Matthew Auld ade7daa164 drm/i915: BUG_ON when ggtt_view is NULL
Lets BUG_ON and don't bother with a WARN and returning an error, so we can
remove the need to pollute the code with error handling, after all it is
a programmer error to provide NULL view. Also while we're here remove
redundant NULL ggtt_view check.

Dave Gordon b4ac5afc6b drm/i915: replace for_each_engine()
Having provided for_each_engine_id() for cases where the third (id)
argument is useful, we can now replace all the remaining instances with
a simpler version that takes only two parameters. In many cases, this
also allows the elimination of the local variable used in the iterator
(usually 'i').

we wrote the ggtt_bind_vma() observing a number of cleanups we could do
over the template of aliasing_gtt_bind_vma(). Now let's apply the
cleanups we made there back to the original. The essence is to avoid
redundant variables and assignements, and by doing so make the code
easier to read.

Chris Wilson c890e2d531 drm/i915: Codify our assumption that the Global GTT is <= 4GiB
Throughout the code base, we use u32 for offsets into the global GTT. If
we ever see any hardware with a larger GGTT, then we run the real risk
of silent corruption. So test for our assumption up front so that we
have a nice reminder should the time come when it fails.

Ville Syrjälä 11f20322e0 drm/i915: Move the NULL sg handling out from rotate_pages()
rotate_pages() checks to see if it got called with a NULL sg, and then
goes to extract it from sg->sgl. It always gets called with a NULL sg
for the first plane, so moving the initial 'sg=st->sgl' assignment out
into intel_rotate_fb_obj_pages() seems less special-casey.

Ville Syrjälä 1663b9d6a2 drm/i915: Reorganize intel_rotation_info
Throw out a bunch of unnecessary stuff from struct intel_rotation_info,
and pull most of the remaining stuff to live under an array of
per-color plane sub-structures.

What still remains outside the sub-structure will be reorgranized later
as well, but that requires more work elsewhere so leave it be for now.

Chris Wilson 1c7f4bca5a drm/i915: Rename vma->*_list to *_link for consistency
Elsewhere we have adopted the convention of using '_link' to denote
elements in the list (and '_list' for the actual list_head itself), and
that the name should indicate which list the link belongs to (and
preferrably not just where the link is being stored).

s/vma_link/obj_link/ (we iterate over obj->vma_list)
s/mm_list/vm_link/ (we iterate over vm->[in]active_list)

Tim Gore d5165ebd52 drm/i915: implement WaIncreaseDefaultTLBEntries
WaIncreaseDefaultTLBEntries increases the number of TLB
entries available for GPGPU workloads and gives significant
( > 10% ) performance gain for some OCL benchmarks.
Put this in a new function that can be a place for
workarounds that are GT related but not required per ring.
This function is called on driver load and also after a
reset and on resume, so it is safe for workarounds that get
clobbered in these situations. This function currently has
just this one workaround.

v2: This was originally split into 3 patches but following
  review feedback was squashed into 1.
  I have not incorporated some style comments from Chris
  Wilson as I felt that after defining and intialising a
  temporary variable and then adding an additional if block
  to only write the register if the temporary variable had
  been set, this didn't really give a net gain.

Imre Deak a4eba47b25 drm/i915: Move stolen memory initialization earlier during loading
The only device specific dependency of the stolen memory setup is the
MMIO mapping and the stolen memory size. Both are already available in
i915_gtt_init(), so move the stolen initialization to there. The
clean-up code for i915_gtt_init() is in i915_global_gtt_cleanup(), so
move the stolen memory clean-up code there too.

This will be needed by an upcoming patch that needs the details of the
memory we reserve, but the change is also part of our generic goal to
move the initialization of resources with no or little dependencies on
other device specific resources towards the beginning of the init
sequence.

thankfully caught by the extra WARN safegaurd in 0a878716. Since we now
override the GGTT insert_pages callback when installing the aliasing
ppgtt, we assert that the callback is the original ggtt routine.
However, on Braswell we now use a different insertion routine to
serialise access through the GGTT with updating the PTE and hence the
conflict. To avoid the conflict, move the custom insertion routine for
Braswell down a level.

Chris Wilson d0710abbcd drm/i915: Set the map-and-fenceable flag for preallocated objects
As we mark the preallocated objects as bound, we should also flag them
correctly as being map-and-fenceable (if appropriate!) so that later
users do not get confused and try and rebind the pinned vma in order to
get a map-and-fenceable binding.

Wayne Boyer 666a45379e drm/i915: Separate cherryview from valleyview
The cherryview device shares many characteristics with the valleyview
device.  When support was added to the driver for cherryview, the
corresponding device info structure included .is_valleyview = 1.
This is not correct and leads to some confusion.

This patch changes .is_valleyview to .is_cherryview in the cherryview
device info structure and simplifies the IS_CHERRYVIEW macro.
Then where appropriate, instances of IS_VALLEYVIEW are replaced with
IS_VALLEYVIEW || IS_CHERRYVIEW or equivalent.

v2: Use IS_VALLEYVIEW || IS_CHERRYVIEW instead of defining a new macro.
    Also add followup patches to fix issues discovered during the first

Dave Gordon e8ebd8e2bd drm/i915: eliminate 'temp' in gen8_for_each_{pdd, pdpe, pml4e} macros
All of these iterator macros require a 'temp' argument, used merely to
hold internal partial results. We can instead declare the temporary
variable inside the macro, so the caller need not provide it.

Some of the old code contained nested iterators that actually reused the
same 'temp' variable for both inner and outer instances. It's quite
surprising that this didn't introduce bugs! But it does show that the
value of 'temp' isn't required to persist during the iterated body.

Chris Wilson 5bab6f60cb drm/i915: Serialise updates to GGTT with access through GGTT on Braswell
When accessing through the GTT from one CPU whilst concurrently updating
the GGTT PTEs in another thread, the hardware likes to return random
data. As we have strong serialisation prevent us from modifying the PTE
of an active GTT mmapping, we have to conclude that it whilst modifying
other PTE's that error occurs. (I have not looked for any pattern such
as modifying PTE within the same page or cacheline as active PTE -
though checking whether revoking neighbouring objects should be enough
to test that theory.) The corruption also seems restricted to Braswell
and disappears with maxcpus=0. This patch stops all access through the
GTT by other CPUs when we update any PTE by stopping the machine around
the GGTT update.

Note that splitting up the 64 bit write into two 32 bit writes was
tried and found to fail too.

Chris Wilson 7c4a7d60bc drm/i915: Defer adding preallocated stolen objects to the VM list
When preallocating a stolen object during early initialisation, we may
be running before we have setup the the global GTT VM state, in
particular before we have initialised the range manager and associated
lists. As this is the case, we defer binding the stolen object until we
call i915_gem_setup_global_gtt(). Not only should we defer the binding,
but we should also defer the VM list manipulation.

Michał Winiarski a2cad9dff4 drm/i915/gtt: Do not initialize drm_mm twice.
It would be initialized just moments later by i915_init_vm.

Rearrange the code such that i915_init_vm() is next to its callers
inside i915_gem_gtt (and so we can make it static). After removing the
dance around the files, it is clear that we are repeating some work
inside the initializers (such as calling drm_mm_init() multiple times),
so take advantage of the refactor to also remove some redundant code and
clean up the interface.

Michał Winiarski 3a41a05d70 drm/i915/gtt: Avoid calling kcalloc in a loop when allocating temp bitmaps
On each call to gen8_alloc_va_range_3lvl we're allocating temporary
bitmaps needed for error handling. Unfortunately, when we increase
address space size (48b ppgtt) we do additional (512 - 4) calls to
kcalloc, increasing latency between exec and actual start of execution
on the GPU. Let's just do a single kcalloc, we can also drop the size
from free_gen8_temp_bitmaps since it's no longer used.

Zhiyuan Lv 650da34c4a drm/i915: guest i915 notification for Intel GVT-g
When i915 drivers run inside a VM with Intel GVT-g, some explicit
notifications are needed from guest to host device model through PV
INFO page write. The notifications include:

	PPGTT create
	PPGTT destroy

They are used for the shadow implementation of PPGTT. Intel GVT-g
needs to write-protect the guest pages of PPGTT, and clear the write
protection when they end their life cycle.

Zhiyuan Lv 331f38e77d drm/i915: preallocate pdps for 32 bit vgpu
This is based on Mika Kuoppala's patch below:

The patch will preallocate the page directories for 32-bit PPGTT when
i915 runs inside a virtual machine with Intel GVT-g. With this change,
the root pointers in EXECLIST context will always keep the same.

The change is needed for vGPU because Intel GVT-g will do page table
shadowing, and needs to track all the page table changes from guest
i915 driver. However, if guest PPGTT is modified through GPU commands
like LRI, it is not possible to trap the operations in the right time,
so it will be hard to make shadow PPGTT to work correctly.

Shadow PPGTT could be much simpler with this change. Meanwhile
hypervisor could simply prohibit any attempt of PPGTT modification
through GPU command for security.

The function gen8_preallocate_top_level_pdps() in the patch is from
Mika, with only one change to set "used_pdpes" to avoid duplicated
allocation later.

Similar to commit c44ef60e43 ("drm/i915/gtt:
Allow >= 4GB sizes for vm"), i915_gem_obj_offset and i915_gem_obj_ggtt_offset
return an unsigned long, which in only 4-bytes long in 32-bit kernels.

Change return type (and other related offset variables) to u64.

Since Global GTT is always limited to 4GB, this change would not be required
in i915_gem_obj_ggtt_offset, but this is done for consistency.

As a step towards implementing 4 levels, while not discarding the
existing pte insert functions, we need to pass the sg_iter through.
The current function understands to the page directory granularity.
An object's pages may span the page directory, and so using the iter
directly as we write the PTEs allows the iterator to stay coherent
through a VMA insert operation spanning multiple page table levels.

PML4 has no special attributes, and there will always be a PML4.
So simply initialize it at creation, and destroy it at the end.

The code for 4lvl is able to call into the existing 3lvl page table code
to handle all of the lower levels.

Michel Thierry f9b5b782c4 drm/i915/gen8: Generalize PTE writing for GEN8 PPGTT
The insert_entries function was the function used to write PTEs. For the
PPGTT it was "hardcoded" to only understand two level page tables, which
was the case for GEN7. We can reuse this for 4 level page tables, and
remove the concept of insert_entries, which was never viable past 2
level page tables anyway, but it requires a bit of rework to make the
function a bit more generic.

Up until now, ppgtt->pdp has always been the root of our page tables.
Legacy 32b addresses acted like it had 1 PDP with 4 PDPEs.

In preparation for 4 level page tables, we need to stop using ppgtt->pdp
directly unless we know it's what we want. The future structure will use
ppgtt->pml4 for the top level, and the pdp is just one of the entries
being pointed to by a pml4e. The temporal pdp local variable will be
removed once the rest of the 4-level code lands.

Also, start passing the vm pointer to the alloc functions, instead of
ppgtt.

Michel Thierry 6ac1850220 drm/i915/gen8: Make pdp allocation more dynamic
This transitional patch doesn't do much for the existing code. However,
it should make upcoming patches to use the full 48b address space a bit
easier.

32-bit ppgtt uses just 4 PDPs, while 48-bit ppgtt will have up-to 512;
this patch prepares the existing functions to query the right number of pdps
at run-time. This also means that used_pdpes should also be allocated during
ppgtt_init, as the bitmap size will depend on the ppgtt address range
selected.

Chris Wilson d0e30adc42 drm/i915: Mark PIN_USER binding as GLOBAL_BIND without the aliasing ppgtt
If the device does not support the aliasing ppgtt, we must translate
user bind requests (PIN_USER) from LOCAL_BIND to a GLOBAL_BIND. However,
since this is device specific we cannot do this conveniently in the
upper layers and so must manage the vma->bound flags in the backend.

Mika Kuoppala b2dd45111e drm/i915/gtt: Pin vma during virtual address allocation
Dynamic page table allocation might wake the shrinker
when memory is requested for page table structures.
As this happens when we try to allocate the virtual address
during binding, our vma might be among the targets for eviction.
We should do i915_vma_pin() and do pin early in there like Chris
suggests but this is interim solution.

Shield our vma from shrinker by incrementing pin count before
the virtual address is allocated.

The proper place to fix this would be in gem, inside of
i915_vma_pin(). But we don't have that yet so take the short
cut as a intermediate solution.

Tvrtko Ursulin 9e759ff1f4 drm/i915: Return correct size for rotated views
Currently object size is returned for the rotated VMA size which can be
bigger than the rotated view itself. Since the binding code pads all
excess size with scratch pages the only minor issue with this is wasting
some GGTT space, but still feels nicer to fix and report the real size.

John Harrison 4ad2fd888b drm/i915: Split i915_ppgtt_init_hw() in half - generic and per ring
The i915_gem_init_hw() function calls a bunch of smaller initialisation
functions. Multiple of which have generic sections and per ring sections. This
means multiple passes are done over the rings. Each pass writes data to the ring
which floats around in that ring's OLR until some random point in the future
when an add_request() is done by some random other piece of code.

This patch breaks i915_ppgtt_init_hw() in two with the per ring initialisation
now being done in i915_ppgtt_init_ring(). The ring looping is now done at the
top level in i915_gem_init_hw().

The patch 69876bed7e008f5fe01538a2d47c09f2862129d0: "drm/i915/gen8:
page directories rework allocation" added an overflow warning, but the
mask had an extra 0. Use less typo-prone option suggested by Dave
instead, to check for (start + length) >= 0x100000000ULL.

This check will be unnecessary after gen8_alloc_va_range handles more
than 4 PDPs (48b addressing).

Chris Wilson d4dc5e92c0 drm/i915: Remove incorrect restriction on 32bit offsets in ppGTT backend
This is the wrong layer to apply an arbitrary restriction and the wrong
error code (object too large!). If we do want to prevent large offsets
being return to the user on 32bit systems (to hide bugs in userspace),
you want to restrict the drm_mm range manager instead. This first tells
userspace about the correct size of the GTT they can use (so they don't
try and overallocate object or batches), and fixes the eviction logic to
avoid the eventual and *guaranteed* error.

Daniel Vetter 0875546c53 drm/i915: Fix up the vma aliasing ppgtt binding
Currently we have the problem that the decision whether ptes need to
be (re)written is splattered all over the codebase. Move all that into
i915_vma_bind. This needs a few changes:
- Just reuse the PIN_* flags for i915_vma_bind and do the conversion
  to vma->bound in there to avoid duplicating the conversion code all
  over.
- We need to make binding for EXECBUF (i.e. pick aliasing ppgtt if
  around) explicit, add PIN_USER for that.
- Two callers want to update ptes, give them a PIN_UPDATE for that.

Of course we still want to avoid double-binding, but that should be
taken care of:
- A ppgtt vma will only ever see PIN_USER, so no issue with
  double-binding.
- A ggtt vma with aliasing ppgtt needs both types of binding, and we
  track that properly now.
- A ggtt vma without aliasing ppgtt could be bound twice. In the
  lower-level ->bind_vma functions hence unconditionally set
  GLOBAL_BIND when writing the ggtt ptes.

There's still a bit room for cleanup, but that's for follow-up
patches.

With the dynamic pagetable alloc code aliasing ppgtt special-cases
where again mixed in all over the place with the low-level init code.

Extract the va preallocation and clearing again into the common code
where aliasing ppgtt gets set up.

Note that with this we don't set the size of the aliasing ppgtt to the
size of the parent ggtt address space. Which isn't required at all
since except for the ppgtt setup/cleanup code no one ever looks at
this.

This finishes off the dynamic page tables allocations, in the legacy 3
level style that already exists. Most everything has already been setup
to this point, the patch finishes off the enabling by setting the
appropriate function pointers.

In LRC mode, contexts need to know the PDPs when they are populated. With
dynamic page table allocations, these PDPs may not exist yet. Check if
PDPs have been allocated and use the scratch page if they do not exist yet.

Before submission, update the PDPs in the logic ring context as PDPs
have been allocated.

v2: Update aliasing/true ppgtt allocate/teardown/clear functions for
gen 6 & 7.

When we do dynamic page table allocations for gen8, we'll need to have
more control over how and when we map page tables, similar to gen6.
In particular, DMA mappings for page directories/tables occur at allocation
time.

This patch adds the functionality and calls it at init, which should
have no functional change.

The PDPEs are still a special case for now. We'll need a function for
that in the future as well.

One important part of this patch is we now write a scratch page
directory into any unused PDP descriptors. This matters for 2 reasons,
first, we're not allowed to just use 0, or an invalid pointer, and second,
we must wipe out any previous contents from the last context.

The latter point only matters with full PPGTT. The former point only
effect platforms with less than 4GB memory.

Joonas Lahtinen 9abc464854 drm/i915: Compare GGTT view structs instead of types
To allow for views where the view type is not defined by the view type only,
like it is in stereo or rotated 90 degree view, change the semantic to require
the whole view structure for comparison when we match a GGTT view.

This allows including parameters like offset to be included in the view which
is useful for eg. partial views.

Michel Thierry 4933d51955 drm/i915: Finish gen6/7 dynamic page table allocation
This patch continues on the idea from "Track GEN6 page table usage".
From here on, in the steady state, PDEs are all pointing to the scratch
page table (as recommended in the spec). When an object is allocated in
the VA range, the code will determine if we need to allocate a page for
the page table. Similarly when the object is destroyed, we will remove,
and free the page table pointing the PDE back to the scratch page.

Following patches will work to unify the code a bit as we bring in GEN8
support. GEN6 and GEN8 are different enough that I had a hard time to
get to this point with as much common code as I do.

The aliasing PPGTT must pre-allocate all of the page tables. There are a
few reasons for this. Two trivial ones: aliasing ppgtt goes through the
ggtt paths, so it's hard to maintain, we currently do not restore the
default context (assuming the previous force reload is indeed
necessary). Most importantly though, the only way (it seems from
empirical evidence) to invalidate the CS TLBs on non-render ring is to
either use ring sync (which requires actually stopping the rings in
order to synchronize when the sync completes vs. where you are in
execution), or to reload DCLV.  Since without full PPGTT we do not ever
reload the DCLV register, there is no good way to achieve this. The
simplest solution is just to not support dynamic page table
creation/destruction in the aliasing PPGTT.

We could always reload DCLV, but this seems like quite a bit of excess
overhead only to save at most 2MB-4k of memory for the aliasing PPGTT
page tables.

90/270 rotated scanout needs a rotated GTT view of the framebuffer.

This is put in a separate VMA with a dedicated ggtt view and wired such that
it is created when a framebuffer is pinned to a 90/270 rotated plane.

Rotation is only possible with Yb/Yf buffers and error is propagated to
user space in case of a mismatch.

Special rotated page view is constructed at the VMA creation time by
borrowing the DMA addresses from obj->pages.

Ben Widawsky 563222a745 drm/i915: Track page table reload need
This patch was formerly known as, "Force pd restore when PDEs change,
gen6-7." I had to change the name because it is needed for GEN8 too.

The real issue this is trying to solve is when a new object is mapped
into the current address space. The GPU does not snoop the new mapping
so we must do the gen specific action to reload the page tables.

GEN8 and GEN7 do differ in the way they load page tables for the RCS.
GEN8 does so with the context restore, while GEN7 requires the proper
load commands in the command streamer. Non-render is similar for both.

Caveat for GEN7
The docs say you cannot change the PDEs of a currently running context.
We never map new PDEs of a running context, and expect them to be
present - so I think this is okay. (We can unmap, but this should also
be okay since we only unmap unreferenced objects that the GPU shouldn't
be tryingto va->pa xlate.) The MI_SET_CONTEXT command does have a flag
to signal that even if the context is the same, force a reload. It's
unclear exactly what this does, but I have a hunch it's the right thing
to do.

The logic assumes that we always emit a context switch after mapping new
PDEs, and before we submit a batch. This is the case today, and has been
the case since the inception of hardware contexts. A note in the comment
let's the user know.

It's not just for gen8. If the current context has mappings change, we
need a context reload to switch

Ben Widawsky 678d96fbb3 drm/i915: Track GEN6 page table usage
Instead of implementing the full tracking + dynamic allocation, this
patch does a bit less than half of the work, by tracking and warning on
unexpected conditions. The tracking itself follows which PTEs within a
page table are currently being used for objects. The next patch will
modify this to actually allocate the page tables only when necessary.

With the current patch there isn't much in the way of making a gen
agnostic range allocation function. However, in the next patch we'll add
more specificity which makes having separate functions a bit easier to
manage.

One important change introduced here is that DMA mappings are
created/destroyed at the same page directories/tables are
allocated/deallocated.

Notice that aliasing PPGTT is not managed here. The patch which actually
begins dynamic allocation/teardown explains the reasoning for this.

Dan Carpenter dabde5c732 drm/i915: memory leak in __i915_gem_vma_create()
In the original code then if WARN_ON(i915_is_ggtt(vm) != !!ggtt_view)
was true then we leak "vma".  Presumably that doesn't happen often but
static checkers complain and this bug is easy to fix.

Joonas Lahtinen ec7adb6ee7 drm/i915: Do not use ggtt_view with (aliasing) PPGTT
GGTT views are only applicable when dealing with GGTT. Change the code to
reject ggtt_view where it should not be used and require it when it should
be.

- Disregard other but normal views when no view is specified
- More checks that valid parameters are passed
- More readable error checking

Mika Kuoppala 2934368e41 drm/i915: Setup all page directories for gen8
If the requested size is less than what the full range
of pdps can address, we end up setting pdps for only the
requested area.

The logical context however needs all pdp entries to be valid.
Prior to commit 06fda602db ("drm/i915: Create page table allocators")
we have been writing pdp entries with dma address of zero instead
of valid pdps. This is supposedly bad even if those pdps are not
addressed.

As commit 06fda602db ("drm/i915: Create page table allocators")
introduced more dynamic structure for pdps, we ended up oopsing
when we populated the lrc context. Analyzing this oops revealed
the fact that we have not been writing valid pdps with bsw, as
it is doing the ppgtt init with 2GB limit in some cases.

We should do the right thing and setup the non addressable part
pdps/pde/pte to scratch page through the minimal structure by
having just pdp with pde entries pointing to same page with
pte entries pointing to scratch page.

But instead of going through that trouble, setup all the pdps
through individual pd pages and pt entries, even for non
addressable parts. And let the clear range point them to scratch
page. This way we populate the lrc with valid pdps and wait
for dynamic page allocation work to land, and do the heavy lifting
for truncating page table tree according to usage.

The regression of oopsing in init was introduced by
commit 06fda602db ("drm/i915: Create page table allocators")

Thierry Reding 440fd5283a drm/mm: Support 4 GiB and larger ranges
The current implementation is limited by the number of addresses that
fit into an unsigned long. This causes problems on 32-bit Tegra where
unsigned long is 32-bit but drm_mm is used to manage an IOVA space of
4 GiB. Given the 32-bit limitation, the range is limited to 4 GiB - 1
(or 4 GiB - 4 KiB for page granularity).

This commit changes the start and size of the range to be an unsigned
64-bit integer, thus allowing much larger ranges to be supported.
