A "wakeup" is a signal from a device telling the system that the device or
the whole system should be awakened and made active. PCI devices are made
active by "resuming" them.
pci_wakeup_bus() is not involved with the wakeup signal; it *resumes*
devices on a bus (possibly in response to a wakeup signal, but that's at a
higher level).
Rename pci_wakeup_bus() to pci_resume_bus() to better reflect what it does.
No functional change intended.

PCI Express Extended Capabilities are in config space between offsets 256
and 4K. These offsets all fit in 16 bits.
Change the return type of pci_find_ext_capability() and supporting
functions from int to u16 to match the specification. Many callers use
"int", which is fine, but there's no need to store more than a u16.

PCI Capabilities are linked in a list that must appear in the first 256
bytes of config space. Each capabilities list pointer is 8 bits.

from int to u8 to match the specification.

PCI devices support two variants of the D3 power state: D3hot (main power
present) D3cold (main power removed). Previously struct pci_dev contained:
unsigned int d3_delay; /* D3->D0 transition time in ms */
unsigned int d3cold_delay; /* D3cold->D0 transition time in ms */
"d3_delay" refers specifically to the D3hot state. Rename it to
"d3hot_delay" to avoid ambiguity and align with the ACPI "_DSM for
Specifying Device Readiness Durations" in the PCI Firmware spec r3.2,
sec 4.6.9.

The method struct pci_error_handlers.error_detected() is defined and
documented as taking an 'enum pci_channel_state' for the second argument,
but most drivers use 'pci_channel_state_t' instead.
This 'pci_channel_state_t' is not a typedef for the enum but a typedef for
a bitwise type in order to have better/stricter typechecking.
Consolidate everything by using 'pci_channel_state_t' in the method's
definition, in the related helpers and in the drivers.
Enforce use of 'pci_channel_state_t' by replacing 'enum pci_channel_state'
with an anonymous 'enum'.
Note: Currently, from a typechecking point of view this patch changes
nothing because only the constants defined by the enum are bitwise, not the
enum itself (sparse doesn't have the notion of 'bitwise enum'). This may
change in some not too far future, hence the patch.

Commit 6ae72bfa65 ("PCI: Unify pcie_find_root_port() and
pci_find_pcie_root_port()") broke acpi_pci_bridge_d3() because calling
pcie_find_root_port() on a Root Port returned NULL when it should return
the Root Port, which in turn broke power management of PCIe hierarchies.
Rework pcie_find_root_port() so it returns its argument when it is already
a Root Port.

Commit c100beb9cc ("PCI/AER: Use only _OSC to determine AER ownership")
removed the use of HEST in determining AER ownership, but the AER driver
still used HEST to verify AER ownership in some of its APIs.
Per the ACPI spec v6.3, sec 18.3.2.4, some HEST table entries contain a
FIRMWARE_FIRST bit, but that bit does not tell us anything about ownership
of the AER capability.
Remove parsing of HEST to look for FIRMWARE_FIRST.
Add pcie_aer_is_native() for the places that need to know whether the OS
owns the AER capability.

Currently pci_iov_add_virtfn() scans the SR-IOV BARs, adds the VF to the
bus and also creates the sysfs links between the newly added VF and its
parent PF.
With pdev->no_vf_scan fencing off the entire pci_iov_add_virtfn() call
s390 as the sole pdev->no_vf_scan user thus ends up missing these sysfs
links which are required for example by QEMU/libvirt.
Instead of duplicating the code refactor pci_iov_add_virtfn() to make
sysfs link creation callable separately.

Previously we used pcie_find_root_port() to find a Root Port from a PCIe
device and pci_find_pcie_root_port() to find a Root Port from a
Conventional PCI device.
Unify the two functions and use pcie_find_root_port() to find a Root Port
from either a Conventional PCI device or a PCIe device. Then there is no
need to distinguish the type of the device.

The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language extension
to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare variable-length
types such as these as a flexible array member [1][2], introduced in C99:
struct foo {
int stuff;
struct boo array[];
};
By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning in
case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which will
help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being
inadvertently introduced[3] to the codebase from now on.
Also, notice that dynamic memory allocations won't be affected by this
change:
Flexible array members have incomplete type, and so the sizeof operator
may not be applied. As a quirk of the original implementation of
zero-length arrays, sizeof evaluates to zero. [1]
sizeof(flexible-array-member) triggers a warning because flexible array
members have incomplete type [1]. There are some instances of code in which
the sizeof() operator is being incorrectly/erroneously applied to
zero-length arrays, and the result is zero. Such instances may be hiding
some bugs. So, this work (flexible-array member conversions) will also help
to get completely rid of those sorts of issues.
This issue was found with the help of Coccinelle.

In certain cases we should be able to enumerate IO and MEM ranges of all
PCI devices installed in the system, and then set respective host bridge
apertures basing on calculated size and alignment. Particularly when
firmware is broken and fails to assign bridge windows properly, like on
Alpha UP1500 platform.
Actually, almost everything is already in place, and required changes are
minimal:
- add "size_windows" flag to struct pci_host_bridge: when set, it
instructs __pci_bus_size_bridges() to continue with the root bus;
- in the __pci_bus_size_bridges() path: add checks for bus->self,
as it can legitimately be null for the root bus.

On some EFI systems, the video BIOS is provided by the EFI firmware. The
boot stub code stores the physical address of the ROM image in pdev->rom.
Currently we attempt to access this pointer using phys_to_virt(), which
doesn't work with CONFIG_HIGHMEM.
On these systems, attempting to load the radeon module on a x86_32 kernel
can result in the following:

Fix the issue by updating all drivers which can access a platform provided
ROM. Instead of calling the helper function pci_platform_rom() which uses
phys_to_virt(), call ioremap() directly on the pdev->rom.
radeon_read_platform_bios() previously directly accessed an __iomem
pointer. Avoid this by calling memcpy_fromio() instead of kmemdup().
pci_platform_rom() now has no remaining callers, so remove it.

Error Disconnect Recover (EDR) is a feature that allows ACPI firmware to
notify OSPM that a device has been disconnected due to an error condition
(ACPI v6.3, sec 5.6.6). OSPM advertises its support for EDR on PCI devices
via _OSC (see [1], sec 4.5.1, table 4-4). The OSPM EDR notify handler
should invalidate software state associated with disconnected devices and
may attempt to recover them. OSPM communicates the status of recovery to
the firmware via _OST (sec 6.3.5.2).
For PCIe, firmware may use Downstream Port Containment (DPC) to support
EDR. Per [1], sec 4.5.1, table 4-6, even if firmware has retained control
of DPC, OSPM may read/write DPC control and status registers during the EDR
notification processing window, i.e., from the time it receives an EDR
notification until it clears the DPC Trigger Status.
Note that per [1], sec 4.5.1 and 4.5.2.4,
1. If the OS supports EDR, it should advertise that to firmware by
setting OSC_PCI_EDR_SUPPORT in _OSC Support.
2. If the OS sets OSC_PCI_EXPRESS_DPC_CONTROL in _OSC Control to request
control of the DPC capability, it must also set OSC_PCI_EDR_SUPPORT in
_OSC Support.
Add an EDR notify handler to attempt recovery.

There have been some significant changes in the core side, both for
ALSA and ASoC, while lots of development have been seen in SOF, as
well as many small fixes/improvements for ASoC codecs and platforms.
Below is a highlight in this cycle:
Core:
- The unification of PCM vmalloc buffer allocation helpers into the
standard API
- Clean up of the default PCM mmap handling for vmalloc & SG-buffer
- Fix potential races at ALSA timer open
- A few new PCM API extensions; just preliminary core changes, the
actual changes in drivers will be merged in 5.6
- Continued ASoC componentization works; now almost everything is a
common ASoC component object. A lot of refactoring and
simplification have been done along with it.
ASoC:
- Many fixes to the Sound Open Firmware (SOF) code
- Wake on voice support for Chromebooks
- SPI support and trigger word detection for RT5677
- New drivers for Analog Devices ADAU7118, Intel Cannonlake systems
with RT1011 and RT5682, Texas Instruments TAS2562 and TAS2770
HD-audio:
- Improved Intel DSP configuration / probe code for SOF
- Plumbing the legacy HD-audio driver with Intel SOF HDMI
- DP-MST support for Nvidia HDMI codecs
- Realtek quirks cleanups and new additions as usual
Others:
- Lots of refactoring and cleanups for FireWire; period-size sharing,
h/w IRQ interval configuration, clock recovery improvements, etc
- USB-audio: Scarlett mixer quirks
- Cleanups of PCM calls in various drivers (including media and USB)
to adapt the core API changes

Notice that radeon_set_suspend(), which is the only caller of
__pci_complete_power_transition() outside of pci.c, really only
cares about the pci_platform_power_transition() invoked by it,
so export the latter instead of it, update the radeon driver to
call pci_platform_power_transition() directly and make
__pci_complete_power_transition() static.

Move ATS function prototypes from include/linux/pci.h to

It's better to make the compiler see what is going on and remove
such ifdef checks completely. In case of PCI, this is trivial since
pci_register_driver() is defined to an empty function that makes the
compiler subsequently drop all unused code silently.
The global pcireg_rc/ofreg_rc variables are not actually needed here
since the driver registration does not fail in ways that would make
it helpful.
For CONFIG_OF, an IS_ENABLED() check is still required, since platform
drivers can exist both with and without it.
A little change to linux/pci.h is needed to ensure that
pcim_enable_device() is visible to the driver. Moving the declaration
outside of ifdef would be sufficient here, but for consistency with the
rest of the file, adding an inline helper is probably best.

In some systems, the Device/Port Type in the PCI Express Capabilities
register incorrectly identifies upstream ports as downstream ports.
d0751b98df ("PCI: Add dev->has_secondary_link to track downstream PCIe
links") addressed this by adding pci_dev.has_secondary_link, which is set
for downstream ports. But this is confusing because pci_pcie_type()
sometimes gives the wrong answer, and it's not obvious that we should use
pci_dev.has_secondary_link instead.
Reduce the confusion by correcting the type of the port itself so that
pci_pcie_type() returns the actual type regardless of what the Device/Port
Type register claims it is. Update the users to call pci_pcie_type() and
pcie_downstream_port() accordingly, and remove pci_dev.has_secondary_link
completely.

- adjust title markups.
At its new index.rst, let's add a :orphan: while this is not linked to

PCIe r5.0, sec 7.5.3.18, defines a new 32.0 GT/s bit in the Supported Link
Speeds Vector of Link Capabilities 2. Decode this new speed. This does
not affect the speed of the link, which should be negotiated automatically
by the hardware; it only adds decoding when showing the speed to the user.
Previously, reading the speed of a link operating at this speed showed
"Unknown speed" instead of "32.0 GT/s".

For NTB devices, we want to be able to trigger MSI interrupts
through a memory window. In these cases we may want to use
more interrupts than the NTB PCI device has available in its MSI-X
table.
We allow for this by creating a new 'virtual' interrupt. These
interrupts are allocated as usual but are not programmed into the
MSI-X table (as there may not be space for them).
The MSI address and data will then handled through an NTB MSI library
introduced later in this series.

If a PCI driver leaves the device handled by it in D0 and calls
pci_save_state() on the device in its ->suspend() or ->suspend_late()
callback, it can expect the device to stay in D0 over the whole
s2idle cycle. However, that may not be the case if there is a
spurious wakeup while the system is suspended, because in that case
pci_pm_suspend_noirq() will run again after pci_pm_resume_noirq()
which calls pci_restore_state(), via pci_pm_default_resume_early(),
so state_saved is cleared and the second iteration of
pci_pm_suspend_noirq() will invoke pci_prepare_to_sleep() which
may change the power state of the device.
To avoid that, add a new internal flag, skip_bus_pm, that will be set
by pci_pm_suspend_noirq() when it runs for the first time during the
given system suspend-resume cycle if the state of the device has
been saved already and the device is still in D0. Setting that flag
will cause the next iterations of pci_pm_suspend_noirq() to set
state_saved for pci_pm_resume_noirq(), so that it always restores the
device state from the originally saved data, and avoid calling
pci_prepare_to_sleep() for the device.

Due to an erratum in some Pericom PCIe-to-PCI bridges in reverse mode
(conventional PCI on primary side, PCIe on downstream side), the Retrain
Link bit needs to be cleared manually to allow the link training to
complete successfully.
If it is not cleared manually, the link training is continuously restarted
and no devices below the PCI-to-PCIe bridge can be accessed. That means
drivers for devices below the bridge will be loaded but won't work and may
even crash because the driver is only reading 0xffff.
See the Pericom Errata Sheet PI7C9X111SLB_errata_rev1.2_102711.pdf for
details. Devices known as affected so far are: PI7C9X110, PI7C9X111SL,
PI7C9X130.
Add a new flag, clear_retrain_link, in struct pci_dev. Quirks for affected
devices set this bit.
Note that pcie_retrain_link() lives in aspm.c because that's currently the
only place we use it, but this erratum is not specific to ASPM, and we may
retrain links for other reasons in the future.

always aligned to a 4096 byte boundary.
An IOMMU that can only translate page-aligned addresses can only be used
with devices that always produce aligned Untranslated Addresses. This
interface will be used by drivers for such IOMMUs to determine whether
devices can use the ATS service.

The interrupt affinity spreading mechanism supports to spread out
affinities for one or more interrupt sets. A interrupt set contains one or
more interrupts. Each set is mapped to a specific functionality of a
device, e.g. general I/O queues and read I/O queus of multiqueue block
devices.
The number of interrupts per set is defined by the driver. It depends on
the total number of available interrupts for the device, which is
determined by the PCI capabilites and the availability of underlying CPU
resources, and the number of queues which the device provides and the
driver wants to instantiate.
The driver passes initial configuration for the interrupt allocation via a
pointer to struct irq_affinity.
Right now the allocation mechanism is complex as it requires to have a loop
in the driver to determine the maximum number of interrupts which are
provided by the PCI capabilities and the underlying CPU resources. This
loop would have to be replicated in every driver which wants to utilize
this mechanism. That's unwanted code duplication and error prone.
In order to move this into generic facilities it is required to have a
mechanism, which allows the recalculation of the interrupt sets and their
size, in the core code. As the core code does not have any knowledge about the
underlying device, a driver specific callback is required in struct
irq_affinity, which can be invoked by the core code. The callback gets the
number of available interupts as an argument, so the driver can calculate the
corresponding number and size of interrupt sets.
At the moment the struct irq_affinity pointer which is handed in from the
driver and passed through to several core functions is marked 'const', but for
the callback to be able to modify the data in the struct it's required to
remove the 'const' qualifier.
Add the optional callback to struct irq_affinity, which allows drivers to
recalculate the number and size of interrupt sets and remove the 'const'
qualifier.
For simple invocations, which do not supply a callback, a default callback
is installed, which just sets nr_sets to 1 and transfers the number of
spreadable vectors to the set_size array at index 0.
This is for now guarded by a check for nr_sets != 0 to keep the NVME driver
working until it is converted to the callback mechanism.
To make sure that the driver configuration is correct under all circumstances
the callback is invoked even when there are no interrupts for queues left,
i.e. the pre/post requirements already exhaust the numner of available
interrupts.
At the PCI layer irq_create_affinity_masks() has to be invoked even for the
case where the legacy interrupt is used. That ensures that the callback is
invoked and the device driver can adjust to that situation.
[ tglx: Fixed the simple case (no sets required). Moved the sanity check
for nr_sets after the invocation of the callback so it catches
broken drivers. Fixed the kernel doc comments for struct
irq_affinity and de-'This patch'-ed the changelog ]

pci_bridge_check_ranges() determines whether a bridge supports the optional
I/O and prefetchable memory windows and sets the flag bits in the bridge
resources. This *could* be done once during enumeration except that the
resource allocation code completely clears the flag bits, e.g., in the
pci_assign_unassigned_bridge_resources() path.
The problem with pci_bridge_check_ranges() in the resource allocation path
is that we may allocate resources after devices have been claimed by
drivers, and pci_bridge_check_ranges() *changes* the window registers to
determine whether they're writable. This may break concurrent accesses to
devices behind the bridge.
Add a new pci_read_bridge_windows() to determine whether a bridge supports
the optional windows, call it once during enumeration, remember the
results, and change pci_bridge_check_ranges() so it doesn't touch the
bridge windows but sets the flag bits based on those remembered results.

Here is the big set of char and misc driver patches for 4.21-rc1.
Lots of different types of driver things in here, as this tree seems to
be the "collection of various driver subsystems not big enough to have
their own git tree" lately.
Anyway, some highlights of the changes in here:
- binderfs: is it a rule that all driver subsystems will eventually
grow to have their own filesystem? Binder now has one to handle the
use of it in containerized systems. This was discussed at the
Plumbers conference a few months ago and knocked into mergable shape
very fast by Christian Brauner. Who also has signed up to be
another binder maintainer, showing a distinct lack of good judgement :)
- binder updates and fixes
- mei driver updates
- fpga driver updates and additions
- thunderbolt driver updates
- soundwire driver updates
- extcon driver updates
- nvmem driver updates
- hyper-v driver updates
- coresight driver updates
- pvpanic driver additions and reworking for more device support
- lp driver updates. Yes really, it's _finally_ moved to the proper
parallal port driver model, something I never thought I would see
happen. Good stuff.
- other tiny driver updates and fixes.
All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported
issues.

A malicious PCI device may use DMA to attack the system. An external
Thunderbolt port is a convenient point to attach such a device. The OS
may use IOMMU to defend against DMA attacks.
Some BIOSes mark these externally facing root ports with this
ACPI _DSD [1]:
Name (_DSD, Package () {
ToUUID ("efcc06cc-73ac-4bc3-bff0-76143807c389"),
Package () {
Package () {"ExternalFacingPort", 1},
Package () {"UID", 0 }
}
})
If we find such a root port, mark it and all its children as untrusted.
The rest of the OS may use this information to enable DMA protection
against malicious devices. For instance the device may be put behind an
IOMMU to keep it from accessing memory outside of what the driver has
allocated for it.
While at it, add a comment on top of prp_guids array explaining the
possible caveat resulting when these GUIDs are treated equivalent.

Some PCI devices may have memory mapped in a BAR space that's intended for
use in peer-to-peer transactions. To enable such transactions the memory
must be registered with ZONE_DEVICE pages so it can be used by DMA
interfaces in existing drivers.
Add an interface for other subsystems to find and allocate chunks of P2P
memory as necessary to facilitate transfers between two PCI peers:
struct pci_dev *pci_p2pmem_find[_many]();
int pci_p2pdma_distance[_many]();
void *pci_alloc_p2pmem();
The new interface requires a driver to collect a list of client devices
involved in the transaction then call pci_p2pmem_find() to obtain any
suitable P2P memory. Alternatively, if the caller knows a device which
provides P2P memory, they can use pci_p2pdma_distance() to determine if it
is usable. With a suitable p2pmem device, memory can then be allocated
with pci_alloc_p2pmem() for use in DMA transactions.
Depending on hardware, using peer-to-peer memory may reduce the bandwidth
of the transfer but can significantly reduce pressure on system memory.
This may be desirable in many cases: for example a system could be designed
with a small CPU connected to a PCIe switch by a small number of lanes
which would maximize the number of lanes available to connect to NVMe
devices.
The code is designed to only utilize the p2pmem device if all the devices
involved in a transfer are behind the same PCI bridge. This is because we
have no way of knowing whether peer-to-peer routing between PCIe Root Ports
is supported (PCIe r4.0, sec 1.3.1). Additionally, the benefits of P2P
transfers that go through the RC is limited to only reducing DRAM usage
and, in some cases, coding convenience. The PCI-SIG may be exploring
adding a new capability bit to advertise whether this is possible for
future hardware.

Hellwig.

The spec has timing requirements when waiting for a link to become active
after a conventional reset. Implement those hard delays when waiting for
an active link so pciehp and dpc drivers don't need to duplicate this.
For devices that don't support data link layer active reporting, wait the
fixed time recommended by the PCIe spec.

PCIe r4.0, sec 7.5.1.1.4 defines a new bit in the Status Register:
Immediate Readiness – This optional bit, when Set, indicates the Function
is guaranteed to be ready to successfully complete valid configuration
accesses at any time following any reset that the host is capable of
issuing Configuration Requests to this Function.
When this bit is Set, for accesses to this Function, software is exempt
from all requirements to delay configuration accesses following any type
of reset, including but not limited to the timing requirements defined in
Section 6.6.
This means that all delays after a Conventional or Function Reset can be
skipped.
This patch reads such bit and caches its value in a flag inside struct
pci_dev to be checked later if we should delay or can skip delays after a
reset. While at that, also move the explicit msleep(100) call from
pcie_flr() and pci_af_flr() to pci_dev_wait().

There are a lot of examples in the kernel where PCI_VDEVICE() is used and
still looks not so convenient due to additional driver_data field attached.
Introduce PCI_DEVICE_DATA() macro to fully describe device ID entry in
shortest possible form. For example,
before:
{ PCI_VDEVICE(INTEL, PCI_DEVICE_ID_INTEL_MRFLD),
(kernel_ulong_t) &dwc3_pci_mrfld_properties, },
after:
{ PCI_DEVICE_DATA(INTEL, MRFLD, &dwc3_pci_mrfld_properties) },
Drivers can be converted later on in independent way.
While here, remove the unused macro with the same name from Ralink wireless
driver.
