MSRs are weird. Some of them are normal control registers, such as EFER.
Some however are registers that really are model specific, not very
interesting to virtualization workloads, and not performance critical.
Others again are really just windows into package configuration.
Out of these MSRs, only the first category is necessary to implement in
kernel space. Rarely accessed MSRs, MSRs that should be fine tunes against
certain CPU models and MSRs that contain information on the package level
are much better suited for user space to process. However, over time we have
accumulated a lot of MSRs that are not the first category, but still handled
by in-kernel KVM code.
This patch adds a generic interface to handle WRMSR and RDMSR from user
space. With this, any future MSR that is part of the latter categories can
be handled in user space.
Furthermore, it allows us to replace the existing "ignore_msrs" logic with
something that applies per-VM rather than on the full system. That way you
can run productive VMs in parallel to experimental ones where you don't care
about proper MSR handling.

There are several issues in current background GC algorithm:
- valid blocks is one of key factors during cost overhead calculation,
so if segment has less valid block, however even its age is young or
it locates hot segment, CB algorithm will still choose the segment as
victim, it's not appropriate.
- GCed data/node will go to existing logs, no matter in-there datas'
update frequency is the same or not, it may mix hot and cold data
again.
- GC alloctor mainly use LFS type segment, it will cost free segment
more quickly.
This patch introduces a new algorithm named age threshold based
garbage collection to solve above issues, there are three steps
mainly:
1. select a source victim:
- set an age threshold, and select candidates beased threshold:
e.g.
0 means youngest, 100 means oldest, if we set age threshold to 80
then select dirty segments which has age in range of [80, 100] as
candiddates;
- set candidate_ratio threshold, and select candidates based the
ratio, so that we can shrink candidates to those oldest segments;
- select target segment with fewest valid blocks in order to
migrate blocks with minimum cost;
2. select a target victim:
- select candidates beased age threshold;
- set candidate_radius threshold, search candidates whose age is
around source victims, searching radius should less than the
radius threshold.
- select target segment with most valid blocks in order to avoid
migrating current target segment.
3. merge valid blocks from source victim into target victim with
SSR alloctor.
Test steps:
- create 160 dirty segments:
* half of them have 128 valid blocks per segment
* left of them have 384 valid blocks per segment
- run background GC
Benefit: GC count and block movement count both decrease obviously:
- Before:
- Valid: 86
- Dirty: 1

Rewrite the rxrpc client connection manager so that it can support multiple
connections for a given security key to a peer. The following changes are
made:
(1) For each open socket, the code currently maintains an rbtree with the
connections placed into it, keyed by communications parameters. This
is tricky to maintain as connections can be culled from the tree or
replaced within it. Connections can require replacement for a number
of reasons, e.g. their IDs span too great a range for the IDR data
type to represent efficiently, the call ID numbers on that conn would
overflow or the conn got aborted.
This is changed so that there's now a connection bundle object placed
in the tree, keyed on the same parameters. The bundle, however, does
not need to be replaced.
(2) An rxrpc_bundle object can now manage the available channels for a set
of parallel connections. The lock that manages this is moved there
from the rxrpc_connection struct (channel_lock).
(3) There'a a dummy bundle for all incoming connections to share so that
they have a channel_lock too. It might be better to give each
incoming connection its own bundle. This bundle is not needed to
manage which channels incoming calls are made on because that's the
solely at whim of the client.
(4) The restrictions on how many client connections are around are
removed. Instead, a previous patch limits the number of client calls
that can be allocated. Ordinarily, client connections are reaped
after 2 minutes on the idle queue, but when more than a certain number
of connections are in existence, the reaper starts reaping them after
2s of idleness instead to get the numbers back down.
It could also be made such that new call allocations are forced to
wait until the number of outstanding connections subsides.

Budget donations are inaccurate and could take multiple periods to converge.
To prevent triggering vrate adjustments while surplus transfers were
catching up, vrate adjustment was suppressed if donations were increasing,
which was indicated by non-zero nr_surpluses.

mechanism which will make it precise and immediate. Let's decouple the two

Currently, iocg->usages[] which are used to guide inuse adjustments are
calculated from vtime deltas. This, however, assumes that the hierarchical
inuse weight at the time of calculation held for the entire period, which
often isn't true and can lead to significant errors.
Now that we have absolute usage information collected, we can derive
iocg->usages[] from iocg->local_stat.usage_us so that inuse adjustment
decisions are made based on actual absolute usage. The calculated usage is
clamped between 1 and WEIGHT_ONE and WEIGHT_ONE is also used to signal
saturation regardless of the current hierarchical inuse weight.

Currently the tracepoint site will iterate a vector and issue indirect
calls to however many handlers are registered (ie. the vector is
long).
Using static_call() it is possible to optimize this for the common
case of only having a single handler registered. In this case the
static_call() can directly call this handler. Otherwise, if the vector
is longer than 1, call a function that iterates the whole vector like
the current code.

David Howells says:
====================
rxrpc, afs: Fix probing issues
Here are some fixes for rxrpc and afs to fix issues in the RTT measuring in
rxrpc and thence the Volume Location server probing in afs:
(1) Move the serial number of a received ACK into a local variable to
simplify the next patch.
(2) Fix the loss of RTT samples due to extra interposed ACKs causing
baseline information to be discarded too early. This is a particular
problem for afs when it sends a single very short call to probe a
server it hasn't talked to recently.
(3) Fix rxrpc_kernel_get_srtt() to indicate whether it actually has seen
any valid samples or not.
(4) Remove a field that's set/woken, but never read/waited on.
(5) Expose the RTT and other probe information through procfs to make
debugging of this stuff easier.
(6) Fix VL rotation in afs to only use summary information from VL probing
and not the probe running state (which gets clobbered when next a
probe is issued).
(7) Fix VL rotation to actually return the error aggregated from the probe
errors.

GP numbers start from -300 and gp_seq numbers start of -1200 (for a
shift of 2). These negative numbers are printed as unsigned long which
not only takes up more text space, but is rather confusing to the reader
as they have to constantly expend energy to truncate the number. Just
print the negative numbering directly.

This patch adds further attributes to the event. These attributes are
helpful to understand the context of the message and can be used
to filter the events.
There are three common items. Source context, target context and tclass.
There are also items from the outcome of operation performed.
An event is similar to:
<...>-1309 [002] .... 6346.691689: selinux_audited:
requested=0x4000000 denied=0x4000000 audited=0x4000000
result=-13
scontext=system_u:system_r:cupsd_t:s0-s0:c0.c1023
tcontext=system_u:object_r:bin_t:s0 tclass=file
With systems where many denials are occurring, it is useful to apply a
filter. The filtering is a set of logic that is inserted with
the filter file. Example:
echo "tclass==\"file\" " > events/avc/selinux_audited/filter
This adds that we only get tclass=file.
The trace can also have extra properties. Adding the user stack
can be done with
echo 1 > options/userstacktrace
Now the output will be
runcon-1365 [003] .... 6960.955530: selinux_audited:

The audit data currently captures which process and which target
is responsible for a denial. There is no data on where exactly in the
process that call occurred. Debugging can be made easier by being able to
reconstruct the unified kernel and userland stack traces [1]. Add a
tracepoint on the SELinux denials which can then be used by userland
(i.e. perf).
Although this patch could manually be added by each OS developer to
trouble shoot a denial, adding it to the kernel streamlines the
developers workflow.
It is possible to use perf for monitoring the event:
# perf record -e avc:selinux_audited -g -a
^C
# perf report -g

It is also possible to use the ftrace interface:
# echo 1 > /sys/kernel/debug/tracing/events/avc/selinux_audited/enable
# cat /sys/kernel/debug/tracing/trace
tracer: nop
entries-in-buffer/entries-written: 1/1 #P:8

dmesg-3624 [001] 13072.325358: selinux_denied: audited=800000 tclass=4

permissions described in security/selinux/av_permissions.h for the
corresponding class.

The Rx protocol has a mechanism to help generate RTT samples that works by
a client transmitting a REQUESTED-type ACK when it receives a DATA packet
that has the REQUEST_ACK flag set.
The peer, however, may interpose other ACKs before transmitting the
REQUESTED-ACK, as can be seen in the following trace excerpt:
rxrpc_tx_data: c=00000044 DATA d0b5ece8:00000001 00000001 q=00000001 fl=07
rxrpc_rx_ack: c=00000044 00000001 PNG r=00000000 f=00000002 p=00000000 n=0
rxrpc_rx_ack: c=00000044 00000002 REQ r=00000001 f=00000002 p=00000001 n=0
...
DATA packet 1 (q=xx) has REQUEST_ACK set (bit 1 of fl=xx). The incoming
ping (labelled PNG) hard-acks the request DATA packet (f=xx exceeds the
sequence number of the DATA packet), causing it to be discarded from the Tx
ring. The ACK that was requested (labelled REQ, r=xx references the serial
of the DATA packet) comes after the ping, but the sk_buff holding the
timestamp has gone and the RTT sample is lost.
This is particularly noticeable on RPC calls used to probe the service
offered by the peer. A lot of peers end up with an unknown RTT because we
only ever sent a single RPC. This confuses the server rotation algorithm.
Fix this by caching the information about the outgoing packet in RTT
calculations in the rxrpc_call struct rather than looking in the Tx ring.
A four-deep buffer is maintained and both REQUEST_ACK-flagged DATA and
PING-ACK transmissions are recorded in there. When the appropriate
response ACK is received, the buffer is checked for a match and, if found,
an RTT sample is recorded.
If a received ACK refers to a packet with a later serial number than an
entry in the cache, that entry is presumed lost and the entry is made
available to record a new transmission.
ACKs types other than REQUESTED-type and PING-type cause any matching
sample to be cancelled as they don't necessarily represent a useful
measurement.
If there's no space in the buffer on ping/data transmission, the sample
base is discarded.

In the scenario of writing sparse files, the per-inode prealloc list may
be very long, resulting in high overhead for ext4_mb_use_preallocated().
To circumvent this problem, we limit the maximum length of per-inode
prealloc list to 512 and allow users to modify it.
After patching, we observed that the sys ratio of cpu has dropped, and
the system throughput has increased significantly. We created a process
to write the sparse file, and the running time of the process on the
fixed kernel was significantly reduced, as follows:
Running time on unfixed kernel:
[root@TENCENT64 ~]# time taskset 0x01 ./sparse /data1/sparce.dat
real 0m2.051s
user 0m0.008s
sys 0m2.026s
Running time on fixed kernel:
[root@TENCENT64 ~]# time taskset 0x01 ./sparse /data1/sparce.dat
real 0m0.471s
user 0m0.004s
sys 0m0.395s

In this round, we've added two small interfaces, 1) GC_URGENT_LOW mode for
performance, and 2) F2FS_IOC_SEC_TRIM_FILE ioctl for security. The new GC
mode allows Android to run some lower priority GCs in background, while new
ioctl discards user information without race condition when the account is
removed. In addition, some patches were merged to address latency-related
issues. We've fixed some compression-related bug fixes as well as edge race
conditions.
Enhancement:
- add GC_URGENT_LOW mode in gc_urgent
- introduce F2FS_IOC_SEC_TRIM_FILE ioctl
- bypass racy readahead to improve read latencies
- shrink node_write lock coverage to avoid long latency
Bug fix:
- fix missing compression flag control, i_size, and mount option
- fix deadlock between quota writes and checkpoint
- remove inode eviction path in synchronous path to avoid deadlock
- fix to wait GCed compressed page writeback
- fix a kernel panic in f2fs_is_compressed_page
- check page dirty status before writeback
- wait page writeback before update in node page write flow
- fix a race condition between f2fs_write_end_io and f2fs_del_fsync_node_entry
We've added some minor sanity checks and refactored trivial code blocks for
better readability and debugging information.

security.
The new GC mode allows Android to run some lower priority GCs in
background, while new ioctl discards user information without race
condition when the account is removed.
In addition, some patches were merged to address latency-related
issues. We've fixed some compression-related bug fixes as well as edge
race conditions.
Enhancements:
- add GC_URGENT_LOW mode in gc_urgent
- introduce F2FS_IOC_SEC_TRIM_FILE ioctl
- bypass racy readahead to improve read latencies
- shrink node_write lock coverage to avoid long latency
Bug fixes:
- fix missing compression flag control, i_size, and mount option
- fix deadlock between quota writes and checkpoint
- remove inode eviction path in synchronous path to avoid deadlock
- fix to wait GCed compressed page writeback
- fix a kernel panic in f2fs_is_compressed_page
- check page dirty status before writeback
- wait page writeback before update in node page write flow
- fix a race condition between f2fs_write_end_io and f2fs_del_fsync_node_entry
We've added some minor sanity checks and refactored trivial code
blocks for better readability and debugging information"

For file systems where we can afford to keep the buddy bitmaps cached,
we can speed up initial writes to large file systems by starting to
load the block allocation bitmaps as soon as the file system is
mounted. This won't work well for _super_ large file systems, or
memory constrained systems, so we only enable this when it is
requested via a mount option.

- Add support for (optionally) using queued spinlocks & rwlocks.
- Support for a new faster system call ABI using the scv instruction on Power9
or later.
- Drop support for the PROT_SAO mmap/mprotect flag as it will be unsupported on
Power10 and future processors, leaving us with no way to implement the
functionality it requests. This risks breaking userspace, though we believe
it is unused in practice.
- A bug fix for, and then the removal of, our custom stack expansion checking.
We now allow stack expansion up to the rlimit, like other architectures.
- Remove the remnants of our (previously disabled) topology update code, which
tried to react to NUMA layout changes on virtualised systems, but was prone
to crashes and other problems.
- Add PMU support for Power10 CPUs.
- A change to our signal trampoline so that we don't unbalance the link stack
(branch return predictor) in the signal delivery path.
- Lots of other cleanups, refactorings, smaller features and so on as usual.

Commit c726200dd1 ("KVM: arm/arm64: Allow reporting non-ISV data aborts
to userspace") introduced a mechanism to deflect MMIO traffic the kernel
can not handle to user space. For that, it introduced a new exit reason.
However, it did not update the trace point array that gives human readable
names to these exit reasons inside the trace log.
Let's fix that up after the fact, so that trace logs are pretty even when
we get user space MMIO traps on ARM.

ISA v3.1 does not support the SAO storage control attribute required to
implement PROT_SAO. PROT_SAO was used by specialised system software
(Lx86) that has been discontinued for about 7 years, and is not thought
to be used elsewhere, so removal should not cause problems.
We rather remove it than keep support for older processors, because
live migrating guest partitions to newer processors may not be possible
if SAO is in use (or worse allowed with silent races).
- PROT_SAO stays in the uapi header so code using it would still build.
- arch_validate_prot() is removed, the generic version rejects PROT_SAO
so applications would get a failure at mmap() time.

This patch has been tested on Marvell ESPRESSObin using a modified
version of xdp_redirect_cpu sample in order to attach a XDP program

In particular the following scenario has been tested:

Introduce the capability to attach an eBPF program to cpumap entries.
The idea behind this feature is to add the possibility to define on

This patch has been tested on Marvell ESPRESSObin using xdp_redirect_cpu

regressions. Results show there are no observable differences in

The main addition for this time is the support for platform notifications.
SCMI protocol specification allows the platform to signal events to the
interested agents via notification messages. We are adding support for
the dispatch and delivery of such notifications to the interested users
inside the kernel.
Other than that, there are minor changes like checking and using the
fast_switch capability quering the firmware instead of doing it
unconditionally(using polling mode transfer), cosmetic trace update,
use of HAVE_ARM_SMCCC_DISCOVERY instead of ARM_PSCI_FW and a fix in
scmi clock registration logic for all the clocks with discrete rates.

ARM SCMI/SCPI updates for v5.9

First, refactor: Dereference the svc_rdma_send_ctxt inside
svc_rdma_send() instead of at every call site.
Then, it can be passed into trace_svcrdma_post_send() to get the
proper completion ID.

The goal is to replace CQE kernel memory addresses in completion-
related tracepoints.
Each completion ID matches an incoming Send or Receive completion
to a Completion Queue and to a previous ib_post_*(). The ID can
then be displayed in an error message or recorded in a trace
record.

Add similar tracepoints to those that were recently added on the
client side to track failures in the integ and priv unwrap paths.
And, let's collect the seqno-specific tracepoints together with a
common naming convention.
Regarding the gss_check_seq_num() changes: everywhere else treats
the GSS sequence number as an unsigned 32-bit integer. As far back
as 2.6.12, I couldn't find a compelling reason to do things
differently here. As a defensive change it's better to eliminate
needless implicit sign conversions.

Add a bare tracepoint trace_sched_update_nr_running_tp which tracks
->nr_running CPU's rq. This is used to accurately trace this data and
provide a visualization of scheduler imbalances in, for example, the
form of a heat map. The tracepoint is accessed by loading an external
kernel module. An example module (forked from Qais' module and including
the pelt related tracepoints) can be found at:
https://github.com/auldp/tracepoints-helpers.git
A script to turn the trace-cmd report output into a heatmap plot can be
found at:
https://github.com/jirvoz/plot-nr-running
The tracepoints are added to add_nr_running() and sub_nr_running() which
are in kernel/sched/sched.h. In order to avoid CREATE_TRACE_POINTS in
the header a wrapper call is used and the trace/events/sched.h include
is moved before sched.h in kernel/sched/core.

After the previous cleanup, DEFINE_EVENT_PRINT's definition has no
relationship with DEFINE_EVENT. So After we re-define DEFINE_EVENT, it
is not necessary to define DEFINE_EVENT_PRINT to be empty again.

Currently the trace event 'scmi_xfer_end' reports the status of the
transfer using the unsigned status field read from the firmware which
may not be easy to interpret. It may also miss to emit any timeouts
that happen in the driver resulting in emitting garbage in the status
field in those scenarios.
Let us use signed integer so that error values are emitted out after
they are mapped from firmware error formats to standard linux error
codes. While at this, also include any timeouts in the driver itself.

The following changes are introduced:
1. Rename rcu_invoke_kfree_callback() to rcu_invoke_kvfree_callback(),
as well as the associated trace events, so the rcu_kfree_callback(),
becomes rcu_kvfree_callback(). The reason is to be aligned with kvfree()
notation.
2. Rename __is_kfree_rcu_offset to __is_kvfree_rcu_offset. All RCU
paths use kvfree() now instead of kfree(), thus rename it.
3. Rename kfree_call_rcu() to the kvfree_call_rcu(). The reason is,
it is capable of freeing vmalloc() memory now. Do the same with
__kfree_rcu() macro, it becomes __kvfree_rcu(), the goal is the
same.

The different strings used for describing the polarity are
Start, End and StillNonIdle. Since StillIdle is not used in any trace
point for rcu_dyntick, it can be removed and StillNonIdle can be added
in the description. Because StillNonIdle is used in a few tracepoints for
rcu_dyntick.
Similarly, USER, IDLE and IRQ are used for describing context in
the rcu_dyntick tracepoints. Since, "KERNEL" is not used for any
of the rcu_dyntick tracepoints, remove it from the description.

The only use of I_DIRTY_TIME_EXPIRE is to detect in
__writeback_single_inode() that inode got there because flush worker
decided it's time to writeback the dirty inode time stamps (either
because we are syncing or because of age). However we can detect this
directly in __writeback_single_inode() and there's no need for the
strange propagation with I_DIRTY_TIME_EXPIRE flag.

When we are processing writeback for sync(2), move_expired_inodes()
didn't set any inode expiry value (older_than_this). This can result in
writeback never completing if there's steady stream of inodes added to
b_dirty_time list as writeback rechecks dirty lists after each writeback
round whether there's more work to be done. Fix the problem by using
sync(2) start time is inode expiry value when processing b_dirty_time
list similarly as for ordinarily dirtied inodes. This requires some
refactoring of older_than_this handling which simplifies the code
noticeably as a bonus.

Avoid unnecessary cache sloshing by placing the buffer size
estimation update logic behind an atomic bit flag.
The size of GSS information included in each wrapped Reply does
not change during the lifetime of a GSS context. Therefore, the
au_rslack and au_ralign fields need to be updated only once after
establishing a fresh GSS credential.
Thus a slack size update must occur after a cred is created,
duplicated, renewed, or expires. I'm not sure I have this exactly
right. A trace point is introduced to track updates to these
variables to enable troubleshooting the problem if I missed a spot.

Merge tag 'afs-next-20200604' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/dhowells/linux-fs
Pull AFS updates from David Howells:
"There's some core VFS changes which affect a couple of filesystems:
- Make the inode hash table RCU safe and providing some RCU-safe
accessor functions. The search can then be done without taking the
inode_hash_lock. Care must be taken because the object may be being
deleted and no wait is made.
- Allow iunique() to avoid taking the inode_hash_lock.
- Allow AFS's callback processing to avoid taking the inode_hash_lock
when using the inode table to find an inode to notify.
- Improve Ext4's time updating. Konstantin Khlebnikov said "For now,
I've plugged this issue with try-lock in ext4 lazy time update.
This solution is much better."
Then there's a set of changes to make a number of improvements to the
AFS driver:
- Improve callback (ie. third party change notification) processing
by:
(a) Relying more on the fact we're doing this under RCU and by
using fewer locks. This makes use of the RCU-based inode
searching outlined above.
(b) Moving to keeping volumes in a tree indexed by volume ID
rather than a flat list.
(c) Making the server and volume records logically part of the
cell. This means that a server record now points directly at
the cell and the tree of volumes is there. This removes an N:M
mapping table, simplifying things.
- Improve keeping NAT or firewall channels open for the server
callbacks to reach the client by actively polling the fileserver on
a timed basis, instead of only doing it when we have an operation
to process.
- Improving detection of delayed or lost callbacks by including the
parent directory in the list of file IDs to be queried when doing a
bulk status fetch from lookup. We can then check to see if our copy
of the directory has changed under us without us getting notified.
- Determine aliasing of cells (such as a cell that is pointed to be a
DNS alias). This allows us to avoid having ambiguity due to
apparently different cells using the same volume and file servers.
- Improve the fileserver rotation to do more probing when it detects
that all of the addresses to a server are listed as non-responsive.
It's possible that an address that previously stopped responding
has become responsive again.
Beyond that, lay some foundations for making some calls asynchronous:
- Turn the fileserver cursor struct into a general operation struct
and hang the parameters off of that rather than keeping them in
local variables and hang results off of that rather than the call
struct.
- Implement some general operation handling code and simplify the
callers of operations that affect a volume or a volume component
(such as a file). Most of the operation is now done by core code.
- Operations are supplied with a table of operations to issue
different variants of RPCs and to manage the completion, where all
the required data is held in the operation object, thereby allowing
these to be called from a workqueue.
- Put the standard "if (begin), while(select), call op, end" sequence
into a canned function that just emulates the current behaviour for
now.
There are also some fixes interspersed:
- Don't let the EACCES from ICMP6 mapping reach the user as such,
since it's confusing as to whether it's a filesystem error. Convert
it to EHOSTUNREACH.
- Don't use the epoch value acquired through probing a server. If we
have two servers with the same UUID but in different cells, it's
hard to draw conclusions from them having different epoch values.
- Don't interpret the argument to the CB.ProbeUuid RPC as a
fileserver UUID and look up a fileserver from it.
- Deal with servers in different cells having the same UUIDs. In the
event that a CB.InitCallBackState3 RPC is received, we have to
break the callback promises for every server record matching that
UUID.
- Don't let afs_statfs return values that go below 0.
- Don't use running fileserver probe state to make server selection
and address selection decisions on. Only make decisions on final
state as the running state is cleared at the start of probing"

Turn the afs_operation struct into the main way that most fileserver
operations are managed. Various things are added to the struct, including
the following:
(1) All the parameters and results of the relevant operations are moved
into it, removing corresponding fields from the afs_call struct.
afs_call gets a pointer to the op.
(2) The target volume is made the main focus of the operation, rather than
the target vnode(s), and a bunch of op->vnode->volume are made
op->volume instead.
(3) Two vnode records are defined (op->file[]) for the vnode(s) involved
in most operations. The vnode record (struct afs_vnode_param)
contains:
- The vnode pointer.
- The fid of the vnode to be included in the parameters or that was
returned in the reply (eg. FS.MakeDir).
- The status and callback information that may be returned in the
reply about the vnode.
- Callback break and data version tracking for detecting
simultaneous third-parth changes.
(4) Pointers to dentries to be updated with new inodes.
(5) An operations table pointer. The table includes pointers to functions
for issuing AFS and YFS-variant RPCs, handling the success and abort
of an operation and handling post-I/O-lock local editing of a
directory.
To make this work, the following function restructuring is made:
(A) The rotation loop that issues calls to fileservers that can be found
in each function that wants to issue an RPC (such as afs_mkdir()) is
extracted out into common code, in a new file called fs_operation.c.
(B) The rotation loops, such as the one in afs_mkdir(), are replaced with
a much smaller piece of code that allocates an operation, sets the
parameters and then calls out to the common code to do the actual
work.
(C) The code for handling the success and failure of an operation are
moved into operation functions (as (5) above) and these are called
from the core code at appropriate times.
(D) The pseudo inode getting stuff used by the dynamic root code is moved
over into dynroot.c.
(E) struct afs_iget_data is absorbed into the operation struct and
afs_iget() expects to be given an op pointer and a vnode record.
(F) Point (E) doesn't work for the root dir of a volume, but we know the
FID in advance (it's always vnode 1, unique 1), so a separate inode
getter, afs_root_iget(), is provided to special-case that.
(G) The inode status init/update functions now also take an op and a vnode
record.
(H) The RPC marshalling functions now, for the most part, just take an
afs_operation struct as their only argument. All the data they need
is held there. The result delivery functions write their answers
there as well.
(I) The call is attached to the operation and then the operation core does
the waiting.
And then the new operation code is, for the moment, made to just initialise
the operation, get the appropriate vnode I/O locks and do the same rotation
loop as before.
This lays the foundation for the following changes in the future:
(*) Overhauling the rotation (again).
(*) Support for asynchronous I/O, where the fileserver rotation must be
done asynchronously also.

Currently while doing block allocation grp->bb_free may be getting
modified if discard is happening in parallel.
For e.g. consider a case where there are lot of threads who have
preallocated lot of blocks and there is a thread which is trying
to discard all of this group's PA. Now it could happen that
we see all of those group's bb_free is zero and fail the allocation
while there is sufficient space if we free up all the PA.
So this patch adds another flag "EXT4_MB_STRICT_CHECK" which will be set
if we are unable to allocate any blocks in the first try (since we may
not have considered blocks about to be discarded from PA lists).
So during retry attempt to allocate blocks we will use ext4_lock_group()
for checking if the group is good or not.

As new ext4_map_blocks() flags have been added, not all have gotten flag
bit to string translations to make tracepoint output more readable.
Fix that, and go one step further by adding a translation for the
EXT4_EX_NOCACHE flag as well. The EXT4_EX_FORCE_CACHE flag can never
be set in a tracepoint in the current code, so there's no need to
bother with a translation for it right now.

A higher value may increase memory footprint for some workloads.

Pull btrfs updates from David Sterba:
"Highlights:
- speedup dead root detection during orphan cleanup, eg. when there
are many deleted subvolumes waiting to be cleaned, the trees are
now looked up in radix tree instead of a O(N^2) search
- snapshot creation with inherited qgroup will mark the qgroup
inconsistent, requires a rescan
- send will emit file capabilities after chown, this produces a
stream that does not need postprocessing to set the capabilities
again
- direct io ported to iomap infrastructure, cleaned up and simplified
code, notably removing last use of struct buffer_head in btrfs code
Core changes:
- factor out backreference iteration, to be used by ordinary
backreferences and relocation code
- improved global block reserve utilization
* better logic to serialize requests
* increased maximum available for unlink
* improved handling on large pages (64K)
- direct io cleanups and fixes
* simplify layering, where cloned bios were unnecessarily created
for some cases
* error handling fixes (submit, endio)
* remove repair worker thread, used to avoid deadlocks during
repair
- refactored block group reading code, preparatory work for new type
of block group storage that should improve mount time on large
filesystems
Cleanups:
- cleaned up (and slightly sped up) set/get helpers for metadata data
structure members
- root bit REF_COWS got renamed to SHAREABLE to reflect the that the
blocks of the tree get shared either among subvolumes or with the
relocation trees
Fixes:
- when subvolume deletion fails due to ENOSPC, the filesystem is not
turned read-only
- device scan deals with devices from other filesystems that changed
ownership due to overwrite (mkfs)
- fix a race between scrub and block group removal/allocation
- fix long standing bug of a runaway balance operation, printing the
same line to the syslog, caused by a stale status bit on a reloc
tree that prevented progress
- fix corrupt log due to concurrent fsync of inodes with shared
extents
- fix space underflow for NODATACOW and buffered writes when it for
some reason needs to fallback to COW mode"

After an NFS page has been written it is considered "unstable" until a
COMMIT request succeeds. If the COMMIT fails, the page will be
re-written.
These "unstable" pages are currently accounted as "reclaimable", either
in WB_RECLAIMABLE, or in NR_UNSTABLE_NFS which is included in a
'reclaimable' count. This might have made sense when sending the COMMIT
required a separate action by the VFS/MM (e.g. releasepage() used to
send a COMMIT). However now that all writes generated by ->writepages()
will automatically be followed by a COMMIT (since commit 919e3bd9a8
("NFS: Ensure we commit after writeback is complete")) it makes more
sense to treat them as writeback pages.
So this patch removes NR_UNSTABLE_NFS and accounts unstable pages in
NR_WRITEBACK and WB_WRITEBACK.
A particular effect of this change is that when
wb_check_background_flush() calls wb_over_bg_threshold(), the latter
will report 'true' a lot less often as the 'unstable' pages are no
longer considered 'dirty' (as there is nothing that writeback can do
about them anyway).
Currently wb_check_background_flush() will trigger writeback to NFS even
when there are relatively few dirty pages (if there are lots of unstable
pages), this can result in small writes going to the server (10s of
Kilobytes rather than a Megabyte) which hurts throughput. With this
patch, there are fewer writes which are each larger on average.
Where the NR_UNSTABLE_NFS count was included in statistics
virtual-files, the entry is retained, but the value is hard-coded as
zero. static trace points and warning printks which mentioned this
counter no longer report it.

When an AFS client accesses a file, it receives a limited-duration callback
promise that the server will notify it if another client changes a file.
This callback duration can be a few hours in length.
If a client mounts a volume and then an application prevents it from being
unmounted, say by chdir'ing into it, but then does nothing for some time,
the rxrpc_peer record will expire and rxrpc-level keepalive will cease.
If there is NAT or a firewall between the client and the server, the route
back for the server may close after a comparatively short duration, meaning
that attempts by the server to notify the client may then bounce.
The client, however, may (so far as it knows) still have a valid unexpired
promise and will then rely on its cached data and will not see changes made
on the server by a third party until it incidentally rechecks the status or
the promise needs renewal.
To deal with this, the client needs to regularly probe the server. This
has two effects: firstly, it keeps a route open back for the server, and
secondly, it causes the server to disgorge any notifications that got
queued up because they couldn't be sent.
Fix this by adding a mechanism to emit regular probes.
Two levels of probing are made available: Under normal circumstances the
'slow' queue will be used for a fileserver - this just probes the preferred
address once every 5 mins or so; however, if server fails to respond to any
probes, the server will shift to the 'fast' queue from which all its
interfaces will be probed every 30s. When it finally responds, the record
will switch back to the slow queue.
Further notes:
(1) Probing is now no longer driven from the fileserver rotation
algorithm.
(2) Probes are dispatched to all interfaces on a fileserver when that an
afs_server object is set up to record it.
(3) The afs_server object is removed from the probe queues when we start
to probe it. afs_is_probing_server() returns true if it's not listed
- ie. it's undergoing probing.
(4) The afs_server object is added back on to the probe queue when the
final outstanding probe completes, but the probed_at time is set when
we're about to launch a probe so that it's not dependent on the probe
duration.
(5) The timer and the work item added for this must be handed a count on
net->servers_outstanding, which they hand on or release. This makes
sure that network namespace cleanup waits for them.

Split the usage count on the afs_server struct to have an active count that
registers who's actually using it separately from the reference count on
the object.
This allows a future patch to dispatch polling probes without advancing the
"unuse" time into the future each time we emit a probe, which would
otherwise prevent unused server records from expiring.
Included in this:
(1) The latter part of afs_destroy_server() in which the RCU destruction
of afs_server objects is invoked and the outstanding server count is
decremented is split out into __afs_put_server().
(2) afs_put_server() now calls __afs_put_server() rather then setting the
management timer.
(3) The calls begun by afs_fs_give_up_all_callbacks() and
afs_fs_get_capabilities() can now take a ref on the server record, so
afs_destroy_server() can just drop its ref and needn't wait for the
completion of these calls. They'll put the ref when they're done.
(4) Because of (3), afs_fs_probe_done() no longer needs to wake up
afs_destroy_server() with server->probe_outstanding.
(5) afs_gc_servers can be simplified. It only needs to check if
server->active is 0 rather than playing games with the refcount.
(6) afs_manage_servers() can propose a server for gc if usage == 0 rather
than if ref == 1. The gc is effected by (5).

When we have extents shared amongst different inodes in the same subvolume,
if we fsync them in parallel we can end up with checksum items in the log
tree that represent ranges which overlap.
For example, consider we have inodes A and B, both sharing an extent that
covers the logical range from X to X + 64KiB:
1) Task A starts an fsync on inode A;
2) Task B starts an fsync on inode B;
3) Task A calls btrfs_csum_file_blocks(), and the first search in the
log tree, through btrfs_lookup_csum(), returns -EFBIG because it
finds an existing checksum item that covers the range from X - 64KiB
to X;
4) Task A checks that the checksum item has not reached the maximum
possible size (MAX_CSUM_ITEMS) and then releases the search path
before it does another path search for insertion (through a direct
call to btrfs_search_slot());
5) As soon as task A releases the path and before it does the search
for insertion, task B calls btrfs_csum_file_blocks() and gets -EFBIG
too, because there is an existing checksum item that has an end
offset that matches the start offset (X) of the checksum range we want
to log;
6) Task B releases the path;
7) Task A does the path search for insertion (through btrfs_search_slot())
and then verifies that the checksum item that ends at offset X still
exists and extends its size to insert the checksums for the range from
X to X + 64KiB;
8) Task A releases the path and returns from btrfs_csum_file_blocks(),
having inserted the checksums into an existing checksum item that got
its size extended. At this point we have one checksum item in the log
tree that covers the logical range from X - 64KiB to X + 64KiB;
9) Task B now does a search for insertion using btrfs_search_slot() too,
but it finds that the previous checksum item no longer ends at the
offset X, it now ends at an of offset X + 64KiB, so it leaves that item
untouched.
Then it releases the path and calls btrfs_insert_empty_item()
that inserts a checksum item with a key offset corresponding to X and
a size for inserting a single checksum (4 bytes in case of crc32c).
Subsequent iterations end up extending this new checksum item so that
it contains the checksums for the range from X to X + 64KiB.
So after task B returns from btrfs_csum_file_blocks() we end up with
two checksum items in the log tree that have overlapping ranges, one
for the range from X - 64KiB to X + 64KiB, and another for the range
from X to X + 64KiB.
Having checksum items that represent ranges which overlap, regardless of
being in the log tree or in the chekcsums tree, can lead to problems where
checksums for a file range end up not being found. This type of problem
has happened a few times in the past and the following commits fixed them
and explain in detail why having checksum items with overlapping ranges is
problematic:
27b9a8122f "Btrfs: fix csum tree corruption, duplicate and outdated checksums"
b84b8390d6 "Btrfs: fix file read corruption after extent cloning and fsync"
40e046acbd "Btrfs: fix missing data checksums after replaying a log tree"
Since this specific instance of the problem can only happen when logging
inodes, because it is the only case where concurrent attempts to insert
checksums for the same range can happen, fix the issue by using an extent
io tree as a range lock to serialize checksum insertion during inode
logging.
This issue could often be reproduced by the test case generic/457 from
fstests. When it happens it produces the following trace:

rxrpc: Fix retransmission timeout and ACK discard
Here are a couple of fixes and an extra tracepoint for AF_RXRPC:
(1) Calculate the RTO pretty much as TCP does, rather than making
something up, including an initial 4s timeout (which causes return
probes from the fileserver to fail if a packet goes missing), and add
backoff.
(2) Fix the discarding of out-of-order received ACKs. We mustn't let the
hard-ACK point regress, nor do we want to do unnecessary
retransmission because the soft-ACK list regresses. This is not
trivial, however, due to some loose wording in various old protocol
specs, the ACK field that should be used for this sometimes has the
wrong information in it.
(3) Add a tracepoint to log a discarded ACK.

In order to simplify AF_XDP zero-copy enablement for NIC driver
developers, a new AF_XDP buffer allocation API is added. The
implementation is based on a single core (single producer/consumer)
buffer pool for the AF_XDP UMEM.
A buffer is allocated using the xsk_buff_alloc() function, and
returned using xsk_buff_free(). If a buffer is disassociated with the
pool, e.g. when a buffer is passed to an AF_XDP socket, a buffer is
said to be released. Currently, the release function is only used by
the AF_XDP internals and not visible to the driver.
Drivers using this API should register the XDP memory model with the
new MEM_TYPE_XSK_BUFF_POOL type.
The API is defined in net/xdp_sock_drv.h.
The buffer type is struct xdp_buff, and follows the lifetime of
regular xdp_buffs, i.e. the lifetime of an xdp_buff is restricted to
a NAPI context. In other words, the API is not replacing xdp_frames.
In addition to introducing the API and implementations, the AF_XDP
core is migrated to use the new APIs.

- Rename these so they are easy to enable and search for as a set
- Move the tracepoints to get a more accurate sense of control flow
- Tracepoints should not fire on xprt shutdown
- Display memory address in case data structure had been corrupted
- Abandon dprintk in these paths
I haven't ever gotten one of these tracepoints to trigger. I wonder
if we should simply remove them.
