When binding an UDC driver to the pending gadget fails in
check_pending_gadget_drivers(), the usb_add_gadget_udc_release() function
ends without waiting for the usb_gadget_state_work to finish, what in
turn might cause the whole struct usb_gadget being freed by the caller
before the usb_gadget_state_work being executed.
This can be observed on some boards with USB Mass Storage gadget

The threaded interrupt handler may still be called after the
usb_gadget_disconnect is called, it causes the structures used
at interrupt handler was freed before it uses, eg the
usb_request. This issue usually occurs we remove the udc function
during the transfer. Below is the example when doing stress
test for android switch function, the EP0's request is freed
by .unbind (configfs_composite_unbind -> composite_dev_cleanup),
but the threaded handler accesses this request during handling
setup packet request.
In fact, there is no protection between unbind the udc
and udc interrupt handling, so we have to avoid the interrupt
handler is occurred or scheduled during the .unbind flow.

Endpoints with a maxpacket length of 0 are probably useless. They
can't transfer any data, and it's not at all unlikely that a UDC will
crash or hang when trying to handle a non-zero-length usb_request for
such an endpoint. Indeed, dummy-hcd gets a divide error when trying
to calculate the remainder of a transfer length by the maxpacket
value, as discovered by the syzbot fuzzer.
Currently the gadget core does not check for endpoints having a
maxpacket value of 0. This patch adds a check to usb_ep_enable(),
preventing such endpoints from being used.
As far as I know, none of the gadget drivers in the kernel tries to
create an endpoint with maxpacket = 0, but until now there has been
nothing to prevent userspace programs under gadgetfs or configfs from
doing it.

Commit bf594c1070 ("USB: gadget: Document that certain ep operations
can be called in interrupt context") documented that usb_ep_dequeue()
may be called in a non-process context. It follows that the routine
must not sleep or wait for events.
However, the routine's existing kerneldoc seems to imply that it will
wait until the request being cancelled has fully completed. This is
not so, and thus the comment needs to be improved. Misunderstanding
this point may very well have been responsible for a bug recently
uncovered in the f_fs function.
The updated comment explicitly says that the routine may return before
the request's completion handler is called.

The gadget documentation doesn't state clearly whether a gadget
driver's ->disconnect() callback should be invoked when the D+ pullup
is turned off. Some UDC drivers do this and some don't. This patch
settles the issue by making the core function usb_gadget_disconnect()
issue the callback, so that UDC drivers don't need to worry about it.
A description of the new behavior is added to the function's
kerneldoc. Also, the patch removes a few superseded callbacks from
other core routines.
Future patches will remove the ->disconnect() calls from the UDC
drivers that make them, as they are now unnecessary. Until all those
patches are merged gadget drivers may receive extra ->disconnect()
callbacks, but this should be harmless.

Improve the kerneldoc for usb_ep_queue() to note explicitly that the
request's completion routine will be called if and only if the return
value is 0. The corresponding fact about usb_submit_urb() for the

intention for the gadget API. But until now, documentation seems to
have been lacking.

This is done on a quest to remove the 700+ different ways that files in

The usb_add_gadget_udc_release() routine in the USB gadget core will
sometimes but not always call the gadget's release function when an
error occurs. More specifically, if the struct usb_udc allocation
fails then the release function is not called, and for other errors it
is.
As a result, users of this routine cannot know whether they need to
deallocate the memory containing the gadget structure following an
error. This leads to unavoidable memory leaks or double frees.
This patch fixes the problem by splitting the existing
device_register() call into device_initialize() and device_add(), and
doing the udc allocation in between. That way, even if the allocation
fails it is still possible to call device_del(), and so the release
function will be always called following an error.

In the SG case this is already handled since a non-zero
request->num_mapped_sgs is a clear indicator that dma_map_sg()
had been called. While it would be nice to do the same for the
singly mapped case by simply checking for non-zero request->dma,
it's conceivable that 0 is a valid dma_addr_t handle. Hence add
a flag 'dma_mapped' to struct usb_request and use this to
determine the need to call dma_unmap_single(). Otherwise, if a
request is not DMA mapped then the result of calling
usb_request_unmap_request() would safely be a no-op.

Sometimes, the gadget driver we want to run has max_speed lower than
what the UDC supports. In such situations, UDC might want to make sure
we don't try to connect on speeds not supported by the gadget
driver (e.g. super-speed capable dwc3 with high-speed capable g_midi)
because that will just fail.
In order to make sure this situation never happens, we introduce a new
optional ->udc_set_speed() method which can be implemented by
interested UDC drivers.

allow usb_del_gadget_udc() and usb add_gadget_udc() to be called
repeatedly on the same gadget->dev structure.
We need to clear the gadget->dev structure so that kobject_init()
doesn't complain about already initialized object.

Since:
commit 855ed04a37 ("usb: gadget: udc-core: independent registration
of gadgets and gadget drivers")
if we load gadget module but there is no free udc available
then it will be stored on a pending gadgets list.
$ modprobe g_zero.ko
$ modprobe g_ether.ko
[] udc-core: couldn't find an available UDC - added [g_ether] to list
of pending drivers
We scan this list each time when new UDC appears in system.
But we can get a free UDC each time after gadget unbind.
This commit add scanning of that list directly after unbinding
gadget from udc.
Thanks to this, when we unload first gadget:
$ rmmod g_zero.ko
gadget which is pending is automatically
attached to that UDC (if name matches).

This time around we have 92 non-merge commits. Most
of the changes are in drivers/usb/gadget (40.3%)
with drivers/usb/gadget/function being the most
active directory (27.2%).
As for UDC drivers, only dwc3 (26.5%) and dwc2
(12.7%) have really been active.
The most important changes for dwc3 are better
support for scatterlist and, again, throughput
improvements. While on dwc2 got some minor stability
fixes related to soft reset and FIFO usage.
Felipe Tonello has done some good work fixing up our
f_midi gadget and Tal Shorer has implemented a nice
API change for our ULPI bus.
Apart from these, we have our usual set of
non-critical fixes, spelling fixes, build warning
fixes, etc.

This new set of tracepoints will help all gadget
drivers and UDC drivers when problem appears. Note
that, in order to be able to add tracepoints to
udc-core.c we had to rename that to core.c and
statically link it with trace.c to form
udc-core.o. This is to make sure that module name
stays the same.
