Dmitry Osipenko 3c5a272202 PM: domains: Improve runtime PM performance state handling
GENPD core doesn't support handling performance state changes while
consumer device is runtime-suspended or when runtime PM is disabled.
GENPD core may override performance state that was configured by device
driver while RPM of the device was disabled or device was RPM-suspended.

Let's close that gap by allowing drivers to control performance state
while RPM of a consumer device is disabled and to set up performance
state of RPM-suspended device that will be applied by GENPD core on
RPM-resume of the device.

The 'gpd_list_lock' is nominally named as such to protect the 'gpd_list'
from concurrent access and mutation. Unfortunately, holding that mutex
around various OPP framework calls leads to lockdep splats because now
we're doing various operations in OPP core such as registering with
debugfs while holding the list lock. We don't need to hold any list
mutex while we're calling into OPP, so let's shrink the locking area of
the 'gpd_list_lock' so that lockdep isn't triggered. This also helps
reduce contention on this lock, which probably doesn't matter much but
at least is nice to have.

Ulf Hansson 63d00be693 PM: runtime: Allow unassigned ->runtime_suspend|resume callbacks
We are currently allowing ->runtime_idle() callbacks to be unassigned
without returning an error code from rpm_idle(). This has been useful to
avoid boilerplate code in drivers. Let's take this approach a step further,
by allowing also unassigned ->runtime_suspend|resume() callbacks.

In this way, a consumer/supplier device link can be used to let a consumer
device be power managed through its supplier device, without requiring
assigned ->runtime_suspend|resume() callbacks for the consumer device, for
example.

Ulf Hansson 5a2bd1b1c6 PM: runtime: Improve path in rpm_idle() when no callback
When pm_runtime_no_callbacks() has been called for a struct device to set
the dev->power.no_callbacks flag for it, it enables rpm_idle() to take a
slightly quicker path by assuming that a ->runtime_idle() callback would
have returned 0 to indicate success.

A device that does not have the dev->power.no_callbacks flag set for it,
may still be missing a corresponding ->runtime_idle() callback, in which
case the slower path in rpm_idle() is taken. Let's improve the behaviour
for this case, by aligning code to the quicker path.

Ulf Hansson 5937c3ce21 PM: domains: Drop/restore performance state votes for devices at runtime PM
A subsystem/driver that need to manage OPPs for its device, should
typically drop its vote for the OPP when the device becomes runtime
suspended. In this way, the corresponding aggregation of the performance
state votes that is managed in genpd for the attached PM domain, may find
that the aggregated vote can be decreased. Hence, it may allow genpd to set
the lower performance state for the PM domain, thus avoiding to waste
energy.

To accomplish this, typically a subsystem/driver would need to call
dev_pm_opp_set_rate|opp() for its device from its ->runtime_suspend()
callback, to drop the vote for the OPP. Accordingly, it needs another call
to dev_pm_opp_set_rate|opp() to restore the vote for the OPP from its
->runtime_resume() callback.

To avoid boilerplate code in subsystems/driver to deal with these things,
let's instead manage this internally in genpd.

Tony Lindgren c745253e2a PM: runtime: Fix unpaired parent child_count for force_resume
As pm_runtime_need_not_resume() relies also on usage_count, it can return
a different value in pm_runtime_force_suspend() compared to when called in
pm_runtime_force_resume(). Different return values can happen if anything
calls PM runtime functions in between, and causes the parent child_count
to increase on every resume.

So far I've seen the issue only for omapdrm that does complicated things
with PM runtime calls during system suspend for legacy reasons:

omap_atomic_commit_tail() for omapdrm.0
 dispc_runtime_get()
  wakes up 58000000.dss as it's the dispc parent
   dispc_runtime_resume()
    rpm_resume() increases parent child_count
 dispc_runtime_put() won't idle, PM runtime suspend blocked
pm_runtime_force_suspend() for 58000000.dss, !pm_runtime_need_not_resume()
 __update_runtime_status()
system suspended
pm_runtime_force_resume() for 58000000.dss, pm_runtime_need_not_resume()
 pm_runtime_enable() only called because of pm_runtime_need_not_resume()

Let's fix the issue by adding a flag for needs_force_resume and use it in
pm_runtime_force_resume() instead of pm_runtime_need_not_resume().

Additionally omapdrm system suspend could be simplified later on to avoid
lots of unnecessary PM runtime calls and the complexity it adds. The
driver can just use internal functions that are shared between the PM
runtime and system suspend related functions.

pm_runtime_put_suppliers() must not decrement rpm_active unless the
consumer is suspended. That is because, otherwise, it could suspend
suppliers for an active consumer.

Because the PM-runtime status of the device is not updated in
__rpm_callback(), attempts to suspend the suppliers of the given
device triggered by the rpm_put_suppliers() call in there may
cause a supplier to be suspended completely before the status of
the consumer is updated to RPM_SUSPENDED, which is confusing.

To avoid that (1) modify __rpm_callback() to only decrease the
PM-runtime usage counter of each supplier and (2) make rpm_suspend()
try to suspend the suppliers after changing the consumer's status to
RPM_SUSPENDED, in analogy with the device's parent.

Ulf Hansson c1df456d0f PM: domains: Don't runtime resume devices at genpd_prepare()
Runtime resuming a device upfront in the genpd_prepare() callback,
to check if there is a wakeup pending for it, seems like an
unnecessary thing to do.

The PM core already manages these kind of things in a common way in
__device_suspend(), via calling pm_runtime_barrier() and
pm_wakeup_pending().

Therefore, let's simply drop this behaviour from genpd_prepare().

Note that, this change is applicable only for devices that are
attached to a genpd that has the GENPD_FLAG_ACTIVE_WAKEUP set
(Renesas, Mediatek, and Rockchip platforms). Moreover, a driver
that needs to restore power for its device to re-configure it
for a system wakeup, may still call pm_runtime_get_sync(), for
example, to do this.

 systems, but this option is not ready to be turned on just yet for the
 default operation based on this testing, so I've reverted that change at
 the very end so we don't have to worry about regressions in 5.12.  We
 will try to turn this on for 5.13 if testing goes better over the next
 few months.
 
 Other than the fixes caused by the fw_devlink testing in here, there's
 not much more:
 	- debugfs fixes for invalid input into debugfs_lookup()
 	- kerneldoc cleanups
 	- warn message if platform drivers return an error on their
 	  remove callback (a futile effort, but good to catch).
 
 All of these have been in linux-next for a while now, and the

Saravana Kannan bab2d712ee PM: domains: Mark fwnodes when their powerdomain is added/removed
This allows fw_devlink to recognize power domain drivers that don't use
the device-driver model to initialize the device. fw_devlink will use
this information to make sure consumers of such power domain aren't
indefinitely blocked from probing, waiting for the power domain device
to appear and bind to a driver.

Nicolas Pitre 0bfa0820c2 PM: clk: make PM clock layer compatible with clocks that must sleep
The clock API splits its interface into sleepable ant atomic contexts:

 - clk_prepare/clk_unprepare for stuff that might sleep

 - clk_enable_clk_disable for anything that may be done in atomic context

The code handling runtime PM for clocks only calls clk_disable() on
suspend requests, and clk_enable on resume requests. This means that
runtime PM with clock providers that only have the prepare/unprepare
methods implemented is basically useless.

Many clock implementations can't accommodate atomic contexts. This is
often the case when communication with the clock happens through another
subsystem like I2C or SCMI.

Let's make the clock PM code useful with such clocks by safely invoking
clk_prepare/clk_unprepare upon resume/suspend requests. Of course, when
such clocks are registered with the PM layer then pm_runtime_irq_safe()
can't be used, and neither pm_runtime_suspend() nor pm_runtime_resume()
may be invoked in atomic context.

For clocks that do implement the enable and disable methods then
everything just works as before.

A note on sparse:
According to https://lwn.net/Articles/109066/ there are things
that sparse can't cope with. In particular, pm_clk_op_lock() and
pm_clk_op_unlock() may or may not lock/unlock psd->lock depending on
some runtime condition. To work around that we tell it the lock is
always untaken for the purpose of static analisys.

Lina Iyer c79aa080fb PM: domains: use device's next wakeup to determine domain idle state
Currently, a PM domain's idle state is determined based on whether the
QoS requirements are met. However, even entering an idle state may waste
power if the minimum residency requirements aren't fulfilled.

CPU PM domains use the next timer wakeup for the CPUs in the domain to
determine the sleep duration of the domain. This is compared with the
idle state residencies to determine the optimal idle state. For other PM
domains, determining the sleep length is not that straight forward. But
if the device's next_event is available, we can use that to determine
the sleep duration of the PM domain.

Let's update the domain governor logic to check for idle state residency
based on the next wakeup of devices as well as QoS constraints. But
since, not all domains may contain devices capable of specifying the
next wakeup, let's enable this additional check only if specified by the
domain's flags when initializing the domain.

Some devices may have a predictable interrupt pattern while executing
usecases. An example would be the VSYNC interrupt associated with
display devices. A 60 Hz display could cause a interrupt every 16 ms. If
the device were in a PM domain, the domain would need to be powered up
for device to resume and handle the interrupt.

Entering a domain idle state saves power, only if the residency of the
idle state is met. Without knowing the idle duration of the domain, the
governor would just choose the deepest idle state that matches the QoS
requirements. The domain might be powered off just as the device is
expecting to wake up. If devices could inform PM frameworks of their
next event, the parent PM domain's idle duration can be determined.

So let's add the dev_pm_genpd_set_next_wakeup() API for the device to
inform PM domains of the impending wakeup. This information will be the
domain governor to determine the best idle state given the wakeup.

Thierry Strudel 718072ceb2 PM: domains: create debugfs nodes when adding power domains
debugfs nodes were created in genpd_debug_init alled in late_initcall
preventing power domains registered though loadable modules to have
a debugfs entry.

Create/remove debugfs nodes when the power domain is added/removed
to/from the internal gpd_list.

Viresh Kumar e77dcb0b73 opp: Don't create an OPP table from dev_pm_opp_get_opp_table()
It has been found that some users (like cpufreq-dt and others on LKML)
have abused the helper dev_pm_opp_get_opp_table() to create the OPP
table instead of just finding it, which is the wrong thing to do. This
routine was meant for OPP core's internal working and exposed the whole
functionality by mistake.

Change the scope of dev_pm_opp_get_opp_table() to only finding the
table. The internal helpers _opp_get_opp_table*() are thus renamed to
_add_opp_table*(), dev_pm_opp_get_opp_table_indexed() is removed (as we
don't need the index field for finding the OPP table) and so the only
user, genpd, is updated.

Note that the prototype of _add_opp_table() was already left in opp.h by
mistake when it was removed earlier and so we weren't required to add it
now.

Ulf Hansson b9795a3e4e PM: domains: Enable dev_pm_genpd_suspend|resume() for suspend-to-idle
The dev_pm_genpd_suspend|resume() have so far only been used during the
syscore suspend/resume phases. However, during suspend-to-idle, where the
syscore phases doesn't exist, similar operations are sometimes needed.

An existing example are the timekeeping_suspend|resume() functions, which
are being called both through a registered syscore ops during the syscore
phases, but also as regular functions calls from cpuidle (via
tick_freeze()) during suspend-to-idle.

For similar reasons, let's enable the dev_pm_genpd_suspend|resume() APIs to
be re-used for corresponding CPU devices that are attached to a genpd,
during suspend-to-idle.

Chen Yu f39ee99f51 PM: sleep: Print driver flags for all devices during suspend/resume
Currently there are 4 driver flags to control system suspend/resume
behavior: DPM_FLAG_NO_DIRECT_COMPLETE, DPM_FLAG_SMART_PREPARE,
DPM_FLAG_SMART_SUSPEND and DPM_FLAG_MAY_SKIP_RESUME.

Print these flags during suspend/resume so as to get a brief
understanding of the expected behavior of each device, and to
facilitate suspend/resume debugging/tuning.

Rafael J. Wysocki d6e3666859 PM: runtime: Drop pm_runtime_clean_up_links()
After commit d12544fb2a ("PM: runtime: Remove link state checks in
rpm_get/put_supplier()") nothing prevents the consumer device's
runtime PM from acquiring additional references to the supplier
device after pm_runtime_clean_up_links() has run (or even while it
is running), so calling this function from __device_release_driver()
may be pointless (or even harmful).

Moreover, it ignores stateless device links, so the runtime PM
handling of managed and stateless device links is inconsistent
because of it, so better get rid of it entirely.
