por_fsstress reports inconsistent status in orphan inode, the root cause
of this is in f2fs_write_raw_pages() we decrease i_compr_blocks incorrectly
due to wrong calculation in f2fs_compressed_blocks().
So this patch exposes below two functions based on __f2fs_cluster_blocks:
- f2fs_compressed_blocks: get count of compressed blocks in compressed cluster
- f2fs_cluster_blocks: get count of valid blocks (including reserved blocks)
in compressed cluster.
Then use f2fs_compress_blocks() to get correct compressed blocks count in
f2fs_write_raw_pages().

The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language
extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare
variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2],
introduced in C99:
struct foo {
int stuff;
struct boo array[];
};
By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning
in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which
will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being
inadvertently introduced[3] to the codebase from now on.
Also, notice that, dynamic memory allocations won't be affected by
this change:
"Flexible array members have incomplete type, and so the sizeof operator
may not be applied. As a quirk of the original implementation of
zero-length arrays, sizeof evaluates to zero."[1]
This issue was found with the help of Coccinelle.

for parameter HZ/50 in congestion_wait(BLK_RW_ASYNC, HZ/50);
On some platforms, HZ can be less than 50, then unexpected 0 timeout
jiffies will be set in congestion_wait().
This patch introduces a macro DEFAULT_IO_TIMEOUT to wrap a determinate
value with msecs_to_jiffies(20) to instead HZ/50 to avoid such issue.
Quoted from Geert Uytterhoeven:
"A timeout of HZ means 1 second.
HZ/50 means 20 ms, but has the risk of being zero, if HZ < 50.
If you want to use a timeout of 20 ms, you best use msecs_to_jiffies(20),
as that takes care of the special cases, and never returns 0."

fs: Enable bmap() function to properly return errors
By now, bmap() will either return the physical block number related to
the requested file offset or 0 in case of error or the requested offset
maps into a hole.
This patch makes the needed changes to enable bmap() to proper return
errors, using the return value as an error return, and now, a pointer
must be passed to bmap() to be filled with the mapped physical block.
It will change the behavior of bmap() on return:
- negative value in case of error
- zero on success or map fell into a hole
In case of a hole, the *block will be zero too
Since this is a prep patch, by now, the only error return is -EINVAL if
->bmap doesn't exist.

In this series, we've implemented transparent compression experimentally. It
supports LZO and LZ4, but will add more later as we investigate in the field
more. At this point, the feature doesn't expose compressed space to user
directly in order to guarantee potential data updates later to the space.
Instead, the main goal is to reduce data writes to flash disk as much as
possible, resulting in extending disk life time as well as relaxing IO
congestion. Alternatively, we're also considering to add ioctl() to reclaim
compressed space and show it to user after putting the immutable bit.
Enhancement:

- harden power-cut scenario for zoned block devices
- use private bio_set to avoid IO congestion
- replace GC mutex with rwsem to serialize callers
Bug fix:
- fix dentry consistency and memory corruption in rename()'s error case

Without any form of coordination, any case where multiple allocations
from the same mempool are needed at a time to make forward progress can
deadlock under memory pressure.
This is the case for struct bio_post_read_ctx, as one can be allocated
to decrypt a Merkle tree page during fsverity_verify_bio(), which itself
is running from a post-read callback for a data bio which has its own
struct bio_post_read_ctx.
Fix this by freeing first bio_post_read_ctx before calling
fsverity_verify_bio(). This works because verity (if enabled) is always
the last post-read step.
This deadlock can be reproduced by trying to read from an encrypted
verity file after reducing NUM_PREALLOC_POST_READ_CTXS to 1 and patching
mempool_alloc() to pretend that pool->alloc() always fails.
Note that since NUM_PREALLOC_POST_READ_CTXS is actually 128, to actually
hit this bug in practice would require reading from lots of encrypted
verity files at the same time. But it's theoretically possible, as N
available objects doesn't guarantee forward progress when > N/2 threads
each need 2 objects at a time.

The root cause is f2fs_swap_activate() intends to return zero value
to setup_swap_extents() to enable SWP_FS mode (swap file goes through
fs), in this flow, setup_swap_extents() setups swap extent with wrong
block address range, result in discard_swap() erasing incorrect address.
Because f2fs_swap_activate() has pinned swapfile, its data block
address will not change, it's safe to let swap to handle IO through
raw device, so we can get rid of SWAP_FS mode and initial swap extents
inside f2fs_swap_activate(), by this way, later discard_swap() can trim
in right address range.

This patch tries to support compression in f2fs.
- New term named cluster is defined as basic unit of compression, file can
be divided into multiple clusters logically. One cluster includes 4 << n
(n >= 0) logical pages, compression size is also cluster size, each of
cluster can be compressed or not.
- In cluster metadata layout, one special flag is used to indicate cluster
is compressed one or normal one, for compressed cluster, following metadata
maps cluster to [1, 4 << n - 1] physical blocks, in where f2fs stores
data including compress header and compressed data.
- In order to eliminate write amplification during overwrite, F2FS only
support compression on write-once file, data can be compressed only when
all logical blocks in file are valid and cluster compress ratio is lower
than specified threshold.
- To enable compression on regular inode, there are three ways:
* chattr +c file
* chattr +c dir; touch dir/file
* mount w/ -o compress_extension=ext; touch file.ext

To catch f2fs bugs in write pointer handling code for zoned block
devices, check write pointers of non-open zones that current segments do
not point to. Do this check at mount time, after the fsync data recovery
and current segments' write pointer consistency fix. Or when fsync data
recovery is disabled by mount option, do the check when there is no fsync
data.
Check two items comparing write pointers with valid block maps in SIT.
The first item is check for zones with no valid blocks. When there is no
valid blocks in a zone, the write pointer should be at the start of the
zone. If not, next write operation to the zone will cause unaligned write
error. If write pointer is not at the zone start, reset the write pointer
to place at the zone start.
The second item is check between the write pointer position and the last
valid block in the zone. It is unexpected that the last valid block
position is beyond the write pointer. In such a case, report as a bug.
Fix is not required for such zone, because the zone is not selected for
next write operation until the zone get discarded.

On sudden f2fs shutdown, write pointers of zoned block devices can go
further but f2fs meta data keeps current segments at positions before the
write operations. After remounting the f2fs, this inconsistency causes
write operations not at write pointers and "Unaligned write command"
error is reported.
To avoid the error, compare current segments with write pointers of open
zones the current segments point to, during mount operation. If the write
pointer position is not aligned with the current segment position, assign
a new zone to the current segment. Also check the newly assigned zone has
write pointer at zone start. If not, reset write pointer of the zone.
Perform the consistency check during fsync recovery. Not to lose the
fsync data, do the check after fsync data gets restored and before
checkpoint commit which flushes data at current segment positions. Not to
cause conflict with kworker's dirfy data/node flush, do the fix within
SBI_POR_DOING protection.

When fs-verity verifies data pages, currently it reads each Merkle tree
page synchronously using read_mapping_page().
Therefore, when the Merkle tree pages aren't already cached, fs-verity
causes an extra 4 KiB I/O request for every 512 KiB of data (assuming
that the Merkle tree uses SHA-256 and 4 KiB blocks). This results in
more I/O requests and performance loss than is strictly necessary.
Therefore, implement readahead of the Merkle tree pages.
For simplicity, we take advantage of the fact that the kernel already
does readahead of the file's *data*, just like it does for any other
file. Due to this, we don't really need a separate readahead state
(struct file_ra_state) just for the Merkle tree, but rather we just need
to piggy-back on the existing data readahead requests.
We also only really need to bother with the first level of the Merkle
tree, since the usual fan-out factor is 128, so normally over 99% of
Merkle tree I/O requests are for the first level.
Therefore, make fsverity_verify_bio() enable readahead of the first
Merkle tree level, for up to 1/4 the number of pages in the bio, when it
sees that the REQ_RAHEAD flag is set on the bio. The readahead size is
then passed down to ->read_merkle_tree_page() for the filesystem to
(optionally) implement if it sees that the requested page is uncached.
While we're at it, also make build_merkle_tree_level() set the Merkle
tree readahead size, since it's easy to do there.
However, for now don't set the readahead size in fsverity_verify_page(),
since currently it's only used to verify holes on ext4 and f2fs, and it
would need parameters added to know how much to read ahead.
This patch significantly improves fs-verity sequential read performance.

causes the Crypto API to be built-in whenever fscrypt is enabled.
This makes it very difficult for me to test modular builds of
the Crypto API without disabling fscrypt which is a pain.
As fscrypt is still evolving and it's developing new ties with the
fs layer, it's hard to build it as a module for now.
However, the actual algorithms are not required until a filesystem
is mounted. Therefore we can allow them to be built as modules.

Expose in /sys/fs/f2fs/<blockdev>/main_blkaddr the block address where the
main area starts. This allows user mode programs to determine:
- That pinned files that are made exclusively of fully allocated 2MB
segments will never be unpinned by the file system.
- Where the main area starts. This is required by programs that want to
verify if a file is made exclusively of 2MB f2fs segments, the alignment
boundary for segments starts at this address. Testing for 2MB alignment
relative to the start of the device is incorrect, because for some
filesystems main_blkaddr is not at a 2MB boundary relative to the start
of the device.
The entry will be used when validating reliable pinning file feature proposed
by "f2fs: support aligned pinned file".

Setting softlimit larger than hardlimit seems meaningless
for disk quota but currently it is allowed. In this case,
there may be a bit of comfusion for users when they run
df comamnd to directory which has project quota.
For example, we set 20M softlimit and 10M hardlimit of
block usage limit for project quota of test_dir(project id 123).
[root@hades f2fs]# repquota -P -a

/dev/nvme0n1p8 20M 11M 10M 51% /mnt/f2fs
Even though it looks like there is another 10M free space to use,
if we write new data to diretory test(inherit project id),
the write will fail with errno(-EDQUOT).

Zoned block devices (ZBC and ZAC devices) allow an explicit control
over the condition (state) of zones. The operations allowed are:
* Open a zone: Transition to open condition to indicate that a zone will
actively be written
* Close a zone: Transition to closed condition to release the drive
resources used for writing to a zone
* Finish a zone: Transition an open or closed zone to the full
condition to prevent write operations
To enable this control for in-kernel zoned block device users, define
the new request operations REQ_OP_ZONE_OPEN, REQ_OP_ZONE_CLOSE
and REQ_OP_ZONE_FINISH as well as the generic function
blkdev_zone_mgmt() for submitting these operations on a range of zones.
This results in blkdev_reset_zones() removal and replacement with this
new zone magement function. Users of blkdev_reset_zones() (f2fs and
dm-zoned) are updated accordingly.

f2fs_submit_ipu_bio() in __write_data_page() as below:
__write_data_page()
if (!S_ISDIR(inode->i_mode) && !IS_NOQUOTA(inode)) {
f2fs_submit_ipu_bio(sbi, bio, page);
....
}
in order to avoid below deadlock:
Thread A Thread B
- __write_data_page (inode x, page y)
- f2fs_do_write_data_page
- set_page_writeback ---- set writeback flag in page y
- f2fs_inplace_write_data

- f2fs_wait_on_page_writeback

However, the bio submission breaks the merge of IPU IOs.
So in this patch let's add a global bio cache for merged IPU pages,
then f2fs_wait_on_page_writeback() is able to submit bio if a
writebacked page is cached in global bio cache.

generic/018 reports an inconsistent status of atime, the
testcase is as below:
- open file with O_SYNC
- write file to construct fraged space
- calc md5 of file
- record {a,c,m}time
- defrag file --- do nothing
- umount & mount
- check {a,c,m}time
The root cause is, as f2fs enables lazytime by default, atime
update will dirty vfs inode, rather than dirtying f2fs inode (by set
with FI_DIRTY_INODE), so later f2fs_write_inode() called from VFS will
fail to update inode page due to our skip:
f2fs_write_inode()
if (is_inode_flag_set(inode, FI_DIRTY_INODE))
return 0;
So eventually, after evict(), we lose last atime for ever.
To fix this issue, we need to check whether {a,c,m,cr}time is
consistent in between inode cache and inode page, and only skip
f2fs_update_inode() if f2fs inode is not dirty and time is
consistent as well.

This series from Deepa Dinamani adds a per-superblock minimum/maximum
timestamp limit for a file system, and clamps timestamps as they are
written, to avoid random behavior from integer overflow as well as having
different time stamps on disk vs in memory.
At mount time, a warning is now printed for any file system that can
represent current timestamps but not future timestamps more than 30
years into the future, similar to the arbitrary 30 year limit that was
added to settimeofday().
This was picked as a compromise to warn users to migrate to other file
systems (e.g. ext4 instead of ext3) when they need the file system to
survive beyond 2038 (or similar limits in other file systems), but not

Please consider pulling fs-verity for 5.4.
fs-verity is a filesystem feature that provides Merkle tree based
hashing (similar to dm-verity) for individual readonly files, mainly for
the purpose of efficient authenticity verification.
This pull request includes:
(a) The fs/verity/ support layer and documentation.
(b) fs-verity support for ext4 and f2fs.
Compared to the original fs-verity patchset from last year, the UAPI to
enable fs-verity on a file has been greatly simplified. Lots of other
things were cleaned up too.
fs-verity is planned to be used by two different projects on Android;
most of the userspace code is in place already. Another userspace tool
("fsverity-utils"), and xfstests, are also available. e2fsprogs and
f2fs-tools already have fs-verity support. Other people have shown
interest in using fs-verity too.
I've tested this on ext4 and f2fs with xfstests, both the existing tests
and the new fs-verity tests. This has also been in linux-next since
July 30 with no reported issues except a couple minor ones I found
myself and folded in fixes for.
Ted and I will be co-maintaining fs-verity.

Policy - foreground GC, LFS mode and greedy GC mode.
Under this policy, f2fs_gc() loops forever to GC as it doesn't have
enough free segements to proceed and thus it keeps calling gc_more
for the same victim segment. This can happen if the selected victim
segment could not be GC'd due to failed blkaddr validity check i.e.
is_alive() returns false for the blocks set in current validity map.
Fix this by not resetting the sbi->cur_victim_sec to NULL_SEGNO, when
the segment selected could not be GC'd. This helps to select another
segment for GC and thus helps to proceed forward with GC.
[Note]
This can happen due to is_alive as well as atomic_file which skipps
GC.

The root cause of this issue is, in a very small partition, e.g.
in generic/204 testcase of fstest suit, filesystem's free space
is 50MB, so at most we can write 12800 inline inode with command:
`echo XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX > $SCRATCH_MNT/$i`,
then filesystem will have:
- 12800 dirty inline data page
- 12800 dirty inode page
- and 12800 dirty imeta (dirty inode)
When we flush node-inode's page cache, we can also flush inline
data with each inode page, however it will run out-of-free-space
in device, then once it triggers checkpoint, there is no room for
huge number of imeta, at this time, GC is useless, as there is no
dirty segment at all.
In order to fix this, we try to recognize inode page during
node_inode's page flushing, and update inode page from dirty inode,
so that later another imeta (dirty inode) flush can be avoided.

Support two generic fs ioctls FS_IOC_{GET,SET}FSLABEL, letting

Fixes were made by Eric where:
- f2fs: fix buffer overruns in FS_IOC_{GET, SET}FSLABEL
utf16s_to_utf8s() and utf8s_to_utf16s() take the number of characters,
not the number of bytes.
- f2fs: fix copying too many bytes in FS_IOC_SETFSLABEL
Userspace provides a null-terminated string, so don't assume that the
full FSLABEL_MAX bytes can always be copied.

There is one case can cause data corruption.
- write 4k to fileA
- fsync fileA, 4k data is writebacked to lbaA
- write 4k to fileA
- kworker flushs 4k to lbaB; dnode contain lbaB didn't be persisted yet
- write 4k to fileB
- kworker flush 4k to lbaA due to SSR
- SPOR -> dnode with lbaA will be recovered, however lbaA contains fileB's
data
One solution is tracking all fsynced file's block history, and disallow
SSR overwrite on newly invalidated block on that file.
However, during recovery, no matter the dnode is flushed or fsynced, all
previous dnodes until last fsynced one in node chain can be recovered,
that means we need to record all block change in flushed dnode, which
will cause heavy cost, so let's just use simple fix by forbidding SSR
overwrite directly.

As Pavel Machek reported:
"We normally use -EUCLEAN to signal filesystem corruption. Plus, it is
good idea to report it to the syslog and mark filesystem as "needing
fsck" if filesystem can do that."
Still we need improve the original patch with:
- use unlikely keyword
- add message print
- return EUCLEAN
However, after rethink this patch, I don't think we should add such
condition check here as below reasons:
- We have already checked the field in f2fs_sanity_check_ckpt(),
- If there is fs corrupt or security vulnerability, there is nothing
to guarantee the field is integrated after the check, unless we do
the check before each of its use, however no filesystem does that.
- We only have similar check for bitmap, which was added due to there
is bitmap corruption happened on f2fs' runtime in product.
- There are so many key fields in SB/CP/NAT did have such check
after f2fs_sanity_check_{sb,cp,..}.
