smi_mod_timer() enables the timer before setting timer_running. This
means the timer can be running when we get to stop_timer_and_thread()
without timer_running having been set, resulting in del_timer_sync()
not being called and the timer being left to cause havoc during
shutdown.
Instead just call del_timer_sync() unconditionally

The timeriomem_rng driver only accesses the first 4 bytes of the given
memory area and currently, it also forces that memory resource to be
exactly 4 bytes in size.
This, however, is problematic when used with device-trees that are
generated from things like FPGA toolchains, where the minimum size
of an exposed memory block may be something like 4k.
Hence, let's only check for what's needed for the driver to operate
properly; namely that we have enough memory available to read the
random data from.

syzbot found that a thread can stall for minutes inside read_mem() or
write_mem() after that thread was killed by SIGKILL [1]. Reading from
iomem areas of /dev/mem can be slow, depending on the hardware.
While reading 2GB at one read() is legal, delaying termination of killed
thread for minutes is bad. Thus, allow reading/writing /dev/mem and
/dev/kmem to be preemptible and killable.

Theoretically, reading/writing /dev/mem and /dev/kmem can become
"interruptible". But this patch chose "killable". Future patch will make
them "interruptible" so that we can revert to "killable" if some program
regressed.

passed to kernel called very early to increase initial device

read from /chosen/rng-seed in DT.
Obtain of_fdt_crc32 for CRC check after early_init_dt_scan_nodes(),

Add a new interface add_bootloader_randomness() for rng-seed use case.

ipmi: Make the smi watcher be disabled immediately when not needed
The fix is to put all messages in the queue and move the message
checking code out of ipmi_smi_msg_received and into handle_one_recv_msg,
which processes the message checking after ipmi_thread releases its
locks.
Additionally,Kosuke Tatsukawa <tatsu@ab.jp.nec.com> reported that
handle_new_recv_msgs calls ipmi_free_msg when handle_one_rcv_msg returns

It is possible that SSIF interface entry is present in both DMI and ACPI
tables. In SMP systems, in such cases it is possible that ssif_probe could
be called simultaneously from i2c interface (from ACPI) and from DMI on
different CPUs at kernel boot. Both try to register same SSIF interface
simultaneously and result in race.
In such cases where ACPI and SMBIOS both IPMI entries are available, we
need to prefer ACPI over SMBIOS so that ACPI functions work properly if
they use IPMI.
So, if we get an ACPI interface and have already registered an SMBIOS
at the same address, we need to remove the SMBIOS one and add the ACPI.

[NOTE] : Added custom prints to explain the problem.
In the above log, ssif_probe is executed simultaneously on two different
CPUs.
This patch fixes this issue in following way:
- Adds ACPI entry also to the 'ssif_infos' list.
- Checks the list if SMBIOS is already registered, removes it and adds
ACPI.
- If ACPI is already registered, it ignores SMBIOS.
- Adds mutex lock throughout the probe process to avoid race.

The kthread calling this function is freezable after commit 03a3bb7ae6
("hwrng: core - Freeze khwrng thread during suspend") is applied.
Unfortunately, this function uses wait_event_interruptible() but doesn't
check for the kthread being woken up by the fake freezer signal. When a
user suspends the system, this kthread will wake up and if it fails the
entropy size check it will immediately go back to sleep and not go into
the freezer. Eventually, suspend will fail because the task never froze
and a warning message like this may appear:

properly and suspend work again.

The hwrng_fill() function can run while devices are suspending and
resuming. If the hwrng is behind a bus such as i2c or SPI and that bus
is suspended, the hwrng may hang the bus while attempting to add some
randomness. It's been observed on ChromeOS devices with suspend-to-idle
(s2idle) and an i2c based hwrng that this kthread may run and ask the
hwrng device for randomness before the i2c bus has been resumed.
Let's make this kthread freezable so that we don't try to touch the
hwrng during suspend/resume. This ensures that we can't cause the hwrng
backing driver to get into a bad state because the device is guaranteed
to be resumed before the hwrng kthread is thawed.

ipmi_thread() uses back-to-back schedule() to poll for command
completion which, on some machines, can push up CPU consumption and
heavily tax the scheduler locks leading to noticeable overall
performance degradation.
This was originally added so firmware updates through IPMI would
complete in a timely manner. But we can't kill the scheduler
locks for that one use case.
Instead, only run schedule() continuously in maintenance mode,
where firmware updates should run.

auto startup during initialization. This results in uninitialized memory
issue and causes a kernel panic during boot.
This patch moves the pcr allocation outside the auto startup function
into tpm_chip_register. This ensures that allocated banks are initialized
in any case.

It's a lot of different patches, all across the tree due to some api
changes and lots of debugfs cleanups. Because of this, there is going
to be some merge issues with your tree at the moment, I'll follow up
with the expected resolutions to make it easier for you.
Other than the debugfs cleanups, in this set of changes we have:
- bus iteration function cleanups (will cause build warnings
with s390 and coresight drivers in your tree)
- scripts/get_abi.pl tool to display and parse Documentation/ABI
entries in a simple way
- cleanups to Documenatation/ABI/ entries to make them parse
easier due to typos and other minor things
- default_attrs use for some ktype users
- driver model documentation file conversions to .rst
- compressed firmware file loading
- deferred probe fixes
All of these have been in linux-next for a while, with a bunch of merge

Pull tpm updates from Jarkko Sakkinen:
"This contains two critical bug fixes and support for obtaining TPM
events triggered by ExitBootServices().
For the latter I have to give a quite verbose explanation not least
because I had to revisit all the details myself to remember what was
going on in Matthew's patches.
The preboot software stack maintains an event log that gets entries
every time something gets hashed to any of the PCR registers. What
gets hashed could be a component to be run or perhaps log of some
actions taken just to give couple of coarse examples. In general,
anything relevant for the boot process that the preboot software does
gets hashed and a log entry with a specific event type [1].
The main application for this is remote attestation and the reason why
it is useful is nicely put in the very first section of [1]:
"Attestation is used to provide information about the platform’s
state to a challenger. However, PCR contents are difficult to
interpret; therefore, attestation is typically more useful when
the PCR contents are accompanied by a measurement log. While not
trusted on their own, the measurement log contains a richer set of
information than do the PCR contents. The PCR contents are used to
provide the validation of the measurement log."
Because EFI_TCG2_PROTOCOL.GetEventLog() is not available after calling
ExitBootServices(), Linux EFI stub copies the event log to a custom
configuration table. Unfortunately, ExitBootServices() also generates
events and obviously these events do not get copied to that table.
Luckily firmware does this for us by providing a configuration table
identified by EFI_TCG2_FINAL_EVENTS_TABLE_GUID.
This essentially contains necessary changes to provide the full event
log for the use the user space that is concatenated from these two
partial event logs [2]"
[1] https://trustedcomputinggroup.org/resource/pc-client-specific-platform-firmware-profile-specification/
[2] The final concatenation is done in drivers/char/tpm/eventlog/efi.c

pending instead of evaluating it only after all CPUs have been
offlined.
- Remove the shared annotation for the strict per CPU cfd_data in the
smp function call core code.
- Remove the return values of smp_call_function() and on_each_cpu()
as they are unconditionally 0. Fixup the few callers which actually
bothered to check the return value"
* 'smp-hotplug-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip:

smp: Do not mark call_function_data as shared
cpu/hotplug: Abort disabling secondary CPUs if wakeup is pending
cpu/hotplug: Fix notify_cpu_starting() reference in bringup_wait_for_ap()
After the first call to GetEventLog() on UEFI systems using the TCG2
crypto agile log format, any further log events (other than those
triggered by ExitBootServices()) will be logged in both the main log and
also in the Final Events Log. While the kernel only calls GetEventLog()
immediately before ExitBootServices(), we can't control whether earlier
parts of the boot process have done so. This will result in log entries
that exist in both logs, and so the current approach of simply appending
the Final Event Log to the main log will result in events being
duplicated.
We can avoid this problem by looking at the size of the Final Event Log
just before we call ExitBootServices() and exporting this to the main
kernel. The kernel can then skip over all events that occured before
ExitBootServices() and only append events that were not also logged to
the main log.

Any events that are logged after GetEventsLog() is called are logged to
the EFI Final Events table. These events are defined as being in the
crypto agile log format, so we can just append them directly to the
existing log if it's in the same format. In theory we can also construct
old-style SHA1 log entries for devices that only return logs in that
format, but EDK2 doesn't generate the final event log in that case so
it doesn't seem worth it at the moment.

UEFI systems provide a boot services protocol for obtaining the TPM
event log, but this is unusable after ExitBootServices() is called.
Unfortunately ExitBootServices() itself triggers additional TPM events
that then can't be obtained using this protocol. The platform provides a
mechanism for the OS to obtain these events by recording them to a
separate UEFI configuration table which the OS can then map.
Unfortunately this table isn't self describing in terms of providing its
length, so we need to parse the events inside it to figure out how long
it is. Since the table isn't mapped at this point, we need to extend the
length calculation function to be able to map the event as it goes
along.

A "get random" may fail with a TPM error, but those codes were returned
as-is to the caller, which assumed the result was the number of bytes
that had been written to the target buffer, which could lead to a kernel
heap memory exposure and over-read.
This fixes tpm1_get_random() to mask positive TPM errors into -EIO, as
before.

The driver_find_device() accepts a match function pointer to
filter the devices for lookup, similar to bus/class_find_device().
However, there is a minor difference in the prototype for the
match parameter for driver_find_device() with the now unified
version accepted by {bus/class}_find_device(), where it doesn't
accept a "const" qualifier for the data argument. This prevents
us from reusing the generic match functions for driver_find_device().
For this reason, change the prototype of the driver_find_device() to
make the "match" parameter in line with {bus/class}_find_device()
and adjust its callers to use the const qualifier. Also, we could
now promote the "data" parameter to const as we pass it down
as a const parameter to the match functions.

There is an arbitrary difference between the prototypes of
bus_find_device() and class_find_device() preventing their callers
from passing the same pair of data and match() arguments to both of
them, which is the const qualifier used in the prototype of
class_find_device(). If that qualifier is also used in the
bus_find_device() prototype, it will be possible to pass the same
match() callback function to both bus_find_device() and
class_find_device(), which will allow some optimizations to be made in
order to avoid code duplication going forward. Also with that, constify
the "data" parameter as it is passed as a const to the match function.
For this reason, change the prototype of bus_find_device() to match
the prototype of class_find_device() and adjust its callers to use the
const qualifier in accordance with the new prototype of it.

The i2c_client structure can be fairly large, which leads to
a warning about possible kernel stack overflow in some
configurations:
drivers/char/ipmi/ipmb_dev_int.c:115:16: error: stack frame size of 1032 bytes in function 'ipmb_write' [-Werror,-Wframe-larger-than=]
There is no real reason to even declare an i2c_client, as we can simply
call i2c_smbus_xfer() directly instead of the i2c_smbus_write_block_data()
wrapper.
Convert the ipmb_write() to use an open-coded i2c_smbus_write_block_data()
here, without changing the behavior.
It seems that there is another problem with this implementation;
when user space passes a length of more than I2C_SMBUS_BLOCK_MAX
bytes, all the rest is silently ignored. This should probably be
addressed in a separate patch, but I don't know what the intended
behavior is here.

Merge tag 'pidfd-v5.2-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/brauner/linux
Pull pidfd updates from Christian Brauner:
"This patchset makes it possible to retrieve pidfds at process creation
time by introducing the new flag CLONE_PIDFD to the clone() system
call. Linus originally suggested to implement this as a new flag to
clone() instead of making it a separate system call.
After a thorough review from Oleg CLONE_PIDFD returns pidfds in the
parent_tidptr argument. This means we can give back the associated pid
and the pidfd at the same time. Access to process metadata information
thus becomes rather trivial.
As has been agreed, CLONE_PIDFD creates file descriptors based on
anonymous inodes similar to the new mount api. They are made
unconditional by this patchset as they are now needed by core kernel
code (vfs, pidfd) even more than they already were before (timerfd,
signalfd, io_uring, epoll etc.). The core patchset is rather small.
The bulky looking changelist is caused by David's very simple changes
to Kconfig to make anon inodes unconditional.
A pidfd comes with additional information in fdinfo if the kernel
supports procfs. The fdinfo file contains the pid of the process in
the callers pid namespace in the same format as the procfs status
file, i.e. "Pid:\t%d".
To remove worries about missing metadata access this patchset comes
with a sample/test program that illustrates how a combination of
CLONE_PIDFD and pidfd_send_signal() can be used to gain race-free
access to process metadata through /proc/<pid>.
Further work based on this patchset has been done by Joel. His work
makes pidfds pollable. It finished too late for this merge window. I
would prefer to have it sitting in linux-next for a while and send it
for inclusion during the 5.3 merge window"

Merge tag 'stream_open-5.2' of https://lab.nexedi.com/kirr/linux
Pull stream_open conversion from Kirill Smelkov:
- remove unnecessary double nonseekable_open from drivers/char/dtlk.c
as noticed by Pavel Machek while reviewing nonseekable_open ->
stream_open mass conversion.
- the mass conversion patch promised in commit 10dce8af34 ("fs:
stream_open - opener for stream-like files so that read and write can
run simultaneously without deadlock") and is automatically generated
by running
$ make coccicheck MODE=patch COCCI=scripts/coccinelle/api/stream_open.cocci
I've verified each generated change manually - that it is correct to
convert - and each other nonseekable_open instance left - that it is
either not correct to convert there, or that it is not converted due
to current stream_open.cocci limitations. More details on this in the
patch.
- finally, change VFS to pass ppos=NULL into .read/.write for files
that declare themselves streams. It was suggested by Rasmus Villemoes
and makes sure that if ppos starts to be erroneously used in a stream
file, such bug won't go unnoticed and will produce an oops instead of
creating illusion of position change being taken into account.
Note: this patch does not conflict with "fuse: Add FOPEN_STREAM to
use stream_open()" that will be hopefully coming via FUSE tree,
because fs/fuse/ uses new-style .read_iter/.write_iter, and for these
accessors position is still passed as non-pointer kiocb.ki_pos .

Using scripts/coccinelle/api/stream_open.cocci added in 10dce8af34
("fs: stream_open - opener for stream-like files so that read and write
can run simultaneously without deadlock"), search and convert to
stream_open all in-kernel nonseekable_open users for which read and
write actually do not depend on ppos and where there is no other methods
in file_operations which assume @offset access.
I've verified each generated change manually - that it is correct to convert -
and each other nonseekable_open instance left - that it is either not correct
to convert there, or that it is not converted due to current stream_open.cocci
limitations. The script also does not convert files that should be valid to
convert, but that currently have .llseek = noop_llseek or generic_file_llseek
for unknown reason despite file being opened with nonseekable_open (e.g.
drivers/input/mousedev.c)
Among cases converted 14 were potentially vulnerable to read vs write deadlock
(see details in 10dce8af34):

One can also recheck/review the patch via generating it with explanation comments included via
$ make coccicheck MODE=patch COCCI=scripts/coccinelle/api/stream_open.cocci SPFLAGS="-D explain"
(*) This second group also contains cases with read/write deadlocks that
stream_open.cocci don't yet detect, but which are still valid to convert to
stream_open since ppos is not used. For example drivers/pci/switch/switchtec.c
calls wait_for_completion_interruptible() in its .read, but stream_open.cocci
currently detects only "wait_event*" as blocking.

dtlk_open currently has 2 calls to nonseekable_open which are both
executed on success path. It was not hurting to make the extra call as
nonseekable_open is only changing file->f_flags in idempotent way.
However the first nonseekable_open is indeed both unneeded and looks

The first nonseekable_open was added in 6244f13c51 ("Fix up a couple of
drivers - notable sg - for nonseekability."; 2004-Aug-7). The second
nonseekable_open call was introduced in dc5c724584 ("Remove ESPIPE logic
from drivers, letting the VFS layer handle it instead.; 2004-Aug-8). The
latter patch being mass change probably missed to remove
nonseekable_open that was introduced into dtlk_open the day before.
Fix it: remove the extra/unneeded nonseekable_open call and leave the
call to nonseekable_open only on the path where we are actually opening
the file.

According to ipmi spec, block number is a number that is incremented,
starting with 0, for each new block of message data returned using the
middle transaction.
Here, the 'blocknum' is data[0] which always starts from zero(0) and
'ssif_info->multi_pos' starts from 1.
So, we need to add +1 to blocknum while comparing with multi_pos.

This is required for SSIF to work.
There was no way to know if the interface being added was SI
or SSIF from the platform data, but that was required so the
i2c-addr is only added for SSIF interfaces. So add a field
for that.
Also rework the logic a bit so that ipmi-type is not set

The per-CPU variable batched_entropy_uXX is protected by get_cpu_var().
This is just a preempt_disable() which ensures that the variable is only
from the local CPU. It does not protect against users on the same CPU
from another context. It is possible that a preemptible context reads
slot 0 and then an interrupt occurs and the same value is read again.
The above scenario is confirmed by lockdep if we add a spinlock:

When the system boots with random.trust_cpu=1 it doesn't initialize the
per-NUMA CRNGs because it skips the rest of the CRNG startup code. This
means that the code from 1e7f583af6 ("random: make /dev/urandom scalable
for silly userspace programs") is not used when random.trust_cpu=1.
crash> dmesg | grep random:

initialized again:

Right now rand_initialize() is run as an early_initcall(), but it only
depends on timekeeping_init() (for mixing ktime_get_real() into the
pools). However, the call to boot_init_stack_canary() for stack canary
initialization runs earlier, which triggers a warning at boot:
random: get_random_bytes called from start_kernel+0x357/0x548 with crng_init=0
Instead, this moves rand_initialize() to after timekeeping_init(), and moves
canary initialization here as well.
Note that this warning may still remain for machines that do not have
UEFI RNG support (which initializes the RNG pools during setup_arch()),
or for x86 machines without RDRAND (or booting without "random.trust=on"
or CONFIG_RANDOM_TRUST_CPU=y).

This causes a link failure on ARM in certain configurations,
when we reference each atomic operation from .alt.smp.init in
order to patch out atomics on non-SMP systems:
`.exit.text' referenced in section `.alt.smp.init' of drivers/char/ipmi/ipmi_msghandler.o: defined in discarded section `.exit.text' of drivers/char/ipmi/ipmi_msghandler.o

Immediately after boot, we allow reads from /dev/random before its
entropy pool has been fully initialized. Fix this so that we don't
allow this until the blocking pool has received 128 bits.
We do this by repurposing the initialized flag in the entropy pool
struct, and use the initialized flag in the blocking pool to indicate
whether it is safe to pull from the blocking pool.
To do this, we needed to rework when we decide to push entropy from the
input pool to the blocking pool, since the initialized flag for the
input pool was used for this purpose. To simplify things, we no
longer use the initialized flag for that purpose, nor do we use the
entropy_total field any more.

The intended behavior of function ipmi_hardcode_init_one() is to default
to kcs interface when no type argument is presented when initializing
ipmi with hard coded addresses.
However, the array of char pointers allocated on the stack by function
ipmi_hardcode_init() was not inited to zeroes, so it contained stack
debris.
Consequently, passing the cruft stored in this array to function
ipmi_hardcode_init_one() caused a crash when it was unable to detect
that the char * being passed was nonsense and tried to access the
address specified by the bogus pointer.
The fix is simply to initialize the si_type array to zeroes, so if
there were no type argument given to at the command line, function
ipmi_hardcode_init_one() could properly default to the kcs interface.

because reads should only be issued if there is data to read.
The response_read flag only prevents double writes.
The problem was that the write set the response_read to false,
enqued a tpm job, and returned. Then application called poll

Then the application called read, but got nothing.

The n_r3964 line discipline driver was written in a different time, when
SMP machines were rare, and users were trusted to do the right thing.
Since then, the world has moved on but not this code, it has stayed
rooted in the past with its lovely hand-crafted list structures and
loads of "interesting" race conditions all over the place.
After attempting to clean up most of the issues, I just gave up and am
now marking the driver as BROKEN so that hopefully someone who has this
hardware will show up out of the woodwork (I know you are out there!)
and will help with debugging a raft of changes that I had laying around
for the code, but was too afraid to commit as odds are they would break
things.

- Clean up the transmission flow
Cleaned up the whole transmission flow. Locking of the chip is now
done in the level of tpm_try_get_ops() and tpm_put_ops() instead
taking the chip lock inside tpm_transmit(). The nested calls inside
tpm_transmit(), used with the resource manager, have been refactored
out.
Should make easier to perform more complex transactions with the TPM
without making the subsystem a bigger mess (e.g. encrypted channel
patches by James Bottomley).
- PPI 1.3 support
TPM PPI 1.3 introduces an additional optional command parameter that
may be needed for some commands. Display the parameter if the command
requires such a parameter. Only command 23 (SetPCRBanks) needs one.
The PPI request file will show output like this then:
# echo "23 16" > request
# cat request
23 16
# echo "5" > request
# cat request

- Extend all PCR banks in IMA

As usual, the drivers/tee and drivers/reset subsystems get merged
here, with the expected set of smaller updates and some new hardware
support. The tee subsystem now supports device drivers to be attached
to a tee, the first example here is a random number driver with its
implementation in the secure world.
Three new power domain drivers get added for specific chip families:
- Broadcom BCM283x chips (used in Raspberry Pi)
- Qualcomm Snapdragon phone chips
- Xilinx ZynqMP FPGA SoCs
One new driver is added to talk to the BPMP firmware on NVIDIA
Tegra210
Existing drivers are extended for new SoC variants from NXP,
NVIDIA, Amlogic and Qualcomm.

Patch series "mm: PG_reserved cleanups and documentation", v2.
I was recently going over all users of PG_reserved. Short story: it is
difficult and sometimes not really clear if setting/checking for
PG_reserved is only a relict from the past. Easy to break things. I
guess I now have a pretty good idea wh things are like that nowadays and
how they evolved.
I had way more cleanups in this series inititally, but some
architectures take PG_reserved as a way to apply a different caching
strategy (for MMIO pages). So I decided to only include the most
obvious changes (that are less likely to break something). So the big
chunk of manual SetPageReserved users are MMIO/DMA related things on
device buffers.
Most notably, for device memory we will hopefully soon stop setting
PG_reserved. Then the documentation has to be updated.
This patch (of 9):
The l1 GATT page table is kept in a special on-chip page with 64
entries. We allocate the l2 page table pages via get_zeroed_page() and
enter them into the table. These l2 pages are modified accordingly when
inserting/removing memory via efficeon_insert_memory and
efficeon_remove_memory.
Apart from that, these pages are not exposed or ioremap'ed. We can stop
setting them reserved (propably copied from generic code).

BCM63XX (MIPS) does not use device tree, so there cannot be any
of_device_id, causing the driver to fail on probe:
[ 0.904564] bcm2835-rng: probe of bcm63xx-rng failed with error -22
Fix this by checking for match data only if we are probing from device
tree.

One of the more common cases of allocation size calculations is finding
the size of a structure that has a zero-sized array at the end, along
with memory for some number of elements for that array. For example:
struct foo {
int stuff;
struct boo entry[];
};
size = sizeof(struct foo) + count * sizeof(struct boo);
instance = kzalloc(size, GFP_KERNEL);
Instead of leaving these open-coded and prone to type mistakes, we can
now use the new struct_size() helper:
instance = kzalloc(struct_size(instance, entry, count), GFP_KERNEL);
Notice that, in this case, variable siz is not necessary, hence
it is removed.

The "ival" variable needs to signed so that we don't read before the
start of the str[] array. This would only happen the user passed in a
module parameter that was just comprised of space characters.
