If the device is removed and hotplug fails
ioread32() will return 0xFFFFFFFF. In that case
reading ringbuffer during device bringup led to
out-of-bounds addressing of a ringbuffer array
that in turn led to a paging failure.
This could be reproduced by the following:
* boot without acpi/prevent hotplug from working
* insert and manually detect (pci rescan) the device
* remove the device physically
* load ath10k driver
* kernel crashed
Ringbuffer index reading is now protected by using
an appropriate mask to prevent addressing an
invalid array index.

ath9k_hif_usb_probe() requests firmware asynchronically and
there is some initialization postponed till firmware is ready.
In particular, ath9k_hif_usb_firmware_cb() callback initializes
hif_dev->tx.tx_buf and hif_dev->tx.tx_pending lists.
At the same time, ath9k_hif_usb_suspend() iterates that lists through
ath9k_hif_usb_dealloc_urbs(). If suspend happens before request_firmware_nowait()
callback is called, it can lead to oops.
Similar issue could be in ath9k_hif_usb_disconnect(), but it is prevented
using hif_dev->fw_done completion and HIF_USB_READY flag. The patch extends
this approach to suspend() as well.

Pull networking updates from David Miller:
"This is a re-do of the net-next pull request for the current merge
window. The only difference from the one I made the other day is that
this has Eliezer's interface renames and the timeout handling changes
made based upon your feedback, as well as a few bug fixes that have
trickeled in.
Highlights:
1) Low latency device polling, eliminating the cost of interrupt
handling and context switches. Allows direct polling of a network
device from socket operations, such as recvmsg() and poll().
Currently ixgbe, mlx4, and bnx2x support this feature.
Full high level description, performance numbers, and design in
commit 0a4db187a9 ("Merge branch 'll_poll'")
From Eliezer Tamir.
2) With the routing cache removed, ip_check_mc_rcu() gets exercised
more than ever before in the case where we have lots of multicast
addresses. Use a hash table instead of a simple linked list, from
Eric Dumazet.
3) Add driver for Atheros CQA98xx 802.11ac wireless devices, from
Bartosz Markowski, Janusz Dziedzic, Kalle Valo, Marek Kwaczynski,
Marek Puzyniak, Michal Kazior, and Sujith Manoharan.
4) Support reporting the TUN device persist flag to userspace, from
Pavel Emelyanov.
5) Allow controlling network device VF link state using netlink, from
Rony Efraim.
6) Support GRE tunneling in openvswitch, from Pravin B Shelar.
7) Adjust SOCK_MIN_RCVBUF and SOCK_MIN_SNDBUF for modern times, from
Daniel Borkmann and Eric Dumazet.
8) Allow controlling of TCP quickack behavior on a per-route basis,
from Cong Wang.
9) Several bug fixes and improvements to vxlan from Stephen
Hemminger, Pravin B Shelar, and Mike Rapoport. In particular,
support receiving on multiple UDP ports.
10) Major cleanups, particular in the area of debugging and cookie
lifetime handline, to the SCTP protocol code. From Daniel
Borkmann.
11) Allow packets to cross network namespaces when traversing tunnel
devices. From Nicolas Dichtel.
12) Allow monitoring netlink traffic via AF_PACKET sockets, in a
manner akin to how we monitor real network traffic via ptype_all.
From Daniel Borkmann.
13) Several bug fixes and improvements for the new alx device driver,
from Johannes Berg.
14) Fix scalability issues in the netem packet scheduler's time queue,
by using an rbtree. From Eric Dumazet.
15) Several bug fixes in TCP loss recovery handling, from Yuchung
Cheng.
16) Add support for GSO segmentation of MPLS packets, from Simon
Horman.
17) Make network notifiers have a real data type for the opaque
pointer that's passed into them. Use this to properly handle
network device flag changes in arp_netdev_event(). From Jiri
Pirko and Timo Teräs.
18) Convert several drivers over to module_pci_driver(), from Peter
Huewe.
19) tcp_fixup_rcvbuf() can loop 500 times over loopback, just use a
O(1) calculation instead. From Eric Dumazet.
20) Support setting of explicit tunnel peer addresses in ipv6, just
like ipv4. From Nicolas Dichtel.
21) Protect x86 BPF JIT against spraying attacks, from Eric Dumazet.
22) Prevent a single high rate flow from overruning an individual cpu
during RX packet processing via selective flow shedding. From
Willem de Bruijn.
23) Don't use spinlocks in TCP md5 signing fast paths, from Eric
Dumazet.
24) Don't just drop GSO packets which are above the TBF scheduler's
burst limit, chop them up so they are in-bounds instead. Also
from Eric Dumazet.
25) VLAN offloads are missed when configured on top of a bridge, fix
from Vlad Yasevich.
26) Support IPV6 in ping sockets. From Lorenzo Colitti.
27) Receive flow steering targets should be updated at poll() time
too, from David Majnemer.
28) Fix several corner case regressions in PMTU/redirect handling due
to the routing cache removal, from Timo Teräs.
29) We have to be mindful of ipv4 mapped ipv6 sockets in
upd_v6_push_pending_frames(). From Hannes Frederic Sowa.
30) Fix L2TP sequence number handling bugs, from James Chapman."

Conflicts:
drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath9k/Kconfig
drivers/net/xen-netback/netback.c
net/batman-adv/bat_iv_ogm.c
net/wireless/nl80211.c
The ath9k Kconfig conflict was a change of a Kconfig option name right
next to the deletion of another option.
The xen-netback conflict was overlapping changes involving the
handling of the notify list in xen_netbk_rx_action().
Batman conflict resolution provided by Antonio Quartulli, basically
keep everything in both conflict hunks.
The nl80211 conflict is a little more involved. In 'net' we added a
dynamic memory allocation to nl80211_dump_wiphy() to fix a race that
Linus reported. Meanwhile in 'net-next' the handlers were converted
to use pre and post doit handlers which use a flag to determine
whether to hold the RTNL mutex around the operation.
However, the dump handlers to not use this logic. Instead they have
to explicitly do the locking. There were apparent bugs in the
conversion of nl80211_dump_wiphy() in that we were not dropping the
RTNL mutex in all the return paths, and it seems we very much should
be doing so. So I fixed that whilst handling the overlapping changes.
To simplify the initial returns, I take the RTNL mutex after we try
to allocate 'tb'.

With the new rate control API, the driver can now apply the
tx rate to outgoing frames just before they are uploaded to
the device. This is important because the rate control can
now react to fading or improving links a bit sooner.
Also, the driver no longer needs to sort the outgoing frames
for sample attempts (which affected the size of A-MPDUs and
the throughput of the link). For aggregated data frames, the
driver (and rate control) needs only to calculate and apply
a single set of tx rates to every subframe of the whole
aggregate.

The commits,
"ath9k: Fix regression in channelwidth switch at the same channel"
"ath9k: Fix invalid noisefloor reading due to channel update"
attempted to fix noisefloor calibration when a channel switch
happens due to HT20/HT40 bandwidth change. This is causing invalid
readings resulting in messages like:
"ath: phy16: NF[0] (-45) > MAX (-95), correcting to MAX".
This results in an incorrect noise being used initially for reporting
the signal level of received packets, until NF calibration is done
and the history buffer is updated via the ANI timer, which happens
much later.
When a bandwidth change happens, it is appropriate to reset
the internal history data for the channel. Do this correctly in the
reset() routine by checking the "chanmode" variable.

Almost all the DMA issues which have plagued ath9k (in station mode)
for years are related to PS. Disabling PS usually "fixes" the user's
connection stablility. Reports of DMA problems are still trickling in
and are sitting in the kernel bugzilla. Until the PS code in ath9k is
given a thorough review, disbale it by default. The slight increase
in chip power consumption is a small price to pay for improved link

Merge 'net' bug fixes into 'net-next' as we have patches
that will build on top of them.
This merge commit includes a change from Emil Goode

have been introduced by this merge. Specifically it
fixes the pingv6_ops method ipv6_chk_addr() to add a
"const" to the "struct net_device *dev" argument and
likewise update the dummy_ipv6_chk_addr() declaration.

If any bins from the training data are skipped (i != max_index), the
calculated compensation curve gets distorted, and the signal will be
wildly overamplified. This may be the cause of the reported hardware
damage that was caused by PA predistortion (because of which PAPRD was
disabled by default).
When calculating the x_est, Y, theta values, the use of max_index and i
was reversed. i points to the bin index whereas max_index refers to the
index of the calculated arrays.
Note that PA predistortion is still disabled, it will be re-enabled
after it has been properly validated.

Introduce NAPI for Rx and Tx completion.
This fixes packet reordering that happens when Rx handled right in
the IRQ: netif_rx puts packet in 'percpu' queue, then network stack
fetches packets from 'percpu' queues for processing, with different
pattern of queue switching. As result, network stack see packets
in different order. This causes hard to understand TCP throughput
degradation in about 30min

Waiting for all subframes of an existing aggregation session to drain
before allowing mac80211 to start a new one is fragile and deadlocks
caused by this behavior have been observed.
Since mac80211 has proper synchronization for aggregation session
start/stop handling, a better approach to session handling is to simply
allow mac80211 to start a new session at any time. This requires
changing the code to discard any packets outside of the BlockAck window
in the A-MPDU software retry code.
This patch implements the above and also simplifies the code.

After a tx attempt, an A-MPDU subframe can still have fi->retries at 0

In some cases it can be useful to change the MAC address of a virtual
interface to something that's completely different from the EEPROM
stored MAC address. In this case it is a bad idea to use the EEPROM MAC
address for calculating the BSSID mask, as that would make it too wide.
In one case a few devices have been observed to send ACKs for many
packets on the channel not directed at them, which results in a neat

The DFS pattern detector was initially planned to reside on
a higher layer and used generic pr_*() logging functions.
Being part of ath9k, use ath_dbg() instead and make DFS log
ouput selectable via ATH_DBG_DFS (0x20000) at runtime.
This patch does not contain functional modifications.

Pretty much everywhere that uses a trace definition
header that's not in include/trace/events/ uses the
make system for the include path rather than putting
it into the sources, so do that in ath5k as well.
This came up during backporting work (where this is
required), but since all other drivers do it this
way upstream it seemed applicable.

Inside one FIFO slot queue, EDMA chipsets have the same link pointer
re-read race condition as older chipsets, so the same buffer holding
logic needs to be used in order to avoid use-after-free bugs.

If AR_CRCErr, AR_PHYErr, AR_DecryptCRCErr or AR_MichaelErr is indicated
in the rx status word, but AR_RxFrameOK is also set, the descriptor
contents are typically invalid. This can show up as a warning about
invalid MCS rates in a frame. Even with those checks in place, a
descriptor with invalid MCS rates can still sometimes make it through to
the driver (mostly on older hardware like AR91xx).
Detect such errors in the last descriptor of a frame and discard the
whole frame if present.

As the comment in ath_get_next_rx_buf indicates, if a descriptor with
the done bit set follows one with the done bit cleared, both descriptors
should be discarded, however the driver is not doing that yet.
To fix this, use the rs->rs_more flag as an indicator that the following
frame should be discarded. This also helps with the split buffer case:
if the first part of the frame is discarded, the following parts need to
be discarded as well, since they contain no valid header or usable data.

* mark AR9280 and AR9580 as DFS tested
* synchronize DFS regulatory domain to reg notifyer
* set required RX filter flags for radar detection
* process radar PHY errors at DFS detector
* notify DFS master on radar detection
DFS support requires CONFIG_ATH9K_DFS_CERTIFIED to be set.

Marco Fonseca reported a issue with his carl9170 device:
"I'm seeing a problem with the carl driver. If I change channels
repeatedly on the 2.4ghz band, monitoring (e.g. tcpdump) will
eventually halt. I've seen this on various versions of the carl
driver/firmware (both from 1.9.4 to 1.9.7)"
<http://marc.info/?l=linux-wireless&m=136381302428113>
The culprit was identified as "fast channel change feature" which
according to Adrian Chadd is: "... notoriously unreliable and
really only fully debugged on some very later chips."
<http://marc.info/?l=linux-wireless&m=136416984531380>

changing channels, but it should no longer become deaf.

The commit 'ath9k_hw: fix calibration issues on chainmask that don't
include chain 0' changed the hardware chainmask to the chip chainmask
for the duration of the calibration, but the revert to user
configuration in the reset path runs too early.
That causes some issues with limiting the number of antennas (including
spurious failure in hardware-generated packets).
Fix this by reverting the chainmask after the essential parts of the
calibration that need the workaround, and before NF calibration is run.

Either first 3 bytes of the first received tcp segment or last one
over MTU size file can be loss due to the byte alignment problem.
Although ATH6KL_HTC_ALIGN_BYTES was defined for 'extra bytes for htc header
alignment' in the patch "Fix buffer alignment for scatter-gather
I/O"(1df94a857), there exists the bytes loss issue which means that it will be
truncated 3 bytes in the transmitted file contents if a file which has over MTU
size is transferred through TCP/IP stack. It doesn't look like TCP/IP stack
bug of 3.5 or the latest version of kernel but the byte alignment issue. This
patch is to use the roundup() function for the byte alignment rather than the
predefined ATH6KL_HTC_ALIGN_BYTES.

Now all log messages are sent through the tracing infrastruture as well.
Tracing point doesn't follow debug_mask module parameter, instead it sends
all debug messages, so once you enable ath6kl_log_dbg tracing point you will
get a lot of messages. Needs to be discussed if this is sensible or not.
The overhead should be small enough and we anyway include debug level as
well so it's easy to filter in user space.
I wasn't really sure what to do with ath6kl_dbg_dump() and for now decided
that it also sends the buffer to user space. But most likely in the future
ath6kl_dbg_dump() should go away in favor of using proper tracing points, but

After SW reset, FW raises "fw done" IRQ, at this
moment mailbox control structures are initialized, driver caches it.
New status bit wil_status_reset_done introduced to track completion
