This routine is meant to be used early during boot, when the
PCI bus numbers have not yet been assigned, and you need to
issue PCI config cycles to an OF device.
It could also be used to "fix" RTAS config cycles if you want

Kbuild puts the objects listed in head-y at the head of vmlinux.
Conventionally, we do this for head*.S, which contains the kernel entry
point.
A counter approach is to control the section order by the linker script.
Actually, the code marked as __HEAD goes into the ".head.text" section,
which is placed before the normal ".text" section.
I do not know if both of them are needed. From the build system
perspective, head-y is not mandatory. If you can achieve the proper code
placement by the linker script only, it would be cleaner.
I collected the current head-y objects into head-object-list.txt. It is
a whitelist. My hope is it will be reduced in the long run.

The objects placed at the head of vmlinux need special treatments:
- arch/$(SRCARCH)/Makefile adds them to head-y in order to place
them before other archives in the linker command line.
- arch/$(SRCARCH)/kernel/Makefile adds them to extra-y instead of
obj-y to avoid them going into built-in.a.
This commit gets rid of the latter.
Create vmlinux.a to collect all the objects that are unconditionally
linked to vmlinux. The objects listed in head-y are moved to the head
of vmlinux.a by using 'ar m'.
With this, arch/$(SRCARCH)/kernel/Makefile can consistently use obj-y
for builtin objects.
There is no *.o that is directly linked to vmlinux. Drop unneeded code
in scripts/clang-tools/gen_compile_commands.py.
$(AR) mPi needs 'T' to workaround the llvm-ar bug. The fix was suggested
by Nathan Chancellor [1].

To inject the error using the tmr inject IP reset vectors need to be placed
in lmb(bram) due to the limitation in HW when this code runs out of DDR.
Below code adds the error inject code to the .init.ivt section to copy
it in machine_early_init to lmb/Bram location. C_BASE_VECTORS which allow
moving reset vectors out of 0 location is not currently supported by
Microblaze architecture, that's why all the time reset vectors with
injection code is all the time copied to address 0.
As of now getting this functionality working CPU switches to real mode
and simply jumps to bram, which causes triggering of fault which continues
to call_xmb_manager_break break handler which will at the end calls the
error count callback function and performs recovery.

When the TMR Manager detects a fault Lockstep state it is signaled to the
MicroBlaze processors by asserting a break signal, When Microblaze gets
a break vector from tmr Microblaze it's needed to clear/block the break
bit in the tmr manager before performing recovery.
In order to perform recovery need to perform the following steps.
1) Store all internal MicroBlaze registers in RAM
2) Execute a suspend instruction which asserts the reset signal
3) Restore all registers from RAM and execute an RTBD instruction to
return from the reset handler, to resume execution at the place
where the break occurred.
This API supports getting called from kernel space only.

provides all the necessary building blocks to implement a redundant
triplicated MicroBlaze subsystem. This processing subsystem is
fault-tolerant and continues to operate nominally after encountering an
error. Together with the capability to detect and recover from errors,
the implementation ensures the reliability of the entire subsystem.
When the break vector gets asserted because of error injection,
the break signal must be blocked before exiting from the break handler,
This commit adds support for xmb_manager_register api which updates the
TMR manager address and control register and error count and reset callback
function arguments, which will be used by the break handler to block the
break and call the error count callback function and reset callback
function.

CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO is now implicitly selected if one picks one of the
explicit options that could be DEBUG_INFO_DWARF_TOOLCHAIN_DEFAULT,
DEBUG_INFO_DWARF4, DEBUG_INFO_DWARF5.
This was actually not what I had in mind when I suggested making it a
'choice' statement, but it's too late to change again now, and the Kconfig
logic is more sensible in the new form.
Change any defconfig file that had CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO enabled but did not
pick DWARF4 or DWARF5 explicitly to now pick the toolchain default.

All architecture-independent users of virt_to_bus() and bus_to_virt()
have been fixed to use the dma mapping interfaces or have been
removed now. This means the definitions on most architectures, and the
CONFIG_VIRT_TO_BUS symbol are now obsolete and can be removed.
The only exceptions to this are a few network and scsi drivers for m68k
Amiga and VME machines and ppc32 Macintosh. These drivers work correctly
with the old interfaces and are probably not worth changing.
On alpha and parisc, virt_to_bus() were still used in asm/floppy.h.
alpha can use isa_virt_to_bus() like x86 does, and parisc can just
open-code the virt_to_phys() here, as this is architecture specific
code.
I tried updating the bus-virt-phys-mapping.rst documentation, which
started as an email from Linus to explain some details of the Linux-2.0
driver interfaces. The bits about virt_to_bus() were declared obsolete
backin 2000, and the rest is not all that relevant any more, so in the
end I just decided to remove the file completely.

I observed that for each of the shared file-backed page faults, we're very
likely to retry one more time for the 1st write fault upon no page. It's
because we'll need to release the mmap lock for dirty rate limit purpose
with balance_dirty_pages_ratelimited() (in fault_dirty_shared_page()).
Then after that throttling we return VM_FAULT_RETRY.
We did that probably because VM_FAULT_RETRY is the only way we can return
to the fault handler at that time telling it we've released the mmap lock.
However that's not ideal because it's very likely the fault does not need
to be retried at all since the pgtable was well installed before the
throttling, so the next continuous fault (including taking mmap read lock,
walk the pgtable, etc.) could be in most cases unnecessary.
It's not only slowing down page faults for shared file-backed, but also add
more mmap lock contention which is in most cases not needed at all.
To observe this, one could try to write to some shmem page and look at
"pgfault" value in /proc/vmstat, then we should expect 2 counts for each
shmem write simply because we retried, and vm event "pgfault" will capture
that.
To make it more efficient, add a new VM_FAULT_COMPLETED return code just to
show that we've completed the whole fault and released the lock. It's also
a hint that we should very possibly not need another fault immediately on
this page because we've just completed it.
This patch provides a ~12% perf boost on my aarch64 test VM with a simple
program sequentially dirtying 400MB shmem file being mmap()ed and these are
the time it needs:
Before: 650.980 ms (+-1.94%)
After: 569.396 ms (+-1.38%)
I believe it could help more than that.
We need some special care on GUP and the s390 pgfault handler (for gmap
code before returning from pgfault), the rest changes in the page fault
handlers should be relatively straightforward.
Another thing to mention is that mm_account_fault() does take this new
fault as a generic fault to be accounted, unlike VM_FAULT_RETRY.
I explicitly didn't touch hmm_vma_fault() and break_ksm() because they do
not handle VM_FAULT_RETRY even with existing code, so I'm literally keeping
them as-is.

ordinary user mode tasks.
In commit 40966e316f ("kthread: Ensure struct kthread is present for
all kthreads") caused init and the user mode helper threads that call
kernel_execve to have struct kthread allocated for them. This struct
kthread going away during execve in turned made a use after free of
struct kthread possible.
The commit 343f4c49f2 ("kthread: Don't allocate kthread_struct for
init and umh") is enough to fix the use after free and is simple enough
to be backportable.
The rest of the changes pass struct kernel_clone_args to clean things
up and cause the code to make sense.
In making init and the user mode helpers tasks purely user mode tasks
I ran into two complications. The function task_tick_numa was
detecting tasks without an mm by testing for the presence of
PF_KTHREAD. The initramfs code in populate_initrd_image was using
flush_delayed_fput to ensuere the closing of all it's file descriptors
was complete, and flush_delayed_fput does not work in a userspace thread.
I have looked and looked and more complications and in my code review
I have not found any, and neither has anyone else with the code sitting
in linux-next.

Merge tag 'kthread-cleanups-for-v5.19' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/ebiederm/user-namespace
Pull kthread updates from Eric Biederman:
"This updates init and user mode helper tasks to be ordinary user mode
tasks.
Commit 40966e316f ("kthread: Ensure struct kthread is present for
all kthreads") caused init and the user mode helper threads that call
kernel_execve to have struct kthread allocated for them. This struct
kthread going away during execve in turned made a use after free of
struct kthread possible.
Here, commit 343f4c49f2 ("kthread: Don't allocate kthread_struct for
init and umh") is enough to fix the use after free and is simple
enough to be backportable.
The rest of the changes pass struct kernel_clone_args to clean things
up and cause the code to make sense.
In making init and the user mode helpers tasks purely user mode tasks
I ran into two complications. The function task_tick_numa was
detecting tasks without an mm by testing for the presence of
PF_KTHREAD. The initramfs code in populate_initrd_image was using
flush_delayed_fput to ensuere the closing of all it's file descriptors
was complete, and flush_delayed_fput does not work in a userspace
thread.
I have looked and looked and more complications and in my code review
I have not found any, and neither has anyone else with the code
sitting in linux-next"

Quite a large number of conversions this time around, courtesy of Uwe
who has been working tirelessly on these. No drivers of the legacy API
are left at this point, so as a next step the old API can be removed.
Support is added for a few new devices such as the Xilinx AXI timer-
based PWMs and the PWM IP found on Sunplus SoCs.
Other than that, there's a number of fixes, cleanups and optimizations.

Add fn and fn_arg members into struct kernel_clone_args and test for
them in copy_thread (instead of testing for PF_KTHREAD | PF_IO_WORKER).
This allows any task that wants to be a user space task that only runs
in kernel mode to use this functionality.
The code on x86 is an exception and still retains a PF_KTHREAD test
because x86 unlikely everything else handles kthreads slightly
differently than user space tasks that start with a function.
The functions that created tasks that start with a function
have been updated to set ".fn" and ".fn_arg" instead of
".stack" and ".stack_size". These functions are fork_idle(),
create_io_thread(), kernel_thread(), and user_mode_thread().

With io_uring we have started supporting tasks that are for most
purposes user space tasks that exclusively run code in kernel mode.
The kernel task that exec's init and tasks that exec user mode
helpers are also user mode tasks that just run kernel code
until they call kernel execve.
Pass kernel_clone_args into copy_thread so these oddball
tasks can be supported more cleanly and easily.

This adds PWM support for Xilinx LogiCORE IP AXI soft timers commonly
found on Xilinx FPGAs. At the moment clock control is very basic: we
just enable the clock during probe and pin the frequency. In the future,
someone could add support for disabling the clock when not in use.
Some common code has been specially demarcated. While currently only
used by the PWM driver, it is anticipated that it may be split off in
the future to be used by the timer driver as well.
This driver was written with reference to Xilinx DS764 for v1.03.a [1].

In DT reserved memory nodes can be added as is described by
Documentation/devicetree/bindings/reserved-memory/reserved-memory.txt
but Microblaze didn't have a support for it. The similar change was done
for ARC by commit 1b10cb21d8 ("ARC: add support for reserved memory
defined by device tree"). It is pretty much enough to call
early_init_fdt_scan_reserved_mem().
Microblaze is not using initial_boot_params that's why there is no need to
call early_init_fdt_reserve_self().

This is based on previous commit ("microblaze: Use simple memset
implementation from lib/string.c") where generic memset implementation is
used when OPT_LIB_FUNCTION is not defined. The same change can be done for
memset/memcpy implementation where doesn't make sense to have generic
implementation in architecture code.

Align implementation with memcpy and memmove where also remaining bytes are
copied via final switch case instead of using simple implementations which
loop. But this alignment has much stronger reason and definitely aligning
implementation is not the key point here. It is just good to have in mind
that the same technique is used already there.
In GCC 10, now -ftree-loop-distribute-patterns optimization is on at O2.
This optimization causes GCC to convert the while loop in memset.c into a
call to memset.
So this optimization is transforming a loop in a memset/memcpy into a call
to the function itself. This makes the memset implementation as recursive.
"-freestanding" option will disable the built-in library function but it
has been added in generic library implementation.
In default microblaze kernel defconfig we have CONFIG_OPT_LIB_FUNCTION
enabled so it will always pick optimized version of memset which is target
specific so we are replacing the while() loop with switch case to avoid
recursive memset call.
Issue with freestanding was already discussed in connection to commit
33d0f96ffd ("lib/string.c: Use freestanding environment") and also this
is topic in glibc and gcc.

On microblaze systems which are not using OPT_LIB_FUNCTION only simple
memset is used. This function is already implemented in lib/string.c that's
why it should be used instead.
This change is done in respect of issue fixed by commit 33d0f96ffd
("lib/string.c: Use freestanding environment") where gcc-10.x moved
-ftree-loop-distribute-patterns optimization is to O2 optimization level.
This optimization causes GCC to convert the while loop in memset.c into a
call to memset. So This optimization is transforming a loop in a
memset/memcpy into a call to the function itself. This makes the memset
implementation as recursive.
Based on fix above -ffreestanding was used and it needs to be used on
Microblaze too but the patch is not adding this flag it removes simple
implementation to cause that generic implementation is used where this flag
is already setup.
