF8 character conversion functions
(char2uni and uni2char) locally in UDF code, so that they could be
used even if NLS support is not enabled in the kernel configuration.

Make the desired output length a parameter rather than have it
hard-coded to UDF_NAME_LEN. Although all call sites still have
this length the same, this parameterization will make the function
more universal and also consistent with udf_get_filename.

There are many locations that do
if (memory_was_allocated_by_vmalloc)
vfree(ptr);
else
kfree(ptr);
but kvfree() can handle both kmalloc()ed memory and vmalloc()ed memory
using is_vmalloc_addr(). Unless callers have special reasons, we can
replace this branch with kvfree(). Please check and reply if you found
problems.

breach the limit, but this was possible even with the former "account
everything" approach (simply because it did not account everything in
fact).

If a name contains at least some characters with Unicode values
exceeding single byte, the CS0 output should have 2 bytes per character.
And if other input characters have single byte Unicode values, then
the single input byte is converted to 2 output bytes, and the length
of output becomes larger than the length of input. And if the input
name is long enough, the output length may exceed the allocated buffer
length.
All this means that conversion from UTF8 or NLS to CS0 requires
checking of output length in order to stop when it exceeds the given
output buffer size.

udf_CS0toUTF8 function stops the conversion when the output buffer
length reaches UDF_NAME_LEN-2, which is correct maximum name length,
but, when checking, it leaves the space for a single byte only,
while multi-bytes output characters can take more space, causing
buffer overflow.
Similar error exists in udf_CS0toNLS function, that restricts
the output length to UDF_NAME_LEN, while actual maximum allowed
length is UDF_NAME_LEN-2.
In these cases the output can override not only the current buffer
length field, causing corruption of the name buffer itself, but also
following allocation structures, causing kernel crash.
Adjust the output length checks in both functions to prevent buffer
overruns in case of multi-bytes UTF8 or NLS characters.

A new warning has come up from a recent cleanup:

If the alloc_type is neither ICBTAG_FLAG_AD_SHORT nor
ICBTAG_FLAG_AD_LONG, the value of adsize is undefined. Currently,
callers of these functions make sure alloc_type is one of the two valid
ones but for future proofing make sure we handle the case of invalid
alloc type as well. This changes the code to return -EIOin that case.

When inode ends with empty indirect extent block and we extended that
file, udf_do_extend_file() ended up just overwriting pointer to it with
another extent and thus effectively leaking the block and also
corruptiong length of allocation descriptors.
Fix the problem by properly following into next indirect extent when it
is present.

udf_next_aext() just follows extent pointers while extents are marked as
indirect. This can loop forever for corrupted filesystem. Limit number
the of indirect extents we are willing to follow in a row.

kmap() in page_follow_link_light() needed to go - allowing to hold
an arbitrary number of kmaps for long is a great way to deadlocking
the system.
new helper (inode_nohighmem(inode)) needs to be used for pagecache
symlinks inodes; done for all in-tree cases. page_follow_link_light()
instrumented to yell about anything missed.

When read-write mount of a filesystem is requested but we find out we
can mount the filesystem only in read-only mode, we still modify
LVID in udf_close_lvid(). That is both unnecessary and contrary to
expectation that when we fall back to read-only mount we don't modify
the filesystem.
Make sure we call udf_close_lvid() only if we called udf_open_lvid() so
that filesystem gets modified only if we verified we are allowed to
write to it.

For a UDF filesystem configured with an Unallocated Space Table,
a filesystem operation that triggers an update to the table results
in on-disk corruption that prevents remounting:
udf_read_tagged: tag version 0x0000 != 0x0002 || 0x0003, block 274
For example:
1. Create a filesystem
$ mkudffs --media-type=hd --blocksize=512 --lvid=BUGTEST \
--vid=BUGTEST --fsid=BUGTEST --space=unalloctable \

2. Mount it
# mount /dev/mmcblk0 /mnt
3. Create a file
$ echo "No corruption, please" > /mnt/new.file
4. Umount
# umount /mnt
5. Attempt remount
# mount /dev/mmcblk0 /mnt
This appears to be a longstanding bug caused by zero-initialization of
the Unallocated Space Entry block buffer and only partial repopulation
of required fields before writing to disk.
Commit 0adfb339fd64 ("udf: Fix unalloc space handling in udf_update_inode")
addressed one such field, but several others are required.

The "fh_len" passed to ->fh_to_* is not guaranteed to be that same as
that returned by encode_fh - it may be larger.
With NFSv2, the filehandle is fixed length, so it may appear longer
than expected and be zero-padded.
So we must test that fh_len is at least some value, not exactly equal
to it.

Return appropriate error from udf_find_entry() instead of just NULL.
That way we can distinguish the fact that some error happened when
looking up filename (and return error to userspace) from the fact that
we just didn't find the filename. Also update callers of
udf_find_entry() accordingly.

Zero length file name isn't really valid. So check the length of the
final file name generated by udf_translate_to_linux() and return -EINVAL
instead of zero length file name. Update caller of udf_get_filename() to
not check for 0 return value.

Return -ENOMEM when allocation fails in udf_get_filename(). Update
udf_pc_to_char(), udf_readdir(), and udf_find_entry() to handle the
error appropriately. This allows us to pass appropriate error to
userspace instead of corrupting symlink contents by omitting some path
elements.

The rw parameter to direct_IO is redundant with iov_iter->type, and
treated slightly differently just about everywhere it's used: some users
do rw & WRITE, and others do rw == WRITE where they should be doing a
bitwise check. Simplify this with the new iov_iter_rw() helper, which
always returns either READ or WRITE.

Commit 6fb1ca92a6 "udf: Fix race between write(2) and close(2)"
changed the condition when preallocation is released. The idea was that
we don't want to release the preallocation for an inode on close when
there are other writeable file descriptors for the inode. However the
condition was written in the opposite way so we released preallocation
only if there were other writeable file descriptors. Fix the problem by
changing the condition properly.

Check that length specified in a component of a symlink fits in the
input buffer we are reading. Also properly ignore component length for
component types that do not use it. Otherwise we read memory after end
of buffer for corrupted udf image.

Symlink reading code does not check whether the resulting path fits into
the page provided by the generic code. This isn't as easy as just
checking the symlink size because of various encoding conversions we
perform on path. So we have to check whether there is still enough space
in the buffer on the fly.

UDF specification allows arbitrarily large symlinks. However we support
only symlinks at most one block large. Check the length of the symlink
so that we don't access memory beyond end of the symlink block.

Some UDF media have special inodes (like VAT or metadata partition
inodes) whose link_count is 0. Thus commit 4071b91362 (udf: Properly
detect stale inodes) broke loading these inodes because udf_iget()
started returning -ESTALE for them. Since we still need to properly
detect stale inodes queried by NFS, create two variants of udf_iget() -
one which is used for looking up special inodes (which ignores
link_count == 0) and one which is used for other cases which return
ESTALE when link_count == 0.

Currently write(2) updating i_size and close(2) of the file can race in
such a way that udf_truncate_tail_extent() called from
udf_file_release() sees old i_size but already new extents added by the
running write call. This results in complaints like:

Currently udf_iget() (triggered by NFS) can race with udf_new_inode()
leading to two inode structures with the same inode number:
nfsd: iget_locked() creates inode
nfsd: try to read from disk, block on that.
udf_new_inode(): allocate inode with that inumber
udf_new_inode(): insert it into icache, set it up and dirty
udf_write_inode(): write inode into buffer cache
nfsd: get CPU again, look into buffer cache, see nice and sane on-disk
inode, set the in-core inode from it
Fix the problem by putting inode into icache in locked state (I_NEW set)
and unlocking it only after it's fully set up.

Currently UDF doesn't initialize i_generation in any way and thus NFS
can easily get reallocated inodes from stale file handles. Luckily UDF
already has a unique object identifier associated with each inode -
i_unique. Use that for initialization of i_generation.

NFS can easily ask for inodes that are already deleted. Currently UDF
happily returns such inodes which is a bug. Return -ESTALE if
udf_read_inode() is asked to read deleted inode.

Currently __udf_read_inode() wasn't returning anything and we found out
whether we succeeded reading inode by checking whether inode is bad or
not. udf_iget() returned NULL on failure and inode pointer otherwise.
Make these two functions properly propagate errors up the call stack and
use the return value in callers.

We did not implement any bound on number of indirect ICBs we follow when
loading inode. Thus corrupted medium could cause kernel to go into an
infinite loop, possibly causing a stack overflow.
Fix the possible stack overflow by removing recursion from
__udf_read_inode() and limit number of indirect ICBs we follow to avoid
infinite loops.

If we are writing back inode of unlinked directory, its link count ends
up being (u16)-1. Although the inode is deleted, udf_iget() can load the
inode when NFS uses stale file handle and get confused.

Valid data within i_size in page cache will be copied to ICB cache when we
writeback the page by invoking udf_adinicb_writepage, so the copy in
udf_adinicb_write_end is redundant.
After we remove the copy, it's better to use simple_write_end directly in
udf_adinicb_aops instead of udf_adinicb_write_end.

Reclaim will be leaving shadow entries in the page cache radix tree upon
evicting the real page. As those pages are found from the LRU, an
iput() can lead to the inode being freed concurrently. At this point,
reclaim must no longer install shadow pages because the inode freeing
code needs to ensure the page tree is really empty.
Add an address_space flag, AS_EXITING, that the inode freeing code sets
under the tree lock before doing the final truncate. Reclaim will check
for this flag before installing shadow pages.

UDF has two types of files - files with data stored in inode (ICB in
UDF terminology) and files with data stored in external data blocks. We
convert file from in-inode format to external format in
udf_file_aio_write() when we find out data won't fit into inode any
longer. However the following race between two O_APPEND writes can happen:

into the inode and using __generic_file_aio_write() afterwards which
puts check and write into one critical section.

The UDF driver was not strict enough about checking the IDs in the
VSDs when mounting, which resulted in reading through all the sectors
of the block device in some unfortunate cases. Eg, trying to mount my
uninitialized 200G SSD partition (all 0xFF bytes) took ~350 minutes to
fail, because the code expected some of the valid IDs or a zero byte.
During this, the mount couldn't be killed, sync from the cmdline
blocked, and the machine froze into the shutdown. Valid filesystems
(extX, btrfs, ntfs) were rejected by the mere accident of having a
zero byte at just the right place in some of their sectors, close
enough to the beginning not to generate excess I/O. The fix adds a
hard limit on the VSD sector offset, adds the two missing VSD IDs, and
stops scanning when encountering an invalid ID. Also replaced the
magic number 32768 with a more meaningful #define, and supressed the
bogus message about failing to read the first sector if no UDF fs was
detected.

A user has reported an oops in udf_statfs() that was caused by
numOfPartitions entry in LVID structure being corrupted. Fix the problem
by verifying whether numOfPartitions makes sense at least to the extent
that LVID fits into a single block as it should.

Refuse RW mount of udf filesystem. So far we just silently changed it
to RO mount but when the media is writeable, block layer won't notice
this change and thus will think device is used RW and will block eject
button of the drive. That is unexpected by users because for
non-writeable media eject button works just fine.
Userspace mount(8) command handles this just fine and retries mounting
with MS_RDONLY set so userspace shouldn't see any regression. Plus any
tool mounting udf is likely confronted with the case of read-only
media where block layer already refuses to mount the filesystem without
MS_RDONLY set so our behavior shouldn't be anything new for it.

Change all function used in filesystem discovery during mount to user
standard kernel return values - -errno on error, 0 on success instead
of 1 on failure and 0 on success. This allows us to pass error number
(not just failure / success) so we can abort device scanning earlier
in case of errors like EIO or ENOMEM . Also we will be able to return
EROFS in case writeable mount is requested but writing isn't supported.

This code doesn't serve any purpose anymore, since the aio retry
infrastructure has been removed.
This change should be safe because aio_read/write are also used for
synchronous IO, and called from do_sync_read()/do_sync_write() - and
there's no looping done in the sync case (the read and write syscalls).

According to SUSv3:
[EACCES] Permission denied. An attempt was made to access a file in a way
forbidden by its file access permissions.
[EPERM] Operation not permitted. An attempt was made to perform an operation
limited to processes with appropriate privileges or to the owner of a file
or other resource.
So -EPERM should be returned if capability checks fails.
Strictly speaking this is an API change since the error code user sees is
altered.

struct udf_bitmap has array of buffer pointers attached to it. The code
unnecessarily used s_block_bitmap as a pointer to the array instead of
the standard trick of using 0 length array in the declaration. Change
that to make code more readable and actually shrink the structure by one
pointer.

For large UDF filesystems with 512-byte blocks the number of necessary
bitmap blocks is larger than 2^16 so s_nr_groups in udf_bitmap overflows
(the number will overflow for filesystems larger than 128 GB with
512-byte blocks). That results in ENOSPC errors despite the filesystem
has plenty of free space.
Fix the problem by changing s_nr_groups' type to 'int'. That is enough
even for filesystems 2^32 blocks (UDF maximum) and 512-byte blocksize.

This patch implements extent caching in case of file reading.
While reading a file, currently, UDF reads metadata serially
which takes a lot of time depending on the number of extents present
in the file. Caching last accessd extent improves metadata read time.
Instead of reading file metadata from start, now we read from
the cached extent.
This patch considerably improves the time spent by CPU in kernel mode.
For example, while reading a 10.9 GB file using dd:

So far we just marked the buffer as dirty and left writing on flusher thread
but especially on opening that opens possible race window where we could write
other modified fs structures to disk before we mark filesystem as open. So sync
LVID buffer to disk after opening and closing fs.

This patch fixes a regression caused by commit bff943af6f "udf: Fix memory
leak when mounting" due to which it was triggering a kernel null point
dereference in case of interrupted mount OR when allocating memory to
sbi->s_partmaps failed in function udf_sb_alloc_partition_maps.

(BTW, I'm seriously tempted to rename the result to fd.c. As it is,
we have a situation when file_table.c is about handling of struct
file and file.c is about handling of descriptor tables; the reasons
are historical - file_table.c used to be about a static array of
struct file we used to have way back).
A lot of stray ends got cleaned up and converted to saner primitives,
disgusting mess in android/binder.c is still disgusting, but at least
doesn't poke so much in descriptor table guts anymore. A bunch of
relatively minor races got fixed in process, plus an ext4 struct file
leak.
- related thing - fget_light() partially unuglified; see fdget() in
there (and yes, it generates the code as good as we used to have).

There's no reason to call rcu_barrier() on every
deactivate_locked_super(). We only need to make sure that all delayed rcu
free inodes are flushed before we destroy related cache.
Removing rcu_barrier() from deactivate_locked_super() affects some fast
paths. E.g. on my machine exit_group() of a last process in IPC
namespace takes 0.07538s. rcu_barrier() takes 0.05188s of that time.

Pull user namespace changes from Eric Biederman:
"This is a mostly modest set of changes to enable basic user namespace
support. This allows the code to code to compile with user namespaces
enabled and removes the assumption there is only the initial user
namespace. Everything is converted except for the most complex of the
filesystems: autofs4, 9p, afs, ceph, cifs, coda, fuse, gfs2, ncpfs,
nfs, ocfs2 and xfs as those patches need a bit more review.
The strategy is to push kuid_t and kgid_t values are far down into
subsystems and filesystems as reasonable. Leaving the make_kuid and
from_kuid operations to happen at the edge of userspace, as the values
come off the disk, and as the values come in from the network.
Letting compile type incompatible compile errors (present when user
namespaces are enabled) guide me to find the issues.
The most tricky areas have been the places where we had an implicit
union of uid and gid values and were storing them in an unsigned int.
Those places were converted into explicit unions. I made certain to
handle those places with simple trivial patches.
Out of that work I discovered we have generic interfaces for storing
quota by projid. I had never heard of the project identifiers before.
Adding full user namespace support for project identifiers accounts
for most of the code size growth in my git tree.
Ultimately there will be work to relax privlige checks from
"capable(FOO)" to "ns_capable(user_ns, FOO)" where it is safe allowing
root in a user names to do those things that today we only forbid to
non-root users because it will confuse suid root applications.
While I was pushing kuid_t and kgid_t changes deep into the audit code
I made a few other cleanups. I capitalized on the fact we process
netlink messages in the context of the message sender. I removed
usage of NETLINK_CRED, and started directly using current->tty.
Some of these patches have also made it into maintainer trees, with no
problems from identical code from different trees showing up in
linux-next.
After reading through all of this code I feel like I might be able to
win a game of kernel trivial pursuit."

Add support for the O_DIRECT flag. There are two cases to deal with:
1. Small files stored in the ICB (inode control block?): just return 0
from the new udf_adinicb_direct_IO() handler to fall back to buffered
I/O.
2. Larger files, not stored in the ICB: nothing special here. Just call
blockdev_direct_IO() from our new udf_direct_IO() handler and tidy up
any blocks instantiated outside i_size on error. This is pretty
standard. Factor error handling code out of udf_write_begin() into new
function udf_write_failed() so it can also be called by udf_direct_IO().
Also change the whitespace in udf_aops to make it a bit neater.

When a file is stored in ICB (inode), we overwrite part of the file, and
the page containing file's data is not in page cache, we end up corrupting
file's data by overwriting them with zeros. The problem is we use
simple_write_begin() which simply zeroes parts of the page which are not
written to. The problem has been introduced by be021ee4 (udf: convert to
new aops).
Fix the problem by providing a ->write_begin function which makes the page
properly uptodate.
