Christoph Hellwig 673e8e597c xfs: remove xfs_itruncate_data
This wrapper isn't overly useful, not to say rather confusing.

Around the call to xfs_itruncate_extents it does:

 - add tracing
 - add a few asserts in debug builds
 - conditionally update the inode size in two places
 - log the inode

Both the tracing and the inode logging can be moved to xfs_itruncate_extents
as they are useful for the attribute fork as well - in fact the attr code
already does an equivalent xfs_trans_log_inode call just after calling
xfs_itruncate_extents. The conditional size updates are a mess, and there
was no reason to do them in two places anyway, as the first one was
conditional on the inode having extents - but without extents we
xfs_itruncate_extents would be a no-op and the placement wouldn't matter
anyway. Instead move the size assignments and the asserts that make sense
to the callers that want it.

As a side effect of this clean up xfs_setattr_size by introducing variables
for the old and new inode size, and moving the size updates into a common
place.

Christoph Hellwig be4f1ac828 xfs: log all dirty inodes in xfs_fs_sync_fs
Since Linux 2.6.36 the writeback code has introduces various measures for
live lock prevention during sync(). Unfortunately some of these are
actively harmful for the XFS model, where the inode gets marked dirty for
metadata from the data I/O handler.

The older_than_this checks that are now more strictly enforced since

    writeback: avoid livelocking WB_SYNC_ALL writeback

by only calling into __writeback_inodes_sb and thus only sampling the
current cut off time once. But on a slow enough devices the previous
asynchronous sync pass might not have fully completed yet, and thus XFS
might mark metadata dirty only after that sampling of the cut off time for
the blocking pass already happened. I have not myself reproduced this
myself on a real system, but by introducing artificial delay into the
XFS I/O completion workqueues it can be reproduced easily.

Fix this by iterating over all XFS inodes in ->sync_fs and log all that
are dirty. This might log inode that only got redirtied after the
previous pass, but given how cheap delayed logging of inodes is it
isn't a major concern for performance.

Christoph Hellwig 0b8fd3033c xfs: log the inode in ->write_inode calls for kupdate
If the writeback code writes back an inode because it has expired we currently
use the non-blockin ->write_inode path. This means any inode that is pinned
is skipped. With delayed logging and a workload that has very little log
traffic otherwise it is very likely that an inode that gets constantly
written to is always pinned, and thus we keep refusing to write it. The VM
writeback code at that point redirties it and doesn't try to write it again
for another 30 seconds. This means under certain scenarious time based
metadata writeback never happens.

Fix this by calling into xfs_log_inode for kupdate in addition to data
integrity syncs, and thus transfer the inode to the log ASAP.

Christoph Hellwig 40d344ec5e xfs: mark the xfssyncd workqueue as non-reentrant
On a system with lots of memory pressure that is stuck on synchronous inode
reclaim the workqueue code will run one instance of the inode reclaim work
item on every CPU. which is not what we want. Make sure to mark the
xfssyncd workqueue as non-reentrant to make sure there only is one instace
of each running globally. Also stop using special paramater for the
workqueue; now that we guarantee each fs has only running one of each works
at a time there is no need to artificially lower max_active and compensate
for that by setting the WQ_CPU_INTENSIVE flag.

log_regrant_write_log_space as well, and factor the code into readable
helpers. For each of the queues we have add two helpers:

 - one to try to wake up all waiting threads. This helper will also be
usable by xfs_log_move_tail once we remove the current opportunistic
   wakeups in it.
 - one to sleep on t_wait until enough log space is available, loosely
   modelled after Linux waitqueues.

And use them to reimplement the guts of log_regrant_write_log_space and
log_regrant_write_log_space. These two function now use one and the same
algorithm for waiting on log space instead of subtly different ones before,
with an option to completely unify them in the near future.

Also move the filesystem shutdown handling to the common caller given
that we had to touch it anyway.

Christoph Hellwig c29f7d457a xfs: fix nfs export of 64-bit inodes numbers on 32-bit kernels
The i_ino field in the VFS inode is of type unsigned long and thus can't
hold the full 64-bit inode number on 32-bit kernels. We have the full
inode number in the XFS inode, so use that one for nfs exports. Note
that I've also switched the 32-bit file handles types to it, just to make
the code more consistent and copy & paste errors less likely to happen.

Dave Chinner a99ebf43f4 xfs: fix allocation length overflow in xfs_bmapi_write()
When testing the new xfstests --large-fs option that does very large
file preallocations, this assert was tripped deep in
xfs_alloc_vextent():

XFS: Assertion failed: args->minlen <= args->maxlen, file: fs/xfs/xfs_alloc.c, line: 2239

The allocation was trying to allocate a zero length extent because
the lower 32 bits of the allocation length was zero. The remaining
length of the allocation to be done was an exact multiple of 2^32 -
the first case I saw was at 496TB remaining to be allocated.

This turns out to be an overflow when converting the allocation
length (a 64 bit quantity) into the extent length to allocate (a 32
bit quantity), and it requires the length to be allocated an exact
multiple of 2^32 blocks to trip the assert.

Fix it by limiting the extent lenth to allocate to MAXEXTLEN.

Christoph Hellwig 4c393a6059 xfs: fix attr2 vs large data fork assert
With Dmitry fsstress updates I've seen very reproducible crashes in
xfs_attr_shortform_remove because xfs_attr_shortform_bytesfit claims that
the attributes would not fit inline into the inode after removing an
attribute. It turns out that we were operating on an inode with lots
of delalloc extents, and thus an if_bytes values for the data fork that
is larger than biggest possible on-disk storage for it which utterly
confuses the code near the end of xfs_attr_shortform_bytesfit.

Fix this by always allowing the current attribute fork, like we already
do for the attr1 format, given that delalloc conversion will take care
for moving either the data or attribute area out of line if it doesn't
fit at that point - or making the point moot by merging extents at this
point.

Also document the function better, and clean up some loose bits.

Mitsuo Hayasaka db3e74b582 xfs: use doalloc flag in xfs_qm_dqattach_one()
The doalloc arg in xfs_qm_dqattach_one() is a flag that indicates
whether a new area to handle quota information will be allocated
if needed. Originally, it was passed to xfs_qm_dqget(), but has
been removed by the following commit (probably by mistake):

xfs: remove the unused XFS_QMOPT_DQLOCK flag

As the result, xfs_qm_dqget() called from xfs_qm_dqattach_one()
never allocates the new area even if it is needed.

This patch gives the doalloc arg to xfs_qm_dqget() in

Carlos Maiolino b52a360b2a xfs: Fix possible memory corruption in xfs_readlink
Fixes a possible memory corruption when the link is larger than
MAXPATHLEN and XFS_DEBUG is not enabled. This also remove the
S_ISLNK assert, since the inode mode is checked previously in
xfs_readlink_by_handle() and via VFS.

Updated to address concerns raised by Ben Hutchings about the loose
attention paid to 32- vs 64-bit values, and the lack of handling a
potentially negative pathlen value:
 - Changed type of "pathlen" to be xfs_fsize_t, to match that of
   ip->i_d.di_size
 - Added checking for a negative pathlen to the too-long pathlen
test, and generalized the message that gets reported in that case
   to reflect the change
As a result, if a negative pathlen were encountered, this function
would return EFSCORRUPTED (and would fail an assertion for a debug
build)--just as would a too-long pathlen.

Christoph Hellwig 87c7bec7fc xfs: fix buffer flushing during unmount
The code to flush buffers in the umount code is a bit iffy: we first
flush all delwri buffers out, but then might be able to queue up a

would get flushed out when doing the synchronous superblock write in
xfs_unmountfs_writesb, but we skip that one if the filesystem has
been shut down.

Fix this by moving the delwri list flushing until just before unmounting
the log, and while we're at it also remove the superflous delwri list
and buffer lru flusing for the rt and log device that can never have
cached or delwri buffers.

Christoph Hellwig 1da2f2dbf2 xfs: optimize fsync on directories
Directories are only updated transactionally, which means fsync only
needs to flush the log the inode is currently dirty, but not bother
with checking for dirty data, non-transactional updates, and most
importanly doesn't have to flush disk caches except as part of a
transaction commit.

While the first two optimizations can't easily be measured, the
latter actually makes a difference when doing lots of fsync that do
not actually have to commit the inode, e.g. because an earlier fsync
already pushed the log far enough.

The new xfs_dir_fsync is identical to xfs_nfs_commit_metadata except
for the prototype, but I'm not sure creating a common helper for the
two is worth it given how simple the functions are.

Dave Chinner 670ce93fef xfs: reduce the number of log forces from tail pushing
The AIL push code will issue a log force on ever single push loop
that it exits and has encountered pinned items. It doesn't rescan
these pinned items until it revisits the AIL from the start. Hence
we only need to force the log once per walk from the start of the
AIL to the target LSN.

This results in numbers like this:

	xs_push_ail_flush..... 1456
	xs_log_force......... 1485

For an 8-way 50M inode create workload - almost all the log forces
are coming from the AIL pushing code.

Reduce the number of log forces by only forcing the log if the
previous walk found pinned buffers. This reduces the numbers to:

	xs_push_ail_flush..... 665
	xs_log_force......... 682

For the same test.

Dave Chinner 3815832a2a xfs: Don't allocate new buffers on every call to _xfs_buf_find
Stats show that for an 8-way unlink @ ~80,000 unlinks/s we are doing
~1 million cache hit lookups to ~3000 buffer creates. That's almost
3 orders of magnitude more cahce hits than misses, so optimising for
cache hits is quite important. In the cache hit case, we do not need
to allocate a new buffer in case of a cache miss, so we are
effectively hitting the allocator for no good reason for vast the
majority of calls to _xfs_buf_find. 8-way create workloads are
showing similar cache hit/miss ratios.

The result is profiles that look like this:

     samples pcnt function DSO
     _______ _____ _______________________________ _________________

     1036.00 10.0% _xfs_buf_find [kernel.kallsyms]
      582.00 5.6% kmem_cache_alloc [kernel.kallsyms]
      519.00 5.0% __memcpy [kernel.kallsyms]
      468.00 4.5% __ticket_spin_lock [kernel.kallsyms]
      388.00 3.7% kmem_cache_free [kernel.kallsyms]
      331.00 3.2% xfs_log_commit_cil [kernel.kallsyms]

Further, there is a fair bit of work involved in initialising a new
buffer once a cache miss has occurred and we currently do that under
the rbtree spinlock. That increases spinlock hold time on what are
heavily used trees.

To fix this, remove the initialisation of the buffer from
_xfs_buf_find() and only allocate the new buffer once we've had a
cache miss. Initialise the buffer immediately after allocating it in
xfs_buf_get, too, so that is it ready for insert if we get another
cache miss after allocation. This minimises lock hold time and
avoids unnecessary allocator churn. The resulting profiles look
like:

     samples pcnt function DSO
     _______ _____ ___________________________ _________________

     8111.00 9.1% _xfs_buf_find [kernel.kallsyms]

     3401.00 3.8% kmem_cache_alloc [kernel.kallsyms]

     2380.00 2.7% kfree [kernel.kallsyms]
     2016.00 2.3% kmem_cache_free [kernel.kallsyms]

Showing a significant reduction in time spent doing allocation and
freeing from slabs (kmem_cache_alloc and kmem_cache_free).

Christoph Hellwig ddc3415aba xfs: simplify xfs_trans_ijoin* again
There is no reason to keep a reference to the inode even if we unlock
it during transaction commit because we never drop a reference between
the ijoin and commit. Also use this fact to merge xfs_trans_ijoin_ref
back into xfs_trans_ijoin - the third argument decides if an unlock
is needed now.

I'm actually starting to wonder if allowing inodes to be unlocked
at transaction commit really is worth the effort. The only real
benefit is that they can be unlocked earlier when commiting a
synchronous transactions, but that could be solved by doing the
log force manually after the unlock, too.

Dave Chinner 5c8ed2021f xfs: introduce xfs_bmapi_read()
xfs_bmapi() currently handles both extent map reading and
allocation. As a result, the code is littered with "if (wr)"
branches to conditionally do allocation operations if required.
This makes the code much harder to follow and causes significant
indent issues with the code.

Given that read mapping is much simpler than allocation, we can
split out read mapping from xfs_bmapi() and reuse the logic that
we have already factored out do do all the hard work of handling the
extent map manipulations. The results in a much simpler function for
the common extent read operations, and will allow the allocation
code to be simplified in another commit.

Once xfs_bmapi_read() is implemented, convert all the callers of
xfs_bmapi() that are only reading extents to use the new function.

Dave Chinner 7271d243f9 xfs: don't serialise adjacent concurrent direct IO appending writes
For append write workloads, extending the file requires a certain
amount of exclusive locking to be done up front to ensure sanity in
things like ensuring that we've zeroed any allocated regions
between the old EOF and the start of the new IO.

For single threads, this typically isn't a problem, and for large
IOs we don't serialise enough for it to be a problem for two
threads on really fast block devices. However for smaller IO and
larger thread counts we have a problem.

Take 4 concurrent sequential, single block sized and aligned IOs.
After the first IO is submitted but before it completes, we end up
with this state:

        IO 1 IO 2 IO 3 IO 4
      +-------+-------+-------+-------+
      ^ ^
      | |
      | |
      | |
      |       \- ip->i_new_size
      \- ip->i_size

And the IO is done without exclusive locking because offset <=
ip->i_size. When we submit IO 2, we see offset > ip->i_size, and
grab the IO lock exclusive, because there is a chance we need to do
EOF zeroing. However, there is already an IO in progress that avoids
the need for IO zeroing because offset <= ip->i_new_size. hence we
could avoid holding the IO lock exlcusive for this. Hence after
submission of the second IO, we'd end up this state:

        IO 1 IO 2 IO 3 IO 4
      +-------+-------+-------+-------+
      ^ ^
      | |
      | |
      | |
      |               \- ip->i_new_size
      \- ip->i_size

There is no need to grab the i_mutex of the IO lock in exclusive
mode if we don't need to invalidate the page cache. Taking these
locks on every direct IO effective serialises them as taking the IO
lock in exclusive mode has to wait for all shared holders to drop
the lock. That only happens when IO is complete, so effective it
prevents dispatch of concurrent direct IO writes to the same inode.

And so you can see that for the third concurrent IO, we'd avoid
exclusive locking for the same reason we avoided the exclusive lock
for the second IO.

Fixing this is a bit more complex than that, because we need to hold
a write-submission local value of ip->i_new_size to that clearing
the value is only done if no other thread has updated it before our
IO completes.....

Dave Chinner 0c38a2512d xfs: don't serialise direct IO reads on page cache checks
There is no need to grab the i_mutex of the IO lock in exclusive

locks on every direct IO effective serialises them as taking the IO
lock in exclusive mode has to wait for all shared holders to drop
the lock. That only happens when IO is complete, so effective it
prevents dispatch of concurrent direct IO reads to the same inode.

Fix this by taking the IO lock shared to check the page cache state,
and only then drop it and take the IO lock exclusively if there is
work to be done. Hence for the normal direct IO case, no exclusive
locking will occur.

Christoph Hellwig 0030807c66 xfs: revert to using a kthread for AIL pushing
Currently we have a few issues with the way the workqueue code is used to
implement AIL pushing:

 - it accidentally uses the same workqueue as the syncer action, and thus
can be prevented from running if there are enough sync actions active
   in the system.
 - it doesn't use the HIGHPRI flag to queue at the head of the queue of
   work items

At this point I'm not confident enough in getting all the workqueue flags and
tweaks right to provide a perfectly reliable execution context for AIL
pushing, which is the most important piece in XFS to make forward progress
when the log fills.

Revert back to use a kthread per filesystem which fixes all the above issues
at the cost of having a task struct and stack around for each mounted
filesystem. In addition this also gives us much better ways to diagnose
any issues involving hung AIL pushing and removes a small amount of code.

Christoph Hellwig 866e4ed774 xfs: fix xfs_mark_inode_dirty during umount
During umount we do not add a dirty inode to the lru and wait for it to
become clean first, but force writeback of data and metadata with
I_WILL_FREE set. Currently there is no way for XFS to detect that the
inode has been redirtied for metadata operations, as we skip the
mark_inode_dirty call during teardown. Fix this by setting i_update_core
nanually in that case, so that the inode gets flushed during inode reclaim.

Alternatively we could enable calling mark_inode_dirty for inodes in
I_WILL_FREE state, and let the VFS dirty tracking handle this. I decided
against this as we will get better I/O patterns from reclaim compared to
the synchronous writeout in write_inode_now, and always marking the inode
dirty in some way from xfs_mark_inode_dirty is a better safetly net in
either case.

Christoph Hellwig 34951f5cb7 xfs: flag all buffers as metadata
Now that REQ_META bios aren't treated specially in the CFQ I/O schedule
anymore, we can tag all buffers as metadata to make blktrace traces more
meaningful. Note that we use buffers also to zero out partial blocks
in the preallocation / hole punching code, and while they operate on
data blocks the zeros written certainly aren't data. I think this case
is borderline metadata enough to not bother special casing it.

Btrfs needs to be able to control how filemap_write_and_wait_range() is called

the calling of filemap_write_and_wait() down into the ->fsync() handlers. Some
file systems can drop taking the i_mutex altogether it seems, like ext3 and

Convert the inode reclaim shrinker to use the new per-sb shrinker
operations. This allows much bigger reclaim batches to be used, and

being shrunk significantly before the XFS inode cache is shrunk

Dave Chinner af3e40228f xfs: convert AIL cursors to use struct list_head
The list of active AIL cursors uses a roll-your-own linked list with
special casing for the AIL push cursor. Simplify this code by
replacing the list with standard struct list_head lists, and use a
separate list_head to track the active cursors. This allows us to
treat the AIL push cursor as a generic cursor rather than as a
special case, further simplifying the code.

Further, fix the duplicate push cursor initialisation that the
special case handling was hiding, and clean up all the comments
around the active cursor list handling.

Dave Chinner 1d8c95a363 xfs: use a cursor for bulk AIL insertion
Delayed logging can insert tens of thousands of log items into the
AIL at the same LSN. When the committing of log commit records
occur, we can get insertions occurring at an LSN that is not at the
end of the AIL. If there are thousands of items in the AIL on the
tail LSN, each insertion has to walk the AIL to find the correct
place to insert the new item into the AIL. This can consume large
amounts of CPU time and block other operations from occurring while
the traversals are in progress.

To avoid this repeated walk, use a AIL cursor to record
where we should be inserting the new items into the AIL without
having to repeat the walk. The cursor infrastructure already
provides this functionality for push walks, so is a simple extension
of existing code. While this will not avoid the initial walk, it
will avoid repeating it tens of thousands of times during a single
checkpoint commit.

This version includes logic improvements from Christoph Hellwig.

On xfs exports, nfsd is incorrectly returning ENOENT instead of
ESTALE on attempts to use a filehandle of a deleted file (spotted

(It's tempting to wonder whether we should just map all xfs_iget

Mimi Zohar 9d8f13ba3f security: new security_inode_init_security API adds function callback
This patch changes the security_inode_init_security API by adding a
filesystem specific callback to write security extended attributes.
This change is in preparation for supporting the initialization of
multiple LSM xattrs and the EVM xattr. Initially the callback function
walks an array of xattrs, writing each xattr separately, but could be
optimized to write multiple xattrs at once.

For existing security_inode_init_security() calls, which have not yet
been converted to use the new callback function, such as those in
reiserfs and ocfs2, this patch defines security_old_inode_init_security().

This reverts commit 7a249cf83d.

That commit created a situation that could lead to a filesystem
hang. As Dave Chinner pointed out, xfs_trans_alloc() could hold a
reference to m_active_trans (i.e., keep it non-zero) and then wait
for SB_FREEZE_TRANS to complete. Meanwhile a filesystem freeze
request could set SB_FREEZE_TRANS and then wait for m_active_trans
to drop to zero. Nobody benefits from this sequence of events...

Christoph Hellwig 33b8f7c247 xfs: improve sync behaviour in the face of aggressive dirtying
The following script from Wu Fengguang shows very bad behaviour in XFS
when aggressively dirtying data during a sync on XFS, with sync times
up to almost 10 times as long as ext4.

A large part of the issue is that XFS writes data out itself two times
in the ->sync_fs method, overriding the livelock protection in the core
writeback code, and another issue is the lock-less xfs_ioend_wait call,
which doesn't prevent new ioend from being queue up while waiting for
the count to reach zero.

This patch removes the XFS-internal sync calls and relies on the VFS
to do it's work just like all other filesystems do. Note that the
i_iocount wait which is rather suboptimal is simply removed here.
We already do it in ->write_inode, which keeps the current supoptimal
behaviour. We'll eventually need to remove that as well, but that's
material for a separate commit.

Also remove the sync parameter from xfs_itruncate_data, which has been
unessecary since the introduction of the busy extent list in 2002, and
completely dead code since 2003 when the XFS_BMAPI_ASYNC parameter was
made a no-op.

Dave Chinner 1316d4da3f xfs: unpin stale inodes directly in IOP_COMMITTED
When inodes are marked stale in a transaction, they are treated
specially when the inode log item is being inserted into the AIL.
It tries to avoid moving the log item forward in the AIL due to a
race condition with the writing the underlying buffer back to disk.
The was "fixed" in commit de25c18 ("xfs: avoid moving stale inodes
in the AIL").

To avoid moving the item forward, we return a LSN smaller than the
commit_lsn of the completing transaction, thereby trying to trick
the commit code into not moving the inode forward at all. I'm not
sure this ever worked as intended - it assumes the inode is already
in the AIL, but I don't think the returned LSN would have been small
enough to prevent moving the inode. It appears that the reason it
worked is that the lower LSN of the inodes meant they were inserted
into the AIL and flushed before the inode buffer (which was moved to
the commit_lsn of the transaction).

The big problem is that with delayed logging, the returning of the
different LSN means insertion takes the slow, non-bulk path. Worse
yet is that insertion is to a position -before- the commit_lsn so it
is doing a AIL traversal on every insertion, and has to walk over
all the items that have already been inserted into the AIL. It's
expensive.

To compound the matter further, with delayed logging inodes are
likely to go from clean to stale in a single checkpoint, which means
they aren't even in the AIL at all when we come across them at AIL
insertion time. Hence these were all getting inserted into the AIL
when they simply do not need to be as inodes marked XFS_ISTALE are
never written back.

Transactional/recovery integrity is maintained in this case by the
other items in the unlink transaction that were modified (e.g. the
AGI btree blocks) and committed in the same checkpoint.

So to fix this, simply unpin the stale inodes directly in
xfs_inode_item_committed() and return -1 to indicate that the AIL
insertion code does not need to do any further processing of these
inodes.

Dave Chinner 4a33821236 xfs: prevent bogus assert when trying to remove non-existent attribute
If the attribute fork on an inode is in btree format and has
multiple levels (i.e node format rather than leaf format), then a
lookup failure will trigger an assert failure in xfs_da_path_shift
if the flag XFS_DA_OP_OKNOENT is not set. This flag is used to
indicate to the directory btree code that not finding an entry is
not a fatal error. In the case of doing a lookup for a directory
name removal, this is valid as a user cannot insert an arbitrary
name to remove from the directory btree.

However, in the case of the attribute tree, a user has direct
control over the attribute name and can ask for any random name to
be removed without any validation. In this case, fsstress is asking
for a non-existent user.selinux attribute to be removed, and that is
causing xfs_da_path_shift() to fall off the bottom of the tree where
it asserts that a lookup failure is allowed. Because the flag is not
set, we die a horrible death on a debug enable kernel.

Prevent this assert from firing on attribute removes by adding the
op_flag XFS_DA_OP_OKNOENT to atribute removal operations.

Discovered when testing on a SELinux enabled system by fsstress in
test 070 by trying to remove a non-existent user.selinux attribute.

Dave Chinner df4368a146 xfs: clear XFS_IDIRTY_RELEASE on truncate down
When an inode is truncated down, speculative preallocation is
removed from the inode. This should also reset the state bits for
controlling whether preallocation is subsequently removed when the
file is next closed. The flag is not being cleared, so repeated
operations on a file that first involve a truncate (e.g. multiple
repeated dd invocations on a file) give different file layouts for
the second and subsequent invocations.

Fix this by clearing the XFS_IDIRTY_RELEASE state bit when the
XFS_ITRUNCATED bit is detected in xfs_release() and hence ensure

Dave Chinner 778e24bb6d xfs: reset inode per-lifetime state when recycling it
XFS inodes has several per-lifetime state fields that determine the
behaviour of the inode. These state fields are not all reset when an
inode is reused from the reclaimable state.

This can lead to unexpected behaviour of the new inode such as
speculative preallocation not being truncated away in the expected
manner for local files until the inode is subsequently truncated,
freed or cycles out of the cache. It can also lead to an inode being
considered to be a filestream inode or having been truncated when
that is not the case.

Rework the reinitialisation of the inode when it is recycled to
ensure that it is pristine before it is reused. While there, also
fix the resetting of state flags in the recycling error paths so the
inode does not become unreclaimable.

Christoph Hellwig a27a263bae xfs: make log devices with write back caches work
There's no reason not to support cache flushing on external log devices.
The only thing this really requires is flushing the data device first
both in fsync and log commits. A side effect is that we also have to
remove the barrier write test during mount, which has been superflous
since the new FLUSH+FUA code anyway. Also use the chance to flush the
RT subvolume write cache before the fsync commit, which is required
for correct semantics.

Christoph Hellwig aa38572954 fs: pass exact type of data dirties to ->dirty_inode
Tell the filesystem if we just updated timestamp (I_DIRTY_SYNC) or
anything else, so that the filesystem can track internally if it
needs to push out a transaction for fdatasync or not.

This is just the prototype change with no user for it yet. I plan
to push large XFS changes for the next merge window, and getting
this trivial infrastructure in this window would help a lot to avoid
tree interdependencies.

Also remove incorrect comments that ->dirty_inode can't block. That
has been changed a long time ago, and many implementations rely on it.

Christoph Hellwig 233eebb9a9 xfs: correctly decrement the extent buffer index in xfs_bmap_del_extent
The code in xfs_bmap_del_extent does not correctly decrement the
extent buffer index when deleting a whole extent. Most of the time
this gets caught by checks in xfs_bmapi that work around it and
decrement it manually and thus wasn't noticed so far.
