Lu Baolu 512881eacf bus: platform,amba,fsl-mc,PCI: Add device DMA ownership management
The devices on platform/amba/fsl-mc/PCI buses could be bound to drivers
with the device DMA managed by kernel drivers or user-space applications.
Unfortunately, multiple devices may be placed in the same IOMMU group
because they cannot be isolated from each other. The DMA on these devices
must either be entirely under kernel control or userspace control, never
a mixture. Otherwise the driver integrity is not guaranteed because they
could access each other through the peer-to-peer accesses which by-pass
the IOMMU protection.

This checks and sets the default DMA mode during driver binding, and
cleanups during driver unbinding. In the default mode, the device DMA is
managed by the device driver which handles DMA operations through the
kernel DMA APIs (see Documentation/core-api/dma-api.rst).

For cases where the devices are assigned for userspace control through the
userspace driver framework(i.e. VFIO), the drivers(for example, vfio_pci/
vfio_platfrom etc.) may set a new flag (driver_managed_dma) to skip this
default setting in the assumption that the drivers know what they are
doing with the device DMA.

Calling iommu_device_use_default_domain() before {of,acpi}_dma_configure
is currently a problem. As things stand, the IOMMU driver ignored the
initial iommu_probe_device() call when the device was added, since at
that point it had no fwspec yet. In this situation,
{of,acpi}_iommu_configure() are retriggering iommu_probe_device() after
the IOMMU driver has seen the firmware data via .of_xlate to learn that
it actually responsible for the given device. As the result, before
that gets fixed, iommu_use_default_domain() goes at the end, and calls
arch_teardown_dma_ops() if it fails.

Lu Baolu 25f3bcfc54 driver core: Add dma_cleanup callback in bus_type
The bus_type structure defines dma_configure() callback for bus drivers
to configure DMA on the devices. This adds the paired dma_cleanup()
callback and calls it during driver unbinding so that bus drivers can do
some cleanup work.

One use case for this paired DMA callbacks is for the bus driver to check
for DMA ownership conflicts during driver binding, where multiple devices
belonging to a same IOMMU group (the minimum granularity of isolation and
protection) may be assigned to kernel drivers or user space respectively.

Without this change, for example, the vfio driver has to listen to a bus
BOUND_DRIVER event and then BUG_ON() in case of dma ownership conflict.
This leads to bad user experience since careless driver binding operation
may crash the system if the admin overlooks the group restriction. Aside
from bad design, this leads to a security problem as a root user, even with
lockdown=integrity, can force the kernel to BUG.

With this change, the bus driver could check and set the DMA ownership in
driver binding process and fail on ownership conflicts. The DMA ownership
should be released during driver unbinding.

Won Chung 6423d29510 driver core: Add sysfs support for physical location of a device
When ACPI table includes _PLD fields for a device, create a new
directory (physical_location) in sysfs to share _PLD fields.

Currently without PLD information, when there are multiple of same
devices, it is hard to distinguish which device corresponds to which
physical device at which location. For example, when there are two Type
C connectors, it is hard to find out which connector corresponds to the
Type C port on the left panel versus the Type C port on the right panel.
With PLD information provided, we can determine which specific device at
which location is doing what.

_PLD output includes much more fields, but only generic fields are added
and exposed to sysfs, so that non-ACPI devices can also support it in
the future. The minimal generic fields needed for locating a device are
the following.
- panel
- vertical_position
- horizontal_position
- dock
- lid

Sergey Shtylyov ce753ad154 platform: finally disallow IRQ0 in platform_get_irq() and its ilk
The commit a85a6c86c2 ("driver core: platform: Clarify that IRQ 0 is
invalid") only calls WARN() when IRQ0 is about to be returned, however
using IRQ0 is considered invalid (according to Linus) outside the arch/
code where it's used by the i8253 drivers. Many driver subsystems treat
0 specially (e.g. as an indication of the polling mode by libata), so
the users of platform_get_irq[_byname]() in them would have to filter
out IRQ0 explicitly and this (quite obviously) doesn't scale...
Let's finally get this straight and return -EINVAL instead of IRQ0!

Russ Weight 97730bbb24 firmware_loader: Add firmware-upload support
Extend the firmware subsystem to support a persistent sysfs interface that
userspace may use to initiate a firmware update. For example, FPGA based
PCIe cards load firmware and FPGA images from local FLASH when the card
boots. The images in FLASH may be updated with new images provided by the
user at his/her convenience.

A device driver may call firmware_upload_register() to expose persistent
"loading" and "data" sysfs files. These files are used in the same way as
the fallback sysfs "loading" and "data" files. When 0 is written to
"loading" to complete the write of firmware data, the data is transferred
to the lower-level driver using pre-registered call-back functions. The
data transfer is done in the context of a kernel worker thread.

used to validate access to the firmware files requested by the driver.
Ensure that the kernel assumes the responsibility of reading the
firmware.

This was observed on Android for a graphic driver loading their firmware
when the device file (e.g. /dev/mali0) was first opened by userspace
(i.e. surfaceflinger). The security context of surfaceflinger was used
to validate the access to the firmware file (e.g.
/vendor/firmware/mali.bin).

Because previous configurations were relying on the userspace fallback
mechanism, the security context of the userspace daemon (i.e. ueventd)
was consistently used to read firmware files. More devices are found to
use the command line argument firmware_class.path which gives the kernel
the opportunity to read the firmware directly, hence surfacing this
misattribution.

Darren Hart db1e59483d topology: make core_mask include at least cluster_siblings
Ampere Altra defines CPU clusters in the ACPI PPTT. They share a Snoop
Control Unit, but have no shared CPU-side last level cache.

cpu_coregroup_mask() will return a cpumask with weight 1, while
cpu_clustergroup_mask() will return a cpumask with weight 2.

As a result, build_sched_domain() will BUG() once per CPU with:

BUG: arch topology borken
the CLS domain not a subset of the MC domain

The MC level cpumask is then extended to that of the CLS child, and is
later removed entirely as redundant. This sched domain topology is an
improvement over previous topologies, or those built without
SCHED_CLUSTER, particularly for certain latency sensitive workloads.
With the current scheduler model and heuristics, this is a desirable
default topology for Ampere Altra and Altra Max system.

Rather than create a custom sched domains topology structure and
introduce new logic in arch/arm64 to detect these systems, update the
core_mask so coregroup is never a subset of clustergroup, extending it
to cluster_siblings if necessary. Only do this if CONFIG_SCHED_CLUSTER
is enabled to avoid also changing the topology (MC) when
CONFIG_SCHED_CLUSTER is disabled.

This has the added benefit over a custom topology of working for both
symmetric and asymmetric topologies. It does not address systems where
the CLUSTER topology is above a populated MC topology, but these are not
considered today and can be addressed separately if and when they
appear.

The final sched domain topology for a 2 socket Ampere Altra system is
unchanged with or without CONFIG_SCHED_CLUSTER, and the BUG is avoided:

For CPU0:

CONFIG_SCHED_CLUSTER=y
CLS  [0-1]
DIE  [0-79]
NUMA [0-159]

CONFIG_SCHED_CLUSTER is not set

Some of the fwnode APIs might return an error pointer instead of NULL

optional and hence the test for it is usually done in a form of

	fwnode = fwnode_find_reference(...);
	if (IS_ERR(fwnode))
		...error handling...

Nevertheless the resulting fwnode may have bumped the reference count
and hence caller of the above API is obliged to call fwnode_handle_put().
Since fwnode may be not valid either as NULL or error pointer the check
has to be performed there. This approach uglifies the code and adds
a point of making a mistake, i.e. forgetting about error point case.

To prevent this, allow an error pointer to be passed to the fwnode APIs.

Vladimir Oltean 74befa447e net: mdio: don't defer probe forever if PHY IRQ provider is missing
When a driver for an interrupt controller is missing, of_irq_get()
returns -EPROBE_DEFER ad infinitum, causing
fwnode_mdiobus_phy_device_register(), and ultimately, the entire
of_mdiobus_register() call, to fail. In turn, any phy_connect() call
towards a PHY on this MDIO bus will also fail.

This is not what is expected to happen, because the PHY library falls
back to poll mode when of_irq_get() returns a hard error code, and the
MDIO bus, PHY and attached Ethernet controller work fine, albeit
suboptimally, when the PHY library polls for link status. However,
-EPROBE_DEFER has special handling given the assumption that at some
point probe deferral will stop, and the driver for the supplier will
kick in and create the IRQ domain.

Reasons for which the interrupt controller may be missing:

- It is not yet written. This may happen if a more recent DT blob (with
  an interrupt-parent for the PHY) is used to boot an old kernel where
  the driver didn't exist, and that kernel worked with the
  vintage-correct DT blob using poll mode.

- It is compiled out. Behavior is the same as above.

- It is compiled as a module. The kernel will wait for a number of
  seconds specified in the "deferred_probe_timeout" boot parameter for
  user space to load the required module. The current default is 0,
  which times out at the end of initcalls. It is possible that this
  might cause regressions unless users adjust this boot parameter.

The proposed solution is to use the driver_deferred_probe_check_state()
helper function provided by the driver core, which gives up after some
-EPROBE_DEFER attempts, taking "deferred_probe_timeout" into consideration.
The return code is changed from -EPROBE_DEFER into -ENODEV or
-ETIMEDOUT, depending on whether the kernel is compiled with support for
modules or not.

David Hildenbrand 2aa065f7af drivers/base/memory: clarify adding and removing of memory blocks
Let's make it clearer at which places we actually add and remove memory
blocks -- streamlining the terminology -- and highlight which memory block
start out online and which start out as offline.

 * rename add_memory_block -> add_boot_memory_block
 * rename init_memory_block -> add_memory_block
 * rename unregister_memory -> remove_memory_block
 * rename register_memory -> __add_memory_block
 * add add_hotplug_memory_block
 * mark add_boot_memory_block with __init (suggested by Oscar)

__add_memory_block() is a pure helper for add_memory_block(), remove
the somewhat obvious comment.

David Hildenbrand 395f6081ba drivers/base/memory: determine and store zone for single-zone memory blocks
test_pages_in_a_zone() is just another nasty PFN walker that can easily
stumble over ZONE_DEVICE memory ranges falling into the same memory block
as ordinary system RAM: the memmap of parts of these ranges might possibly
be uninitialized. In fact, we observed (on an older kernel) with UBSAN:

We seem to stumble over a memmap that contains a garbage zone id. While
we could try inserting pfn_to_online_page() calls, it will just make
memory offlining slower, because we use test_pages_in_a_zone() to make
sure we're offlining pages that all belong to the same zone.

Let's just get rid of this PFN walker and determine the single zone of a
memory block -- if any -- for early memory blocks during boot. For memory
onlining, we know the single zone already. Let's avoid any additional
memmap scanning and just rely on the zone information available during
boot.

For memory hot(un)plug, we only really care about memory blocks that:
* span a single zone (and, thereby, a single node)
* are completely System RAM (IOW, no holes, no ZONE_DEVICE)
If one of these conditions is not met, we reject memory offlining.
Hotplugged memory blocks (starting out offline), always meet both
conditions.

There are three scenarios to handle:

(1) Memory hot(un)plug

A memory block with zone == NULL cannot be offlined, corresponding to
our previous test_pages_in_a_zone() check.

After successful memory onlining/offlining, we simply set the zone
accordingly.
* Memory onlining: set the zone we just used for onlining
* Memory offlining: set zone = NULL

So a hotplugged memory block starts with zone = NULL. Once memory
onlining is done, we set the proper zone.

(2) Boot memory with !CONFIG_NUMA

We know that there is just a single pgdat, so we simply scan all zones
of that pgdat for an intersection with our memory block PFN range when
adding the memory block. If more than one zone intersects (e.g., DMA and
DMA32 on x86 for the first memory block) we set zone = NULL and
consequently mimic what test_pages_in_a_zone() used to do.

(3) Boot memory with CONFIG_NUMA

At the point in time we create the memory block devices during boot, we
don't know yet which nodes *actually* span a memory block. While we could
scan all zones of all nodes for intersections, overlapping nodes complicate
the situation and scanning all nodes is possibly expensive. But that
problem has already been solved by the code that sets the node of a memory
block and creates the link in the sysfs --
do_register_memory_block_under_node().

So, we hook into the code that sets the node id for a memory block. If
we already have a different node id set for the memory block, we know
that multiple nodes *actually* have PFNs falling into our memory block:
we set zone = NULL and consequently mimic what test_pages_in_a_zone() used
to do. If there is no node id set, we do the same as (2) for the given
node.

Note that the call order in driver_init() is:
-> memory_dev_init(): create memory block devices
-> node_dev_init(): link memory block devices to the node and set the
		    node id

So in summary, we detect if there is a single zone responsible for this
memory block and we consequently store the zone in that case in the
memory block, updating it during memory onlining/offlining.

David Hildenbrand cc6515591b drivers/base/node: rename link_mem_sections() to register_memory_block_under_node()
Patch series "drivers/base/memory: determine and store zone for single-zone memory blocks", v2.

I remember talking to Michal in the past about removing
test_pages_in_a_zone(), which we use for:
* verifying that a memory block we intend to offline is really only managed
  by a single zone. We don't support offlining of memory blocks that are
  managed by multiple zones (e.g., multiple nodes, DMA and DMA32)
* exposing that zone to user space via
  /sys/devices/system/memory/memory*/valid_zones

Now that I identified some more cases where test_pages_in_a_zone() might
go wrong, and we received an UBSAN report (see patch #3), let's get rid of
this PFN walker.

So instead of detecting the zone at runtime with test_pages_in_a_zone() by
scanning the memmap, let's determine and remember for each memory block if
it's managed by a single zone. The stored zone can then be used for the
above two cases, avoiding a manual lookup using test_pages_in_a_zone().

This avoids eventually stumbling over uninitialized memmaps in corner
cases, especially when ZONE_DEVICE ranges partly fall into memory block
(that are responsible for managing System RAM).

Handling memory onlining is easy, because we online to exactly one zone.
Handling boot memory is more tricky, because we want to avoid scanning all
zones of all nodes to detect possible zones that overlap with the physical
memory region of interest. Fortunately, we already have code that
determines the applicable nodes for a memory block, to create sysfs links
-- we'll hook into that.

Patch #1 is a simple cleanup I had laying around for a longer time.
Patch #2 contains the main logic to remove test_pages_in_a_zone() and
further details.

This patch (of 2):

Let's adjust the stale terminology, making it match
unregister_memory_block_under_nodes() and
do_register_memory_block_under_node(). We're dealing with memory block
devices, which span 1..X memory sections.

David Hildenbrand 2848a28b0a drivers/base/node: consolidate node device subsystem initialization in node_dev_init()
...  and call node_dev_init() after memory_dev_init() from driver_init(),
so before any of the existing arch/subsys calls. All online nodes should
be known at that point: early during boot, arch code determines node and
zone ranges and sets the relevant nodes online; usually this happens in
setup_arch().

This is in line with memory_dev_init(), which initializes the memory
device subsystem and creates all memory block devices.

Similar to memory_dev_init(), panic() if anything goes wrong, we don't
want to continue with such basic initialization errors.

The important part is that node_dev_init() gets called after
memory_dev_init() and after cpu_dev_init(), but before any of the relevant
archs call register_cpu() to register the new cpu device under the node
device. The latter should be the case for the current users of
topology_init().

Pull power management updates from Rafael Wysocki:
 "These are mostly fixes and cleanups all over the code and a new piece
  of documentation for Intel uncore frequency scaling.

  Functionality-wise, the intel_idle driver will support Sapphire Rapids
  Xeons natively now (with some extra facilities for controlling
  C-states more precisely on those systems), virtual guests will take
  the ACPI S4 hardware signature into account by default, the
  intel_pstate driver will take the defualt EPP value from the firmware,
  cpupower utility will support the AMD P-state driver added in the
  previous cycle, and there is a new tracer utility for that driver.

  Specifics:

   - Allow device_pm_check_callbacks() to be called from interrupt

   - Modify devm_pm_runtime_enable() to automatically handle

regmap: allow a defined reg_base to be added to every address
There's an inconsistency that arises when a register set can be accessed
internally via MMIO, or externally via SPI. The VSC7514 chip allows both
modes of operation. When internally accessed, the system utilizes __iomem,
devm_ioremap_resource, and devm_regmap_init_mmio.

For SPI it isn't possible to utilize memory-mapped IO. To properly operate,
the resource base must be added to the register before every operation.

regmap: add configurable downshift for addresses
Add an additional reg_downshift to be applied to register addresses before
any register accesses. An example of a device that uses this is a VSC7514

access is performed over a SPI bus.

Geert Uytterhoeven b0f6807d35 base: soc: Make soc_device_match() simpler and easier to read
The function soc_device_match() is difficult to read for various
reasons:
  - There are two loop conditions using different styles: "while (...)"
    (which is BTW always true) vs. "if ... break",
  - The are two return condition using different logic: "if ... return
    foo" vs. "if ... else return bar".

Make the code easier to read by:
  1. Removing the always-true "!ret" loop condition, and dropping the
     now unneeded pre-initialization of "ret",
  2. Converting "if ... break" to a proper "while (...)" loop condition,
  3. Inverting the logic of the second return condition.

Randy Dunlap f2aad54703 driver core: dd: fix return value of __setup handler
When "driver_async_probe=nulltty" is used on the kernel boot command line,
it causes an Unknown parameter message and the string is added to init's
environment strings, polluting them.

  Unknown kernel command line parameters "BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/bzImage-517rc6
  driver_async_probe=nulltty", will be passed to user space.

 Run /sbin/init as init process
   with arguments:
     /sbin/init
   with environment:
     HOME=/
     TERM=linux
     BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/bzImage-517rc6
     driver_async_probe=nulltty

Change the return value of the __setup function to 1 to indicate
that the __setup option has been handled.

Ionela Voinescu 9924fbb51e arch_topology: obtain cpu capacity using information from CPPC
Define topology_init_cpu_capacity_cppc() to use highest performance
values from _CPC objects to obtain and set maximum capacity information
for each CPU. acpi_cppc_processor_probe() is a good point at which to
trigger the initialization of CPU (u-arch) capacity values, as at this
point the highest performance values can be obtained from each CPU's
_CPC objects. Architectures can therefore use this functionality
through arch_init_invariance_cppc().

The performance scale used by CPPC is a unified scale for all CPUs in
the system. Therefore, by obtaining the raw highest performance values
from the _CPC objects, and normalizing them on the [0, 1024] capacity
scale, used by the task scheduler, we obtain the CPU capacity of each
CPU.

While an ACPI Notify(0x85) could alert about a change in the highest
performance value, which should in turn retrigger the CPU capacity
computations, this notification is not currently handled by the ACPI
processor driver. When supported, a call to arch_init_invariance_cppc()
would perform the update.

Dmitry Baryshkov 524bb1da78 PM: core: keep irq flags in device_pm_check_callbacks()
The function device_pm_check_callbacks() can be called under the spin
lock (in the reported case it happens from genpd_add_device() ->
dev_pm_domain_set(), when the genpd uses spinlocks rather than mutexes.

However this function uncoditionally uses spin_lock_irq() /

Douglas Anderson b4060db925 PM: runtime: Have devm_pm_runtime_enable() handle pm_runtime_dont_use_autosuspend()
The PM Runtime docs say:

  Drivers in ->remove() callback should undo the runtime PM changes done
  in ->probe(). Usually this means calling pm_runtime_disable(),
  pm_runtime_dont_use_autosuspend() etc.

From grepping code, it's clear that many people aren't aware of the
need to call pm_runtime_dont_use_autosuspend().

When brainstorming solutions, one idea that came up was to leverage
the new-ish devm_pm_runtime_enable() function. The idea here is that:

 * When the devm action is called we know that the driver is being
   removed. It's the perfect time to undo the use_autosuspend.

 * The code of pm_runtime_dont_use_autosuspend() already handles the
   case of being called when autosuspend wasn't enabled.

Ulf Hansson e7d90cfac5 PM: domains: Prevent power off for parent unless child is in deepest state
A PM domain managed by genpd may support multiple idlestates (power-off
states). During genpd_power_off() a genpd governor may be asked to select
one of the idlestates based upon the dev PM QoS constraints, for example.

However, there is a problem with the behaviour around this in genpd. More
precisely, a parent-domain is allowed to be powered off, no matter of what
idlestate that has been selected for the child-domain.

For the stm32mp1 platform from STMicro, this behaviour doesn't play well.
Instead, the parent-domain must not be powered off, unless the deepest
idlestate has been selected for the child-domain. As the current behaviour
in genpd is quite questionable anyway, let's simply change it into what is
needed by the stm32mp1 platform.

If it surprisingly turns out that other platforms may need a different
behaviour from genpd, then we will have to revisit this to find a way to
make it configurable.

regmap-irq: Update interrupt clear register for proper reset
With the existing logic where clear_ack is true (HW doesn’t support
auto clear for ICR), interrupt clear register reset is not handled
properly. Due to this only the first interrupts get processed properly
and further interrupts are blocked due to not resetting interrupt
clear register.

Example for issue case where Invert_ack is false and clear_ack is true:

    Say Default ISR=0x00 & ICR=0x00 and ISR is triggered with 2
    interrupts making ISR = 0x11.

    Step 1: Say ISR is set 0x11 (store status_buff = ISR). ISR needs to
            be cleared with the help of ICR once the Interrupt is processed.

    Step 2: Write ICR = 0x11 (status_buff), this will clear the ISR to 0x00.

    Step 3: Issue - In the existing code, ICR is written with ICR =
            ~(status_buff) i.e ICR = 0xEE -> This will block all the interrupts
            from raising except for interrupts 0 and 4. So expectation here is to
            reset ICR, which will unblock all the interrupts.

            if (chip->clear_ack) {
                 if (chip->ack_invert && !ret)
                  ........
                 else if (!ret)
                     ret = regmap_write(map, reg,
                            ~data->status_buf[i]);

So writing 0 and 0xff (when ack_invert is true) should have no effect, other
than clearing the ACKs just set.

Rafael J. Wysocki cb1f65c1e1 PM: s2idle: ACPI: Fix wakeup interrupts handling
After commit e3728b50cd ("ACPI: PM: s2idle: Avoid possible race
related to the EC GPE") wakeup interrupts occurring immediately after
the one discarded by acpi_s2idle_wake() may be missed. Moreover, if
the SCI triggers again immediately after the rearming in
acpi_s2idle_wake(), that wakeup may be missed too.

The problem is that pm_system_irq_wakeup() only calls pm_system_wakeup()
when pm_wakeup_irq is 0, but that's not the case any more after the
interrupt causing acpi_s2idle_wake() to run until pm_wakeup_irq is
cleared by the pm_wakeup_clear() call in s2idle_loop(). However,
there may be wakeup interrupts occurring in that time frame and if
that happens, they will be missed.

To address that issue first move the clearing of pm_wakeup_irq to
the point at which it is known that the interrupt causing
acpi_s2idle_wake() to tun will be discarded, before rearming the SCI
for wakeup. Moreover, because that only reduces the size of the
time window in which the issue may manifest itself, allow
pm_system_irq_wakeup() to register two second wakeup interrupts in
a row and, when discarding the first one, replace it with the second
one. [Of course, this assumes that only one wakeup interrupt can be
discarded in one go, but currently that is the case and I am not
aware of any plans to change that.]

Christoph Hellwig 322cbb50de block: remove genhd.h
There is no good reason to keep genhd.h separate from the main blkdev.h
header that includes it. So fold the contents of genhd.h into blkdev.h
and remove genhd.h entirely.

Tony Luck ab28e94419 topology/sysfs: Add PPIN in sysfs under cpu topology
PPIN is the Protected Processor Identification Number.
This is used to identify the socket as a Field Replaceable Unit (FRU).

Existing code only displays this when reporting errors. But this makes
it inconvenient for large clusters to use it for its intended purpose
of inventory control.

Add ppin to /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/topology to make what
is already available using RDMSR more easily accessible. Make
the file read only for root in case there are still people
concerned about making a unique system "serial number" available.

Tony Luck 182ecfaf75 topology/sysfs: Add format parameter to macro defining "show" functions for proc
All the simple (non-mask and non-list files in
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/topology/ are currently printed as decimal
integers.

Refactor the macro that generates the "show" functions to take a format
parameter to allow future files to display in other formats.

No functional change.

Stephen Boyd 13e906e50a component: Replace most references to 'master' with 'aggregate device'
Remove most references to 'master' in the code and replace them with
some form of 'aggregate device'. This better reflects the reality of
what this code does, i.e. an aggregate device that represents a
device like a GPU card once some set of devices that make up the
aggregate device probe and register with the component framework.
